my only critique is that you swap the trinkets to the left side and armor to the right side. it’s minor, but having the armor slots closer to the wardrobe and dye colors so your mouse has to travel minimal distance when trying out new looks.
Yeah now that you mention it I think it would make more sense to have that entire block of info/tabs on the left rather than the right. That way the name is prominent in the upper left (first place your eye naturally goes) as well as being less distance to equip & dye armor.
I just started another Mesmer as well and thought I was just hallucinating that my clones were somehow automatically Mind Wracking once I got three clones out.
Kind of a weird mechanic to throw in since it basically teaches you a mechanic that doesn’t even exist after you get the actual shatter ability. I guess it makes a little sense since without shatters Mesmers do hardly any damage at low levels.
Sorry, didn’t see this thread so I’m re-posting this here:
Before too much criticism/analysis is made about the new leveling system it’s really worth it to actually try it out first.
I created a new baby Mesmer after the patch and leveled it to level 16 at a lazy pace in a few hours. Overall so far it’s seemed a lot smoother and even kind of addictive to level now (without boosts of any kind). At each level getting a little fanfare, some shinies & new unlocks or words of advice does make the process seem more rewarding.
My first ever character in GW2 was a Mesmer so I remember how it was to enter knowing absolutely nothing about the game, let alone the profession. For instance I remember not fully understanding or even using my shatter skills until maybe around level 40-50. I’ll admit it’s a little weird unlocking one at a time but that does allow you to get familiar with each one in turn before moving on to the next.
I do miss the unlocking of weapon skills by using them, but I also remember how much of a pain it was to unlock all the weapon skills of an Elementalist for instance. You end up hanging out in the same attunement for what seems like an eternity just to unlock all the skills, so being able to switch attunements doesn’t even really matter at that stage. And then you have to unlock all the underwater skills….
So far overall I’ve seen an improvement (this is my 10th character) with my leveling experience. I absolutely don’t support the dumbing down of the little touches (feeding cows, watering plants etc.) as they were some of the reasons that really drew me to GW2 in the first place.
So before being too critical of the system check it out first…then be critical.
This is really well done! I do graphic design / UI design and this is, well…great. All the good stuff is in there and it’s easily understandable and well organized. Also aesthetically appealing. A+
Great job!

WoodenPotatoes mentions this bug (fix?) as “…that stupid Frost Spirit change…” in his latest video:
Note that he’s currently playing the new patch so I have to assume if this was fixed in that patch he would have mentioned it.

By the title I thought you were inviting us all out for drinks.
Strangely enough my first character was also a Mesmer and literally on my first day playing I got PM-yelled at by a couple people telling me “You don’t know what the kitten you’re doing!”. And this was in PvE…just wandering around with my awkward scepter trying to kill fireflies.
Of course they were right, but it gave me a very bad impression of the game out of the gate. This proved to be the exception rather than the rule though. The more I’ve played the more I saw it was just the usual minority of rude people that are in any community. Don’t sweat it…just block/report when needed.
And don’t feel bad, Mesmer is probably one of the hardest professions to be quickly ‘good’ at, especially while leveling. I encourage you to check out the Mesmer forums, there are a lot of extremely skilled and considerate Mesmers on there willing to help out and give pointers to improve your mesmerizing.
Edit: And btw I don’t think there are any playstyles that are toxic. There are playstyles/builds that might be less effective in a certain game mode, but that’s always open to debate. When some people get frustrated fighting a PU Mesmer or getting stun-locked by a Warrior or a constantly stealthing thief or whatever I say let them be frustrated. Psychology is half of every battle.

All the changes look great, nice job ArenaNet! (and here’s the but)… but Projected Profit needs to be somewhere on the UI, and here’s why.
The pictured example is not a good example to use since the TP price is so much higher than the vender list price, so even without the Projected Profit shown no calculator is needed to know that you’ll get more from the TP.
On the other hand what if you wanted to sell a Beryl Orb and wanted to quickly determine if it would be wiser to vender or TP. This is what you would see:
Vender Price: 1s 98c
TP Sell Price: 2s 12c
Listing Fee: 10c
Exchange Fee: 11c
So without using a calculator which is the better deal? And how long did it take you to arrive at that conclusion? I think especially for new players this will cause a lot more confusion & wasted time than just having the Projected Profit listed somewhere in the UI.
Edit: And make sure Kate Welch is given a special thanks since I assume she worked on the UI design but for reasons won’t get a chance to talk about it in the next POI. Awesome job Kate & UI team!

Thanks for shedding light on this. This needs to be fixed, and fast. At the very least it must be immediately acknowledged by the devs as something that will be corrected in the upcoming patch.
Thanks for bumping this Poplolita. It really makes clear why so many are disappointed with the upcoming necro changes. Not one single major weakness of necros was addressed in any meaningful way (except a cleaving weapon I suppose). Just seems like an obviously missed opportunity.
Well that 6 second Signet of Vampirism should finally get us to the front of the line in dungeon runs. LFG SoV Necros ONLY.
Collapses from sarcasm overload…
(edited by Wasbunny.6531)
I really at least expected siphoning to get some love in order to improve our ‘attrition’ type sustain. Seriously, all they felt that was needed was to increase Signet of Vampirism by 1 second? That’s our new and improved level of sustain?
Maybe by attrition they mean how long we will hold out being Necros at all.
Necro changes in four words…
Totally agreed. I was always baffled by the fact that in order to learn downed skills I need to hop back and forth between a wiki page and the game. Even having played since launch and with 8 80’s I still don’t know what at least half of my downed skills do.
The functionality of special hidden skills that come with elites like Lich Form also take an unnecessarily long time to memorize since there is no way to study up before hand (again except tabbing over to a wiki page).
Since ArenaNet seems to be focusing on adjusting how they teach new players the ropes I hope they don’t forget this area again.
I just wanted to tip my hat to Zelyhn for creating such a clear and thorough guide (specifically talking about the updated one on Dulfy). While it doesn’t include all of the possibilities regarding builds (how could it really?) it gave an exhaustive expository about quite a number of optimal builds and the theory crafting behind them as well as their situational use. Going through and clearly explaining every weapon, utility and healing skill available to Elementalists is especially appreciated.
I wish I could say this about the other ‘PvE meta’ builds for the other professions posted by others on Dulfy but whatever. This one gets a tip of my hat, a gold star…and a special cookie.

I had the same problem and it finally took a kind person on the forums to sort this out since it’s really counter-intuitive.
Put the sigil of battle on the same hand (main or off-hand) in each weapon set. There is a hidden bug where they will conflict if one is on main hand of one set and off-hand of the other. So for instance:
set 1
Main hand weapon = battle
Off hand weapon = accuracy
set2
Main hand weapon = battle
Off hand = Intelligence
This should fix it for you.
Regarding both Runes of Scavaging & Runes of Vampirism sets.
This might have been known for awhile but it’s worth a re-post since it’s still not fixed.
This is copied directly from the Wiki report of the bug:
- When an armor piece is damaged and then repaired, you must unequip all armor pieces and equip them again otherwise the 4th bonus will not work. You will no longer see the Leech indicator.
Very easy to test out and yes this is still bugged. Gets a little embarrassing having to constantly disrobe on the battlefield.

PSA: A word of caution when visiting Twitter sites of ‘hackers’. They often tweet links to sites that if clicked will download malware onto your computer to expand their botnet. If you visit their Twitter account use protection and DO NOT click on any links.
Of course don’t feed these vermin by following their Twitter either.
Kittening lizards are back…
Edit: Redacted link to avoid potentially adding to their botnet by users clicking on Twitter links. Better safe than sorry.
Got to hand it to ArenaNet though…they are back up after only a couple minutes (some servers go down for hours). They’re doing something right for sure.
(edited by Wasbunny.6531)
Yeah looks like it’s these kittening lizards (I typed that)

The kid who did the last one (chF) just got his twitter back…don’t know if it’s connected or what. Anyway I guess we just wait till they get bored.

If you have two of the same sigils (one on each set) make sure they are both on either off-hand or both on the main-hand weapons.
I had the same problem with the sigil of battle coupled with an ‘on crit’ sigil. I had the sigil of battle on the main-hand of one set and off-hand on the other set and they cancelled each other out. Thanks to a helpful forum community I was informed of this known bug.
So again (and this applies to all sigils as far as I know) if you have two of the same sigils make sure they are on the same hand for each set.
Yeah I’ve been seeing these too, especially on Ranger pets.
I have the same issue as everyone else. The cultivated seed got exchanged into a pet seed. I have everything done including the mysterious vine on one character.
Same here.
I still say the best solution to scepter AA is to make it a 100% projectile finisher (same for scepter clones). That way confusion can be added but only if an ethereal field is down…also would combo with other fields. Fits mesmers perfectly without getting too condi spammish.
Some are even quite appropriate.
That’s my favorite one so far.
So I guess the actual event never spawned for me afterall. What I thought was the event was just a new champ in the area. Here’s a link to Wooden Potatoes if you want to see what is supposed to happen.
Bugged for me and half the map as well (blocks progress). Are we supposed to pick up a flamethrower or something? Killed the champ twice and doesn’t advance.
btw never saw any flamethrower or whatever.
it’s actually an event that spawns a veteran and some vines. flamethrower becomes available from nearby barrel once event pops.
Ah ok. Hey are you THE Corvus? Like the one who made that amazing GW2 music? If so that was me posting comments.
Yeah they tweeted that they are working on it.
I don’t know really. I killed the champ twice and it was about 1/2 hour between spawns. But nothing progressed anyway so I’m not sure if that’s the intended timer.
Totally bugged.
I hate to say it but waiting for champs to spawn with a huge zerg is really reminding me of a certain now disbanded champ train. Things were going so good with the LS up to that point, so I feel pretty let down. Very stalled and awkward pacing for a storyline as well. No sir…I don’t like it!
Edit: Of course it’s bugged now anyway (killed the champ twice, 20min spawn timer) and no progression…so maybe when it works correctly it’ll be a more smooth experience.

I think the OP has a valid point, although it being a deal breaker is kind of extreme but to each their own.
Another mmo had this same problem with bosses becoming glowing blobs of light so they implemented a graphic option to turn off or at least cull particle effects from other players. It worked great and I hope ArenaNet will put something like this in place for the future.
Not long ago I was taking care of my cat that was dying of a slow and ugly disease. As a break from the heartbreak of watching him wither away I logged into GW2 and moments later he died.
Afterwards I made The Shadow of Grenth for my necro in memorial of him, and consider it the only ‘legendary’ with any meaning to me.
If you haven’t seen this by WoodenPotatoes he explores exactly this theory.
Really interesting, check it out if you haven’t.
I suppose I should chime in here as well. I used to run Flesh Golem before the Lyssa runes were nerfed and occasionally noticed it just standing next to me watching me fight. After that balance/features patch this happens about 90% of the time. Even with no pathing issues it’ll stand next to me like a Ranger pet on passive eating popcorn and watching the fight. At least make it clap when it’s all over.
Necromancer is METAL.
The synergies with conditions & physical damage, the control, hell even the sounds. It just feels like power tempered with intelligence. To me it’s just the most METAL of all professions. A sort of shock & awe playstyle.
There’s a lot that needs work though especially in PvE, but I think once the game carves out a more vital place for us we will shine like we were meant to. Like METAL.
I have all 8 80’s and Warrior by far was my most challenging…to not make boring. I finally came up with a totally non-meta build that was actually fun & interesting to play.
I think it’s wise to remember a game without fun is work, and work with no pay at that.
Since the Ddos attack (since yesterday when I logged), I had much lower FPS issues than 2 days ago. Is it possible that ddos attack lowers FPS ?
Not really. During a DDoS attack you’ll see major lag (5-60 seconds) in game as well as login delays and forum sluggishness. FPS issues is more about GPU, CPU & RAM.
Anyway this particular kitten wad (I typed that) hasn’t been on for most of the day…he might be down for the count.
I just want to express how impressed I am with ArenaNet’s handling of attacks like this. When this happened on New Years for instance games like League of Legends were completely down for hours while GW2 stayed online the whole time (even if slowed to almost unplayable). Whatever you guys are doing…great job! You all never cease to amaze me as a company. Someday I’ll seriously bake you those cookies you all deserve. <3
These are stunning. I do 3d modelling a bit and have made my fair share of weapon assets but these…these are just amazing. Can’t say enough about them or the art team at ArenaNet. True game artists.
Now back to bug hunting to get one.
Gonna save this one for future dead horse flogging.

So he says he switched his DDoS target to a…um…other kind of site so I logged into GW2 and the lag seems to be gone.
A couple google searches and it’s easy to find out who this kid is. He’s already had his info posted by other hackers . I won’t post any specifics but I don’t think it will be too hard for authorities to find this kid.
And to keep this on topic I just tried to log in (very slow) and had 5-60 second skill delays and then a disconnect. At least one of my guildies said they haven’t had any problems all day so…idk I guess they lucked out.
Welp, the kitten posted a screenshot of his whatever DDoS thing he’s running, said goodnight and left it to attack Wildstar & GW2 all night. So…yeah…might have to check back tomorrow.
This is what’s happening right now (and last night).
Any news from Anet? Will they be able to fix it soon?
Just on the Twitter account: https://twitter.com/GuildWars2
Is that person solely responsible for knocking out the game or is it the attack coming out of China like can be seen in another thread?
There’s a lot of evidence that this is the kid. Not much can be done unfortunately. At least the ones responsible for the DDoS attack on New Years got arrested shortly after that so fingers crossed.
Edit: Oh cool it looks like ArenaNet have been working on this all day, just not posting anything on the forums.
(edited by Wasbunny.6531)
Ugh this guy just won’t let up on Wildstar (&GW2)…another attack incoming.
