Can anyone confirm this? I’m not seeing any change to crit chance either so I don’t know how one can be confident it’s working and is just a tooltip bug.

Has Anet commented on this or something?

no.

For next year, if someone says “i’m offended”, their character should be turned into an attackable ambient critter.

Or the Wolfmaster so they can look and sound tough but drop like a rock.

I wholeheartedly support both these ideas.

I consider anyone whose feathers are ruffled by a one day salute to absurdity to be an ambient critter and thus fair game.

Condition stack increases PASSED 25!!

Wasbunny.6531

Just a quick interjection with regards to the pros and cons of hybrid builds (Sinister stats). It’s important to keep in mind one of the strengths of a hybrid build, and that is versatility.

A zerker focused party composition will always do more damage to a low toughness stationary mob, as it should. And a pure condi build will always do more damage to a high toughness, mobile and melee unfriendly (PBAoE) mob since dodges only lower zerker damage, but stacked condis tick regardless.

So when faced with the inevitable (fingers crossed) mixing of highly mobile and or ranged, high toughness mobs and others with low toughness and more stationary, instead of a full zerker party only being half optimal the hybrids can switch on the fly (weapon swap) depending on the strengths and weaknesses of what they face.

My point is you can’t judge the effectiveness of the weapon without weighing it against the strengths and weaknesses of the target. Variation of enemy stats / skills will render the ‘one zerker to rule them all’ calculations inaccurate (again fingers crossed).

The combination of removing the condi cap and Anet creating more varied encounters should in my opinion make hybrid builds more ‘viable’ and (more importantly) versatile as the game goes forward and we see more variation in what we face.

ok that wasn’t so quick…but I’m versatile so whatever

Hey welcome Mark…you’re going to have a blast. I’m assuming you’ve seen this review made shortly after GW2 launched.

Angry Joe Guild Wars 2 Review

Watching this still gets me hyped about GW2 because it’s all true. In fact the few minor criticisms Joe makes of the game have since been completely addressed. So many quality of life changes, new zones, abilities, etc. have been added to the game since that review that I think if Joe reviewed it today it would get an 11/10.

As others have said approach this game almost like you would Skyrim. Just explore and experiment at your own pace. You may decide to investigate some half hidden cave only to have it open up into a sprawling subterranean jumping puzzle or mini-dungeon. Some seemingly minor event to save a town invaded by centaurs might have you traveling through the entire map to ultimately fight a world boss with 20 other people. So much is hidden in this game and a lot of it is dynamic so take your time.

Going back through lower level maps remains rewarding as well since you are down-leveled to match that level. All resource nodes and any loot & XP from kills are completely shared by everyone so there is always a sense of cooperation instead of competition in PvE.

Anyway have fun…and please post back with your impressions once you get everything rolling. As Angry Joe said, “It’s just one big kitten party!”

Auto censor makes a lot of ‘kittens’ on the forums but GW2 is also one big kitten party.

Edit: Oh and I almost forgot here are two links that most find add a lot of information for new and veteran players alike.

WoodenPotatoes
Exhaustive lore and discussion about GW2 (and GW1).

Dulfy
Usually everything you need to know that’s not covered in game, especially pertaining to new content or updates. One caveat though, there are some profession guides that are mislabeled as PvE guides (for optimal builds) that are actually more specifically designed for optimized ‘speed run’ highly organized dungeon groups. It represents a very small part of the game as a whole so don’t feel the need to follow any of these guides at first.

Wait…is this seriously a thread demanding to know the ending (and thus being able to pre-approve the direction) of an open ended saga?

Yes, we as the audience are ‘completely in the dark’. As it should be. I mean if you’re really upset with how narrative arcs evolve do you read books backwards? Complain to the director that you sat for two hours in the dark without knowing the ending of the movie?

Edit: Sorry if that sounded hostile. I just know from experience the best way to kill any artistic project is to try to get a consensus on direction from the audience. The whole term ‘selling out’ defines this.

I believe the best approach is to realize that some will dig it and some will not, and leave it at that.

I don’t want plot details. And I don’t think anyone is asking for that. The thread certainly wasn’t going in that direction.

I want to know systems. Upgrades. Revamps. General information about some of the things Anet is spending their time doing.

Things like:
Will we see Cooking and Jewelrycrafting to 500?
Will we see more and higher level fractals?
New dungeons?
New WvW/PvP maps?
New maps/continents? Full size or the smaller ones we’re getting with LS?
New skills? Rebalances of existing skills?

And not just Yes/No answers, but goals and intentions. Instead of press releases that New Feature is coming out in a week, I’d rather see why this is coming out in a month or two, and what Anet thinks it will accomplish.

Yeah ‘The Road Ahead’. I totally agree actually. Sorry but for some reason I mainly read Gaile’s post which refocused the discussion around plot development.

I’ve been guilty of looking at another MMO’s forums and for all the chaos of that new game they did make a ‘Road Ahead’ type post, as well as a stickied ‘Known Bugs’ thread. I sincerely wish ArenaNet would do the same.

So yes I agree, I would love to see at least a broad strokes version of high level (though not set in stone) directions ArenaNet sees this game going. I think this would benefit them as well as us.

Ok, I’m back. About Harry Potter…

I think that the whole basis for the presentation in this and other threads about communication has a few pillars. And it’s one of them that I’m thinking about. J. K. Rawlings wrote a series of well-loved books, and I am sure (although I didn’t follow it) that people gave feedback to her on every release, heck, probably every nuance of every release, and that they also provided suggestions for future books. It’s a natural thing: People were highly invested in the series, loved it a bunch, and wanted to know more, or to have input.

In that small sense — and yes, that’s only part of the communication question — I don’t think I’d want our team to communicate about the game’s direction. Like, “Yes, so in the future, all frogs will become sentient, treble in size, and take over Lion’s Arch, leading to the elimination of all non-amphibian races. Yep, yep, that’s where we’re heading with the story.” NOTE: This is NOT where the story is going. This is only a wildly-improbable scenario offered for purposes of… umm… providing a wildly-improbable scenario.

My question: Do you agree that it’s good to not share that sort of information, information related to the actual direction of the game saga as a whole?

If so, then my sense is that you want to know more about the nuts and bolts.

  • “Are you looking at XXX new feature?”
  • “Do you intend to improve ABC functionality?”
  • “Is ### working as intended, or is it bugged, or will you incorporate player feedback to change it?”

Again, this is a small part of the discussion, but I wanted to make sure I was looking at that part accurately. I wondered if generally, no one is asking about the whole “Tell us where the story is going” bit.

Ok I just read this part and now in my eyes you are a double-plus-good hero.

Anyway to further reinforce your point with some other comparisons; I would never want George R.R. Martin, J.R.R. Tolkien (what’s up with all the R.R.s?) or any other author or artist/musician whatever to feel that they needed to elicit direction in their work from their audience. This is in the realm of ‘test audience’ and ‘focus groups’ that is a sure fire recipe for killing any creative direction whatsoever.

With regards to narrative or any other artistic direction please ignore everything said on this forum beyond the most general of feedback. I mean, what would happen if there was a public outcry that Ophelia in Hamlet was impossible to sympathize with and so Shakespeare immediately erased her from the plot fearing the backlash of the vocal minority?

Please just tell us the story you want to tell us. You are all doing a beautiful job over there…just keep it up.

I still feel bad for Gaile. It feels like after the communication blow-up, they just shoved her outside of the ArenaNet fortress of silence, bound and gagged, and told her to do a little dance to keep us entertained. As much as I’d like to see the things she’s said in that thread come true, it’s not up to her to make them happen. :-(

<3 Gaile, even though I’ve been a kitty to you sometimes!

Hey, dlonie — <3 you too!

And that is not what happened, with me getting this job. I’m not bound and gagged and told “don’t dare talk to them!” On the contrary, I’m here to do whatever I can to increase our talking to you! That’s the objective for my whole team.

Quite honestly, this is my best, most favorite, most beloved of all opportunities, and I’m thrilled to be here. Extra thrilled to be able to give some tasty information, like this about Engineers or this about copyrights, or this about the Gem Conversion Tool and any variety of other significant topics that you care about. Ok, fine, happy, too, to talk with players about favorite game moments, attainments, welcomes, and squirrels, too.

I have a thought, but I have a meeting. I want to ask a question so I’ll come back to this in a while. Remind me: It has to do with Harry Potter.

If you weren’t before (you were) you are now my hero (still) Gaile.

This is good(?) news but now we are left with the impression that either ArenaNet doesn’t have a basic and competent understanding of their own game economy and how players might be effected by this change or they knew exactly what they were doing, had solid financial reasons, and anticipating the inevitable backlash from the community chose to sneak it under the rug and pass it off as something that it was not.

So incompetent or shady. I respect ArenaNet too much to chalk this all up to an oversight or simple naivete and the only alternative take-away from this is going to leave a bad taste in my mouth for a long time.

Exactly. This isn’t rocket science. They should know better and I’m certain they do. They don’t really need any big brainstorming from the forums, they are professional game developers who absolutely understood the ramifications of this change.

I find it vaguely insulting being asked for ways to fix something by someone after they broke it for no reason. If I was a paid employee I would advise against this change in the first place, if that helps. Since I’m not I leave it to the professionals to figure out a solution.

Ok, guys. Some of you are unhappy about this change, I can see that. BUT… quite honestly, most of you are sort of (I hate to use the word) ranting (sorry!) instead of offering suggestions. ~snip~

I…wow I love you guys at ArenaNet but that’s almost as insulting as being told that not buying gems in bulk is too confusing for us to handle. I mean, this has to be one of the most non-irrational non-ranty threads I’ve seen.

Fix seems obvious. Let us buy however many gems we want/can afford with gold in any increments. I’m under no delusion that this would come as some great revelation though…as I’ve said before the people at ArenaNet are some of the best of the best. They already know this…that’s why it disappoints a lot of us so much.

THERE! Thank you, Errant Venture — that’s a solid suggestion with a reasonable tone. Thank you.

I mean why make 99 gems worthless? Rework the UI for clarity if needed but let us make our own decisions as to the exact number of gems we wish to purchase.

So much disappointment, really.. why limit the exchange rate to 400 gems? just what happened to you GW2?, every single time an update arrives, there’s always a reason to feel either sad or angry because of poor made decisions like these. It’s going to be a sad halloween and I don’t even want to imagine what’s coming next.. Pay2Win model at full force? labor points? -_-

The final portion of the VIP system appeared in the data files with this patch. The next feature patch will almost certainly contain the P2W VIP system that is currently in china.

We have been slowly moving this way for a long time now. Once the game started to decline they shifted more and more resources into pumping the game for cash. It is almost in full cash cow mode now. The actual content gets fewer and farther apart, but gem store gets faster and more “inclusive” and eventually you need to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars to keep up.

I will hand it to Anet, they did it slow enough that anyone who pointed out the change was charged with “slippery slope” or “straw man” fallacies, and shouted down.

With the NPE and the gem changes they are finally in the home stretch. Once we get VIP the path to the dark side will be complete.

a few months ago I would of thought this a silly post, but now I agree

haha Azure I was just thinking the same thing.

I usually get burned at the stake for being a ‘white knight’ (still love the game) but man…starting to have a crises of faith.

I am thinking this might actually be a bug. It feels a bit random to have 400 gems as minimum when there are gem-store items that costs much less. 100 gems seems more likely. So I would wait with all the raging (meh who am I kidding?) until we actually know if this is working as intended.

For the record I don’t like the current version of the change either.

It’s working as intended. There’s no way it’s a bug.

Yeah really…there’s no way this is a bug. The UI would have to be completely reworked to allow for other increments. This is deliberate and calculated…and very very wrong.

This is so disheartening, all the more since I love this game and I know ArenaNet employs some of the most creative and intelligent people in the business. This was not an oversight or an accident…this was thought through carefully by people who understand better than we how this will impact the player-base and the game economy.

This was meant to weed out those who exchange gold for gems in small increments instead of buying in bulk with real money. Since the gold to gems rate is based on how much is bought with gold as opposed to actual currency they might be anticipating that the gold to gems rate will go down to compensate slightly.

Whatever the rationale, it was carefully thought out to eliminate people like me from buying gems. I still love the game but I’ll miss the gem store.

heh…it’s just this one is really hard to fathom. It effectively made any gem amount below 100 worthless since there’s no way to round up to even multiples of 100. Hell I guess even anything under 400 is wasted, unless what you’re buying is <400 gems. Just…wow. Ok, I’ll stop scratching my head now.

Harmonious Mantras Losing Charge

Really thought this would be fixed with the necro bug but just verified that it’s not. Any indication that this is a known bug being looked at by the devs would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah this one’s annoying…seems like most of the teleports are putting you behind the target now (thus facing away). /sigh

Yeah just verified this one’s taken care of now. Still the same bug for Mesmers with Harmonious Mantras though losing charges when changing levels. Thought they’d be fixed at the same time but at least we got one fixed.

Mobs in Starter Zones Lie

I started noticing this too. Since almost all conditions have been removed from starting zones the descriptions will have to be changed. If getting some poison icon showing up was confusing people I can’t imagine how baffled they will be reading “Poisons” under the name and seeing no difference to other mobs.

Eliminating conditions from these zones is a mistake in my opinion. Once again having come from other MMOs this was one of those interesting mechanics that excited me from the start of GW2. Since the players are started at level one being able to apply conditions (and thus needing to learn about how they work) I see no logical reason to have them eliminated from mobs.

But whatever, the leveling goes so fast now that by the time you read those erroneous descriptions you’ve already moved on to the next area.

Shrug – I’m loving these changes playing through as a new warrior. The game seems clearer and there is a lot less overwhelm as a new player.

Only thing that I would like is a toggle for map completion as the direction arrow wouldn’t suggest leaving a map until its complete.

Still a lot of things that could be clarified but overall IMHO this is the best

This is an excellent idea! Would love this as an option.

Good morning! Allow me to clarify a few things:

Felicia Day is still a cast member of Guild Wars 2. We have no plans to recast Zojja with another actor.
It’s entirely possible that Zojja could show up in a future release. It all depends on what story we’re currently telling and which characters have an active role in it.

Wow thanks for this, I was under the impression not being able to get Felicia was dictating Zojja’s usage in the future. This is good news.
