Ascended Gear - Anet please fix this.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Weylin.6478

Just want to clarify since I saw this come up a couple of times in this thread and we haven’t actually released our full official patch notes for 6/23 yet….

Ascended Gear will be staying 5% better than Exotic Gear. Gear beyond the tiers we already have are not going to be added and our existing tiers won’t change, they won’t be our main end-game form of progression for your characters/account for all the reasons we’ve covered before – it isn’t what we think Gw2 is about.

Masteries is being added to PvE to help provide this system as our form of progression for PvE moving forward, and the WvW ability system exists for WvW and will be what we use to expand WvW in the future.

To more directly answer some of your point….We are adding a system that lets you change the stats for your ascended gear next Tuesday – which will cost a combination of 10 spirit shards, piece you don’t want anymore, 5 ectos, and an exotic insignia of the stats you want to convert to. Legendary Gear will remain the gear that can freely change stats any time.

Please sticky this.
Faith restored.

What if I bought the game 2 weeks ago for $40 and now I gotta buy it again for $50 if I want the expansion?! Think I got a bunch of memories that totally justify that?

This expansion is 2 new zones and a new profession, WHY is that costing more than the game that I JUST bought?

Does nobody else see the problem with this?

And why can’t the chinese people just buy through anet anyways for a digital copy and account? Oh, because they have a highly restricted internet because they’re suppressed by xenophobic tyrants?

These barriers are really a shame, and I’m really sorry they have to deal with all of that.

Tabs for saving and changing builds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Weylin.6478

Weylin.6478

Have a row of tabs in the hero equipment panel, each one stores its own separate set of weapons, armor, and chosen traits.

Tabs for switching to an extra build could be acquired every 40 levels, meaning 3 at level 80, and an extra one after that after every 40 times you level up.

The gem shop could have a consumable which unlocks a new tab before this 40 level interval, the price of which would be up to you as it’s similar to a bag slot unlock.

The maximum number of tabs would also be up for debate.

Switching between tabs may need some kind of channeling time, a large global cooldown on all skills after switching it, or some other such restriction to make it less exploitable.

Call me lazy, but I see no reason for speedy kits to only proc on equip/swap rather than just being a passive effect that’s active for as long as you have a kit out.

Swapping kits, and the cool down between doing so is basically 1 second, there’s really no reason that I can see for it to not just be a permanent boon that lingers for only a few seconds after switching away from a kit.

Right now it doesn’t really feel like we are getting value for our money.

This might change if it turns out they add more content to the expansion, or we get some uploads on youtube that really show the scope of the expansion pack.

Right now it feels like, at least in my opinion, that you’re charging as much as a whole sundae just to put a cherry on top.

The base game is massive, I’m still exploring things I’ve never seen before, and you want to charge a full games price for what is maybe 10% of the entire current world?

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

Weylin.6478

If you buy GW2 now, it comes with HoT.
If you already have the game, you are losing out if you just go with an upgrade.
If you get it as a separate account, you get 4 character slots + HoT.
If you get it as an upgrade, you get HoT, nothing else.

Just a week ago, GW2 was $40.

Everyone who just purchased GW2 for $40 will now have to buy it AGAIN for $50.
Anyone who’s just now showing up will have to pay the $50 for GW+HoT, that’s fine.

So veterans and intermediates alike got massively ripped off as they are having to pay the equivalent of $90 to get the full package.

This is punishing early adopters and recent buyers of the game, a friend of mine has been trying to get money set aside for weeks to buy GW2 and he finally gets it, and then this happens… If he had known, he would have just waited a few weeks and paid the extra $10 for all of the content.

Costs the same to upgrade as to buy new

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Weylin.6478

If you’re a newcomer, you’re getting an entire game, and 4 character slots, for $50
If you’re a veteran, you’re getting an upgrade to the game you already have, for $50

Now, to look at this another way, imagine you bought a 10 piece cooking set for $40 a few months ago. It’s nice, has a lot of features, you had a fair few meals prepared with it.
They’ve been advertizing and hyping a future addition to this set which adds 4 new pieces and really opens up the culinary possibilities, a lot of people want it, and are expecting to just buy the new pieces for something like $20 or so, after all, it’s just an extension to a set they already have…

Then comes the release date, and the entire 10 piece set, PLUS the 4 new pieces goes up for sale, bundled together, for $50. It’s a steal if you’re late to the party, you’re paying what the others did a month ago + $10 for a bunch of stuff they never got.

But oh, what’s that? There’s no option to just buy the 4 extra pieces? What do those customers do who already have the main set of 10 do? Exchange it for the new set and still pay $50?

I don’t know how else to illustrate how much of an unfair rip-off this is…

You know all those useless gray items that clog your inventory, can’t be scavenged or deposited, and can’t be sold on the trader to get rid of em? How about an item that, with a double click, sells all junks for you, on the spot?

Despite being effectively worthless by the current gold standards, they’re tedious to destroy, and take up space until you can find a merchant, I’m surprised this hasn’t been done sooner.

Honestly I don’t know what role these things have in the game, you can make more money from one iron ore deposit than an hours worth of junk collecting, I can only assume that the 10 copper from a chunk of crab meat must have been worth something at one time.

I’m sorry, what?
And the grenadier trait will just increase velocity and blast radius?

If this is the case, then I really hope the rework of the mortar into a kit fills that long range bombardment role.

Honestly, as far as the mortar is concerned, I don’t think 1500 will cut it. The projectiles are (currently) slow and painfully easy to predict and avoid, so if it’s going to be long range, it needs to be long enough that a player or mob doesn’t just close the distance in 2 seconds rendering the thing useless.

Convert wasted conditions into direct damage

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Weylin.6478

Weylin.6478

When a condition is maxed on an enemy, and when the time added is only partially absorbed (for example 10s of burning but only 1s is added, or 5 stacks of vulnerability but only 1 is added), calculate the difference and deal direct damage accordingly.

Some kind of table will need to be made that determines what kind of damage is dealt on overflow, but it needs to be carefully balanced or only applicable to PvE/Bosses.

The main focus of this suggestion is to allow condition builds to continue being useful once an enemy is fully saturated.

New trait system Good or bad?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Weylin.6478

Many players will lose 30% boon/condition duration. It will be interesting to see how this will be compensated.

If I understand correctly, when you choose a trait line, it will have some baseline attributes straight away.

For example, if you went withTools, you would instantly get a 30% reduction to tool belt cooldowns. Or, it might be a 5% reduction per trait into it.

I think the main thing is that CORE stats are being removed from it, but I could be wrong.

Make bag slot upgrades account wide

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Weylin.6478

Weylin.6478

Thread title size is limited, so if people actually read my followup post, they would see that I suggested that bags only apply to one character at a time, but can be moved freely.

I am NOT asking for a five dollar unlock to open up the slots of EVERY character you own.
I am asking for slot unlocks to be movable so if you delete a character, or start a new main account, you can move them!

This DOES slightly lower the value of the bags, but it ALSO makes them more likely to be bought! Few people want to spend money on something that’s permanently bound to a character, unlike nearly everything else on the gem store.

Does crafting ever INCREASE value?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Weylin.6478

Weylin.6478

I remember a game where you had to go through all sorts of minigames to craft stuff, it was really a time consuming process, it could take hours to produce a decent item, and only a few players were good enough at it, most couldn’t figure it out.

It was possible to mess up if you did it wrong, requiring even more work to fix the problem, and there was a system where items would occasionally need maintenance, repair, or further refinements.

Sadly it was some sub-only game and the graphics and everything else really sucked.

Does crafting ever INCREASE value?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Weylin.6478

Weylin.6478

Something that has always irked me with just about every MMORPG I’ve ever played, is that the ingredients to make an item are expensive, while the end result is borderline worthless.

For example, way back in the day, playing runescape, I finally got to the level to make adamantium armor… and find out that players often give those out FOR FREE?!

Now I understand why, because crafting TAKES NO TIME OR SKILL.
It simply converts useful items that are time consuming and difficult to acquire into exp and a less useful item that took little time or effort to turn it into that.
Most of these MMOs have ZERO depth to crafting, its just… select items, press craft, boom you’re done.

Why does it have to be this way? How do you make it so crafting something is better than just mining and selling materials? It has always been a money sink, and for what purpose? It’s better to just mine some materials, sell them, and buy what you need.

I’ve been playing casually, a few hours a day precisely to AVOID burnout.
It’s inevitable, and I’m not gonna ‘grind’ to reach top tier asap because then there’s nothing to do, and the journey felt pointless.

I plan on sticking around for a looong time, and hope I don’t wake up one morning having lost interest in the game out of the blue, which happens to me every few months…

I prefer to go through the game like it’s a theme park, and not stick to the ONE stall within that park which that has the highest prize ticket payout, since those things are always a long term time and money sink under the best of conditions.

I’m not entirely sure how the UI should look for this, but it would help a bit if we could see the cooldown on a lot of these mostly hidden abilities.

Use the function keys in musical instruments

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Weylin.6478

Weylin.6478

Is there some technical reason that instruments don’t override the function keys for additional features?

You guys force yourselves to squeeze as much use out of 10 keys as possible, yet it would help tremendously if you used 4, maybe 5 function keys.

The function keys could handle more miscellaneous functions like mode switching, metronomes, and octive shifts, keeping the main row free for a MUCH wider range, maybe enough to allow us to use a key of our choice, or choose from keys to play in.

The instruments cost 10 dollars, pardon me for wanting an infinitely reproducible digital sound maker to surpass the quality of a physical instrument bought at a similar price. :P

Weylin.6478

If they do make it account-wide, then a price like 1600 gems might be good.

Think about it, with EVERY character getting a slot unlocked, even at that steep cost of $20, once you have several characters, it becomes more sensible to buy bag slots instead of another storage mule at the above price.

Price per Inventory space aside, it’s still an added convenience you may want to get early on.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Weylin.6478

Have it so bag slot upgrades are account wide, but each slot upgrade can only be active on one character at a time.

Basically, you’ll have a number of bag slot expansions available to the entire account, and if you wish to transfer one from one character to another, you will need to remove items and the bag from the slot you wish to reclaim. This would cost nothing to do, because nothing is gained besides having more inventory available on your new ‘main’

I am not fond of account upgrades that are permanently stuck with a character, though I do think that it should only be available to one character at a time due to the lower 400 gem cost.

I WILL buy bag slots if they do this, otherwise, not a chance in hell.

I really haven’t found much use for it, it seems a tad weak and clumsy, but that 5 ability is nice, as is the heal for ally support.

I did have a run-in on an event where everyone kept getting fear spammed, so I set up next to the jerk and the stability kept me in place to actually deal damage.

The thing is, I just can’t really see where Mortar would shine. I tried bombarding large groups of mobs on some of the PvE events with tons of invaders, launching from up on a hill, but just getting into the thick of it with a bomb kit, or using grenades from a distance seems more effective.

In most cases, the act of even placing the mortar will draw aggro from 20 enemies, they’ll drop what they’re doing and close in on you, getting within your minimum range.

As for WvW, most players just dodge out of anything you shoot their way, the shots are extremely predictable and slow to reach their destination.

You could say it’s entirely my fault for not waiting for a sale, well I waited months for one to happen and it never did. Also, the last sale I bought something on was like 50% off, I buy it, and then 2 hours later it upgrades to a 90% off…

All I’m saying is that it really feels like you got ripped off when the thing you just bought immediately goes on sale after you get it… thoughts?

Ehh, I rarely see suggestions implemented if they aren’t overwhelmingly popular.

Anyway, what skirts are you talking about? I can’t really think of any medium armor chest pieces that have skirts.

Basically 90% of the medium armor for Charr, it’s all draped over the legs.
For the other races it’s toned down, but just completely overdone for Charr.

And, side note, you can dye outfits.

Indeed, but you have 4 channels to work with, and setting one color changes many different things. You can’t have, for example, a tan hat with black pants, both share the same color. They could alleviate it by just adding more color channels and making that picker panel larger to accommodate 12 color tabs or so.

Med Kit #1 skill now blast people in the face with a healing breeze. #2 now drops a buff pylon that buff allies nearby. #3 drops a glowing syringe on the ground.

Well this is interesting, certainly sounds more interesting than dropping weakly healing bandages.
I know there’s the trait to throw the things instead and improve the healing by 25%, but that takes up a whole trait that could be used elsewhere, it feels like it should be the default, rather than a trait as it actually makes them somewhat more feasible.

Rework the Med Kit?

Weylin.6478

The toolbelt skill for the Med Kit is fine, just a quick modest heal, but the rest?

The only time anything except the speed bottle is useful is if you’re holding down an area and have time to saturate it with med kits, otherwise the time spent deploying healing packages, and the 1 condition removal bottle, is better spent doing something else.

I’d rather see the first 3 packages condensed into a single 30s skill that deploys 3 of them at once, while the other two slots be used for something more flexible, like a close range medical applicator on the autofire, and a targeted AoE heal blast on the 2nd.
