A greatsword?? Pull one of those out in any dungeon party, and after a good round of laughter, you will be kicked out.

As for your ps comment, even if true, only proves there are a lot of very crap players in PvP/WvW .

Maybe if you took the time to learn your enemy, what their professions and builds are capable of and incapable of… you would be able to do what myself and the 2 posters after me can do.

This isn’t a first person shooter. It’s not who can jump out and shoot the other one in the face first. It’s about learning to adapt and counter what your enemy brings to the table. I spec for 190% vigor, because I learned that dodge is a straight counter to everything, with the exception of stun… which is why I carry a stun breaker.

Also the dps on GS is actually pretty nasty now. I hit 3.5k crits with my maul, which is on a 4 3/4 second cooldown, and I am built and spec’d tanky…. not even glass.

Best way to refine your capabilities is to either roam solo, or to play spvp (even if all skills and statistics don’t behave in the same way as wvw)

P.S. Last time I took my ranger GS into a dungeon, my party remarked how they never knew how tanky the GS was (kept outliving a pretty decent guardian)… oh and I was underleveled with half my spec and bad gear (killed many people in wvw like that too) Now personally… I mostly just wvw but I did level most of my 80’s through dungeons, and have played every path extensively with the exception of arah path 4 and a few stories. Here is a tip: Make your own parties, and no one gets to cry about anything.

I have 3 level 80 rangers. SB/Axe trap, zerker lb/sb, GS/SB tanky dps. I regret nothing. The class has a high skill cap, partly due to the pet management. Watch videos of other rangers playing and try to pick out the little details that make them good at what they do.

Every death is a chance to analyze the cause. Did you get outplayed? Did you get countered? Did you make a mistake? Try this next time.

If the coming update does what it should, I for one won’t be surprised to see both JQ and BG gone from Tier 1 long before SOR. At some point aggregate player skills, not numbers, have to be the differentiator between winning and you can’t really call what’s happening to us now losing.

Hybrid BeastMaster (GS/SB) - build guide

I like the build. I’m still working on my tweaking of it, but I wanted to add that I enjoy vigorous recovery much more, as I am in GS much more often than my SB. I also like boon duration runes, and orrian truffle and meat stew. Gives me amost perma DOUBLE vigor. More evades, more protection buffs, more damage mitigation. I was even able to solo down a full evasion build thief (4 daggers, endurance on swap, dodge caltrops, heartseeker spam) which was annoying because I didn’t even get to have my third evade attack often. But because I had so much vigor (didn’t even have food on) in combination with the cleansing from spring and sigil of purification… it gave me the upper hand.

Yes, my server went over a week without the gates being cleared so there was no merchant. Then thought I’d try guesting to other servers, and it worked, Tarnished Coast had the gates cleared with the merchant present in front of the gates.

Open on JQ. However Pent/shelt/jofast is broken…simply stuck. Orr is having some serious problems.

No I am guested on it right now, seems to be broken. Arah waypoint is always open. It’s the vendor I need, which only shows up after the chain event.

Greatsword – If you do 2 attacks, wait for the third attack to almost strike, then dodge roll. You get an extra evade when you attack after the dodge roll.

How it works -> Slash -> Slice -> Power Stab (dodge before it strikes -> Another Power Stab.

1 evade from power stab, 1 evade from dodge, 1 evade from second power stab.

For fun -> Trait for 15 points in wildnerness survival for endurance regen and dodge protection, Trait for vigorous renewal (each pulse of healing spring now adds vigor)

Eat orrian truffle and meat stew and put on lightning reflexes. Then go mess with people. cuz they can’t hit you.

Trying to find a server where the event chain that leads to the gates of Arah isn’t bugged. I need the karma vendor for my medium shoulder piece, it only comes from there.

The Arah waypoint is always open btw. It doesn’t mean the vendor is there.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I dont know if its a bug or not but when i try to finish someone in Wv3 i swap pets while channel for zypher but it doesnt matter i cant finish fast sry for my gramma

Switch pets before initiating the stomp move. Then it will work.

Guild backpack disappear on asura ranger

For asura ranger, the axe 1-4 skills make the guild backpack disappear then re-appear after the animation is finished. Doesn’t do it with any shortbow skills, or warhorn. Unsure about other weapons.

Axe 2 skill refuses to fire when you have a target selected that you’re not pointed at. This makes it so that you don’t get to control the cone and place it where you like if there is a target selected that is not in front of you. (It will go on a 3 second cooldown or so, without using the skill)

Why would you make 2 toons? Could just get a different set of armor and weapons and switch traits :P

Because of different races and equipment. It’s extremely easy to level characters in this game, so if I want a different set of racial skills, aesthetics, or whatever, there is no reason not to make another toon. I then also don’thave to carry around an extra 20+ items and I never need to change build. The only real downside to having multiple toons for different spec’s is when you want to change spec in wvw when there is a que.

I have multiples of other classes as well. Like my warrior for instance would need to carry around over 50+ items just to change to the 3 different spec’s I play (zerk rifle, tanky shout heal hammer, and condition longbow)

Sigil of Corruption refusing to stack.

This seems to be related to being downed/killed, and then afterwards the sigil refuses to stack anymore until you unequip and re-equip the weapon. Doesn’t always happen. (Yes, I am killing with the equipped weapon with the sigil on it) It happens on my necros, my engi, and my ranger. Happens with both major and superior sigils, not sure if it happens with minor sigil.

Rampager or Berserker?

Completely depends on your build and weapons. I have 2 rangers, 1 is a longbow/shortbow ranger with the trait for extended range and piercing arrows. So I am full berserker on that toon because it has such a safe operating distance, I don’t need other stats, so I hyper boost the stats I need.

My other ranger is a shortbow/axe condition trap build with piercing arrows. It’s in close range quite often so I run rabid gear to give me some tankyness. (to get the shortbow bleeds to proc, you need to be off at an angle of about 30 degrees from the front of your target, but because the shortbow projectile distance is shorter, if I want to pierce a lot of targets, I need to be close and target an enemy in the back line.

Ranger without pet option

I have always liked the idea of stowing a pet and gaining bonus stats instead, it is a common thought among rangers. I like pets personally, I wish they worked a little bit smoother, but I would like to have more options with my builds, and stowing a pet would be a way of doing that.

However, I thought up an interesting idea on this topic. What if instead of gaining a stat boost, our pet commands actually turned into the stowed pet’s abilities? (Their auto as a spike damage, their random ability, and their special ability) You would lose out on their auto damage, and their ability to absorb damage instead of you. But you would gain control of certain skills which were otherwise random and more difficult to pull off.

It would be like you absorbed the spirit of your pet…. it could be interesting.

Epidemic staff necro is by far the highest. Guardian is most likely second with staff, since they survive so long they tag many many targets.

Arrow carts are another good way to farm walking bags.

Arcane Thievery – Doesn’t seem to work at 1200 range when manipulation skill range is increased. Needs more testing. Also it will not steal warriors signet of rage boons, which is an elite. But it WILL steal a necro’s plague form stability as well as thief dagger storm stability, etc… which makes no sense.

The skill also refuses to steal boons when people are invuln, blocking, mist form etc. Even though it has no damage effect.

Skill cannot be cast backwards, yet says nothing about line of sight on screen or in tooltip, it simply puts it on cooldown. It also seems to not work on targets that are in the outer edges of your screen. Like there is some narrow cone of view in front of you that it will only work.

So your main complaint is “there’s a ledge/wall there, it was supposed to protect me!”
Correct me if I’m wrong (don’t) but you’re complaining about a group of mesmers coordinating to pull people up and over ledges and walls. Something that is usually not accomplished by one person. And ledges, which guarantee you no protection other than your own assumption that it does because it’s there, I mean, why wouldn’t it?! If that is correct, then yes, you are complaining about hit detection and collision boxes as well as organized play. As far as I am aware, temporal curtain is supposed to be able it pull up and over if it is placed and coordinated precisely with more than one person. If it is not, the victim just ends up slamming into walls or even moving back in place.

Guilds Wars 2 presented itself as a casual game and is only six months old. While that shouldn’t excuse it from a lot of issues, the fact that you’re trying to take something that is not game-breaking so seriously should be your hint that this game is not polished or even laughably close to perfect. Maybe you should try other things like spvp or pve? WvW as A LOT to work on, but there are a lot more things to worry about than mesmer pulls and false protection from ledges/walls. Then again, I’m not a serious gamer so my interest may lie elsewhere and I just submit bug reports and screenshots when I see these things.

And since this is an effort post we’re going to go the route of giving you suggestions to cope or until you decide to quit the game because of a group of mesmers.

1. Don’t stand on walls. Don’t depend on LOS heavily. If you must, prepare to be pulled and plan an escape route (this means saving your escapes and skills, especially stealth and/or stability). You can even go the extra mile and trait for fall damage.
2. If you are on siege, have an ally protect you (stability, regen, protection, etc). No friends? Get off siege temporarily to grant yourself boons.
3. Place siege (catas and carts) behind gates to avoid damage and pulls
4. Report false gods. Many walls, ledges, and spots that were serious offenders to gameplay have been patched and fixed.
5. Keep a mental note of false god, avoid relying on them. Since this isn’t something I have experienced numerously or have heard many people, I’m going to assume it’s few and far between. As such, keeping a mental note shouldn’t be difficult.
6. Dodge and strafe
7. Reroll a mesmer, party with other mesmers, pull people through the same walls you claim you’re being pulled though /revenge.

And as usual, you can…

8. FIGHT THEM

If you’re not able to make compromises and work around things even if you consider them easily fixed issues then perhaps you should take your “serious gaming” elsewhere and give GW2 more time to work out its kinks (if it ever does). I’m not trying to sound insulting, but this honestly seems like the best route since you consider it game breaking.

TLDR: One mesmer is not the issue, it’s when a bunch of mesmers do it. Wise up, learn to work/play around it, and report buggy walls.

Quite a lengthy post. Let me make sure I understand you properly.

1. You think that in all tower and keep defenses, defenders should not be able to stand anywhere on or near walls. From fear of the wall being designed improperly.
2. You think that a skill that is a “pull” that is now “lifting” when used multiple times, isn’t game breaking.
3. You don’t think that all walls with large visible barriers should be able to be assumed safe from pulls.
4. You agree that there are a lot of little things to fix (as I said as well), but this exploit isn’t one in your mind.

Other things to note:

No, the curtain doesn’t have to be placed in a specific way in order to lift people up and over the barrier, it only requires multiple pulls. I play a mesmer, this is where my knowledge comes from.

You talked about the coordination of pulls again as the problem. As I have stated more than once, the tactic is solid and viable. I do it myself to kill players, it’s highly effective. I coordinate many of my wall pulls with other players (necro’s being the easiest because of the pre-placed marks, then combo’d into an epidemic) but when it pulls the person off of a safe wall…. I’m sorry, it’s wrong. Will I stop using my pull to kill people? Absolutely not, do I wish the walls were cleaned up and that the skill didn’t have the unintended ability to pull people UP and over? Yes, I wish it didn’t do that.

I’ve been playing on blackgate since the start, and we’re now a tier 1 server. I’m not sure what kind of play you are accustomed to, but things are quite drastically different in top tier. Little things like this have a very large effect for our tier, as they get abused on a high level.

Thief is as it should be. I have 9 level 80’s, and have played a large variety of builds for all classes. I can assure you stealth is fine. Thieves are actually one of the easiest classes to counter.

All it takes is an understanding of the class. Thieves are good at assassinating single targets. They offer little else. No one, especially support classes or classes that rely on team play, should expect to be able to kill a thief 1v1. Regardless of player skill. The only classes that offer good counters are mesmer and occasionally engineer depending on the build.

How to counter thieves:

1. CC, easy enough to understand this. The large majority of people playing thieves are bad players. Why is this? Because it is a “sexy” class to play and there is a very large number of people playing it. So since it has a large player base, it also has a large base of bad players. Most of these thieves run 0 CC breakers, and 0 condition cleansing. Abuse them for it.
2. Retaliation, evades, protection, confusion. Do I need to explain this? No, I don’t.
3. Understand how thief stealthing works. They are only stealthed for 3-4 seconds depending on spec. There are only a few things they have a chance of doing in that time frame, depending on their equipped weapons. Learn the common builds, and how the thieves weapons utilize stealth. Melee thieves are going to do completely different things in stealth than a pistol thief, and sword will do something different than dagger. The worst thing you can do is stand there and wait for him to attack you and become revealed.

The real issue: Culling. Go play against thieves in spvp, seeing and hitting them isn’t an issue. When culling is hopefully reduced to nothing (HOPEFULLY) you will see a lot of dead thieves everywhere. But if you know how thieves move in stealth, you can kill them without even seeing them.

Play a class to know how to counter/deal with a class. Not everything can be countered, some classes are designed to kill other classes. Understand that and use it to your advantage. Your mind is your strongest weapon.

BUT since this game has yet to integrate diminishing returns on CC, mesmers are able to chain pull people on walls, and actually lift them UP and OVER the barrier after a few pulls in a row…..

Also many walls that have the normal “safe” rim around them, actually have certain sections that are not designed properly, and offer no collision when pulled, despite the visual showing that it would be impossible. Often these are in corners, but you can find them in flat sections of wall too, simply walk up and over them without jumping….

I can’t see this game retaining or gaining any kind of serious player base with things like this existing in our pvp environment. The wall inaccuracies itself is not a big thing to fix. As a serious gamer I cannot see myself playing this game much longer if simple fixes like this don’t even get addressed.

World vs World may have many flaws at the moment, but some have no reason to exist anymore. This isn’t a beta.

TLDR? Nope, not talking about the wall sections or ramps without barriers.

I was looking through the sPVP lockers, which usually have everything and also some things that don’t appear in the PVE. I checked the normal as well as the cultural. But I cannot find this armor anywhere. Anyone know if this exists in game?

MF has very little effect on good drops (rares, exotics, rare mats etc) and really only has a noticable effect on common drops. This makes MF gear great for farming still, as those greens and blues really add up after a while.

Example: 100% MF increases you chance of a drop by 2x right? Well that exotic that has a .001% chance to drop, has changed to a .002% chance to drop. Woopdeedoo. Where as that green that has a 5% chance to drop, now has a 10% chance to drop, which is a siginificant change.

Also drops seem to relate directly to straight damage. For example, when I use my full berserker thief build and armor, I make lots of loot. But when I play my tanky support guardian, which tags just as many enemies (experienced gained for each)… if not MORE than my thief… he gets almost no loot.

Also Anet confirmed the following:

MF only pertains to creature kills. Chests and the like are not effected by MF.
When a mob dies, its drops are determined at that time, switching to MF gear won’t change what you pick up.

Please revert it to the way it was. Seeing as that I have many many characters, I often will preview armors on a race before I go and make a new character.

Example: Playing my norn thief I will preview heavy armors to know if I want to spend 10$ for a new character slot to make a norn guardian…… Anet will now miss out on my money =/

I don’t see any kind of rationale behind it. Obviously players like to link items amongst each other, so that we can preview their nice equipment they’ve acquired. What’s next? Will you guys make it so we can’t preview weapons that our profession can’t use as well?

Your server wants free siege. The enemy server wants you to have no siege. Denying the enemy siege is just… smart. Anyone who didn’t do that would be foolish.

I think some of the most fun fights happen at the jump puzzles. I am a good jumper so I can use the puzzle to my advantage and keep mobile.

Party Time at IoJ Garrison

Milky’s no pants friday was in full swing at IoJ garrison. It was party central with lots of dancing and an abundance of fireworks. Party poopers were present (SoR at the south, and IoJ at the west) but we didn’t let it put a damper on our spirit as we partied for over two hours inside.

Looking forward to some more fun fights in the coming week.

I only use daggerstorm when we find an enemy portal. Then I drop it on/near the portal as the enemy starts to come through. Other than that, I hardly ever use an elite of any type for my thief. Basilisk venom seems to be bugged, and doesn’t always work anymore. Even when you land your first hit on targets… same with a few other venoms. That leaves you with thieves guild and dagger storm. IMO thieves guild is a very solo-centric skill. Where dagger storm has more team utility.

But I also don’t play berserker thief, so my daggerstorm is just used to reflect damage. Not deal damage.

Why Stealth?

Those who complain about stealth seem to do so because of their lack of knowledge about it. I play a guardian as my main, and thief as my main alternate. I also have an 80 necro and two level 80 warriors with different build types. I have no issue dealing with thieves because I understand how the stealth mechanic works, and how to predict a thieves movement.

I actually find it well balanced. Thieves have already been nerfed, and they are good in the hands of talented players. But the same thing can be said for any profession.

Go level a thief, or play it in PvP and start learning how to counter them. Do it for every profession if you get the chance and have the time. It’s amazing how much it will improve your skills, even if you never want to play that profession again.

Knowledge is power.

MF really only helps to increase the rate of common drops. It has hardly any effect on more rare drops.

Back on topic… you also must think, for all those people on your server that are wasting stats to have it… there are just as many on the enemy server doing the same thing.

Haven’t done fractals at all since this happened to me. And I’m am a very active fractals player. Does Anet not want people using their new content?

Please either disable the cliffside instance till it’s fixed, or revert to the old fractals build until it can be sorted out. Your community would like to continue to play.

We did this again today and ran into the same issue of no adds spawning.

We figured out that it was the Necro trait “Vampiric” (steal health on hit) that was doing the damage to the steal, instead of the condi like we originally thought.

Yes apparently any lifesteal does dmg to the seal. But after a while the hits stop connecting. Also, some of us have no lifesteal, like guardians. If this isn’t fixed in a few days I’m gonna have to get some spare weapons with lifesteal sigils on them.
