Thanks!
15 characters!
I just returned after a long time about a month ago and these caught my eye. I saw that they are a gem store item but they aren’t available any more. About how often do these pop back up? Has it been a while since they were sold?
Shadow dyes or we riot!
Super annoying Anet! I’ve been trying to get this mastery point for a week. Either the group stinks or whenever we are about to kill him my client crashes. It has happened twice. I waited an hour prior to reset for a good group for nothing twice now.! Please fix this. Matter of fact my game has been crashing a few times since the patch but never before.

Someone explain these to me. Magic gatherer? Where do you gather it from? Rift closer? Where are the rifts and how do you close them?
I’ve found 14 vials so far in lord knows how many runs. I need 31 total. I’ve been running 28 because that’s as high as my fractal level will allow. I haven’t found a single glob. That’d be worth 5 vials.
Yeah, I’ve been sticking to the first room and restarting. To give you an idea of how many runs I’ve done… I’ve leveled 75% the final tier of the fractals mastery with this. So far I’ve found 2 of the lowest tier essence (not even the mid tier). I’ve been doing 29s.
I tried opening it up but no one wants to farm grawl for hours on end.
They should really bump up the drop rates on these.
Oh, and I’ve been using birthday booster and MF boosters too.
I’m in tier 2. I can’t do tier 4. I’ve been doing scale 19 (volcanic) for 2 hours and I haven’t found a single one.
I would like to infuse a ring and I can because I don’t have any of the essence needed…or rather I only have 1. My personal fractal level is 40.
Is this stuff just crazy rare like lodestones or am I just unlucky?
I saw someone running around with a smoke/mist aura just like the wings of ascension but there were no wings to be seen. I’m 99% sure it’s not the ghostly infusion because it had all of the colors that the wings of ascension has, not just black and blue.
What item does that?

I have some characters who know more than 2 disciplines but are only masters of 2… so the extra disciplines are pretty much worthless.
It would be a huge quality of life improvement if ANET could do 1 of the following…
1. Allow us to “forget” disciplines, or only show the current ones on the select screen.
2. Display the crafting level alongside the discipline.
3. Make crafting account-wide (less likely I know).
Increasing the amount of ascended materials that players could refine would tank the market.
Is that really a good reason not to do it though? Do you think your average player cares about “the market”? And lets not kid ourselves they will still be quite valuable.
The question is not how good of a reason the timegate is, but is the reason more valuable to the game than the alternative.
The timegate creates value and lets crafters recuperate some of the expense of leveling the crafting skills which in turn is beneficial for multiple other layers of materials in the game.
It also facilitates the notion of having longterm goals in GW2. Something a lot of players need getting used to.
Removing the timegate has exactly 1 benefit: people can rush their item which is already possible for most of the steps for a price up when buying from the TP. (and no, potentially having the profit margins reduced and prices go down is not a benefit. Essentially prices of other items would spike as a result)
I’m not advocating for the removal of the timegate though. I’m just suggesting it be loosened so that crafting precursors feels more worthwhile.
I do not think increasing the amount to 2 per day would affect people’s profits that much. Sure the prices would go down but at the same time you will be able to sell twice as many in the same time.
Increasing the amount of ascended materials that players could refine would tank the market.
Is that really a good reason not to do it though? Do you think your average player cares about “the market”? And lets not kid ourselves they will still be quite valuable.
So, full disclosure, I just came back to the game after a 3+ year absence… so this whole crafting a precursor thing is new to me.
Here is my issue…
I can make 100+ gold a week pretty easily and I’d consider myself pretty casual. I’m sure that’s nothing compared to some of you but hear me out. If the precursor costs 800, I can save up and buy it in less than 8 weeks by doing content I actually enjoy rather than a lame scavenger hunt.
Meanwhile, if I want to craft the precursor I have to wait 75 days (almost 11 weeks) just to craft the materials needed. And on top of that I have to do the stupid collections. I’m sure that I could easily make the gold I would save by crafting in the time it takes me to do the 3 collections. So crafting is basically a lose/lose – it takes longer and when you factor in the time spent doing the collections the gold savings isn’t quite what you think it is.
I’ve already started down the road, so I might as well finish at this point…but in the future I think I will just use the TP.
It would be nice if they bumped up the ascended materials to 2 per day.

I don’t believe the ‘whole account’ is lost when refunding only Heart of Thorns. (They really should update the Knowledge Base.) Many have received refunds without losing their Core game account.
But, as stated above, having used the Gems may invalidate any possible refunds.
You can always contact the CS Team and ask.
Good luck.
They’ve already stated that the only way to refund HoT is to disable the whole account….
Here’s one example of a HoT refund without losing the core game:
This is correct. We should not be terminating your account for HoT refunds. You will lose any paid access features (i.e. You may go back to PFF if that was your game status before upgrading). If you request a refund FOR HEART OF THORNS and they respond with a “you acknowledge that your account will be terminated” please ask for a supervisor.
(Chargebacks are always terminated; no matter what portion you’ve placed the chargeback on).
What about my masteries and stuff like that? If I rebuy the game will the progress be where it was before or will it reset? I asked CS and they did not respond.
I don’t mind crafting in general, but the way it is implemented in this game is overkill. A bazillion recipes and a bazillion materials. Its kind of overwhelming.
I’m also fine w/ account bound. It is much better than before when it was all soul bound.

Of course it goes on sale like 1 week after I buy it…
Is this just a glitch? My map shows an area marked level 60 with no name. If its for real, how do you access it? Is it a guild hideout or something?
Thank you. This was very helpful.
Can you put AR on exotic gear? Which ones will work?
I’ve seen guides on what different stuff does… but not the specific order you should go.
If you had 0 infusions/AR – what are the specific steps you should take to get to 150 AR? And what if you want offensive infusions on everything?
Explain it to me like I’m 2. Please. I don’t want to make a mistake.
Should I just buy the +5 versatile and throw them on everything now for a start?
(edited by Will.9785)
I would buy a waypoint completion thingie from the gem store in a heartbeat. Its one of the reasons why I can’t stand playing alts even though I would really like to.
I agree w/ the concept of needing 100% world completion before its use.
Title should really be: Make Refinement (Crafting) its own tab
This is something of a minor annoyance for me as of late. To refine materials you need to scroll through a long list or click the various recipe components to bring up sub-menu after sub-menu.
Can we move refinement to its own tab? This way you could hit it and only see the refinement recipes. I can’t speak for anyone else but this would be miles better for me.
I got this to work after my 3rd attempt.
Just did the event for the ancient orran artifact in the first collection and she just disappeared without becoming a vendor.
The number is fine. Locking them behind raids is not. I can’t even find a good fractal group half the time. I won’t even think about raids unless I had a dedicated group.
Players had a couple months warning that this was going to happen. There’s no need for every player to have been able to summon the vendor one last time.
The thing is, ANET has said that legendaries should take time. OK. So alot of folks aren’t in a rush because of that. Some of us have real life responsibilities that force us to go away from the game from time to time. We cannot be expected to keep up on every whisper from a dev.
I was slowly working towards the goal. Now my progress has been erased. Folks have every right to be angry and expect better of ANET.
Yup. Just spent another 15 minutes. I tried to take a camp but 1 of the enemies was invulnerable/bugged. Still haven’t seen anyone.
So I was away for a long time but before I left I endured WvW to get enough badges to get a Gift of Battle, but I didn’t buy one because I didn’t have the bank space to hold it.
I just came back and read about the changes. Talk about moving the goal posts. It made all of the WvW I had to slog through before meaningless. Clovers and Obsidian shards? I already had those. Obsidian shards are like the easiest thing for the legendary.
Anyway, the point of this thread is not to complain (though I would be remiss to state that at the very least what the devs should have done is mailed every player a ticket to summon that vendor 1 last time) but to talk about WvW.
I want my legendary. So here I am, back in WvW for the reward tracks. I have been here for 30mins and I have not seen a single other living soul. I’ve just been wandering between 2 points back and forth capturing them.
Are they seriously forcing people who want a legendary to do this? I mean there is NOTHING here. It is beyond boring.
Or is it gone for good? I missed out on this one and I really love it.
I basically played the game for 6 months when it came out trying to find a class that clicked and stopped playing due to life events.
During that 6 months I tried every single one of the classes. Each one had something about it that I didn’t like…be it something major like the overall mechanics of the class or something minor like the weapon selection. The ones that came closest were Warrior, Necro, and Thief.
I bought the expansion hoping it would address some of my issues but so far I’ve been running into the same problems as before.
I would really love a class where I could use greatsword with dual weild swords and have it be optimal but it seems like no such class exists. One of the goals I had was to one day get a legendary but I only like a couple of them… and now I’ve just read that they aren’t coming out with more of them even though the website makes it sound like they are coming out with new ones for each type.
A perfect class for me would be to take Revenant’s sword skills combined with Warrior’s greatsword skills. Why they gave Revenant staff is beyond me. There are only like 2 ‘combat’ looking staves in the game. How the game shipped without some sort of a Darth-Maul style weapon is beyond me.
I am having fun exploring the new maps and I like the gliding but I really would like to fall in love with a class and so far I just haven’t been able to.
Anyone else feel that way? What did you do?
Thanks for the help/advice everyone. I have decided to upgrade. I may buy another account down the road if I really get into the game again.
I totally forgot that I had 2 more character slots and Krytan armor skins (gem store item) on the account. Also I had 110 gold. Not a lot, but something.
I stopped playing the game in June 2013 and I am reinstalling now to see what’s changed.
I never managed to get any legendaries or acquire much wealth in the game. I think I got world completion, some laurels, and some miscellaneous gear and that’s it. I doubt I have 50 gold on the account.
I don’t have much (if any) gem store stuff on the account.
Would it be worth it for me to create a whole new HOTS account so that I can earn the daily login rewards on 2 accounts or should I buy the XPAC on the existing account?
What would you do in my situation?
+1. I’m not colorblind but I really feel that accessibility is a very important aspect of games, especially ones in today’s day and age.
Very surprised ANet hasn’t implemented this. What is taking them so long?
See also Perfect Dark Zero. This mode is a lot of fun. Basically 1 person starts off as a zombie and everyone else is alive. As each of the living players is killed off they respawn as a zombie and switch sides.
The difference is that in Perfect Dark the winner is determined based on a time limit and not last man standing. Basically if after 10 minutes there are people still alive the ‘survivors’ win. If everyone dies in 10 minutes the infected win. I like the time limit since it ends stalemates.
The current preview window is functional but there are some drawbacks, mainly with respect to scale and weapons being cutoff on the ends.
My suggestion is that there be a button on the preview window that when checked, allows your character to actually wear the armor as shown in the preview window for a limited period of time (10 seconds). During this time you would have complete control over your character. After 10 seconds your character would revert back to his/her regular self.
This way you can see what the gear actually looks like on your character during actual game play as opposed to a zoomed in window. The difference between the two can sometimes be night and day.

I like the last name a lot. First name could use some work though since its germanic instead of nordic. Also you even kind of hint that it should lose points since he is a follower of bear named wolf.
First name = 4/10
Last name = 10/10
Overall 7.5/10
My warrior’s name is Freyr Bloodedge.
For unload you should do an evade and flip, Lara Croft style, in whatever direction you are going (or backwards if stationary like the regular evade).
Death by a thousand cuts. That’s what is happening to the thief class. They are teetering on the edge of the grave right now. Some might argue they have already fallen in (they certainly have with respect to PVE).
This change was unnecessary because of how low the rate of fire is and how slow the projectile actually travels. They’ll need to increase both now to fix the weapon if they insist on keeping the homing out.
A sad state of affairs.
Is it normal to be swinging on someone for very long periods of time and seeing “block, block, block” constantly? I mean for long periods of time? As in several iterations of the dagger auto-attack?
See topic. Getting sick of fighting guardians with their block up constantly. I fought one today and I swear I was just swinging on him for 10-15 seconds non-stop w/ my auto-attack while he just stood there basically ignoring me.
So how do we deal w/ them?
People talk about stealth like its overpowered but it is nothing compared to this nonsense.
Caledon Forest then Queensdale. Its funny, so far the 2 mentioned in this thread (Wayfarer and Metrica) are my absolute least favorite.
I thought they made it pretty clear during SOTG that it was 2 presses. The dev said the ability changes. To me this sounds no different than Sword #2.
you never use it, you suggest how to change it
I never use it because it’s not worth using IMO. It just isn’t a fun skill. My suggestions were things they could add to make it more useful.
rofl, its a 35-45 second shadow step that is affected by traits to give boons or do damage (or heal in the incoming patch). If you don’t understand the power of it thats a problem with you not thief profession mechanic o_O
Thieves already have so many ways to shadow step though, so in that respect the untraited “steal” by itself seems redundant. Stealing boons, healing, or doing damage would be great if they were built into the skill by default but they are not. You need to invest a lot of points to get those perks. Without them the skill is pretty much worthless. No other class has a mechanic that is so initially bad.
That’s why I suggested some alternatives (like the hit and run or the backstab setup) so that it would have some other uses. As it is now, it barely registers above your typical shadow step.
And for the record I’ve tried the traits and the juice ain’t worth the squeeze due to the traits being spread out all over the place.
They should probably move Serpent’s Touch, Improvisation, Mug, and Hidden Thief into Trickery and collapse a lot of those traits. They hinted at collapsing thief traits during SOTG so hopefully that’s what they do.
(edited by Will.9785)
Does anyone else NEVER (or almost never) use the thief’s steal mechanic?
I don’t know what it is but I can never remember to use it. I’ve played all of the classes extensively and I use all of the other classes F1-F4 abilities all the time but I always forget about steal.
It just seems very underwhelming to me. That must be the reason because I have tried and tried and tried to remember to use it but I just can’t.
I think a lot of that is due to the fact that the other abilities provide better feedback (for lack of a better word). When you use steal it is pretty unspectacular. You just warp to the target (assuming it works) and you have an item in your hand. If you are close to your target you don’t even move very far so its like you hardly notice it. Not only that but the item is dependent on who you are stealing from so its not really consistent from fight to fight the way the other classes skills are.
It would be nice if it was spiced up a little so that it did more. Maybe give us different types of steals the way mesmer has different shatters?
F1 – steal (but does half the damage as mug so that it is at least doing something)
F2 – steal then shadowstep away (grab an item and get out, like a thief would actually do)
F3 – shadowstep behind your target and steal from them (setup for backstab, long cooldown)
I don’t want to get too off topic here. I’m really just curious if there are other people out there like me who never use the skill.
Thief shortbow is amazing. Great AOE dps w/ #2 and evade/cripple on #3. Teleport on #5.
I’ve leveled ranger and warrior to 80 as well and Its definitely my favorite bow.
I have 100% completion but I happen to agree with the OP. I’m on JQ (which never changes color). Flipping keeps in tier 1 is no simple task. It takes a lot of coordination/people to do. The only reason I got 100% was because I’d log into WvW every day for a month (when I had other things I would rather be doing in the game at the time) and eventually I ended up in the right place at the right time and got it done.
I think the idea of being a non-combatant just so that you can explore and get the POIs is a great one. Random assignment of colors within tiers (so that it is not dependent on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place) would also solve the issue.
Dyes and anything soul bound. Everything soul bound should just be account bound.
It probably would have been faster if the 4 of you would have cleared the trash and helped, tbh rather than just standing there. This is why I’m glad my guild never skips stuff. It honestly does not take long to clear the trash and you get gold and items for doing it.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I just want to get to 30/50 to unlock the heritage armor and weapon skins.
