Sadly I don’t think anyone cares for character development or story. There could be strong implications that Evon eats children and is a Jormag worshipper but players would still vote for him because of that fractal.

It’s really just about the fractals in the end.

That is perfectly good reason. I want my political candidate to be good-two shoes mr. good doer, with cristal clear past and stright, correct plan for future. But that’s in real life. I search for complitly opposite thing in games. There is old saying, more like a curse:
“may you live in interesting times”
Because, what really mean interesting? What we stuff into history books? Wars, plagues, battles, great generals and traitors – something like daily news in TV!
So yeah – I want to live in peaceful times, but I want my games to be interesting.
“Evon eats children and is a Jormag worshipper”? Good, it’s just a game. Make it fun, make it count. Why I need to watch impresivly boring Ellen “whateverUdoit’smypride” Kiel, when some charr is eating children and is worshiping Jormag! Gimme gimme gimme ^^

I’m wondering why I even bother bringing in logic if it will just get ignored.

*sigh*

Oh. Right. Because people are dead set on single-player RPG storytelling in an MMO. And they want everything to be because of them.

lol
and now I’m wondering why I even bother with answering. No point when everything is answered with mithical magical power of logic that overwrite every argument.

Oh. Right. Because some people are dead set on legendary impassable MMO boundries that can not be crossed to not casue travel in time paradox. And they want everything to be trivial, because You know. 5th person with simillar background, character and narration is something to be expected from devs who have in their ranks some really amazing storytellers.

…did You even read what I wrote, or You gave up after first counterargument?

She’s done a lot to deserve it. I’m not sure how you haven’t noticed any of it. Unless, of course, like most gamers you bypass all dialogue in the Living Story then ask why things don’t make sense.

Agree on disagree. Above fact that she was given information about den on silver platter, she did nothing above nothing more than riding players back. I don’t say it’s wrong or something – but look at Braham and Rox to see it can be done with more grace. So – if Flame&Frost is in same universe and in same line of storytelling, I can assume (like majority of players) that Ellen actually did nothing more than claim outcome of our deeds and talk in our name with some higher NPC figures. Let’s say You have one thing right – all she “did” was dialogue, so if someone skipped it, he/she skipped whole Kiel involvement.

I saw Ellen Kiel actually going around reviving/healing members of my group when we ran the Aetherblade Retreat. She is the first NPC in the history of the Guild Wars universe who doesn’t think it’s cool to act like a suicidal chipmunk and spend most of any combat faceplanted on the ground.

Never saw that – maybe mine was broken or maybe… wait. I couldn’t witness that. My team was reviving her all the time, no one died if I reacall. But if she did that, it’s actually cool. Good to know.

This has gotten away from the OP though. Pretty much the OP is right on, we constantly have people taking credit for the work we do. This isn’t new, and it won’t stop. It’s part of the same old bs in MMOs. “Oh we couldn’t give the player power, because that would..um…because…well you see….o.k. so um…if we did you guys would be bored…yeah that’s it”. No, it’s just lazy writing.

And I can drink to that ^^

Finishing it with quote from our own Ellen Kiel “I’ve stood by the people of Lion’s Arch in good times and bad…” – where word “stood” carries the ultimate meaning of whole phrase.

He asks for your advice, just as he relies on his other advisors. A good leader listens to his underlings. I see nothing wrong with this.

Yeah, agree to a point. If he is really as bad strategist as he is, leader made of one medicore speach and complitly useless in fights… why he’s advisors can’t kill him for a greater good? The cause will only gain on having strong leader… which Trahearne is not. He’s purpose was purely on cleansing the land of Orr – You don’t need to lead anything more than a bucket and mop with You to do that. An army is great overkill

Why can’t people understand that as players, we do not want what they’re getting!

aaand

If you had become a god, the game would be over. There would be nothing left for you to do.

Ok, one thing clear. If You don’t know how to resolve plot other way, it’s Your thing. Doesn’t matter to rest of us, so don’t say “we” – it’s just You.
Wanna example how to do it with player becoming a god? Sure. Let’s asume that after finishing off Abbadon, player and not Kormir become godly beeing. Made of magic yadda yadda yadda. We could be granted with small instanced area – simmilar to HoM or house instance in GW2 – our own godly realm to feel our awesome godlyness. Above that? We can spawn our avatar back into the world, to walk between mere mortals. Few OP PvE only skills – nothing to fancy, nothing that Anet haven’t done before. Something in line with the GW1 “Pain Inverter”. And that is it. Your godly beeing is transforming to full power in it’s own realm, and You still can roam Tyria with Your own avatar. Convinietly looking like Your old self etc.
Was it hard to come up with? Nope. Would it be hard to create? Nope – nothing that Anet can’t handle or done before. The only reason why Kormir is better suited to this role is fact, that this new god could appear in GW2. But that was not the issue wasn’t it?
Not that I want my character to become god – no no nope. I just find really silly statements like “we don’t want that” or “it can not be done”.

Neither Trahearne nor Kormir are gloryhogs. They didn’t ask for the positions they were given. The gods forced the gift upon Kormir. Us, the players, were the ones that recommended Trahearne to be the Marshal. Neither are/were vainglorious. Both were humble in their taking of the mantles.

Good point. Agree. On the other hand – it’s a cheap plot trick to save some trouble in the future. All this characters (Trahearne, Kormir, Rurik, Togo, Mhenlo to some point and especialy Ellen Kiel) share some resemblance in nature. They are boring and overwhelmed by a burden that doesn’t suit them. It was fun once, interesting twice – but old at third attempt. To have character that need to become hero against all odds on top of own nature – is great concept. Shame most of them never become hero, just rode on players back to greatness. Good idea, great concept, missed execution. What I miss in Guild Wars universe is really strong character – those who deserve to be followed. Conflicted – yes, maybe broken – sure, but worthy. At the moment most worthy are those who we are defeting. Vizier Khilbron, Shiro, Cannah is even more interesting than Ellen (by his own inner conflict and poor choice of action). Abbadon – the tragic god with sad ending. Few prominent members of white mantle – those corrupted or misslead. In whole GW univeres my favourite, best written (in my opinion) are those guys who we meet in GW:Beyond. War in Kryta and especially Winds of Change present us interesting NPCs.

I’ve not seen any of these NPCs be entirely useless and making things worse. Remember that not all they do you see. And if you pay attention to the storylines, they have been busy behind the scenes while we’re out being heroes. Busy doing important stuff.

Want example? From GW2 to make it easier. Braham and Rox in Molten Facility – they weren’t useless. Another? Warmaster in AC p3 while fighting Colossus Rumblus. They are not useless annoyance. Maybe they are not kings&queens of AI, and NPCs awareded with golden laur for depth personality, but they are decent in comparison to Ellen Kiel.
Agree on storyline point :P

what's driving your vote?

Wizzlock.3492

I will vote for Evon for several reasons.
1) Fractal. I see lot of people saying that we don’t know what happened in Thaumanova. Actually knowledge is somewhat similar on both topics. All we know about Fall can be closed in short sentence on wiki. Reactor? Similar lenght note on wiki + ingame blown reactor + spiritual successor in the “person” of CoE (if I got it right). Not that Thaumanova isn’t interesting, but it isn’t that interesting to me. On top of that – chance to see margonites, gods and crystal sea on GW2 graphics in contrast to another Asuran/Inquest stylish floating cube thingies… I don’t say that “turning worlds fabric inside out” can’t be reason to show something amazing, but same goes with gods power and evaporating sea. On paper Abbadon just looks better.
2) Personality of candidate. Evon seems like nasty pice of work, while Ellen proved to be boring to a point I can’t stand her. The only reason that would make me consider to choose Ellen would be a promise to remove choosen candidate from story. Hide her behind sealed door and never ever ever eeeeeevah show her sunlight again. Burry her under bureaucracy papers…
3) Most important – my imagination. What do You think will be the outcome (in story) of our choice? If Kiel wins, what will change? Maybe some struggle with bureaucracy here and there. Cleaning a mess that should be cleaned long ago (pirates roaming right below LA), maybe some organised help to those who need it around world (Lion Guards helping humans to settle truce with centaurs) etc.
What can evon give me? Well… did You played Dishonored? Think about it – greedy, two-faced, but actually complicated character, given a lot of power, ploting and scheming from the heart of bigest democratic city. In a world that is going towards steam-punk, filled with magic and with dragons shadow above head.
That sounds 100 times better to me. Can’t really find anything thrilling for Ellen – can’t say Anet writers will let us down, but she’s sooo… vauge, indistinct, neuter… and I’m generous enough to not throw to writers such a chalange. Writing for Evon sounds a lot more interesting to me.

There is only one reason I would ever consider to choose Kiel.
If voting for her will guarantee me, that no future story will include this boring, poorly written (in my humble opinion), annoying person. Seriously – if choosing one candidate for Captain’s Council would be equal with banition from main story… then Ellen Kiel, warmth of my heart will go to you.
If not? I’ll vote for charr for same reasons. More screen time for Evon paradoxically can shrik Ellens exposition.

I didn’t said it can not be done. I said there is no real counter. People will find workaround for everything.
And let’s make one thing clear. Read. I’ll make it easier for You…

…easier to ask for a nerf right?

…You are talking about nerfing (whining to nerf stealth at least). Most topics about OPnes of stealth I saw was about fact that it can not be countered…

How asking for more diversity for other classes means nerf for thief? Point me exactly where I wrote that, because I’m confused.

well I have answered that there is plenty of ways to counter stealth, every class has some.
I have over 1300 hours spent on my thief and I can counter it with every other class I play, and when I have been beaten I don’t complain, I just look for my mistakes. People nowadays think they are all pros and cannot accept a defeat.
The real problem on this forum is that 11 months after the release there are still people that do not undertand how to counter thieves and it’s not a thief’s fault if they complain all day long.

One more time, slower. We started this in a wrong way.
1) It’s my opinion, You don’t have to agree.
2) I claim that there is no direct counter for stealth in skill/trait manner. I didn’t wrote it can not be dealt with – because sure it can. I wrote that there is no DIRECT way to do it on any class. I still belive I’m right to have my opinion, and on top of that – my opinion is right.
3) Ok, 1300 hours – bravo. I have only around 800. How much do You have on other characters? Because I was talking about cross class thingy.
4) where I wrote I am pro and that I can not be defeated? More than that – I wrote that on my thief (and only on my thief) I feel almost undeafeted, because it take great skill to actually force me to finish lost fight. And that doesn’t happen offten.
5) stop writing to me, like I’m hurt because my class wakittented badly by thief. I play thief. I just think that shifting weight from perma stealth to other activities would make Thief more interesting class – but it’s discussion for another topic.

The real problem on this forum is that 11 months after the release there are still people that do not undertand how to counter thieves and it’s not a thief’s fault if they complain all day long.

And that is perfect example of what I’m not talking about. Why do You bring it up post after post? Where the check was it written in this topic?! Do You even read what I write, because Your answers are so indirect, that I have feeling we are talking about absolutley two different things. I wrote that not all whining is pure whining – example “stealth” so whining aside. And You come back to whining for sake of whining? Whining I say! Whining on whining! And whining on whining is still whining
And You don’t find it strange, that after 11 months even casuals from hot join learned how to deal with everything except stealth? Sure it’s not Thief fault – I agree. 100%! That’s why I wrote, that in my opinion problem lies in other classes – they have no direct way to deal with stealth. You have direct way of dealing with confusion, with stuns, burning, clones, invisible stomping etc. Actually stealth and mes teleports are two exepctions. While I don’t see possibility to counter mes teleports without complitly ruining the skill, I do see many possibilities to work with stealth to make it more dynamic for victims, not only to a thief.
But hey – that is my opinion.

i writed about the engi becouse people say that is OP ,so i writed that we dont have stun break in the main build ,so for example just condis fear fear fear and ur dead
only about 1 prof u can say that is OP now : nekro
couse s/d thief and fresh air ele im not sure couse they are more single target builds
and nekro can destroy whole team(with support of course) if he is lucky or skilled
engi is very good at tourneys ,but not OP

Agree on that, but I really suck on engi. I really envy people with skills that can sqeeze some juice from this class

…about stealth :
learn to play with it …

I don’t need to. I really enjoy playing thief in PvP (WvW as well in matter of fact). I’m simple acknowledging fact, that there is no direct or stright way to deal with it on any class. Heck – some classes have no way to deal with stealth at all. Is it OP? Never said that – I treat it as annoyance. It’s not game breaking for sure, it’s core for one class (1/8 of whole package!).
If You look on PvP state, it’s easy to notice that there are more burning problems at hand, but on the other side… every single unfair advantage of mentioned Ele, ranger or (to some point) mes, was dealt with (more or less well…). Stealth is only mechanic that wasn’t adressed.

Actually I’mn not quite sure I can agree.
Yeah, there is lot of whining in forums (what did You expect? It’s forum, internet, PvP related topic…).
Take stealth for example. You are talking about nerfing (whining to nerf stealth at least). Most topics about OPnes of stealth I saw was about fact that it can not be countered. Don’t give me crap about AoE – I play thief from time to time and I know how much “good” can do to my victim throwing AoEs in my general direction. There’s no need to nerf stealth as it is, just give some tools to deal with it to well… someone. At the moment no one have any proper tools to do that. One of reasons I like to play thief – I’m only in fights I want to be and as long as I am wining. Actually if not by someone who is two or three leagues better than me, I can’t reacal to be (ever) taken down.

Agree on stun braker. Every class have some options, why force it into main build?
Agree more or less about rest, thou haven’t seen any one shooting Ele yet. Maybe it’s because I dpon’t play tourneys latley and my Ele is mostly for PvE, but hand on heart – can’t even reacall build You’re talking about.

and discount of black KEYS so arena net do more more PROFIT the charr gona win !!!!

No one is forcing anyone to buy keys; if the sale didn’t draw out more people than those that usually buy keys or cause those who do normally buy keys to buy more, ANet would actually lose money.

Unfortunately, plenty of people are usually influenced to buy whenever they see sale in blinking lights.

MOAR blinking lights please!

Back on topic. Both of these characters are far from my favoure. Actually I wanned to protest and keep my votes, but hey. Abaddon – toooo tempting.
And actually it is better than real politics. I do belive Anet will make this fractal (no idea how good/bad, fun/unfun, lorefull/lorecrap it will be) and that is lot more than I’m used to. Wanna example? In my country, guy who won prime minister chair, deleted all his promises from web page and for all years didn’t even try to fullfill single one of them. When someone accused him of lieing (thing was throw into a court), judge said that no politician promise is binding, and they can lie how much they want. People – voters are to blame, because they are naive enough to belive politicians. And that was actuall judgment. “Our” prime minister even won some money on this – on defending his right to lie to people.
So yeah, talking about democracy. I’m taking my charr as he is.

Now officialy envy You mister! I envy You!!

No one will ever reach 10k achi. points except a very small portion of the player base. Where do you get these numbers lol ? These items need to be available for most of the players …

I’m in a guild made of people who will get there in this month. Come on – it’s not so small portion of people. Some get there sooner, other later but it’s only matter of time. On the other hand – I don’t think that every single reward in game should be forged and directed towards casual players. If one line of achivements&rewards is out of reach for casuals? Well, they still got 99% of content tailored for them.

These are rewards for people who play the game, not people who login once every 2 weeks (or less) for a couple hours.

Even saying that, there are rewards no doubt for people under 1k ap.

My thought exactly – thank You

C’mon guys – I have well over 9k poinkt, going for 10k if I’ll do few missing things (close to that) and You want me have nothing to achive only because you (imaginary you – no one in particular) have 1-3-6k and want everything “NOW!”?
Gimme a break – I want some goals too – make a carrot for me – put higher tier unlocks aroun 25k achi points, or 50k, even 100k. I don’t want to get everything in day one and forget week later, just because some players have demanding attitude. Not my problem – theirs.

We have to remember that Anet takes their casual players into very hard consideration. 10k achievement points is not very likely to be achieved by them even in a year.

Yeah, I know – but frankly speaking, there is not much to look forward to, when You have 8 polished characters. There is no long range achievements to get. Do what? Another legendary weapon? Too much boring grind for something that anyone can buy from BL. Another set of armors from dungeons? I’ll get them anyway, so yeah. There is not tasty enough carrot, and stick exist only in matter of loosing place on ladder that I do not care about.
I know that my hopes are poky at least, but I really wish, that AP update will bring something for more hardcore playerbase. That, or I’m one step closer to looking forward to Wildstar

Shown screen shots show that the new armors are for now limited to headgear, shoulder piece and gloves – it would be awesome to bind that to paths of each dungeon.
Doing CoF p1 unlock the ability to obtain (for gold, karma laures, etc.) elite CoF headgear skin.
Doing CoF p2 unlock the ability to obtain (for gold, karma laures, etc.) elite CoF shoulder skin.
Doing CoF p3 unlock the ability to obtain (for gold, karma laures, etc.) elite CoF gloves skin.

Dungeon Master gives You special emote – “rolling the dice” with big, holographic (or gohstly – will be more awesome) dice rolling close to the player (same like dollies rank emote etc.) that will grant whole party random bonus. Bonus like +1% magic find / +1% gold drop etc. – really small, joke like stuff.
Usable once per character per dungeon/instance. In open world, working only as an emote without bonuses.

Hotjoin: it is time to let go

in PvP

Posted by: Wizzlock.3492

Wizzlock.3492

While I understand OP concern and point of view, I think this idea is like forcing flower to bloom by punching it repeatedly.

Issues
- Glory farming = zerging.
- 8v8 is an unplayable mess of AOE and spamming.

Yeah – I hate that too. But at least – there are some players playing now. It’s not like Anet didn’t see it was coming. Playerbase interested more in clean PvP moved to greener grass already (that’s my opinion). We’re left with what we got. If You take glory farming, zerging, 8vs8 from players who enjoy that, PvP playerbase will shrink even further. So yeah. Good concept, not sure if it’s good idea alltogether.

- No one defends points (key aspect of the conquest gametype).

Not newcomers/casuals fault, that main reason to play conquest doesn’t seem appealing at all. Look what Anet did with PvP daily some time ago – they turned medicore ideas to improve PvP daily into some horrific chores by absurdly bad execution. “New” abandoned daily, was promoting, no, not promoting – it was almost forcing zerg attitude. So they got back to old daily, that is only appreciating zerg attitude. Step back in right direction. How ironically. If You add to the pot those guys who like to do duels etc. You’ve got Your answer.

- No teamplay: general disregard for allies (doesn’t affect personal glory gain).
- Random joining / leaving affects teamspirit and social motivation.

Well… yeah. But I doesn’t see as a problem. Or big problem at least. It’s a hot join – I join there to do my daily fast way if the mood hits me. Or to farm some purple points. Or to kill some time before my guildies will gather for a dungeon. Join/leave anytime I like gives me flexibility, that You want to deny me, for reasons I do not understand.
If I want higher culture of PvP I go for a tournament. Premade that is…

- Lack of educational aids <> initial learning curve of the gametype.

Heh… tell me how to make this education thingy in more tournament environment and I’ll buy You a beer. I help from time to time strangers meet in PvP – the thing is that it doesn’t happen too often, because PvP is hazardous environment in almost every game. That, and the fact that I’m not super pro winning tournaments, so I’m no authority for even newcomers. But when I help people to learn something (mostly new to the game friends from RL) I’ll do it in hot join… because it’s easier. People don’t treat it as seriously as tPvP, they are nicer overall and leave game when they are asked politely, so we can waste as much time without arena tokens as we want. Can’t really see that coming without hot join.

- Varrying skilllevels makes it unenjoyable for both new and veteran players.

Disagree – it’s awesome farmfest. Sometimes I find people on matching skills or better than me, so I can’t even say it’s predictable. And there is something sweet with carrying almost singlehandedly a loosing team to a win. Never saw that in tPvP. There is no autobalancing there, best player on my can’t suddenly change his team to rise from knees other. Doesn’t happen to often, but I was in that positions once or twice and I can tell You it feels better than winning tPvP match with good premade against good premade. Not as rewarding in term of points etc., but feels awesome.

- Autobalancing restricts playing with friends.

For this, You’ve got arena tokens and premade tPvP. So actually You say, You want to deny those who like that kind of russian rullete their shoot, because You don’t like it? … yeah. Right.

- Gap between Hotjoin and Tournaments on multiple fronts.

What is the “gap” You are talking about? That two different types of Conquest doesn’t seem clone like to You? I say GOOD. That was the idea. If the hot join should be more like tPvP, it would be unnecessary, so – as You imply, Anet should let it go. But it’s not, that’s why it’s still necessary however broken it is.

- Map rotation: no one likes Raid of the Capricorn.

For one – I like it. Actually it’s the best map (in my opinion) to work with newcomers on some easy tactic actions with proper coordination.

- …

And I can drink to that!

While I agree that we’ve got looooot of bad things in hot join, I doesn’t see cutting it down as an answer. I can live with semi-broken hot join if Anet will fix bigger problem that is corrupting PvP – the whole concept, borringness and apathy that is known as “Conquest”. And no viable rewards for anyone who bought GW2 to play only PvP (but again, that is my opinion).
Forcing people to play conquest more properly doesn’t change fact that whole mode will get old after 2 weeks of playing. With or without hot join.

As someone who tries to get all the dailies like OP, I would much enjoy a cap on daily achievements. It means I would no longer need to do potentially time-consuming achievements like WvW achievements.

The funny thing is that making a cap will make it easier for more casual players to be competitive in achievements. Yet people are attacking OP and saying he’s just trying to maintain his lead. Under the current system hardcore achievement hunters like OP and myself are making our leads on other players higher by doing more dailies.

Agree on that. But what can I know? I’m in top 200, or top 150 – I don’t really know or care -_-

I’m trying to complete this achievement since the beginning, and I haven’t completed it , yet ( and I’m quite sure I never will..). I’m not a good jumper, and I need time to complete difficult puzzles, such as the WvW’s one.
I came into the map and found a group of smart players that attacked me in the dark part, but when I said I was there for the cache, they stopped and ignored me.
I appreciated this, and hoped to find other guys who wished to challenge people interested in fighting, and not in PVE content…
But when I was almost out, I found a single one, obviously stronger than me.
I tried to ask him, nicely, to let me finish the jp. He didn’t answer and killed me, happily, I guess.

Worst GW experience ever.
I hope this will not happened again.
I enjoy WvW sometimes, but i’d like to do it, when I desire, not for PVE achievements!

Ok a lot of people still seem to have trouble getting this achievement… so for your sakes I’ll try to give you all a super simple explanation of how to attain it

If you want to do it the normal way, its easiest as previously mentioned to split the group up into the 4 corners and 1 in center for the barrage phases. Decide whose going where before hand and you should be able to outrun/dodge all the cannon blasts.

If you get hit or want to do the character swap method, I suggest you stay until all the cannon barrages have completed and your group actually kills Mai, yes kills her! Then you can go as far as to lower Horrik’s HP to almost dead before you switch characters.

You will need to have a group understanding of what you are doing so they don’t kill him before you return, as in running all the way back into the boss fight. While you are running back, your group will only need to evade his little cannon blasts until you enter the arena again, and yes you do need to re-enter the boss fight for the achievement to register. (I’d suggest hitting him a few times just to be safe)

Either method should render your achievement as completed so go get em kiddies!

Yeah, great. But the problem is, that even the exploit method is/was bugged. I did the dungeon 3 times without any (ANY) aoe hit me (during whole dungeon), before I went for exploit mode. I did the trick with dieing 3 or 4 times, and at least 5 times the trick with character swap. I got my achievement when I gave up and helped my friends to get theirs. I’m 100% positive that I wakitten by Horrik cannon during phase 2 and 3. And still got my achi. So yeah – it’s bugged like hell with or without tricks.
But Your advice is really good if someone didn’t tried it before. Will save many lives

I have noticed that ANET has not bothered to reply to this post even though over 300 replies have been made!

I have made it through the puzzle many times now. I REALLY hate the Griefers. I am what many call a Care Bear, but I like PVE and not all this. I see no point and wonder why people enjoy killing other players ‘just because’. I am the type that if my portal would work for the people on other servers, I would gladly port them back up if they fall in the dark room or arena, but alias I cannot.

I would just like one of you Griefers to tell me what is it you get out of it. I mean I will never meet you, not that I would want to after behavior like that, but truly ‘What is the point?’

AND ANET WHAT IS THE POINT OF ALLOWING THIS ANYWAYS, what to you makes it any fun.

I agree with Your post, I agree with Your logic, I am not a Griever myself but… the sharpness of Your blade points wrong direction.
Let’s take it all aside and look at this problem. There is cache in WvW, that players want to reach. A lot of this players ain’t that good with PvP, so they are easy target. What does it mean? Actually few things.
First – obvious. Easy kills. Few more badges, points, WXP.
Second – tactics, strategy. If they gonna be stomped hard and they are persistent at the same time – they gonna be back. Not just “back” – back with greater force. What does it mean? Well – that force will be missing in other parts of WvW. The trolling actually aid server. Grievers are pulling enemy resources from where it’s needed, just because server force wants to help their players achieve something personal – not server wide rewarding. I’ve seen it few times. Fortunatly my server was dominating this week. And at least twice I saw that whole enemy zerg went missing just to deal with it. While they were JPing, my guildies and rest of my server stripped them of their towers and keep. All that just because we had troll-team in JP. I do not approve that… but I understand.

What I do not understand is, how the hell Anet thought it’s an “ok” idea. It wasn’t bad for me: +-10 minutes, died once, killed bunch of enemies. But I can relate, and for those who had not my luck – that was a bad idea.

(…)
No one is forcing you to play pvp, as pvp players are morlikly forced to play pve(but it is diffrent story).
First of all if you like use pve farming to use it vs real players, then its deffenetly not for you and see no point to complain about this. I hated so many MMORPG for this reasone! If players wants to play pvp, WHY SHOULD HE WASTE HIS TIME ON PVE? Personlly I dont want any pve items or items that should i buy for buff in pvp, that will ruin this game for me, but then all farming kids (i assume that they are kids, becaus most adults just dont have so much time to farm all thous things) will love it. The point were you wrote about non-pvp-players isnt making any sense at all, as why should thous players even try pvp if they know they dont like it?!

You made me giggle. In a thread treating about “why PvErs don’t want to PvP” You say “No one is forcing you to play pvp” & “why should thous players even try pvp if they know they dont like it?!”. Of course not, no one is forcing anyone to play at all. The idea was to find out why PvE players don’t see fun in current PvP and is there anything that can be done for them, without spoiling fun for PvPers (not that there is much fun to spoil).
Can’t really address rest of your assumptions because they weren’t meant for me, but I’ve got really strong feeling You misunderstood KarlaGrey.5903. Maybe I’m wrong, but hey – I call it as I see it.
And this comes from guy, who pass on PvP since it’s… well. Just look on PvP and PvE. PvE is getting 2 week content update rotation – PvP was promised to get another game mode some 9-10 months ago. PvE got all those shiny updates so far (SAB, Halloween, 2xKarka, Xmas, Living Story and so on) – PvP got what? 2 maps? Third incoming? Really “impressive”. Especially because those maps actually doesn’t address problems with current PvP. 3 maps for one game mode – conquest, that is not that good to begin with.
The sad fact is, that I find more enjoyable PvP forum, than actual GW2 PvP.
So yeah – any idea of moving stale brew that is PvP right now, is a good idea for me. A way to encourage PvE playerbase to visit PvP? Even better. Maybe then I’ll get back to PvP once again.

Was thinking about this kind of stuff before I put cross on GW2 PvP. My idea was more like – the nodes would be cumulating bonus points, that will be granted to the team that flips it. So – with every few ticks, node staying in one color seems to look more and more tempting to the other team.
But I like Your idea better – more weight on tactics and cooperation.

I realized it doesn’t matter anyway, it’s just a game. It was supposed to be fun, not to get crazy every two weeks with new set of bugs. And now, when they introduced bi-weekly updates I won’t be able to keep up with the game anyway. I already spent 1000 hours in it, time to grow up.

Actually I’m close to this conclusion as well. It supposed to be fun, now it’s chore like thingy. Don’t get me wrong – it’s still nice to play and all. But it forces me to do what I don’t like (or at list – I do not fancy this on that particular moment) and on their terms. If achievements like “personal space” would be bind to permanent content – it would be ok. I will get this in my own pace, when mood hits me. But now? My inner completionist force me to get all that I can, and while bugs prevent me from getting what I deserve…
I allready gave up PvP (for same reason), WvW became dull as hell. Maybe it’s time to find different game. Something harder, less casual, with more freedom.

Mistform, protection, knockdowns, stun and chill aura – what else do you need? It’s almost impossible for a properly built S/D, D/D or even staff ele to lose against a thief.

You need to give me number to your thief friends. I have to see that. Yeah, but really – I have all 8 class maxed (and yeah – I’m from early beta as well), mainly playing Ele and Guardian, complementing it with a little thievery and I need to say kitten to You sir. Cuddly kitten! Can’t imagine that I can win 1vs1 against thief on my Ele (while on staff) in WvW, or lose with some staff Ele, while I’m ripping him out. Gush – today I won 1vs3 (and fourth guy killed me). Guess against who I was fighting? 1 staff ele, 1 s/d ele and ranger on longbow (switched on sword / torch I think, right before down state – didn’t do him any good). The guy who killed me was… thief (TaDaaam)!
Either you meet highly incompetent thieves, or Your GW2 is some kind of different GW2…

Guys guys.. I did really think the patch was verry bad at first too, but it opened up allot of doors. Its just that you cannot play the cleansing fire, LF, MF D/D build anymore. Just swap CF for the arcana shield/signet of air/AoE and you should be fine.

This patch actually made burst eles useful.

Yeah- I’m on the wagon as well. The patch opened so many doors for me. Now I can decide, should I stick with my Guardian, Mesmer or Thief?
No really – I have all classes (Guardian x2) and Ele was my main since day one. After last patch, there is so much love for other classes, so I barley find time to sit on my main character. And right after that I came here to whine. Go figure…

It’s quite hard to place AoE on ground below keep now. It’s like Anet want’s me to go suicidal on my staff ele – because You know. Having light armor and short HP bar, makes me so tanky, I should stand between enemies to put my AoEs on ground.

I need to watch Anet more closly, because as I understood, they didn’t want to touch (much) existing builds and focus on things that were useless anyway. And I had to missunderstood this part, because what I see (apart from quickie staff love) is breaking things that works well, to spoil a bit things that didn’t had much sense before, nor do they have now (GoEP, rally?!). Now instead 1 working skill and 1 usless, I see 2 useless.
Great that Arcane Shield got some love (unneeded) – it will work up a bit for breaking Cleansing Fire and Lightning Flash.

Click targeting issues

Wizzlock.3492

Hope I didn’t post again something that rolled through forums for too long.

For most of my GW2 time I played with elementalist. Staff one on top of that – so right/left clicking to choose enemy or loose target wasn’t an issue for me. It changed right after my Ele dinged to 80 – I made all sort of alts and change my staff build into more suitable D/D. Since then my heart is with every other player, who fight with targeting, not with enemies.

Probably Anet have some ideas how to solve it, but I’ll throw my 2 cents anyway. It would be great mechanic to use “show nametags” of enemies/friends to bound with targeting. Do whatever You do with right/left click targeting to fix it, because it’s shame after 9 months, that this kind of stuff still is in game, but… You allready have ctrl and alt to show enemy and friendly tags (I bound mine to Q and E, because I use the often and it’s hard to do with ctrl/alt with fingers long as mine…). Wouldn’t it be great to press ctrl and being able to click only only enemy target? Same with alt – press alt and no enemy can be targeted while it’s pressed (to drop fast revive from a pet or something similar). Think about it. You’re in WvW, in EB, making a ride on enemy SM. Two zergs collide like lovers in the rain and You can’t target anyone so You throw Your skills blindly, hoping it hit anyone – and that would be enough. What if You could press ctrl and target enemy through wall of Your own people. Because You see enemy, You know he is there – so why not to target him?

And that’s why they should use on world mechanics. Like canons and other stuff. Now they are bland boring – just like final mission with Zaithan. I don’t even want to go into this alley. The dragon encounters shouldn’t be about spamming dmg aoe and healing aoe, but about dozen of small events. Charging canons, protecting them, maybe distract dragon from the real threat – the mechanics are there. Anet just doesn’t balance them. It’s easier to spam cannon shoots at Claw of Jormag, than actually protect golems with bombs. Why? Because it’s easier to survive in packs and You deal more damage. Dragon fights never should be about 5 minutes standing in place and hitting dragon. It’s so immersion breaking, that it hurts. I remember how hyped I was about Tequila Sunrise in beta – protecting laser canon, hold on waves of undead minions… what it is now? Forget undeads, forget canon, just spam dragon, and open chest.
About smaller events or encounters? Check the big nasty karka rollers. Great idea, good implementation. Can they make fights more interesting and harder without OPing HP points or DMG deal? Sure. But they choose not to, because it’s easier.

Where it leaves me, as a “fanboy”? In the middle. Till now, GW2 was great experience. Amazing PvE (in my taste), nice WvW and a bit broken PvP. GW2 had great run and is still running. Playerbase is bigger than most games I tried had after 3 months, so it’s a huge positive. There are clouds in future, but there is also a lot of sunshine and I don’t believe that combined power of Neverwinter&tESO&Camelot can take down whole game in one blow, if Anet will be ready. None the less I do notice the danger. If I can help in any way? Sure – I will if I can. Can I? Well, I worked a bit in show business (at the end of the world), I spend lot of my time on writing fantasy stories (skritt those language barriers XD ), I was betatesting so many games I can’t even remember half of them, since the times that internet connection was luxury in my country (ah the 90ties, and You had to go to internet cafeteria to go with all the testing to even see some change money for it XD – sweet memories). I have so many ideas that can add something to this game… and You know what? I think it’s same with most of You, who were so brave and bored to read up to this point. That’s why we are here. And I don’t think Anet needs any of what I can offer to pull another amazing months of gaming for us, but it’s not why I wrote this text wall above. If any of this would throw different light on what is happening, I’m glad. Don’t fix what is not broken (that is why I still wait for a lot of fixes in PvE XD ) but there is always space for improvement. So improve!

PvP
Erm… yeah. PvP is dying. Well – it is dead, but it doesn’t know it yet. GW2 PvP had amazing chance to be e-sport. Lot of stuff to overcome, but it had it chance. Now, when the momentum is gone, we can say “farewell it was nice when it lasted”. Do PvP have a chance to rise? Sure. But I don’t have my hopes high. Don’t get me wrong – I like it. I like the way of character controls and class balance with no trinity working together. But PvP have some issues – oh boy, how many issues PvP have.
First thing – new map won’t save it. 10 new maps wont. 6 maps already and I think Anet is adding new too fast. Game needs something fresh to have another shoot of greatness. People didn’t came here to play Conquest and Conquest only. They want 1vs1 and 2vs2. Yeah – I know game is not balanced for those game types. But really – shout as loud as You can that You giving them early beta access to those game types, because duels is a big part of PvP community. You’ve ignored it for more than a half of year, and guess what – there is almost no community to save. So add those skritt duels (not that I want that personally – I don’t like PvP much, but it’s hard not to notice where the problem lies) and repeat 100 times per minute, that You do it only because You want to gather data, to make it shiny feature in the future. And pray for it to work, because probably it is already too late. That is one thing, the other (even bigger) is GvG. I know that the name of game – Guild Wars – comes from the GW history (war of guilds from before Prophecies) yadda yadda yadda. But really, come on – people do expect this game to have GvG, and they expect it to have in day one. It supposed to be included from game launch if You ask any unaware player out there. And You know what? Probably it is too late for GvG as well. Most of PvP guilds I know left some time ago. Come on – PvP is begining to look like a ghost town more and more with every single day. The time to act passed already, and as You can tell from things like changes in daily achievement routine – it’s time for desperation.
I won’t call for any game here that can bully GW2 PvP, because PvP in this game is bullied from inside. The word is, that resources for PvP was cut down to minimum, because it’s not winning players attention. Skritt – it won’t win any without a lot of resources.
PvP need boost, great boost and it needs it for yesterday. If not for last month, or moth before that. Or maybe even month before – I’m not sure when it was too late to save GW2 PvP, but I’m afraid it really is too late already.
Do I have idea how to save PvP? Yeah I do. If Anet wants to know, they can always write to me, but I think they hired better people already. Still, my idea is about bringing new players into PvP – which is nice change, from scaring off those who still play (I’m looking on daily achievements changed into chores that we had some time ago – fortunately changed back into uninspiring, but easy to finish simple daily). I can’t and I won’t cover changes for PvP hardcore players… because I’m not one of them and I can’t understand them. Casual players, newcomers from PvE, newbies – they need different thing that hardcore players and my advice is to make 2 PvP teams working side by side. Let one team do things to herd more players into PvP, while second team please PvP veterans, because they need at least cool beer for sticking in game till now.

WvW
The World vs World is some strange kind of endgame for me. Don’t get me wrong – it’s personal. It’s the place I go, when my guild is online and no one have any better idea on how to spend our time. I’m not even sure on what tier my server is – not that low I think, maybe T3 or T4. Most of players sit in PvE, but WvW have a healthy community. There is always something going on, there are always dolyaks to kill, enemy corps to profane etc. But it’s not my thing. I’m the lore guy, spending my time in PvE. So some parts of this will be based on what I’ve heard. And what I’ve heard is, that GW2 WvW is best that there is at the moment… but other games are coming. WvW may be fun, but have some problems with boring maps concepts (or so I heard, can’t really tell), too slow improvement implementation with updates – things that doesn’t concern me… yet. There are 2 big games coming, to challenge GW2 WvW. The Elder Scrolls Online and Camelot Unchained. While I don’t have much hope in tESO (ZeniMax is not the company I will cross my fingers for) I could be wrong. Heck, but I still don’t trust companies making game on popular IP only because the IP alone could sell the game. The Camelot Unchained is different story. The game is literally WvW (or RvR, whatever – I don’t care) game, so 100% horsepower will go into this. To be or not to be of this game will be dependent on “is it better than GW2 WvW?” (keep tESO out of the equation of eternal alchemy for now). And it has to be at least “much better”, because GW2 gives us more than WvW. So City State Entertainment (guys behind Camelot) do understand it well I believe. And while everyone can buy GW2 and try it – I think they know really well all weak points and strong points of Anets game. If both of this games (tESO and Camelot I mean) will be released in unfortunate (for GW2) time, it could suck GW2 WvW dedicated players in such doses, that whole WvW would starve. Even if the GW2 would be the best game at the end – it wouldn’t matter. How to counter that? Only 2 ideas – make WvW a lot more interesting for players (both to lure newcomers and to reward hardcore WvWers) and… release box add on in right time. People will buy it (because why not? They already have GW2, and it was at least “fun”, so let check what new stuff they made for us), try it and if WvW will have shiny chunk of content in this add on, it should suffice. And I really don’t believe that tESO and Camelot will be released in perfectly hurting for GW2 timing, because they will need to clash between themselves at the same time, which will bring both of them less profit. So fingers crossed, if creators of those games don’t have zerg mentality, it will be ok.

More about Living Story? I’m not satisfied – it’s good, but can be great. Anet have these amazing writers and I’m saying this as a person, who did some writing-for-living stuff. There is not enough (not even close) immersion. Not enough fraternization or even exposure with main characters of this stories. I know that Anet wants players to dig into story to find things, but hey – they are making casual gamers friendly product. So make casual friendly content, and leave this hidden underneath relish as a bonus for more hardcore players. Make some movie like scenes, where we (as a players) could really sense this iconic characters. Because now, they are lot of things, but not iconic. Don’t let me even start on Magister Sieran, Trahearne or rest of personal story characters. Lets the commentary for their “complexity” be the fact, that my buddy Lord Faren has amnesia, and don’t know me anymore. Simple idea to solve it? In Living Story? Make those NPC useful even out of those short story arcs. Example? Nicholas from GW1 – make this new guy (or at least I think he is new, I never met him before, or he was soooo memorable I can’t recall him) Canach more open to players. Throw around some evidence about evilness of Consortium, that player can pick up and return to him on map – before he will be useful to players. Before he will mean something in story. Like Whomping Willow in Potter series – it’s great, even if it’s reused concept, because the story takes us inside, by the things we knew before. Give this guy funny and interesting things to say, every time he interact with player – from really neutral “hey I need Your help, I’ll give You some karka shell if You fetch me this thingy I ‘forgot’ from Consortium camp!”, through “whaaa? What do You mean You’ve stolen this thingy for me? It always was ‘mine’ thingy” and “I don’t like those Consortium guys, come on – I’ll show You what they did…” into really conspiracy theory that could mark him as a character having well… character. Personality. Depth. Throwing another half baked guy into game and telling us who he is and how he is (look at Bram or Rox – are they what we heard they are? Because there is not enough of them in action to prove it – dialogues in Molten Facility was step in good direction, but it was final step at the same time) will not make him that person if he won’t prove it. And based my statement on knowledge, of how long this Living Story arch is going to take – there is very small chance he could pull this off. 10 dialogues, 2 events, 3 cut scenes ain’t enough. Especially finished with “puff I’m off and out” act, that was sold to us on every other occasion, by every other character.
Above that? I’m still waiting for all this promised stuff. Housing, “my story” – maybe some of those stuff was crossed out in meantime, but I really hope they wasn’t (I’m thinking about character story development). If I have to wait a little longer? Well, I can do that. PvE have it share of love with every update, so no complaining here.

…and I’m writing in suggestions, because I have no idea where to put it. Well, maybe to trash.

First things first. Sorry for my english – not my first language, but still – I hope it’s not that bad. And sorry for wall of text – it’s one of those posts. Second – I will call to other games I know, so embrace it (I’ll try to keep it at minimum). I wanna write a little bit about dangers I see on the GW2 path. I do not claim, that I am original or I saw it first – probably Anet knows about it all and is getting ready. Or I hope it is. So why am I writing this (and You can skip that part)? Because I think any chunk information can be useful. I love Guild Wars series and I wish it best, so if my perspective is different than Anet and if I saw something they didn’t – why not to share it? Or just try. There is no harm in trying. And above all – I’m not the oracle, I don’t know everything and what I write is based on my opinions (You don’t have to agree) and observations (and that can be misleading), so keep it civil.
I see GW2 game mechanics as a tripod and will address them as such. Said that, I will address both current state from fanboy-gamer eyes and the danger I can see or smell from upcoming future.
PvE
Crown jewel and gem of Guild Wars 2. It’s my thing, it’s what I understand. Flat progression – is something that bought me in GW1 and is still working for me in GW2.
Just short jump towards the “no endgame” phrase, that all of us heard billion times. While I disagree, I still believe that Anet can do better. There are tons of ways of giving players endgame, excluding gear-trademill and constant chase after higher level cap in PvE. I see problem within “not trying” to find other way. Living Story is a great thing, but it’s not for all of us out there and while I’m the one who really enjoys it, I understand why some players don’t. There’s no need for raiding, while You can create new things. My friend gave me example of what have been done for Rift – but hey, I can’t repeat that – I didn’t played more than 3 hours of Rift, so I can’t judge. But with or without this knowledge, I am sure there are other ways to improve endgame as we know it.
Now is time for Living Story and the danger I see with it. There is this little game called Neverwinter Online, that I saw. I can’t say I like it, because between unappealing (to me) graphic style, crappy controls and uninspiring game mechanics, the fun from gaming is lost for me. What I do notice is “forge”. I heard people discussing, “if the forge have a chance to stand against Anets Live Team”. I think it’s the wrong question. The real one is – do Live Team have any chance against thousands of players doing their best to shine in creative environment. What made games like Skyrim, NWN1&2, WC3 really special? Moders. Anets Live Team is big, biggest thing of that kind I ever saw, but it’s nothing compared to all those moders, who will cast their magic “without” any restrictions. It’s hard to forget how DotA started, or what was the beginning of Counter Strike. Licentia Poetica at its finest. Immersion breaking? Well – do not let this slip into canon. But to let players try? You can’t do a skritt without trying. You try, You fail, You improve. You try, You win – heck, You won already! I think there is a great battle before GW2 and Live Team is in disadvantage (outmanned and outpowered). The only hard ground that Anet have to stand on, is the fact, that they are not bound by limitations of creators kit (so much fo “without” any restrictions in “forge” :P). If Live Team have idea that cannot be implemented with current GW2 build? They can add new mechanics with update, just for sake of doing something cool (and I’m not talking about crab tossing cool…). How can this battle be won? I have no idea. I don’t think that copy&paste of “forge” concept could be solution, but hey – idea of every player making they own “stories” in depth of mists is really tempting.

IMO Toss Crab minigame isn't fun!

The game is based on seeing where the crab is. If you’ve just a bit of lag, you can’t see when it falls. Thus making it impossible to play successfully.
I’ve already given up on doing achievements. I’ll never win.

It’s less about picking the crab up and more about playing keep-away when you do get it.

I usually just run up behind the person going to pick it up and jack it the millisecond they stoop.

Yeah, but his/her point stays valid – if You are laggy, You can’t pick crab or steal crab. Without one, You can’t play keep-away (as Yuo called it).
Heh and it is laggy as hell. Come on – my computer is not some super rocket, but I can play almost everywhere on mid settings with nothing more than minor lags. WvW, Claw of Jormag, any bigger event – name it. Crab tossing is just tossing with my PC, because there is no way, that I can have lags like this all the time. Gimme a break – I did Mad Kings Clock tower with eyes closed. And I should be able to win this freaking game at least once per day – that’s why it’s in daily, isn’t it? And not being able to do a kitten thing inside, is frustrating.
I’m glad that it works for some people, but for me, it’s a peak of frustration. God bless Anet, that it’s the only thing in new living story, that is done below any possible understandable level. 3 hours of trying, several disconnections, dozen of bugs, one won game that didn’t get me achievement (hooray for that) and I have enough. Instead of having fun with new content, I’m angry for one stupid poorly designed element, that is needed to get all achievements. Brilliant idea indeed.

I hope Living World has more group content like dungeons

GW1 was completely soloable. GW2 should be as well.

I say a hearty “Nay!” to grouped content. This isn’t 2004. It’s time MMOs moved on.

go play a single player game if you don’t like playing with others

You think in such small terms.

There are people who enjoy seeing other players in the game world but do not enjoy grouping with them. I am one such gamer and there are a great many others like me.

‘MMO’ and ‘Online’ do not automatically mean you are expected to group with others. Go see the first ‘Guild Wars’ for more information.

And again in another thread XD. GW1 was CORPG and yeah – it didn’t force You to group. MMO actually do mean you are expected to finish at least some content with necessity of other player help… and guess what. GW2 is a MMO.
Don’t get me wrong – I love GW1, still play it from time to time, but I don’t expect GW2 to be GW1 with better graphics. It was stated long ago that it will be MMO and I treat it as such. And hey – around 95% (if not 98%) content is purely soloable in GW2. Except dungeons I hardly find anything needing grouping. Not WvW, not even tPvP.
But hey I agree – making last mission depending on 5peeps team dungeon was a stupid idea (and one of worst dungeons in gaming history on top of that).

Repeat after me: ‘Playing with others does not exclusively mean forced-grouping.’

There are lots and lots of ways people together and assist each other in GW2, in the forms of open world events (you know, some of those event alerts are labeled ‘Group’ for a reason). ‘WoW does it’ should never be an excuse for making forced-grouping be the only way to complete a storyline, unless that storyline has been told entirely through forced-grouping instances to begin with (Like the Destiny’s Edge side-story).

Edit: BTW, ‘CORPG’..I’m not familiar with that term. And last I checked, GW1 was a MMORPG as well—Massive world, Multiple players, with the rest being pretty self-evident.
And you’re right, 95%-98% is soloable…which isn’t a problem unless you do something incredibly stupid like making the non-soloable content a complete roadblock to completing the soloable, rather than keeping it properly encapsulated from it.

Well check again – GW1 was always CORPG and in matter of fact – still is. People used to call it MMO, to avoid confusion. If You ask me, with every new campaign, GW1 was going towards classic MMO, but it’s my opinion.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/CORPG
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guild_Wars – “Because it deviated from traditional MMORPG norms in a number of areas, like instancing all the gameplay areas, and that it focused more on player vs. player (PvP) than most online RPGs, it was marketed as competitive online role-playing game.”
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Competitive_online_role-playing_game
The other term for that is cooperative RPG, since Masive world is illusion (it’s not open like MMO used to have, just a number of instances) and multiplayer is caped at 8 (12 for Deep/Urgoz) players.

I agree, that the roadblock (if You think about Arah story mode) – it is bullkitten. And yet – I disagree about Your concept of grouping. The idea standing behind dungeons (Arah as a ending to personal story aside) is to do some stuff with well cooperated team. Heck – if You don’t want to find friends in MMO, take a pug and don’t speak with them. It’s the only thing in entire game, that actually need You to click “invite” button. And don’t give me this “WoW does it” bullkitten – I never said GW2 should have team dungeons because WoW have them. Your words, not mine. I think having team in dungeon is logical conclusion of their design. I can agree with that or not play them. Still – 95% content doesn’t need me to even stand near other players (and again – story Arah aside – agree with that being bad idea). Does F&F should have soloable ending? Yeah, I think so (why not if everything was soloable there). Does Dungs should be soloable? Still didn’t seen anything to convince me to change my mind.

I don't like dungeons that force you to party

I did read up on GW2. Nowhere did it mention that 5 man dungeons would be mandatory to complete the storylines.

And nowhere did it mention that you would be able to solo every single thing in the game either.

No, but you could solo everything in GW1. So…as stated previously….why should GW2 be any different in that regard?

I didn’t buy this game expecting a WoW clone but it seems Anet is turning it into one.

Because GW1 meant to be (and is) CORPG, and GW2 is MMORPG (and suposed to be from beggining). More than that – I’m sure I’ve seen it dozen times in some of the Anet blogging and stuff, that they treat it as normal MMO – party for dungeon, preparation before adventure and NO HEROES & HENCH etc.
And did You ever played WoW to call GW2 WoW clone? In terms of differences between MMOs, GW2 is quite far from WoW. But hey – You’re comparing CORPG to MMORPG, so why not to talk about Baldurs Gate? That was fun game – and no one ever stated that GW2 will not be Baldurs clone… and it isn’t! – how could they?!
Not that I’m defending GW2, because I find a lot of irritating stuff in the game lately, but there are holes in Your logic (each) bigger than my ego. But I agree that nowhere was stated that all dungeons will be 5 and only 5 people team stuff. But that is different story.

Hmm. This is the second thread in a row to use the term ‘CORPG’, and again, no clue what it stands for…nor am I sure why you’re making a distinction, as both are massive, multiplayer games. And as for comparing? I’d think that perpetrating a play mechanic made most identifyible by WoW, and that endless games copy badly only both ‘Because WoW does it’ and their player base complains that otherwise it’s not enough like WoW would be explanation enough. Especially when this construct is placed in a game that has little need for it due to many, many other mechanics designed to encourage playing alongside and together with other players without needing it, and instead of being properly encapsulated as separate gameplay as it’s predecessor did, is used as a big fat roadblock to completion of content that has had no need of it in any way, shape or form for the entire rest of the storyline?

The other note about dungeons:

“Yeah graveyard zerg and some bosses having a few balance issues (or needing more varied skills at various health percentages so they are fun to fight for their large health pools) are absolutely things on our radar. Make sure to note specific locations/bosses when leaving feedback on the forums!
As for the question about PuG’s for explorable dungeons, we’ve said all along that explorable dungeons are intended for highly organized/skilled groups of players. That is absolutely the case”

Funny, I always thought that coRPG meand cooperative. Silly, me. But still, I remember wrong, but got right idea.

Capture points is a horrible daily objective

The problem with hot join atm is that most players find their comfort zone in 8v8 AoE zergfest, which doesn’t prepare them for any tournament play, gives completely distorted view on class balance and key gameplay concepts to the conquest style of maps.

Exactly. 10 node caps and 20 kills almost push people into this direction. Imagine – You’re new. You need 20 kills. Do You go to play 5on5 (or even 1on1) to match Your still non existing skills against “veteran players” (no pun intended) or You go to much more crowded place, to have a chance to catch some kills on the flight? At the moment You don’t think about sharpening own skills, just daily. Looking on how hotjoins work now – it’s just that. You’re either with winning zerg, or You change map. No need to waste precious time. And by loosing people can learn a lot. What to avoid, why multicaping is stupid etc. – You won’t learn it by leaving loosing side.

If standard hot-join maps were only 5v5 and greater tutorial/intro emphasis was put on capturing, holding & neutralising points as well as secondary mechanics, we’d be all in a better place now. Beginners would play the game correctly from the get-go in hot-joins, but not feel so punished for defeat as in tournaments (since a greater chunk of their glory would come from points system than victory itself). If they wanted it like that they could either stay to gain more confidence, or jump to tPvP next.

Bravo. My thoughts exactly. I need to learn English better, because I can’t write so clearly. XD

At the same time, if solo was split from premade, already thin population would be even more fragmented, leading to domination of premades by few select teams making average premades quit.

True, didn’t think about that much. Still – it’s a risk. You split solo and premade and You split population. You leave it like it is now – You’re melting population (weakest players scared of by overwhelming differences). Can’t say which one is better – they never should have allow this situation to happen. They had many indications of what is going on, to see it. Heck – even players saw it along the way, and by observation, because we don’t have and means of measuring condition of PvP playerbase.

Different goals that would make tPvP better for everyone involved, often contradict themselves in actual execution. We won’t get more people without necessary changes. At the same time necessary changes require even greater core population of tPvP players to cancel out their side effects. If changes are made without necessary population, population will collapse instead of flourishing, starting with rampant elitism and subsequent death of premade queue, to further marginalisation of tournaments as a game mode.

Which is exactly what I see now. New daily is a step into elitism. It doesn’t change PvPers life, doesn’t improve it in any way. No new mechanics, no new rewards, no shinies to chase, no dramatic changes. So why to change daily? To grow population of course! But how does the daily that demands more time from players, without offering them anything new (or valuable) is spoused to to that? It’s building the wall between those who don’t care (because of elitism) and those who won’t care anymore. Higher the fence, harder is to make the jump. Monthly achievement is so lowered, that is actually not funny anymore – and that should be the carrot to chase, isn’t it? Instead making something fun with monthly, daily is being changed into chores. Great tactic. I want to meet this Napoleon who stands behind it someday, I want an autograph XD
