And that would be logical.
Instead of that, they have to create Villainy “Master of convenience” Sue to tie all the loose ends together. And fail miserably on top of that.

I have a question that could turn this entire thing upside-down…did they ever mention or explain who was the first born among the firstborn Sylvari? If it’s Scarlet, she could very well be the physical embodiment of the Pale Tree’s curiosity and learning, taken root (pun intended). Which could explain more than a few of her screwy actions and how she got this far.

Don’t give Anet such ideas. The only reason why Scarlet isn’t firstborn, is fact, that the writer didn’t come up with it yet. And I don’t want to waste 1 of 3 unrevealed firstborns on such pathetic character.

That fact that so many people love as well as hate Scarlet to me indicates they’re doing a great job with this “bad guy”. Love or hate, she’s making people care about her presence returning.

It’s the bad guys you never remember or don’t care at all if they return that suck. If Scarlet is getting under your skin for good or ill then they’re doing it right.

People are not hating her because she’s a well written character, doing unspeakable deeds or because of her in-game actions. They hate her because ANet have seen fit to make every part of the living story have the same plot: “Scarlet was behind it.” I could go behind a mastermind pulling the strings of various factions who were unaware they are being manipulated, but that is a level of subtlety of writing and plot development we aren’t getting with GW2. Which is a shame, since GW1 was much better on this regard (although I’m not saying GW1 plots were grand, RPG-type stories either. Just a lot better than GW2.)

Scarlet is cartoony, over-the-top, goofy and yet manages to be boring as well. For me her whole representation represents what I hate about the whole Living story: stale, uninteresting repetitiveness.

In other words… Scarlet really got under your skin.

Good job ANet.

Yep. Great job. That’s why I sit on forums and read stuff instead of playing GW2. Taking into consideration fact, that Anet put lot of their lore stuff on blog, not in game, I think I’m on the right direction. Out of the Tyria

Agreed.
But to be devils advocate – if You take JPs from WvW, players from servers like UW won’t be able to get their kills for daily XD. I think thats the only source of stomps for them.

Oh wait, the devs love playing thief in wvw…

Is it confirmed? Don’t get me wrong – I believe it to be true myself. That’s the only explanation for thieves unique situation in WvW/PvP, but hey! I like to troll on thief from time to time too, so no bad blood.

Wheres has the storyline gone? - A rant

in Living World

Posted by: Wizzlock.3492

Wizzlock.3492

Kind of a side rant, but I don’t understand why players are so vehement about an expansion and not wanting to work with the LW concept. Devs have repeatedly said nothing is set in stone. I’d say the Living World should be tinkered with until it’s certain that an expansion is a better option. Who says the LW will stay on it’s present course forever and ever? I’d say a big change for the direction of the Living World is coming. Developers are trying to improve communication with players, and many (at least many on these forums) have clearly stated they don’t like the short, grindy, temporary nature of the releases.

If people really want to pay for an expansion, fine, that’s their opinion. All I’m saying is I don’t believe the Living World idea is out of steam by a long shot and is still worth experimenting with. If I can get the same content as an expansion for free, I’m willing to try different concepts for the LW, even if those methods and ideas aren’t so good at first and need tweaking.

I wanned to disagree, but I have to agree on that.
But on the other side – LS still need to prove it’s worthy. Because now it’s dumbing down main game update after update. Can Living World work in GW2? Sure. But I don’t believe it will. Not with this writers and not under this course.
Am I willing to give LS a chance? I don’t have a choice. But basing on my experience so far – if I have a choice between expansion and no LS against more LS and no expansion… I take box expansion any day, hands down.
It’s probably not so much about not believing that LS can be good. People tend to choose big change over hard work to improve broken stuff. And LS is broken, many believe it’s beyond repair.

I would be fine if they decided to just modify the end chest to 1-3 bags for the end chest. That seems reasonable given the time frame between attempts. It was previously 3-5 bags, which when you add up another 4 potential bags you can easily get every other run, it adds up.

But even if they opted to just put in a single Grumble Cake, that would be better than nothing.

Maybe, maybe not. You can actually squeeze more bags from maze in same time if You switch your characters wisely (to mess with antifarm mechanics). Not to mention bonus loot from maze. At this point there is actually no reason what so ever to do clocktower if it’s not in daily…

Yeah, great.
Let me disagree. I have 9 lvl 80 characters, all of them full exotics, most of them with ascended crap, legendary…. etc.
And Queensdale train is a nice distraction. Fulfilling empty spaces of my time. If Anet nerfs it, it will become irrelevant and well… dead.
Why do You want to lvl up you toon on train? Do it on hearts, on personal story – it’s much faster, more rewarding. But believe me. After 5th character it will be sooooo boring, that running train with people, cracking jokes and simply farming, looks really tempting.
No matter – I rarely see same people for more than 2-3 rounds of choo-choo. I usually join train for 2-4 rounds myself… always when I wait for my guildies to gather. You know – I can sit for almost hour in LA waiting for them to decide what to do, I can plunge myself in PvP (but the stench is hard to wash) or run with the train. Oh yeah, there is always WvW, but I prefer to run there with my own squad, than with anonymous zerg. But that’s just me.

Wizzlock.3492

Could we be a bit realistic here. Last years was a once-in-a-lifetime item based on the first return of Mad King Thorn to Tyria in over 300 years. The book was found as pieces given to ghosts as a way of understanding the story to Thorn’s fall and a possible clue to defeating his attempt to breach the barrier between realms.

Will the book return? No. It will not. It makes no sense at all for the book to return.

However, in light of all that’s said above, it’s still possible for a new edition in a series: the tale of Bloody Prince Edrick. That maybe a book that we get a chance to create through finding new info about him. Possible, though still may not happen at all.

Cool idea. But basing my guess on whatever Anet is doing lately, I think Bloody Prince Edrick lore would fit on a small scroll or in some fair size envelope. Jokes aside – that would be cool. To have envelope or scroll backpiece skin ^^

Right, 10k achievement points makes someone a “great player”.

Funny how I run dungeons with a group who have anything from 6 to 12k points, I’m sitting there on 3.6k and yet I can play just fine, in fact I probably faceplant the least.

You see, it’s not a simple matter. I have around 11k or maybe even 12k points now (not sure – don’t care much about it). I’ve seen a lot, looot better players than me on fractals, players who had 5k points, maybe 4k points. But they specialize in those fractals. Same with dungeons – I’m not so fast and efficient in CoF like some farmers, but nothing in game seems unbeatable to me. Even more – till Liandri, nothing was above my reach, and I have no idea how would I present myself against Liandri, because I didn’t have enough time to even do daily last two weeks.
So if someone have 10k+ it doesn’t mean he’s/she’s some unbelievably good player. It only means he/she had enough time and was regular enough with dailies&monthlies to beat it. That and probably is above average to beat through every type of content.
I know amazing WvW players, who have around 8k points and I need lead them through dungeons like bunch of idiots. Or well – I was leading them. They quit game lately, because another LS sucked whole guild from WvW into PvE zergfest.
So well, the burning is coming through mysterious ways sometimes.

Being rewarded for investing time is neither casual nor hardcore, it’s just tryharding.

Having no life is not equivalent to skillful play.

Implying that putting in time / hard work shouldn’t be rewarded?

But to be clear I believe that skillful play should cut down on the grind, for example killing a single champ than having to kill 50 random monsters.

But hard work is all some have – saying that only those who are skillful should get certain rewards is something akin to claiming that only those who have time should get the rewards. Both parties deserve the chance to get the rewards in tier own playstyle. Then there is casual play which is rewarded with random loot drops ect.

Agree. But now we have rewards only for hardworking (or rather hardfarming) players with really big chunks of free time to spend. Kudos for them, I wish I were in their shoes. But I’m not.
Anet stated some time ago, that not every single LS arch will be for everyone. Let’s see how it went (Halloween and xmas aside), from my perspective (no one has to agree):
Lost Shore – a lil bit out of no where story, with hazy implementation. If we even can count it itno LS
Flame & Frost – all archs. A lil bit for farmers, something for those who like dungeons and slow pacing stories.
The secret of Southsun – farmfest
Last stand at Southsun – farmfest
SAB – jumping puzzle + farmfest for bubbles
Dragon Bash – farmfest + miniPvP game
Skypirates of Tyria – farmfest + dungeon
Bazaar of the Four Winds – farmfest + minigames
Cutthroat Politics – farmfest + 2 x minigames + a lot of political gireving for fractals with another layer of farmfest
Queen’s Jubilee – farmfest like never before
Clockwork Chaos – farmfest taken to another level

I agree, I also belive that best option is to design content, that could be beaten in several ways. You can do it by skillfull gamplay, by time consuming hardwork or something in the middle. Easy long way, normal way and extremely short and hard way.
But as it comes, we have only the farm way, You need to grind, or You stay behind. It’s like I’m playing another "f"2p Korean MMO. In last 2 weeks economy inflated so hard, prices on TP skyrocket to the celestial plane, that it leaves casual players in really bad situation. And we’re talking about 100% casual friendly game, aren’t we?

You are completely right, but arenanet simply doesn’t care. They’re only looking for better ways to create revenue.

All in all- this isn’t the same company that gave us GW1. This is a company that has realized that simple, repetitive tasks are both cost effective to produce, and keep people chugging at the slot machine longer. In all fairness, they are a company, and that’s the logical path to take.

Just out of curiosity: when playing GW1, did you by any chance complete the Legendary Cartographer or Legendary Vanquisher title tracks?

You pick those?

Lucky
Unlucky
Treasure Hunter
Wisdom
Friend of the Kurzicks/Luxons
Zaishen Supporter
Gamer

Please, do go on about how the Vanquisher and Cartograhpers are repetitive and boring. The above listing is much worse, especially “Gamer” from what I experienced. (I at least finished Cartography and Vanquishing.)

Agree. But again – it was somewhat of endgame content to achive, not a 2week rotation gimmick to catch and finish before it’s gone.
Except for Gamer and Wisdom I think I had them all, but I can be wrong. Most of them acquired quite painlessly through the years.

Living Story: I think it's time to reevaluate

in Living World

Posted by: Wizzlock.3492

Wizzlock.3492

I can only say for myself.
In the begining I was really protecting LS, asking my friends to give Anet some time. They will settle things eventually. But as OP said – it’s time to face some facts. What I got from LS so far?
Some shinnies – granted
2 week chore list – yup
Leaving friends – oh, yeah, 2 aside, my whole guild vanished
Grindfest – some like it, some don’t. It gets me bored (note that farming and grinding are fluent definitions and no one has to agree on what they mean to me… and LS for me is in some 80-90% made out of pointless farm)
Stories – yep. 5 minutes of poorly written not living to my lowest expectation, but yeah, we’ve got some stories. And those characters. Kiel is my favorite – she’s like a cartoon from a low budget production, that supposed to keep kids occupied in waiting line to the dentist office.

So yeah. I like the concept – I really do. But I can force myself to like execution. Main problem for me is fact, that LS is “the THING”. There is nothing else to GW2 now, than LS. Because it’s temporary. It sucked playerbase from other, higher quality things in game. So yeah. That’s it.
Some time ago, one guy on this forum, throw me a tart comment saying “maybe this game is not for you, so do yourself a favor and stop playing”. While I believe in constructive criticism (while I’m still surly in mine XD) not elitism, I thought – “hey! Maybe he’s right?!”. I took a week pause from GW2. Consider it a big step, because I’m a guy with inner completionist deamon inside, who has every daily, monthly PvE and PvP alike. And almost every achievement in LS, because after beating “trials” (cutthroat politics), I was one of those “lucky” guys who had bug and didn’t get achiv for it. So yeah – I heard Anet fixed it later, but then I was on delegation and my net connection didn’t allow me to do anything more than daily (and it was with lot of pain…). So now, after a week, my job send me to some faaar corner of the universe and I thought “hey – it’s a sign”. So I took second week of pit-stop. And yesterday, when I finally come back and saw all this clockwork thingies and organized, bored to death zergtrain, another chore list full of nonachiving achivements… all I could think and say was “nah”. And I turned off the game. I still have around 12 hours before new update hit, to catch whatever I can from this one, but why? Guy who send me home was right. It’s not a game for me anymore. I wanned Guild Wars that was sequel to a GW1. I wanned game that was painted before my eyes in manifesto. That’s why I bought GW2, that’s why I supported Anet. That’s what I didn’t get.

The invasions are supposed to pull players away from other events and make other maps ghost towns. If they didn’t, then what would be the point of the invasions.

Which in effect makes it hard for people who need a skill point or want to buy karma armor that is located in a temple. Whats the point of content if it makes all other content irrelevant? You could say that after the chapter is over, people will go back to populating the other maps and playing the other events, but that is not so, because by then they will have another massive event that drawls everyone to one place. New content should not come at the expense of old content.[/quote]

That brought one thought into my mind. Anet was bragging really loud about new vision of endgame (which is for me, something like semi-broken endgame from GW1, but who cares). That scaling makes all content an endgame content and in conclusion it will lead to maintaining healthy population in all zones (because playing everywhere is somewhat similar rewarding). Plan was good, but it fall short – happens. So what Anet did? Tried for short time to re-balance system to make it work (Orr wakitten from one side and other several times, mid-zones stayed dead for whole shabang, and starting zones were vacuum cleaned and player-sprayed over and over again), and then loose it all and pushed (not so gently) players into zergs, to populate flavor of the week map. Well – with last update it was flavor of hour map (still better than hanging in southsun cove for whole month). This system definatly has it perks… if You have low population in Your game, and You want to maintain illusion of inhabitation.
And that… that just leaves me with bitter taste in my mouth.

Havent seen a new shield from Champ drops. There is NO new pistol from champ drops either (lol, this is going well…) and the 2 rifles are as followed. 1) Its basicly my Flamethrower, I ALREADY HAVE THIS SKIN AS A FLAMETHROWER. 2) looks cool, but no doubt it fires bullets despite it obviously being a laser rifle of sorts. That annoys me to no end.

You got lucky if you’re a Warrior or a Guardian. Loads of awesome skins for those 2 professions. Fantastic looking Greatswords, with great effects. Cool looking Swords (Rapier/Felblade) with cool effects, fantastic Hammer skins with cool particle effects.

Its getting kinda annoying at this stage. Its always the same weapons/professions that get cool new skins, and the same professions that dont get kitten (Engineer)

I was fan of this game for sooooo long. I still love it, and it hurts, hurts so bad when I see what is happening.
Thing that I think would be impossible to imagine for me half year ago… I fear updates, I fear new content. Instead of feeling excitement while waiting for new content (that will steal my time), I feel afraid of upcoming chore list that is called “Living Story”. Good joke, but joke is on me.

The only upside of this content I found so far is well… there is no much of Kiel involvement. I don’t know why, but I find even random NPC seraph personality richer, than Ellens, so yeah. Having her stuck in “land of selfishness” (the humble, modest, unpretentious oh-my hologram of herself in LA) is the only positive of her wining election and not participating in new LS… But I’m really schocked that Anet didn’t put some glowing effect on her and some awesome music in background. I would prefer “ode to joy” sung by tortured quaggans, hylek and charr chorus. That will give small tone of suffering to whole sweet-sweet-sweet Kiel winning deal.

It’s not real election – I don’t need to vote for one who will promiss best things to my character. I can vote for guy who can provide more fun to me – player.
And I find all stuff (exept BLKvsTP) from Evon toping the Ellen. I don’t like her, I find her poorly written. Not character that can keep my attention.
If victory means that winner will be placed in office and removed from living story – that would be only reason to vote for Kiel. We would not loose a thing with Evon, he’s not usefull anyway.

And agree about RNG with Shiren . If Anet want’s to know what players thinks about RNG, they have good sources – forum aaaaand key/gem sales. This election wouldn’t give ’em a thing, due the fact, that people are voting for other reasons.

The Mouth of Torment is the entrance to the Realm of Torment, as seen by the Gates of Torment (hohoho, so much Torment!) None of that has anything to do with the Crystal Sea becoming the Crystal Desert other than the Mouth of Torment is where the final blow was struck which caused the change (by sheer force, not by dimension ripping).

If you claim that the Realm of Torment is a fabric rip, then so are the Battle of the Mists, the Heart of the Mists, the Mists, and Asura Gates.

No – I say that act of banition of god from one realm to another was riping the fabric, same as Thaumanova blowing up. Most things You call when You are talking about Thaumanova is Your speculation, same like mine speculations about Abbadon.
Let’s look at this – I see Thaumanova now, as a closed case. World fabric was torn, there was a blow up and that’s it. The result is rapid random teleportation of mobs and few other inconvinience. I don’t see it as state where worlds fabric is tearing further apart. There is no indication for that. It’s like a wound and scar. The scare is proof that wound existed, but scar is not a wound. It’s just a mark.
And if really the worlds fabric is tearing further apart – I want to see it as Live Story update, not closed in one simple fractal. Because, things made up by Onshidesigns aside – there is no indication that fractal can “bleed” to open world… and it’s really unliekly to have only one fractal to do that. None of past fractals did it and there is no suggestion they ever could. If one of new fractals could do it, don’t You think it would be major feature to adertise it with? Heck – if it wasn’t sounding like extreme bullkitten, I would vote for Thaumanova aswell. I would like it to be truth, but as long as it’s only speculation, that is highly unlikly for maaaany many reasons to become true…
Same goes with Abbadon – I belive he deserves full lenght update, with new monsters, map, permanent dungeon (story path and at leat 3 explo) etc.
But it’s unlikly we ever get this thing. So yeah.

Abaddon had a Chaos Rift in the past.
Reactor currently has one that is connected to Realm of Torment in the Mists.

What would happen when the “Reactor Chaos Rift” is opened in the Mist? Could it create a portal from the past rift to the present one for Gods to enter?

For the same thing to happen in Abaddon. Anet would have to reopen the Chaos Rift in the present.

Well – no one said nowhere that Ruptured Heart was ever closed. I agree it’s most likely, but can’t find anything about it.

Because that isn’t tearing the fabric of the world. That’s having a gigantic battle that impacted the world. No fabrics were torn.

Realm of Torment not evaporating of crystal see. Still it can be connected, butit two different things.
Take into account I can be mistaken (while we have no proof, it’s just a speculation – same as Yours saying, that steam monsters in shiverpeaks are result of Thaumanova blast – it’s logical, but hard to verify without more lore). On first fall Abbadon was cast down into Realm of Torment if I’m not mistaken, and it’s not placed in Tyria. More of that – to cross between worlds You have to use Chaos Rifts etc.
So if I didn’t messed anything – battle between gods was played in two realms, they literally tore their way from one to another, to banish one of the six.

The Realm of Torment is already in the Mists.

Where do You come up with this things?

But chaos energy is NOT in the Mists. So reactor explosion would have affects in the Mists overall.

No, really. Seriously – I know You want Reactor to win, I get it. But spread missinformation in every thread doesn’t make Your fractal chances to win better. It only proves You have no idea about game You’re playing or You like to lie.
I see You in almost every thread saying silly bullkitten to show awesomeness of Reactor. Find some interesting REAL lore and quirks to pull people on Your side. Don’t lie.
And hey – by definition everything is in Mists. Asuran technology or not – if it’s created somewhere, it can be part of Mists. Skyhammer to prove that.

An anet employee hinted that mixing chaos magic with the mists would be interesting, but they never hinted that this would cause anything outside the mists to happen. It’s all speculation.

I know – that’s what makes funny talking to Onshidesigns. “Interesting” doesn’t mean it will change anything out of the fractal. And whatever is interesting to one person doesn’t have to be it for the rest of population. Come on – I like Asuras. I like thaumanova concept, but I feel surfeit of Asuran/Inquest stuff. They are predominant in almost every update. It’s like whole spiecies have one taste, one designer (2-3 types of golem look that suits all Asuras? Imiss M.O.X.), and one way to deal with problems. I wonder when they come up with holographic kablowie – that Asura will be voted high Councelor Palpat… erm. Yeah.

I would say answering to You is like fighiting villian in cartoon for small kids. Funny, unchelanging and You gave tools to best You from the very begining ;P

The one that could turn space/time inside out and possibly affect other aspects of the game.

Read some lore. Abbadon fall tore worlds fabric as well.

The one that doesn’t have a few people running around and spewing all sorts of speculation based on one enigmatic post by an Anet employee.

Can I buy You a beer?

Why Kiel if we already have Magnus?

We don’t know for sure that she’ll do or agree with everything Magnus says/does/commands.

She has the neccesary rank (captain) for the council because of her lionguard membership and Magnus ascending her as reward for her recent success (at least success in making others help her). Magnus is her direct superior on the lionguard and the one that proposed her to the council and convinced her to go for it. If she wins she will basically be his second vote with a human face. I like Magnus, but if we’re chosing council members I would prefer someone that brings unique perspectives rather than giving a second vote to one of the existing members of the council.

All thats true, but we don’t know that she’ll do that. She may totally ignore his request/orders and vote/do whatever her own way, if she feels thats right.

If You are suggest that Inquest could brainwash her… that’s actually good idea!
+1 for that
Great oportunity to achive 2 things – make some good story telling and change boring and weak NPC nature into something more interesting ^^. Good thinking!

The hard part is to figure out were in the time line these living events take place. Is it before or after we get to Orr? :/

I can be wrong, but I always thought living story is the follow up to personal story and take place after Zaithans fall. It would make more sense to Bash the Dragons, when You know from expirience that they can be defeated, instead taunt some enormous beeing that can potentialy one-smash whole city You are trying to protect. But still – I can be wrong. Ellen doesn’t seem smart enough to me, to make so far-sighted plans to actually take into consideration both planing the event and potential outcry of it.

The council doesn’t need more “perspective”, it needs people that show they’re doing whats best for LA. Kind of like kiel has done on repeated occasions.

Yeah – like we need more uninspiring people, who take credit for our work because they are entitled to it by standing still. Next great NPC can always stay by the door of dungeon to prove theyr support to players and earn some street credit – we see them not rolling, we’re hating.
But I get Your point – what’s best for LA is close enough to Ellen not interfere with big kids doing her job for her. And Ellen following blindly orders of one guy, who want’s to have 2 votes in city council is exacly what players need to learn all about bias. How educational. Good side or bad, righteous or evil – biased character is biased anyway. I do understand Magnus inclination to power, but Ellen stupidity? Above me. Jump on train, don’t ask why Inquest is leading it! Opportunity i sopportunity!

The last thing it needs is some token Tengu/Quaggan on board

Yeah, sure – thats what In-game description calls LA “the city has become a common ground for all the races of Tyria”. So common that if You are not in Magnus pocket, or You don’t belong in Lionsguard, You are unwelcome dude! Especially if You are Tengu

…I’ve not been following the living story very closely, so correct me if I’m wrong, but has Evon been in our way throughout them? If not, couldn’t this be viewed as an opportunity to dock Ellen, so she’s not accompanying us and as some here like to say, stealing our glory?

Just a thought. I have no idea whether that may be the case, and probably won’t be too heavily involved in any of this as it heats up, so it doesn’t concern me that much.

Actually if that would be truth, I would find first good reason to vote for her

The Mists have the past and the future in them. Fractals and what’s in them are part of the Mists.

True.

The Mists MUST be tied to the open world in some way. For fractal to even exist. So if something goes wrong in the Mists. It will have a chance of bleeding into the rest of the game world.

Not true. Take Battle of Khylo or any other PvP map for example. They are in Mists, they are representation of what happened or could have happened. Fractals are like PvP maps – iconic moments and places frozen in time. Mists just allow us to replay those moments, but we can not change outcome. Thought… the idea of something happened because we were there is fun – Thaumanova reactor blew up, because we moved in time and messed with Inquest would be a nice twist to a story. But uptill now, no fractal have ever worked this way, so I don’t know if that “12 monkeys” thinking could be canon thing.

Anet has had enemies come out of the Mist before into the open world. Remember the Halloween doors.

Not true again. Mad King Thorn reside in his own part of Underworld. Halloween doors were gates to UW not Mists. Agree that Mists influence Tyria, but not that way You think. Thaumanova reactor may be or may be not a link through Mists, but rapid random teleportation can be explained other way.

I actually would be really suprised if this new fractal (Thaumanova or Abbadon – whatever) would influence outside world in any manner.

It’s more than a fractal. Fractals have lore tied to them from the mists. A developer comment and npc dialogue in game. Blatantly says that Thaumanova explosion messed up space time.

Yeah, but how does it differ from Abbadon, or things we have now in FotM.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a matter of taste. I prefere Abbadon over Inquest&destroyers (possible, logical explanations given ingame to a Thaumanova) anyday, but I still think that Abbadon deserve something bigger and greater than mere fractal. On that point I agree – Thaumanova suits better to a FotM. Abbadon should have whole lore driven campagne with epic dungeon. But it won’t happen.

Back on tracks.
“It’s more than a fractal” – how? There is nothing more in it, than it was in other fractals, or could/would be in Abbadon fractal. All are lore related, moments frozen in time and space, located in mists.
“Fractals have lore tied to them from the mists” – and? Dungeons have lore tied to them, cities and common places are lorebound (Beetletun anyone? Shrines in Orr, Arah?), heck – we have lore packed items (ascended gear description). That’s the choice people are fighting over. New lore about Thaumanova (because, saying it was Inquest/destroyers doesn’t do it justice) or Abbadon fall (and despite few lines of txt in wiki – we really don’t know much… we even have only concept arts of Abbadon from before his transformation in DoA, so yeah – so much for lore we have). Can’t really see how one of this is different and by that, “better”.
“Blatantly says that Thaumanova explosion messed up space time” – interesting, but still… in personal story, asura mess with time and space. Nothing new or original. Don’t even let me start about GW1 1th april joke – that was messing.
6 gods reshaped world on their will and the battle between them, vastly changed some parts of it (again – messed big parts of space, and talking about space – Factions and missions about Celestials anyone?). Maybe there won’t be randomly spawned mobs from all around Tyria, but I can’t say this feature buys my heart

So once again – why do You think that Thaumanova is different (and better) from Abbadon & existing fractals?
I do belive it’s a matter of taste. I prefer human gods over inquest, not that they are better in any way.

Thaumanova has more potential to permanently affect the game world. It affects
areas outside the fractal.

It’s fractal – it won’t affect world either way. It’s not new living story update, lore oriented with properly spiced fractal on top – it’s “just” the fractal. And if it will be presented with whole update lore-tied to choosen fractal, oh belive me. Much more space was affected by Abbadon than by thaumanova kablowie, and can be seen even after millenias that divide his fall and present day.

Abbadon just lets players see something that is in the past. How would this change the game as a whole?

Same way that Thaumanova fractal will do – by adding a fractal. Nowhere were stated that anything related to our choice will go out of fractal, so what kind of change You are looking for? And if Anet will make something to tie new fractal to current living story events, I really doubt it will happen only if we choose Thaumanova. This simply lacks logic.

People who love dungeons may pick Abbadon. While people who do more PvE may pick Thaumanova.

I don’t understand distinction between PvE and dungeons – aren’t dungs the endgame, the ultimate layer of PvE (especially when we count fractals into set of dungeons)? I would say that dungeons are most lore packed places in whole game.

Yes. I read all of both posts. But it is not worth my time to refute each point one at a time. I have better things to do than try to discuss with someone who does not seem to have actually read the dialogues and understand that more goes on than we have directly seen in cutscenes.

Perfect answer. Thank You for Your time then. However ironicly it sounds.

And please – for the future. Don’t try to tell someone what he saw, read – clearly or not. You may be heavily mistaken. Sounding arrogant, doesn’t make Your points more valid ^^

I’m wondering why I even bother bringing in logic if it will just get ignored.

*sigh*

Oh. Right. Because people are dead set on single-player RPG storytelling in an MMO. And they want everything to be because of them.

lol
and now I’m wondering why I even bother with answering. No point when everything is answered with mithical magical power of logic that overwrite every argument.

Oh. Right. Because some people are dead set on legendary impassable MMO boundries that can not be crossed to not casue travel in time paradox. And they want everything to be trivial, because You know. 5th person with simillar background, character and narration is something to be expected from devs who have in their ranks some really amazing storytellers.

…did You even read what I wrote, or You gave up after first counterargument?
