I think you are wrong here because it’s most likely that the Dream is created by Mordremoth.

If the Dream was made by Mordremoth, it wouldn’t be serving as protection against Mordremoth:

Scott and Bobby recommend a playthrough of the story as a sylvari to experience the full psychological horror of Mordremoth’s power. The Elder Dragon can implant thoughts in its creations—thoughts they may even believe to be their own—and only a combination of immense willpower and the protection of the Pale Tree can prevent Mordremoth from taking control. Sylvari receive calls to action in the form of the Wyld Hunt—or the Dark Hunt, for Nightmare Courtiers—and these compulsions act as an access point for Mordremoth’s influence.

From: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/points-of-interest-episode-18-summary/

The Wyld Hunt and Dark Hunt are given by the Dream and Nightmare respectively; and Mordremoth uses this to bypass the direction. The Pale Tree is protecting the sylvari; Ogden during Hidden Arcana implies it deals with the Dream, and the Pale Tree indirectly makes mention specifically of the Dream’s stability after The World Summit; furthermore, the first sylvari (plural) to fall to Mordremoth did not have the protection of the Dream (Soundless or Soundless-like in the case of Scarlet).

We know also that Elder Dragons in general know what their minions know (got mentioned multiple times during Personal Story)

So it stands to reason that all Elder Dragons have so sort of hive mind. The Dream would then be very likely the Mordremoth counterpart.
So the ability to look into the future yould very well come from Mordremoth.

The Dream is NOT a hive mind. This was stressed out early on, and stated so in Ghosts of Ascalon. It is a collection of memories, yes, but not a hive mind. The two are very different.

Well, the Dream in my explanation is a sealed off area, just like the Darknet can’t be accessed directly through the internet. The darknet however uses infrastructure that was initially built to support the internet.
It could be the very same thing with the Dream, the Dream is a sealed off area within the “hive mind” and the Pale Tree is guarding said area.

The Dream also turns into a hive mind once a Sylvari has fallen for Mordremoth.
The reason why the Dream “usually” doesn’t act as hive mind is because the Sylvari are modeled after humans and so have a free mind, and because the Pale Tree is blocking the influence of Mordremoth.

At last, let’s not forget that the Nightmare Court has many traits a dragon corruption also has, like not being able to escape the Nightmare once you’ve fallen for it.
So it’s plausible that the Nightmare resembles Mordremoth’s presence and the primal destiny for the Sylvari of being destructive minions of Mordremoth.

how to get rid of stacking

step 1: make a group specifying no stacking
step 2: complete dungeon without stacking

mission successful

did you happen to notice another post in here where he tried that and couldn’t get a group to join him?

It worked when I did it.

Glad to see all the responses in this thread from people who are completely clueless about the game’s mechanics or game design in general.

That video didn’t prove a thing. It just shows that you can form a group. It didn’t show any comparison with a “meta” group.

Why compare? Tell me, I’m curious. Do you want to be as effective as a meta group?

Comparisons offer an analysis. Efficiency should be strived for, so you don’t waste your time, or other people’s time, because people value their time. Not only that, but it shows competence in your performance, because you took the time to learn your traits, builds, and acquired specific gear, runes, sigils, etc.

When content becomes trivialized (or too complicated), due to “stacking”, or any form of “meta”, then it needs to offer alternatives to balance variety and challenge.

Just look at sports for an analogy. Anyone can go to the local basketball court and join a PUG, but it will never be as professional as a varsity team, or the NBA. Some of these people eventually move on to a more professional setting, because they want to be more efficient in their skills, while others are content to never hone their skills, which is perfectly fine.

The problem is, players are unwilling to form less efficient groups, because they see that the stacking “zerker meta” is the preferred way to play. Can you blame them? They value their time. This persuades people to stack (exceptions for certain fights), thus limiting their choices in builds and limiting their way of playing. It’s actually less variety than a trinity mmo. At least in trinity mmos, you can have 3 roles. In GW2, it’s more efficient to have one.

When Anet said “play how you want”, when referring to dungeons, i’m pretty sure they meant play whatever classes and builds you want, without being restricted to a specific role, except it didn’t turn out that way. It became one role and one meta, and they have failed to address for almost 3 years.

The funny thing is, they just removed the Practice games in SPvP.

Wait, so you say that you want to play how you want and that should then be the most efficient strategy? I see what you did there…

The Pale Tree’s ability to show a possibility of the future was tied to the Dream, which is how she’s also apparently protecting the sylvari (even Nightmare Courtiers) – Mordremoth has to slip through the loopholes of that protection, Wyld Hunts and Dark Hunts, in order to influence them.

So I don’t think anything related to the Dream is related to the Elder Dragons or their minions.

Glint’s ability of foresight and telepathy was also presented as unique and part of why she chose to aid the other races after being given free will. Given that Glint is hinted at being a corrupted being rather than a construct like the Shatterer, that means her ability was more natural to her pre-corruption, most likely.

I think you are wrong here because it’s most likely that the Dream is created by Mordremoth.

We know that the Pale Tree is not creating the Dream, but merely guarding it (gotta have to look up where I read that, but I definitely did).
We know also that Elder Dragons in general know what their minions know (got mentioned multiple times during Personal Story)

The only thing I’m not really liking about that game so far is the prioritizing of attacks, in that I mean that I can’t cancel my auto with a skill, I have to wait for the “auto” to finish then activate the skill, or just spam it. Well, I also am not a big fan of returning to the trinity, but it is what it is there.

Now you feel how it is to use sword as Ranger.

Wuselknusel.4082

I am using the sword mainly in PvE and I can’t really support the notion of being able to dodge reliably when using the AA. Either the AA transitions poorly into Serpents Strike, which lets my Ranger only evade if the aftercast of the AA was finished, or the boss was simply not visible due to particle effects to tell when to disrupt the AA (I can tell what attack the enemy is going to do, but too late to cancel the AA). Ofcourse you can get around that by using an offhandskill and immediately dodge, but I think that is rather a workaround than an intended mechanic.

As for PvP, I’ve watched some videos of Frou Frou kiting multiple players with the sword, what I noticed is that she almost never took advantage of the leaps on the AA, but rather using Hornet Sting to keep the enemies at bay.

Now, many people, including me, have been pushing for a rework of the sword. Many others have said that they are fine with the sword as it is. I’d like to ask why that is.
Which skill is most iconic for the sword, which skill defines it the most?
What is the most useful skill?
How often do you use the skills and why are you using them?

Here is an example:
1) The most iconic skill for me is the second one. Monarch’s Leap and Hornet Sting add the most maneuverability to the sword’s kit.
2) Again the second one. It can be used as gapcloser.
3) AA – to attack stuff
HS & ML – to close gaps
Serpent’s Strike – when trying to evade big hits (wont work most of the time)

The only dungeons I don’t like to run for the collection is HotW, and that is mostly due to the PuGs I’m running with.

Question. Who actually enjoys being 1 insignificant player out of 100 in a huge zerg?

I do sometimes. Stomping zerks, picking up stragglers, laughing about teammates when they run into obvious AoE spikes. All that stuff. WvW that is. In PvE I only do it when I need the loot.

Normally, I don’t post here. However, I’ve been doing some JPs lately for achievement points (no interest in PvP/WvW, so points need to come from somewhere). I suspect ANet collects metrics on this sort of thing, and might mistakenly assume I’m doing that because they’re enjoyable. I want to correct that, because I do think this is generally a pretty good game.

JPs aren’t pleasant at all. They’re arguably the worst thing in PvE. It’s less a puzzle than it is a constant fight against a camera which is clearly not designed for the needlessly cramped spaces in which it’s trying to operate (much less with larger characters), obfuscating any helpful references and sapping the fun out of the experience. What should in theory be a fun diversion ends up being incredibly frustrating and painful. I’m genuinely baffled that people claim to like them.

Rant over.

What? If you would have wrote this 2 months earlier, you may have had a point. But now ANet has gone a long way to fix this since that point and has implemented first person camera and a colision detection. So all tools you need to not get your camera stuck is built into your client.

Their traps are on such long CDs that no DH in their right mind would use trapper runes, I can’t see it being needed. Maybe with trap thief however… Needle trap on heal with Withdraw every 12s plus venoms and sneak attack would be absurd.

Trapper rune stealth stacks right? 15sec stealth on class that doesn’t naturally have stealth is weird. Its weird rangers even get 9 with stacking if they really tried. No I’m not suggesting 5 traps = op, its just not right.

Hi, its not really “stacking” its more like a stealth chain. If timed right you can keep long duration of stealth. I do agree trapper could use like (5 sec) ICD just to prevent that chain. Regarding gurds, I also think it will not see that much of the play. gurds traps are on long CD and more about controlling a location, compared to ranger’s traps which can be used in a “skirmishing play style”. Lets wait and see if the changes to traps will also change the style of the skill.

Lol, why should there be an internal cooldown? The Ranger needs the stealth, the Dragon Hunter can’t work with it (getting 15s stealth for atleast 40and5s CD on traps?) and the Thief can stealth anyways all the time. So there is absolutely no need for an ICD.

Lets not forget that PvE content currently resolves only around keeping and buffing the damage. So while the Ranger may be behind in damage, he could make up for that through other capabilities, like defensive options the warrior doesn’t have.

Now I don’t say that the Ranger is indeed better than the Warrior in other aspects, but this may be the reason why the Ranger is lacking in damage. I also think that ANet initially wanted the spirits to be more actively used, while banners are purely passive buffs.

I find it rather interesting to look at the Sylvari to determine to what degree an elder dragon is evil and how this evilness is connected to the magic they are using. Sylvari are minions of Mordremoth and are using his magic. But clearly this magic alone isn’t evil in the slightest, given that the Pale Tree is a giant magic creature. It is also very interesting to think about how potent this magic is. The Pale Tree was able to show us the future, or atleast a possible future. Do elder dragons possess the same power? How does this translate into the story? (If Zhaitan was able to atleast loosely guess what will happen, how were we able to beat him?)

To come back to the question of this thread, the right question to answer could be this: If there are in general 6 types of magic, one for each dragon/resemebled by one dragon, is divine magic then a 7th type of magic? If we tie each dragon and their magic to one realm we have seen in Omad’s machine, is divine magic then the magic of the realm we live in, the realm which is currently the main realm because it possesses the most magic currently?

@OP: You should ask yourself these questions:

- What do you expect from a bossfight in dungeons?
- How do you achieve this expectations?
- Does your idea really achieve what you expect?
- Does your idea have any drawbacks?

Let me try to answer these questions for you. You want more thrilling bossfights and I assume that you don’t find thrill in optimising your damage and killing the bosses as quick as possible, because otherwise you wouldn’t even have started this thread.

Your argument of how to make bossfights more entertaining is to remove might, so that bosses don’t die as quickly. You hope that those bosses will become more challenging with this change. Now for you this might be true, for you the bosses might become harder to deal with. But for “us”, for the ones who are already doing dungeons on a daily basis and the ones who know how the bosses work and how to play around them, it wont be more fun. It will be more dull. GW2 did never have the best boss mechanics or the best AI and the most bosses are very simple. In fact, the only fun most of “us” find in these bossfights is the thrill to be as effective as possible and to kill the boss as quickly as possible, because the bossfight itself is not thrilling.

So the third question I’ve asked you to answer would have to be answered with no, it doesn’t achieve what you it to achieve. Not for the masses.

Why would anet need anti-stacking mechanics when stacking doesn’t do anything? Do you understand why people stack and what it accomplishes or doesn’t accomplish? Are you going to continue to be kitten about a topic you clearly don’t understand?

I didn’t realize I was so lucky as to be speaking to the duly-elected representative of the Dungeon Community. That being said, the majority of the community probably doesn’t keep up to date with metabattle.

The irony is you first sentence is dripping with sarcasm but you have no idea that its basically true. The second part of your sentence reveals your flawed thinking: wannabe elitist scrub pugs aren’t in the dungeon community any more than the rally bots who follow commanders in WvW and dont come on TS are in the WvW community.

Wait, you are the elected representative of the Dungeon Community? That’s crazy… When was the election held?

And yeah… people who play dungeons regularly are kind of in the “Dungeon Community”, unless you really are some sort of elected official who gets to determine membership in your club.

But please, continue to tell me how No True Scotsman puts sugar in his porridge.

As to your other point, I pretty clearly state that it was a Game Community issue, as well as a game content issue.

(And yes, stacking benefits in providing instant contact to downed allies for res, sitting in combo fields without effort, and LOSing adds when they spawn, forcing them into melee range. If it wasn’t at all beneficial, people wouldn’t do it.)

Also, when 5 strangers randomly meet to run a dungeon, who gets to play dictator? Do we have to run an election?

There is no “election” in the “Dungeon Community”, you become “a part of it” when you understand how dungeons are cleared most efficiently and why it works that way. You obviously lack that understanding, as your last paragraph shows.
