Shouts in HoT

Wuselknusel.4082

Well, the reason I think why shouts will never be truly good is because they only affect our pet and only traited give any advantage to us. My suggestions try to add a benefit for the ranger as well, but if you have a better idea how to add bonuses for the ranger to shouts, please post them.

An idea how to make Sic’Em worthwhile for both Ranger and pet would be to add superspeed in hit for each other to its current kit.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Im seeing a trend of godly overpowered skills on the new specs so far. But im willing to bet necro doesnt get anything anywhere near that amazing.

You feel bad for Necros? Guardians have gotten traps, just like Rangers do have, with the slight difference that the Guardian traps will be godly on a fairly long cooldown while the Ranger traps are currently useless in PvE and only really make sense in one specific build in PvP. Guardians have also gotten the LB and their skillrotation seems more powerful than the Ranger LB, from a utility standpoint especially.
I guess we have to wait what the actual damage will look like, but I foresee many PewPewRangers becoming PewPewGuardians.

Shouts in HoT

Wuselknusel.4082

So we heard that RaO and HaO will be shouts in HoT, we know that they will roughly stay the same and we know that the current shouts find no real use outside of providing swiftness.
I’d like to use this opportunity to suggest changes to the current shouts to increase the interaction between pet and ranger.

One example would be a long lasting buff that pulses protection on you and your pet, just like RaO pulses swiftness, fury and stability. Furthermore, if your pet gets hit you will gain regeneration and vice versa, like RaO gives might on hit.

Another example would be a condition remove for both you and your pet upon skill usage and another boon on hit for each other.

A third example could be a replacement for “Guard”, which would constantly pulse swiftness on you and your pet, while your attacks grant your pet stealth and your pet attacks grant you a boon like vigor or fury.

An example for an updated Heal as One would be a significant heal upon skill usage and condition remove/regen application.

An idea to convert “Search and Rescue” to the new shout system would be to give the downed player and your pet a burst of health (200 – 500 HP) per attack you do while your pet is reviving the player.

No grind philosophy

Wuselknusel.4082

Everything the OP lists is a CHOICE….you don’t have to do any of those. If you’re sick of it you can STOP doing it at any point.

I would choose Anet’s type of “grind” (fully optional) over other developers that REQUIRE you do the GRIND to advance the game…..

90% of the items in this game are not required. For 90% of those you can grind if you want them in a reasonable timeframe. So yes, you don’t have to grind. You can stick with the 10% of the items you don’t need to grind for.

But the truth is that players want to get more, why shouldn’t they? ANet certainly incentivises farming those items (or buying them). You don’t have to grind anything. But after players got the 10% you don’t need to grind for, they look around and ask themselves what is left to do. And the answer is almost certainly “grind for x item”.

why does gw2 feel like a grindy f2p?

I love how all those “knowledgable” people bash the one claiming that this game is grindy instead of just once asking why he feels that way. There are indeed multiple reasons why this game could be called grindy, yet you keep bashing him because if you have no problem with the game, then the game obviously has no flaws.
But keep bashing, you’re the reason why this game is going down the road they’ve taken with NPE changes, streamlined content and only support for content that is not even rudimentary challenging (with the great exeption of the triple trouble worm).

And I’ve heard, eventhough it’s not mentioned on Dulfy, that the grenade kit will have its range reduced to 900 and the mortar kit will become the new long range weapon for the engineer

Ouch. I haven’t watched the full stream or read any of the professions forums. That’s a pretty nasty hit to grenades.

Nades are reduced to 900 and the trait: grenadier only increases velocity and radius

Aye, but we’re also getting Mortar Kit, which might be up to 1400 range I’d think. If it acts like current mortar kit though it’ll have a minimum range.

Since you will carry it around, I don’t think it has a minimum range. I imagine it more like a rocket launcher or grenade launcher.

The thing is that the range increase was mentioned in the trait Eagle Eye, however it is not mentioned in the new trait Lead the Wind. And I’ve heard, eventhough it’s not mentioned on Dulfy, that the grenade kit will have its range reduced to 900 and the mortar kit will become the new long range weapon for the engineer. I don’t know if that means that the mortar kit has 1200 range or 1500.

Wuselknusel.4082

Engineers were the only other class to have 1500 range, with grenades. And that will be removed and reduced to 900 range. It’s possible the default for longbow would remain at 1200. Remember the longbow arrows are projectiles, it’s already ~1400range by default.

The engineers therefore get the mortar kit as new long range weapon. The default range for the longbow is 1200, however it gets boosted, as does any other range, so that the longbow can hit targets beyond 1500 range.

So I have noticed that there will be no trait for the ranger to boost his longbow range to 1500. Since the ranger is supposedly the one who fits the long range theme the best out of all classes, my question is if the other classes who are currently able to also reach 1500 range will have their range reduced aswell.

Human and Norn have very distinct ways of viewing life, they have a different culture, they reside differently and they have different goals in life. All those things however get burried under the storytelling, which is mediocre at best. They don’t have to be physically different to be able to differentiate them as race.

The only two mistakes this game has made is the lootsystem and the refinancing through the gemshop. Both mistakes were made to appeal to the lazy gamers, the on-off gamers or the weekend gamers. Those two mistakes have hindered the game to become challenging and fun on a long term basis. And as long as there are players out there who have no clue how the classes work they’re playing or players who only want to play a small section of this game and still get everything in this game, this game will proceed to underperform.

This is a sure sign of possibly needing to consider doing something else with your time….

I don’t want to repeat the details about this, since this has been discussed in other threads multiple times, but the fact that you just have to get gold to get nearly everything in this game is simply not fun and creates the inclination to farm gold most effeciently, e. g. doing 5% of the activities the game offers and ignoring the other 95% of the game.

Agreed but the reason they don’t do that is because those exact same people who can’t make money would be the ones who cry when the only way to get X armor set is by completing Y content.

That’s why I have very little hope that this game will become what I imagined it to be at first.

Wuselknusel.4082

I don’t disagree with you, but that’s because the two games have attracted polar opposite crowds that sustain them. The largest portion of GW2’s playerbase is unskilled, and bad at even the very easy content we have now. The number of people I’ve seen playing for months who die multiple times to predictable mob attacks is pretty astonishing. That isn’t to say that the hardcore community doesn’t exist (it certainly does), though. Either way, I am confident we’ll see at least some measure of end-game content that will be reasonably difficult with HoT… Although I don’t foresee that taking the form of a dungeon.

I can’t and wont believe that most players currently playing the game would abandon it if it becomes more challenging. Because that would mean that we can burry the idea of challenging content outside of some small dungeon-like instances once and for all.
And that’s not a direction I want the game to be heading towards.

I also don’t think the issue is that players don’t do dungeons, it’s that players don’t enjoy dungeons. You see no threads about how exciting certain dungeon content is, and you didn’t even back when they first came out. Then they tried their hand at a dungeon path and a vast majority of players hated it (not to mention they removed a path at the same time….). At this point they’ve really stepped back and are attempting to get it right with HoT. We’ll have to wait and hear more before we know for sure what their angle is, but color me an optimist because I think they’ll get it right (or right enough).

I’ve included the lacking fun in dungeons out of personal perception because I thougt that boiling down all the reasons why people don’t play dungeons to the people aren’t good enough would sound hyperbole. I for one have completed the dungeons often enough to be bored of it. Some could argue that I then should try to duo/solo dungeons, but that never appealed to me anyways. And now I’m aking myself how to get the gold required to get all the fun stuff in this utterly broken economy the game has.

The bad playerbase

Posted by: Wuselknusel.4082

Wuselknusel.4082

If that is the case, I don’t think harder content with better rewards is going to motivate people to get better.

I’d like to politely disagree here. Just look at Dark Souls. If people would not want to get better if the content is forcing them to, noone would play Dark Souls, yet it is one of the most popular games today. The problem of the GuildWars community is that they equate a death with the content is too hard. If you die in GW2, the content isn’t balanced because you’re not used to die in GW2. If people would have the same mindset when playing Dark Souls, this game would’ve never been as popular as it is.
People have to move away from the mindset that the devs didn’t want you to die in this game, that this game has to be beatable without dying. If you look at PvE, this mindset certainly holds true, there is almost nothing you can’t do as level 80 alone.
But when the players don’t die, they wont improve and if they don’t improve, they will fail in dungeons. If they fail in dungeons, they will cry it’s too hard and will abandon dungeons. Now we can all see the results of this. Because dungeons are not fun to complete the 1000th time or are too hard for the ones who have not yet completed dungeons atleast 1000 times, they get abandoned. ANet sees this and abandons dungeons aswell, because obviously, not enough players are playing them.

People will, instead, just go do easy and rewarding things like Silverwastes, earn gold, and then buy any of the nice-to-have’s that “ranked dungeons” or the like would bring.

This is a problem with the economy of the game, namely the reward system and the gemshop. It boils down to the fact that gold is everything you need in this game and because there is no other incentive to do things than to get gold, it is obvious that the average player will do only that what has the best cost-benefit ratio for him.

Technically speaking, a good part of the bow should be showing in first-person along with the hand drawing the arrow(s) back on the bow in that screenshot.

If Anet is trying to pull off true first-person view, it may as well be done right. And if players have a problem with first-person done the right way, then there should then be an option available to players to turn off seeing your character’s weapons and hands.

Why is silk going up in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wuselknusel.4082

Wuselknusel.4082

Hm. What I find strange, is that John Smith posted on here, but only to comment on the validity of the thread, rather than the topic itself.

Is this an issue ArenaNet doesn’t care about, or is it just something they’re aware of, but don’t want to discuss right now?

It is something they are well aware of, and in fact John Smith said several times in various threads about the matter, that Silk was intentional and is working as intended. He also said in regards to player perception of a broken economy, that he doesn’t care. So from those type of statements that he already has made, one can reasonablly assume that in rergards to silk pricing is: that it is fine, its working like it should, and he doesn’t care about the misconception of silk being overpriced.

he said he doesnt care if players are unsatisfied with economy? really?

Question:
Do you care/will do something about the fact game economy is really perceived as broken?
Or if you instead think its well perceived, why don’t you look at every single thread that had the luck to remain for few hours in general section?

There were many threads about how important economy perception is in a videogame.

If by “really perceived” you mean that you mistakenly perceive a fantastic and functioning system as broken, then no… I don’t care.

i dont think this means he doesnt care if players are unsatisfied, merely that he doesnt care if that particular player thinks the economy is broken.

but i could be wrong, perhaps you are right, and he doesnt care.

That statement is taken out of context. Obviously I care about how the community feels about the economy, my activity on these forums should be proof of that. That individual I was speaking to was being intentionally antagonistic.

Then add me to the list of people who are unhappy with the current economy. :P

I think – and hope – that the old classes will get updates aswell. For now, projectile autoattacks always had only a 20% chance to trigger the finisher, the revenant now got 100% on the hammer. [Theory] Sylvari are actually Spirits?

The thing Rytlock takes down with a spear? Really doesn’t look like a charr, imo.

Neither do I but its a possibility.

We’ve seen a corrupted charr in the trailer.

Let’s say it is a ’’charr’’, what’s to say it’s a corrupted corpse rather than a corrupted spirit? The difference would mean the charr’s corpse is left behind for us to see.

Nope, he isn’t. In fact, Malyck is one of the last unsolved mysteries. He looks like “our” Sylvari, even though he is from another Tree. “Our” Sylvari look like they do because the Pale tree modelled them after humans who were buried under the tree. This would most likely mean that the unknown tree is also planted upon buried humans, if we assume that Anet sticks to its guns.

The other mysteries is why the pale tree didn’t model sylvari after Ventari and why the PC sylvari can summon druid spirits if they’re simply spawns of the dragon.

The only one who can corrupt corpses is Zhaitan. Mordremoth, as does Jormag or Kralkatorrik, can just corrupt living beings.

And I don’t see why Sylvari shouldn’t be able to summon Druid spirits. Humans can summon the Hounds of Balthazar, even though they’re just loosely connected to the gods.

You missed the point. The point was whats to say that ‘charr’ was just a construct that looks like a charr in the same way sylvari look human. I’m not saying Mordremoth can’t corrupt the playable races, I’m saying mord doesn’t corrupt their bodies (hence why their left behind). Instead, it’s their soul which is corrupted and and their physical appearance as a result correlates to their spectral appearance. So if a human soul is corrupted, then the plant body will take a human shape. If a charr is corrupted, then the plant body takes a charr shape.

Also, humans are not ‘loosely’ tied to the gods, their whole society and culture revolves around them. They derived their magic from them too. It’s even thought they were created by them. What do sylvari know of the druids? How did they know of them? Whats the connection? Even though you tried to dilute the connection that humans have to their Gods with your terminology, you admit that at least they have connection. There’s nothing in the lore so far to suggest a connection between sylvari and druids.

I think you haven’t quite grasped what the Sylvari are. They are Mordremoth’s minions, they just have been protected from his influence. If Mordremoth now corrupt them, then they wont change their appearance. The only other creature corrupted by Mordremoth is presumably the charr we see in the trailer.

And the humans neither derive their magic from the gods, nor were they created by the gods. We don’t know where the Druids come from but we know that they are tree-beings. And what are the Sylvari? Tree people. And just because the Sylvari presumably derive their magic from Mordremoth and the Druids their magic from an unknown source (which could also be Mordremoth), doesn’t mean that the Sylvari are spirtual beings.

Everyone seems to forget:

The main key to the design was developing an obvious anatomy that clearly described the race as plant rather than an offshoot of human. However, because the race tightly relates to the essence of human due to the Pale Tree’s influences from Ronan, the overall form has a human silhouette. But if you look more closely, you’ll see the forms are really quite alien. They are a collection of abstract notions the Pale Tree had about what made up the human, as she really only saw the surface. They are a tree’s interpretation of humans.

No, you do not need to be level 18.

You can actually enter PvP and WvW from level 2. You’re just not told about them until later on.

You can not enter WvW until level 18 and PvP until level 22. I visually verified this after this post. When you try to access them a mouseover tooltip pops up stating these levels are required. I’m assuming this applies to new accounts only and is not applicable if you have a higher level toon on your account.

My point is that the new players are encouraged to participate in these events by a daily quest pop up. Regardless of how many other players think a new player should and shouldn’t enjoy their game experience the fact remains that a new player is given a task they can not complete.

I would prefer the new players be given encouragement to play in areas that they actually can complete.

I can use most of the stale arguments being thrown out AGAINST making changes. You don’t actually NEED ANYTHING, having a weapon, a trait, a this or that, or whatever is all a WANT. Even the desire to succeed in raiding in other games is A WANT. You don’t NEED to go out and finish raids and kill world bosses, you can run around any game naked and explore, sure you might die and be super ineffective and what not but that IS an option. And I kind of feel that is the same argument many of you use here, “You don’t NEED to do X or Y, you can just settle for Z.”. But why should people have to settle?

That’s why I dismiss all the “It’s just optional!” arguments.

Some people can solo dungeons naked = Gear isn’t necessary = Everything is optional = There is no Grind! I’ve now proven that there never was, is or will be grind in this game.

“There is no grind.” Sounds like: “These aren’t the Droids you’re looking for.”

Hey folks,

I just want to take a second to address this topic, because it’s something we state as one of our key philosophies – but don’t often clarify exactly what we mean we say it. And because everyone and their mother has their own unique interpretation of what grind can mean, it’s very simple for this to feel like we’re not following our own guidelines when we build and implement content.

When our company president said we have an anti-grind philosophy way back before Gw2 shipped, and when it has been repeatedly reinforced since then, our statement is simply: “We don’t think you should need to grind to get the best gear and stats in Guild Wars 2”.

So what exactly does that mean:

[…]

I would like to chime in here because that is the part where my interpretation of grind is diverging from your interpretation if grind.

First of all, I think it’s pretty cheap to say that you don’t want the player “to grind for stats”, since GW2 isn’t about stats but about skins. It’s like, to put it hyperbolic, the devs of Tetris saying they’ve aimed for the best possible story ever told in a videogame.

But we can see how your motive influenced the game:
Nearly all rewards are given through RNG. You have the chance to get everything from nearly everywhere and if you don’t you can atleast buy it from the traiding post.
Now the problem is that this design creates new issues, funny enough, those issues lead to feeling the need to grind.
As I’ve said, the RNG lets you get everything almost everywhere. This has two consequences:

  • First, the player is never able to say “I am going for X”. You are not able to say at the moment: “I am going for a precursor right now.” or “I am going for tier 5 blood”, you can just say: “I am doing this activity and hope that I get what I want.” This creates dissatisfaction for the player because he can’t control when he gets the items he wants, other than rolling the RNG dice a second, third or fourth time.
  • Second, the player is creating items he can’t use. He is selling them because he want atleast to get some gold for those items. This creates another two issues:
    • If the item is unwanted, the traiding post gets flooded with it. The devs then can’t use this item for new possible uses, because their metrics tell them that this item is way too common, unless the increase the quantity you need for the new use. this happened with ascended gear. And what is the complaint about ascneded gear? That it feels too grindy.
    • If the item is listed in the traiding post, it’s most of the time easier to get the gold to buy the item instead of playing the game to get the item as drop. So the average player of GW2 will start to get gold. To make more gold, he’ll start to look for the best way to make gold. Once he has found it, he will do it over and over until he got enough gold to get what he wants. And that repeats for every item he wants. And what do we call doing the same thing over and over? Grinding.

So in the end, by not giving the player a special way of obtaining an item reliably, so this special way doesn’t get grinded, you’ve created a grind for the only option left to obtain an item reliably: Buying it from the traiding post.
And I’ll go out on a limb and say that acquiring an item yourself feels more awesome than running to the traiding post with all your savings to buy it.

I am more confused by the Masteries. It totally looks like instead of gear grind, we will get skill grind. But on paper? Yes, “no gear treadmill”.

Ascended = grindy as hell.

YMMV. “I should get everything tomorrow” =/= optional long-term goal.

Some people can solo dungeons naked = No gear required = Everything is optional = There is no grind.

Reminds me an awful lot of this quote:
“These are not the Droids you’re looking for.”

Could you please fix the bowstring of Kudzu? The string is still not attached to the bow. And, you know, Kudzu is a legendary, so it would be nice if you would tackle this issue.
