You know what makes me really suspicious? When the Priory base was attacked by the Risen, you asked Gixx about how the heck did the Risen know where the Priory base was.

Gixx replied that they must have resurrected a member of the Priory and found out the base’s whereabouts from that.

No Risen attacks on the Priory ever before Sieran died. Sudden massive Risen invasion shortly after. Oh dear, looks like we might see her again real soon….

You don;t really need expansions to be a successful MMO. Look at RuneScape for example, like it or not, that’s probably right near the top of the most successful MMOs ever made list next to WoW. It has a very similar update schedule to GW2, 4 small-ish updates a month, and it’s been running for a decade and although player numbers have dropped since its heyday, it doesn’t show any signs of going off the market.

As to the new and upcoming MMOs, the only one I find mildly appealing is ESO. All the other ones when you break them down to what they’re really offering, its pretty much the same old mechanics of MMOs all over again. Take Wildstar for example, the stuff its hyping itself on: housing, some sort of a PvP base, etc, have all been seen before, bringing nothing new to the table. In fact, if you break it down, its basically WoW in space.

Is it easier to buy of craft ?

Tallying up the costs of everything you can buy to make a legendary (precursor and all gifts save Mastery)… crafting Twilight, if you bought all the materials but made Gift of Mastery yourself, would cost approximately 1404.64g. Twilight is currently being sold for 1777.77g. In other words, if you buy the legendary directly, you’re paying a markup of ~374g.

Just throwing that out there in case anyone finds it interesting. I will say that the crafting price varies depending on your luck with clovers, the market, and how many mats you have saved up/get dropped. Also, I did that calculation on paper (no calculator) and with plenty of rounding, so it may be off here or there.

I looked on the trading post today and Twilght is actually going for 1525. Eternity is going for 1740. I’m not sure if these prices change or not but as of right now those are the prices listed on the main screen. When I pulled up legendary weapons through the search options, the price you listed came up. Confusing.

The 1525g is the buy order. Someone’s basically saying they’re willing to buy Twilight for 1525g, but there’s no guarantee if anyone will bite. The ~1700 price refers to the selling price- if you were to buy Twilight immediately, that would be the price you would have to pay.

Ah Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for replies and information.

The “Top Value Items” column is always for buy orders.

https://bravevesperia.com/extra/weaponcalculator.php can show you the cost of the various parts of a legendary. The actual price can be significantly cheaper since you can use buy orders to get some things for less. For things like lodestones it is generally cheaper to get cores and convert to lodestones.

It’s always going to be cheaper to craft it your self even if you are just buy the raw ingredients and putting them together. It cost around 1400g to make Twilight. It needs to be sold for around 1650g just to break even due to the listing fee and taxes.

Crafting seems to be the way to go then. Are there any sites that tell you what you need and where to go to get what you need for Twilight ? It would be nice to be able to print out the ingredients needed.

…then there’s the new issues popping up… Like having Escorts that spawn champions or Plaguers/Subjugators that nuke the entire NPC team in 1 single attack and cause it to fail instantly. Do you really expect the newbie/n00b zerg train to keep doing those after the 3rd time they fail it? …of course they’re going to go easier champs instead in a safe little circuit that cuts down on their WP’ing and Repair bills. If they liked getting Ganked constantly, they’d be in WvW instead…

This I completely agree with. It just puts a lot of false difficulty into the events and I totally agree that it needs to be fixed ASAP.

The question is, of course, how many times have those who prefer farming Champions done the meta events over the course of a year? One, five, fifty, one hundred, three hundred? At what point does doing the same thing get monotonous, no matter how much fun it was the first time, or the 5oth?

I don’t think anyone would play any MMO if they don’t find repeating some bits of content quite a lot of times having some form of entertainment value, and no matter how boring any of those meta-events are, I could not imagine it being more monotonous than ‘going to area A. hit the 1 key 50 times, press F, warp to B, repeat for 3 hours straight’.

If I were ANet, I’d wonder what that would take. I did Dwayna two days ago, got the bonus rare, got the chest, and got a loot bag from the statue. Had I been there earlier, I would also have gotten a loot bag from the Risen Priestess. At what point does “more rewarding” become “too rewarding?”

I’d simply take player attendance as a judge. If people aren’t doing the event, its clearly unrewarding relative to other events in the area if there’s a ton of people doing those other events. I’d then look at if the other events are ‘too rewarding’ and make a decision from there.

But the message I was trying to express is that it is just absolutely heartbreaking to see much of what was so unique about the game (or at least promoted as unique points) so quickly being abandoned and ending up as dead content, whilst the recent update to champion bags had an unintentional effect of turning much of PvE into the biggest grindfest I’ve seen since I played RuneScape.

World Bosses- Y they bad [Videos]

in Dynamic Events

Xae Isareth.1364

I think that even if ANet changed the mechanics of the world boss fights, the majority of the population would simply skip it and do the easy ones.

The Claw of Jormag fight introduces some “anti-zerg” mechanics. There is frozen ground that you can’t just rush through and attack until certain conditions are met whether it is breaking the shield during phase I or defending the golems from crystals during phase II.

The majority of people hate the Claw fight, and most won’t even show up until phase II. The reason being “it takes too long.” If ANet introduces some of the suggestions above to other bosses, it would make the fights longer and no one will bother doing them.

Would you spend 10-15 minutes killing a world boss for a guaranteed rare and a chest, or run a dungeon in that amount of time for enough money to buy that rare plus have spare change? As great as some of the ideas above are, people will always gravitate toward the best return in time investment, even if it means a dull fight. The community wants things easy, and they want it now.

Then the solution is easy, just up the rewards as well. Make important meta events and world bosses give more loot for the time taken than anything else on the map. If killing the Claw gave you 30 champion coffers, people would flock to it en masse even if they made it hard as Balhazaar.

This game prided itself on the meta event chains it had, and at conferences exhibitions before the game came out, it showcased world bosses like the Claw of Jormag, the Shatterer, and amazed crowds of gamers.

But what has the game turned into?

Claw of Jormag is up guys! ‘Nope, too busy farming champions.’
Temple of Grenth meta event up! ‘Sorry, we’re all farming champions.’

And even before that, most event chains never got done after a couple of months into the game’s launch as people just abandoned the lower levelled areas after they out levelled them.

New players come into the game expecting events on an epic scale, all they see is tons and tons of really well designed but dead content.

It’s just so sad to see.

Of course as we all know, the reason behind this is simply because MMO gamers mostly don’t play the game for fun, they play it for efficiency. So no matter how monotonous farming champions over and over and over again is, people will do it if it gives better payouts than other more interesting events.

So the only solution to this problem is to just cater to them. For the higher levelled events (eg the Temples in Orr) in areas where player activity is high, the solution is simple: make them more rewarding, make them the most rewarding events to do on the entire map, so people are incentivised to do them.

For the lower levelled ones, it’s more complicated. There needs to be a reason to come back to them without making them overly rewarding for their levels. A good solution would be the addition of unique, useful rewards that only drop from those events. Such as a scroll which gave your account a 5% karma bonus, or unique skills only obtainable as a drop from those events.

They should really add those coffers to the major events as rewards. e.g. Each part of Balhazaar completed would give you 10 coffers, and finally freeing the temple gives you 15 coffers. A higher difficulty should grant a higher reward, not the other way round.

Difficulty Balthazar temple! Nerf plz!

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Xae Isareth.1364

Xae Isareth.1364

For me, the difficulty of this event is just too much for a DE. It would be perfectly OK as a part of an instanced raid, because then you can expect a co-ordinated group with every member knowing exactly what to do.

But this is a DE, its supposed to be open to everyone, which means you are expecting random people to show up who has no clue how the DE functions and have never done it before, and thus have no idea what to expect and has no clue what they’re doing. You can also expect people to show up and not listen to what the commanders say, and you can’t just ‘kick’ those people out of your party.

So, the difficulty of this needs to account for that, or this event needs to be removed from the open world and rescaled to be added as instanced content for a party of 10-15 with a new list of rewards.

How do they keep the game running ? Improving story and content aspect of the game or the farming aspect of the game ?

Well it is obvious they do not improve content… Look at past year and all of the carnival events they added with no depth and you have your answer. Now I just need Vayne and other white knights who were talking how anet doesn’t want “us” to farm and just to play the game to explain that to you

Well, its not that they don’t try. 4 teams all working on separate projects at once and a 2-weekly release schedule is really quite ambitious. The stuff that came out aren’t exactly of low quality either.

Its just that for the majority of it, its kind of effort spent doing the wrong things.

After what the OP posted, you’re still gonna defend Arena.Net???

The guy wants his legendary weapon. Apparently that in this game, going on an epic adventure to build your legendary weapon = standing in front of the mystic forge and dumping items.

kittening Legendary.

+1
I’d rather go through a raid and do something epic rather than stand in front of the mystic toilet.

Oh really? Please describe in detail a ‘raid’ that could be done that would justify the reward of a precursor and still be difficult enough too keep Legendaries rare.

Do you want the Legendary status gated by behind skill? I’m all for it! I’ll bet you 300g that the community sets this board on fire should that happen.

A fight against all six gods and Abbadon as well, all at once. It would take your entire guild 18 hours to try. The fight contains over 900 different 1HKO attacks which each gives you about 0.2 seconds to perform the right action to dodge it (one of which involves typing the entire alphabet if every 4th letter was swapped with every 3rd, twice, this gives you a generous 10 seconds to do however), and point precise positioning of the bosses (GW2 has a tanking class right?).

There will be news articles the next day after the patch about how GW2 caused players to vomit, become physically sick and/or die from doing this raid over and over again, but hey, then we got a hard enough fight to get precursors.

Cookies if you got what the 18 hours was referencing.

Its quite a good thing, before this happened, there was really next to no point in killing most champions unless you needed the 60 kills for a monthly.

My only concern at the moment is the effect of this on how people fight in a group event. Now everyone just goes straight for the champions whenever they spawn and ignore everything else. Luckily, at the moment there really isn’t many group events that actually require strategy or co-ordination, but if hey ever did something like having 2 dozen Risen trebs firing at you from far away whilst 2 champions spawn, I can see every group getting wiped.

Well, whenever this argument about ‘which class is the best’ comes about, it just becomes nonsensical to the point where everyone starts stating which class is the best/worst using arguments which are based either on questionable methods or skewed to put whatever class in whatever light they wish to.

Then the devs read this mess and ‘tries’ (if they do) to interpret what the heck is going on and end up screwing class balancing even more.

It probably won’t work if they made it permanent. Currently, the reason why everyone is there is because
1. Its time-limited
2. For a semi-afk activity, income there is amazing.

Now if this thing stays there forever:
1. Loses this novelty.
2. There’s a good chance that the prices of loot there will drop until its below that of some other sources of income.

Both of which means less players in the Pavilion, and since everything in there apart from the Gauntlet is designed for huge zergs, it doesn’t work.

Xae Isareth.1364

There’s quite a few ‘difficult’ encounters or boss fights which you and your guild can work on. For example, Temple of Balhazaar.

It’s just that the effort:reward in this game is often turned on its head. E.g. zerging around the Queen’s Pavilion at the moment, which of course is a semi-afk task for any character with ranged attacks, earns you more gold than anything else at the moment.

This is quite personal, but I tend to think that the traditional gear treadmill you have in 99% of all other MMOs is actually very, very, detrimental to progress. It really puts me off getting the ‘best’ gear because in a couple of month’s time, all those hours you put into getting said gear gets wasted as that gear now becomes the second best. Since Legendaries will always be the best gear in the game, I’m incentivized to put the countless hours needed to get them.

A lot of personal story parts where done so very right, eg, the epicness of that battle on Claw Island, but this part was done just so badly wrong.

1. Its supposed to be a vision, so, why do you fight in it? You’re not supposed to be able to interact with a vision, unless the Mother was trying to kill both you and Trehrne and she was actually the threat to the world all along, with the Elder Dragons being her puppets.

2. Instead of a vision of hope for the future, where Trehrne guides the armies of Tyria to victory against Zhaitan, the vision actually shows him and the rest of the Vigil army pummeled to death by an army of the risen, and you alone left alive and cornered. Really ruins the experience and immersion.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I am aware of, they’re very. very. rarely traded. Each time I go to the TP to check Sunrise out for curiosity (my end-goal for this game), it pretty much the exact same sword sitting there on top of the selling list.

@^ I don’t really see why it would be OP or unfair if you can just transfer the stats as well. Like I pointed out in the first post, it costs so much just on monetary terms alone to craft a legendary that you would be able to easily kit as many characters as would like with the current top-end weapons.

Even if you fully geared 5 characters with every type of stat-build on a single weapon possible,, it would still cost less than making a Legendary. So I don’t think that’s really a problem.

Although we would have to see how much it costs to craft an Ascended item.

Besides, Legendaries were designed to be basically the be-all and end-all weapon of that type you’ll ever use.

Make Legendaries Account-bound on Use

Posted by: Xae Isareth.1364

Xae Isareth.1364

Well, why not?

Legendaries takes months and months of hard work to craft, and for the majority of players out there, the most likely case is that we’ll only have one Legendary.

Ever.

Now, on the other hand, it is quite common for players to have multiple characters, and often we’ll get bored of a profession and move unto another one. Thus, it just seems like a huge waste of time and effort if that legendary weapon spent months and months to craft ends up gathering dust on a character which you’ll rarely use.
