Tequatl was a direct response to calls to make world bosses more challenging, rewarding, and with noticeable fail consequences. It didn’t work and really stands as a monument to why you can’t have challenging world bosses.
Warriors need a nerf really, the amount of heals you can pump out just isn’t right.
The biggest problem we got is that the the living story is so disjointed that it doesn’t progress her as a character.
Theres one very ‘dark’ bit in GW2. There was a heart task which asked you to rescue Seraph soldiers and kill Risen grubs. You’re like ‘what Risen grubs, I don’t see any.’
You find soldiers laying unconscious on the ground and go up to res them…… and, I’ll leave that for you to guess.
I’m just wondering what’s up with the lame voice to the trailer.
No need for an echo-spooky voice.
I guess it’s supposed to sound like a Krait Seawitch.
Not really. Mesmers already have 2 skills like that, Null Field and Power Cleanse, and those aren’t even healing skills. Guardians can also group cleanse with PoV.
You gotta also remember that this is a healing skill, and you can only have one of those. You can’t just pop your main source of healing whenever you feel like it, and you’ll have to give up the benefits of another healing skill to use it (eg Warriors would have to give up their precious OP Healing Signet).
that just proves why its OP
.. its universal, so everyone just pops that and woop… mesmers become even more useless.
Don’t want to sound like a total whine. Just trying to provide feedback stating that the general idea of the skill sounds a bit overpowered and making certain other classes/spells pointless rather then this spell adding something renewing. I hope the release will prove me wrong
First of all, Mesmers aren’t just there to condition cleanse, that’s actually mainly the job of PoV Guardians amongst other things.
And like I was saying before, you don’t just pop your healing skill to get rid of some conditions unless it’s THAT urgent. Also, you’ll have to give up other benefits for it, and I can’t think of any Warrior who would give up Heing Signet for that.
I’ve always been quite interested in the Krait. Every other race apart from the Dragons have some sort of reason to kill, destroy or war on someone else, may I be vengeance, power, domination or land.
The Krait seems to just kill just because they want to, you never even get a slight impression why they do the things they do.

I’m just concerned that many existing builds have very little choice. For example, of you’re a Guardian with an AH+PoV build, you’re going to fill your utility bar with shouts. At the momens, there’s only 4 shouts to choose from, and Save Yourselves! can be very risky to use in such a build and arguably doesn’t benefit from AH much. So you’re basically left with 3.5 shouts to choose from…. Which isn’t exactly a lot.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t be able to get Ascended weapons in WvW or that WvW has very lacklustre rewards at the moment.
I’m saying that WvW is balanced around huge fights and not small skirmishes. At least it was initially, not sure about why we got this bloodlust mechanic in place now.
Aldo, fights that come down to the wire happens so rarely that it’s pretty much negligible, even in havoc teams. I can count the number of times where I’ve had a small skirmish with an equal number of people on each side on one hand, and half the time there we get interrupted halfway with reinforcements.
To be honest, Ascended gear makes pretty much no difference in WvW. The game mode has so many forms of imbalance that adding a minuscule stat difference changes nuts all.
>10% is not minuscule, then add in asc armor and its greater. Depending on how you play it can make a difference.
It’s just over 5% for the weapon. The numbers of players on each side is never even to begin with so the other Zerg having 1 more person for every 20 you got already cancels out that difference.
WvW is a war, not a small skirmish.
Hmmm, the thing about reward systems in this game is that…… It’s different. In dungeons, normal MMOs would give you the dungeon hear we got as rare drops from the boss. We get them as a fixed reward after doing a certain number of runs.
This has the huge advantage of eleminating RNG, but there needs to be something which gives you the excitement if looting a boss’s corpse. I think the new TA path is going on the right direction, by giving unique skins as RNG drops as well as fixed token rewards.
DEs ate a whole different issue though. I think you should get Ascended materials for crafting armour from doing a certain number of DEs per day per area, and a different material for finishing meta events.
In the ‘Whats to Come in 2013’ article, we were promised new skills and traits were going to be added on a regular basis. It’s nearing November, devs, can we get an update on what’s happening?
Are being postponed due to all the existing balance problems?
Have you done all the content? If so and you don’t feel like repeating stuff, try a new game
I know which one is more fun, for me, and that’s definitely the Warrior. My preconceptions were that a Guardian is just a wimpy version of the Warrior, and I was right. Why serve in Heaven when you can rule in Hell etc.
Warrior:
-amazing traits
-fun skills
-awesome elites
-good mobility
-all weapons are funGuardian:
-depressingly dull traits
-slow skills
-useless elites
-poor mobility
-all weapons are tedious and boring
Idk, its up to personal taste. I found Warrior traits to be really boring, because they’re almost all just basically stat increases of one form or the other. Pretty much all Warriors use Warbanner because of how useful it is, but it certainly isn’t ‘fun’ to use due to a whooping 240 sec CD.
Guardian traits on the other hand, are very very interesting. An example being the trait that turns consecrations into ground targeting skills. They often massively change the way you play or how a mechanic works, leading to a lot of diversity. Whilst the elites are not as powerful as Warbanner, they’re more fun to use personally.
Although, exotics are VP as well and required a certain amount of grind to obtain too.
That statement would only be accurate, for me, if:
1) you defined the act of leveling a character as “grind.” By the time I reached level 80 I had acquired, through the act of leveling (basic playing through the content), sufficient in game currency to purchase exotics.
2) By, “certain amount of grind,” you meant zero grind.
Except that when I hit level 80:
I had not done any dungeons = no tokens for armor. Dungeons generally aren’t my thing, so I don’t do them.
I had not been saving karma = not enough for a set, not to mention temples on AR are rarely open. I’d been spending right right along on cooking stuff, and leveling some of my armor pieces. Of course I don’t play hours and hours a day, nor did I always do dailies, so I did not have the huge cache of karma like so many. I would have needed to go farm karma, and then hunt down and open temple to purchase this set.
I had not been building my crafting along the way = I could not make my own set.
and I had all of 5 gold, which was not enough to purchase a full set (of exotics).
You can get rares/exotics from:
-Dungeon vendors
-Karma
-Crafting
-Map exploration
-WvWing
-Doing world bosses gives you 1 rare guaranteed per boss killed
-Mystic forging junk drops (although admittedly, thats a bad one)
-Just as drops
I mean, they really can’t do more except just shoving it in your face.
To be honest, Ascended gear makes pretty much no difference in WvW. The game mode has so many forms of imbalance that adding a minuscule stat difference changes nuts all.
I’d roll a Mesmer or Ele first personally, those 2 classes are probably the most unique classes in the game and in MMOs in general. Mesmers in PvP especially.
I wanna play as a skritt :I
So I can go ‘haha you ran from skritt!’ in WvW.
Or how about quaggan? Quaggan soccer would be much more entertaining than Asuran soccer.
Quaggan thieves will pretend to be backpacks and sneak up on your back instead of stealthing. You’ll be like ‘hold on a minute I never bought a b-’ stab
I just think they;re making stuff too fast. Good quality content takes time, so I can almost bet that there’s some living story content like this one where they just go ‘well screw it, big patch coming later, don’t have time for this’ and just slap some stuff together and call in an update.

I can never understand why would people tweet all that crud on Twitter… or why would anyone even use Twitter for that matter.
The game needs to improve in mechanics by alot to face new mmo’s, anyone paying atention in any of the future releases developments know what im talking about.
To be honest, when I look at the releases for next year, all I see is WoW-in-space, Skyrim which makes you pay $60 for the game AND $15 dollars a month, and a really promising EQ game…which won’t come out until Half Life 3 is out.
Oh, and the other bunch of games which can simply be categorised under ‘Korean’.
@ above its not impossible if they tried. RuneScape has been effectively doing this whole ‘living’ world thing for 12 years, the idea is nothing new.
It might be that they got, what 2 people? On the balance team and they also for reasons I cannot comprehend, do not balance PvP and PvE separately. Even low-tier F2P games balance PvP and PvE differently.
^ you see this is the problem, half the time classes in this game make absolutely no sense. Warriors are never supposed to be as to heal anywhere close to Guardians, or bunk nearly as well, because that’s what makes Guardians Guardians, that’s what they sacrificed all that attack power for.
Anet needs to sort balant imbalances like that out before even thinking about going eSports, people cannot feel competitive in a game where balance is this broken.
As a Pve ’er my main problem with the game is how broken Risk vs. Reward is. The fact that you make equal if not more money running in a champ train over running the most difficult content (arah/48+ fractals) blows my mind.
We need INSTANCED elite content as well. PvE is way to easy right now.
This is my biggest concern with PvE as well. They do seem to be rectifying it though, like adding Aether weapons to TA Aether Path.
The champ trains I feel are more of a player-exploit than a failure of game mechanics. Although I think there needs to be much more incentives to revisit an area and do DEs. E.g. Important skills or traits which can only be obtaibed through points for doing a specific area’s events.
^what the crud am I seeing?
Even if those warriors can’t DPS for crud, that kind of bunkering should not happen. Normally I’m very much against nerfs, but Warriors need a serious nerf.
The information on ESO is very limited.
The idea of a class free RPG is a working concept, and it can be incredibly fun. And a nightmare to balance.
There’s a really old and niche game called Mabinogi. If you can look past it’s rather silly art style, ut has probably the best ‘clkitten’ combat system I’ve ever seen, and it’s very very well balanced.
At least when I played it years and years ago.
WvW is PvP. You’re clearly fighting against other players in WvW.
Tell me something then. What is point of retaliation in PvE? To minorly annoy the enemy like confusion?
Nope. And while we’re at it… retaliation needs to be nerfed for the very reason you want aegis buffed.
I would say it needs a minor reworking and not an actual hard nerf. A lowering of the number of retal ticks on AoE would suffice imo.
I think that’s a part of a wider issue really. Anet for whatever reason refuses to balance the game separately for PvP and PvE. Things like retaliation are massively decastating in PvP but are borderline useless in PvE.
I hope you’re not referring to pve, because aegis is practically op already.
I was actually. Aegis is supposed to block one attack, not a part of one attack. 1 second isn’t exactly enough for you to go on a rampage and wreck everything on godmode, I was intending it to simply be able to do what it was supposed to do, which the mechanic isn’t doing at the moment.
Totally, absolutely, 100% agree.
But only if we give the WARRIOR easy access to aegis with low CD, otherwise it would be unfair.
I know right, they need stealth as well, so they can backstab people with a greatsword.
I think Aegis should give you 1 second of invulnerability when it’s removed. Why?
Because a lot of skills hit multiple times in one attack. This completely destroys the point of Aegis.
Your opinions?
Class balance to me is of two things:
1) when any 2 classes meet 1v1, each has an equal chance of winning.
2) each class is unique. …^this is not balance.
We can’t expect every single class to have an equally chance of winning. Several builds are suited to beat/counter some other builds, although some may disagree… Like the old “hey i was running a zerker build and i was pwnd in 3 hits – nerf pls…”
Balance to me is that every class, with the appropriate set of builds can counter every other class builds when 1-1. Also, the survival and killing speed should be symmetric. (classes that can survive to 3 players hitting, shouldn’t be able to kill all the 3 easilly and vice versa!!!)…
That Zerker will be 3-hit, but equally, he can 3 hit his opponent. That’s what I meant by an ‘equal’ chance. A rock paper scissors style of combat is a type of balance but I my opinion bad game design. It’s not fun knowing that your enemy beat you not because he was better, but because he simply had a build that countered yours.
It’s probably because it’s an action game. I came over from Vindictus so I actually think this game is a lot easier.
Class balance to me is of two things:
1) when any 2 classes meet 1v1, each has an equal chance of winning.
2) each class is unique. It brings something to the table that no other class can. A perfect example of not being ‘unique’ is basically how Warriors work at the moment. They can party-support, CC, heal, and DPS, whilst being basically king of all trades, master of all, which breaks the uniqueness of other classes.
Because taken in the context of this quote chain, if a class is designed to favour an armour type, then it would be better to use that armour type by design.
It might be not the best build for a single target DD, but depending on the combination you choose, you could be an unstoppable AoE tank, gaining tons of xp while killing hordes of mobs simultaniously.
The box, think outside of it.
It was quite a specific ESO-related comment. I was commenting on how their design philosophy was actually quite restrictive.
Elder scrolls online will make it able for you to wear any armor you want and any weapons you want, however the class you choose will favour some armor type or some weapon type. Such as nightblade (thief/rogue) which will favour daggers and leather/medium armor above heavier armor or weapons.
I think this is what people want, that or new better skins for medium and light armor – and medium is really S hhhhhhhhhhhhh it.That’s pretty much the same thing as having class armour restrictions. If leather is better on a thief than light or heavy, why would anyone use the latter two?
I dunno. Just think outside the box. People got way too streamlined in things like RPG nowadays.
Imagine to create a character the way you want. There will be trait-offs, but a fireball wielding knight with heavy armor sounds cool sort of.It would be cool, but it would also be a rubbish build.
How would you know?

What I got out of ESO’s dev talks was that yes, you can be a magical knight or a heavy theif, and it would be fun; but magic would be still be best used by an actual mage so in a perfect min-maxing party, you won’t see magic warriors.

The problem is that what can they communicate?
One, they might not even be sure if they want to stick to the manifesto themselves. Game deving is often a trial and error process.
Two, anything they say will likely be met with rage and complaints.

Silver League EU: definitely not UW.
Warriors are OP as crud. Their high HP makes them even more tankier than Guardians, their damage is insane, they can remove conditions just as well as Guardians on themselves, and can also chain-stun you to stupid.
I don’t even know how did Anet let the class become like that. WvW may as well stand for Warrior vs Warrior at the moment.
The massive difference here is that in many games, you NEED BiS gear to access some content, or at least most parties would kick you in sight if you joined w/o them.
There’s nothing here where there’s a BiS gear check apart from very high level fractals, which are just repeated content anyways.
1) No, not really. Doing something with current lands keeps activity within the game even. Expanding maps causes player spread and content degeneration. It’s not a good thing at all (just look at Outland and the Wrath zone from WoW as examples of such).
Yeah, because they’re totally not deserted due to the fact that they are old content that isn’t at the level cap.
Honestly, spreading the userbase isn’t a good justification for content stagnation.
Exactly, the only reason they are deserted is because thete’s no reason to go back to them. Now if we add very important skills and traits which can only be unlocked by doing content in each area, then they won’t be deserted as long as we get a constant flow of new players.
I’ll mail you a mini Queen Elizabeth.
They randomly drop in the Lab. I got one as well, not sure from what though.
GettIng Dusk is purely a cosmetic thing. I don’t see why that’s different to what they promised.
Getting Dusk is, but getting Twilight is not. Twilight has higher stats than an exotic.
I very much doubt people get Legendaries for the stats. You can max out every profession to 500 with a fortune to spare with the money needed to get one.
its not that cheap to get ascended weapons though. For me im going for a legendary and im not even attempting to craft at all because of the cost. I mean its like 150g per profession and i would need two of them. Weapons for my 3 main characters would be liek 50g per not including grind for dragonite and i would end up probably getting 12 weapons…..its very expensive and grindy.
3×150+12*50=900g, less if you’re patient and rank on Ascended mats.
Sunrise costs about 1.5kg to craft, excluding the shards, world comp, and other stuff; and that’s just one weapon.
I don’t think anyone would go for Legendaries unless they wanted the skins.
If there where no classes at first you will see a high mix of chose but over time that mix will fall off into specialization and in time you will find every one playing about the same thing.
In a game like ESO your going to see one class / races / guild chose over all others in time. In a way you cant play the game the way you want to because a lot of your ability are going to be tied to your races and guild. Mind you there are still classes in that game but there is a great deal more openness for your ability chose.
In a game like GW2 you need some type of class to keep a stander to but in a game like GW2 you can see something more on the lines of sub classes. The thing is in having ability tied to classes you can still look the way you want to and be the race you want to etc…
So in a way its makes your “Hero” that you play more able to chose if you have a class system with out means of making say only such race can be such class.
That’s where balance patches come in.
