The fight is only hard because you have to depend on random players and afk’ers and because it is impossible on low population servers. If this was an instanced raid, it would be faceroll easy.
Most populated servers:
Blackgate
Sanctum or Rall
Jade Quarry
Tarnished Coast
The rest are pretty much med/low pop.
None of my friends has any interest in returning once they find out they missed so much content that they will most likely never see again. Telling them there is new content every 2 weeks makes no difference it seems.
Exactly, once they find out they missed so much, they are more likely not to come back. But if they find out there are awesome updates that they can partake in they will be more likely to come back. It is just common sense.
There’s actually more people playing now than at launch. Sorry your guild failed.
If you think that, I got a couple of bridges I want to sell you. That is actually impossible, and just isn’t true. SPvP is dead. WvW is slowly dying.
At least 10 servers didn’t have the population to do the Taco fight. My server rallied people and couldn’t get 50 people together during Primetime.
Population has definitely dropped in GW2, but no one knows how much. I am pushing for server mergers on low population servers or do what ESO will do an do mega servers. Or the game will suffer badly.
In terms of patches, the 2 week mini-games are terrible. Players would much rather have 1-2 month waits for patches and meaningful patches. Give us an awesome dungeon after a 2 month update. Don’t give us a mini-game after 2 weeks, that just doesn’t feel like an MMO to me.
Give us something like the Fractals, that will have longevity. Not SAB which was fun the first time around, then the shiny wore off.

Pretty much agree with everything Adian said. Before class balance should even be addressed, core fundamental game design elements need to change.
This is why many other action MMOs make you stay still while casting or using an ability. You are locked in place during the animation. Games like Tera and Neverwinter do that. They do it mainly due to risk/reward because without that mechanic combat becomes a mindless click fest.
Fighting games also do that. You are locked in place during the animation. Because you invest in that ability and you go for it. During that time you are vulnerable which is how combat should be.
“At low population times”
Every time is low population time. I play during Primetime and queue into the same 4-5 people and almost half the time it is 5v4 and queue still takes like 5-8 minutes.
This is probably the worst testament to match making I’ve ever been a part of in this game.
How on earth does anet allow a match to start 0v5??
I don’t get why players don’t understand this. There aren’t enough players queuing so they allow for this unbalanced matches.
This whole MLG thing seems like an advertisement that conveniently landed at the start of the free trial. I mean Arenanet paid the prize money, MLG didn’t.
I would have faith that GW2 would be an eSport if there was an interest in SPvP, but NO ONE plays it. There are like 100 players at any given time queuing. Even on Twitch the SPvP channels get no more than 200 viewers.
There is no interest in SPvP both in terms of GW2 players and even viewers. What makes you think it even has a chance with viewers that don’t even play the game?
The eSports market is flooded with good eSports games. There is zero chance GW2 has any traction in eSports. Today was an advertisement and nothing more. Just like when PlanetSide 2 was on MLG.

MMOs are not for you. And yes when Anet said “Non-MMO players will like this MMO” they lied. It comes with everything from other MMOs. It has the grind, the dailies, gear progression etc.
I think they make backpacks because it is the easiest thing to do, basically a shortcut. Why make armors for all races when you can just make one backpack?
Nothing lonely about it, about half of GW2 servers are low population in terms of active players. Not only do we get crushed in WvW weekly but we have to now get crushed in PvE.
Generally in GW2 you don’t need to be in a high population server, but this event showed me that ET is not “High” by any means. It is a low population server that is labeled as “High” for some odd reason.
Darkhaven is probably one of the lowest population servers. Here is a link for your motivation…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B80aE_q37eUAre you simply a follower or a leader who can rally your server?
Darkhaven is 15th/16th in terms of population (roughly). There are servers in significantly worse shape than Darkhaven. After rallying people on ET we had about 50 people lol
Maybe you should type in German? Since it is the majority as you said. Instead of the majority trying to mold in to fit the minority?
The thing is he is one of the higher “populated” servers, Ehmry Bay is probably top 10 in terms of population. Now think of all the servers that are less populated than his. He had trouble doing it on his, but there are servers with less players.
On ET literally 35 people showed up the first night. When we knew it was impossible we just guested to T1 servers, and that created a chain reaction of overflows etc.
This event basically showed players that Anet’s server classifications are BG. Not all servers are “High” like they claim. There are many servers that are “Low” and “Medium”. There is a huge difference between ET compared to EB as an example.
I agree with him on that, individual servers should be able to do it themselves, so they should scale these events to 30/40/50+ players instead of 80+ players.
(edited by Xcom.1926)
The event was terrible on low population servers when 40 people show up. So if they can scale it for 40+ players, yes. If they can’t, then no.
And this is why they need a user friendly queue system that does all the work for us. The current implementation is pretty bad and will suck for both elite level players and new players.
Elite players will find it frustrating. And new players will be scared to use it.
The LFG tool is meant to bring people together, to give convenience to PUGs.
The current implementation of the tool will definitely not bring players together. It will divide them even further. The elitists will want only elite level players. Noob players will either want beginner groups or some might want to be carried. It is going to create niches within the community.
And this is why something like the dungeon queue system was created. That queue system is more likely to bring players together. It can queue elitists and noobs in the same dungeon, and the elitist can’t scream “I wanted this specifically”. And the noob won’t be scared to queue.
And this is exactly why the queue system withe gear checks was created.
I wish there was a queue.
I’m do kitten glad there is no kitten queue !
this type of lfg system is the best i’ve seen as far a lfg systems go.
putting me in a queue deprives me of joining with people i want to join and instead joins me with every tom bob and mary hell no !!!! big NO to queue’s and automatic dungeon teleporting !
You can join people you want to join without this tool. I don’t see your point. Also, what happens when there are 100 people trying to do a certain thing. Are you going to scroll across all 100 of them to find “the group you want to join”?
I am not complaining about the tool itself, I like it. But I rather have it be more user friendly.
The more I think about ascended stuff, the less I like it. I still don’t see the whole doom and gloom aspect, but that’s another story.
Don’t think everyone is doom and glooming. My concern is the slippery slope, I will forgive for this one. But next time I am out.
Gamebattles also supports Runescape? WTF
I don’t think we will see mounts, unfortunately. They could have made tons of money with mounts, but for some odd reason they designed the world in a way that made mounts almost useless.
I would still like it to even ride around the city, but it won’t happen.
I like melee in this game. Ranged sucks, because strafing in this game is terrible, and kiting with the combat slow is also terrible. I played a engineer character yesterday after a year and realized how much combat sucks as ranged.
A problem I don’t think Anet will fix anytime soon. There are many servers with abysmal active players. After the Taco event, I moved this account to Blackgate from my dead server.
I don’t think the tiers will end, there is no way in hell. The problem they saw when they realized the game needed another tier, is a problem that occurs again, eventually. Not sure how fast though.
This is my other account and I don’t even have a 80 on this one and I have access to LFG. So I assumed everyone had it.
I wish there was a queue.
Can anyone explain why strafing is so slow? Is there a reasoning for it? It is such a bad mechanic to have. The combat and movement feels terrible because of it.
I think I might just transfer to a T1 server, after this event I realized how much it sucks being on a low population server. My main is on DR (different account) and it can take me hours to get a group sometimes. Oh and we also get destroyed in WvW all the time.
You are more than welcome to guest on servers like Anvil Rock, Henge, Devona’s Rest, Eredon’s Terrace and see how many people are there. It wasn’t packed before the event, so can’t blame guesting.
And here is the thing, you can cry about it on the forums all you want. But people will guest on the T1 servers to try and do it. If ANet adds more events that requires 100 people, keep expecting it.
Nice job! I believe you had someone from your server asking for BG to help in another post. Looks like you were able to get organized and get it done. Did you guys use 1 group or 2 for dps?
Don’t think BG helped them though, maybe a few. Not sure.
Can anyone explain why it doesn’t have like a queue system like in sPvP? You solo queue for a dungeon and it puts you in a group?
So BG groups are going around killing him on different servers?
Everyone on T1 loves it, surprise surprise.
Too bad the fight sucks on low population servers because it is impossible, if it scaled for players below 80, I would be excited.
It’s interesting. Probably not very useful when it comes down to the fact that most of the people I know who enjoy the game have stopped posting here altogether, because they’ve been attacked by people who don’t enjoy the game.
That argument can go both ways. Even when players have valid criticisms like this gear grind one, they are attacked.
Nope that wouldn’t work, it needs to scale based on the boss/spawn’s power.
Oh thank you Blackgate saviors, because of you we low population servers can do this.
SRF is probably Seafarer’s Rest (EU). You should probably separate it by NA and EU on different sections, but it is up to you.
I will tell you what is happening. People on high population servers have no issues. People on low/mid population servers have no chance unless we get help.
Yeap it is demoralizing when we have to do this with 30-40 people. People just quit and won’t be checking for this event again.
That picture is the perfect example of what I am talking about. People on servers like Blackgate are hating on low populated servers for guesting there. But look at our situation, we want to have fun too. But we will never ever be able to down it without help or without proper scaling.
It’s understandable they want to push it out slowly and polish things. But a LFG tool is kinda meaningless if not enough people participate on it.
Say 1000 people in BETA.
Half is offline = 500
Half in EU = 250
1/5 need to lfg = 50
1/10 want to play the same dungeon = 5
You can find exactly 5 people for your party lol.I’m fairly certain it’s more than 1000. And it wouldn’t be split between NA and EU like that. That wouldn’t make any sense.
It would be nice if Anet told us their roll out plan numbers though.
I’m half trolling, but I never met a person that is in. Below is more guessing:
According to chinese number, 2.5mil players in a week
/7 = 357142 per day
IF 1/50 is in beta (which I don’t think is too low from observation): 357142/50 = 7142
Still isn’t that many.I think they have to split EU/NA because of how party system works.
There is no way the number is that high when so many servers are absolutely desolate like mine (ET)
It was 2.5 million “hits” not players. So if you log into the game 10 times during the week you are counted 10 times. So let us say 200,000 players log into the game 10 times during a week it would be 2 million.
Regardless, as the above poster said, we just can’t divide players by 7 and get a daily number due to duplication.
The game would have been in so much better shape if it was released with LFG, had the boss revamp at launch instead of now and had improvements to sPvP including features like ratings and matchmaking.
Don’t mind if it is late, but they should let us know the status.
Oh and I don’t buy the “my friend has it” or “my guild mate has it”, unless you have it and can prove it. I don’t believe it.
I never read a negative thread post. I will delete. However it does seem that your posts are very one sided and you constantly rush to defend Anet in any decision that they make. I want GW2 to be the greatest fuxking game of all time. That’s why I post on these forums.
First, I’ve complained about numerous things, including RNG in cash boxes, content coming out too frequently and various other bits (such as the personal story changing from solo to five man for Arah).
That doesn’t mean I can’t disagree with people who make sweeping generalizations that are simply wrong, or people who come here just to bash the game without any constructive comments to back it up.
You don’t know anything about me.
But you are going out of your way to defend them on this. Apparently a lot of people do think that they said there would be no gear tiers. And their opinions are valid, what is the point in trying to say they are wrong?
I can understand that you might not agree with people here, but you are going out of your way and trying to dismiss everyone’s opinions on this after people have provided quotes and articles and videos defending their stance.
I mean you were doing this two months ago:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Gear-Grind-or-People-leave/page/3
This is what I keep saying but apparently all is ok if the people on the high population servers are happy. These things probably need to scale.
Well if that happened it would become a raid, right? That seems like a bad word around here.
