DPS Training

Honestly while they maybe a nice idea in practice a lot of the time people have issues more so with preforming their rotations when they have all the other fight specific things going on like Cannons on sabetha as an example.
When it comes down to things in terms of “meeting dps checks” more often than not dps isn’t the thing that causes failures and more often than not it’s failing at mechanics.
I have been on far too many pug runs when my guild isn’t running where in which we have fine dps overall on gorseval but then when it comes to the charged spirits people break down run around a lot and spend over 2 mins on it because of one reason or another then have no issue meeting the dps check later for the world eater.
Not to mention the fact that bosses like Vg move so frequently unless you actively are invuln’ing the greens that even if players can pass a dps check on a non moving target they will fail at using skills because the boss will walk out of it.
I personally only really see the dps area good for applying spread sheet idea’s in a controlled environment.

Well I’m confused now … on gw2 wiki it says there isn’t any cap for reward track, but I got daily cap already.
I’m playing PvP Skyhame map unranked all the time because it seems kinda okay for me, considering that my PvP rank is only 7.

The amount of rewards for a track has no cap/day.
However if you hit “Play” or Hot join where you can come and go at any time you have a cap, Both Unranked and Ranked have no cap on the reward track progress per day but require queuing for so it can take some time to get into matches.

Most wanted profession in fractals and raids

Druids in general are brought more for the damage buffs than their own damage, though they can still pull out moderate dps. In raids depending on the group they will bring more healing or more damage depending on how well their team can handle damage.
Since you don’t want to have multiple sets of gear you’ll probably want to go with a tempest since some groups expect a chronomancer to have a set of commanders gear and others expect you to have a assassin’s/berserker mix with a toughness infusion or food thrown in for tanking.
Tempest all you need is a set of berserker’s gear for generally all the current bosses.

As for high level fractals you get more than enough healing out of the heal skills on ele and chrono as it is to the point that the druid is seldom if ever really healing. And you get more milage out of protection dodging blind or aegis than you do out of healing damage.

Magnetite: Per-Wing Cap

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Xcorpdog.2840

Xcorpdog.2840

While I personally would like for the cap to be higher, given that I barely need ascended on my main account and only really needed it for my alt, magnetite is relatively easy to get. You can get 6 mini pet rolls along side weapon box rolls, and with the case of Matthias you can get both a box and skin drop from what I have seen. Meaning as it stands with max rolls someone could walk away with 820 magnetite shards in a given week assuming all bosses drop like Matthias.
On a related note I infrequently get to talk to a friend who’s a QA dev who works with the raids, and he said the reason they didn’t raise the cap was so that players wouldn’t have to repeat content, and was unable to make a comment about what they will do when raid wing 3 comes out.

Questions on condi ranger

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Xcorpdog.2840

Xcorpdog.2840

Condi druid is better. It doesn’t have the dps of an engi, but it does have spotter, frost spirit, glyph of empowerment, and grave of the land.

So it brings a heck of a lot more with it than an engi does.

The Op was asking about dps and I answered with regards to dps. I didn’t say at any point that engineer was better at buffing than a druid.

Questions on condi ranger

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Xcorpdog.2840

Xcorpdog.2840

Condition ranger is not as high as engineer…. not even. A poorly played engineer sure but engineer is well above condition ranger.
Condition druid does plenty more damage than normal ranger so it’s worth taking over that when all you really want is the modifiers.
Condition engineer can pull 24,000 or so dps when played correctly fully buffed.
Condition ranger on the Spotter setup pulls ~15,000 dps. With Hidden barbs it probably could hit around 18,000 depending on alacrity but you’re never going to run that trait since it’s a decent team dps loss to lose all the precision on everyone.

What is the meta roster for raids?

Xcorpdog.2840

Oh this is a great thread. Thaddeus, does it mean that if you put buffers into a separate group, they give boons to all 10 players? Am I right when I say that chrono+herald in group 3 first give boons to group 2, and then group 1, and then again group 2?

Basically I want to figure out the mechanics behind giving out boons and why to divide squad into more than 2 groups.

The reason to put the Mesmer and revenant into a separate sub group is to make it so that the Mesmer will give out the quickness more evenly. The only general problem with doing it this way say over double Mesmer is the buffs aren’t always going to spread consistently post squad swapping removal. So one run you might get 80% up time on quickness over all 10 players and other times you might get 55% up time only difference being the positioning of people on a given run.

Migraine is tedious with a bad group and easy with a good group. Eir, & Canach being the easier ones since while easier at first the end mode of Caithe is a chore and will easily wipe an unprepared group.

Sword shield for dungeons?

Sword/Shield is the best to reflect those fireballs at the weapons testing in the Molten Facility fractals. The rest take Mace, really.

I beg to differ, you can do the same with mace for blocking those, with the 3 skill. And you don’t need shield there, if you have retreat and wall with mace you can block all of them in given phase with a tiny bit of team work, or just put on focus and use shelter to cover them all solo.

Been gone a year. Last time I played mace was frowned upon and sword was praised. I still decided to built moot anyway just in case mace ever became good. So what changed while I was away to reverse the roles?

Sword and mace were always close, Mace gained a damage modifier and sword lost one shifting the gap heavily into mace’s favor, I wanna say it’s around 7% worse dps than mace on any build atm.

Raid Healing Role: Healing Turret vs Med Kit?

in Engineer

Posted by: Xcorpdog.2840

Xcorpdog.2840

Medkit costs engineer basicly all of their damage for some poor healing.

And with regards to it versus healing turret, healing turret has solid regen uptime 12/21s assuming you blew up the turret, higher if you pickup. And you can’t make an arguement for the throw skills on medkit when you could blast atleast 2 times in your own water field for a base 2.6k extra for every ht cast. you also have the toolbet water field which can be combo’d for another 1.3k heal if timed with FT 2. And then you have to account for all of the blasts your party could put into the water fields, which can tally up fast and all of the blasts can hit up to 5 people.

When will raids stop getting support?

Xcorpdog.2840

Changing how we enter fractals or start guild missions are nice QOL improvements, but it is beginning to look more and more like no new fractals or pve guild missions will be coming with HOT – and that is very disappointing.

That means the OP is technically correct – it has been 2+ years without any real additions to those parts of the game – and now we will see an expansion with none as well.

The one thing I don’t want to see is end game become laser focused on raids, which by Anet’s own admission are only for a tiny percentage of the population.

We need some insight into what the development timeline for new guild missions and fractals looks like. That isn’t a lot to ask.

Please.

Considering how much back lash comes out when they don’t manage to meet a guess, you can’t honestly say that it’s not a lot to ask.

Yes make us run less fractal content for more rewards! that will be a great way to keep us invested and pouring more time into the game! Excellent Idea! No one wanted new fractals anyway.

For one I know from talking to some of the dev’s that they want to make more fractals but they aren’t always given the time to make them given the time they take to make, balance, & test.
As for the less time thing considering they haven’t said anything in a while about them for all we know they took the feed back played around with it and upped the number of fotm’s for the daily.
And complaining to the only dev around here, wont do much since all that does is make Cameron not want to come back.

I’m absolutely certain that a warrior running scholar runes using strength/arms/discipline instead of tactics and with burst mastery (assuming quickness is outsourced) would decimate power guardian in personal DPS.

Anyways, it’s kinda weird to make personal DPS rankings because there are so many things to take into consideration. DPS in a solo or group setting? Against something basic like a test golem, or what?

I don’t have all of the spreadsheets personally so I don’t know exactly which they take into account but from what I understand all of the numbers Dnt put out lack quickness unless otherwise on the build, could be wrong so if you wanted to count higher than normal quickness uptime people move around on the list, Ele probably gaining the most due to the high damage on fireball but that’s more so guessing.
As for the list I gave it’s based off group buffs, ie the numbers dnt generally puts out and that’s generally what people are concerned about but yes it’s not the same across the board for all content or all party sizes, like you sight warrior doesn’t really lose much of anything solo.
The more important thing generally being builds with in a class than class vs class since generally you’re more concerned with the support or control and not always the damage. (paraphrasing Nike)

And I mean no disrespect, in fact I have mad respect for your skill at the game Miku.
Side note being if you want to make a rotation/write up a rotation or point me to one I will gladly eat my words and make the personal note and change what I say to match that which is true, since I don’t really care about being right over others just being helpful.

Power Guardian
Sinister Ranger
Power Ranger
Sinister Guard
Sinister Warrior
PS/EA Power Warrior
Dps Mesmer
Necro
Reflect heavy mesmer

That’s what I remember to be the damage spreads atm. Only ones Im not sure on are ranger vs guard and mesmer vs Necro warrior since, Both Ranger and Mesmer have a lack of easily find-able dps numbers where the other classes it’s easier to find. With regards to sinister Engi and Ranger they only take that dps slot in longer fights ie over ~20s generally, which is pretty uncommon in this current burst meta so to take their spot with a grain of salt. And Sinister builds while sometimes better lose out on any real use of more burst focused skills like Icebow and Fiery Greatsword which hurts them further.
And the other side note being engineer has a bad case of vacuum bias since while it’s damage is high, it’s much much much harder to pull off than any other set up.

Well just looking at the stat differences you’re trading 548 Power for ~14% crit damage or basically trading 20% of your power for 14% more crit damage.
Both builds will reach 100% crit chance in parties but the Berserker Ele will have more overall damage than the assassin’s ele due to the greater power base, which is in part due to the fact that all of the damage mod’s on Ele scale off of power and they do nothing to crit damage which is it’s own separate set of damage.

Secondly a pve staff by in large sits in 1 attune, the main reason to ever leave fire is only to take advantage of the 20% damage mod in water but that is only with a conjure in hand, when the conjure is gone it’s back to fire.

You also want to use Air for the Glyph of Storm (Vulnerability) and Earth for Glyph of Storm (Blind) and #2 as a blast. But you usually only do one rotation each fight so the attunement reduction don’t help at all.

Yes, hence the “by in large” comment.
And bare in mind this started out as a Water vs Arcana thread, where when it comes to numbers the Water is better in terms of damage and recovering from mistakes. What keeps bothering me is people being dead set on the crit modifier in Arcana on top of thinking that just because the goal to dodge all damage means you don’t ever benefit from the healing from the water tree, which is sheer bonus on top of the better damage numbers.
Reminds me of the guardian who didn’t want to take shelter because “I don’t take damage so I don’t need damage mitigation.”

PVE staff ele spec

Xcorpdog.2840

In PvE, being able to mitigate/eliminate the damage is preferred over recovery. Yes, I agree that Water has more utility in the sense of recovery (heals, cleanses, etc), but even all it doesn’t go as far as an extra dodge that you get from vigor uptime.

The same applies to Elemental Attunement and Contingency boons. 5 1/2 seconds of protection applied to the team goes much further than a splash heal on Water attunement.

The reasoning behind this is that in PvE you’re generally looking to dodge the bigger, yet slower hits. Thus, in instances such as high level fractals recovery techniques aren’t as useful as Ele’s tend to go down one-shot from just about anything with Defiant.

However, if you’re in a situation where you know you’re going to running into a lot of conditions Water works much better over Arcana.

Anyways, OP is wanting to know damage.

Water works best under certain conditions and will generally require a more skilled player to make sure they are able to keep above thresholds. Arcana, realistically, won’t offer as much damage but is generally easier to maintain the damage bonus.

Look not trying to make a fight, but if in pve you want to avoid damage as a staff ele you don’t need an extra dodge all you have to do is take half a step back from max melee and suddenly all you have to dodge is 1 aoe every 10s at most while still being in buff range, there is no NEED for vigor. Vigor can be helpful in bad parties but it’s still not that great, and you said that an ele will die anyways in one hit, so you can’t also make the case for getting more boons on hit because those boons don’t help you when you are dead, it’s the same issues we have with auras in pve that require you to be hit. As for a “splash” heal an ele can pump with 0 healing power up to 9k health into everyone in the party allowing for a full reset for most players that got hit, also allowing players to more often keep up the high health modifiers.

-Arcane Brilliance is the best heal in terms of usage.
-Ether renewal is the best heal in condition heavy fights
-Glyph of elemental harmony is the best burst heal for ele in any fight with low mob counts.
-Signet heal is only really good for dagger for eles due to the other weapons attack rates.
  • Is it worth it to get signet of fire for its passive ?
-Yes, but if your party can not for some reason maintain fury, arcane wave is better if you are running staff but for dagger or LH builds you should have plenty of blast anyways.
  • What is the best elite skill for zerker ?
-Firery Great Sword is the most useful fight to fight to fight for damage
-Glyph of elementals is useful for a few fights, Earth ele makes a good aggro tank/body blocker in some fights, the fire/air ele are good for damage if you have it on, and the water ele can be used to for party wide spike heals in certain fights where there is a long of small damage being tossed around like SeP1 when you kill both bosses.
-Tornado is only used in fights where you can chain knockdown a boss like the husk in Coe and is only used when the boss cant die in a sanctuary from the guardian.
  • What are your thought about my skills/traits ?
I would take Glyph of storms over arcane wave.
    Icebow over lightning hammer.

As far as non-DPS traits are concerned Water is more reactive with its heals and cleanses to where Arcana is more proactive through its Boon granting, Shielding, and lower attunement cd’s.

So, to answer the OP. Water offers more damage, but I would still recommend Arcana to Ele’s for higher utility.

Higher utility…
Water has,
Aura Share for reflects when needed,
Healing on water attune,
Increased outgoing healing to allies (15%),
Condition cleanse on regen as needed, or
Flat healing when you rotate to water. (soothing mist)
And allows for the use of water attune without or with much less dps loss while supporting allies.

Arcane has,
Vigor on crit, (Selfish)
Fury on attune, (selfish)
Aoe boons on attune on short durations,
A free arcane shield when health goes from 25%< to <25% but doesn’t proc if you would go down, (Selfish)
-1.5s of attune recharge, (Somewhat allows for more support but not enough to offset much)
Boons when hit, (Selfish and somewhat meh, only good ones being earth and air)
or a 10% res speed buff,
15% increase boon duration,
a 2~22% damage mod, (This being the best reason for the line.)
or a 10% crit mod on a 50% uptime or 100% uptime at a 9% crit loss or worse power loss for assassin’s gear,
or a small spell on dodge.

If a party can maintain 10~11 boons on the eles for more than 50% of the fight duration then yes arcane is better by far but that is anything but realistic. (assuming fights of 20s or longer) If you can’t rely on party members for things then arcane is ok… mainly because it lets you take vigor at a smaller dps loss than it would to be dead in a party where you constantly have to dodge. But the arcane is not higher utility it has a few good selfish buffs but these don’t help your team beyond keeping you up in some niche spots.

Long anwser is it depndes on the party warriors are great for offensive buffs while a guard is better for defensive buffs. If you want to nit pick 1-2 warriors is always better than 2 guards or 1 guard and a amesmer just due to better synergy generaly speaking.
And end of the day it’s up to you as the player to make the class shine a bad warrior or guard with a good build is worse than a good player with a bad build.

Does anyone have any proof that pve staff fire/air/water does more dps than fire/air/arcane? You are trading a conditional 10% modifier for grp fury, 150 ferocity (at a 90% crit rate this is about equivalent to a 9% unconditional modifier), quicker attunement cd, and about 8 stacks of burning.

So where to begin,
Crit damage % does not equal a damage mod, crit damage scales linearly while damage modifiers scale multiplicatively.
Secondly a pve staff by in large sits in 1 attune, the main reason to ever leave fire is only to take advantage of the 20% damage mod in water but that is only with a conjure in hand, when the conjure is gone it’s back to fire. So not having that water mod means only fire or less damage.
Arcana at best has a 6~12% realistic modifier on it where water has a 10% mod for health and. 20% mod while in water while also helping with vuln upkeep. Arcana is good for moments where a player can not maintain their health but that’s not really the goal of a dps build anyways since they are designed around people maintaining scholar anyways.

I like all the engi love but you have to think about practicality, while engi has a high potential many (including myself) don’t reach the actual potential. it’s possible, it’s not out of reach, but in a practical sense we drop quite a bit. That said Engi is still high, you can do great damage without perfection, it’s just worth noting that optimal isn’t likely.

Also, an Engi solo beat the Ele solo of bloomhunger, yay reflects

Take a group of mediocre PUGs and the ease of Staff Ele or GS warrior is likely going to win out. In a speed run where everyone is performing near optimal and yes Engi will skyrocket. It’s just not something you should count on being realistic. A good-great engi will be awesome, a mediocre engi vs a mediocre warrior and the warrior will win out. Generally speaking Staff Ele/GS War/DDThief are all pretty easy great damage. The next level would be Guard/Engi for mediocre players.

I say this because I don’t think people should adhere to the possible when PUGing, just the possible when optimizing, and don’t assume anyone will optimize if you don’t know them and how good of a player they are.

You forgot ranger Jerus, or is pressing 5 and 2 on long bow and swaping to auto with a sword to hard? Snark level aside for rangers, If you wana see big numbers easily staff ele is the way to go, followed by thief (if you want to learn how to stealth), and GS camping warrior (not good personal DPS but really good might stacking).

Last I checked on warrior Gs camp has always been their best overall dps and the only reason in pve, for using Axe/mace on swap was for the group wide buff via the vuln it would generate to make up for the loss of dps and might from swap. Warrior still has pretty good personal dps all things considered, without looking it up I want to say Nike(Dnt for those who don’t know) posted something of a ~100k Gs 2 in a run so ya know around 2/3 of a Icebow 4.

Oh and ranger meta has shifted away from the longbow in favor of Gs Sw/a atm so no more lb busts, at least not in most cases, it’s not bad just there are better things atm.

While your grain of salt is always healthy, with everything…. really everything.
The OP is actually asking about their relation in speed clear comps, where you don’t have to treat everyone like an npc outside of basic interaction.

Highest PvE DPS since patch?

That site is very out of date, and isn’t something that currently is being updated from what I know,

I dont have all the numbers but from what I understand right now it’s

Ele (Gets crazy high with large targets)
Engi (engi and thief being close in single target and Engi pulling ahead in groups)
Thief
Warrior(This and ranger might be flipped)
Ranger
Guard
Mesmer (bare in mind that mesmer has great skills where necro is just damage)
Necro (Close to mesmer dps, trades places with mesmer if the mesmer has to bring lots of support.)

Is Engie still high with the Grenade and Mortar Shot nerf?

Grenade nerf…. you’d have to more specific, since there haven’t been nerfs to the build since the numbers that I know of, the engi was higher with mortar but couldn’t beat a frost bow in short fights anyways.

Something else worth mentioning with engi is while they may out dps a thief, it is harder to do and a thief currently is far better at long skips than engi where stealth is needed generally speaking anyways.

Considering they don’t have a every stat set currently for the trinkets at the ascended level they dont have the same easy system to change things hence why they probably will make something different in the future, but until then nothing.

Toughness

Currently all game balance aside from exploits is balanced around the Spvp game mode, where having a bunch of toughness is very noticeable.
Given the Dev’s in charge do not want to balance for more than one mode it’s unlikely that this will change anytime soon even if they do have a balance team.

Zerker Still meta for thief?

Depends I think, due massive traits bonus in ferocity, maybe Assassin will the way to go, for condi maybe sinister. Poison and Bleeds… and Torment.. we can deal that massively I think

Unless it’s solo play, thief will pretty much never need much if any assassin’s since thief can already obtain high crit chance, coupled with party buffs can easily hit 100% crit. Berserker’s gear will still be the meta for basically every class, the only thing that might change would be gear mix and match meaning not much change on the pvp side of things.

Shiny!

I’m so excited, I forgot about having my character progress set back.

People keep mentioning a progress reset, what have I missed and when did I miss it??

Some people take that fact that if you had all skills and traits before the change but for some reason dont have enough points post change you’ll lose things with the update. But the devs stated it would be about 60 skill challenges and being lvl80 to get all of the core stuff again so really the only people who have to worry are power levelers ala Eotm or tomes that never did anything map related.

Conjure Water Ele - pve

Considering a Staff ele can use the same conjures and still push more damage and warriors will be bringing might, there is no reason for it come back to the meta. It’s not that it’s bad it’s that there are better things to run.

Edit: Plus not many ele’s would be caught without GoS nowadays.
