Hey!
After some reading around and getting some tips and pointers and so on I tried to make a build for PvE (fractals mainly) and I would like someone more experianced to take a look at it. I got the idea of trait distribution from other topics about builds but not exactly what traits would be the best pick.
I’ve also put the Superior Runes of the Pack on the armor cause they look good imo, am I wrong here? The other choice would probably be scholar but I don’t know :S
This is the build:
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-e;4RwkZ0M5JOkd0;9;4ET9E-5;025A3;05;36NW0L;1t_MTt_MTo-Fv-Ao0S;1VhVlWqXv21475230Cs1k;5F18ZF18Z;9;9;9;9;0k0;3V8k3u
Thanks in advance
Thanks for the advice guys.
The thing is I already have every other class, and their forums says pretty much the same thing, that their class is crap and gets nerfed all the time and all other classes gets buffs etc (even a bit on the warrior forum but not as much there
I’m not playing this class to be the best at stuff, it doesn’t matter that I can play my warrior and do more dmg, it’s still different gameplay, skills, wep sets and so on.
A special thanks to Arganthium, I’ll try that in sPvP for starters!
Thanks alot for your input Ghostwolf!
What would be the recommended setup of traits and gear for wvw? conditions? very defensive?
Hello!
I’m rather new to the thief class and been reading around and trying to make some builds myself but I’m having a hard time figuring out good builds for WvW, PvE and S/Tpvp.
I’m guessing that I should go full zerker for pve like any other class but what about weps and traits for all the modes, can someone shine some light on this for me?
When I look at the traitlines it’s not obvious to me what traits I should pick :S
Thanks in advance my dear thief community
Seems like a waste. With my traits, banner, precision stacks and the constant fury I got 100% crit chance all the time
I like it! put it up 1 sec before you intend to run and you get the same duration (or more). And since I mostly run with larger symbols it’s big enough so if I put it in front of me while running I will get 2 ticks (8 secs) without stopping.
As is has been said, it’s great in zergs but also if you put it down while fighting in other aspects of the game you’ll have about a minute of swiftness when that fight is over
okey, thanks. Gonna pick up some melandru’s then I think
how about 2 water 2 monk 2 travelers for the boon duration? Anyone feel that competes with melandru/soldiers?
The thing you see there is a description of the feedback spell that Medic’s Feedback creates. The trait does a feedback bubble on you when you revive someone and the “Feedback – Glamour” thing you’re looking at is only a description of the spell creating while reviving so you would understand what happens when you revive if you don’t know what Feedback is.
Well there are pretty girls, normal girls and ugly girls, and each of them can be a “real life” girl, a pseudo gamer girl who thinks she’s so nerdy and wants to make out with zelda ‘cuz he’s hot or just play farmville and stuff and there are the true gamer girls <3.
And mine is a true and pretty gamer girl
DING DING ^^ I wonder why she’s still single :P Men out there must be silly … xD
Zelda a ‘he’?
kitten it Xavi I was gonna point that out!!
Time Warp gives you 1 sec of Quickness for 10 sec for up to 5 players. Cast it on yourselves. Monsters don’t move out of it. Quickness is 50% faster actions.
What Xavi said…you can see it as 10 secs of Quickness for 5 players, aka huge boost
Question: for 30 dueling I always have a hard time choosing traits. I want Phantasmal Fury, Blade Training, Duelist’s Discipline and Empowering Mantras, which one benefits me the least when ofc using both swords and pistol?
Why not all of them? If you are in a situation that requires actual utility skills, stick with pistol traiting, and then if you just need mantras then swap out pistol traiting for empowering mantras since blade training offers 50+ precision and shorter sword CDs which is more relevant. If you want to be lazy just go fury/blade/mantras.
Good point there To elaborate my question a bit: Does the mantra trait really do that much difference? I feel like my phantasms is doing all the work for me and my dmg is trivial, maybe I’ve just missed a great part that my own char can do.
I think x/30/x/x/15 may be best post-patch. That lets you hit illusionist’s celerity, compounding power and damage based on number of charged mantras. Then you could stick 10 in domination for empowered illusions, ten in inspiration for glamour mastery and then either five more in illusions for phantasmal haste or five more in domination for dazzling for some nice vuln stacking.
The current high-end meta of 10/30/0/20/10 won’t change in any way, though considering how strong OH sword is and the fact it doesn’t interact with phantasmal haste, it makes 20 in illusions not very desirable if you’re playing optimally.
Question: for 30 dueling I always have a hard time choosing traits. I want Phantasmal Fury, Blade Training, Duelist’s Discipline and Empowering Mantras, which one benefits me the least when ofc using both swords and pistol?
I’m using a superior sigil of bloodlust on sword, and a superior sigil of strength on all offhands in my zerker-setup. I also use strength on my staff. (You could also use battle instead of strength if you switch weapons a lot in combat). That’s because as far as I know, the percentual increases from sigil of force and the like do not transfer to your phantasms, while bloodlust-stacks and might do. And since most of your damage will come from your phantasms, it makes sense to chose sigils which also affect their damage-output.
Talking about staff; I love staff while playing my condi-build and I also love it in my zerker-build in certain situations. Mainly (with zerker) for fast AoE-tagging and supporting with a bit of aegis if needed; but also for bosses where you know they will have lots of unique conditions on them. I saw my iWarlocks crit for 17k on those champion spiders at the temple of Melandru.
Can anyone confirm about the sigil transfer to phantasms? If it’s true then you got a really valid point there Saturn
I was thinking of maybe using sigil of perception on one of my weapons, but don’t know if bloodlust would be better. However I always have a hard time deciding sigils especially for a 2h weapon like staff.
Btw, what sigils should I use for my zerker sw/focus – staff phantasm build then?
That’s a good choice if you feel like you need a bit more toughness. Cavaliers is probably the best stat distribution to tack on to a zerker set other than zerker itself.
That’s what I thought!
Really glad I can use my staff with my sword/focus phantasms, that’s great and really exactly what I hoped for.
I have been thinking of using full zerker but with cavalier trinkets but maybe that’s a waste,
Thanks skcamow! Looks rather interesting but I’m not sure if going semi healer is something for me. I’m used to go full berserker and hit stuff Even though, it sounds like fun while reading about it
I would love it, but as you said, don’t know if it would be too op. Maybe should have a out of combat timer as well so you can’t keep them forever.
Hey!
I would like to know peoples oppinions on good staff builds for PvE (dungeons, fotm). I really like the staff and I want to use it more. Most of the times I use sword/focus phantasm build. Can the staff be integrated in this as well maybe?
If a build works with those 3 weapons I like the most (again, staff, sword and focus) it would be great
Shower me with ideas and oppinions people!
Thanks for the info durend, very helpfull!
Good point Xyonon, thanks.
Will wait for Illusionist’s Celerity to move to 15 points and make it 10/20/0/25/15 I think. Don’t feel as wasted then
sounds like I’ll be playing 10/20/0/25/15 then
Thanks again you both. oooh, so many nice builds to choose from, having a hard time to make up my mind
My thoughts are: I’m not sure if I want 30 in dueling, I really like playing sw/sw and if I’m not gonna take the pistol trait there’s nothing except fury and sword cd I really need there. So that frees up 10 extra points Thinking of maybe trying 10/20/0/30/10 to get the extra phantasm dmg from inspiration or maybe try out the build Xavi is playing with 0/20/0/25/25.
I would think Bloodlust is better than Perception, but not sure either
Thanks alot Dirend and Xavi for your suggestions. What trait in illusions is it you use? is it compunding power?
Thanks for your input clipnotdone, much appreciated.
Hey!
For a PvE (dungeon) phantasm build would you choose Illusionist’s Celerity or Phantasmal Strength?
I know you have have both but lets say you have to choose one of the lines, which one would be the best to choose? 1 plus for Illusionist’s Celerity is that you can also pick up Phantasmal Haste, which also feels nice for a phantasm build.
Thanks again Blood, couldn’t agree more about the Runes of the Traveler
Thanks for the tip Bloodgruve. What traits would you recommend taking?
Hey!
This is a PvE, dungeon question. I was wondering if this build would be any good in theory or if it’s a waste to combine shattering and phantasms. As I’ve tried it I’m using clones to shatter until the shatters I wanna use in the current fight is on cooldown, then I spawn my phantasms and let them do their thing for a while then repeat.
Edit: typos
Sw/Sw is a very defensive set, you shouldn’t have any trouble surviving, with Blade Training, and maybe a little bit of Player Training.
The main thing to remember is – stick to autoattacks for damage, and think of Blurred Frenzy as a third dodge, instead of burning it for a bit more DPS every time it’s ready. That, combined with the block on #4, should save you from almost everything once you learn to recognize and anticipate enemy attack animations.
Alot of player training it seems As I mentioned, the weird thing is that I’m usually really good at dodging attacks, but I fail on mesmer
I do like sw/sw though I rarely save blurred frenzy for the survival, thanks for the tip.
Thanks for the replies!
Nretep.2564
yes I meant the warlock
Nevhie.6079
Gonna check out your video later when I have the time.
Alissah.9281
Yeah I figured sword deals more.
Xyonon.3987
Sounds awesome!
I am currently using Sword/Sword (or focus) and greatsword, having a hard time deciding what to use I somehow feel like I started sucking at dodging when playing mesmer, I die way too much when wielding swords. On my zerker warrior and guardian it’s no problem but for some reason I’m just not as good on the mesmer :S
Hey!
Haven’t been playing my mesmer for some time but just got back to it. The general feeling I get when reading the forums is that nowadays no one like the Greatsword. Is this true and is it really not that good? I’m talking PvE here, dungeons, fractals and whatever, maybe even WvW.
Bonus question!:
Is the staff good on a zerker build? I remember the mage phantasm hitting really hard.
In PvE I am full zerker but it’s the wvw part I’ve been having some issues with I usually run with zerg or go solo, very rarely with a small team. I’ve read around the posts here that the sweetspot for healing power seems to be around 1200, sounds like alot and that it would be hard not to have clerics gear on all pieces, maybe I’m wrong.
I was thinking about buying the oh so expensive travelers runes cause they simply seem awesome. What are your thoughts about them for this build?
Hey!
I’ve been trying real hard to figure out what gear to get for wvw and this had me really interested. The video was awesome and almost made me drool :P But on paper it really do looks like it would take ages to kill someone (the video says otherwise).
What’s the exact build you’re using in the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwlGXBv1tc8 ?
I was thinking of keeping my zerker trinkets from pve for some more dps but from reading other posts it sounds like I’d have way too low healing to make it work, any suggestions?
I really do like sword/focus and I use it in PvE and that’s one of the things that really spoke to me in the video. Got ascended zerker versions of those but I guess I’d better switch to cleric weps?
Also I was thinking before that I should go PVT but this actually sounded better as a whole. Heal up the dmg instead of stacking vit to take more hits.
I probably have more questions later but this is what I’m thinking about atm. I really need some help to decide cause I wanna buy my exotic wvw gear as soon as possible and I’m not unlimited in cash
take a look at my pvp-video.
I play with my meditationbuild for a long time now.
Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ifUu_du_ZY&hd=1
interested in the build?
I would like to see the build
thanks for your replies, you’ve been very helpfull all of you!
so you would recommend travelers for my wvw set and scholar for my zerk set?
They sound really awesome. I use a 10/30/0/10/20 build with shouts and WoR for dungeons to help my party out (zerker though) but these seems sweet anyway. Haven’t really done meditations that much but might try it sometime. Feels like they don’t add much to your party though
Meditations are not for the party indeed, the only mediation I use in dungeons and not always is the one that removes a condition and deals damage. I always use consecration for condition heavy dungeons and stability for CC heavy dungeons, and since I can get AH I dont worry about sustain. Shouts are really nice indeed, but unless you are in a dungeon such as Arah or maybe TA, they are pretty much pointless, it is better to just go with damage and let the consecration/stability do most of their job, you know, even though most people would love to, it is not the guardian’s job to pull everyone’s wieght, because even if we want, we cant. There is a limit of how much we do, and focusing too much on soaking damage on the long run hurts the dungeon run. Dont want to get into the whole zerker vs no zerker argument, but currently dodges/damage are king, having the minimal condition cleansing and stunbreakers/stability is achieved by almost every class.
I say you give it a try, 10/25/30/0/5 is a good starting damage build, Sw/Focus and Sc/Torch, or you can change with GS or staff as needed.
I’m using sw/focus atm with right hand strength and loving it. I want more trait points to spend! :P
Unfortunatly people tend to think that as a guardian I’m supposed to save them no matter what they do. Have been bashed for not being a support guardian several times :S people just don’t seem to get it…
and atm I have soldier runes on my soldier wvw set and stupid flame legion runes for my zerker cause I just bought it and haven’t decided on runes for it yet :P
They sound really awesome. I use a 10/30/0/10/20 build with shouts and WoR for dungeons to help my party out (zerker though) but these seems sweet anyway. Haven’t really done meditations that much but might try it sometime. Feels like they don’t add much to your party though
you running it for pve or wvw Fortus?
If you guys didn’t know, they fixed the bug on rune of speed. It’s cheaper alterative to Traveler. A lot cheaper.
That’s a good option, though the boon duration on traveler was nice
So, is rune of the traveler good to have for any game mode? It looks rather interesting to me.
Nice, alot of posts to answer from being away at work
Aerlen.5326
yeah I thought more toughness would be nice. mostly leaning towards either Soldier gear with zerker trinkets or go knights maybe.
CptAurellian.9537
That’s pretty much what I thought as well.
TheGuy.3568
I did TA up path.
Oxxy.7068
Good point there
akamon.2769
I don’t think any of them were from the same guild but 2 of them were complaining for unknown reasons And yeah I try to maximize my dps through gear and support my team with my utilities like WoR, shouts or the spirit shield, which seems to me like it’s the way to go since my gear don’t really help the rest of the team as long as I manage to stay alive. Think I might also put soldier runes even on my berserker gear but haven’t fully decided yet.
For WvW I do both zerging and solo/small group roaming but it’s more zerg than roam. As I mentioned above in this post I might go soldier armor with zerker trinkets, does this seem like a good setup? The build isn’t quite clear yet but I’m thinking of going some offense still, maybe throw in some consecrations for reflect and stability.
Hey!
So I got totally bashed by my group in a dungeon the other day for being a zerker guardian with shouts and wall of reflection.
They called me a noob and that I should learn how to play guardian.
Note that I did not die….
Is this the general idea of the public?
And for the wvw question:
I like zerker in pve but I will no way play that in wvw but what stats should I go for in wvw. I’m thinking that I might keep the trinkets zerker though, just to get some dmg squeezed out of it.
suggestions?
As far as I am concerned, you can never go wrong with conditions when it comes to P/P or P/S. You have 30 in explosives, are you going for bombs? Grenades? Both?
Honestly, if your asking for advice, you a bit on the vague side. You mention your amulet and weapons set, but beyond that, we have no idea what traits your using, what utilities your using, runes you use, or sigils.
Help us help you my friend. The more when know about your build, the more we can advise.
I did say grenades
but here’s pretty much what I run:
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-VRw;2Z-Vg0;0NQFx0;9;4T9-T-47A2;308B;1TN1;3jwmAjwmA2VU
last utility slot varies between, bombs, flamethrower (not so much) and elixir gun so far.
Thanks for the link Brew Pinch, gonna check it out, was alot to read
NevirSayDie, I get perma swiftness/vigor with this too. it’s nice
Hey!
I was wondering how to gear my engineer for tPvP. I’m currently using 30/10/0/30/0 with P/S and grenades and a Rabid amulet. But I was thinking, is conditions the right way to go with this?
I’m doing pretty well but I feel there’s room for improvement.
