“Mentoring engineers / mesmers and showing you what you can do with your fantastic class!
Just pm me for my advice! Always eager to help!”
It has been fixed… The only kit that has been bugged was the greande kit. If you had it traited, it had no cd, wich was a bug. All kits have 1 sec cd, they always had.
Warrior damage on dodge has no cd aswell, and since our endurance is the true “CD” here, there is no 10 sec CD required. This is just stupid… It’s something that annoyed me since the patch.
Ranged weapons for silver wastes: Scepter + Pistol for single target / GS for aoe / Staff for boss fights (!!!)
Runes: Eagle (or Centaur for open world only)
Sigils: Force and Accuracy (or Force and Battle / Strength for solo only)
:) That’s all you need. Just use Mantra of Pain instead of the ranged aa and you’re fine.
PU was never op because of the duration of stealth, it WAS because of the lack of bad boons you have gained. A long invis uptime is nice to protect yourself, but it’s far from op. Would it be the old PU, hehe that’d be op.
The problem is rather that it’s a very strong noob basher now. If you are unable to dodge the shatter or prevent it via block or invuln, you are most likely dead. The weakness of the shatter mesmer is after F1.
Yea I agree it would probably be a nerf against thieves. But I’m rather aiming at overall balance and fairness among the classes. Thus, thief is a case for itself. Like the revenant too, they are oddly immune to chill (with the new jump-does-not-get-affected-by-it-either mechanic even more) and power block. But as I said – different stoy since the problem is rather their own mechanics.
Confusion as it is now is just weak. I’ve tried serval condition builds on different classes and confusion ALWAYS is at the bottom of the damaging conditions, regardless that it’s so rare amongst most classes and their skills either.
This bugs me
You can only say if its a nerf or a buff, if the damage numbers would be already defined. Is it too hard to say that a “while using a skill” dmging condition deals even MORE than burn? I mean burn always ticks and balancing this is only a matter of stacks.
I want confusion to be come dangerous again when you act, but leaving counterplay by doing nothing or rather → retreating from battle. Most conditions are exactly the same now. For example bleed and burn share EXACTLY the same purpose. And I don’t like that. Poison has another effect, torment aswell and that’s what I want to see more – different conditions, dealing damage and being used to counter something, not just being spammed for “more damageeeee”.
Since the patch i miss… balancing!
Too many nerfs hit the engineer. Its ridicolous.
Still upset about the mortar kit nerf? Please …
I am actually useful? YES!!! =^._.^= meow …
Well … I bet most so called “handsome” norn warriors out there get drunk every evening and make out with their banners … sooooo we could call those “companions” too
You can even face completly at nowhere and hit the target if you just hug it stong enough :P
I tought Brazil is only the guy who makes the vids and tells everyone what the true class players in DNT tell him what the best “is”? I know he plays too ofc, but not all guides he has on his channel have been made all by himself, have they?
Hey everyone, I want to talk about confusion and how it works. I think it fits the mesmer forum the most since it’s kinda “our” condition. Or at least it was, once upon a time
I really dislike the way confusion works now. It lost it’s unique style and is just another “dot” you can ignore or cleanse. Sure there is still the damage on action, but no matter how you look at it it’s still the same as before: Some skills hurt more and others like nothing at all. Fast hitting chains are devastating and channeled skills ignore the damage nearly complete.
They tried to balance this by shifting and transform some of the “on skill cast” dmg to a dot. But I think it’s the wrong way to fix confusion damage.
So I asked myself how to get this finally right? What is it everyone does, still can prevent but balances the damage overall? Well we already have a condition that works that way: torment.
Why not change the “on skill cast” to a “while using a skill” dmg? Remove the current dot that’s always there and give it a hard hitting dot, like burn, while enemies are using skills. That way you get punished for the time you are using a skill and not for the numbers of skills you use. This also works in PvE against mobs, especially when they are channeling something or get the slow effect of the time warp.
What do you think? Better? Worse? Your opinions, pvp AND pve.
- He thinks that the Static Discharge trait has a normal aftercast, even though it’s a skill queue-ing bug. So he writes the trait off as “worthless”, in particular because he’s unable to hit it, which I only have trouble with on the Flamethrower and elixir gun toolbelt, and only at range. You can screen-center bosses just fine.
The queue bug is what makes it literally worthless. Try the following:
Now you should have had no problems at all and everything went corret – nice!
Now try the same with static discharge enableded. After big old bomb, you will struggle placing the fire bomb if you are not spamming the button like 100 times :P Just try the whole rotation fast without spamming – it wont work.
Mesmers have the same problem with some traits that will cast a skill and interrupt the queue. It’s horrible T_T …
5. Flamethrower and Elixier Gun CDR – I really with this had become baseline for those weapons. They didn’t get anything baseline and I’d really like to have the lower CD on those weapons(( Toally miss that
It should just aim for what you’ve selected – simple as that. No “closest targets”, no special voodoo and magic stuff, just what you’ve selected.
And the damage should stay the same all the time – really annoys me T_T
Edit: plus static discharge interrupts queues since the patch, very annoying :/
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
Bombs always had 180, with a trait 240. They said this trait becomes baseline but so far only the animation became baseline :P We have a 240 animation, but 180 true radius. Definitly a bug and will be fixed in … well probably with heart of thorns in august … 2016 …
Any range accuracy is lowered. They only take less time to miss now. Unless you also miss with your aim, then they might hit!
We’re not basing it on the name of the rune, we’re basing on what you define as a companion. If it were up to me I would allow illusions/clones to be counted as companions. But , really there’s much better runes than ranger for mesmer in terms of damage even if they did work with clones.
Only the rune of the scholar is “better” than the rune of the ranger but only in raw damage. It’s weaker for reflected projectiles and even weaker for wardens reflection. So no – there aren’t much better rune*S* than ranger – there is only one and only for speedruns.
And are you sure you tested enough to make sure they do work with mesmer? Raw DPS tests with steady weapons?
Everyone says they don’t.
I think this happens with any trait that “casts skill X after action Y”. Lets say you press 1, 2 and 3. 2 is the Skill that will activate skill X with a trait, so what input you give in that moment is:
→ 1 – 2 – 3
but what the game does is this:
→ 1 – 2 | X (cuts off the rest)
Pretty annoying…
2nd activation of mantra heal doesn’t activate menders purity.
Illusionary inspiration also causes the game to ignore skill inputs while the inspiration is being cast (after summoning a phantasm). Needs fixing asap.
Frifox has a point, if the rune is supposed to work only with pets, it wouldn’t make sense at all. Afaik the rune works with thief guilds, necro pets, spirit weapons and elementals, since they are following you around, they are COMPANIONS, unlike illusions who are bound to the enemy and are rather a dot like feature.
I know somone tested it with guard, but I’m not sure if you tested precise enough. I’m pretty sure it works with spirit weapons, but if it doesn’t, the whole thing doesn’t make any sense at all …
Mender’s Purity adds a ~0.5-1s aftercast to every heal (except mantra?), during which every non-instant skill and weaponswap will be ignored. For me this is worse than your nr 1, since it messes with my rotations.
this
kittens up my rotation to summon the 3rd phantasm every time :<
Pre patch it was only if you traited grenadier trait – now they somehow ruined it completly, like when they first did with the hobos.
Just give us the effect ALL the time :<
Agreed – it’s a trait that makes grenades even worse. First day I thought “nice, more splash”, but no … just no … the “how they did it” is just awful. I do not always use that word, but I really HATE it.
Static Discharge and how it works a huge disaster of mechanics and programming.
For PvP use it only when you got toolbelts skills that aim for something, like rifle turret. Everything with a ground targeting or no target at all will miss (shot in the direction you are looking, mostly, the ground).
For dungeons you just can hug the enemy and it never misses. But for fotm … haha … heh … better don’t touch that trait at all :| … I prefer the free stunbreaker over that buggy trait.
I don’t even want to start about how it’s damage changing works :<
I noticed a similiar thing with the healing signet – I always have to press the phantasm after the signet multiple times. I just tought I’m going nuts so this may be the reason!? I’ll test this traited and untraited immediately …
Edit: Confirmed as a bug – If I untrait the inspiration line I get not interrupted and can cast a 2nd phantasm immediately. Power Cleanse prevent’s me from casting anything until you hear the “CLEANSE” sound :/. Another reason not to take the signet >_> …
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
Rune of the Eagle is the weaker brother of the Rune of the Ranger. You can just go with this. Or simply go a full kitten equip and use Rune of the Scholar. I know what you mean by “good stats the rune provides”, but in the end, every class is best with scholar runes if you look at the dps, even mes.
It WAS a bug, now it is fixed, not vice versa! I don’t think they should add Illusions to the companions list again, since it honestly makes sense that they aren’t companions.
I’d rather like to see new rune ideas like “precision, ferocity and 6th bonus 20% more dmg on reflected projectiles” or just fix old weak runes to be better. Right now everything is about power, precision or ferocity and a high dmg modifier.
Mesmer not one of the top desired professions? Yea, the same reason why engis aren’t either – the average player.
I always prefer a really good mesmer, so he / she can replace the guardian. Except for long uptime stability (and aegis / protection, but this isn’t really needed for dungeons anyway, neither for fractals if you got a thief / engi), the mes does everything else better than the guard, especially reflect thx to mimic now. It’s just much much harder.
Much has changed since the spec patch and I love it. Also I think most ppl don’t see the full potential of power block against certain champs yet. Especially since it works with frost bow. There are many things that haven’t come to the meta, since everything is about a wanna be old school phantasm build. Ever tried a pve oriented shatter build? Really love the vuln, blinds and boonstrips against ascalonian monks and dredges (fractals). Against trash mobs, phantasms have always been terrible anyway. be creative I say!
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
You should definitly read about the authority bias …
but yea chaos is indeed a smart guy.
May I ask you what build you are running Chaos?
Ohhhhh I just noticed it’s a zombie thread Thanks for the hint Lavra
I guess he’s refeering to the early beta (or alpha?), where clones actually did damage.
But since release clones deal no damage anymore, they just apply your basic attack and the conditions on them (or additional effects like boonstrip on sword aa). The phantasms are the dd’s now.
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
Wouldn’t warden stack much bleed aswell. Sure not as much as duellist, but hey utility + cleave.
Overall you can say: elitism is power, fun is what you prefer. You can go conditions, it is viable, pretty ok in open world, and just ok in dungeons / fotm. I prefer power because I am rather an elitist and all condi weapons can be played as power weapons aswell, but not vice versa.
@AlphatheWhite.9351
I like reading the whole wall’o’text and will probably take a deeper look on this again later, when I got more time. Really like the whole message though
I love healing ele too for example, it’s pretty funny especially against mai’thrin or silver wastes. So I know exactly what you are talking about subobtimal funny builds.
@Blades of Sabatine.5639
You misunderstood me. For efficiency alone, the only reason to go condi is that you can go with rabid gear IF you are unable to solo a certain champ with berserk/assassin/sinister gear. The “yet” in the end of the sentence meant that you ofc can learn how to play better against certain mobs, and then the the power versions of the class cannons will be stronger if you seek elitism. Unless you fight a husk (or ultra high armor mob in general) ofc.
I really enjoy reading this. But I’m not sure about the staff. Only for survivablity? I mean yea that’s a good reason, but that’s all? I still think the warlock misses like 99% of the time and has now lower range than the duellist :|
The greatsword is ok for open world. For dungeons it’s only good as an opener for trash due it’s aoe phantasm if you swap to sword after summoning it and stay on that.
The only other place I use a GS, is as a ranged weapon against the arch diviner (endboss cliffside fractal), since everything of it is unblockable. But even then, greatsword isn’t different to any other none sword weapon the mesmer has:
You will replace the auto attack with mantra of pain. That’s what you do for good dps with those weapons. That’s also a the reason why the scepter became much stronger than the greatsword in all other fights (besides the huge #3 buff) if you need a ranged option.
When I open your build, no traits are selected Can you post me those?
Nice gameplay tough! Love to see somone play with the staff <3
Now, with the Mesmer triggering Shatter effects on himself as well, Shatter has become an inherent part of the Mesmer that everyone should learn to utilize. This has the effect of making people think we’re all “shatter builds” now because they see us shatter and it actually being effective. But that’s like assuming a Necro is a Shroud Necro because he tactically goes into Shroud form to Fear interrupt a stomp or to gain some extra effective health.
Care to elaborate? Any skilled player already used F3/F4 when the situation called for it, but F1 still sucks for anything other than finishing off a normal mob, and F2 is borderline useless even in a condi build.
In PvP things might be different, but it’s still an innate trade of dps for burst, and if that burst fails to kill…
You don’t see all the doors that opened with IP baseline. You can F1 or F2 boonstrip anytime you want now. You don’t have to use a crappy nullfield for dredges or monks in fractals anymore. You can remove might and protection so easy now.
Shatter mes is pretty much the best thing you can do right now for trash mobs, since phantasms were terrible in this area anyway. You can even retrait for F3 to be AoE to stack tons of vuln, since not every pt has an egineer to do that for them and eles running lightning storm makes their dps drop.
It also makes sense if no more utility skills are required to start a boss fight with mirror images, sword 3, sword 4 + persona with F3, to stack immediately 25 stacks vuln + you already removed the defiance again for icebow. Or simply wait for icebow freeze.
You can now also use F4 ANYTIME. Pre patch, it was unreliable to use, since your illusions could die anytime. Now you can use it in the cannon phase at mai thrin, now you can absorb horriks shots anytime, now you can even trait for the reflect for a party wide distortion + reflection against some enemies, now you can make your whole party immune to the cliffside fractals endboss first stun, without having to blink to him and blocking a useful utility slot, etc
There are many new possibilites with persona being baseline, but most ppl just keep playing like the old days, like nothing has changed.
Well then you asked the wrong ppl
No it does not affect them. No damage modifiers affect phantasms, except for when they directly get them, like frost spirit (if the limit for targets isn’t reached by allies) or like trait 2 in domination (+15% dmg for phantasms).
… found Meteorlogicus which is really cool…
… when I will spend kittenload of money on legendary+ascended armor I want it to be top notch gear I use all the time – not something niche
So if I read that right, you want to buy a legendary that you see often, mainly the scepter?
For power builds, only the sword is a main weapon, every other weapon is a niche weapon. If you go tryhard and want to get the best of your class, as power mesmer you’ll have to swap weapons all the time.
For condition builds, there will always be the scepter + pistol (torch for cleave / trash) and the staff. Sure you can use the sword too instead of the scepter wich would probably even deal more damage, but the point is, that even if it’s sub-par, you will be able to use the scepter as a main weapon all the time.
But if you count sub-par builds / playstyles as acceptable for yourself, you can also run the scepter in power builds as a main weapon, replacing the auto attack with mantra of pain, and having the strongest power scaling mesmer skill on your key nr 3.
What I want to say with this: the scepter is a great niche weapon for meta mesmers, but not a main weapon, wich is only the sword. But if you don’t care about the meta, the scepter can be used as a power aswell as a condi weapon.
greez
No darling, I do read your stuff and as I already told you in the other thread:
What is “strong damage in dungeons” for you? What is “decent”? I still want more than just words to verify this statement, otherwise it’s just obsolete.
I’m not the kind of person who sugarcoats something that is semi good or “sub-par” as a very important person here would say. You do the same thing again as in the other thread we’ve argued about this. Do NOT ignore the OT’s problem for the sake of how “viable” condis are! It’s all about TO HELP THE OT!!!
Let me show you what I mean with this by quoting the OT here:
I have not played my mesmer for a long time.
Now I am slowly hoarding Damask cloth so I will be in 2 weeks able to craft set of cloth ascended armor. Question is – what stats?
Month ago it would be quite easy – Zerker all the way… but now I am intrigued to go condi torment/confusion mesmer… it seems to have lot of synergies in trait lines/signets?I have zerker warrior and would like to try something different
but also do not want to waste resources on something sub-par…. another intriguing on condition build is full set of ascended jewelery I have got as side product of LS….
Maybe someone has experience with these builds? I do mostly silwerwastes and EoM lately… but also open word and occasional daily fractal.
Therefore – aslong as noone out there can prove me that conditions are optimal (not sub-par!), I will protect any young mesmer from crafting a condi outfit as their first one – ANYONE. Especially if they want the optimal one.
- greez Madame Le Blanc
Since my earlier post in this thread, I’ve done many additional dungeon runs, including multiple paths of Arah. The build has worked well in those settings.
I run the Silverwastes regularly, and do world bosses periodically. In all cases, watching my damage output, it puts out a strong showing, easily enough to put the lie to your claims.
I’d really like to see that damage output myself. Really, I’d appreciate it if you could upload a vid, even if you filmed it with your smartphone or anything. After all what you’ve said you seem to beleve or know that you really deal strong damage. I’m honestly curious.
Far from being a “mindless fanboy of conditions,” I have put the build to extensive testing because I do enjoy it, in ways I don’t enjoy my power mes, condi engi, zerker thief, power ele, celestial ele, healing ele or longbow ranger (I do enjoy those for their own reasons).
You, on the other hand, have demonstrated a “mindless” devotion to “the leetzors!” in your apparent insistence that a build is only viable if it is optimal. This is straight up just not true.
I won’t quote myself about the “build is only viable if it’s optimal” part, since I think you would’t say this again by now.
I’m not someone who just says “no, that’s wrong, no that’s wrong” all the time for no reason. I’d like to beleve you and tell others that this whole story is true. But word’s alone aren’t gonna change that at all. I want facts, numbers or any material I can work with. Can you keep up 2k, 5k, 10k, 20k dps? On how many targets? After what wind up time for the condis? Just stuff like that. I let myself being teached something new anytime, better than standing still, don’t ya think? But only if you can prove what you are talking about.
Overall I beleve we have talked from 2 different points of view. You with your main focus on your build, I with my main focus on the quote of the OT.
Some final words for this post: Since by writing it’s always difficult to show emotions, and reading makes us imgine the emotion of the writer having those we want him to have, I just want to say that I’m not aggressively disagreeing with you. I’m not a fan of misunderstandings so I wanted to say that. I’m a friend of good discussions. And I welcome new expirience. That’s why I want to meet ig (pm).

@Xyonon: While I respect your points on the potency of power builds, I’m surprised you completely ignored the main point of my post: my condition mesmer build, as outlined above and even with some suboptimal combat choices (Runes of the Traveler), has been effective in solo world content, world bosses, and dungeons.
I didn’t ignore your posts, I read everything and it’s really nice to see how much effort you put in this build. I played all the startegy tips in my mind while reading them and everything is fine, but I think the whole package is just not as good as you beleve it to be. Or maybe it is me who thinks that you think that it’s better than it actually is? That’d be a stupid misunderstanding – tell me.
This is to say your dismissal of the build appears to stem largely from lack of experience with the build in question, as I have personally played the condition mesmer in all available PVE content, and it has performed swimmingly.
Not this specific build, but condition builds in general have always had a special place in my heart, since I really love the staff and the scepter and I always hated the meta and normal things. I’ve tried serval different builds with conditions and I’m a tryhard who always retraits if I have to. According to this, having PU in my build (for example) for no other reason than skipping, makes it obsolete. I can retrait for PU only anytime with any build. That’s what I do. Lack of expirience with condi builds? No … well maybe a little. Expirience on both sides of the dmg output? Yes. But how about you? Maybe our definition of “performing swimmingly” is also different wich also a potential source of a stupid misunderstanding.
Furthermore, your claim that there is no “viable good” condition damage build for Mesmer relies on a rather poor definition of viable, in which you define “viable” as “better than other builds of the same class.” (in particular, power mesmers)
We who speak English natively know, of course, that “viable” means “capable of working successfully; feasible,”
and in non-competitive content has little to nothing to do with how it stacks up against other builds of the same class.
For a proper definition of viable, I can safely confirm that the clone condition mesmer build is viable, as it does sufficient dps in dungeons, open-world roaming, open-world events, and world bosses to be “capable of working successfully; feasible.”
Indeed, none of your points have anything to do whether the build doesn’t work.
You drifted away with your writings I guess. May I quote the OT here?
I just blew the majority of my money finished ascended armor so I don’t want to waste what’s left buying a set of gear if the build isn’t that useful in PVE events/dungeons/fractals. So basically it comes down to this…
There isn’t just viable or not viable in general. The word “viable” defines itself according to the request! In this case viable simply means, as you said “capable of working successfully, feasible” in the of the OT requested areas! Not just some of them! This means in this case: the whole pve package! (I think this is why we disagreed so much)
By your generalized definition of viable, everyting, simply everything is viable. But this is misleading the OT, since this build doesn’t worky VERY well with all the dungeon content (imo). By anything I’ve seen with any condition build so far, you cannot deal a good amount of damage with them, especially not on trash mobs. He’d get kicked by any speedrung party or higher fotm group. This build DOES work very well with fighting husks tough or the general open world stuff where I agree – everything is viable. So this build is only viable for some parts of the game, but NOT FOR ALL of them. According to this – you got a pm
(edited by Xyonon.3987)
Scepter has become a great power weapon or starter weapon (power aswell). Had countless 16k crits with #3 in fotm with a good party. Also you can replace the aa with MoP, use a sword offhand to proc fencers (yes it works that way) and it’s the best ranged option we have right now I really like it, the block isn’t the best for power build’s especially since you have a sword block aswell, but it’s nice to daze mai thrin with sword and have a 2nd block. Scepter #3 deals more damage than any other skill we have, so you could just use it to open with against regular bosses in dungeons and swap to sword + X after you summoned your phant.
So everything is “viable” then, like a full cleric condition mesmer who’s running mantra of pain as main damage source, if “viable” just means you can do pve open world content… :P yea, you get the idea
No seriously, viable in my ears means everything that is not 100% meta and still works decent, like condi engi or ele or shatter power mes, necro in pve, etc. But condi mes is just the reason for getting kicked out of dungeons or fractals.
wvw is a different story !
PvE: full zerk with eagle runes or full assassin with scholar runes. Nothing else.
It’s no longer disabled – but the legy effect is gone … FIX THIS PLEASE !!! it’s one of the few cool animations we have … i mean “had” …
So grenadier trait works now – I mean it really does, it’s not anylonger disabled.
Still bugs:
- the splash indicators (green and the one grenade barrage has where the nades are landing when they are midair) are still 120 ø, but the nades spread more
- you removed the animation of grenade barrage with legendaries. please revert this, it’s very very very very very annoying and i miss my grenade animations of the predator. we already have less animations with legis, don’t take us the few we have
It has less vuln potential, less crit chances, has a very long aftercast that is not on the skill animation itself and generally is hard to combine with dodges. And yes, it has less damage than triple nade hits. There’s a reason the based entirely on pure and straight up maths with giant Spreadsheets formulas from DNT’s Brazil conclude that Orbital Strike is always a dps loss and should only be cast in downtimes if you want to do the most insane 20 seconds 17k dps combo possible in full upkeep. Nades have the advantage of enjoying the sweet sweet explosion trait line.
Edit: Here ya go.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-k-BLJiBbAAlso, I still use orbital strike lots. I luv my might and other combo finishers and still decent damage. I could snuggle that laser lots and lots. And I find SD kinda reliable on the ground targets, as long as you have an enemy chosen during the cast.
DNT – another reason to not fall victim to the authority bias.
Orbital Strike has not less damage than triple nade hits. The whole animation of OS takes as long as 1.5~ grenade auto attacks, NOT MORE. OS deals pretty much exatly the double raw dps as grenades autos do in this time. So in the part of brazil using 6 grenade autos (wich btw could have been optimized if he’d start with nade 254 instead of 542 so sharpnel is rdy faster again), you can easily fill in an OS.
OS has less vuln potential, can’t argue with that but if his argument is the vuln stacks, he’d also not use blunderbuss or flame blast, because those two attacks are less of a dps increase compared to nades autos compared to OS. So the whole story of brazil doesn’t add up.
greez Ziggy
Bombs are still bugged – now even more
So they “fixed” smoke bomb to have a 2sec interval and only pulse 3 times in these 4 sec duration… Pre 23 it was a 1sec and 5 pulses. I’m kinda upset by this.
Oh yea and the bombs still have 180 range, just visual it’s 240.
I really expected this to be fixed …
