Great idea, I hope they have plans for design contests. GW1 had some and really great weapons were born and implemented by them so I support it.

[Merged] Cultural Human T3 Not Exclusive

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I just went on to see the news for myself and they did it, I’m happy they listened. Armors like that(cultural and any exclusive mainly) shouldn’t be implented in the gem store. They could make it cost a little more and add it as an exotic cultural to the vendor.
And on your problem, well if they don’t remove it, it would’ve hurt the game on the long run, but I agree, I wouldn’t have removed the skin from those who already bought and applied and I would reimplement it in some way. It’s a good skin, would be a waste to throw out.

Anet - Cultural Situation Resolution Proposal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zalman.8719

Zalman.8719

Sounds good, but cultural should’ve remained bound to race. I like the idea of class armors, they could add a few to make classes recognizable and to distinct the look of them so they were really unique and exclusive. I like your tab idea, well thought. On the cultural problem, they should’ve chosen another armor to upgrade it in the first place. Making them available to evey race takes away from the uniqueness of the race since they were designed to “represent” a race(and makes choosinga race less important). In my opinion, the best solution is to replace the T3 light in the game, but that would anger those who bought it. So they created a lose-lose situation only the extent of the sacrifice is changing beetwen the solutions.

How would you rate this update?

in Living World

Posted by: Zalman.8719

Zalman.8719

Not worth rating in my opinion. The T3 cultural armor selling is through the line. Seriously, whose idea was that? As a developer it’s clearer than the sky it’d cause an outrage and ppl are right. Why not sell dungeon armor in gem store then?or basically anything. I don’t like the direction Anet has taken and is kitten ing me off. I’m thinking about stopping playing, but what does it matter in case of B2P MMO? They already got my money( I even spent in the gem store, guess I shouldn’t have spent that on this game)

This surprised me, I expected more because of the previous sets. The light not only looks better(imo), but is cheaper than the cultural. Kills the whole point of cultural armors, I appreciate the idea, but seriously, at least don’t put it in the gem shop. If you’re reskinning it, just put it into the vendor as an exotic one and cost a slightly more.

Not going to play this more than needed if not must, I was interested in Abaddon.
And before you say " old news, Thaumanova is mistery, and this is unsees, untold story",
I don’t care. Thaumanova was blown up by Inquest, probably by similar researchs that are ongoing in CoE and Infinity Coil, it is told in-game and on the wiki, it is set in stone.
Abaddon on the other could’ve come as an epic battle of gods if not messed up.
Anyways I’ll play this through to see it for myself, there may be interesting turns in there.
And no nothing is set really into stone, since we don’t know details of neither the battle or the exact circumstances of the explosion.

I’ve seen similar things in TwelveSky, though it did not increase in difficulty. It was interesting but overall it wasn’t that great since the game was P2W.

I’d make 2 versions of this. One to PVE and one to WvW.
Pve one would require a meta-event to be completed so the dungeon would stay open for hours.
In WvW, I’d put the entrance either into a Keep or something like that. So ppl who don’t want to play WvW would have their own version of this without the worry of being zerged by other servers and WvW players would have their own with other servers on the loose on them. Though it requires different balancing to make it worthwhile to worry about other servers. I’d make the Pve one a little harder to compensate that.

Anyways, you brought up a good idea.

I hope the season 1 rewards are not worth it

We can’t decide for you, experiment, respeccing traits is cheaps so before you gear up, experiment a little.
I’m flamethrower because it’s fun, and grenades are also fun soo, you can’t really go wrong.
Not a big pro on that class, haven’t played it in a while.

IMO, there were less aspects to look at before LS. I’d like to see them expanding it too. And I agree, they should leave the LS, most of the stories aren’t tied to the world anyways so I don’t care that much(I tried, honestly) as I’d with some actually connected to it.

Some comments in this thread really made my day

I agree, the reign the hobosack must come to an end. My version of this is to make kit skins. They could make dungeon themed kit skins which could be bought with tokens and some to the current LS theme and put it into the gemstore. Then there could be cultural versions and so on.There are a lot of solutions but this seems the best for me.
Don’t bind it to the chest armor. Some might complain about it and since the game is about cosmetics, changing them would mean a chest armor change which might not fit the armor of the character.

More Elder Dragons without an Expansion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zalman.8719

Zalman.8719

Favoring expansion for many reasons.
You can complete it at your own pace. The devs have much more time to think things through and develop higher quality content. These 2 week story chunks give us not that good content which done by ppl once in the first few days then abandoned. Then it’s thrown out and we probably never see it again(except festivals or returning wanderers like the Zephyr Sanctum). I’d use LS because the basic idea is good but only as a bridge beetwen expansions expanding the story where it ended.

Guild Wars 2: Factions

Hated factions. Worst part of GW1. All it did was create guilds that required minimum amounts of factions be donated each day by members. Hope to never see anything like that again in GW2.

Nobody forced you to do it. Why didn’t you join a guild whose members were dedicated to that?

Why do people stop playing GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zalman.8719

Zalman.8719

Because it’s a dissapointment. GW1 was fun just by playing the game. Mindless gear for a piece of gear is not worth it.
I did everything I wanted, seen everything I wanted but the game doesn’t give more interesting points or events to keep me here.
WvW is fun IF you’re on the right server. Otherwise you’re zerged.
Pve is not interesting anymore. I’ve been playing for a year and done every meta event, dungeon a lot of times. Dungeons, stacking in every corner is not fun. I’ve done them so many times, they can’t show me anything new now.
Legendaries. Pretty items put behind a curse called RNG. The worst part of any game ever. LS, if they won’t change their ways, I’m done with this. Not interesting, minimal, unrelated story, with grinding. No, thank you.
Zerging, running in a big mob mindlessly is not cutting it, sorry.
Then comes ascended. Not only kills a part of the lore, but I’m always wondering “What’s the point of this” ? What was the problem with exotics? Why they have to be replaced? Found no logical reasons for that. I’ve had high expectations after GW1, I admit. But this…I never was this patient with any game yet. Will be around to see the changes though. But I find myself playing less and less and less…

Personally, I don’t care about endgame, I care about the game as a whole. I don’t need shinyepicultimatethiswillkilleverything stuff as a reward, but a little thing that’s looking good and worth the pain and challenge(if there’s any) is fine. For example GW1 missions. You didn’t get much reward for them, but doing them was fun, they were decent both in duration and in difficulty. I replayed the campaings several times. Unfortunately, in GW2, I’m not interested in many things. These minigames are not my cup of tea, the PVE has not much to offer, since I did everything I wanted. I love WvW if we’re not zerging, or we’re not zerged, but on WSR I’m having a hard time completing the achis for the season. So that takes away from the fun. To change servers I’d have to do dungeons and I’m bored of them since they don’t offer much challenge since everybody is stacking and all kind of bs. So, my endgame will be dungeon running if I force myself to it and WvW.

Thank you Galen Grey for making this list “100+ Guild missions, 2 Dungeons, 50+ new Dynamic Events, 3 PvP maps, 3 news mini dungeons, a new meta event, a new zone and the changes to WvW.” because that sounds close to an expansions worth of content (Maybe add two more zones and a new class) and the kicker is it was free and done in less than a year after release.

All that content is pathetic compared to what GW Factions added.

Except that Factions and Prophecies together had less content than Guild Wars 2 at launch. Nice try though.

They may had, but overall these campaigns were more fun, well built, had nice story, awesome armor arts, interesting places and kept me busy for years not like GW2 which I’m getting bored of. (Playing for almost a year)

I like it, though on the 3rd level, I was just running by, because it scaled in difficulty so much I couldn’t handle it alone. That said, I would remove the elite and only put them in events,( It may be like that, I haven’t noticed or looked after it) so ppl could do it alone too and would not encourage zerging that much. As a WSR player I haven’t experinced much zerging, it was only a bigger group and smaller ones spread out. I enjoyed it, except the 3rd because of the Aetherblades. Getting stunned and confusion is annoying, and I would thin the mobs a little, so every faction would be present but in mixed groups. Overall I like this place, kind of fun in groups, the only “issue” is I only got into 1 or 2 nightmare chambers. Everytime I found them they were sealed.

Armor Class and Class

in Lore

Posted by: Zalman.8719

Zalman.8719

The first solution that came to my mindis transmute stone and some design. Since you can transmute the look and stat the system has to be just expanded. The problem can be that the other armors are designed for the classes that are using the armor now, that’s where design comes in.

Another solution would be the costume system of GW1. Needs a little expansion though to wear actual armor over an armor or just put a skin into costume slot so you could keep the current armor stat but you’d have the look of the costume slots.

Lorewise it’s good. If I remember well, Logan wore leather armor(not sure) before joining the seraph and used a hammer which is a warrior(or heavy class weapon now) weapon. But a special NPC like him can do anything so these are just suggestions.

The only thing I don’t like about the set is the shorts. Yes, shorts. If you look at it, there’s a lot of space beetwen the leggings and the boots. It’s like the char is wearing a plated short over a simple trouser or whatever. It looks very bad if from the backside and as a player you’ll look at it often from that side. I noticed the neck too, but that wasn’t that bad to me compared to the leg/boot “not-joint”, if they work on that too, it will be a decent set.

On a sidenote, the whole set cries out for a cape, I don’t know if it’s just me but it’s reminding me of GW1 and maybe that’s why.

Would you see something from the flashes? How it would look like with other “flashy” skill effects.(Good thing they scale down when a lot of them are present)
Don’t get me wrong, you have great ideas here, but we have to think about this too.

I like that you thought about every profession, that armor for every armor class system is good, but can’t satisfy everyone’s needs and you can have trouble finding the armor you imagined.

3rd Heavy Armor Class: The Dervish

in Suggestions

Zalman.8719

Just no to this.

Finally forget this, GW2 will and should never have them back, at least in that silly GW1 style.
Its a bad class concept, that fits also not to all playable races and thats one of the main reasons, why they aren’t in GW2.

You would have to make a complete redesign around them together with an other name to implement some key mechanics that made the GW1 version of the class different, to make a class concept like that fit to the game.

You did nothing special here, your just one of those people, who really believes, they can just put everythign that the GW1 dervish had to GW2 , add some new weapons to them and mix it with specific Ritalist Skills to bring them back to GW2 too and et voila, there is it, the 0815 GW2 Dervish idea, that 1000s of other people have already posted too…

For the sake of ending the permanent 3rd heavy class discussion, id even rather see my Mystic Concept in the game as a 3rd heavy class, before the game receives such a boring GW1 copy n paste version that absolutely doesn’t fit into the game, only because of some GW1 fanbois/girls wanting to have badly their stupid wannabe cool muahah look at me, im the grim reaper-scythes back only …
In that case i’ve some news for you – go play a necromancer and get a Final Rest !!

The games lore of GW2 in regard of the priory of durmand tells us even, that there is such a profession called the Mystic, so why not make something completely new out of that lore scrap, that fits to the game, instead of putting some old coffee from GW1 into the game, that won’t taste good and won’t be good for the game at all.

PS: for those that are interested and I’m too lazy to bump that old thread up ^^
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/A-unique-Derv-Redesign-possible-The-Mystic/first#post2646977

Don’t want to be rude, but in your thread you just described the dervish and a mechanic or elite or whatever the scrolls are. Basically it’s the almost the same, only difference he’s using scrolls or seals instead of avatars.

No, not really. I’ve seen everything I wanted and did everything I wanted. Since they “force” that Disconnected not-so Living Story that adds not much to see, I don’t know what to do. I’ve done dungeons and with the current state of them(stack and spam the heck out of the bosses) it’s not fun to me. I’ve done JP’s, WvW is not really an option since I’m on WSR which can be considered as a PVE server so we’re not that good at it. Zerging is boring, sometimes i guest to do the metaevents and do the dailies if I’m in the right mood. Making a Legendary is a grind again unless the RNG gods bless me and my account, don’t think it’s worth anymore. I’ll stay around to see what Anet does to this franchise.

Anyone else simply bored?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zalman.8719

Zalman.8719

Honestly, I’m playing for almost a year now and I’m quite disappointed with the game.
It’s grindy and I hate grinding (*cough*TwelveSky2*cough*). At 80 all I have to do is dailies, dungeon runs, WvW if I’m in the mood to get my kitten kicked. I’ve alts to level, but after I completed map completion with my main, I lost interest in the maps since I saw the points of interests that were interesting to me. I found myself just standing in LA doing nothing. I’ve run dungeons a few hundred time, I’ve dungeon Master, it’s not fun anymore. I don’t care about Ascended or gear in general, not a big fan of this gear treadmill they will create, it’s not fun to do and with ascended they killed that part of the lore too, along with infusion. I don’t know what to do now. In the precessedor I collected armors and weapons, but with this RNG stuff(worst system I ever experienced in any MMO), I can’t do this. I did the PS so many times while lvling alt back then I’m sick of it and IMO it’s not that great as GW1’s. Choosing a faction or order means nothing, it’s not the game I thought it would be when I started playing. The LS is not interesting since I dislike zerging and grinding and it’s not really connected to GW lore or the world, the rewards are simply not worth it. The combat is good, but repetitive, since we don’t have much skills or skill chains and the dungeon stacking make it worse. I’m a big fan of GW(played the 1st one for 6-7 years, I even bought the Nightfall Collector’s Edition) but this one is a letdown to me, sorry Anet. I hope they will listen to ppl posting in the collaborative thread.

Forgot to mention PVP, not thanks, never was a fan, though I did Fort Aspenwood, Jade quarry and thing like that in GW1 because they were really fun and rewarding. It kept me busy for hours, they were really great. This PVP system is not quite appealing to me.

So a fun question to ask to help direct the conversation a bit: What aspects of your favorite television shows would you think would be cool to see reflected in a game medium?

It’s a quote from a ways back, but it’s the best way to frame my response. I hope you don’t mind.

A good show must find a balance between building lore, establishing characters, indulging in instant gratification, and setting up long term investment. In many ways, a television show is an apt comparison to MMOs. They require an initial hook to get the player interested combined with long term reasons to get committed to regular viewing. In addition, they cater to many different individual’s personal tastes; viewers will get attached to certain characters, become invested in the plot, or simply enjoy the wit and banter to bring them back again and again. At the moment, however, the Living Story feels like a poor spinoff due to the overemphasis on the Saga of Scarlet. In order to achieve a solid viewing audience, the Living Story needs to find balance.

I have a thread over yonder where I go into more details, but here is a simple example of a Living Story arrangement designed to appeal to a wide audience. The idea is to reserve long term campaigns that take months of content for the most important things going on in Tyria (which are dragons, not redheaded Sylvari reverse engineering bloodstones). These fit into the January-to-May block very easily, since there are no holidays during that time frame. Meanwhile, the rest of the year is devoted to creature features, lore delves, one shot stories, and the introduction of new races in order to indulge a diverse audience. The combination of hardcore campaigns and whimsical/wonderful oneshots should satisfy the audience and keep them entertained for years to come.

If it is not to presumptuous, here is a hypothetical TV Guide To Tyria to demonstrate what the Living Story could be.

This is some seriously epic stuff, though I would work on it a little here and there, but it’s more than a good start. Don’t want to be rude, but this puts the current LS into shame. Actually, I want to see this happen. Though, we have to look at the technical side of the things, it would be a lot of hard work to implement new maps, themes, armors, weapons, npc…etc. in that time rate, but possible, I hope they show that post to everyone inside their studio, it’s really epic.

Hey Guys and Devs.

Good to see you are responding to peeps.

I’ve thought about Chris’s question and in conclusion of my “brainstorming” I found the question really odd. Why follow a TV series’s concept when you have a lot of cool video game series?
I’ve just finished CoD Modern Warfare series and still thought “kitten , that was still awesome…I’ll surely replay it in the future”. Cool story, you get to live it from different characters perspective and it’s just good as it is.(Ok, not that great, still don’t understand why they had to kill Sandman and his team but you get the point) And not to mention the epic moments for example when the Eiffel tower came down, or the Prypiat missions, discovering the “thought abandoned” city was fun.

You did similar with Guild Wars beyond, think about the wedding story when we played with Keiran for a few missions. Overall it was connected, well built up and you introduced a character who we met later in WoC(the assssin, sorry, forgot her name). I was actually sitting on nails because I couldn’t wait the next patch.
Now with these LW updates, I found myself not to care anymore because it didn’t make sense to me or because the story was kind of spread out.(I’m a lore geek on Guild Wars, really love it, but this player vs Scarlet and every bad guy in the world haven’t been so memorable(or I could haven’t made a deep impact on me))

That’s it for now, time to rest.

So a fun question to ask to help direct the conversation a bit: What aspects of your favorite television shows would you think would be cool to see reflected in a game medium?

To a large degree, the things we want to accomplish with living world overlap in a lot of ways with what a television series does. Or another example of our goals: if you bought your favorite RPG and the story was constantly expanded or continued, for free on a regular basis.

I’m not saying we’re doing all of these things above, those are simply the goals we have to help make Gw2 unique and something innovative in the genre through a dynamic living world we envisioned 7 odd years ago.

I personally think we have a lot of work to do to get to the point we’re succeeding on these goals, but with every step along the way we’re learning an incredible amount. Some fantastic ideas and comments in this thread, and many of them match our own feelings on living world and what would make it successful as well. Many of these ideas are things you’ve all been suggesting for months (or longer) and will be reflected in future releases. Remember what you see today we started work on 4-5 months ago (or longer), so the lag time to adjust to feedback and what we learned isn’t going to be instant, it’ll come in waves of evolutions with each round of feedback and discussion.

Good to see you guys are actually reading this stuff.

Though I’m not actually answering your question, I’ve got an idea. A lot of ppl is suggesting that they hould revisit older releases. You did something similar in GW1.
That was the scrying pool in the Hall of Monuments in Eye of the North. You could improve that system and let players do the older stuff or recap them on what’s going on, what happened so far. Remember the Keiran missions in the wilderness. We could replay them and we could watch cinematics and so on. It was a good and working mechanic of the game. You guys should consider it.
Though it is destroyed and lies in ruins, I don’t think the magic just fades away
And you could use the npc to hold reward skins just like we hold HoM skins.

Lot of cool ideas here, read for an hour or so. Hope I see some of them in-game.

Really, this 2 week cycle is so short and feels forced, as others said LS doesn’t really connects to the personal story. You have lore enough to do some really epic and jaw-dropping stuff.

There’s a lot of space on the map, I want to explore them! I want the ruins of Thunderhead Keep, venture to Isles of Janthir, discover the new crystal desert and see Cantha and Elona(my favorites, sry, but Kryta and Tyria is boring after a year). I spent a lot of time in these lands in GW1 and really enjoyed the stuff you made(War In Kryta and Winds of Change was awesome!!)
Or after Zhaitans defeat no one really blocks the path to Cantha(here’s your chance) I know they’re isolationists, but imagine a siege on Kaineng Center(if it didn’t crumble from people building their houses on each other’s heads, you really nailed that city)
Npc’s are not recognizing us? Why? We killed Zhaitan! We are the commanders of the Pact, that’s something.
(On a sidenote: I hope I won’t see Scarlet in today’s patch. I hate the krait, but my hate for her is undescribable. Hope she won’t last any longer) I want to see White Mantle(always dreamed of their cape(another chance, come on, everybody wants capes, they had clipping issues in the 1st GW and nobody cared)), Mursaat, Ministry of Purity, Palawa’s Bone Palace, the Jade Sea and Echovald Forest and so on.

Suggestion, not sure if I have to write this here, but I hope you’ll read it.
Implement a something like the district system was in GW1 for overflows. It’s annoying to have 80 overflows for 100 ppl on Tequatl.

As for rewards, i’m tired of minis, don’t really care about them, never really did. Skins are cool, but not only back items. You could implement new armor/weapon recipes, or vendors through the LS or just as others suggested that we could withdraw them just like Zenith skins. (I think I read in an interview about a skin locker, not sure.)
Something like that would be good.
This is it for now, I get back to the virtual world of Guild Wars now.

I’ve read some of the comments(great thoughts guys, keep it goin’) here are mine:

- 2 Weeks: Whyyy?? You’re makingyou own work harder and some of us can’t put that much time into playing the game, so he has to rush through the content ignoring it’s story and even then he’d lucky if he finished.

-Scarlet: When can we kill her?(Drop her, seriously, you can do better)

-Stories: The beginning was good, I enjoyed the Flame and Frost and even the Southsun stories too they were great. But we haven’t heard from the Molten Alliance fora while then they just pop out of nowhere alongside Scarlet. You’ve built up a great world with the first game, use it. There are White Mantle(loved ‘em), Mursaat(Lazarus The Dire) or even after Zhaitan’s defeat the first ship from Cantha could reach Kryta or something like that, you’ve got the lore and DROP THIS SCARLET THING!!! More annoying than fun.

Rewards: Enough of the minis or back skins. I love the gauntlets from F&F, you could do that in 2 weeks, why are you bombarding us with backs and minis? Give me cape or no more backpacks!!!( Yeah, I know, clipping…etcetc, but get creative)

As for Tequatl: Thank you, didn’t kill him since he’s got stronger. Others are okay. No one even bothers on the server(think about less populated servers like WSR or Vabbi next time, thank you)

World: Half the world can’t be explored…you could introduce new maps, there’s a lot of space there.

This is for now…we’ll see if you really listen to us.

I have a warrior. It’s good, but as I got deeper and deeper into this class I really started to think I should’ve chosen a guardian instead. Warrior is good for me, but i like the way the guard plays more. I don’t want to reroll, I have much effort in it and with these 2 week living stories I would miss out much. Not to mention acquiring gear and everything. So he stays as my main.(until a wonder which brings us a class change, don’t think that’s going to happen soon or at all.)
