The gear you are talking about is to be ‘grinded’ for in Dungeons on Explore mode or crated at the Mystic Forge. There is no set ‘endgame’ GW2 is about how you get there not what is actually there. Guild Wars 2 emphasizes the journey and the end game is a secondary concern.
I agree that’s the intent, but it’s not being communicated nor playing out that way in game it would seem.
Players see 80 levels in front of them as a goal… wether they rush or not is irrelevant… it’s human nature to see that goal and work toward it.
GW2 overall suffers for not having meaningful end-game content and progression. I feel it could be done in a “GW2 way” but, I feel it definitely has to be done.
This is the thrill of being guaranteed an item after X amount of runs.
That’s not fun, by the way. That’s called a chore.
A boss with exclusive loot that drops only from him gives the loot context and surprise when/if it drops. Why not have “Tooth of Zhaitan” as a dagger, for example?
The lack of trinity is nether bad – nor good. It’s just different.
Some players like the idea of defined roles and the varying playstyles they provide. And then some people the idea of everyone for themselves.
I disagree. By not having personal trade it is harder to scam others.
I never understood this argument – how is it easier to scam others? It’s actually easier right now, with the mail system and no COD function.
With an in-person player to player trade window, you can lock and authenticate before exchanging… like other games do.
So whatever the reason, it has nothing to do with scams. I gotta believe we’ll see this feature sooner rather than later.
+1
Really is amazing how this game was able to shed some of the stereotypical MMO mainstay ideas but also stay within the genre of MMOs.
That’s really pretty subjective to be honest.
GW2 didn’t really “shed” ideas as much as re-package them (nothing wrong with that), and I also feel the lack of true group play hurts it’s potential as blockbuster MMO. I’d like to see more class synergies and larger-scale content that could represent true teamwork and strategy, and serve as a mark of progression.
I know people will say “go play WoW” but that’s not what I’m asking for here. There are a few holes that could be filled to make the game more appealing to more player types.
They mentioned that they are going to open up the API to developers, I’m not sure if they’re still planning on doing it themselves.
Not having it at launch was definitely a huge let down considering the big deal that was made of it.
The latest we heard, I believe from an AMA, seemed to indicate they aren’t necessarily planning their own apps but opening up a developer API to let fans make sites and apps to work with the data.
Could be good as well, but still disappointed in the delay.
The game, despite having 80 levels, wasn’t built with “leveling” in mind… that’s evidenced also by the lack of XP if just jump from heart to heart.
It’s designed to just go out and meander, explore, take whatever comes your way, and not keep an eye on your level (because really, there’s no payoff at the end anyway.)
This will make some people crazy and some people love it. You have to decide which you are.
Targeting Behavior
This is a simple one, I think.
Change the behavior of targeting so that it selects a target upon MOUSE UP rather than MOUSE DOWN. As it is, it’s VERY easy to lose your target by clicking anywhere on the screen in the heat of battle (or even just casual questing) and very difficult or near impossible to get it back.
The reason using the left button is important in combat is that it lets you rotate your camera independent of your character.
Thanks!
- Larger Instances – One of the things holding back my guild from playing is nothing for the whole guild to do together, and progress as a team. 10-20 man “dungeons” would go a long way.
- Mounts – this would open up enormous customization potential for players, and would be a Gem store windfall.
- Diplomacy/Reputation – a way for players to earn favor among the various outposts in Tyria to unlock rewards and even more content.
- Player Housing – Full on, no-holds barred player housing system! Check out WildStar and RIFT for starters, plus legacy stuff such as EQ2 and Star Wars Galaxies
Off the top of my head… and to be clear these are suggestions for features, not “improvements” per se.
As far as actual improvements, I think we need better security, better performance, a whole bunch of UI refinement (player-addons would be nice) and mobile access to certain areas of the game.
So far as I could tell, there are no plans to gear treadmill as hardcore in GW2 as is typical for MMOs. Gear would become obsolete if they raised the level cap, sure, but it would not be on the level of “The new dungeon is out, congratulations, now you can go for the next big upgrade! See you in a month!” that is in, say, WoW (implying they update that quickly, which is hardly the case.) The best gear statistically is pretty easy to get all things considered, so raising the level cap isn’t really a big deal in that regard.
BUT! We’re in “vanilla GW2.” Just as we were in WoW back in the day, these things are small at first but compound over time.
It seems it would have to – they already stated the level will rise, and due to that player stats will rise (as set up by the current 1-80 system.)
So it stands to reason gear will then become obsolete.
I’ll just say… “there are titles in the game?!”
Agreed. I’ve had several friends leave the game because they cannot enjoy the “world” itself – it’s always go go go Go GO GOGOO! combat.
And I tend to agree with them.
I’d second this. I find it incredulous that in this day and age after watching so many MMOs and other services compromised, that security wasn’t taken seriously at launch.
I am in the same boat. I understand prioritizing hacks before refunds, but I’m getting the feeling it fell through the cracks, conveniently or not.
