I typically don’t like the words fate or destiny in anything. It sounds pretentious.

Dragon’s Watch isn’t terrible, but not my personal pick. Rytlock was mourning the loss of his guild and guild leader. It is no wonder he shot down the idea.

The system is still quite new, at least we have guild halls now.

I love your ideas though.

I, for one, would love to have some of the guild halls from GW1. The Isle of Meditation was so awesome.

I mentioned in another thread of a similar vein that we should get to build some asura gates and consoles, even if only for decorative purposes. I want to build my asuran command center!

No, never. One of the things I like most about this game is there’s no pressure to buy anything ever. I can and do buy things when I want to but that’s it. Any regular payment is not something I’m interested in. I’ve played enough games with “optional subscriptions” by now to know they’re anything but optional – in an effort to make them as appealing as possible, the devs throw a bunch of stuff in there that you’d be a fool to go without. TERA, SWTOR, ESO… BDO is only the newest example. No freaking way.

I’m glad to hear so many of you are so against it as well – the communities in the above mentioned games (aside from BDO because we all know Kakao doesn’t care one bit what it’s community thinks) are very accepting of the subs in those games, which is why they exist.

Exactly. I never feel pressured to buy anything in the gem store. I buy gems mostly to thank the devs for their hard work and because I genuinely love this game. SWTOR was one of the most restrictive games I have ever seen. I had to sub to manage my guild there. No thanks. Never again.

I have friends who wouldn’t play the game when it went free to play and I bought them the expansion as a gift. Imagine how fast they would drop the game once you introduce something like a paid subscription. They would be gone faster than you can blink

I actually didn’t like Trahearne at first as I played human and charr characters, but he grew on me as I played the various early sylvari storylines. He was a scholar forced to take up the sword and we, as his most trusted friend and commander were forced to sacrifice him.

I wanted to see similar tributes to Forgal, Tybalt, and Sieran, but with the recent update that lets us put gravestones and etch in texts in our guild halls, we can design our own tributes.

I am most interested in playing tengu and kodan. Quaggan would be awesome, but probably not practical due to their mesh.

I might be misremembering, but I thought I read that tengu use the same mesh as charr. So armor meshes could be somewhat retooled, although we have plenty of clipping issues with charr.

We don’t necessarily need to start with the Zhaitan story and shoehorn the new race in. Story could also use the old gw1 style with a message that pops up. “this happened before your arrival.”

I want to see a joke mission where all of the enemies use Npc greetings as battlecries. Imagine somebody trying to kill you while shouting, “May the stars guide you!”

That is terrifying and hilarious at the same time.

I’m so sick of my mesmer shouting that she can run as fast as a centaur because I have Signet of Inspiration equipped that I have turned off in-game audio.

That and the sylvari in the Silverwastes who keeps talking about how “if Mordremoth can attack the Mother Tree in the Grove, then it can attack ANYWHERE.” Seriously, learn some new lines. When I’m at the merchant, that line is playing constantly.

This sounds an awful lot like going for prestige in Call of Duty or Marvel Heroes and I don’t think this game is built mechanically for that. Especially with the specialization system, they could just introduce new specializations that would work similarly in the way you describe. I also don’t think people will want to do map completion more than a few times.

Guardians gain a Monk specialization with more healing focus, or a Warrior gains the Paragon specialization and gets to use spears on land. It’s the same general concept that you mentioned, but without restarting from level 1.

Also, most players would just buy a new character slot to redo map completion. Recycling is often not considered since if you restart your character, you lose the next year’s birthday gifts.

Not hating on the idea, but there needs to be some other benefit that I’m not seeing that isn’t covered by the elite specializations or just outright buying a new character slot.

Also, as for joining Zhaitan, no. I don’t see the point of playing an evil character in a game where I am clearly a hero. I think they wrote themselves into a corner with the personal story. Try writing a choose your own adventure novel. It is a lot harder than it looks, especially when you have to take into account every possible action that a player can take. That’s why for most of the personal story, our choices boiled down to: do you want to go with option 1 or option 2, with the rare option 3 thrown in and it all ties up nicely with Zhaitan’s defeat at the very end.

I imagined my charr warrior standing in Lion’s Arch with some of the remaining Pact soldiers gathered to honor their fallen Marshal. An empty coffin with a picture (or hologram) of Trahearne etched upon it as it may have been too dangerous to bring back the Marshal’s body, it was burned in the jungle. While sylvari may not have traditions to honor their dead; as Marshal of the Pact, Trahearne deserves some send off as he was well-respected by all the Orders and races. The short speech I would have given would be along these lines:

“There is no sacrifice that could be more noble than that of saving your friends and your people from destruction.

Trahearne was a hero. His life’s work was that of freeing Tyria from the Elder Dragons. He may have fallen, but as we live and breathe, we will continue his work in his memory.

In his own words: ‘The Elder Dragons are not stars in the sky. They can be counted. They can be fought. One day we will kill the last of them. Only then will Tyria be safe.’

It was an honor and a privilege to have been by your side. We will make our world safe with you as our inspiration to be something greater.

Good-bye old friend. You will be missed."

Yep, you can’t do it that way. Have to account bound the legendary to get the skin. It sucks to use two legendaries to forge Eternity, but that’s why Eternity is worth so much.

Is there a reason you need to keep the stat switching capabilities of a legendary? You can always use ascended weapons. I find that while it is convenient, I stay with either assassin or berserker stats on my greatsword 99% of the time.

The content is new. There’s no reason anyone has to do every creature in one night. Ther’s no real reason to do every creature at all, unless you have absolutely nothing else to do or you’re so crazy about achievement points that you MUST do this event.

If you want the reward for the event, do the event, and take your time. If you don’t want the reward for the event ignore it.

In a week’s time the schedules will be down pat, the moa will be buffed (the only what that dies slow) and people will not even remember these comments.

But you know, it’s day one of a new series of events. Why does everyone feel they have to get everything done on day one and why do they make it sound like the end of the world when they can’t?

That said, I got it all done today anyway. lol

I totally agree with you, Vayne. Reading the chat sometimes is toxic; I let it get to me and I felt like I had to say something in response.

Zephic.3075

It’s more about giving feedback than being harsh. I totally agree with being patient as ANet has plenty on their plates.

I love the guild halls, but it just feels so empty and lackluster with no ability to host events, or guild missions within the guild hall itself. Everyone uses it for quick and easy access to repair, merchant, bank, and once per day farm at the nodes.

Sure if the guildmaster is a creative person, he/she could come up with their own events, but with very limited tools at their disposal.

I also like the fact that they gave us increased the number of decorations to add to our halls in the last patch and I hope they are working on new and better features, but I personally haven’t heard much. If they are working on new guild features then that is great! I really hope to hear about them soon.

Like I mentioned earlier, guild missions really need a revamp. We’re still running the same missions as three years ago. I would love it if they gave us some degree of modular control over them, but that may be very far off in the future.

Bloodstone Crazed Creatures Event

Zephic.3075

When you only have two or three hours to play the game each day, five hours is a long time.

I liked the searching for bloodstone shards bit of the new achievements. That was actually quite fun.

The creatures should be spawning on every map that they can spawn on when the radar tells us that they are spawning, or the radar item needs to tell us the higher likelihood of them showing up on a map. Either way, the spawn rate is ridiculously low or on some cycle that we don’t know yet and it is not fun waiting for hours with the radar constantly showing the moa and nothing spawns.

I got incredibly lucky and ran into the wyvern before I knew what was going on and then I sat on a map with no moa and shark for hours.

I have plenty of other things to do in-game that don’t involve waiting for spawns and I disliked reading in chat from other players that: “Oh, this is just like what other MMOs do.”

My response is as follows:
1. I don’t like that about other MMOs and it is primarily why I stopped playing them. Waiting all day for a boss to appear only for the zerg to instant-kill it is not fun or engaging.
2. GW2 is better than that. We prided ourselves on being different and for the most part, I think the game is different from most other games on the market; just my subjective opinion.
3. Just because other MMOs do it is not a defense for this style of gameplay. I don’t like this, but others may like waiting for these events. I wanted to go do something else on the map, but didn’t want to wander too far in case the event spawned, so I ended up jumping up and down in place… because I was bored.

I really don’t get the silverwastes ones. When do those extra bosses appear?

Random, during the Mordrem attacks on a pact controlled outpost. Maybe there is a minimum lvl of the map/outposts needed.

I think it’s something like level 4, but the most important thing is to keep an eye on map chat. Other players will kindly announce a legendary when they spawn.

I have seen them spawn at low levels. So it is RNG. The problem is that people kill the legendaries way too fast. If you are on the other side of the map, you have no chance of getting there in time.

The reason you had 48+ points is because you probably had all the achievements from LS2 done as well. For those who do not have LS2, they are at a huge disadvantage, 9 mastery points can be obtained from LS2 alone.

At least 4 of the mastery points are RNG bosses based in the Silverwastes. And another five are locked to Triple Trouble, one for each head and two for the meta achievement, these three bosses doesn’t get a lot of attention these days.

So for a new player it may be difficult to obtain these mastery points. Not everyone has played for all four years.

I would love it if we could build those Asura magitech consoles that Taimi was fiddling with in LS3, or let me construct my own asura gates, even if it doesn’t go anywhere.

Crafting stations are a must. I shouldn’t have to go to a city or starting area to craft stuff for my characters or guildmates. There is no advantage for me to go to a city to craft. Crafting stations seem like a shoe-in for the Workshop Proprietor, who for some reason has no actual upgrades for the workshop (besides the Level 2 upgrade for the building) other than giving you additional crafting material nodes outside.

I feel like we need to have some tangible decorations to interact with, similar to the dragon statue and the lunar fireworks. The PvP Arena idea should be expanded to allow you to PvP anywhere in the guild hall. I had this idea where we build a spiral staircase and at the top we have a player flagged for PvP who acted like the final boss of the area and everyone else had to fight him/her. Fun stuff like this would really liven up the guild hall. Unfortunately, we can’t have this sort of activity… yet.

That said, why don’t we have guild missions in our guild halls? Or even modular guild missions where the players design them for the rest of the guild? Guild missions designed for the guild by the guild members. Personally, I think the guild mission system is overdue for a revamp. Our guild halls are large enough to hide numerous guild trek glowing circles, and people have designed incredible jumping puzzles.

I would also like to reposition my guild hall’s waypoints. Why are none of my waypoints in or even near the market/WvW area on Lost Precipice, but I have one right on top of my mine proprietor, whom I have only talked to maybe three times in total? But this might be asking for too much.

Excess HoT mastery points for LS3

We could definitely use more mastery points, in my honest opinion. Even if they are in excess, there are always those who need the easier options than doing some of the harder adventures. Some of us just don’t have the reflexes for them.

Can we get some more for Central Tyria? I always felt it was a bit unfair that four of the mastery points were locked on randomly spawning legendary enemies in the Silverwastes. I already have all the masteries unlocked, but for newer players, I can see that this can be a bit problematic, especially if they don’t have LS2.

However, the lead up to Caudecus being the confessor was weak. He just “ran away” from Divinity Reach? Caudecus was supposed to have been a master level planner with plans within his plans. I would have expected a much more complex and devious strategy from him.

I loved the interaction between Canach, our character and Rytlock. The way we said good-bye to Eir was also very touching. Taimi is awesome, as always. That final line was delivered to perfection.

Warrior for me. I love being a master of all sorts of weapons. Need DPS? Bring a great sword. Need CC? Mace or hammer. Need ranged weapons? Bow or rifle. There is almost never a situation that a warrior is not useful.

Guardian is awesome too, although without dragonhunter, they lack long range options. That is my sole complaint, but not everyone can be good at everything. I find guardian to be the easiest class to play.

For a drastic change of pace, I also run Mesmer quite often, as I like their play style. I am far from a master chromancer though. Making everyone around me fight harder and faster feels great. Plus you have a ton of utility and fun with portals.

I have every class at 80, but I always have trouble playing the elementalist and thief classes. Unfortunately, I can’t advise on raids, as I am still in the process of gearing up for them myself and after that I need to find a team

Crafting to 80?

in Players Helping Players

Not advised at all. It is cost prohibitive and not useful to have a single character with all the crafting professions maxed as you can only have two of them active and need to pay to switch. With the gem store upgrades, you can technically have up to four crafting professions active.

A single crafting profession gives about eight levels without boosters, I think. My math may be a little off, since there have been several changes made to the crafting system, since I maxed all of mine.

You are much better served by leveling with a mix of crafting, exploration, and renown hearts.

Aiming for high level crafting is useful as it is one of the easier (and guaranteed) ways of getting ascended gear, albeit more time consuming.

Question regarding LW Season 1

I would like to see at the very least the instanced segments of LS1 return. There are so many gaps between character introductions and motivations to plot relevant information, that it is perplexing and even confusing to people who missed LS1. A quick summary is not enough either by Ela or via wiki/youtube.

Was it special for those of us who were there? Undoubtably. But there are new players coming into the game all the time and they deserve to actually meet Marjory and the others in the story, not suddenly have DE2.0 suddenly call them boss in LS2 or HoT without context.

This is a game. We should play the story and not have an NPC tell us what we did during it.

Living world season 1: is it coming back?

in Living World

Posted by: Zephic.3075

Zephic.3075

I wish it would come back too. There is a huge gap in the story with many of the characters that were introduced in S1, that would seemingly drop in from nowhere to a new player starting Heart of Thorns.

Only a few of the S1 releases were actually open world events. Most of S1 story was instanced, for examples, the murder of Theo Ashford during Dragon Ball, the fight against Canach at Southsun Cove, escorting the Consortium with Ellen Kiel to their ship, Scarlet Briar’s introduction to the plot by attacking the Queen’s Gauntlet (which really needs to come back to the game), the Captain’s election instances, the fight against the krait on top of the nightmare tower, and the final fight against Scarlet in the Breachmaker, just to name a few of the story instances.

We need, at the very least, these story instances back so that the storyline actually flows properly. It would be nice if they brought back some of the other events and maps. I miss the Labyrinthine Cliffs.

Everyone only seems to remember with rose colored glasses about the Marionette, the Escape from Lion’s Arch, the Battle for Lion’s Arch and the open world events for the Nightmare Tower at Kessex Hills.

No one seems to remember hammering down signs for the first four weeks of Living World when it started.

This is unlikely, since the reason for ascended was because players were acquiring exotic gear too quickly.

I mentioned in my other thread that one of the things I would like to see is the founding of Arah, another fractal I would love to see is the period of history that the game is named after: the literal “Guild Wars”. But with so much background lore they could literally make hundreds of fractals without running out of things to do.

They could even remake the bonus missions from Guild Wars 1. (For those who don’t know about them, they were these short missions where you took control of an NPC, the missions were four in total and encompassed: Gwen’s flight from the Charr, Master Togo negotiating an end to the Tengu Wars, Turai Ossa’s victory over Palawa Joko, and Saul d’Alessio chasing out the Charr from Kryta.)

Will Magdear ever resurface?

Zephic.3075

It is quite possible that Logan doesn’t know where Rurik died, as in lore, our GW1 characters (or Mhenlo’s team) were the ones who defeated him in the Ring of Fire. It has been 250 years and details will get blurred, misinterpreted, or lost. For instance, in one of the human personal storylines it is revealed that the White Mantle are just stories used to frighten children. We, as the players, know that they were a very real threat. This is the difference between character knowledge and player knowledge.

I have to admit that I am very curious as to where Magdear ends up. If Beigarth has the sword, where is it now? Considering that Beigarth was part of the Pact and the fact that we could revive him in the Prisoners of the Dragon instance (for an achievement), was Magdear lost when the Pact airships were torn out of the sky? Or is it still safe in Hoelbrak?

It has been a long time since we got any new fractals (the last one was Thaumanova if I remember correctly). I’m wondering what is happening with the fractal team? What are they working on? Even just a few words from them that, yes they are working on something awesome that we would see in a few months would be something more than the deafening silence.

In a game so rich with background lore, surely we can have a number of new fractals, exploring the near and distant reaches of the past, present, and possibly alternate futures. Imagine going back to the point where humans first arrived on Tyria with their gods and founded Arah, or journeying with Destiny’s Edge before the team broke apart, the initial escape from Primordius with the asura, or even first contact with the Mursaat alongside Saul d’Alessio.

We could also have updated versions of the bonus missions from GW1. They were awesome and in fact are exactly what fractals are, a glimpse into the past.

I would not advising just crafting to gain all your levels, as if you need a certain craft, it will cost an arm and a leg to switch your crafting skills around, but some mix of crafting and exploration is good.

Also, since you have a level 80 run the low level fractals, if you do three of them, it rewards you with a tome of knowledge once per day. Most people run fractal level 2, 10, and whatever the daily fractal is. You don’t need agony resistance unless you are running fractal 20 or higher.

Warriors don’t need to dual wield at level 80. It sounds like you are getting confused between the new weapon you get from the elite specialization and the benefits of having an elite specialization equipped. You don’t need to use the new weapon associated with your class. It is merely a new option. You can still run greatsword on warrior and get the abilities of being a berserker. That said you don’t absolutely need to use the elite specializations strictly speaking, although on warrior specifically, why wouldn’t you? It gives you a huge upgrade to your burst skill, unless you are running a build that needs the third trait line for something else.

I have never been kicked from a party for not running an HoT build, but then again I don’t raid, so that may be the difference.

Guild hall help

Five people is enough to capture the guild hall. I managed to do it with four randoms I recruited in the LFG tool. The party composition for me was two guardians, a warrior, a ranger, and a revenant. I think the main issue was the random spawn points on Lost Precipice, but we managed to get it on the first try with a little over two minutes left on the timer.

I can’t say for the others who were with me, but I was wearing knights exotic armor with superior rune of the trooper equipped in all slots to get the extra condition cleanse from my shout utilities. My accessories were all ascended berserkers. I was one of the guardians. It’s not optimal gear, but it worked for me. The most important thing to do is to focus fire on the vine and vinetenders.

If you need help, just post in LFG. If I’m online at the time you guys decide to hall capture, I would be more than happy to help.

It really comes down to personal preference. I really like mesmer, as they bring a lot of utility to the fight. With time warp, blink, reflects, portals, clones, they are like a swiss army knife. My biggest gripe with mesmer is the fact that they have very limited ways of gaining swiftness, unlike every other class. (Revenant, I am looking at you:) )

I don’t have much experience with thief, and to be honest, I am pretty bad with both thief and elementalist, as these are the high damage, high risk classes, I spend more time kissing the dirt than fighting the monsters.

I have a character of every class at level 80, so yes I am also an alt-oholic.

Need 150 Favor. Help Anyone?

You might want to change the option of missions to PvE instead of the default, as default gives you a grab bag of missions between wvw, pvp, and pve. When the missions reset on Mondays, you’ll get only PvE missions instead of the mixed ones. If you can field three people, it usually is enough to do the easy and medium missions. I can usually solo the easy guild trek, with two others, I imagine, the medium guild trek should be pretty easy if all of you have most of the maps explored.

Guild race requires 15 people to cross the finish line. However, you can run the race with other guilds, and all participating guilds gets credit for it.

Unfortunately, I can’t comment on WvW missions, sorry.

You can no longer buy influence. That currency is gone. You can only spend whatever influence you have left over from pre-HoT. I am pretty sure guild race no longer requires an unlock as I never purchased it prior to HoT and I get it as a guild mission every now and then. This week, with pve missions selected, I did not get guild race as one of my missions, so it probably is just out of rotation this week.

If you are a member of a guild, you can run guild missions to get guild commendations. Once you have 12 of them, you can trade them in for an ascended trinket.

Rings, you can get from doing fractals. You will need 10 pristine fractal relics to get an ascended ring. Just keep running the daily fractals. You’ll usually see people in LFG asking for fractal 2, 10, and whatever fractal is the daily. Unless the fractal is level 20+, you won’t need agony resistance.

I would suggest leveling crafting as it is the easiest way to get exotic and ascended weapons and armor, as fractal drops are fairly rare. As Randulf mentioned, this is more of a long term goal, as the ascended crafting components are time gated, unless you have a ton of gold to just buy the crafting components off the trading post. However, even then you need crafting level of 500 to craft ascended weapons and armor.

Living World Season 1 and Pre-Season Idea

Season 1 absolutely needs to make a reappearance. It becomes incredibly embarrassing when I try to introduce new friends to this game and they are missing a large chunk of story. I have a friend who just recently came back to the game and he is completely confused. I sat down with him for over an hour and we just talked about what happened in this season he never saw.

So many of the current cast of characters were introduced in Season 1, that it becomes jarring for anyone who wasn’t here for that season. Ela Makkay makes a poor stand-in, and worse this is a video game and you have an NPC telling you about your deeds in Season 1 instead of actually experiencing them. Also much of Magister Makkay’s dialogue is rushed and glosses over many finer points of the season and she doesn’t even go into the captain’s election or anything on Ellen Kiel, Canach, Evon Gnashblade, the Zephyrites… I can go on and on.

Please note too that it has been two years in real time since the start of the living world idea. People will forget the details and being unable to replay or have a good log of the events from that time will create problems in the future, especially if you try to tie Season 3 and on to the events of Season 1.

Guild Influence to Guild Favor

It only works if you have 10,000 favor or more. If you have less, you can’t trade influence for favor.

If you have a few guild members, you should be able to tackle some of the easier guild missions. If you set the guild missions to PvE instead of the default mixed option, there often are some easy guild missions that can be soloed.
