This is going to sound crappy, and I don’t really mean it that way as I’m just curious. Is the Heal Power really worth it for Guardians? Do we actually have enough sources of healing(modified by HP) for it to be that beneficial?

The reason I ask is because I’m really looking for something different outside of my AH/crit/zerk setup as it seems to be an “all-in-one” kind of build that so far has been effective for everything for me. I don’t really play my Guardian in WvW because I prefer my other classes but I don’t want to invest in all of the gear unless this build proves viable.

I did some brief testing in the mists with the NPCs just to see how survivable I was and I’m not quite sure how they are set up vs PvE mobs but I was still taking quite a bit of damage. I really want to try something else desperately, but I want it to be effective you know?

Would the D/P combo that gives you stealth also give you the +2 initiative with infusion? Also, I don’t really understand 2 things. First, how is perma stealth possible with the two seconds long revealed timer and second, why would the combo field be better for stealth than X/D #5?

For one, you have to hit something to get the stealth from C&D as opposed to stacking stealth from the smoke field on /P #5.

Zindrix.1750

You litterally need just 15 points in shadow arts to get perma-stealth. Get infusion of shadows at 10 and meld with shadows at 15. Then as long as you use x/d or d/p and at least one other form of initiative regen you should be able to perma stealth. Going 30 into shadow arts is still recommended though because if you are staying in stealth that much you might as well get something out of it.

Do note that x/d requires you to hit the c&d AFTER you unstealth so you don’t get revealed and d/p requires practice to get the ideal 4 leaps in black powder.

Thanks for the advice. Are there any other traits that pair well with a stealth-heavy build?

I’m working on a perma-stealth thief for some general WvW griefing and I was wondering if there was anything I was missing. I realize I should probably go full Shadow Arts and use the utilities Hide in Shadows, Blinding Powder, and Shadow Refuge but unsure where to go after that.

What are some of the basics requirements and where so I have some wiggle room in the build? Thanks in advance for any info!

More toughness will ensure they make it to their target. No point being full glass cannon if your burst is mitigated by clones dying.

Do clones share you attributes at all besides pwr/prec for damage? I thought they all had low HP and toughness on purpose. Either way, most of the reason they aren’t making it to their target in time is from CC and I feel like they’re just too slow for WvW sometimes.

All illusions share:

  1. Toughness
  2. Precision
  3. Crit Power
  4. Condition Damage
  5. Condition Duration
  6. Boon Duration
  7. Power

Also keep in mind that your build can allow you to alter your play style. So with more toughness, where you might have been reluctant to get in close and personal with your enemies before, suddenly you can tank a lot more hits up close. So not only will your clones take those couple extra hits, you can also remain right next to your target to shatter point blank more often.

Back when I ran a shatter build, I’d spend my time rolling around and casting right in the middle of the enemy zerg. Why? Because it ensured my shatters would hit, and because I could.

Just worried that my damage and killing power is already kind of lackluster compared to other classes so if I gave up anymore stats I would lose that. Mesmers are lucky to have decent survival in a zerker build because of their abilities though I’m not amazing in 1v1.

General opinion of Portals in Jump Puzzles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zindrix.1750

Zindrix.1750

I got into an argument with other players over this and it got me wondering what the general opinion is of this.

Currently, if a Mesmer finishes a jump puzzle they can use their portal ability to bring up anyone they want to the end of the puzzle. This also gives the achievement and the items in the chest at the end.

I always believed in having at least one thing in a game being purely skill based and jump puzzles fit it pretty well. Not everyone likes them, a lot hate them but others like me LOVE them. I have done every JP in the game and have not needed a single Mesmer portal. At the same time while I put the time and effort into beating this really hard jp, people can get a free ride up if just one Mesmer does it for them giving the same reward for someone who did the entire puzzle by them self. To me this devalues the actual achievement of finishing a puzzle because a large handful of people got a friend to do it for them and didn’t personally spend the time doing it.

So is it fine that someone can carry their friends to the end of a jump puzzle they couldn’t do or should it be earned by yourself alone?

If you enjoy doing the puzzles, take that away from it instead and stop caring how other people play the game.

Right now I have a 20/20/0/0/30 (shatter) build and I was thinking about doing a 20/20/0/30/0 Phantasm build because often times in WvW my clones won’t make it to their target to shatter and I’m looking for something a little more effective.

What traits do people typically use in the Inspiration trait line? A few of them look like they’re able to be switched out. I’m using full zerk with centaur runes and 4 celestial trinkets and I don’t really want to switch up my gear too much either. Are there any other builds I could also utilize with this gear? Thanks for the help in advance.

I have done this a few times and it worked for me. Did you pick the right appearance? That is the soulbound appearance instead of the white items appearance?

Yes, that’s what I did and it even still has the same icon for it, just the actual item appearance is wrong. It’s so strange.

Are you checking the appearance by equipping it or with the preview? There is a bug with previewing transmuted items directly from your inventory where it shows as the original item. You can link the item in chat and preview it from the chat for the correct appearance as a workaround.

That was it. Thank you SO much. Saved me some sanity.

Possibility GW2 Never Gets Full Expansion

I just want to remind folks again, the features and content you’d traditionally find in an expansion will absolutely be added to Gw2. The thing we haven’t decided is what form the release of that content would be presented in, be it a traditional expansion, living world, or some other form.

Can we take this statement to mean that no “expansion” content has been worked on? Since I assume you’d have to know the method before you developed it all

That’s really question of the year right there. If there’s no content yet then nobody is going to stick around for another 1-3 years while they make it(even if they have the bi-monthly releases of achievement point grinding).

They aren’t going to tell us if they are working on an expansion, because then we will want to know when to expect it, what it’s story is, etc, etc. (Stupid filter) Until they are close to rolling it out, we won’t hear about it simply because of how the community reacts.

It would be extremely foolish of us to assume that they have not worked on an expansion to some extent. We have been told repeatedly that it is not their focus right now. Keyword, there is focus. Doesn’t mean they don’t have people working on it though. It is likely that they have stories roughed out, and some general components done or in the works, but until they are ready to start hiring voice actors or have a significant portion of the work done, they will continue to tell us that they aren’t focused on an expansion.

Maybe they really are just unsure how to release it like you say. Maybe they’re fighting with NCsoft about what is going to be more profitable? Who knows.

Either way they have their “expansion content” laid out for them. How many dragons are left? Boom done. More likely they’re having a headache over balancing new classes they will hopefully add, but they should honestly give up the dream of this being a “serious” pvp game and just add the classes.

Possibility GW2 Never Gets Full Expansion

I really hate Living story. Its cool and free of course. But I don’t want to think I’m forced to play a game because “If I don’t play now, I’ll never get the chance to play it again”.

I would really prefer some sort of expansion chapter (Even if its one per year), and living sotry goes on with the other sorts of releases we’ve saw around this year.

Actually, I’m about to quit game. I’m estressed to feel obligated to play temporary content. I’m tired of think that I need to be tied to game, if I don’t want to lose content.

There’s some really good points in this. So it makes sense for them to have LS and daily time-gated content to bring people in regularly, but for the people that take breaks is this a huge deterrent to come back?

Ever since they made achievement points so valuable(even more so after MF removal) I’ve kicked myself for skipping a lot of the LS content. Most of the rewards for completing it was for some cosmetic thing which I generally thought was ugly in the first place, but if those achievement points will never be able to be earned again then I might see a reason for people to not want to take breaks OR never come back because they’ve already lost so much.

This content is turning non achievement grinders into achievement grinders and most people aren’t happy about it(I know, don’t play the game if you don’t like it). But it’s scarier to think that this game which was made for “casuals” is certainly less friendly in this way with permanent account bonuses based on completing frequent temporary content. It’s an interesting dilemma: keep current players or permanently lose others(which is more profitable to Anet?).

Honestly they should just fix the whole warrior/zerk/defiant/red circle/whatever problem they’re having with dungeons.

I still do not understand at all how warriors do exponentially higher damage than any other class in PvE. I can’t get any of my characters near that kind of dmg in zerk gear.

I’ve heard from a source that they were redoing them in order. Hence why AC was first and CM is supposedly next. However, the dungeon team has been reassigned and I don’t know if they are back to working on it. Especially with all of the blowback and negative feedback from when they “revamped” AC and it’s still riddled with bugs and issues that even hinder completion of some paths.

Imo, they could fix some of the dungeons/paths/bosses before they try adding in any new ones. Besides Arah, there’s no need for the rest of the dungeons to have such varied durations to complete them when they all reward the same.

Actually, outside of Arah p4 and SE p2, every dungeon path takes anywhere from 6 to 15 minutes. Most of the dungeon paths lie around 10-13mins.

The big problem is that some paths take more skill and coordination to get those times than others.

Shameless link to my post regarding dungeon rewards

That’s not entirely true. Even if you’re running faceroll warrs there’s several dungeon paths that are just unnecessarily long(much longer than 6 mins, especially with a non warr pug). Sometimes the mechanics even slow you down on purpose(AC P2 for example). But just to mention a few, Hotw P2/3, some of the TA paths(can never get them straight), 2 of the CM paths(1 and 2?), and CoE(2 or 3, don’t remember). I don’t make a habit to run the longer paths anyways now since the token rewards are account bound instead of character bound.

I tried to get a headpiece item from a necro and I transmuted it onto a white lvl 10 helm using the appearance from the starting item and the skin part didn’t transmute. I mean, it did, but it’s the skin of the lvl 10 headpiece so the transmute didn’t really work.

I spent a lot of time in Guild Wars 1 but I’ve also spent a lot of time in other MMOs, and let me tell you, Anet innovated HUGELY in Guild Wars 2.

Where? Point to the major innovations. No trinity? Old as dirt and possibly hasn’t been good for the game (I’d argue it’s the core issue that has resulted in the zerk or go home group optimization). The trinity was the innovation over the old systems present in standard D&D ruleset games. MMOs created them, GW2 just walked back from it. You had characters that could heal, or were stronger defensively, but no trinity, just as with GW2.

Dynamic Events had been done, nearly identical implementations, by previous MMOs.

The innovations that remain are small things like Guild Missions.

I’ve played many other MMOs, some of them for years. Aion, Lineage 2, World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, SWTOR etc. etc., normally either all classes at max level for each or at minimum a couple for the more grindy games. It’s not that I just don’t have the breadth of insight that you do, it’s that I don’t find flattery for the sake of flattery useful. There were flaws in GW1, but they deserved all the praise and success they earned for what they did right. They deserve the same for GW2, but it’s not in the department of innovation. It’s more cookie-cutter MMO than GW1 by a long shot. It fits just perfectly alongside every other MMO on the market, GW1 still stands out like a sore (but amazing) thumb.

Saying you can’t take someone seriously because their opinion differs from yours doesn’t strengthen your arguments. It just makes you look like a Guild Wars 1 fan boy, in the same way I look like a Guild Wars 2 fan boy.

I say I can’t take you seriously not because you disagree, but because the statements you made are eye-roll worthy.

You don’t play GW2 just like you played GW1. No one does. They can’t. They’re not the same game and have almost no gameplay mechanics in common. You can’t look at the list of things that are unique about GW1 and the things that are unique about GW2 and say they’ve innovated equally.

Yes, I loved GW1. I also loved a majority of WoW’s existence. I played nearly as many hours of Diablo 2 as I did either. Team Fortress 2 I probably have a couple of thousand hours in. I’m a fan of amazing games. GW2 is another amazing game. My point is that it’s a different game. It’s not GW1 with a fresh coat of paint and quality of life improvements. It’s not GW1 for the modern world.

I may not agree with you 100% about how revolutionary GW1 was(I don’t think it set out to be different, but rather a Co-OP RPG that was “safer” than a subscription MMO and had a lower development budget), but you’re certainly very insightful. You’ve said some things better than I could have and I’ve played about the same spectrum of MMOs that you have.

From a constructive criticism perspective: I honestly feel that not enough information and guidance is given during the ‘clockwork’ story-line and events.

I appreciate that some people like to explore and figure things out on their own. But for many players, being given no specific location to look, or event location indication is a significant problem.

I think an MMO needs to cater to casual players with these story-mode things.

I would think for the main story lines – that more info and guidance be given. For example locations on the map, or specific areas highlighted.

Smaller, side-related, or achievement-related, challenges remain undisclosed and ‘mysterious’. To allow the players who like a challenge have something to do after the main story arc.

This will ensure everyone is included in the important things.

Would you agree with this feedback?

I agree with you completely as I look at every new LS update and stare at the achievement screen trying to figure out where to go and what to do, but I have a solution! Just go directly to Dulfy’s site and she usually has everything outlined by the time you log in to begin this nonsense.

For example, here’s her coverage of the Clockwork stuff:
http://dulfy.net/2013/08/20/gw2-clockwork-chaos-invasions-and-achievements-guide/

She does a really good job and it really caters to people like me who don’t want to deal with all of the confusion and poor tool tips on the achievements.

The day I stop caring about the quality of GW1 is the day I stop playing online games forever.

I’m still surprised how many people were so impressed with GW1. It was ok when it first came out, but it was quickly eclipsed by other, better games. I realize it wasn’t really an MMO and those comparisons are unfair, but it drew from mostly the same player base.

That being said, the only thing I really miss from it are the class roles, skill variety, and some of the organized PvP matches(Jade Quarry, Fort Aspenwood, Alliance Battles). At this point in GW2 I’m really missing having more build variety and I make up for that by playing multiple classes. The problem with this is being punished via gear hikes for not being able to gear my all of my characters.

Btw, I agree with the OP, I should have “Lowered Expectations” like you say. The Disney vs GoT reference makes sense.

Vials of Powerful Blood could be obtain by opening bag or looting from monster.

I’ve been playing since November and I’ve farmed quite a bit. Still don’t have 250 Vials of Powerful Blood. Even did the skelk farming during the SS event and I haven’t sold any.

Right, and I have a legendary which requires 250 vials of powerful blood. I farmed some and bought the rest from the market with money I made doing everything else in the game. It’s not required to farm every single item you need. Sort of why the market place is there.

If people insist on farming everything, then they’re going to spend a much longer time than they have to getting what they need.

Oh sure, I could afford that on 1-2 of my lvl 80s, but what about the other 5? Right now I only have ascended amulets on most of my 80s(via WvW tokens/laurels) but the rest of the trinkets are just plain old exotics. Legendaries are optional and only for egos so I don’t have to have one of those, but I sure do need those mats for several other things.

It’s ok though, as it seems Anet only wants people to play with 1 character anyways. I’m sure the Ascended gear hike will only prove that once it goes live. (I’d be ok with playing 1 character if there was such a thing as build diversity or deeper class playstyles)

The problem isn’t really with the players though. If you remember how Anet changed Dynamic Events to scale with the amount of players so that they could nerf the Pent/Shelter farm. Well then players stopped doing events and bailed out of Orr because it wasn’t rewarding at all. So then Anet changed it so that events(Champions) have value and players are back to doing events. Keep in mind, all the while, Anet has been nerfing every other marginally profitable farm that existed, so this is the product of this farm nerfing mentality.

I did a small amount of research and found that the ember event keeps the Gates of Arah event from completing to fruition? I could be wrong. If anything, I’ve HELPED the integrity of the zone. Hehe.

It doesn’t matter what it is. What matters is that you intentionally did something (again doesn’t matter what it is) for the sake of griefing others. It doesn’t matter what they are doing or what you are doing. It matters WHY you are doing what you are doing and in this case it was to grief others which you admitted and submitted proof of yourself.

You’re right. It almost seems like it’s a part of human nature that people get off on griefing others. People do play Eve after all.

This guy just did it for the sake of completing the event, which for some reason in his eyes is benevolent? Maybe it has to do with the whole TC RP stuff(I don’t understand RP) and that was the reason he wanted to complete it, but it’s certainly more likely he was just getting jollies out of griefing.

Can’t mesmers trait so they get speed boost per active clone? Every weapon set has clones available. Spam the skill and grab a speed boost. per clone, you should have quite a boost, no?

The issue is mobility out of combat— keeping up with your party, a zerg, or exploration in general. Clones can only be summoned in combat.

Also focus’ swiftness stacks with nothing and doesn’t last very long.

This.

Also, everyone knows that played mesmer since release that the fix to focus #4 was a lazy fix. Along with the guardian staff #3, Anet just put duct tape on the problem of mass group swiftness by just making a “new” swiftness buff that didn’t stack instead of limiting the ground effect skill to a certain number of players. This isn’t the only place where Anet takes these kinds of shortcuts FYI.

What’s so profitable about champ farming? After the new weapon skins reach saturation on the TP then what’s left? Occasional rarer mats on the TP? Weren’t lodestones and certain T6 mats already too rare? Go make a legendary(but I won’t).

For wvw?? NO. It’s a pvp/competitive environment. Are you insane or not very smart?? And MOUNTS?? What on earth are you thinking buddy. NO.

If you want speed in wvw hang around someone who can provide it for you, just like how mes can provide portals for others and they can’t. Which you should be doing anyway as you’re meant to be combining classes together to make use of their abilities.

So mesmers should just hang around warriors, eles, and rangers in WvW? You still haven’t provided a reason as to why every other class is able to move around in WvW AND PvE much faster than mesmers. Some maps are just really annoying to travel through to get to where the fight is happening and it’s boring/pointless. Funny how you’re questioning my judgement as it seems you mostly likely only play a warrior by smacking your face on the keyboard.

If every class didn’t already have access to a high swiftness uptime or a signet then maybe I would agree, but right now the only “tactical” advantage to swiftness is when you’re trying to run away from a mesmer since they don’t have more than 12s on a 25s CD.

Someone has to be slowest.

Should i make a post crying about unfairness of warrior lacking stealth, and clones, and i would like backstab too. Oh yea, deathshroud on my warr too, where is it? I also want to be able to use staff on my warrior, and i want everything every other class has.

Anet?

p.s. Mesmer is what mesmer is, if you dont like it roll something else that has alot of swiftness.

Your comparing unique profession abilities to a boon that is widely available to everyone except mesmer. Not exactly an equivalent comparison.

There is also boon called protection that all classes have acsess to except warrior. There is also another boon available to all classes but necro, its called stability.

OP is asking for more power on already top tier class, which is egzactly what i was asking for warrior. Difference is, i wassn’t serious about it.

Don’t need protection when you have Endure Pain.

Also people need to reread the OP. Mesmers don’t really need “combat mobility” it’s more about a speed increase from getting to point A to point B. Every single other class has easy access to longer durations of swiftness or a speed signet and mesmers just get the shaft. I have 6 characters at lvl 80 and I still agree that mesmers could use SOMETHING for getting around WvW faster since Anet isn’t going to make mounts anytime soon. This is extremely noticeable since I have played other classes, if you haven’t then maybe you should rethink your opinion before you post.

I’m sorry, but mesmers do not need a 25% speed boost. Holy kitten, they have some of the best in-combat mobility in the game, why the hell would they need a perpetual speed boost on top of it? Oh, right, people can’t stand the idea of the warrior class having some sort of good trait that everyone else can’t do better.

Thieves and D/D Eles have far better combat mobility, period. This isn’t about the War being better at running, so all other classes be jelly.

Mesmers and Necros have the worst mobility. I really see no reason why, it’s not like they are OP so let’s make them slow.

Combat swiftness can be traited in most professions, if not all. But, you’re already slowed in combat. That 25% signet in combat isn’t really useful anyway. It’s pretty much about running from point a to point b.

Mesmers ability to get away in combat is pretty much dependent on blink and maybe the staff skill 2….

When i run on my mesmer, i’m using the booster to get the 15%, but it’ll start becoming costly once i run out. I hate traveling on my mesmer, not to mention blink still has kittened up animation.

Necro’s still have a speed signet and a utility that grants them 30 seconds of swiftenss(which is a lot). They don’t have crap for stability or vigor but those are separate debates.

I dont know about engis, dont play them nor ever seen them.

Engy can use a single Adept Major trait to get perma swiftness. They don’t have much of anything else that helps them move faster, but 100% uptime is 100% uptime, which is a hell of a lot better than what Mesmer gets.

100% uptime if you run kits, which pretty much negates all elixir builds, turret builds and gadget builds. Because thats the requirement on that trait- that you are wearing a kit for the movement speed increase.

So, 100% uptime for only a percentage of the population? Awesome.

I don’t think you have an engineer because you have NO idea what you are talking about.

I have a lvl 80 Engi and I have this trait. It’s only 10 points and I felt like I “wanted” it in WvW as opposed to “needing” Centaur runes and always having a focus on my mesmer. How the engi trait works is when you equip a kit do you get the 5s(depends on boon duration) of swiftness. So you don’t always have to have it equipped, I just equip it and remove it to maintain it.

Now besides that single trait, here’s all of the other mobility options:

  • Rocket Boots (vastly improved after a recent patch)
  • Slick Shoes utility skill
  • Elixir B for swiftness
  • Elixir B chance of swiftness on utility skill
  • Rifle Jump Shot
  • Elixir Gun/Rifle “backwards jump” abilities

Anyways, I agree with the OP. I have 6 lvl 80s now and my mesmer really does feel the least mobile out of all of them. It’s really noticeable in WvW just trying to get around I feel extremely slow. I don’t feel as if mesmers need it for escaping however, there are other classes that escape SO much better(perma stealth thief?). I hate having to always have Focus equipped and I can’t slot ruby orbs or other runes in my armor. It’s really just the way things are and I don’t feel as if other classes really have this kind of weapon/rune requirement that mesmers do. I’d really like to be able to equip a pistol/torch/sword sometime!

I don’t really understand the perspective, but just by the way things have panned out it seems as if Anet prefers not to support the idea of people playing alts(even though the classes are so shallow I would die of boredom if I had to stick with just one).

Why is Dagger autoattack damage so low?

It’s not just dagger auto attacks. I recently went full zerker on my ele finally and I realized the damage still isn’t that great compared to the other classes I play. Even though eles have good utility and some ok survivability skills, I still feel like I’m giving up a lot for the little damage I do comparatively.

shatterstone should go back to its GW1 version

That would be awesome. However, it was an elite skill, so for a normal weapon ability it might need toned down to something like “hits for small amount of dmg, chills for 2 secs and hits for small amount of dmg again”. Seems like since they removed hexes(curses) the variety of skills is very bland.
