Cast the skill on a mob, it’ll show up as 12(ish?) seconds.
Didn’t think that would work. Thanks for the tip. It started counted down from 11 secs after I cast it.
Says it does on the wiki, but isn’t showing up on the tooltip. Was wondering if it’s just a tooltip bug or if it has been changed.
Is this a joke thread? Ranger is a “top tier” dungeon profession? ROFL. This has to be sarcasm right?
(edited by Zindrix.1750)
When was the last time it was open on NA? Do people do temples anymore? I need some freakin Cavalier gear.
Where did this eBay eternal crew come from? kitten I knew SBI was PVEing their kittens off but holy god that map
What does PvE have to do with Eternal? Also, they’re all pugs.
Yikes SB has some terrible roamers. I couldn’t 1v2 this pair of awful ele’s because they had to call a third in. They were in [COLD] and some other nobody guild.
And a PTR would ruin the surprises included in the patch itself and I can see why they made the choice to not use this system. – somtimes yes it sucks but I don’t mind the fast fixes that come soon after to deal with it for the joy of experiencing stuff like this without every source of info being flooded with every little detail of it and noone doing much of it Live cause they all tried it on PTS.
I can tell you that not everybody shares this opinion. Even if they did a PTR, they wouldn’t have to open it up for everybody if certain people are so worried about “spoilers”. Also, such information could be easily avoided.
Anyways, there’s so many bugs and issues that get pushed through every content update and then the many subsequent hotfixes…it’s just really sloppy. If they allowed some testing to be done beforehand by players or other people they can pay and hold to a NDA, then that would probably catch most of the problems. For example, this patch there has been bugs galore with the balloon towers and people are reporting it in the LS forum and devs have responded, yet it’s still broke.
Also, as far as the LS story goes, I wouldn’t mind if more people knew what to do before the update because especially with this one, I don’t even know what to do half of the time after looking over the achievement window. There’s rarely much information about where to begin or what to do or where things are. The only way I knew how to do anything was from the people that had read Dulfy(and yes she apparently gets early access to some things) and they share their information in region chat.
Please, please, skip several living stories to focus on bugfix.
This is a great game. I enjoyed it every single minute I played it, but the more you release, the more you break existing things and we don’t see them fixed.
There’s this methodology named release early, release often. You’re following it nearly to the letter and it’s good! But the main problem with this methodology is that it introduces bugs more often too.
I would ironically say that the only permanent content that you add are the bugs, but well, I see GW2 evolving with each release and I like it and so far the contents outweighs the bugs.
Please take your time to polish the game and actually test it, even old features, because that’s where the bugs are the most introduced, not the new content. There will be a time where I’ll estimate the cup will be full and I will leave. I don’t know when or what will trigger it but currently I wish it’s really the latest possible.
You bring up some good points. A PTR would go a long way to help a lot of these problems.
Anet is starting to use more and more timegates because they can’t come up with any captivating content instead.
I’ve been waiting for it to open as well, checking the sites that run the API occasionally. I honestly think they should just move those dam karma vendors to LA and give up on this horrible temple idea that nobody cares to do.
The thing is, if you’re not factoring in WvW, guesting is perfectly viable and SOLVES the problem. No one is bound to their server unless they’re stubborn or lazy.
You can guest to any busier server, without transferring. I don’t see this is an issue (though I do love the underflow idea).
But I did mention WvW. What are they going to do about that?
Doesn’t matter anyways, it got moved to the suggestions forum to die.
gw1 had a cool district system
like so many things, gw2 threw it away to make room for more “mmo” features
Districts might be ok if they allowed more than 20 people in a single instance.
It’s still possible, but it’s pretty obvious they didn’t try it with a necromancer once. It’s way harder than it is for any other class.
With as many bugs as there always are, I’d be surprised if they test anything.
Did one of those torch thingers and it counted for my achievement in the LS, but didn’t count for the daily. Is it bugged?
The main problem with population imbalance concerns WvW. Any other content can be done via guesting.
If you play dungeons, there isn’t an issue. You can play cross server.
If you PvE, you can guest to any server and join in the fun with whoever you want.
I agree about WvW, however new people may not know about guesting or using gw2lfg.com to find dungeon groups. If you start playing the game on a “high” population server then realize it’s almost barren in most of the zones, you might give up on the game.
That’s a great word for it^ & function. Might be difficult to pull off though.
.
We need right now, is more accurate Population POLLING at the transfer screen.
Anet’s cooking the numbers by apparently only using Peak Value Logins or something lame. You can tell b/c every single server shows the same exact population @ 5pm Primetime that it shows at 5am in the morning. That’s a big fat lie and they need to stop big fat lying about it (just to keep their stupid Gem costs up on Transfers)
That was basically one of my suspicions about it.
Unfortunately there isn’t much ArenaNet can do about this problem, as it lies with the players and not with the population itself.
Players play when, how and where they want to. There could easily be a full realm where the actual world itself is dead simply because the players only wanted to stand in Rata Sum.
A great example is World of Warcraft. WoW claims to have 7 million subscribers, yet the servers will be merged in the next patch because most of them are completely dead.
Hopefully the mega-server in Elder Scrolls Online will be good enough that it will be a must for other MMOs to have. There already is an overflow system in GWII so why we have so many realms instead of just a few massive realms with lots of overflow systems is beyond me.
I think with the right incentives and/or server merges that happen in a timely fashion can alleviate the population issues without creating the “sinking ship” MMO phenomenon.
This issue in its current state is not being addressed. I’ve played games where they have waited too long to merge servers/populations or create incentives for players to transfer. If the players have already decided that the game is a sinking ship then they will just cease to play altogether and this can happen at a rapid rate. This is a modern day MMO, and GW2 is not immune to this effect in the way that GW1 was.
Perhaps Anet is holding back on doing something because they are benefiting from the paid(gem$$) transfers and creating a source of profit from that. If this is the case I would assume that the loss of potential income of new players joining the game and continuing to play or current players enjoying the game and buying gems would be greater than the amount they would receive from paid transfers.
The other option would be that Anet simply does not know what to do yet and is working on it. It’s possible that Anet doesn’t have the right metrics or even know how to analyze or handle them. Maybe they’re working on some incentives that wouldn’t be too imbalanced? Maybe the guesting system is a wrench in the process? I can only speculate here but my best guess is that they’re just unsure of how to handle it or are unaware of the severity of the population issues some servers are having.
TL;DR Server population needs to be addressed soon and is Anet holding back on purpose or unaware?
(edited by Zindrix.1750)
This isn’t a whine “my server is dead” thread however my server is headed that way. Server populations need to be addressed sooner than later or the repercussions are going to be more permanent.
I’m sure you’ve seen the “I want to transfer to TC” threads and the like, but those are just the first signs of imbalanced populations. People want to move and play on more active servers for obvious reasons. Because of this, the amount of transfers, guests, or people that are just simply quitting is going to be happening at a much higher rate.
The players that are most affected by this are the people who enjoy:
- WvW
- Dungeons (and don’t use gw2lfg.com)
- Open World PvE
- New Players – New players will generally not want to play on a low population server and may not give the game a chance if they feel that it is already dying.
What’s being done right now is that paid transfers(via gem$$) are adjusted based on the population of the server you are transferring to. I don’t think that this is enough because some people(especially new players) may not want to spend the gems or have the gold to transfer. There are no incentives whatsoever to move to a lower population server at this time.
The population listed in the server window is extremely vague and the general population does not know what these metrics are based off of. Right now on NA servers we can only see “High”, “Very High”, and “Full”. No doubt that the full servers are actually seeing a healthy amount of activity but the others may not. These metrics don’t mean anything to the general population because we have no idea what they’re based off of: Monhtly/Weekly/Daily logins, “active” accounts, total accounts, current number of active players? Sometimes I wonder if Anet has a complete idea of their own metrics or are purposely hiding them for some reason.

You can only loot the chests until you’ve completed Balloon Tower Tourist achievement. We’re looking into the pirates.
It’s bugged.
Here’s what happened to me if it helps:
Did the balloon event north of the Krytan WP. Didn’t loot the chest because I didn’t know it was up there. Did the balloon event in Altar Brook Vale and saw the chest and got it. Went back to the balloon north of Krytan WP and saw the gate open, went up to the top and the chest was open. Decided to do the whole escort event again and it was still open. Can’t loot that chest now.
I only have 1/5 of the Balloon Tower Tourist achievement.
I had a warrior do this to me the other day that I was kind of dueling with in WvW. I had 95% HP at the time it happened, and it hit me for like 14.8k. I’m upscaled from lvl 60 in full zerker gear so no +Vit. I had thought I had got hit with siege or something since I was so close to the castle but sure as kitten it was Kill Shot in my combat log. Also, it was an Asuran and I couldn’t tell that it was kneeling.
Someone said the crates were still dropping after the event but I don’t know if the tickets are still in them or not. Also, the vendor in LA doesn’t have the weapon skins on them, that vendor is still in SS.
Everything about the scepter feels just a touch to slow. The auto-attack travels slowly. The block has a delay before the clone triggers. And the channeled attack has a pretty long delay before it starts doing it’s damage.
Still, it’s my preferred weapon to pair with the pistol because I prefer to fight from range. So it’s a matter of getting used to it, but it would be awesome if it were just slightly faster.
If you have a condition damage build, the torment on block can do a lot of damage.
I agree with everything you mentioned. It is just kind of slow overall, and I wish that Anet would take a look at it and clean up the animations or reduce the cast times on the #1 chain/speed up projectiles. I also prefer to attack from range so I’m limited to this weapon as the only ranged MH we have.
Seems like the animation time before the channel is unnecessarily delayed before the damage/confusion begins. Is this on purpose?

Is my only guess.
Today I joined a group for CoF and someone else created the dungeon. I clicked on the button to join and it did nothing. I relogged, switched chars, left zone, left party. Nothing worked. Is there a solution or work-around for this? What even happened?
This isn’t the first issue I’ve noticed, but it’s the first time it has affected me like this. Outside of the obvious problem with accidentally joining an EU group there’s been a myriad of other party/dungeon problems when trying to enter. I’m about to blame the whole “dungeon creator” function but maybe that’s not it either(although I wish that was gone).
Do we have to buy the wallet with gems? Or is it just a game feature?
lucky for Arenanet to not have good competition right now.
QFT.
(Not saying that the celestial gear issue is the sole reason this quote is accurate though)
Team stealth to me is worse than a thief annoyance. A team appearing on top of you out of no where with instant massive lag and 10000 status conditions on you, oh what fun.
Veil at most lasts 3 seconds.
Refuge lasts roughly 10 seconds, but ofc it could just be a portal bomb + veil
Completely forgot about that. Probably because most thieves in WvW are using it solo and could care less about teamwork.

If they renamed stealth to invisibility it would be more honest what it is.
Mesmers even get a skill called “Mass Invisibility” yet it grants stealth. Go figure.
I clicked on this really hoping it was going to be a Trahearne bashing thread. I was sadly disappointed.
Isn’t it obvious though? BL chest “sale” = more gem$$$.
I’m also voting for Kiel out of spite.
make reveald last 6 or 9 seconed and be aplied each time they leave stealth and lower the amount of times stealth can stack or how it works when stacking stealth, that will remove perma stealth.
This might just be the most simple idea, but it could really work. I think 10-15 secs would be more reasonable though. Thieves would still be able to come out of nowhere and BS-stun you to 50% hp so it might be an ok compromise.
At the very least, stealth could keep them in combat for the duration, and maybe even like 10 seconds after so their speed and regen are slowed. That probably isn’t enough though as I think the main issue is the complete “I win” functionality it has in regards to just resetting or ditching a fight that doesn’t go their way.
I don’t disagree with much of anything that’s been said here but there’s no way ANet will apply a meaningful change to stealth, ever.
The WvW traps weren’t enough?
/sarcasm
——————————————————————————————————————-
Also, I think if they altered stealth to have a counter, it would encourage MUCH more build diversity in the pvp/wvw thief community. Right now there’s no reason to not spec glassy perma-stealth.
Stealth in itself isn’t such a big deal, but its the ability to completely reset a fight that is OP. It completely kills the ability for a sustained dps build to kill a thief.
Basically this. There needs to be some sort of counter, and right now there isn’t. In other games stealth lasted longer but there were ways to detect it or knock people out of stealth via damage.
There are some good ideas in this thread for counters and I’d like to suggest that maybe if they have a condition on them when they go into stealth, perhaps you could still see the damage numbers tick off of them(even though you won’t have them targeted) and if you hit them with AoE.
Another zerg server! Fun!
Also, this one spawn camps so that’s even better?!?
(though it was fun watching them kitten into the 1 shot NPCs)
(they censor d:e:r:p? my god Anet…)
(edited by Zindrix.1750)
Well this just sucks. Are there any consumables or food people use to circumvent our lack of mobility/swiftness?
It seems really silly that our only practical access to swiftness functions this way. Especially because all kinds of shouts and warhorn skills all stack up huge amounts of swiftness…why wouldn’t they just reduce the number of people it affects?
Also, this kind of leads me into a side-rant about mesmer. I really didn’t enjoy my mesmer in pve because it seems like so much of the class is wasted on NPCs, however I LOVE playing it in WvW. The issue is that every(literally every one) other class has better options for swiftness or signets/traits that increase speed. We have blink, and I like that skill, but I feel so chained to Temp Curtain that I can’t equip other offhand weapons that I would like to try out in WvW. Even then, a lot of mesmers are using Centaur runes just to get around better. I’d like to have more mobility options.
I’ve noticed when other mesmers or myself use Temporal Curtain, the boon duration of Swiftness doesn’t stack like other skills. I even have to wait for my swiftness(from TC) to run out before I cast it again.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a known issue?
CD actually has some impressive roamers considering the mentality of higher pop servers is usually zergfest. BPs roamers could take some lessons from you guys.
Or simply revamp some mobs my reducing their health bar and increasing their toughness so they are more vulnerable to condition damage instead of direct damage.
makes sense. And remove defiant.
Though I agree they should do something to make cc more viable, they simply can’t remove defiant because boss would simply be chain cced to death without any chance to do something.
Actually…..that might require a little more effort than a zerker build spamming 1 with their face on the keyboard.
Oh BP. Are you guys still caught up with all the trash talk all those weeks ago?
And I love how you guys complain about all the comments in our 13 week long adventure together then in your very next matchup, you sound just like us to your new competitors.
We are just playing our Big Brother role with you guys just like how Maguuma does with us :]]]]]]]]]]]]]]
Its true, but we will never admit it. Ehmry did make us better. But we only got better to find better ways to destroy you :P
I like this guy, Noodica too. They get it.
Thank you sir
, I’m really proud of borlis, we continue to improve and beating Ebay this week is a huge accomplishment seeing as we got crushed by you’s for what was it, 13 or 14weeks straight? x)
The week isn’t over yet. Also, if anybody else is also blindly unaware, EBay has like 70% of the WvW population of BP, and about 50% of CD…yet they refuse to fight eachother in their BLs.
Maybe it’s just this week because we were up against Zerg Coast last week. Who knows.
This video really sums it up:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?list=UUJTE1U_RsWh9Nl2hMZxMu5w&v=BBxStGB6-UE
(if you have 10 mins, it’s a really good watch)
Anyways, I think what the OP was saying, was that dungeons are very 1 dimensional and that’s what the video explains. Anet originally wanted a different version of the trinity focus on support/control/damage instead of tank/heal/DPS. They apparently gave up and now damage is all that’s required. We ended up with that awesome “defiant” ability and support means almost nothing while control is completely absent.
EG is a great support kit, as Zindrix said. It is also great in condition heavy builds. Things won’t die quickly, but you can easily outlast mobs by circle strafing and kiting.
Also, as Zin indicated, FT has some good synergy with EG if you take Deadly Mixture (20 Alc) and Fireforged Trigger (20 Marksman). Also, if you are that deep in Marks, you can also grab Juggernaut for those times you need to be a little beefier.
Thank you for articulating what I was clearly too lazy to look up and explain further
(although, I think you mean Firearms instead of Marksman, and Juggernaut is available with 20 points spent)
The damage on Elixir Gun isn’t super viable by itself. It’s a very good utility kit that benefits groups/allies more so than solo pve. As far as a build goes, some of the same traits that benefit EG also benefit(or in the same trait line) as Flamethrower. I think if you did 20 in the precision tree and 20 in the vitality tree you would have access to most of the traits that buff EG and FT.
Guess you didn’t read my full response. I said to AoE the area in which you are standing, or where your ally is being attacked. That way they can’t get close to you without being hit by your AoEs, and if they do as much damage as the one that attacked OP, that one condition should be enough for them to run. ( i’ve run full glass as a thief, i know how it works) But either way, Engineers are like the pure counter to thieves… You got turrets (which completely mess them up), bombs, grenades, flamethrower…. Conditions tend to rip up thieves, especially glassy ones.
I did, and it does make sense as that’s what I do when I know there’s a thief around. I was talking about them running away because I will never be able to kill a thief who has decided to bail.
I will only use Axe for PvE, mainly because I don’t like the range for WvW, and vulnerability is more of a benefit to PvE as well.
I’m definitely getting Force, but for my secondary I’m still up in the air. The Frailty suggestions do make sense though…
