Having a appropriate icons that actually mean something would help, when I first started I was like;

Why do I care about this and ignored it entirely if was say a “?” then I would have know ah-ha help.

What is required is not a stop gap redesign but a tutorial ‘area’ in which any player of any level can return to in the PvE world to learn things, much like the one the PvP side has which would be a good segway into the PvP, maybe even just duplicate the map but tone it for PvE.

Now what would help a new player learn stuff, would be to expand on the “training areas” of the starter zones – there are areas more or less like that in each. Add in permanent combo fields, with bundles nearby with leap, blast and shot skills, with a npc nearby explaining details. This would allow the new player to easily experiment with the mechanics – much better than reading some text blurb appearing on level up, wouldn’t you agree? Doing is learning, and dumbing down starter zones lessens the doing, and so, learning.

So, what we have here, is a more confusing, less teaching NPE than at launch.

Didn’t quite look at it that way and I agree, slowly I am beginning to understand why there is so much angst over this NPE.

Having seen some of the most horrific things done in Divinitys Reach fairly recently I’d say the player base even if it had such a thing is by far…far…far away from being able to ‘responsibly’ use such a thing even if it was available.

Balance where balance is due, I do think we should be able to sit on a chair, hug & play with out pets, smell gem shop opportunity arenanet… you can put pet toys in and a chair so you can sit anywhere, different styles deck chairs and so on..

I do miss feeding the bears in Wayfarer’s. But would a new player notice? Guess not.

Never mention that around me again! I thought that when I first did it before the NPE that it was most endearing and lovely thing to do, I was looking forward to doing it again with any character that might pass that way.

I didn’t realize that they’d removed it so couple of days ago, F…F..FF. “eh?” somethings wrong with my keyboard (look down, nope I’m pressing the right key F), try again to feed the poor little bear cubs, finally I figured out it had been removed..

Achievement Unlocked!

Congratulations ArenaNet :P

p.s I bet even Gaile Grey is a little upset by this change too, not that she’d say anything, she being the ranger pet lover.

I started a new approach (for myself) for leveling, ignore the personal story from level 20 on wards until 80, trash everything level (gifts?) ArenaNet so generously give you except for craft materials and keys, everything else directly to the bin and craft your own armor every 10 levels. currently L63 I hardly notice the level gating of anything.

p.s – I started trashing the armor bits arenanet hand out because I refused to be mocked, I spent a lot of time crafting my own armor, and here you are handing me something better, how dare you! lol.

nb: ArenaNet you should be encouraging me to craft.

Could it be as simple as one player wants the experience and another just wants to level ? because they are radically different ways of playing the game.

Yes I enjoyed leveling my 10 characters to level 80 under the pre-April version of the game but I opt out of leveling under this new system by not buying any more character slots. Those who didn’t or don’t enjoy leveling but want another character I guess EotM would work to get their character to level 80 (although I don’t know since I’ve never been there).

I’ve been EotM, I ended up having more fun jumping off the edge of the mists (repeatedly & videoed) than engaging in the game mechanic, but that’s me I’m not a competitive person at all.

I wonder the comments ,saying too troublesome for experienced players ?.
They dont have any of the instant level 20 scrolls or level gain scrolls .
Find that hard to believe I keep getting them dont need them so just throw away .

Now that’s just sacrilege! what a shame you can’t put them on the TP

There is something to be said for ‘pre-Searing’ you could opt out almost the instant you entered and continue on and leave the tutorial area alone, every expansion had one of sorts except of course for EOTN, I’m wondering if GW2 would have benefited from a similar area too.

The problem is the beginner systems are being enforced upon those that know the game with no option to opt out.

The way I opt out is not create any new characters.

Now you see that doesn’t effect me and it should have the NPE hit directly in the middle of my experience of the game, I’d only just brought it and level an Ele to 80, after the patch I leveled another 2, I just simply adapted.

Could it be as simple as one player wants the experience and another just wants to level ? because they are radically different ways of playing the game.

At this point she had what can be described as a mini melt down as to how confusing the requirements are. She got very frustrated at not knowing what the armour types are for, what to do with loot, why we have bank storage, what to do with crafting materials, why we needed crafting materials, what the purpose of food buffs are and all of the things that a seasoned MMO player would know instinctively.

She shouldn’t feel too left out even a seasoned veteran of “Guild Wars 1” logging over 8700 hours when moving over to Guild Wars 2 found some of these things baffling, and yes I found issues understanding to various levels of difficulty everything on her list.

With 50 or so days under my belt 3 level 80s and a few half way there, I am still quite lost on some aspects because they aren’t clearly defined;

Wiki For example does a great job of saying what they are, but the game itself doesn’t guide ‘per’ class in which direction to go to be most efficient.
Power – Increases all damage inflicted by the character.
Precision – Increases critical hit chance.
Toughness – Decreases the amount of incoming damage suffered by the character.
Vitality – Increases maximum health.

I think it was around the 45th day I finally figured out what the trait system was all about and why it is important.

I really personally don’t see all the fuss, we love the game we should want more playing it and we should be making it easy to pick up, but progress in complexity.

This is by the way by no means my first MMO my first was “Baldur’s Gate”.

I often think as I am roaming around that “I am alone”, I wonder if placing dots on the radar of where people actually are would help (not name tags, just a dot), you could always tell in GW1 if your district was full just by a casual glance at the radar, which I wonder now if this actually increased its longevity, as you would conclude “Yes, the game I play and enjoy is still popular with other people too.”, which may avoid odd threads like this.

Only way you know someone is actually in the map with you sometimes is a commander tag(s), and if they aren’t there well it can get cold lonely quite quickly.

obviously development in the last 250 years has seen improvement in boots to a point where automatic ground surface detection analysis (AGSDA) has reached a point, thanks to the overwhelming efforts of (likely) the Asura to deploy studs on contact of any slippery surface, such implementations are now so wide spread it comes as default standard in your boots.

Who are we to argue with 250 years of boot evolution, 250 years ago your ancestors had a place they could skate too, after some really savage injuries the ice was put under a good layer of solid effluent never to be slid sliding on again.

If you wish to partake in such dangerous activities may I suggest that the clever Asura (ArenaNet) whom saved countless lives with there AGSDA Boots, develop set of skiing boots, with a personal shield to keep the body parts inside at ALL times.

GW2 needs a PvP kick in the buttocks.

Screw PvE and the issues there. GW1 was initially PvP focused. Yes that changed with the expansions…slowly but surely it was clear PvE grind greatly outweighed PvP for not only updates but attention and player retention. GWAMM was the biggest con ever.

…and yet GW1 will always be remembered for me and many others for it’s outstanding PvP model, mechanics and variation.

GW2 is a one trick ride…..without GvG.The true meta.

Maybe that is something ArenaNet either are in denial about or don’t want to face, maybe they honestly have to take stock and realize they make one smashing earth shattering PvE world(s) which they do so excessively well that no one wants to leave PvE to play PvP or they have attracted player that are only interested in PvE.

If they made VR goggles good enough I’d superglue them to my face and just wake up to Guild Wars every day.

It’s pretty simple; significant complaints over a long period of time means increased chance that I, as a customer, will leave. And it works the same way in reverse. I’m not saying I matter much as one customer, but I think you’ll find that when you break it down, that’s how it works for most people.

That is how it works for me for sure, Guild Wars 2 however is an exception I’ll just flat out not play that content, Guild Wars 1 I was the same way Hall of Heroes “was” connected to favor when your area was holding halls you could go to sorrows furnace or the underworld, else you could not go.

And when it was fixed, off I went to experience Hall of Heroes and had some enjoyable experiences.

I am being honest I’ve no intention ‘yet’ of getting legendary anything, I’m more focused on getting ascended armor, and working out how the game works I exclusively want it for the title and having completed something, the ‘Gift’ will likely sit in my over sized bank vault for months before I even think about using it.

Have you ever wondered “what’s the point of gaining exp?” after reaching lvl 80 and already unlocked all skills and want more progression?

Fear not! Upon reaching lvl 80, you will now lose EXP instead of gaining them! Thus begins your ultimate leveling degression experience. As you delevel, you will begin slowly losing access to your armor, weapons, and skills. As you get closer to lvl 1, don’t forget about our NEW Featured Pack update! It will now enhance your deleveling experience by removing your ability to access the Black Lion Trading Post, Diving Goggles, Bank, Guilds, Downed State, salvage kits, and even the Chat window! Hearts that were once completed can now completely be undone by doing the stuff that the npcs don’t want you to do.

Completed the personal story and want more? Don’t worry, this deleveling experience will also continue your personal story, but, instead of rising up from the bottom of the social class to the top as the Commander of the Pact, you will now FALL down as the commander, failing each and every single mission along the way. Experience your character’s final moments and years in great trauma. Witness his/her legacy fall and be reduced from being the Commander of the Pact to a skritt’s slave and dirty pillow.

I guess everyone’s high level gear gets turned into piles of glittering dust for your Skritt Masters pillow stuffing.

In other news flying brooms, watch as thousands of people attempt to fly and fail.

There really is no reason in my mind that a player that focuses on a single game mode should be to get a legendary as it (in theory) proves you’ve at least some some of all of the game modes except sPvP.

At the risk of upsetting you too which I apologize, but owning a legendary in no way means you’ve played PvP at all, you can obtain your so called legendary right after you’ve hit 80 (even at level 1, if you don’t mind it taking up an inventory slot for 79 levels.) all it requires is real world cash, or enough gold farmed up by whichever means, no need to WvW at all in fact you never have to click the button, guess what? you can do that as a solo, and you’d never have to talk to a single person to do it either.

Again I apologize for any unintended belittling of your efforts for your own legendary(s) acquisitions, I’m sure your path that gives you a feeling of accomplishment for yourself has made you happy, but to deny others their happiness is just selfish.

I personally don’t care if they change it, but it would be nice if WvW exclusive players could get an equivalent reward without trudging through PvE. There really isn’t a big deal to do map completion and it certainly isn’t legendary to just buy it outright.

If you don’t care why even post? Then you go on to state map completion isn’t a big deal and one can just buy it. So that totally negates the issue at hand? Seriously? Why even bother posting on the topic if you care so little and choose to be so flippant.

I wasn’t saying you can buy map completion… The end result of it however is a legendary, which you can buy, bypassing that task completely. I don’t mind the WvW aspect of map completion, but i can see how people do. I was stating an opinion, like it or not and offered a suggestion for a change. I’m not sure why you’re so defensive to being with, but that’s not the point.

Further more, separating the 2 makes sense from a lore standpoint. As WvW takes place in the mist, which isn’t the “world” of Tyria itself. There are certainly players that just play WvW and don’t want to run around the map of Tyria to earn a legendary. I certainly don’t have a problem with that either.

I’m not a lore buff at all but I know the mists aren’t apart of the world, but do we know that? are they on Tyria but behind some impenetrable mist (likely powered by all the dead PvE players attempting map completion by there lifeless corps, so that’s how the dragons woke up its all you PvP players fault! kitten you!).

There are other ways to roll around this map too, have a PvE tutorial for each of the maps with poi, vista, so no need to unlock them in the real PvP world.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. World completion should have been divided.

You should have had Tyria completion as one achievement, mists completion as another achievement and if you get the both, you get an achievement called Master Mapper or Grand Master Cartographer (as in guild wars 1) or something else. I’d still make the gifts of the explorer available only to those who get the comboed title though. But I’d give different rewards for people who got the other two.

Haha vayne. You finally don’t like something of the game. Something I like. Sorry but I gigle after this, after all your ‘the new newb area updates are great’ posts, it’s time you are put into your place.

Wvw isn’t all that hard to get all 3 sides. The only requirement there is, is to study the area’s or play wvw enough to know how it works. If you just pve, and enter wvw on random times you aren’t gonna get map completion. But hey you are making a LEGENDARY with it. It should at least be a bit legendary not? I got 100% wvw completion on 5 chars, (3 others have almost completion, if i’d push them, they also have it. If you don’t know how to do it, ask help for it. But please don’t cry. It’s like saying certain content is to hard. If anet is gonna dumb down every part of the game there’s nothing gonna be left. So Keep it as it is, please Anet.

Just so you can personally feel like you’ve obtained something?

While not everyone is not going to fall in love with WvW, the point is to ensure you give it a honest try before you declare you don’t like it. Not to mention that ultimately, if you don’t want to complete the requirements for a PvX title, you should probably find some content you do enjoy doing instead and complete the titles associated with that.

Well clearly blocking vistas / pois behind locked doors isn’t doing WvW any favors either, maybe the inactive servers are an indication of those that just for intent and purpose erased the button WvW along time ago, but is there any indication of such servers that are inactive ?

Just watch an old’ish video about it from wooden potatos interesting listen.

Yes that is a very fair analysis from him and I continue to watch him answer the question of the best way for getting precursor I was a little surprised that he got all his precursors from the TP!

This leads me to think that the acquisition of legendary in the game has a lot to do with either buying gems (for gold to buy precursors or server transfers), OR RNG (waiting for that garrison to flip colors in WvW so you can map complete or waiting for MF to drop that precursor that you need). It is like “yay awesome now I deserve that legendary because the garrison suddenly flipped or yay awesome now I deserve that legendary because of my dumb luck at the MF!” Both cases don’t feel all that “legendary” at all.

Yes he articulated my point of view much better than I could.

I’m not even in the market for any legendary, or anything else that might be acquested by the finalization of map completion, but for the exception of map completion is now done for this character, because I’m by no means ready for such a thing should I even be able to build one I wouldn’t as I’ve only just figured out how to craft, my problem now is what to craft with all these stats, as I’ve no idea what is good or bad.

It’s frustrating, boring, and forced to have to toddle into WvW for MC. It would be great to have it split, I’d be happy with just PVE completion myself.

It would appear they didn’t learn one valuable lesson from Guild Wars 1, do not mix PvE with PvP in any way that will make one or the other a boat anchor to either one, oddly over time they made efforts with Guild Wars 1 to peal the 2 of them apart, when became abundantly clear that it just wasn’t going to work out. (favor of the gods anyone? anyone remember that little chestnut.) PvP was a choice with Guild Wars 1.

Kneeling!? I’ve a similar story I was naked and dead on the ground, some of my servers team found me laying there, “looks like a kitten victim!” (can’t even begin to explain how bad that looks for a game, esp. female characters I’m not one but I do play one) one of them said as they attempted to an successfully revived my corps, “yeah, I was hoping if I ran around this way people wouldn’t see me as a threat and leave me to my map completion.”

We should promote or WvW should promote that unless you can be seen actively to engage in offensive map activity that would disrupt there war effort then people should let them be, there not coursing any harm, in fact we’re watching which is a positive.

I’m an advocate of a semi-spectator mode for WvW, that is my half way line the sand.

Which is exactly the position I am in, “Gate of Madness” doesn’t even get a look in most of the time other than it’s own self named map which it mostly owns, now I suppose I could server switch for 1800 gems, and I seriously considered this until I realized that if I in time got all 8 of my toons to map completion I would have to spend 43200 gem server switching I packed that idea in quickly.

Your realize that server transfers are account wide right? It’s not per character. You can’t have one toon on GoM and another on JQ, it doesn’t work that way.

Yes I am aware of that, my maths;

(9 Classes) * (3 Sides Red / Green & Blue) = 27 for each switch cost is 1800 gems, 1800 * 27 = 48,600 gems

Time is a factor so you ‘may’ be able to get all 9 classes through on just 3 switches, but you wouldn’t be very relaxed while doing this, the figures above are based on “absolute” worse case scenario.

The point is we should not have to pay money for map completion if our server that we joined isn’t into PvP, it wasn’t like the server was noted when I join mine if it was PvP, PvE or even somewhere in between. Naturally when I opened my account the first thing I wanted to do was play not research servers, in retrospect would I have chosen differently knowing what I know now? not sure, I don’t think so.

That’s not how that works. It’s 1800 per account, not per character on your account.

On topic: I’ll admit, I got my only world complete when I was on Eredon Terrace. We had a miraculous break about a year ago where we shifted from 24th to 22nd and suddenly I was able to get the whole thing done. I waited… three months for that to happen? It was awful. On top of that, I generally resent having to be put up against other players in order to get something. I choose not to play games where competition against other players is a driving factor. Internally, WvW really should not be considered a PvE game mode.

I think what he’s saying is he transfers to and from his primary server and the T1 server for each character as they hit level 80. Not waiting until they all need WvW and just doing them all in one go.

So he pays 3600 round trip since he doesn’t wait for more than one to be ready. Which is crazy.

As I said worst in “case”, I won’t “ever” switch 1 time let alone 27 times.

My choice will be to wait, or protest by never playing WvW for any reason and hate a mechanic of the game that “at the moment” I’d like to enjoy.

(ed: since not all of them will reach Level 80 at the same time, while it is not necessary to reach 80 before entering WvW I like to leave that place for last.)

Yes I am aware of that, my maths;

That’s nice obviously, but since neihter WvW nor PvP recieved any major updates since release, the content gets old. It’s nice for a PvE player to come to this gamemodes for a while if he gets bored from all the PvE content, but it’s not enough to keep the player interested for long.

You’ve made some interesting points there however wasn’t this supposed to be a casual game?

The grind is for people that simply are addicted to the game and refuse to go away period be it PvE or PvP.

It depends on focus unfortunately they are exclusive, you cannot have a casual game that is also a grind fest, what is the focus of Guild Wars 2 ?

Reservedly I would say PvP because of all the carrot on a stick type behavior that attempts to goad you into it unawares.

This is why there is no “end game”.

I’m not complaining at all, but this is something we’ve seen in GW1.

Go to your fruit basket and take an apple from it, take a knitting needle (preferably the thick kind), and drive it through the apple and out the other side.

Is there a new path ? yes, is it the same apple? yes. it will continue to be the same apple until you either run out of spaces to make a new path through the apple, or the apple disintegrates, until you reach for a new apple from your fruit basket but is it the same as your first apple? no, its entirely and very likely a different shape than the previous one.

The problem is you’ve made Guild Wars 2, an amazingly beautiful place to play we’re just gob smacked in awe, but I think we’d rather see ‘new’ apples than eat the old ones.

Any player that just wants to pick whatever weapon is popular for their profession and just spam 1 all day doesn’t belong playing GW, in my opinion.

I have to say as a new player of about 41 days in, that my choice of weapons isn’t based on meta or what is “popular”, I have a different approach to it all irrespective of what might be available to class X, I choose what looks right and appropriate for class X to be welding in the first place;

Example; Elementalist → Daggers? you have to be yanking my chain, they belong on an Assassin or in our case Thief, like wise for any other odd looking weapon that doesn’t look like it should be there, the only time an Elemantalist should be welding a sharp object used for slicing and dicing is when it is eating dinner.

Then and only then when I am comfortable with how class ‘X’ welds a weapon will I even take a look at the skills, and generally I go from there.

This has extended problem when talking about a Guardian, as I’d like to use a sword and shield from time to time, —however-- the Guardian carries her sword around like a holstered pistol, is should be on her back under the shield so I’ve got with 2 handed sword instead, but then I’m only just exploring Guardians still really have no idea what they are supposed to do exactly, other than yell “PAIN FOR PAIN!”.

[Swap the signs on the doors at ArenaNet from ‘Live Server’ to ‘Private Server’]

Get the developers so hopelessly drunk they can’t see, then let them in the live server (giggles) room and tell them they have 1 hour to fix every single bug, all results functional or not will go live.

It’s not for the OP since he didn’t suggest to remove ALL WvW completion but: if you’re not patient enough to do WvW map completion, maybe you shouldn’t own a legendary. Those weapons shouldn’t be given (and they shouldn’t be tradable).

The only people who could maybe complain are those stuck on the last servers of the leaderboard, who would get the same server color for months… Then the OP’s suggestion could help.

I suppose another way around this is each day cycle the map, then I could just stay in the Gate of Madness map and wait for undiscovered points to cycle in.

On the other hand those 3 maps are identical! it should be get it on one you get it on all I guess that could be another solution to the problem.

I too am annoyed at this also, I feel forced into a game mechanic I am not either ready for or desire to be apart of, the problem with dividing the title is PvP’ers will just make a toon grind the map for the rewards [delete] redo, that is why we have to complete the PvE world I’d hazard a guess its a deterrent for that sort of silly behavior going on.

So I propose we think outside of the box; ArenaNet want to show case there game mechanic clearly that is why they did it too FORCE people into that area of the game that want 100% MC, so lets think outside of the box.

I propose that we have a ‘spectator mode’, during spectator mode your invisible and unable to interact with just about anything that would otherwise be considered playing, the bonus is you can go anywhere either teams base, skill points you’d still have to be playing WvW, no way around that unless you take out the fight challenge skill points but this is unnecessary as none of them are locked behind someones fort color anyway.

You have no idea how frustrating it really is to be walking around the map, attacking nothing, interacting with nothing, just walking a long way from point A to a open POI/Vista or skill point, and to be engaged by some ruffian that thinks your out to do them harm, not even walking around naked to indicate this fact has any effect.

Coincidentally WvW players don’t want us MC players in there either! we take up map places or something I’ve heard.

I’d enjoy WvW a whole lot more if you didn’t force it on me and let me choose to be there of my own free will.

I don’t think this pole is very genuine since anyone can vote! which means people that don’t even play the game can put there 2c worth in and create inaccurate results.

It might be worth the devs making a poll feature on the forums, but keep in mind that the game is not controlled by user voting polls, but by metric data owned by ArenaNet.

/bow haven’t tried it yet, but I’m just about too, so in loo of my getting completely distracted by the game for the rest of the day, and not being able to come back and say “Thank You” I shall do so now.

Might I request that these fixes are in future attached to the game update notes, as I didn’t see anything on mine, as the last patch was on the 25th as stated by http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_updates

Why Guild Wars needs an expansion

It’s not really necessary they can do as they please however, they have enough untapped map resource locations to use up and when they do they can flip the page ‘so too speak’ on the map, constantly adding to the story from week to week like a TV show, some of that content you’ll likely have to pay for ‘like’ a subscription to your favorite TV show, which is great I think and better way than Guild Wars 1, where by they’d hide away for months on end not saying anything and then suddenly Sorrows Furnace, Factions, Nightfall & Eye of the North. at least this way they can release in chunks (cliff hangers I do hate them).

As long as that content can be played at any time when new or older players can get time to play it, its all cherry and roses.

I’ve waited 2 years looking for the right moment financially for myself to buy the game , and I can tell you there is more than enough to get on with

ed: only suggestion I could have to make, is put player dots on the radar so we can “SEE” the game isn’t dead (will also require off switch)
