Guild Wars 1 : Character Model Falling Apart.

It’s been nine months since the last time GW1 was updated, according to the wiki . That suggests the issue is local to your machine, rather than the game (besides the general trend that Artanis mentioned, i.e. that graphical artifacts like the one(s) you are seeing tend to be local).

So while it’s still theoretically possible that the issue is in gw.exe, it makes more sense to look at things you can adjust on your end first. (Especially since there’s no longer any official GW tech support, except for account issues.)

Oh I don’t doubt that its likely something my end, even if that “end” results in the out come of modern hardware becoming to advanced, to run older software which does and will happen eventually even to Guild Wars or any other software for that matter.

Make sure your drivers are up to date (consider reinstalling the graphics driver). If it persists, run hardware diagnostics, specifically for the graphics card and RAM (memtest is good here), and check the temperature of the card when these artifacts appear.

With this kind of glitch it is usually not the program messing up. It could be anything from corrupted drivers to overheated or dying graphics card to bad RAM.

Goodness, rather scary comments you’ve made considering the PC in question here is brand new less than 2-3 weeks old built by myself, considering the 6700 being the soul source of GPU hardware currently cooled by a corsair h110i water kit, considering if it was a hardware fault I should see instability in other games including Guild Wars 2 which runs like.. well a dream even on the current setup before I’ve even gotten around to buying a 970.

So .. I guess it might be a driver issues that might be more likely than a hardware fault as this point I’d imagine, I’ll do some digging and see what I come up with.

ed: Drivers check currently running the latest available version, could this be a DirectX problem Guild Wars 1 does run on 9 and we’re at 12 now.

Hi,
Me and one other are looking for the insignia and for all the love in Tyria we cannot locate the vendor for the item, I’ve not been able to use my normal resources to locate it as there doesn’t appear to be any youtube / website documenting the path to Dragon’s Domain where it is supposed to exist at least as far as I am aware.

I don’t appear to be the only one, as wondering around Dragon’s Stand you end up with quite a troupe of people following you around aimlessly lost looking for a way up/into this place.

Any helpful advice would be most appreciated.

I’m a little confused;

In Game:
It states that the acquisition of the “Mistward Warfists” are by defeating The Shatterer.

On Wiki:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mistward_Warfists

eg. Prerequisite: Completion of the Devastation revenant specialization

So which one, me and my son are having a little bit of an argument over it he favors the shorter route ‘defeating The Shatterer.’ and I favor the Wiki.

Any advice welcome.

Almost every time I do this instance in a group of 5, there are usually only two playing at the end, and I feel bad having three players being able to do nothing but watch.

The players in the penalty box should revive everyone at the start of certain new phases of the fight… i.e. when the second of a pair of npc illusions appears (there are three pairs), when the second wave of smothering shadows begins.

The easier option would make each player revive after 4 minutes or something… which would be just as interesting.

For those (like myself) in that box, I feel ashamed / guilty taking that victory at that point too, not to mention those of us that get a little emotional at the end want to take vengeance out on mords for the death(s) of recent departed characters in our story feels like I am being denied my vengeance too.

The worst thing a game mechanic can do in my mind, is get a player emotionally invested and then deny a natural human reaction to it.

I don’t mind it either, but it also leaves itself in its current state to abuse;

  • There is nothing stopping me getting in a team, appearing to be active and fail on purpose at a critical point say just after the final phase begins and sitting/dancing it out in the penalty box.
  • Since it can be done by 2 people of a team of 5, it can also be used to hire other people to do the job and pay them in gold to pass it.

In either case this final battle could do with some tweaking, as for resuming that should be available on all levels of content regardless! we don’t live in a world (yet!) of perfect internet and I’m highly surprised that after the debacle with Guild Wars 1 this is again an issue with Guild Wars 2 as well.

Is anyone else feel really out of place by this penalty box you get put into on death, that you cannot escape from?

  • Suggested change to the mechanic;
  • Each player sent to the penalty box must stay there for 1-2 minutes
  • A player(s) can only be revived by an active alive players by pressing a button to pull all revived players from the penalty box that have done their time in the penalty box.
  • The consequence of reviving a player heals Mordremoth by a small percentage for each player revived.

That way we won’t all feel like leechers just looking at someone else murder Mordremoth.

Just a suggestion.

Suck at Love (Banned)

I do not hate them and I think some people are over reacting now. And I think after they served their sentence (the ban) they should get a 2nd chance.

I don’t hate them. That’s such a strong word, especially for 2 kids I don’t even know. I simply have no respect for what transpired, and zero sympathy for their plight.

I was just reading that thread over on Reddit, and a post in the ‘Suck At Love’ thread by a user named ‘darthyoshiboy’ really caught my attention. I wanted to come share over here. I hope he doesn’t mind. I thought it something very thought provoking and well written.

darthyoshiboy [score hidden] 27 minutes ago

There is plenty of reason to disbelieve, and it’s simply in how this has been handled. At no point have they handled this like sane people who are wrongly accused would handle it, nor have they proven themselves to be reliable conveyors of facts. Consider the following:

  • They went on the offensive immediately when no sane innocent person in this scenario would do this, only someone with nothing to lose who knows they have been caught is going to act in this manner. Let alone continue to keep attempting to minimize responsibility when they’re caught up in the truth and have obviously kittened up.
  • They pulled their video immediately when Anet posted the rebuttal, without apology or explanation. Again, an action where it is highly questionable if you’re going to try to claim that a sane or innocent party would act likewise. This was the time to fess up to being grievously wrong then create (and link to in the original video description) a new video apologizing for what has happened. Throw a HUGE caption over the original video urging people to go see the new apology video. Then start working with Anet to get the supposedly innocent account freed from suspension.
  • They have been very deceitful throughout these events. It started right from the get go with their blatantly obvious attempt to blackmail Anet into restoring their accounts by withholding what they thought was a valued commodity. Why else go on and on claiming you have so much content that Anet have forced your hand into not releasing. Why publicly state that you’re not coming back to the community under any circumstances? Why continue to interact with the community that you have supposedly and without conditions forsaken? It’s all a very deceitful attempt to leverage control of a message that they know they’ve lost the reins on as best as they can with the limited tools available to them (their popularity.)
  • They continue to claim that they had exhausted all means of dealing with Anet privately (" They completely ignored us "), while the known facts don’t support that possibility. They had their video up within a few hours of the bans starting, an action that could never have allowed for Anet support to get them a single response, let alone exhausting all avenues.
  • Even still in this “not an apology, apology” they continue to attempt to control the message by claiming that A) Bro’s offense wasn’t really ‘that bad’, it was just that once and he just feels so gosh darn bad about it Sis is a victim and should bear no responsibility for the kittenstorm they attempted (and nearly succeeded) to create for ArenaNet. This “apology” is littered with caveats, one of which being that we should expect Sis to take no responsibility for what they attempted to get away with up there in the first point. That’s just ridiculous. You don’t get a free pass to unapologetically attempt to incite a pitchfork mob just because your co-conspirator conveniently didn’t remember all the facts until the bluff was called. Even if he was actually that forgetful and Sis had no idea about the transgression, you still need to apologize when your first action was to go on the attack and not to attempt to get this sorted in the normal channels.

In all, there has been nothing even approaching an act of contrition. They continue to demand that we treat it as if it was some sort of accident that this all happened to them. It wasn’t cheating when Bro used a map hack - just a small mistake, Sis wasn’t responsible for anything that has transpired here, they continue to heap mud on ArenaNet’s name for not just letting Sis have her account back without displaying even the smallest amount of interest in working through the normal channels that exist for this process which they have brought upon themselves (probably because they will only further lose the limited leverage they have on the message now in doing so), and they keep trying to maximize the perception of harms against them by attempting to sell us on this idea that they’ve been banned when in reality they’ve recieved suspensions that will eventually allow them to rejoin the game… Were it not for the fact that they’re absolutely never coming back because Anet is literally worse than kitten or some other reason?

Most kitten ingly, they continue to publicly run a campaign that seeks to minimize their responsibility while maximizing Anet’s for everything that has happened here while doing nothing to right the wrongs that they created rather than privately resolving the self inflicted supposed wrongs that were committed against them (that it is well within their power to address) if indeed there is an innocent party here that is not Anet.

Even if we are going to give them a HUGE benefit of doubt and assume that they did everything with only the best of intentions (and how could you?) They haven’t once even attempted to apologize for the way that they handled this by going straight on to attacking Anet.

I think we would all be happy to be charitable to Zack and Stacy if they weren’t handling every aspect of this in a way that only serves to incriminate rather than absolve them for what is going on. They’re either very immature and need to learn the lessons on offer here or they’re as guilty as they’ve been making themselves out to be and we really owe them no favors so long as they want to keep engaging on the matter.

All of that said, people telling them to go kill themselves are severely out of line. SuckatLove are on the hook for a lot of kitten that they willingly kicked up, but that doesn’t justify being the absolute worst human being that the anonymity of the Internet will allow you to be to someone else who is after all is said and done another human being.

That really was thought provoking thanks for the effort in adding it here.

Grind Wars is a named deserve by over 90% of MMORPGs imo. It was easy to obtain gold in GW1 just by salvaging for the materials and selling the mats in Kamadan.

It’s much harder in GW2 due to many circumstance, we should also not ignore the elephant in the corner either, that it’s very alluring for a business model to have vested interest in making it harder due to the cash > gems > gold path way they have built into the game, and if you’re the beholder of a cynical attitude you can see that caked over every part of the game as a whole, the most difficult of questions to ask how to fairly balance the issue for both the company and the user of the system so that both are equally rewarded.

GW1 System was far superior when it comes to the economy, if only because you couldn’t buy gold “legally” you had to earn it.

There were more bots in GW1 than in GW2, there was another great purging of bots in GW1 in 2014. Several GW1 players turn to illegal sites, since you could not buy currency legally in GW1 with real money. GW1 is superior in several areas but when it comes to preventing bots GW2 wins, imo.

Bots have been in gw2 by thousands people just don’t bother looking for them.
I have been watching some of them in orr with high ap.
which could mean its hacked acccount.

To be honest I’ve not seen a single one in GW2, GW1 certainly.. but this could be because of the server I am on purhaps.

In order to stop botting you simply have to reduce grind the less grind you have the less bots you’ll get because all things are obtainable by all people in a state of equality, I’m not saying that everything should be handed too you on a silver platter either, but more care needs to be taken, 10,000 drinks for example is just idiocy 101 -only- because this is an event held around Christmas! that’s the season for giving not grinding.

You prevent them from botting in the first place.

Which means you need to address game mechanics that encourage it because of the nature of the repetitivity of it.

No. You’re just shifting the blame away from those who are at fault.

I don’t think of it that way, the way I process your comment myself is; this person refuses to admit there own addiction to grinding or prefers to live in a world of inequality rather than equality and freedom for all, so that you can protect your virtual shinies that you’ve gained by doing the same sword swinging for months on end or used the in store credit card for gold option, but in the end fellow traveler the last laugh is on you, one day the servers will close and all your virtual shines will be nothing not even a memory that maybe 20-30 years in the future, but nevertheless all your grinding is literally for nothing, shouldn’t then your time in this life be spent doing something of a greater purpose?

So based on this post, your intent was to use this botting issue as a reason to elevate what you care about which is that you do not want grindy achievements? I based this on you not mentioning botting once.

Not in the slightest, it just turned out that way.

Only 6 months?? Why isn’kitten permaban?

Because they don’t work;

1. Botters who sell gold for real world cash often if not always have it budgeted into economics that new accounts & or hacked accounts will be required due to the current stock getting banned, thus they likely have a stock of inactive accounts ready to go, as long as income of cash is > than the need for expenditure of resources to make the income from it, it will continue.

2. Users who casually use the same software, often or not get caught in the drag net of any company trying to remove them (which is a fruitless exercise by the way), which for right or wrong the ban paints a bad image on the company itself, you don’t want your users running around in fear of being banned for the slightest thing, because you cannot play in a state of fear, thus users are given a temporary ban when they can be identified as not gold sellers mentioned in point (1).

So someone who runs a red light (only once!) in their car should get a free pass?
Someone who steals out of the cash register at work (only once!) should only get a tap on the wrist?
You do the wrong thing, even once, there’s a chance you’ll get caught. He did.. & now he’s sorry about it only because he got repercussions.

Well no you don’t get a free pass you get away it or fined, hospitalized and or put into a coffin / ern, by running a red light, the length of the ban though is a little harsh now considering his ‘final’ honesty and appologie on reddit.

No, it just meant players went through third parties to buy their gold illegally. Perhaps you don’t remember all the RMT scams that plagued GW1, account theft, item theft… mostly tied to people trying to buy gold from some seedy third party website.

Gold buying has always been a thing, and as much as it makes me go cross-eyed, I don’t blame ArenaNet (or any company) deciding they want a cut on that action.

Oh I remember them I never used them as it was illegal to do so, and after 8000 hours of in game time no way am I going to risk that, even at 1000 hours or even ever it costs money to support this habit of playing GW I’m not about to flush that down the toilet. – just sayin.

But don’t worry they’ll get unbanned.

Meanwhile a fellow guild mate of mine pretty much got told by support to suck it up and there’s no chance of reversing his actions (accused of botting for multi-boxing).

Yep good stuff.

29 map points in under 60 seconds? No. I think they’re done for. At least this account that got banned is.

I’ll never understanding cheating in a video game. What is the point of playing if you feel you have to cheat? Why bother?

I don’t wish to sound like I’m in favor of the ‘cheating’, however we’re humans we HATE doing things repetitively, and will look for ways in order to reduce the agony of having to do such by optimizing the task down to even more simpler steps, making this a game mechanic problem that isn’t just Guild Wars 2, but just about every online game one could mention, we do this for fun not do the same things over and over again, Grind Wars is a name however deserved by Guild Wars.

Customer Support has carefully reviewed the data that resulted in the termination of the game account in question. They verified that this account accessed 29 map points in under 60 seconds. It is not possible to accomplish this without the use of a third-party program, the kind of program that is expressly forbidden by our User Agreement and our Rules of Conduct.

Because of these facts, the account termination will not be reversed.

Gaile, been thinking about this a bit while waiting in PvP Q’s. Maybe Anet should carefully review what’s motivating people to “break bad” if you will? Maybe the economic policies of late should be reviewed? Since HoT launched there’s been a lot of threads complaining of the grind, the feeling of hopelessness toward goals, and general lack of “good feeling” about the game. If this ban wave had such volume, I’m concerned what drove a player to choose such behavior.

That’s where I’d be looking, the problem comes from being able to use gems to buy gold I think, it’s too easy to just spend real world money and utterly mess the market up with flood loads of gold, in Guild Wars 1 we actually had to put effort into becoming wealthy that being to farm, there are somethings I’ve no idea how people afford them at all, and I’m not talking about “want” things but fundamental armor upgrades so that a new player can play and experiment with things the system is very restrictive by means of gold.

Bottom line should be that people should know better than to use bots…ESPECIALLY if they have an innocent lil bro or something playing on the same IP. :/

One never really knows who bots and who doesnt. This kinda proves that. That video’s comments (when I watched it), were all apologetic “I hope it gets sorted” types of comments, even one from arguably the biggest GW2 Youtuber out there. Then Gaile pretty much exposes the person, and the video is instantly made private. It’s sad, really. It especially irks me when the people get caught and then play the raging victim card.

Yeah I hate that too, I’d had the utmost sympathy for them until Gaile made her post, now I feel like I’ve been taken advantage of but I’ll get over it.

Cheating is cheating, no matter the size or for how long it’s being perpetuated or the reasons behind them, it’s against the rules, so don’t find it sad at all. Someone who looks for cheats is in the gray-zone, someone who installs them crossed the line. Not saying this is the case on this person, cause I have no evidence, just saying this based on the comments regarding the second chance jumping puzzle opportunity.

I find it unlikely that “Suck at Love” would do such a thing, if they did then sure they deserve the ban hammer without question.

But banning innocent people is -never- okay, and when that mistake is made ArenaNET should make some recompense for the action, to ensure quality of control of itself so that it cannot ban without consequence of itself.

I think they could make a vote, to change GW2 into subscription based. I honestly think, if all players would pay 1$ per month, Anet would make a lot of money, so they can not even think about designing such strange and awful achivements in holidays. I would pay 1$ per month, simply to not be offended by such marketing, especially on Christmas times.

You underestimate the power of greed, you could be paying $250 a month and they might still do the same things regardless, of course with that sort of price per month I’d doubt they’d have any customers at all, in addition even if they did ask $1 I wouldn’t play anymore, it’s not the business model agreement I signed on.

Updates about Wintersday

I remember the days when we used to gather around, with glee and excitement each yearly event from halloween to wintersday, waiting to see what funny hats Dwayna & Grenth had for us that year, free they where as we stood on our chosen circle on the ground, collecting presents ever so often as well all free no effort required just be there, those days are gone now we must button mash and ignore all else in a tireless pursuit for it, why ArenaNET did you employ the Grinch to ruin the fun of those yester years?

Because things have changed.
Why?! Because they want more and more money.
In the past you obtained rewards for free (such as Toymaker Bag) or did a few very casual events.
Now, the mechanic is much more simple, with just a few clicks: buy gems, use gems to buy gold, use gold to obtain Christmas rewards. We should be happy, not sad. It’s a new year and over the past year rewards got easier to obtain.

That doesn’t mean all progress is a good thing, some progressive things are hideous and heinous crimes against humanity with various degrees of black to white, using a yearly event to gorge greedily on your customers with an event that is about giving and charity is one of those things from my perspective that falls into a darker gray area, if we want a civilization that is progressively good then we need to do good things to each other, if we want a greedy selfish civilization then we only need agree to the insanity of our current world, or you stand up against it and be counted in the face of all that is wrong and say no more.

This is 1 time a year they truly could show gratitude for their customers, “Please insert Credit Card here”, for your virtual items just doesn’t cut it, not because I would deny them finical reward far from it but because of the time of year this 1 particular event exists.

Updates about Wintersday

Seriously though, if you don’t want to spend the time needed to get this shoulder piece, don’t do it.. Nobody is forcing you to do this….

I see this too often.. too which I say and have said every year from way back in Guild Wars 1 days; This is supposed to be Christmas not Grindmas, it is the season for giving not taking up everyone’s time that should be spent with family and not glued to a computer screen ignoring everyone but your guild mates who often live in far off places in the world, it’s the season for fun and enjoyment and if you must glue yourself to your computer chair and play Guild Wars at least let those with less time have their fun and enjoy the game rather than throwing yellow snow at it, because it’s taking up time that should be better spent in real life, likely throwing hidden rock snowballs at family members because you’ve had enough of them building an ice forts in your front yard.

But no, no one is forcing you… except the fact that the item is unique and a once off never to be obtainable again ever, making this the only opportunity to obtain it.

New maps should affect world completion %

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: aerial.7021

aerial.7021

Interesting I’ve often thought about this while map completing, it has large problems as one other has currently pointed out and others besides;

  • What to do about existing players that have 100%
    - if you make them do it again, do you give them a different or same reward for the effort of regaining 100%?
  • You kind of have to make each area (expansion) its own attachment title because lumping it all into one just won’t do for those who don’t have a said expansion, mind you it could unlock once you buy it.

I much prefer how it is now to be honest, don’t know if HoT has its own map completion title or not, either way it doesn’t really deserve one it would deserve one if it was the same breadth and scope as the core content which is free then I’d say it should have one, much like the expansions for GW1 did.

600gold gone, due to websites lying

so you can probably save like 550 gold from crafting?

that being said you probably need to deduct some of potential profit you can save from selling the timegates material. And factor in some tax.

Or you can sell all the time-gated materials and earn more, and THEN buy the real thing on TP.

I probably should start playing again seeing how much people make just logging in a few minutes a day.

You need to factor in the tax though. Selling and rebuying add some overload.

Don’t worry yourself, me and my son I’ve been playing for about a month he has leveled 3 characters to 80 and only has about 20g in his bank, after very basic kit on his 3 level 80s, the prices are astronomical when it comes to putting proper gear on them, of course I’m able to circumvent this ~somewhat~ by crafting his armor for him, well at least his first set anyway.

These guys playing as females is the same as these guys playing with dolls

Is that a slight against guys playing with a doll ( all you fathers put down that barbie this instant! and stop playing barbie house with your daughters ). I just don’t know but what I do know is, that it would be pretty odd for a straight guy to want to watch the behind of another guy for hours on end, on the other hand maybe that is the way that sort of certain guy swings.

Personally I’d rather look at the behind of something female, and get some sort of sick twisted enjoyment at seeing her punished (for my mistakes) by the closest most blood thirsty grawl.

That response from Colin is extremely defensive. It didn’t come across well at all. And equating the complaints about competitive pvp with wanting the game to fail was utter ROT!

he came across as a petulant frat boy. Not professional.

Somehow, I don’t see how this game will ever really make it in the e-sports arena. Game’s just not designed with that in mind, and it feels like all the effort to try and force it into a mold that isn’t likely to ever fit will end up being wasted time and money when it’s all said and done.

You’re correct it won’t make e-sports arena, it has the wrong leadership at the helm.

I have no issue with them wanting to make GW2 “as much” of a pvp game as GW1 was (we’re completely ignoring the esports factor for the time being here), but it shouldn’t be at the expense of the other modes they once took pride in claiming they offered.

Me either, the leadership in GW1 observed this problem it took them “YEARS” to realise and identify it, but in the end kicking and screaming like little babies they put the axe where it was supposed to and sliced the connection between PvE & PvP like it should have been from the the start, this time I’d even go so far as to have them as separate branches in code, you download this client for PvE and this other one for PvP and never the twain shall meet.

The free to play should have been only for PvP, and locking PvE behind a Pay to play system such as they’ve always had.

Did you play GW1 by chance? Or know anything about it? Would answer your own questions there.

Did you play GW2 by chance? Or know anything about it?

Sorry to be sarcastic, but other than the ‘Guild Wars’ part in the name (only), the two games are so unrelated it really doesn’t matter.

Oh for kittens sake, take into consideration the questions posed in which I was responding to. “Anet prioritizing pvp and paid tournaments over pve” Anyone that played it should be well aware that GW1 was designed as a pvp game, pve was just a “bonus.” PvP was the golden child, and even here it still is. Yes, GW2 and GW1 are very different games. However, they are made by the same kitten people. PvP is still their baby, which is why skill balancing (and now its effects) is based around it and not pve or wvw.

Precisely, in spite of this fact PvE is often seen as the larger of the 2 communities however because that is where ArenaNET excel at and they had better start accepting that fact, they simply are not and never will be sitting on the next DOTA, LOL or even Starcraft 2, in fact I might say that Starcraft 1 is still bigger than Guild Wars 1 or 2 on the esports front, there are just to many other bigger names at the top of the list already, once a gamer who is into all that esports thing is invested in those he doesn’t have time for looking at others let alone playing them!.

Not to say they shouldn’t even try but reality is reality there is zero use in deluding oneself that for all the attempts to gode / force people into PvP people just don’t want it, because it’s not where this games shines for most, the only time I PvP is — wintersday, why? because -everything- is balanced, there is no x,y,z build is better than a,b,c,d build and if you bought (x) to an (a) build fight you may as well just /quit because you’re dead and lost anyway, sure some enjoy this type of game play all the power to you have fun but it’s not for me, personally I prefer a more balanced equal encounter what you have I have, if I lose it’s because your skill is better and not because you lobbed a large rune up your buttocks to give you +1 more dmg than me, that likely I would have done if I had the gold to buy it in the first place. — sorry ranting.

what is the point in posting screenshots of fps u get in game where there is barely anyone on map. those just mean you in game and mean nothing.

if you want to post meaningful screenshots go into a at least 20v20 fight in wvw or a populated LA and post the fps u get.

Go to Shaman in Wayfayer Hills when the entire map is doing that world boss. There’s a good test.

Shaman in particular is good proof that the visual effects engine in GW2 is actually broken and the reason for many slowdowns.

You can have 100 peeps in front with a clusterkitten of sparkly effects at 20 fps (expected) when it suddenly – often for about 5 seconds – will go to buttery smooth 60 fps. I’m not even joking, the sudden performance jump is jarring with no noticable visual change, its still 100 peeps tossing effects in front. Then it goes back to “normal”.

Basicly the art department have been given the keys to go wild without restrictions from the dorn of Dry Top, we’ve a saying at the moment with me and my son that play the game together, Lion’s Arch you get in you get out as fast as humanly possible because it just dumps on both our PCs and as for HoT we tried it we won’t go back there until we’ve got better hardware, I joked and said yeah not until we’ve got 4 way SLI TITANs 64Gb Ram and 6700k i7 overclocked and all water cooled by nitrogen kept at a barmy -321 degrees fahrenheit, likely we’d still get problems so we might need to expand to up to 8 or 16 SLI later.

Hyperbole a side what hardware do ArenaNET staff use to make this game anyhow? some sort of Marty McFly futuristic throwback from the future in 2080 Dr. Brown inspired fusion powered 1.21GWatt CPU, or perhaps they’ve just enslaved the entire skirt race on mouse wheels?

Just an FYI
Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3 OR AMD Athlon 64 X2, or better
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000, or better (256 MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)

These minimum system requirements don’t have a prayer in the highest levels of heaven itself to be able to run the ‘entire’ game, even on low settings for everything.

NVIDIA GTX 760, Intel HD 4000, or better (1Gb of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)

Those I’d believe, it feels like there is a great chasm devoid between what developers class as ‘runs’ and what is actually ‘playable’, just because your app runs on low spec PCs doesn’t class it as playable, 1FPS isn’t good enough unless you want to make a coffee between each frame, but then that is good advice for anyone just because you have minimum specs to run it doesn’t mean it will run well.

The problem is quite visible if you look at it properly as a programmer I get it it’s a huge undertaking to re-write code, but that’s more of a microsoft problem they should be writing APIs that do NOT require complete re-writes of code period.

Optimization is one thing, the art department of ArenaNET creating content the engine cannot cash is another which is the real problem you have. It’s one thing to have the best graphics (I’ve personally seen in an MMORPG) but what good are those things if the art department hasn’t a clue about optimizing the content they create, it feels and looks at times that the directors have just the art department go crazy and haven’t forced limitations on what they are allowed to create.

These thoughts come from someone who has ZERO problems playing the ‘core’ game on a laptop HD4000 with 8gb ram, but when it comes to Dry Top / Silverwastes & HoT it hasn’t a hope, because it feels / looks like they haven’t even tried to pull the art department in they need a reminder of what the minimum specs actually are I think.

I don’t mind eventually I’ll get a rig that will run GW2 in all areas fine, here is hoping a GTX970 4Gb DDR5 will put the game in it’s place with the aid of an i7 6300, and if that doesn’t do it, well it’s time to pack my bags and just live under a rock.

Wyvern glitches in and out when he goes to fly off.

Intense smoke effects are a real concern for some gfx/pcs. Not sure if that’s solvable tbh

I did not have that issue so far.
In fact, graphic response pretty good so far. And I do have them turned up normally.
That said no huge groups yet – maybe 20 players at most

I’ve had frame-rate problems with even dry top/silverwastes & the beta but rest of the game runs pretty smoothly though, so I appear to have the same issues with anything new that involves anything to do with ANET’s participial engine.

Also had no voice sounds for some parts of the speech at the start.

I don’t understand why ANet “should have been more selective” in who got picked for this stress test. As I understand it, the purpose is to tax the system. It doesn’t require that I have specialized knowledge of GW lore or am a dungeon runner or a PvPer. I think my job is simply to log in and play around and report any errors I happen to see, but I also expect lots of lag, DCs, etc. That doesn’t require any special skill does it? We are all special snowflakes…. meaning none of us are special. We don’t need to be.

Well in order to tax their system you’d think anet would select testers from their current pool of players, or people that actually log in.

I want to know if I need to have a free character slot to participate….I don’t have a free slot.

Anet will be providing you an additional character slot for the stress tests and many already have it visible on their account for tomorrows test.

Depends on the selection process, but generally you want as wide a spectrum of hardware/software combinations as you can, including in as many locations in the world that you can.

It is a shame it’s the only reliable way to acquire yourself some Ascended armor and weapons. Understandable to me, but a shame, because it’s just not interesting enough to want to do. I’ll say outright what a lot of people here want me to say: It’s a grind. A very slow, somewhat expensive grind with a very arguably unnecessary payoff at the end.

Wasn’t that generally considered to be the whole point of ascended? Give the people who really wanted one a long, slow, stat based grind through ascended, AR, and fractals to chase, while making the payoff at the end minor enough for everyone who doesn’t want the grind to shrug their shoulders and ignore the hamster wheel?

I dare you, I double dare you, show me a forum page where these people are that wanted this, and almost guarantee you, you won’t find it.

(disclaimer: must be a significant amount of the population to require an addition of said ascended armor)

In fact, according to many folks, rushing to the top is why Ascended wound up becoming something the developers put effort into in order to appease “content locusts”. Not the theory I’m working under, but there’s only the word of developers to go on. And who should believe them?

No absolutely not, I’d believe them if they came and told the truth which would be “we needed more revenue to support the staff and expand for the forthcoming expansion”, that I’d believe.

The reason why I can’t buy anything that they say like the above in-regards to your mention of “content locusts” is because when I look at the forum I’ve never seen an out pouring of human pitchforks at dawn that enacts the changes they’ve made (which appears to be a requirement), an example of this is the gem>gold changes they made where they removed the manual entry button I firmly believe that if it had not been for the publicity ‘outside’ of these hallowed forums that ‘change’ would never have happened.

I’m okay with that sentiment. (Minsc & Boo forever, by the way.) That’s honestly why you can do it, aside from of course “if we don’t offer it, they go elsewhere and get their account/CCs nicked by the shady people who run that stuff”. Sometimes the shortcut is simple and as easy as deciding to drop some cash on this instead of something else.

Of course, not everyone has the money to do that. I know I sure don’t have it. That’s one reason I don’t exactly have fond thoughts of how Ascended is handled in the crafting method. Pleased it’s there rather than purely RNG . . . not so pleased it’s a longer road to reach the skill level and then some serious requirements of material.

I’m glad you remember Minsc & Boo, I keep look around the Guild Wars world for some soft obscure reference to them or the game.. but that’s getting OT.

I don’t have the cash either I go without instead normally food, I’m of the same opinion at you personally.

RNG sure gets thrown around a lot, I learnt that lesson a long time ago don’t go down paths that are bound by RNG, like keys/chests unless the game gives me one for free I ain’t opening those chests.

Though at one point I did figure out it’s easier to do two things with regards to raising Crafting easily. I don’t know how useful it is anymore but Crafting Boosters were invaluable . . . and I wound up with quite a lot back when the old Daily Achievement system would occasionally drop a Gem Store item into the mix. Secondly, Discoveries are preferable to mass production, but a rhythm is preferable to striking randomly. Work on Discoveries for the material-cheap weapons/armor (Horns for Huntsman, Foci for Artificer, Daggers for Weaponsmith, gloves for armor . . .)

. . . man I wish the crafting had been better.

Crafting Boosters, I don’t even craft anything unless I have one active otherwise it just takes to long I tried grinding out one manually -(never again)-.

It should be better, it should be entirely avoidable by way of a gem store item that would max 1 rank in crafting, honestly I’d like one that maxed them all in one hit but judging by how things work in the gem store, bank tabs and so forth it would be better not to pushes ones failing luck.

[/quote]

Yeah it does I think, I’ve ‘had’ to do this many many times, pretty much once every other crafting profession and…and they still aren’t the max available except 1 and I know for a fact that in order to get the other 8 professions even able to craft ascended gear I’m going to have to open my wallet again! and again!.

And the biggest reason it applies is “LIFE > MOUSE CLICK!”

In fact here is the table;
———————————————————————————————————————————-
Taylor - Light Armor, Bags, Runes (500)*
Jeweler - Rings, Amulets, Earings (23)
———————————————————————————————————————————-
MAP: 99%

Leatherworker - Medium Armor, Inventory Packs, Runes (409)*
Chef - Food Buffs (42)
———————————————————————————————————————————-
MAP: 76%

Armorsmith - Heavy Armor, Inventory Boxes, Runes (434)*
Jeweler - Rings, Amulets, Earings (400)*
———————————————————————————————————————————-
MAP: 62%

Huntsman - Pistols, Rifles, Long Bow, Short Bow, Torches (469)*
Artificer - Sceptors, Tridents, Staffs, Foci (52)
———————————————————————————————————————————-
MAP: 53%

Weaponsmith - Axe, Dagger, Great Sword, Hammer, Mace, Shields (425)
Armorsmith - (not required)
———————————————————————————————————————————-
MAP: 45%

  • = used credit card.

And the point? .. does the amount of cash spent = value for money, and it does not considering its a virtual item(s).

Why then spend so much money? because I love the game period no RPG on earth has ever filled that void left by baudur’s gate except this one, so I’m willing to put up with it but that doesn’t mean I think it’s right because it isn’t.

There is nothing elitist about telling people to not play a game that doesn’t suit their style of play because the honest truth is that the game is highly unlikely to change to fit what you want to see it do. You shouldn’t be offended that something in a game for casuals doesn’t appeal to you; that just tells you who you are as a gamer. People should learn from that instead of denying what it means. The Dungeon crowd have finally caught on to this fact, it’s simply a matter of time before other types of players learn it to; the targeted market for this game doesn’t only affect Dungeons, it’s just less obvious in the other parts.

This effect actually concerns me there are certain things that happen to a game when its developers make unreasonable requests of its customers, be that a justified view of unreasonable grind or not, it’s happened to WoW, Perfect World, Star Trek OnLine, Aion, Lineage 2, Guild Wars 1 (yes that’s right) etc. the list goes on and on, its called ‘private server’. When this happens the official servers get deserted in favor of more fare game mechanics, because they don’t just emulate the standard servers but also make alterations to how they operate which normally has by far more fare drop rates.

All because ‘grind’. I’ll put my hand up and be honest I’ve ran for my own personal use a server for PW & Wow, why? because I wanted to experience the entirety of the game, and not have to live 2 life times of grinding at my keyboard.

It concerns me because I brought the game I’d rather play on official servers.

For anything except the big-ticket items (Precursor, permanent contracts/access, nodes) . . . I could get it if I wanted it. I just don’t see a reason to, much like I still don’t see a reason to break your back earning Ascended.

For me its a ‘complete’ thing because the stats be they useful or not outside of fractals the ones I have are not the be all and end all of armor stats, the way I look at it is that I’ve spent countless gold / real world money building exotics because its needed to get to the ascended crafting, but its still not armor done there is still a level higher and I feel my characters are incomplete, if exotics has the same stats as ascended I’d feel a whole lot better about ignoring ascended.

You vendor them, not TP. I thought that was an obvious choice since most blues/greens you can’t profit on much anyway.

You can on some ‘selective’ items, just open the TP and evaluate the price on the item vs what TP will instant buy for, or you can list if you want a few extra silvers.

Then again, going directly for an item with lets say (for the sake of argument) 25% chance would (easy but wrong math) mean at the second try you have 50% chance, third try 75% and 4th try 100%.

But because this are low numbers it’s not very stage that you might need 8 go’s for it (what crates your feel of bad luck).

If it was that even for going for an item 8 times I think I’d choose to go for the item rather than the gold but its not that way, as I said ‘luck’ in my life is a joke but I won’t going telling my tale of woe on a public forum explaining why that is so.

Well isn’t the ultimate goal of this thread to get it right in HoT? So lets hope it does help to get the good version, not the grind version.

Oh of course, I have a lovely saying its not my own I guess, “Hope springs eternal” but reality and history teaches something different when it comes to the guild wars franchise, and that lesson is that when it comes down to it they don’t listen really to what the community needs, but they do give what they want.
