So my friend was in an exact situation as the OP. He was like 1 Vista and 1 POI away from completing his Twilight. He has spent four hours in EB waiting for that Blue Keep to be flipped but it happened to be fortified and his zerg just kinda ignored it. So he spent another hour trying to build cata and cap it by himself. Needless to say that he fell victims for ganking squad and the like. Then we asked him if his server held Stone Mist… then we told him to treb the nearest tower from SM, from that tower treb the Blue Keep and that when the Blue Keep wall is down, announce to his zerg commander that the keep is ready to take. In the next hour, he diligently did what he was told and successfully completed the map with the help of his zerg. Now it may be more difficult if this was an enemy borderland map. However, the principle is more or less the same. You dislike zerg and feel frustrated because you don’t get the zerg to help you. Why don’t you try to create an opportunity, an initiative to push the zerg move to the way you want? Start with getting a tower.

Why?..

  • I dislike zergs
  • I dislike disrupting by any means someone else having fun, they like playing in a zerg that is fun for them, not for me so let them be.
  • Tried doing that a few times without success (unless in the zerg, I tried to enjoy it there way just did not sit well with me)
  • Why should I take up a slot in WvW when someone else more skilled and wants to be there is waiting to have fun.
  • Why should I unbalance my team for my own (maybe selfish?) desires ?

- if I can get in and out so much the better.

Indeed. It sounds like you’ve also read through the gazillion other threads about this topic on the forums. Anyone know if there’s ever been a red response on any of those threads? I’d be curious to hear some of the thought process behind why WvW is part of world completion. If it was simply a means to incent people to give WvW a try, I can’t help but think there could have been better ways.

Yes I have, and as far as I aware currently they’ve not replied.

I have my theories; It slows down an item(s) required for the acquisition of legendary weapons, draw from that what you may you can go to pretty dark places of what the intention really is if you try hard enough.

Which begs the question why for 9 long years has Arenanet in both GW1 & 2 constantly tried to join the two together! (imho) fairly simple equation, if you want to really make a PvP game then make a PvP game don’t sugar coat it with an outstandingly beautiful PvE, or do both and keep them separate from each other.

It’s almost like the idea of PvE and PvP being totally separate things is a construct that some players have come up with and ArenaNet has spent 9 long years attempting to send the message that GW isn’t a PvE-only game or a PvP-only game, but rather a game with mixed aspects meant to be enjoyed as a comprehensive whole where each part enhances the other.

I’ve looked it that way too and that would be the ideal also I support this view in an idealistic world, however we live in the real world all of us are different which is where the ideal falls apart unfortunately (because I’d rather the idealistic approach was true).

In that method and understanding that are all different we should learn to compromise to reach a balance of equality, unfortunately again this means severing the ties between PvP and PvE, so that both can enjoy equally the content that they find most fun, less we forget that is why we play games right? fun.

I won’t endulge in complaining. I don’t like it. Instead I will give you a tip I discovered which made my life 10x easier on this issue (proud owner of several legendaries, discovered every map solo): if you have an iPhone, get this app called “War Reports for GW2”. You won’t actually have to enter WvW, or even turn on your computer, to see if the POI you need is under your realm’s control. If it is, hop in and go get it. I think the app even has an alert function.

You’re welcome!

Good ol times when people would shout out in LA that we had captured EB Green Keep or SMC. haha

Thank you for offering a solution.

It’s not that complicated.
Say you like chocolate bars and you like pizza. WvW is pizza and PvE is a chocolate bar. 100% map completion is like a chocolate bar with a pizza mashed at the end of it.
For most people, they’d prefer to have them separately.
The two just feel so unrelated that adding one to the other just doesn’t sit well.

Exactly!

So just don’t get 100%. If you can’t overcome the challenge, you don’t deserve the reward. The reward which provides no extra gameplay. And is completely unnecessary.

I’ll give you an example: I suck at jumping puzzles. I spent hours banging my head on Mad King’s Clocktower. I gave up.

I didn’t cheat. I didn’t run to the forums to beg and plead ArenaNet to give me the title/reward for trying my hardest. I simply did. not. get. the. title. Same thing for Liadri: it seemed like a pain, I was busy, so I didn’t get the title.

(However, the second time they came around, I committed myself to them and managed to complete both of them.)

Don’t want to be in a PvP environment? Don’t ever step into WvW. That’s fine!

…buuuuuut you don’t get the “Been There. Done That.” title because YOU WEREN’T THERE AND YOU DIDN’T DO THAT.

Its not about what someone deserves, cheats, pleading, its not even about 100% completion.

Its about equality, having the opportunity to achieve a desired accessible goal within a reasonable time frame without hindrance of another player(s) fortune or misfortune, which is why those poi, vistas and skill points should never have been placed in WvW from release, or at the very least have been placed in such a way that they are locked behind content that is inaccessible too some unless they pay money for a server switch.

(For my part, the WvW doesn’t bother me, but I HAAAAAATE Hearts and will likely never do world completion on another character. But I CANNOT SAY ARENANET FORCES ME TO DO HEARTS.)

I believe your missing the point a bit, I’m sure you’d agree that PvE and PvP are 2 completely different ways to play ‘any game’, which is where forced comes into it anytime you take a player out of his comfort zone and place him in a place he doesn’t want to be not only is the game forcing a game mechanic down the users throat your also create inequality.

Sure I get it no one forces me to do anything but that isn’t the point either, everyone should have equal opportunity to complete an achievement, the problem arises from an imbalance in inequality some PvE players do not like/hate playing any kind of PvP (myself included), like wise the reverse is also true, when you block either group from an achievement by any means you create a divide where by one will hate one game mechanic over another, this is not good for the a game in my opinion;

Example before I even brought Guild Wars 2 I was looking forward to this mysterious place called WvW now its a place I am “forced” to go too, not on my own terms when I feel I want to for a bit of a change, but in order to get 100% I have to go there.

Please keep in mind I have zero aspirations for legendary anything…

Before the JQ revamp, JQ was pretty much always dead. You could not get 15 other people (typically) to come help you generate a match so that you could run around an scrape the edges. There were a number of times I stood in FA waiting for a match and people popped in asking for help.

This was what I was referring to. No, RA TA HOH AB were not included. But that wasn’t what I was talking about.

Ah yes now I remember thank you for the memory refresh, but you could always switch sides and get the other half of the map.

If I had to list the top 5 topics that keep reappearing in the forums, I’d say this topic of whether WvW should be part of world completion or not would be in that list somewhere.

My own two cents: I think it is a poor setup and I wish WvW wasn’t part of world completion. There could have been better ways to incent people to give WvW a try. I’ve done world completion on three characters so I know it is possible – but that doesn’t mean I think it was an optimal implementation.

As someone pointed out in the previous thread it even breaks lore, WvW is not part of the world at all its in the mists.

I know you won’t want to hear it, but you may have to wait until your server is a different color to easily cap those other points and Vistas. :/

This is probably the most common response to these types of threads, sadly. My husband and I finally decided to finish our world completion several weeks back and we attempted this route. We waited. And we waited. And we waited some more. We finally shelled out 40$ to change servers. I got mine. My husband still needs 3 vistas and a poi in the red BL. Guess we twiddle our thumbs and wait some more. Really fun, no?

Honestly, they made this mistake in GW1 as well, in regards to cartographer titles. They really should not be pushing this type of pve aspect into a primarily pvp setting. Like JPs, it really just doesn’t belong there. I understand that they want people to try the mode, and that’s fine, but (in my experience) more often than not people have similar experiences to the OP. As such, they don’t want a kitten thing to do with the mode after they are done with their map completion, and have no desire to do another completion run either.

Guild Wars 1; Well that’s not completely true, nothing was “locked” behind anything the system was aggravating at times because you just had to defog an area and it was hard to see if you’d been somewhere or not, the PvP maps where not included in that 100% completion either it was just the world maps, (grits teeth, holds back some seething flames) — “how it was supposed to be!”, the only parts that ring a bell for defogging PvP was inactive areas where battles did not take place.

However it was a long time ago I did that, and if we did have to do the PvP maps as well it must have been extremely easy because I don’t even remember doing it.

So you’ve reach level 80 on 1 character ? if so, well you’ve got 9 other classes to go, and 4 races to go.

Just in case the above is the case a tip from my personal experience with guild wars 1, I used to play only 1 class Elementalist, then when I puged in underworld, fissure of woe, etc. I used to get called out for all sorts of mistakes and error, some justified and some not justified, so I went off and built every single class in the game for a better understanding of it, even if I disliked playing that class because knowing at least the basics is always a good thing.

The result was? Elementalist became my 2nd main, and my 1st became monk, I ran with my warrior, farmed with my Assassin and Ritualist.

What will I do when in Guild Wars 2, I’ve kept the above mantra when (and quite soon) all I have all my classes to 80? well, then I’ve got to properly gear them all and that will take long time.

Enjoy… the game.

All this talk about what will happen this Halloween (it being my first event for Guild Wars 2), its odd to me that this never came up in Guild Wars 1 when we had events like Halloween, Christmas, etc. we never expected whole new content each time the best we wondered about was — “What was the new hat going to be!?”, “How much fun we was going to have in snowball arena”, etc. but I can’t think of a single instance where in Guild Wars 1 we even thought they’d add net content to the event.

We did however hope they would add to the content after the event, (never really happened).

As Mike O’Brien said in a recent post, "We’ve set a clear policy in the past year: we don’t talk speculatively about future development. We don’t want to string you along.

There is a difference on stringing people along and giving information.
I don’t really care what new maps are coming next, but I do care a lot if there will be a real additions to the map (the two small areas we have had since launch are nice, but they are just too small) or new races/classes at some point.
Stringing people along would, in example, be to promise them an expansion X. Giving people information would be saying that we are developing an expansion to be revealed at later. There is a difference.

Problem with that is people would consider it ‘official’ regardless of what words are used like, “we’re designing/developing/? for the future” just because you (and I for that matter) can make the distinction between what might become ‘vaporware’ and reality does not encompass the entire player base, so because of this that not everyone can understand this concept its better nothing said, than something said and it not come to fruition.

What can be said I think is the current state of the game, example: like the missing animation for the female characters, or other insights into ‘existing’ problems & or bugs with the game that people have raised, items that don’t need promises that are common sense, while it is common sense and even stating things that are goes a long way to ease anxieties.

Server: Gate of Madness

Dear ArenaNet, WHY?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: aerial.7021

aerial.7021

Why is the maximum item stack 250? Specifically in the collections tab.

I’d be fine with it being 250 in the inventory, but the collections tab could use a higher starting value (the gem store item boosting it even more for those who really desire it). It gets filled up far too quickly.

An unsigned integer byte goes from 0 to 255. Rounded down that gets you 250.

If you don’t use partial bytes, any increase over that, even if it’s just 500 will require two bytes, effectively doubling the storage.

The greater the cap, the more storage space each item takes.

That extra storage is paid by those who the get the collection tab increases.

Depends if the database software they are using allows for dynamically size adjustable entry cells, if so then yes, if no then the space is already allocated to each account in “full” and for every character on the account, you just need to pay for a limit to be removed.

Dynamically sizable data cells while on the surface may appear to save space it has the negative of being more server load for the CPU & Hardware to adjust, and not just on single account but millions and at any time, so I would suggest they didn’t go that way on the basis that CPU > Storage Space, no CPU power and the whole system comes crashing down.

Overflowing transmutation chalice: Double click to obtain (6-10ish) transmutation charges. Refills at daily reset.

Loved using the lower tranny stones to give sub 80 alts different styles once in a while and alternate armour sets for others just for looks. Losing the town clothes slot at the same time made me sad, it also killed dancing with weapons out
Was really hoping the transmutations would affect a characters inventory slot not the item itself before release.

Yes the above would also be acceptable also.

This is not like Guild Wars 1, you brought your armor(s) and they where all you had for ‘fashion’, town clothes came much later on if I remember it correctly sometime around 3rd-4th year, maybe a little later, and they was affordable if you wanted a set you just farmed your materials/gold (much like you do today) and brought it, today though well… you would not keep armor around that wasn’t in use because its to darn expensive to just make level 80 gear (exotic/ascended), you’d only do it once per-character and even then you’d question if it was really really necessary for a 2nd set.

Want the human female animations back

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: aerial.7021

aerial.7021

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Female-human-only-has-1-animation-now/first

Been following this thread for a while now. What bothers me personally the most about this “bug” is that perhaps they only label things as bugs because there are too many bugs for them to fix in the game and labeling the removal of this animation as a bug would be an easy way for them to take it out of the game. They labelled it as a bug and likely put it in a bin with other low-priority “bugs” so that they will never have to deal with this issue again.

This would require data mining to see if the animation data is still in the .dat file, while by no mean conclusive proof, it does show that the animation still exists but the code governing the animation of player characters was adjusted in some way.

As was stated previously by someone else however programming is a deadly art of continuous hunt the bug and when you fix one thing you ‘can’ break something unrelated, that said to add a little more surgery goodness to your conspiracy and quite frankly it razes an eyebrow in wonder of just how is this game written, that something as simple as an idle animation can break so easy, after no doubt countless other patches and updates.

Supposition:
Also keep in mind that the ‘patch’ notes only inform you of what directly “may” effect you as a player, they don’t detail every man and his dog tasks they was working on, it maybe they was working on more idle animations or more emotes but the patch had to go out on a certain date, deadline reached task incomplete so rather than delay take out the effective changes and poof, idle animation broke.

are you kidding me?

infinite????

anet needs this to make money

I have no intensive to buy either BLK or Transmutations, I’ve brought many other things off the store, Character Slots, Extra Bags, Bank Tabs, Costumes, Mounts & Gold, for the exception of gold what do they all have in common? there all “permanent” items, I am * MUCH * more likely to buy another character slot to get the free ones which comes with a lot of other benefits over and above just buying Transmutations, not that I need to right now I have 65~ of the things at the moment, but I’m am extremely careful how and what I use them on.

I’d even buy those infinity harvester things too but I’m not a fan of the current style of these things, so I’m hoping that different better styles come out that more appeal to me.

As I said before I do not begrudge them in anyway to make money I want them to make money bucket loads of it, the more they have (in theory) the better the game can become.

Point though is we have infinite other items why not Transmutations ? maybe we could have one type for weapons only and another for armor only, cost I would imagine would be like the harvester type tools, 1000 Gems and I’m all good with that.

I found an underwater pipe organ thing which you can play the other night.

I do think the citizenry should if not must add some acknowledgment of the things you do for them, example; I saved a bunch of kids, not one of those ungrateful parents (maybe they wanted them dead) has ever sort me out and said thank you.

Do we get cut prices for all our heroics ? no, we have to pay … now tell me why I should pay to save Tyria considering I am its last hope before being swallowed dragons, NPCs should be falling over themselves to make every effort to equip me the best way they can.

Those little boxes of rewards while you level it would be nicer if an NPC ran up to you to give it too you, rather interesting problem if you happen to be at the top of a vista but then the NPC wouldn’t find you until you entered an outpost or city.

  • Causal
  • Free To Play
  • Graphical Quality
  • Story

Moving on the Guild Wars 2, for the previous 2 years since its release I wanted to play but multitude of what might appear to be an unending pile of personal trauma and tragedy in ways best left not imagined, which I am still dealing with today.

I brought Guild Wars 2 as a distraction from my empty meaningless life and to put a spec of happiness, so now every moment I can spare when I’m not composing music is playing Guild Wars 2.

While I likely don’t see the world in the most lovely way it could be its still very a amazing I’m looking forward to the day when I can run it on proper hardware and no this i7/8gb/HD4000 laptop.

It’s no secret that the forum software has some noticeable issues. We don’t have the ability to fix Search, just as we cannot address a few other things we’d like to tackle. I’m really sorry that it can be difficult to efficiently use the forum. Quite honestly, I’m absolutely delighted when I see someone was able to find links to old threads and provide them in current thread. In fact, I often find myself wondering "How long did it take that poor forum member to find those links? )

This is something we’re looking into, and there may be a couple of ways we can address it, even as we examine both short-term and long-term solutions.

Not that long Gailie we have bookmarks, and I guess some of us have a more detailed list of bookmarks, I’m new’ish so haven’t a massed the links yet.

However I was wondering (giggles) if you knew the search was broken, it does appear to be doing something now however.

Which brings up a somewhat interesting question, if Tyria was the real world how would us as real humans deal with these problems?

Perhaps because of our indecisive in house warring nature in and to ourselves the Lich might have won, forget about dragons and so on we might already be a memory slowly fading into myth.

You should not take your morality from computer game characters. You should have your own morality and make judgements on what you see based on your own morality.

When the computer game asks you to do something in game that you don’t agree with you can either (a) morally object for your personal satisfaction or (b) do it anyway as it is just a game.

QFT

Now if there was some sort of value that swayed from good / neutral or evil, that had an over all effect on your story in the game, eg. too much evil your on the side of the dragons and your probably an undead, too much good and you lose your abilities to even hold a sword and have developed an uncanny ability to cross stitch blindfolded.

Everything in balance, tip boat too much left or right you will sink.

Where's the story? (New Grindiness of PvE)

I don’t even bother with the personal story until I’ve reached 70~80, I might try a new character and completely ignore even the level 10 one, because the world is a story unto its own.

I’ve always beaten them directly [even in passing by], lets conclude (throwing out the dialog here and just use some common sense) that the miners know about the threat to Tyria there friends and families are at risk of being directly effected, but yet they gossip and lazy about instead!

They are either a complicit with enemy or not worthy of the job in which they have been entrusted to do, but they are all we’ve got beating them vs the salvation of the world, “I’ll take that red button twice sir.” – Red October

While we’re on the subject its pretty close to my absolute hatred for the dredge, I cross entire contents to slay every last one of them.

And don’t get me started on moas!

That is not the only ‘offensive’ things I’ve seen in public! — not that I mind these things but there are secluded places you might be able to do things like that.

This is why we had Guild Halls

How did you decided on the race/class combo?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hmm human mostly except in cases where it appeared obvious to myself that the class better fit the race;

Elementalist → Human
Engineer → Asuran
Ranger → Sylvari
Warrior → Charr (except I haven’t leveled him past 3 yet, oddly I leveled a human warrior to 80 instead.. no idea why, maybe I’m just too in touch with my inner Gwenness and “I HATE CHARR!” lol)
Necromancer → Norn

…Everything else Human.

New computer- save files?

Copy;

  • Gw2.Dat
  • Gw2.Exe

To your new computer, I’ll leave the method transportation up to you just keep in mind you’ll be requiring at least 30-40gb of space on any removable media.

All character data is kept on the ArenaNet Servers you cannot lose anything, just make sure you’ve got your login & password saved in a secure location as you might need it when you launch on the new PC.

Before raids, any chance of a condition fix?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’m just going to throw this out there laugh at me all you like, but could this all be due to the fact of not having a dedicated heal/protection class, in addition the mobs can’t resurrect there fallen comrades either (and even if they could, it would be a waste of time because…it…takes…so…long…to…do) by the time they’d knelt down we’d have zerg blasted the idea before the mob had even +1 on the fallen comrade.

But to point out the obvious if we are just going to zerg everything what would be the point of a better AI to begin with, it doesn’t matter how smart a mob might be if its facing overwhelming odds it has no chance.

Why would you scratch a stone to dust, when you have a perfectly good sledgehammer that can do it in a single swing? that is how I view condi .

I had some extra gems left in my account with nothing much on the horizon…so I bought one. I kinda like it. My Asura engineer has gained new status in the world riding around standing up on the rug…which, by the way, has my guild logo on it.

As others have said, it doesn’t affect movement, although if you try to activate a command to increase your speed while on it (such as an elixir), it will dismount you. I wonder…if I put my clumsy, gawking Norn on one…will it make him graceful and sleek? Alas…probably not. All in all…kinda fun.

You can get speed boosts that do work, but either way it still doesn’t move you any faster than you would be if your feet where on the ground.

Mini Games Yes

Free for all anywhere you choose no it would be game breaking on so many levels not just jumping puzzles, not to mention an unfair advantage to those that cannot afford to throw money at the game.

What I do want though is a way for all my characters to be able to access these things without a mobile banker, although that is the point I guess one leads to another?

Its screaming out for a panel like the mini unlock section at the very least.

(btw: I have both the carpet and the broom stick)

Spending hours on character create screen

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Took me an hour to design a few of mine.

because I was trying to go for an ancestral aesthetic, as I kind of liked the idea of my monk finally hanging up her obsidian armor and settling down to make some sort of family, 3 of my characters share a similar end name I guess you could call them her great-great-great grand daughters.

p.s now I spend a few minutes on the log in screen just spinning them around for no apparent reason or purpose, they must get quite dizzy in there.

Communication with players - a comparison

I disagree with it and I’m totally not surprised with the community’s general state of disdain for the developers.

I think that a bad misconception that needs to be addressed a developer is by his/her nature generally not in control of things like news worthy releases, it is their job to get whatever asset they are working on working.

So if your looking for someone to paste a blame card on I would look higher up the food chain, the main reason however you hide things is that you do not want your competition knowing which direction your heading too, as this would give the competition an advantage that advantage can cost $.
