Aside from trait acquisition. That still sucks…really, really sucks. Dear lord please change the trait acquisition.

Curious have you attempted to play a character to level 80 with the new acquisition method unlocking all of your traits as you go?

If you have not try it. See if it is really as bad as you feel it is now. If you feel that some traits are just out of balance or too hard or out of your way to get during your normal leveling experience.

Post in this link with that information.

I personally have not, I have one slot and a toon in it level 20…Started after the last major change…I will try it and if I do not go insane from it I will most likely post…

If you do go insane please do post why you went insane a game should never make you go insane. I personally have not provided my feedback as I do not have a character until now that was not grandfathered in. Leveling to 80 takes time.

anzenketh, you didn’t get the joke

No I got it. I avoided it for a reason. It is a big hyperbole and not helpful to the true problem. That the removal of bundles in the leveling areas removed some of the flavor of those areas. So you do not get the feeling of the race that you once did.

Instead of adjusting some of the events that had bundles in a immersive fashion(Feed the cow with a collectible event) or move events unable to be changed without using bundles. We get events that are just silly “Entertain a cow(Help Farmer Diah)” or outright removed “Golem Chess. (Support Doola golemancing research)”

Hopeful ArenaNet understands that is why we are making satire out of it. That there is actually reason that some players are truly upset about.

Can't equip Diving Goggles?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

been 80 for months with several alts, two days ago, my main can’t equip diving goggle after my attempt completing frostgorge sound’s jumping puzzle (the one with mawdrey back stuff, ice water something)

It is a bug and has been reported. Hopefully they will have a fix sometime soonish.

If the diving goggles bug is fixed, why can’t my level 50 character use the goggles in Fields of Ruin on Tenaebron Lake? I get the same message as in the picture a few posts up. Right Now.

Because the fix broke it for existing accounts.

Siege Troll Discussion

in WvW

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

Another reason why siege that has already been used to damage a structure should NOT be disabled is that it would make zergs even stronger, tbh, by allowing a group to ram or catapult a door or wall down, then dismantle the siege they’ve just used in order to build more siege on Inner Gates of Keeps or Castle.

I agree with this. I would go further to say siege that has been used to kill X number of players should not return any supply.

For exhaustion I would increase the player kill limit tagging a few players in WvW is actually rather easy. If the troll actually plays for 10 minutes then I feel that the stacks should be removed.

Otherwise I think the new proposal is rather sound.

Hey,

with your new dungeon system people can kick you out and take the instance when you wanne sell it.

My question, how do you act with those guys? At the moment, I wont take the risk of being kicked and giving them a free dungeon path. But if you say, you will perma ban those people, maybe not the first time, but the second time they do that, then I’d take the risk on selling dungeons again.

Now, in regards to getting booted -

It is not allowed and we will take action against accounts we find doing this. This is monitored in-game but if you are able to report please do so as thousands of eyes are better than a team of GMs.

The fact that there are people doing this simply sucks and needs to be corrected and I want to assure you that my team actively takes issues like these to production to raise awareness (as do other devs that frequent the forums). I have been approached by multiple leads on ways to correct and curb this behavior and the conversation is happening.

I read that quote as if someone boots you from a dungeon without reason (The ability to kick is in the game for a reason.) Please report they will take the necessary action to correct and curb this behavior. The action taken depends on the situation, circumstances, and habits of said player doing the kicking.

Before the CDI on Guild Halls begins, I think it’s only fair that someone asks the big question:

If we come up with what appears to be a solid idea for Guild Halls, will ANet actually carry through with it and put the work into making it and making it right?

There’s no point in wasting time throwing around ideas that will never see the light of day. This isn’t a question that can be answered with a “maybe” or “we’ll see”. This is a “Yes” or “No” question. If the answer is “Yes”, then fine. Full steam ahead. If it’s not, then we don’t need to waste our time on something that’s going to get buried under other projects and come out half-baked, if at all.

Other question, would there be any legal issues with using the specifics of an idea from a CDI? I would think not, or the devs wouldn’t be taking a risk on it, but intellectual property is kind of a sticky issue.
I can imagine scenarios where “we like the idea but we can’t copy it directly” might cause seemingly half-hearted execution of an otherwise solid, detailed concept.

What Happened to Drops by Profession?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Hi everyone,

The article about profession system only presented the idea behind this system and we generally don’t give precise details about these systems unless these details are needed to understand the idea. In this case we can’t share details but we want to reassure players that they’re not going to see changes in loot so visible that some components are going to “rain” or they’ll stop seeing loot variety. It’s more complex than that.

The adjustments to the loot system are fairly subtle and the goals are that, after a certain time, your characters will effectively have more components you can use. So it may take some time for you to see a difference, or not, but it’s not going to feel like a very visible change each time you loot a mob. We want players, in particular new ones or those creating alts, to more often be able to use the items they loot directly or get something that is relevant to their profession. It does not mean that you’ll get less varied loot overall. We’ll keep monitoring the changes to kitten its affects.

Thanks for your early feedback!

I think it means once you’ve unlocked them with one character, you can henceforth see them on the map with any new characters you might create, instead of them being hidden on the big map until you reach a certain level. I’m sure someone who actually knows will post shortly.

That is correct. You will also be able to interact with skill points at any level past your first character.

Both of those features were hidden before as not to frontload the players with information.

Death penalty sort of exists in that if you die too many times you don’t get a downed state and you’re just dead, but this could be changed up so that each death gives you less starting health. That could be interesting.

Wish granted every time you get downed you get less and less downed health. You also start off with a low amount of health when you rally.

Actually adding them to Rata Sum is a great idea even if they are restored to Metrica Province.

And I’d totally buy one for my personal instance in the gem store. Just sayin’.

They could add it to one of the areas that you portal too from Rata Sum. Even if it is just one or two of them.

What do you see as the main challenges/risks faced by MMO economies, and how well do you think GW2’s economy has fared against these?

The standard challenge is always hyper-inflation. I would argue that GW2 has tackled this challenge very, very successfully.

Second, a major risk is cartels controlling your economy(ies) and I would argue that we’ve done an excellent job there as well.

It is something they are aware of and would like to change. It just takes time to do so as it will require a larger re-write of some code then you would expect.

They did make a change though so your party members are displayed in LFG chat. If you feel you were kicked for a malicious reason Click Support then click Submit a request. You would then file a ticket with in-game violation.

I’ll go ahead and clarify since there has apparently been different information coming from different sources in the past. Customer Service is not able to support party politics unless they involve cases of targeted harassment in-game. This is because of the number of different reasons that certain party politics happen. Since CS only has access to actions that occur in-game, we are unable to verify specifics for incidents in a large number of incidents. Specifics are the most important part of these situations.

However, we do view player reports via CS tickets, and if a player can be verified as a habitual abuser of the LFG system or parties in general, we can take action against them.

Ectoplasm is a exception to the generalization.

Ectoplasm is the single biggest market (in terms of total value traded) and ties into almost everything. It’s really sensitive to what happens patch to patch.

We’ve seen, what, a 10%, 15% increase in average ecto prices over the past year? It wouldn’t shock me if that long term movement was reflecting inflation, but in the shorter run (on the order of months) the price is reflecting individual shocks from patches; I’d be very wary of using it as a barometer for aggregate prices due to that.

I had to revise my post and read yours a few times to understand that you were agreeing with my viewpoint.

The new dodge thing is good and some of the explanations. But I don’t think waiting till level 10 to use 5 skills is easier at all.

Off topic but related to quote:

On Topic:
I think a new system for suggestions and feedback would be useful. Forums while useful for player to player communication and general discussion and possibly feedback. I do not find are useful for suggestions. CDI is a good topic based direction system but not good for the one-off suggestions not related to the current topic. I think that something like uservoice or getsatisfaction would be useful as a replacement for the suggestions forum. This would allow us to condense our suggestions and talk about similar requests as well as voice our priorities on suggestions.

I’m happy they made these changes
“Utility slot skills 2 and 3 now unlock at levels 17 and 19, respectively.
The elite slot skill now unlocks at level 31.”

But still think they locked too much content for new characters behind levelling which they said they wouldn’t as they wanted the early game to be as good as the end game!

Bring back learning weapon skills by using that weapon, and why on earth are breathers and under water combat now rewards when they were there from level 1 before! And stop putting silly things like viewing vista’s as rewards.

I do like the new levelling rewards such as the loot bags, and higher level weapons etc, however are new players really that bad they need all this help?

As someone who likes making new characters I am disappointed with the early grind, and it did not feel faster to get to level 15, in fact it was slower.

The items that are designed to not frontload the player with too much information are account unlocks. This includes Vistas, Skill Points, POI etc… Not because they themselves are rewards.

To answer your question if new players were getting overwhelmed with the way things were taught(or lack thereof) before. Yes.

demand inflation targeting specific items.

And that is really the key here on why John Smith states that inflation is under control. Most items have not increased a lot in value over the years in the game.

http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19697
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19699
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19700

While some others have. Honestly I was looking for a legendary example however most of them over the games lifetime have stated relatively level within a margin of error due to the value of the item.

I don’t know how long you are taking about, but you can look at the price of ectoplasm as a proxy so see that there has been a constant slow inflation in the game since the introduction of champion bags. But, nothing so big that your old wealth is worthless.

Short term, last week’s changes to the trading post seem to have altered player behavior significantly, and there is uncertainty about how they will play out inflationary or deflationary.

Ectoplasm is a exception to the generalization. See links above for less demanded commodities. Ectos are designed to be that other currency specified in the video.

EDIT: Corrected what John Smith stated.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

anzenketh.3759

I have decided based upon my impression of this thread and recent comments from Chris that changes are closer to their actual design. I do not know everything in relation to the NPE as I have veteran goggles on. However I am in a unique position to have a wife that recently picked up the game.

Due to this I will revise my feedback I posted in in the following thread:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Learning-Curve/first#post4389552

Revamped Hints

These are extremely useful. However I am unsure about their effectiveness. Your testing should have proved if it is true or not.

Gating of Weapon skills

I understand why this was done to reward the player. I think that gated systems are not vary rewarding they always feel restrictive. Nor do I find it educational. I do not feel that it teaches me the profession. I was leveling up a elementalist from level 1 in the new system I understand the mechanics of fire well. The reason behind this was that I was required to go a entire level focusing on that single skill.

However for the remaining elements of the elements I don’t understand them well at all and find myself going back to fire frequently. I have not had the focus with the other elements like I have on fire.

I think the old weapon unlock system excelled in this area. On my thief I learned what the skills did as I unlocked them. However they unlocked a bit too fast if I was not paying attention. Perhaps return the old unlock system and slow down the progress of unlocking them.

I do think this may annoy some veteran players I am not sure how to satisfy them. Perhaps once you have unlocked a weapon for a profession on the account it is unlocked for the entire account for that profession.

Frequency of events
I think the events in the beginning areas need to be increased a tad. This is to keep refine the pacing in the starting areas.

Bundles and changes to starter areas
I understand why it was done. You don’t want to front-load a player who is just learning their skills. However now some of them are quite silly or feel toyish. Entertaining a cow, fumbling with a toolbox. Also some interesting ones were outright removed. Protogy and Golem chess in Metrica province. I feel that the cows and repairing golems should actually be collector heart events. And the events that were removed should be re-added elsewhere. Please add the flavor back to the beginning areas.

New Player Experience has driven my away

A lot of people are upset because things changed. Change is never handled well by people in general. Especially when it effects things that some players enjoyed doing. Experience the game for what it is now. If you have feedback provide it.

good changes are…
they could have done what everyone else does, ya know, release NEW content as rewards rather than taking everything away and pretending its your reward as they did with the traits and now everything else.

how would you possibly expect people to be happy with these changes?
personally i’ll never level a new character unless i have a ton of tomes to insta level them. oh wait… i’d probably need to unlock bank access.
because unlocking things that you could already do by default is FUN!

I understand your frustration with the new player experience. However you are making wild and hyperbolic statements will not help matters. Anyone that makes wild and hyperbolic statements will just be ignored by the developers. If you have constructive criticism on this matter. They do want to hear it.

Unlock quests were added because players asked for it. They had a system like it in Guild Wars 1 for skills.

Don’t try to blame players for the trait unlock system. That is NOT on us. At the bare minimum we would have done it better, allowing you to unlock all adept traits by level 11 if you focused on them, all the Master ones by level 40, and all the Grandmaster ones by level 60 (and obviously the level at which you unlock each tier would not have been pushed back). All level 60-80 unlocks would be for the “new” traits that got added after launch.

Long story short, having easy access to a variety of traits makes this game SO much more fun, and lacking that access makes the game SO much more dull.

How would you put in a system that allows for newer and less experienced players to have the time they needed to learn things while making it easier for experienced players to speed up the process and have more freedom?

One, new players NEVER needed “more time” to learn the game. Time was never at issue. What they needed was more training, more explicit “here is the system and how to use it,” like the new dodge trainer. Just taking the existing ability roll-out and spreading it out over more levels solves nothing. If their goal is to make the game easier to understand, the solution has nothing to do with spreading the skills out more, and more about adding tutorials.

For example, instead of moving the downed state to level 5 and only giving you half the abilities, they could put it at level 2, which you hit when you reach the tutorial boss (rather than after), and then the tutorial boss is guaranteed to one-shot you at least once, putting you into downed state, but then leaves you alone, while a message pops up highlighting the downed state options, and then after about thirty seconds to a minute you are auto-rallied. Problem solved.

I understand your desire for more freedom and customization at the early levels. I wish there was a way that ArenaNet could fulfill that desire without removing the reason why the system was put in place to start with.

1.) Did we ask specifically for the trait changes no. But we did ask for more meaningful horizontal progression. We asked for a system similar to Guild Wars 1 to where we unlocked skills.

2.) We can not come to a agreement there as you are basing your information of observation and I am basing mine off mine. ArenaNet is basing the changes based on their information and observation. For understanding the reason behind the level gate please watch the following.

Specifically pay attention to front-loading information on players. This is why things were put behind a level gate. Level 5 takes maybe a half a hour. It is estimated that you can get to level 10 in about a hour or two.

Do I agree with all of the changes no. Do I find getting weapon skills is rewarding no I think they should be unlocked as you use them to teach the weapon. I find the tutorial instance (I call it that due to you can never go back and complete it) extremely restrictive.

I am not for a all out removal of the system. It has made a lot of good steps in the right direction. However it does need to be polished. I am withholding my feedback until all bullet points in the opening post have been addressed. My reasoning for this is I can give feedback on a system as it was intended.

Here’s one for you: I needed to buy 8 platinum ore. Just 8.

Open the TP. Search for platinum.
Click the platinum ore.
Scroll the tiny arrow up to 8.
Click Place Ord….no, wait, I want to buy instantly.
Click the top “Current Sellers.”
Scroll the tiny arrow up to 8 AGAIN.
Click Buy Instantly
See a red box, telling me that the thing I was trying to buy has already been sold.
Click out of the box.
Click the top “Current Seller” AGAIN
Scroll the tiny arrow up to 8 AGAIN
Click Buy Instantly
See an orange box telling me that I bought 3
Click the top “Current Seller” AGAIN
Scroll the tiny arrow to 5
Click “Buy Instantly”
Get a yellow box telling me I bought 5
Click to close the box.
Click to close the TP.

Wow.

It is annoying but if you want to buy multiples of something that the current lowest sell order will not cover. You will need to put a check mark next to the additional sell orders. Selecting the quantity will then work as expected.

-Early levels are incredibly dull. Early hearts/quests are too simplistic and bland.

True, but apparently this was an issue for not experienced gamers. What, like 12 hearts got adjusted?

-Traits take far too long to open up

Level 60 was already the case since launch. No change there.
I do agree that the trait system needs fine tuning.

-Utility slots take far too long to unlock.

They are at level 13 / 17 / 19 now. With exception of the first utility this is at about the same pace as before (time wise).

-“Tutorial” process
You can easily just click it away with 1 button… and more often than not you get loot.
It’s not a tutorial, it’s simply pointing out game specifics. You’d be amazed how many people miss out on them.

traits unlock 20 levels later than they used to.
you used to unlock traits at 10 or 11, now its 30
major used to unlock at 40, now its 60
grandmaster used to unlock at 60, now its 80

Explanation on why was already given. Feedback can be provided as requested in the following thread.

It seems like the account unlock change did not take into account players with existing characters. I was able to use the googles with my level 11 character before this patch in the Idea Incubation Lab but now today I can not access them.

Diving goggles level gated?

Aetherblade jumping puzzle, got to the end and …. Surprise!

Thank you Anet, this is the best gift ever, number one reason I pre-ordered the game was the promise of gated content!

Edit: this makes me remember of a particular Korean MMO back in early 2000s where you needed to be lvl 5 to eat an apple…

It is not gated at level 30 it is a bug. Oh I just love regression bugs.

Diving goggles now unlock on an account-wide basis rather than a per-character basis.

You made some really good points regarding communication. I can tell you they are working on it and aware that it is a problem. There is a large thread about that very topic.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Communicating-with-you/first

I’m only lvl 14 but so far I’m having a blast!…don’t think that means anything though :P

Your comment sounds like you are new to the game. Welcome to the game. The fact that you are level 14 and having a blast means quite a bit. Being it is anecdotal evidence but it might calm some fears that more veteran players have regarding new players and the new system.

Don’t let the hoha about the recent patch get too you too much. A lot of people are upset because things changed. Change is never handled well by people in general. Especially when it effects things that some players enjoyed doing. Experience the game for what it is now. If you have feedback provide it.

I haven’t read the discussion, I don’t really want to spend any more time with this. But my problem is the existence of level gating and unlock quests/requirements. Tiered utility skills, traits since april and this new player experience all are incluced.
Those are just not something I want to ever experience for any reason, and it’s even more jarring when things are changed in the middle of things.
I loved the freedom so much.

Traits have always been level gated.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Trait&oldid=471040

Weapon skills have always been playtime gated. You had to use the weapon to unlock it.

Unlock quests were added because players asked for it. They had a system like it in Guild Wars 1 for skills. If you have a example of a trait unlock that is particularly offensive that you find is out of balance (Previous example unlocking a adapt trait by map completion of Frostgorge Sound) they are accepting feedback.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Game-Updates-Traits/page/41#post4358626

How would you put in a system that allows for newer and less experienced players to have the time they needed to learn things while making it easier for experienced players to speed up the process and have more freedom?

I agree with you about this. I think it’s premature to gauge how NPE will play at the current time, because we do know changes are coming.

And yes, you do see some forum members making the same points again and again. That truly is not helpful to the review and discussion, in that the devs would prefer a focused, clear, concise statement rather than realizing “Wait, it’s that same person, saying the same thing for the 19th time.”

I wonder if it is safe to assume because of this that the patch changes today were only the beginning of the planned changes for the NPE. Because it seems like the issues in the opening of this thread were addressed in the recent patch with the exception of the personal story. I wonder this so I can time my postings for providing proper feedback on the system as I feel it still needs some polish. The biggest issues with it I feel are resolved however.

You said it well.

I would like to add if you are getting hints past your first level 80. You should not. I have a new character after the patch the only “Tutorial” I get is the two hints in the tutorial area about movement and camera control. There is also the new dodge tutorial. To get all the other hints I would need to click for more information.

As the game evolved did it get easier for alts? Yes. Skill scrolls is one item that made it easier. Was it possible to bypass this “gate” yes it is. However for the majority of players I would say that you are unlocking the same things at the same rate now as you were before.

Except you really aren’t. At least I’m not. Even if I am moving at the same rate and this is just a matter of perception, it’s still indicative of a poorly-implemented change that has made the game grindy, dull and dumb, and has been forced on people in lieu of the one of the game’s most highly-praised systems. Even if we could find a point of agreement that something needed to change in the early game, the way it has happened is stupendously awful and anti-player. An effective tutorial in the opening sequence, ala GW Nightfall, could have bypassed nearly all of these alleged problems, if the average gamer is half as inept as ArenatNet seems to believe.

The larger issue here is that early levels should not be so empty and mind-numbing as to make me want to skip them, yet the NPE has made this issue even more pronounced than it was.

Yes it is a matter of perception. After about level 7 or 8 I felt it getting slow myself. I know however that is not due to the level gate but my impatient attitude of moving along with the story. I wish there was more story so we could unlock a chapter every 5 levels.

I keep on seeing people recommend. “Well why don’t you add a expanded tutorial instance.” When the answer is fairly simple. They don’t want to front-load the player with information.

Do I agree with everything they have implemented. No. I personally think that weapon skill unlocked should be done as you use them. This I find taught the profession more then just unlocking a skill. The current method only teaches one of many weapons for a given profession.

They implemented the system to make leveling a reward. This is good. However the first 5 levels go by so fast I don’t think they need that many rewards.

The system is needed. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Most of the items that you likely consider “the worst aspects” were actually gated before it was just a lot less obvious. Also you should be able to unlock them close to about the same speed as you unlocked them on your first character.

That’s an interesting claim, since the actual in-game experience has been anything but, and boring. Anti-alt level-gating is just one problem, at any rate.

It seems pretty obvious from this and other threads that the worst aspects of the NPE are here to stay, and all of ANet’s “communicating with you” stuff is posturing at best, deceptive at worst.

I really regret buying that char slot a month or so ago. I specifically waited for this update to use the character, expecting something new and interesting. Now I have a low-level mesmer that will collect dust, not to mention a roster of other alts that I simply have no interest in playing anymore.

I prefer having the default being an buy offer just as I preferred the default sell being a listing b4 they reverted it. With the market being as large as it is they get filled promptly. Why would we want to short change ourselves?

If a perfect world this would be the case. However due to it being a fast moving market it causes some confusion with some players.

I could see when selling put a sell order and when buying buy from highest sell order. I think people are willing to wait for the highest price to sell a item but are not willing to wait to get a item.

I’m really confused. I just returned to Guild Wars 2 after not playing for 2 months or so.. And this new player experience is really confusing me.
I decided to buy a whole bunch of armor since mine was getting a bit weak for my level. I’ve purchased every piece I want but it says that the trade has to be accepted from the seller? I think that’s terrible, what if that seller doesn’t come online for a month or a year? When I buy things from the trading post, I want them n.o.w. If something is put on the trading post, it is because the seller wants to sell it, they shouldn’t have to confirm people’s purchases, I think this is ridiculous.
Is there any way to disable that feature? I really don’t know if I can keep playing the game if all these previously well working features are going to be made so complicated. It’s ruining the fun of the game.

I can understand your frustration. My wife had the same problem. Good to know they are fixing this so this confusion does not happen in the future. The obvious warning that your coin is held until a seller agrees is not vary obvious.
