No precursor crafting in feature pack

It is disappointing that precursor crafting won’t be included in this feature patch.

I still don’t see where people are jumping to this conclusion.

It may happen it may not. They may not due to what they are going to reveal in week 3. They may as they said they would have more information on it soon. But did not specify soon elsewhere in any of the other items.

Why are weapons being standardized?

Because weapons scale with the players race.

While I’m really happy that after 2 year, finally we are getting the standart enemy models, I just don’t see why it can’t be applied in every gamemode from sPvP. I mean…why? I can’t see any reason for it. People can’t take solo queue or hot join seriously?

I will never take hot join seriously. There is just no reason too. It is not designed to be taken seriously or be competitive. SoloQ on the other hand….

I don’t take it either, but is up to the person to take it seriously or not. I just don’t see why ANet thinks that is a good idea to just not include a feature that will hurt no one in the others game modes. What is the reasoning behind this decision?

Because some pepole like to look perty and would get upset if you block them from looking perty to everyone. For competitive game modes it overwrides the need to look perty to having the game be competitive.

They have to standardize the armor because some racial armor wont translate to human models.

Displaying racial armour as its human racial equivalent would fix that quite easily but I suspect it’s to simplify and speed up target recognition; so, for example, when you see a male human in cabalist armour you instantly know he’s a necromancer.

I think that a better solution would be to display the standard armor if you have racial armor equipped. Otherwise show your armor in the human equivalent. The idea is to make it so that players don’t look like clones. That is unless they have 5 different sets and don’t have duplicates. Then you could still be able to tell the players apart.

To be honest though I don’t think it will be that big of a deal unless you have multiple players of the same armor weight.

The only potential issue I see here is that it is a full model replacement, which means they will be using generic armor. If you want to show your armor to anyone in PvP, you might as well roll human otherwise no one except your teammates can see it.

They said that armor models will be replaced too, by standard-per-class models.

I missed that in my read. You are right. I can see this as a problem I be it a small one but one does exist. It would be nice if they did not replace the armor at least. I don’t see why they have to standardize the armor.

They have to standardize the armor because some racial armor wont translate to human models.

Also, in response to OP – keep in mind this only affects your enemy team – your team still looks the same (to you) – and it is fully optional. Not really seeing any issue here. Seems like a win-win kind of change (and, IT IS OPTIONAL and only from your perspective – why should we care if people who want to see us as human during pvp matchs can do so OPTIONALLY).

Good point about racial armors. As for why should we care if people who want to see us as human during pvp. The players that care would argue. “I worked hard so that I could get and show off my armor and like getting complements on my looks.”

Personally for me. As they replace the dyes anyways I don’t care so much.

[Question] Standard Enemy Models

I could see this being useful for soloq but not hot join. After all:

“As this functionality is intended for high-end, skilled players at the top tier of PvP”

I think the high-end skilled players at the top tier of PvP will create custom Arenas with tournament commands enabled to practice their PvP. That or join soloq if the ranking system matches them with the right individuals. As those are used for practice I think that they should have the option. I am sure that there are some that would be disappointed that my model would be replaced but I can understand the reason for doing so.

Hot join however is in no way a competitive mode. So I see no reason to include it there.

Yes they are trying. Also prize pools are not new to ArenaNet. Guild Wars 1 had one.

Yes I have 1 & 3, but 2 I didn’t get as I was out of town. Question though, I have 2 computers, 2 PC’s both with Guild Wars 2 separate accounts. Can I copy my data file from my PC to theres as mine is up to date with all the episodes?

When you download your update for Episode 3 it also downloaded the update for Episode 2. The episode however is locked in your Story Journal so no you can not play the story of episode 2 unless you unlock it. That is done with Gems. More information on the Story Journal can be found at the following link.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Story_Journal

As for copying the .dat data file from one computer to another to save bandwidth yes that can be done. I personally would not do it however as the downloads are rather fast(I know subjective and dependent on speeds) and it is the difference between copying a ~500mb of files from the internet vs a ~16-25GB file can be substantial. Depending on data transfer speeds.

anzenketh.3759

I can’t think of a way to fix this off the top of my head without plastering ground decals all over the place or somehow making streak effects better show the attack arc. Any other ideas?

I can’t believe you are actually saying this. So this means that after almost 2 years, one of the biggest problems of GW2 PVP hasn’t even crossed the devs’ minds. It’s an easy fix, give the players the option to normalize models of every race to human size. Should have been fixed 1 week into beta. No wonder this game isn’t going esports

It has crossed their mind they just have not thought of a good solution yet. No having everyone display as a human is not a good solution. It also has it’s problems. Mainly having to do with customization a big part of this game. I think plastering ground decals all over the place or somehow making streak effects better show the attack arc is the best solution. But it has it’s problems with effect clutter.

Not sure whats being implied here. The attack areas are the same for all races.

The issue that they are upset about is not so much the hitboxes. But the animations and the fact that they don’t scale causing confusion or thinking that you are safe from harm when you really aren’t. A really difficult problem to solve. Or at least that is what I think the OP is talking about.

[Suggestion] Event notification

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Do you think that showing all of these events makes the map feel cluttered? Would it make finding the information you care about more difficult?

I think that depends on the customization of the UI. Something this game lacks at the moment. For some it would only add to the already existing clutter for some it would be useful.

When we had the event API working those that wanted it went out to look for it. Some only cared about the world bosses and got one of those timers. Some cared about all the events and looked for one of those timers.

I think that work should be focused on enabling the event API system again so players can choose the looks/amount of information available to them. Obviously it can not be run based upon your home server. Perhaps something with OATH can be used to detect what shard you are on and what events are on that shard to enable the API again. That way the community can determine what would be useful for them and make things based up on that.

If chapter 2 does not deliver.....

in Living World

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

It is not that there is not much content. It is just not much that you either care for or pay attention too.

Those who participate in the wiki have been trying tracking changes to the minute detail in a effort and we have found the following. There may be much more that we have not found yet:

For new:

1 New Feature
7 New effects
5 Story Instances
2 New areas
20 New Events
15 New Items that are logged a lot of those items have new items associated with it that I did not count.
28 New Named NPC – Most with new dialog some with new skills and abilities. Named NPCs also have new skins.
9 Generic NPCs
2 New objects

For updated

14 Updated Named NPCs with new dialogue/location at the minimum.
20 Updated Generic NPCs with new locations and paths at the minimum.

Source:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2_Wiki:Projects/Living_World_changes/Gates_of_Maguuma

So instead of stating that there is not enough content. As there is plenty of content. State what content you would like to see. Keep in mind some people like the content that they are releasing. And despise what you say achievements are “content”.

[Suggestion]: New Characters

in Living World

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

The story delivery is Season 1 was not at all up to par. Due to this we have a lot of pre-conceptions of how the Biconics are from Season 1. Season 2 delivery is much better by orders of magnitude (for those of us that care about the story) with this delivery method they will be able to properly shape the characters.

At this moment there is not a lot of depth to any of them. At this moment I would say that Taimi has the most depth out of all of them because her personality was really able to shine in the last part of the episode. The rest of them are too basic to their generic form but this will change over time.

anzenketh.3759

Don’t like drip feed content. Like to watch your TV shows on a binge. You have a choice. You can wait until Season 2 is over and buy all the episodes with gems then play Season 2 there is your expansion. Don’t want to buy that is fine. Just login during the release window but don’t play the episode until the season is done. Then you will get exactly what you would get in any other MMO. Lots of hours of playtime with new content once every 6-12 months or so. The reason why they took a two month break was so they could spend their time getting ahead of the game to deliver better quality polished content. They can not release the amount of content you want in a two week window. Time and budget will not allow it.

The reason why they release on a two week schedule is to keep people logging into the game playing keeping the population up. This is the same reason why they give it out for free instead of charging it during it’s release window. Due to this they will not move to a 6-12 month window for release.

3. Give me back my cut scenes

Let my character actually talk to people, like in the Personal Story. Give my character some character. Why did you get rid of the conversation cut scenes anyway? Are the voice actors too expensive?
This was a really cool feature, which I am very sorry that it is gone. Monologue and dialogue are very strong vehicles to transport a story. Giving it enough room to happen sets the important parts of it apart from the random chatter.

I could go on, but hey, I was very generous already…

The reasons for getting rid of that specific type of cut scenes is that it simply did not tell the story well and broke immersion. I am glad that they are gone. Sadly the player must pay attention to the surroundings to get the full effect. I like cut scenes like Guild Wars 1 cut scenes.

As for the type of story I want to see is more of The Quest, and Voyage and Return out of the The Seven Basic Plots I find the game is filled with Overcoming the Monster. There are monsters everywhere. More back-story and more ties to Guild Wars 1 would be nice. I see possible hints of it in Season 2 I am going to hold off all criticism until I see the full story however.

That said the delivery is much improved over season 1.

We’re exploring some technical improvements that may allow the PC to speak under new circumstances, but it’s actually a bigger undertaking than one would imagine due to the complexity of player voice implementation (10 possible voices, currently shared lines of dialog that we want to split out, scene timing per language, etc.). That’s about all I can say at the moment.

While you are at it could you have text dialogue at time reference our characters by name when appropriate. I think that would even be a good stop gap measure it also has more effect then a title. Especially when talking with close friends in some instances.

I’ll even do it several times if it looks like I might get it. But I’m not going to waste my time failing dozens of times to “practice”. This is a game, I don’t want to work at it like a job.

Except practice is how you get good at games. I was horrible at jumping puzzles. Would not even attempt the Obsidian Sanctum. Gave it time after playing the game for a while and I got better.

That being said though. If I start to get too frustrated about something to the point it is detrimental to my health I will not do it. I will try a few times. But the moment I get frustrated I stop after all if I am frustrated I am likely to only mess up further due to frustration.

All the hard(Non-assisted by aspect) jumping however is optional. The Achievements are designed to be well achievements you don’t need to complete them.

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

I do agree the fix for this is education there are a few other items that is preventing people from staying up with the rest. One of those is time. The people who have been educated already have had more time to leverage that education in their favor. Someone starting out new has less monetary leverage to earn the cash needed to stay up with the Jones. Little do people realize that staying up with the Jones is exactly what got them into trouble in the first place. There is no fix for making it a level playfield due to time difference however. Nor should you. The only way someone in this game can level that field is converting gems to gold. If someone really wants to be on a even level they are free to do so.

The other is lazyness. Some people do know how to make the coin by flipping but just don’t care. Why? Various reasons one of them being they just want to play the game and will get things as they want them. The other is they just can’t be bothered. For both of those there is no reason to fix anything to make it fair to them. After all life is not fair. Everything is not equal nor should everything be as long as someone can get to the point that someone is now given enough time and hard work. Now given the person they are comparing themselves against may have got farther during that time. But there is no fix for that short of time machines. Any fix attempted to level the playing field of time disparity would only hinder those trying to get to the point that the top flippers are now.

Worst... ending... ever! (Spoiler Alert)

When you come right down to it the following are method delivery for story telling in video games.

1.) Enviromental
2.) Cynamatic
3.) Text Dialogue
4.) Voice Over Dialogue

If you paid attention you will find there is a cliffhanger I be it is a weak one but it still there. Also ultimatly everything breaks down to you sit in a room. And listen to people talk. A lot. Then you click on some stuff and listen to more talking. A lot. In video games.

What is to happen to Taimi due to she is left behind in scarlet’s apartment?
What is to happen with the group that went ahead to the caves?

I do understand your desire to get though to the big ending. I would not expect this until closer to the end of season 2. My recommendation is to wait until season 2 is all released then play the story binge mode. I think you would enjoy it a lot better that way.

We were given this:
- You show up at the house. There is a discussion that there could be a threat when trying to enter the house. There was a threat the door blew up. Given no-one got hurt if they stood close. But there was still a threat.
- You enter the house. People talk. The conversation they have is relevent to the backstory and the future story. You will regret ignoring it.
- The chapter ends.

I can write a story for the rest of the year in a couple days.

Can you deliver that story through an interactive medium including scripted and programmed actions and interactions, 3D character models, environments with lighting and detail, etc all in the span of a couple days? If so I’d love to play your game and see how it is.

And delivery was the problem in Season 1. Season 2 I would say that delivery is not so much a problem any more. As a matter of fact I think the delivery in Season 2 is better then the delivery of the story in a lot of sections of Guild Wars 1.

I think that it is only going to get better there are a lot of unanswered questions that I now have.

Will Taimi’s curiosity get her corrupted like Scarlet. What will happen with the rest of the group what will happen with Taimi being left out of the action again. What is with the mind device.

I feel like a got a better grasp on the story now. The quality of said story is yet to be seen. After all we are just at the start of it. So far I am liking it however.

Exactly this !!

Although I did ask a few days ago ( being new) what there was for 80’s to do as far as PvE lvl 80 content lol.

As there does only seem to be 1 zone for 80’s .

I agree totally about the new talents sucking, having to be lvl 50+ to get some of the lvl 30 traits you want unlocked, it does not seem to be “play it your way” but morelike " play it your way BUT only how we say you may play" unless you pay lost of gems to convert to gold and use skill points you will need later to unlock stuff you need / want now from a trainer as we messed up how to unlock the traits for you .

Would be good to see some of that HUGE map we see in game unlocked and explorable even if you have to be lvl 80 to do it. seems a bit dumb having such a huge map that is 80% smudged out and unexplorable after nearly 2 yrs still…….

Having access to LS1 would be good as a newer person, as would be good to be able to see / play what is in all the videos advertising GW2… Unlike another MMO ( WoW) that take crap out and it is never seen again, yet leave remnants that are broken for new players and stories that make so sense ……

Hence why moving to GW2 in the first place !

The advantage in Guild Wars 2 is the leveling curve from 1-80 is the smoothest and easiest to get out of any MMO. Enjoy the journey. You will be level 80 before you know it.

Also there is nothing to say that the new zones will not be only for level 80. They could add lower level open world content but have the story be for 80 only.

A bit reason why they are only having the story be level 80 is due to how it falls in the timeline. The Living world takes place after your personal story. If you do not play your personal story the living world may not make sense in the future.

I think this journal idea can have a pretty negative effect on the community. Seems good to buy gems for lost living stories, to have permanent content is a long time desire.

However this might divide the player-base’s casual players and more active to hardcore players apart. Gw2 have many casual players and they don’t usually farm for money and they make gold at a much slower pace. Hardly making 1g an hour playing a few hours a day.

Grinding to get enough gems to buy a missed living story will take ages.. Not to mention multiple missed living story events due to real life situations. It would seem the upcoming changes and recent changes are alienating casual players and perhaps older players. There has been a forums post by age 30-70 players speaking up on how megaservers and recent patches are alienating them.

I believe journal idea for LS2 would further make this unenjoyable for casuals and more cater to farmers with lots of Gold to spend for gems.

Just because you have China servers now and multiple target audiences with vast cultural differences, doesn’t mean Anet shouldn’t try to accommodate to as many player bases as possible nor try to relieve some players for more hardcore/active players.

I don’t think it will split the playerbase as players who have not unlocked the content can join in on someone who has without paying for it. They will however not get the rewards or achievements for doing so. Remember this system follows personal story mecanics.

Want to rewards/achievements you will need to login at the time specified or pay the gems via gold or real life cash.

The advantage with the time argument is that it can be bypassed with real life cash. Don’t have/want to spend the cash. Well … spend the time to convert gold to gems.

1. Don’t presume to judge how I spend my time. I currently do not play the game but may come back at some point. Logging in to “flag my account that I logged in” so that I get access to some content is silly.

2. Its the decision they made that is irking me. Before, all content was accessible. No gold or credit card required. Now, either gold or credit card is required.

3. For a new person that comes to the game in a year or so, they are royally screwed.

4. The company should make its money in its cash shop, but for cosmetic, vanity, aesthtic things. Not gates to content.

Point 1. Your choice. The idea is to get pepole like you to login and play some durring eatch release. That is why the Living World exists.

Point 2. Login and play it durring the release time. No gold or credit card required.

Point 3. I hope ArenaNet offers a bundle package after the season ends with all expisodes in the season for a reduced price. This will help alivate that problem. This could be ArenaNet’s version of a expantion pack. They could even market it as such. Sure they still don’t get it for free but they can still get it. Also new players are likely to have friends that have unlocked the expesode. So if they don’t care about achievements or rewards for it. Their friend can launch the instance for them and they can play the story together.

Point 4. What do you call a expantion pack?

But does me logging into the game for 2 minutes to flag my account that I logged in do ANYTHING to improve the health of the game? If I logged into the game for literally 30 seconds and logged out, that has done nothing for the game, and I had no intent of playing the game AT THAT TIME.

It actually does do something for the game. It forces you to keep the game installed so if you decide to play the game on a whim you don’t have the determent of “Ugh I have download and install 16GB worth of content.”

I understand your viewpoint I understand how you got to it. I disagree with your viewpoint however. See the following post for my viewpoint:

You can stand on your soapbox and pretend to be superior to everyone, the fact of the matter is, guild wars 2 is not a starting a trend that hasn’t existed in a long time.

The fact of the matter is IF black lion keys were not selling, Arenanet would have done something about them, the fact they haven’t changed after a year and half goes to show it is not a problem.

I don’t buy black lion keys because weapon skins hold no value to me, but I wont pretend like am somehow better than adults or possibly children (YOU) play the game. But hey you are free to delude yourself into some false sense of superiority, a lot of people do that all the time.

I would not go so far they have not changed.

However it is saddening that the drop rate for a full ticket is not statistically significant.

Will we have to pay for season one?

in Living World

I honestly don’t think we will. Reason for me thinking that is that I do not believe they are releasing Season 2 in the model that they are for the money. If/when we do get it I think we will get it during the downtime period in-between seasons.

If you want to see the content, its not a choice. You either must remember to log in, if you are even able to log in, or you must pay the gems. The content is behind a gate, any way you slice it.

Yes the content is behind a gate but the gate is not there for the reasons you expect. I honestly don’t think that ArenaNet is doing this for extra income. That is a side effect bonus. I think the reason why there is a gate is to get people to continually login and play. People Logged into Guild Wars 1 only during the festivals. People logged in only during new Living World releases. If everything was permanent for free with no charges. A lot of those people would not login.

The fact that it is only available for free for a limited amount of time means that ArenaNet is “paying” us for doing the one thing they need most for the MMO to servive. Log In and play. Something that businesses that rely on the crowd sourced model learned long ago pepole are sometimes more valuable then cash.

Did not login during the period of time that it was free. Well you can pay with real life money or convert gold to gems and pay to unlock it. I understand the concept. I think this is the best solution available for both parties.

However I will say this. In order for this not to deter new players after the season is over the seasons episodes needs to be sold at a reduced price in a package. ArenaNet could even market it as a “new and returning player expansion pack”. Perhaps sweeten up the deal a bit by adding some of the exclusive Gem Store content that was only released during that Living World season into the pack.

If its not for money, why not just make it all free all the time? Why risk potentially upsetting a % of the playerbase with this move? I am not the only person in the guild wars community that feels this way. Why risk it? Whats for them to lose by making it all free all the time? Doing this makes them look shady IMO.

I already covered that in my post. It is to entice players to login and play the game. It is to keep players thinking about the game. It is to ensure that the game stays installed. Want a 20 minute explanation. You can go watch Wooden Potato video on this topic.

He even covers why gems and not gold. It is a smart thing ArenaNet have done here. They found the middle ground that pleases the highest percentage of players. You can’t make everyone happy. But this is the closest I think they could get with the Living World system still serving it’s purpose keep players logged in and playing.

well you used to miss out before and never have any chance to it again.

Also it is so hard to log in (or get someone to log in for you) once every 2 weeks? you dont have to play the content.

Quite frankly, yes it is especially for someone that isn’t actively playing or focusing on the game currently. I haven’t thought about GW2 in a few weeks at least. I saw an ad for it on a gaming site and figured Id log into the GW2 site to check it out and see whats up. Had I done this in the LS, Id miss out on content.

But that is the point. That is why they are doing it this way. To keep you thinking about the game. To have you keep the game installed on your computer. So that one day randomly when you login just to unlock the episode you will play for a bit longer. Don’t want to think about the game for a while. Going to be gone. They understand stuff happens. Unlock the game with gems. Don’t have money. Play the game for a while earn some gold unlock the episode with gems via gold.

[suggestion] Account Security

While I do agree it does increase security it only increases it though obscurity. It also does not improve it as much as just using different passwords for every system you log into. Or using multi-factor authentication.

Will I have to pay for micro-updates ?

in Living World

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

And no you will not have to pay for the micro-updates. You get the open world content regardless if you unlocked the episode or not. You can also join a friend who has unlocked it. You just will not get any of the rewards or progress in your story from it.

Charge for All Episodes - regardless

in Living World

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

They are charging pepole who are late not because they want more money. They are doing it because they want you to login. Because if you log in then you kept the game installed. If you kept the game installed it is a lot easier for you to play the game on a whim. If you play the game on a whim you provide one thing that the game needs. Players to populate the world.

Who says the story can not be better then Season 1. The entire reason why they are changing the delivery method is because they know that Season 1 was not up to par and not delivered well. Paying money =/= better content.

Can’t exactly trust devs words. Twice now we have received assurances from devs that recipes/item drop rates were not bugged and working as intended (Final Rest, Chaos of Lyssa).

And both times they were bugged.

Except they were not bugged. Depending on how you define a bug. They were working as coded and the code was working correctly. The calculations they used to specify the code were not optimal however.

The GW2 Universe

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Technically yes it is, but don’t expect too much cross over. The GW2 team seems to want to focus on their own stories and give little acknowledgment to the original game (besides some lip service and occasional references)

Personally, it doesn’t even feel like the same planet to me.

Unfortunately I’m coming to terms with the fact that it might be true.
I hope season 2 gives us more ties to GW1 lore. I hope we see more returning elements ( especially armor and weapons).

Here’s hoping.

There are SO many ties to GW1 in GW2 already. I can see many people did not read the novels put out in the interim between the games, as that covers much of the lore and how GW2 got the way it is.

I have also found so many little clues around GW2, such as the clues about Cantha in the Priory office in Destiny’s Reach, etc. They are there if you want to look and take the time to read them all.

I have read all three and every piece of content they have released since. I also understand it is 250 years later so things are bound to be different. But having played these games since 2006 I can say with some sort of understanding that GW2 is not making real substantial attempts to tie itself to GW1’s lore. Sure they have minor references hidden in book carts and in basements of the libraries. But to use a poor cooking analogy, I feel like GW2 has some GW1 flavoring sprinkled on it instead of displaying it as a major portion.

I think this is a missed opportunity. This game lacks depths as it is. That’s going to happen to any new MMO. However, the Guild Wars franchise has real depth and a wonderfully full universe and GW2 could tap into that a lot more than they currently are.

The problem is the majority of GW1 is human centric. There are other races in this game. The story is on a much larger scale now as it includes all races of Tyria. Just just Tyria according to the humans. Due to this a lot of the human storyline can not be used unless a GW1 faction gets so powerful that they effect Tyria as a whole.
