Could you clarify a bit on that first point? I remember something about CM but not the specifics.

There is a are in CM between the backyard and the boss at the end that just has too many mobs to fight. If you attack one it bring too many and the party is likely to wipe so there is no way to wipe all the mobs. I think Sorrow’s Embrace also has a similar area.

Oh, are you referring to the hounds in Path 2? There’s a mob with a pack of hounds that pats around in the back. I’m a little confused as to what you mean by this being by design in regards to my listed “semi common complaint #1”. I would think that if this group dropped decent loot that players would make more of an attempt to kill it rather than flee. Or at least, in most of the runs I’ve done of CM players usually vote to flee.

I am talking about this point. Me and some non-pugs tried to kill them all once. It did not go well. But that was closer to launch so it actually may be possible now.

http://youtu.be/uOtXAGZKTDk?t=5m10s

I am fine with some content being designed to be skipped. But I think that most should not and that the trash mobs in general should at least always drop something.

On your point 1. There are some dungeons that this is actually by design. Caudecus’s Manor is the only one where this is the case though from what I have seen so far.

As for BOA BOP items. I think if it is a a guaranteed drop or a high chance then BoA and BOP is acceptable. Otherwise I think it should be allowed in the trading post. I do agree with the balance between RNG and obtaining items though a series of quests however.

While i gave suggestions for better organisation and messaging for the large scale events. I actually think IT IS A COMPLETE MISTAKE for this to be the major endgame content. It only appeals to a certain subset of players, they need to make more complex, interesting content for players who prefer lower man things as well. They also need to have open world things that are designed for solo/duo/trio players, and other group sizes.

tequatl was a great organizational fight, it was boring as tears when executed well, and pretty stupid. stand in the lag center of the universe, and take dmg while people endlessly res you until you cant be ressed anymore. I appreciate what it gives, but i wouldnt want that to be the main focus of elder game play

I am fine with festivals having items like this. However I sure hope that the living world in the future will contain more small group content(dungeons/fractals) more events to explore and more personal story(or Personal story like) content.

A few events like this is ok to give those raiders something. But too much more of this will drive away players that can’t get into really large groups.

I kind of wish this game’s loot system felt more like Diablo. It would be exciting to kill just about anything if there was always a chance at something special. Of course GW2 gear doesn’t have variable stats, so this isn’t really possible.

I want to see more challenging content that yields great rewards. And by that I don’t mean a tank+spank boss fight with billions of HP that has a 0.00001% chance to drop an ascended weapon. Give me a proper dungeon boss fight with multiple mechanics and smart AI that has more like 10-15% chance to drop ascended.

The good news is they increased the drop chance for ascended in fractals.

There has been a lot of talk recently about the lack of rewards of the game in general. I often feel this effect myself. But I continually ask myself. Am I just not seeing the rewards I am actually getting. Is the game actually rewarding me or is the loot really that bad. To help me determine if the loot is really that bad I ask myself a few questions.

1.) What do I consider a good reward? How often should I feel rewarded.

2.) Should time or difficulty dictate how I am rewarded.

3.) How much gold per hour should I expect to earn from selling loot and drops?

4.) Is my perception of my reward influenced by a goal I am aiming for?

5.) Perhaps my magic find is too low.

Based upon those and attempting to have rational logical thought about the matter I have come the the conclusion. Yes there is a problem with the loot on two fronts the indication that you are getting rewarded well and the fact that gold income outside of dungeons is low. Here is how I answered the questions.

I consider rares and exotics as well as tier 6 mats good rewards for a level 80. I do not consider guaranteed drops of a rare to have the same feeling as a mob drop of a rare. While I know I get Tier 6 materials I don’t know that I am getting them. It is hard to tell the difference between a Tier 6 and a Tier 5. Perhaps tiered materials need to have a rarity signal of their own.

I think rewards should be based upon difficultly not time. However I think time and the type of event should also be a factor. I think the Gold rewards should not be just 1-3 silver for all events. World and group events should reward more. Living story events that are designed to be difficult or take group coordination should also reward more.

I feel that I should get anywhere between 5-10 gold per day with a small amount of that coming from dungeons. I don’t think that anyone should be expected to run more then 1-3 dungeons per day. I think fractals should reward more then dungeons. To be honest I don’t know how much I get per day so I can’t say if I am getting rewarded close to what I expect I should get.

Also I find that my perception of rewards is greatly effected by what I think is rewarding. As most of my crafting is past 400 now I no longer feel rewarded on the lesser tier materials.

Then again maybe my magic find is just too low. I am currently at ~87

That is my view. What is your view?

TL;DR There is a loot problem in my opinion. How do you want to be rewarded? What do you feel is a good reward?

Also do not bring up the gem store or converting gems to gold in this post. It is off topic.

Telegraphs and Boss mecanics

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

I really like some of the mechanics of the new Bosses in the pavilion. The telegraphs were helpful on determining where we needed to be. The telegraphs allow for massive damage and close to one hit kills but yet still avoidable. I think one hit shots are fine from bosses as long as the damage is avoidable.

A lot of the mechanics require you to stay on your toes.

The centaur mechanic was interesting and kept me on my toes I like how the centaurs trampled you if you did not avoid them but yet you could still dodge to avoid them. The Orge mechanic was interesting. I liked how you had to do something to avoid getting a environmental damage. The Lava walls from the flame legion made sure you had to watch where you were jumping and when the tell on that could be a better however.

I think it would be great if they brought other mechanics like this to other parts of the games. Especially dungeons we need more small group difficult content that is immune to stacking.

A bit part of the problem was the advertising. Most people were expecting a farm when this event was announced. Players expectations were found to be otherwise. I like the mechanics I like the way telegraphs are used. I like the special abilities that they have. Sadly because the loot is so so in comparison to what it was before a lot of people are not having fun and leaving the event even people who would normally do the event as designed if it was advertised and our expectations were set correctly.

2. Participate in the race from start to finish (i.e. you didn’t join into a race already in progress)? 1 yes 1 no.
3. Anything else you can think of that might cause problems (e.g. back when the bug was still active, you got killed in the Sprint via sigil on-swap effects)? This event was built for the Chinese in order to introduce skins from previous LS stuff that we already have. Too bad Anet can’t/won’t just come out and say so.

Except…. They have. Many times.

As part of the celebration of our launch in China, we’re holding an in-game festival that brings back some of the best-loved Living World content!

Must mostly they mentioned that during the china Beta Festival.

I think a dev mentioned it on the forums too.

They said why they made the most recent change in the patch notes. Basically someone made a good argument on why they should be removed and they listened.

This change is being made to ensure new players focus on learning the core game experience.

While I do think they don’t want you to farm extensively I don’t think that is the reason why they removed them from the low level areas.

Note: I have nothing against champ farms in high level areas.

Fervid censer is there (white rose), the red rose and catchers are tradeable (though I hope to get the latter through the event). I’m mostly disappointed with absence of shattered wings.

And this is why they are not available in this patch. They are still obtainable. They are putting in the items that are not available though trade. They may be in a future patch down the line when there is none left in the trading post. The may not.

Is the gold to gems rate fair in gw2?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

I think it is fair however I don’t think some of the items in the Gem Store are worth their value in gold to gem conversion. Nor do I think they are worth their value in hard earned IRL cash.

Example of these items are:

Boosters
Upgrade extractor.
Black Lion Keys(Due to the RNG involved.)

That’s because the prices are set based on cash value, not gold. As long as the cash value are in line with other game’s cash shops then everything is right as rain.

If you think they’re overpriced based on an every increasing gold price, don’t buy those items. If you think 1680 gems for 25 keys, that’s $21 worth of gems, isn’t worth 166g so be it.

I know that they are based upon cash value. The rewards vs Cost(Both Gems and Gold) are not worth it for the items I mentioned in my opinion. I know I can just not buy them and I don’t. I have found another method to get what I wanted from the Black lion kits without buying the Black Lion kits.

What sets the Gold->Gems price?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Anet could easily influence the price by adding more gems to the supply everytime gem price went higher than e.g. 15 gems per gold, which was the last time that they were reasonably affordable.

It has not risen that much. Currently 15 Gems cost 1 Gold 43 silver 15 copper. At the time of this writing.

The thing that likely sells the most is the Skins on the Gem store. That currently goes for 76g 40s 0c (800 Gems) at the time of this writing. I do think some things need a price adjustment however. Upgrade extractors, Black Lion Keys, Black Lion Salvage kits are a example in my opinion.

I think really they just needed to (or need to) explain his backstory with the orders, whether in a short or in dialogue inside the game. Show us tales of why he’s so widely respected.

Everything I’ve heard is that Sylvari players (Who meet him much earlier) went smoothly into the post Claw Island story without issue, while other races got confused slightly at Trahearne.

That is basically what I was trying to say.

Reminder: Personal Story is horrible

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

anzenketh, exactly: up until Claw Island most storylines are just fine, some even brilliant (Charr Blood Legion!). It all falls apart when they get smashed together and we get the phlegmatic shrub as a commander.

I actually don’t think the problem is Trahearne as a character. A lot of players place blame on him when he is not the problem. I actually enjoy his character. The problem is the transition. We are not given emotional reason to care for him as a commander. He is just someone that our mentors respected but is just a scholar. They tried by attempting the transition from scholar to commander but failed as he did not prove himself. We were not given a good enough reason to accept his lead and care for him. Even though that is what the second half of the story is about.

Sometimes I feel that the true personal story takes place in the dungeons for the second half of the personal story. This is where the character development takes place. That is also why on my play-though try to complete the dungeons when I am at level for them and do the personal stories at the level.

I actually like the Personal Story.

My only qualms is that it can conflict with the Living World making things weird like LA.

I also in general like the Personal Story. Enough that I still plan on playing all of the interactions. Even to the level 80 story steps.

I hope that they continue the Personal Story. The lack of the cut-scene to ingame cutscene will help the immersion and allow them to do better storytelling and less like a cheap play with no props. I am glad they scraped that idea.

It is a bit jarring that we are defending a city that is already destroyed. This is part of the reason why I really hope they re-build LA.

(thought Tybalt was too much comic relief for anyone to take seriously)

But Tybald was simply fun. I would have followed him 100 times more likely through the end of the story than Mr. “this won’t end well” Trahearne.

I understand why they have him a bit under powered in actual play this is acceptable. Otherwise it would be too easy like the human commoner first 10 levels. At least I do not have to rez him all the time like a do Logan. But this is exactly what I mean by the transition to Trahearne did not work well. A lot of players have no respect for him because he does not feel like a hero alongside us.

I think the problem was they tried so hard to make it feel like our story that they crippled the ability for us to respect the commander of the Pact. If they gave Trahearne some Heroic cut-scene a few times to show his progression from scholar to commander then I think people would like him a lot better.

Man Arah story is one of the coolest dungeons I’ve ever played in any game ever. So the fight with Zhaitan himself is easy, whatever, take in the dungeon as a whole, the story, the environment, it really is pretty awesome.

Its not about the dungeon…its about the lamest Boss battle in the history of gaming Ever. A Boss battle should be interesting and difficult and memorable, yet zaithan is a huge dissapointment in each and every way.

And what were you expecting exactly? A God of War 3 type of Battle where you are running up the back of an acres sized dragon? Each one of those sequences in that game (as well as other games like Shadow of the Colossus) cost millions of dollars to develop and get working properly, and I am kind of glad that Anet didn’t blow their whole budget on a single boss battle.

I am sure a lot of us were expecting something like that. Including me. However I understand why they did not do it.

I recently was looking at Penny Arcade and I read the following comic that is somewhat on this topic:

http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2014/04/07/time

This got me thinking about loot time and rarity. The community is very vocal on it a lot of people hate it. Blame it on RNG. Hate on RNG. Saying RNG is horrible. When in fact although there is RNG in the game. The majority of things that are behind a RNG can be bypassed. The problem is bypassing RNG does not feel rewarding. Getting lucky feels rewarding. Something that happens rarely feels rewarding. Although something that overall may be rare. If it happens to us too frequently or takes too long to make it does not feel rewarding.

Loot the majority of the time is actually useful. You get materials that you can use to combine with other materials to get nice looking and useful items. Or you can sell your unneeded items for gold that you can use to get the materials toward your goal. The problem with loot and rarity in most cases is not a problem with the design in the game. It is a problem with what we value. Time and our ability to be in the moment. The game should be it’s own reward. The items that we need to move forward in our goal should feel rewarding also. However they are not.

The trick with RNG is finding the balance between Time Spent/Difficulty and the amount that is rewarded. But yet not have something be so common that it turns into a situation that rare items don’t feel rewarding. Where the balance is I honestly don’t know. That is why I try to play the game for the games sake not the loot. Otherwise I too would have likely quit long ago.

Reminder: Personal Story is horrible

The transition to and from claw island is where things fall apart. The earlier parts I find are usually rather good.

I think the biggest downfall to the personal story is the fact that it is a root to tree with no branches. I understand why this was done.

I think the other problem is that they split off part of the personal story into dungeons(Story mode). If you let the dungeons(Story mode) replace your main personal story it flows a lot better. But the personal story itself does not require you to play them.

I hope they work more on the features than on the living story.
Roll out a huge pack of skills and traits, reworking the old useless ones.

They did a lot of that in the last feature pack.

presale was huge for NA too. but with ANet’s content release speed, retaining that 500k is highly unlikely

You mean releasing stuff faster than more or less every other MMO in the world?

i don’t know what other mmo’s you have played but guild wars 2 has had no new permanent release since launch

This Google docs begs to differ. Please be more specific when you say “Permanent release/content”

From what I was seeing they did have the new wardrobe or was I missing something what I was looking at their streams.

Dear Devs, simple yes or no on this matter is more than enough. Thanks in advance & have a nice day!

But they have already responded. They said it is not planned. You can translate that to no. Reason why they said not planned is so that someone years down the road if they ever decide to do it can not call foul.

Why we hear nothing but Silence from ANet?

Hence my store analogies. When you open a new store, you hire new staff. Some of the existing staff goes to help open the new store…but you only send what you can afford to send. You always leave behind enough to run the old store and handle customer issues. That’s how we do it. Clearly it’s not how ANet does it.

The fact that the guys who can answer us are busy with China is exactly the issue. They did not leave anyone behind to handle the existing market. Why not? And why shouldn’t they be taken to town about this? If we did the same exact thing with one of our stores the community for that store would flip their kitten. It would do irreparable damage to that community and our reputation as a company.

The guys that went over were not the equivalent of lowly retail employees and managers. They are more the equivalent in the retail business of corporate coming to visit.

Also the majority of those that post on the forums here are not the low level employees. They are typically team leads or higher.

It’s not like it’s a completely crazy thing for the Game Director to leave for a big launch. And it’s borderline insane to suggest that they should have hired an additional game director for the China launch.

Video games are not retail, anyway, and I wish we’d quit with the rather tortured metaphors.

They do have a Aisa Game director his name Jason Roberts. But his job is not the same as Chris Whiteside. If the credits are still correct it is more equivlent to Colins Job. Colin may also be in China helping Jason Roberts.

Ok, I know, I know, you say it’s because of the Chinese release, but I just can’t stop wondering…

…whaddazhaitan are all of them doing in China if they’re launching the same game, simply translated and with a minor premium BLTC thingie, and whaddatrahearne is doing the Chinese team then?

Giving them the same red carpet treatment they gave us when we pre-pruchased the game. Listening to their feedback. Teaching them the game. Responding to their concerns. Playing the game with them.
