WvW is a massively complex game mode. It is really easy to develop for PvE, more difficult to develop for small PvP. Extremely hard to develop for something like WvW especially on a live game.

Just thought I would jump in and make a slight correction to something being said. Commander tags do get a chat title in squad chat.

I am actually glad that they did not add that to map chat or /say also. Then everyone will want to get a commander just to have the “prestige” of being called commander in map chat.

Also commander tags are getting a upgrade (squads are specifically). It is just not in the game yet as it broke things before. It should be in around the time raids hit. Mentors can not run squads.

A title only in squad chat, while the mentors get it everywhere. Totally fair.

I am actually glad that they did not add a chat title to map chat or /say also. Then everyone will want to get a commander just to have the “prestige” of being called commander in map chat.

It is not about being fair it is about what is best for the game. Want the chat title get the required mastery.

Favor replaced guild Merits. Favor is gained by doing guild missions. Influence was replaced by Aetherium. Aetherium is gained over time(basically a glorified time gate). Aetherium also does not require your guild to do anything (or possibly anyone to even rep) it from what I see. This is a good thing for small guilds. I am in the process of making a excel spreadsheet and updating the wiki to provide the requirements for everything.

Oh and yes I would agree it is a item sink. This is a good thing as one is needed.

Legendary...for the non-crafters..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

I kind of have to agree with this.

A Legendary in GW2 is not a Legendary at all. There is nothing Legendary about grinding/farming/crafting a weapon. It should have some sort of story behind it or a huge quest line or something. Not just require you to play the RNG game and grind for it. There is nothing Legendary about them.

I would like to see an actual Legendary weapon in GW2. One that has a history and takes you on a journey throughout the game, find the pieces and facing challenging foes as you delve into the depths of some forgotten tomb to piece together a long forgotten Legendary relic of the past. Then have to face some epic boss to siphon their essence into the blade of old to awaken it’s true potential.

Not “hey let’s go gamble in the forge and then craft some pieces to make this epic weapon!”. There is nothing Legendary about that.

You may get your wish in Heart of Thorns.

F2P accounts, WvW and API accessibility

Maybee a Flag called “wvw” is the best one.

It can be 1 for a normal account.
And 0 for a Free 2 Play Account, but automatic set to 1 if one character arrived level 60

Mmm I think having an account-type indicator would make more sense here. Maybe just have a flag to indicate one of 3 types: Free, Core, or HoT. We could then determine for ourselves if the account has access to WvW – Free with a level 60 (or higher) character, or Core/HoT.

This flag could also be used for other things. Say a Raid planner in a guild website would allow people to be warned if they can’t join the raid when they are planning it.

I am a uncoordinated casual folk that ran Revenant with only exotics. I also consider myself a average Joe player that has played for a while. I did not have a difficult time in fights. Night was a bit more difficult but I attributed that to night and mob density. If I wanted to get to point B I just bunkered down until daytime or joined a larger group. I find that working as intended.

Mobs difficulty feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

A lot of the mobs are new and have new mechanics. People need time to learn them. I think with time they will learn to adapt. I personally am not finding it much more time consuming or difficult to kill a single NPC on the revenant then I do with any other NPC of equal level in the game.

Another thing. I understand that at night I can not just mosey my way walking though the mobs. At night it should be more difficult to get around. However nighttime is not obvious at the moment. I think once night is fixed that people will understand that it is night and they just need to bunker down and wait for it to be over then get moving. I do not want this feeling to go away.

Also with gliding it makes movement less difficult and annoying. Once people unlock gliding they will no longer have a issue.

The difficulty of mobs at night remind me of Orr back when it was harder. During day the difficulty of mobs remind me of Orr as it is now. I think it is honestly a density “issue” at night. Working as designed.

I was also playing as a Revenant a class a lot of people were saying they were having issues with. I am also normally what people would call a casual. I think the mob difficulty is perfect the way it is. Not too hard not too easy. I hope the boss fights(did not get to play one) will be a small challenge too.

[beta] How does mastery progression feel?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Got through 2 tiers of Itzel Lore and first tier in gliding in about 2 and a half hours. I really think they should make it longer to level up, or at least add in more tiers because if this is really the entire mastery system for HoT it’s not going to take very long to get all of them.

How much XP did the 3rd tier take to complete?

If my guess is correct it would take about 1,081,451 XP to level the 3rd tier. Also if my guess is correct it would take about 50-60 “level 80 levels” to complete a single mastery. That means that it would take 200-300 “level 80 levels” to complete all the masteries that are currently available in the beta and we know that some are missing. Now obviously you are not going to be able to please everyone. However I think that is more then enough time to have completing all of them within reach of the average player but still keep it something to keep them occupied.

For anyone wondering my guess I think they are simply taking the previous tier and putting it to a power of approximately 1.0398

Based on my guess I think that the speed to level is right we just need more masteries added (I know we are missing some) to make our choices impact the game but yet at the same time obtaining them not be a grind.

But the things is , impossible odds , is impossible to maintain for more than 10 secs and at that point you’ve exhausted all energy and can’t use any skills

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

I think you have to ask the question of what mastery you were working on. Different mysteries have different exp requirements at different levels. For the most part I think they hit close to the sweet spot as long as they continually add more.

Glider master
381,000 for the first level.
635,000 for the second level

Itzel,Exalted,Nuhoch for the first tier
240,000

Legendary for the first tier
1,270,000

Fractal for the first tier
254,000

I think with some of these it may be too long if you are watching it. Perhaps it might be a good idea to treat it a little like the PvP reward track and have a big thing that we are working for but have a few little markers along the way that we may even get a reward at.

I am hesitant to say lengthen the time on some (Gliding is extremely useful in the new map. I think that should stay as it is.) However others might need to be lengthened as this is our progression after 80. If they frequently add more however they may be fine with how they are.

“Reorganising data” my backside T_T

It irks me that it’s going to be the default. Why not let new players choose upon installation, and players who already have the client installed can switch over if they want to? I sure won’t keep it as my default. Of course, I do have a fast connection, but why force players to switch, and then switch back?

Because players don’t want to wait a long time to play the game if they are re-installing it after uninstalling it. They are less likely to re-install if this is the case.

If it is at all like GW1 download system it will prioritize the map that you are going too.

Of course if you hate loading screens you could always change back. Me personally when HOT releases I would rather play the game while I am waiting for it to download.

I think you have to opt in, not out, Red Queen.

If you don’t do that, you’re not using the beta streamer.

You have to opt into the beta. Opt out of the feature when it is out of beta.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

There was a story in GW1 as the skip counter was pressuring me not to inconvenience anyone.

On a serious note after Season 1 the story got better. I would say it is now close to on par with GW1 story(What I have seen of it at least).

I don’t follow the story, either. Not because I don’t want to but… I’m new to GW2 and never played GW1. I’m glad living story is there for people but I don’t get this “living” bit where the story will advance before my new player self has ever seen it. I don’t want to be rushed I have a day job.

I am pro independent role play options. That would include a social zone with obtainable furniture and decor and animations to interact with said objects.

A lot of people made this point while season 1 was active. The result season 2 you can purchase the entire season for 800 gems(About $10) Or 106 Gold 64 Silver(At it’s current trade rate).

The reason why they put it behind a paywall is they want people to continually log in and not take a break. This keeps the population high. That increases the chance of a gems tore purchase. It also makes the game feel more alive.

They are working to bring season 1 to a similar style like Season 2. This will take time however.

Will Bolts of Damask ever drop in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Cloth nodes are not needed as every enemy target in the game is a potential node for cloth & leather (as are the loot bags many of them drop). Now the fact that enemies all drop items leveled for current character level is an issue for the T2-T4 mats, but loot bags and the TP can solve that issue easily enough.

Since the exact same thing can be said for metal and wood, I ask you why there are ore and lumber nodes in the game.

Because metal and wood have a huge sink in crafting rare lvl 80 weapons for the forge.
Cloth and leather dont have that extra sink.

You make a good point. Note to self. Stock up on metals and wood when Legendary crafting comes out the price may go up.

Question
So then perhaps a question might come would you rather have the opportunity to choose your gamemode or have shorter queue times.

Population issue are a valid concern. But this decision makes no sense at all. While it might alleviate population issues, it’ll destroy the potential the gamemode has.

Splitting atleast conquest and stronghold will cause short term population unbalance, however long term (depending on the enjoyability of the gamemode) it will boost sPvP in its entirety.

Maybe their guild LB’s will make sense of this all.

One could also argue that having longer queue times could be more of a issue. This is why I suggested a system where people vote on a gamemode then vote on the map.

In addition to that host tournaments for all game mode types. They could even be automatic tournaments with vary good in game rewards (perhaps even gems). The difference is tournaments would happen at a specific time negating the queue problem.

I’m a casual competitive player. Custom arena doesn’t offer me a competitive infrastructure. I want a ranked experience with rewards tied to it.

Voting on gamemode still means you need to be lucky. It has to be a 100% chance to play stronghold or conquest, whichever you want to play.

Acknowledgment
I can understand that you may not be lucky to get to play stronghold or conquest or deathmatch. But voting on the mode would increase your chances as it removes the RNG and then you must depend on the will of the players that you play with.

Argument
One could also argue that rank matches should not allow you to get 100% guarantee of the map choice you want. The reason for this is that ranking higher in the leaderboards should demonstrate that you are good at all PvP modes not just one type.

Solution and problem with solution
The solution to this is make a different leaderboard for each game type. However if the playerbase shrinks that also increases the queue times. Queue times are already high for those that have a high MBR ( I think that is the right term ). Splitting the playerbase would only make this problem worse.

Question
So then perhaps a question might come would you rather have the opportunity to choose your gamemode or have shorter queue times.

Would be nice but still won’t solve the issue.

I have yet to hear a good argument on why build templates would not solve the majority of issues with the stronghold map being in the same queue as the other maps. Would you care to explain it to me.

- You can’t focus on one gamemode. You like Stronghold, but hate conquest? Tough luck, try the RNG voting.

Aside from the above reason which most people will agree with (I think?), I feel like this would have been the ideal moment to try a pug/guildteam only gamemode (a la HA/GVG from GW1). No option at all to solo/duoq it (or at least for the ranked version?). Several reasons why I’d think it would be a good thing for the game, which I have stated in an earlier comment.

I can understand those that want to focus one one game mode.

  • Is there a reason why custom arena is not viable?
  • If you voted on the game mode first then voted on map would this be acceptable.

Please note: I am not arguing for keeping it in the same queue. As it is right now I rather them be separate. These are questions that a developer may ask. I do see the point of people not wanting to queue for a long time for a chance to play the game mode. I would agree that this problem is greater with those that are better as sPvP.

Would be nice but still won’t solve the issue.

I have yet to hear a good argument on why build templates would not solve the majority of issues with the stronghold map being in the same queue as the other maps. Would you care to explain it to me.

So you are saying that people will leave the match if they don’t get the map they want. I agree with you on this matter. However would not the dishonored mechanic deter that action for the most part.

Acknowledgement
Also take note as the game is right now I agree that it needs to be a separate queue. However I think it is possible for them to make it work with it being in the same queue. I also understand their reasoning for doing so in the long term.

Suggestion
Perhaps there needs to be two votes. One for gametype one for map. I also feel that build templates will minigate most problems with them being in the same queue.

If we had build templates in the game multiple game modes in the same queue would not be as big of a problem.

I hope that they re-prioritize build templates so that it does not hurt these game modes due to players being unprepared with their builds.
