Orr is meant to be “dark, dreary and full of undead.” That’s not the issue, as that’s intentional and, imo, should remain.
How it is meant to be doesn’t mean it is good. It is the exact same thing Trion did in Rift early on and a similar lashback happened.
Orr is currently the most hated area in my guild. No one really likes it and it is barely tolerated because there really isn’t really another place for a level 80 to obtain loot or orichalcum. Frostgorge isn’t really a great alternative, it’s nothing but more snow. Orr is dark, dreary, and undead everywhere. Mobs are literally packed in like sardines and they are extremely annoying how they constantly just lock you down. The maps are a serious pain to navigate. I found myself looking at the minimap more than the world itself as I moved from resource node to resource node.
I suggest giving us a phased version of Orr after we complete Arah story mode. Make the world greener and without all the undead. Give us something that actually would make us enjoy spending all our time in it at level 80.
The fact is, the short bow out damages the longbow even if you don’t consider the short bow’s bleeds. A short bow will by far out damage the longbow on a power, precision, +crit damage build.
I support these pet changes.
Short bow by far. The longbow dps is abysmal, the lowest of all the Ranger weapons. The Rapid Fire on the longbow does less damage than the auto attack of the short bow.
I definitely notice how I lag behind most people in WvW. Warhorn is basically a necessity and that just seems wrong.

I think I’ve seen this suggested for other games. I always wonder why this feature is never added.
One of the many features missing from GW2 that is disappointing.
Too bad the Cursed Shore Minstrel doesn’t play the lute or do anything really. Honestly, I didn’t really even know he was there. I don’t like to explore Orr at all and I get in and out of the area as quickly as possible.
I completely agree with all the improvement suggestions for the pet.
Guild Wars 2 lacks a similar rewarding system for leveling up. We get basically all our weapon abilities within like the first 10 levels. Skill points don’t really feel like progression and trait points feel so minor.
Get rid of the constant diminishing returns throughout the game!

I think it dawned on ArenaNet that they didn’t have a grasp on the economy like they thought they did. Their artificially designed economy didn’t account for human action. Notice in the state of the economy article a little while ago they didn’t once mention that crafted goods are selling for under the price it takes to actually craft them? Their economy is screwed up and now they are trying to do damage control which will just make everything worse.

This has been requested so many times. It is disappointing Anet isn’t acknowledging the demand.
Guild Wars 2 doesn’t really have a skinner box.
The moa will heal itself.
No, spirits works great. It’s just that they die way too fast from damage, and sometimes they bug out in dungeons and die as soon as they are spawned. But while they are alive, they are a great tool to have. I’m really hoping that ArenaNet buffs them, by either giving the spirits skill effects a 100% chance of working, or giving the spirits more vitality/toughness. When you compare spirits with the Warrior banners, the spirits just seem way too weak
Even if they didn’t die, they wouldn’t be useful. Their internal cooldown only allows each pet to effect a single individual in your group at a time and their range is really poor. You have to dump 30 trait points into Nature Magic to even make them move.
Anyone else feel overall that the Ranger is relatively bland compared to the other Adventurer professions? Our pet is nice, and I like that it is a permanent fixture, but our class isn’t the only one with a pet. Four other classes have pets in some form. The major problems I think though are outside of our pet.
A lot of what we do do is relatively lacking and to use a lot of our utility skills the Ranger has to be fully dedicated to them. To use spirits, as an example, a ranger is basically required to put 30 points in Nature Magic. Another example is to use the traps effectively you need to trait 30 points in Skirmishing. This has really narrowed down the number of truly viable utility skills we can choose from for any other build. It also has basically made one of our elites completely worthless if we don’t spec 30 points in Nature Magic.
I am of the opinion that our weapons are kind of bland. It also seems we have a limited number of viable weapons with issues like the sword animation locking you and the longbow with extremely low dps. Our choices are basically shortbow and for our secondary weapon(s), a greatsword, if you want some AOE melee damage and an axe if you want the warhorn movement speed buff. I know some people like the other off-hand weapons, and they aren’t necessarily bad, but does anyone really want to give up the movement speed (fury and might)? And if the Ranger does, why would a Ranger not use the greatsword which is superior to the sword and axe?
Though honestly, the warhorn seems almost a must for the movement speed as we seem to lack the overall mobility of the other Adventurer professions with no movement speed trait and our best utility that adds movement speed is only 10%. Anyone else find it strange we have a basically useless trait that gives 30% movement speed to our pet?
On the topic of traits. We really do have some of the most useless traits. Evasive Purity is definitely up there on the worst traits of all time. A grandmaster trait that removes blind and poison on a dodge roll. Anyone can remove blind with a simple shot of their auto attack, and most likely will.
I know the Ranger is missing a lot of what it was originally designed with. Tracking is not in the game and neither is the permanent invisibility utility skill we originally had. I am not even sure adding those two back in would help the Ranger feel more complete, but it may help.

Ranger used to have a permanent stealth that was only active if he didn’t move. I was disappointed it never made it past alpha.
They are basically worthless right now, and you have to put 30 points in Nature Magic to make them a little less worthless. They should be similar to Warrior banners and Guardian spirit weapons in that they can’t be attacked. They should also have the radius of the Warrior banners and their overall effectiveness needs improved.
I also wish they look liked the spirit animals in Orr, those are cool.

While stealthed Jaguar does high damage
Tested it, same damage whether stealthed or not.
The F2 ability is a stealth that only effects the Jaguar itself. What’s the point of this? From my point of view, this has got to be the single most pointless thing I have ever seen in this game.
The greatsword damage is definitely too low. It does less damage than the shortbow, even without the bow’s bleeds.
This thread is a perfect example of why they should never add it.
sorry but pay 2 win does not exist here, any normal person can be decked out in top gear, unimpeded by other players in a few weeks.. once at the top, everyone has equal chance to build the same amount of things as the biggest limiting factor on siege is just the supply… it still proves so because i have had 8 golems in my inventory since the launch, havent had a reason to use any yet!
sorry but, if you think this is p2w, then you need go
There were multiple times when my server had access to enough supply to build siege golems, but 8 gold for 8 of them is expensive.

I would really love to have this implemented.
I have a question about the targeting though. Does the targeting lock onto a mob that the crosshair is on automatically and then lose target when you move it away? Can you set it up so you put the crosshair on it and then press a key to target it and then make it keep the target regardless?

The question should be whether power/crit build can out damage a condition build, even if you use a staff.
The rewards in this game on a whole are lousy.
ColinJohanson, I think you should read this thread.
Definitely awful. I never plan to get a legendary bow. In a way, I should thank them, I don’t need to spend all that that time for useless grind.
The problem isn’t that the shortbow is OP, it is that the longbow is completely underpowered. It’s the lowest dps weapon the Ranger has
The shortbow out damages the longbow in every instance, including if you stack power and crit.
You should probably go test before you take what someone else says and believe it.
I have dps tested it. Even at the longbow’s maximum range, the shortbow out damages it with power and crit.

I am starting to think forced server transfers of entire guilds is going to be needed.
I definitely agree.
It is really a let down that champions and epic mobs in dungeons and the world have basically the same drops as trash mobs. All the chests also have the exact same loot tables, just more of it. I have seen two orange items drop in my guild so far and neither were from the boss mobs. One was a trash mob in HotW and another was a trash mob in Orr. Something seems seriously off. Right now our biggest hope is to see a yellow so we can turn it into ectoplasm.
Give us something to hope for when defeating these types of mobs. Even veterans should have better loot tables than the rest of the trash in the world. It would be nice if each boss mob throughout the world had its own unique loot table.
Orr is one of the worst places I have seen. It reminds me a lot of the level 50 Rift zone which was just as bad, but smaller.
What makes designers think it is a good idea to make the zones you spend the most time in dark, dreary, bland, filled with a bunch of the same type of mobs, and a pain to get around in? These Orr zones are downright not fun and the worst part of the game.
I was out running through Cursed Shore earlier today and I stumbled on two rangers with random lettered names camping a single area. It didn’t take much study to see that they were obviously bots in how they acted.
Also the most glaring thing was the fact that they teleported. Anytime too many mobs would get on them they would teleport backwards, or to reach mobs that were further away, they would teleport forward. They were doing this repeatedly , including the times I ran mobs through their hunting spot. It would happen successively really quick if they didn’t get far enough away.

I would like a PVP server, but I don’t think FFA would work for GW2. A team based PVP server would work well though. Maybe based around the Orders.
I would like the ability to name change characters in general.
I have never liked this idea. It just seems lazy. Want to type and run just hit auto run.
You think it’s lazy to not push a couple of keys to move your character?
+1 Yes, please.
I would like to see the option for guilds who claim a keep or tower to set a message everyone on your server can see in the top right of the screen when they enter that keep or tower.
I found it absolutely dumbfounding for the game not to have player to player trading. I really have no words for ArenaNet’s refusal to add it despite the high demand…
Ahh, now it makes sense..
I always thought that those rapid fire hits were separate, like 2k + 2k + 3k etc..
If that were the case you would see people die instantly and not seem to have 50k health.
Shortbow is the single target dps/control utility, longbow is the aoe/single target burst/control utility.
I disagree with the shortbow being the highest ST damage a ranger can do, one handed swords do much more damage ST.
The sword does slightly less damage than the shortbow without the bleeds.
The only benefit you get from this combo is the AOE and the knockback on the longbow. Maybe 1500 range if you trait it. Not exactly sure it is worth giving up the chill and fury/might/swiftness of the Axe/Warhorn.
The vulnerability on the longbow isn’t worth switching from the shortbow because you lose more dps than you gain because of the cooldown on the weapon swapping.

How can rapid fire doing 2-5k hits be worst dps?!
Rapid fire isn’t hitting for 2-5k hits. That high damage number you see is the cumulative damage as it adds up over the course of the channel. The shortbow ‘1’ attack does more damage without the bleeds in the same time as rapid fire.
(edited by arcaneclarity.5283)
You say ‘only warhorn’ like it’s a bad thing.
The warhorn is a great item, and it provides more than just a speed boost.
Hunter’s Call isn’t very good. I can do over three times the damage with my shortbow ‘1’ attack without the bleeds in the time it takes to cast it and output the damage.
