See you show your true self there you do not believe what others say at all and only what you WANT to think. Your pulling all your info off of view of the negative. From your point of view any game with a level system has a grind and there is no game with out some type of system like this even the fps have a grind system where you must unlock new guns etc.. or even rank up.

GW2 is a good game and there a lot in it to make it well worth the 60$ or so fee to get it and with the adding of free content i can see this game being worth hanging on to for some time.

Why should I believe what you say when simple logic refutes it? ArenaNet are a business and their main goal is profit. ArenaNet has demonstrated with the Nov 15th patch that they have no issues with alienating their customers. Their game has a cash shop. Even more, it allows you to trade real life currency for virtual currency. Their game also has an unbearably low rate of virtual currency acquisition. Ergo, I can (and rightly so) assume that ArenaNet is reducing the means to obtain virtual currency in-game to such a level that it becomes a grind, in order to encourage gem purchases.

Once again, why? Because ArenaNet has shown not to have principle and their goal is profit. If players accept it (and they have – at least some of them), why not do it?

Sure ArenaNet like money, every developer does. But to be honest, you can do a full ori run and get 1g in 30 minutes everyday. Go further and do your dailies and a dungeon or two and you’ll probably land around 2g. Use the 2g on the TP and start buying low and selling high and you’ll see that your money will grow. It is not that hard to make money in this game, if you do this you should have a steady rate of at least (starting at 2g) +5% +2g. Or…

Current Money = m

2g + m*0.05

Every. Day.

Why is my fun dependent on having to take a break from a game? Me forgetting about it for awhile and then picking it back up isn’t having fun because it’s a good game… it’s tricking myself until I remember why I put it down to begin with. Sure, I may trick myself into fun, in an “ignorance is bliss” fashion, but I’d rather just have a game I legitimately enjoy booting up.

So what does this say about you? You don’t enjoy the game, but you are on the forum for the game? Sounds a bit sadistic to me.

No i still play the game, just more casually than I used to. I just didn’t understand the argument…. which sorry, I misread “forum” and thought “game”. Nonetheless, my original point stands. Why does taking a break from something make the game better when nothing has changed?…. Taking a break from forums or the game doesn’t mean the game has gotten better/worse unless there was an actual change made during your break.

I took a nice break from the game and forums for the past two weeks as well… the game is pretty much the same as I left it. If anything, it’s “sameness” has caused me to play it less as there are still issues that are diminishing my ability to full enjoy the game.

You know, you may just not like the game. There’s nothing wrong with that, and there is plenty of other mmorpgs out there for you to try out.

I’m sorry but I have to laugh at some of these posts saying “gear is thrown at you” and “no grind” and the cake winner is “Guild Wars 2 has end game at 80, in which you can get exotic gear fairly easily.” Simply amazing. GW2 first of all is a grind. Tell me how having to events over and over and over and over etc. again to just get a couple levels so you can go to the next zone (leveling) not a grind? The whole quest system is the worst in any mmo and extremely grindy and beyond repetitive.

2nd gear isn’t thrown at you.

3rd there is NO end game here. You have a dungeon to keep running. You can do pvp which for this game is a complete joke. Craft. Or work on your gear which we were told in the beginning would be about gear progression and now it is.

Also these forums have nothing to with how people feel in-game. If for you, you allow people to speak and think for you and so then you start to hate the game then maybe you shouldn’t ever go on gaming forums.

If doing dungeons, PvP, crafting, and gathering items is not end game content, then please present me with a game that provides end game content that is not one of these.

Seriously folks.
You all need to take them off and calm down. There is so many apocalypse threads, and conspiracy theory threads, and threads made just to complain that it’s like walking into an old folks home discussing their fears of dubstep making children into demons.

I’d actually like to take this time to thank the moderators, the PR staff from ANet, and the developers for having the patience to deal with all of us. Yes, myself included. They’re working their tails off to fix current issues, to make new content, and to keep improving on old content; and they do this all for free. (assuming you don’t buy gems)

Most problems are not really issues.
Class imbalances always exist, even WoW can’t seem to get it right, and btw; that old fable about only two people working on balance in GW2 is false, there are quite a few teams doing this. Ascended armor is not that big of a deal, the stat increases aren’t really going to help all that much. Unless they continue to release more upgrades and more tiers of armor, we don’t need to worry. No, screaming that they are going to, and the game is dead because of it isn’t valid, take off your x-ray glasses and foil hat. The economy took a strange hit because of the one time event that dropped precursors, and that was a mistake on Anet’s part to put such a high drop rate in, but they will fix it in time. Nexon isn’t going to buy out ArenaNet. Improvements will be made. The game will evolve over time.

But really, the point of this post is to say this: There really isn’t much wrong with the game, speculation and worrying will just kill you. Just have fun, and if you aren’t, well you wont lose anything from leaving, the game will be here waiting for you when you get back.

Take a break from the forums every once in awhile. You will find that the game becomes fun again.

If you’re into korean style grinding, then yes, the game has been, is and will be fun.

The game is not a grind. Anyone who says that it is is falsely informed. Everquest was a grind. Aion was a grind. WoW was a grind. Guild Wars 2 has end game at 80, in which you can get exotic gear fairly easily. Ascended gear is an optional upgrade, and honestly, that 20 extra vitality isn’t going to help that much. Everyone needs to calm down about that stuff. Seriously. If they release a next tier of stats after this, THEN we can get mad about it, but now, it is not that big of a deal.
But yeah, this game =/= grind. That is the most hilarious statement I’ve heard in a while.

Two week ago, I was doom and gloom about everything in the present, past, and future for Guild Wars 2. Everything seemed wrong, and the game felt unplayable with the vast amount of bugs within it. However, last Monday, when I stopped going on the forums, I was having fun again!
I simply explored the world, enjoyed the scenery, and collected cool items. I wasn’t focusing on the problems, I was just focusing on playing the game. I did daily ori runs on my 80’s, I leveled up my guardian and my necro, I PvP’d here and there, and I bought myself the precursor for the legendary torch. Overall, I had fun again.

The forums for any mmorpg is full of people who complain about issues with the game, and is needed to find these bugs and fix them properly. However, constantly reading these negative threads about issues and complaints can be a burden on our fun. Sometimes we need to take a break from it and get back to playing the game! A lot of the issues on the forums aren’t even that big of a deal in game. You’d be surprised!

So my message is basically this:
Take a break from the forums every once in awhile. You will find that the game becomes fun again.

I guess I’ll say I hope it wasn’t me.

I run all the way out to an area to farm monsters for crafting materials for my alts, because I don’t like to pay to travel. Since it takes so long to get out there, I’ll stay there a day or two. When I start feeling like the DR code is hitting me, I’ll park ny a node or two and either teleport to WvW to play, or play an alt. Either way, if I were someone other than me, and happened to be at a node when I came and went, would I be a teleport hacker?

If I am, I guess I should be mighty impressed with myself.

Now, if I saw some blink across the landscape from node to node, I would certainly think that was a teleport hack, because I can see where they were and where they went to in a given period of time.

No he blinked from my node to halfway out of my view distance, then gone. No animation changes, always the gathering one

Well I have a teleport spell, but it’s only 900, not very far. Ok that is weird.

Thought maybe you just meant someone appearing and going away after mining, that’s easy to explain.

XD I do not think you understand. I have 600+ hours in the game, I’ve played all the classes. He was a warrior. He teleported from nothing into the gathering node. He then teleported to another area, then disappeared. There is nothing in the game that allows you to do this. My internet connection was fine. He was a bot.

I'm Not Crazy!! Haha!!

YES! I finally got one of those teleporting bots that gather materials! He popped in beside me while I was gathering wood from a tree; I opened up the report box in preparation and what did you know, he teleported away again! I reported him and I feel as if I caught a UFO on camera. /tinfoil.

Hey guys arrownin here. I am a YouTuber, and I love Guild Wars 2. So I’d like to make something that involves my favorite game mixed with my favorite hobby, cutting to the chase; how many people here would watch a weekly show that was 5 minutes long, discussing 1 topic every minute.

  • minute one would be introduction presenting what topics would be covered, along with the best screenshot sent in from the previous week.
  • minute two discussing the “build of the week” showing off cool build ideas for various classes.
  • minute three would discuss the best forum posts of the week.
  • minute four would discuss official news and the status of the game.
  • minute five would be discussing the market and the status of items on the TP.

I’ll be posting this on the fan-generated content forums, and also the general discussion forums because I don’t really know what this falls under.

Post if you’d like a show like this! Any support helps, thanks!

Heard about ascended gear, thought; at least there’s a big patch to fix a lot.

Patch fixes nothing, at least there’s a cool event.

Event items all through chests with horrible skins, at least there’s the 1 time event.

1 time event lags beyond any lag known to mankind, and some dolphins, at least there’s new dungeon bags for tokens… ;_;

Chests And Psychological Conditioning

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: arrownin.3128

arrownin.3128

Hey guys arrownin here. I have been increasingly frustrated at the business practices of ArenaNet lately, and it is getting to the point in which I need to speak out against a certain aspect of their gem store. The Consortium Chests, or, any gambling/RNG type item that you buy with real money. My disapproval of these items is from a simple psychological mechanic that was discovered by a smart man by the name of B.F. Skinner. It was a box that conditioned test subjects to actively preform decisions in a controlled way; it was made to make you want to do something by your own accord. This box was called

For Those Who Do Not Have Time to Read…

TDLR;

  • Consortium Chests show ArenaNet’s movement to predatory and conditioning business practices that provide almost no value for massive amounts of gems/gold. The minipets and the costume items moved to the chests (halloween you could direct buy them) and this makes a gambling mechanic that uses psychological conditioning to make players buy more. This is not acceptable and is disgusting. You can buy them if you still want; I have nothing against you if you do.

The Skinner Box
Basically, Skinner made a box that had a button, and an electric grid and a food dispenser. A mouse/pigeon, or what have you would push the button, and there would be a chance of getting food, or getting a slight jolt from the grid. Eventually, Skinner found that most tests ended with the animal becoming conditioned to push the button, and want food, and if they did not get food, they would continue to push the button even when shocked, for the purpose of the reward. The idea is that if the button always gave food, it would not be a decision to push the button, therefore; there needed to be another consequence in order to make the food desirable. Incidentally, Skinner found that this worked on humans as well.
Let’s take lottery machines for example, they are built to be stacked against you, and to take your money. There is very little chance of you actually getting anything back, and yet if you asked someone if they would want to work 10 hours for 100 dollars, or gamble for 10 hours for 100 dollars, they would probably choose gamble. This is because slot machines condition it’s players to keep actively making the decision to input money, because of the desire for the million dollar win. Now to get to my point…

Consortium Chests Are Skinner Boxes
They use conditioning to profit off of the active decisions from players to keep opening the chests in an attempt to promise much, yet in reality give away very little. People who want a certain skin from the box may open a box anyway, to help out AreaNet financially, and then get nothing or very little in return; even when most skins can be bought relatively cheaply, with a 100% drop rate straight from your local Trading Post. The chests were made to draw you in, to preform a repetitive action and condition rewards into you, to make you buy even more. This is not different from any casino, and it is not different from lottery tickets.

Notice How Every Special Item is in the Chest Now?
AreaNet saw that the minipets and the costumes were pretty popular among players. They were easily bought with no gambling involved. They even gave the minis away in a three pack, and if you combined them all you would get a special minipet! That is the way you sell items at the gem store, good job on that AreaNet. However, the game has changed this time around, if you are not the type to buy from the Trading Post, all new items are only available through the chests. They saw how many keys we bought last time for the halloween black lion chests, and they made a massive profit. They saw this and most likely decided that it was more profitable to go for a gambling aspect for event items, rather than give them away in a forward manner. They removed the keys this time around, but the price is almost the same for the chests anyway; and if they thought we bought black lion chests from the gem store then they are insane.

So in fact; AreaNet has taken up a predatory business practice by using psychological conditioning I.E skinner box mechanics to entice players to create revenue for them through massive profit loss for the player and minimum loss for AreaNet. By moving items from direct market buy to the chests, they have maximized the box’s potential for profit.

In short, I love ArenaNet’s games, but right now they are going down a path that I cannot forgive and will not accept.

Remember

  • This is just a forum warning about chests and their mechanics, this is my two cents on the topic; you could think differently and that is totally fine.
  • If you want to buy the chests go for it, I am not stopping you and you have the choice to make yourself.

Thank you for reading this post. Please reply so that the post does not get lost.

Patch Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: arrownin.3128

arrownin.3128

Hello everyone, arrownin here again. This time it’s on a different subject, but still relates to my earlier post about communication. It’s two words.

Patch Notes

Many of you are aware that ArenaNet does not release any information on patch notes until the day the patch launches. While I do not want to call them out, or say I know better (because I’m no game developer and have no reason to talk about issues relating to game developing) instead, I would like to suggest something that is common practice in other mmorpgs, and for good reason. Patch notes. I don’t mean patch notes on the day of them going live, I mean patch notes a week in advance. Players should be informed about upcoming patches, not just the details and the hints and the secret whispers. To me, keeping information about a game under-wraps as they do presently, is very annoying. It is like a bunch of school girls gossiping about you across the room at class; you’re interested in what they’re talking about, but in the end it just becomes annoying because you won’t get any information out of them. Here are a few points why patch notes should be in the future, patch notes that are released weeks before release.

  • Professional players need to know specific stat changes and upcoming changes in order to know what to do next; this is essential to esports, LoL does it and it works.
  • Feedback can be given before it’s too late. An overpowered change or a horrible concept could be criticized and discussed which allows the developers to know what players want/need.
  • Not knowing what changes are coming can create a sense of worry and stress within classes, and can cause outcries that are just, not needed. I.E: Thieves back stabs, Warrior’s 100 blades so on so on…

Another thing that would improve these frustrating surprise patches would be to stick to a date, stick to a time, release on schedule. Be specific about times. Many players have other things to do, patches are very important, but if we do not know when to create free time for the release of said patch, it becomes a chore to wait.

In the end, this is just an example of a failure to communicate critical information about the product. With such a dedicating genre as an mmorpg information is not an optional feature to players, they expect to know what is going on. Rightfully so. Yes gamer entitlement blah blah blah; I like to know what will change and when in my mmos, does that make me entitled? Probably.

Other than communication, Anet does very well, this is just a subject that they have failed in, and I hope they focus more on it for the future.

^^^^What? Your eyes can’t see, you didn’t see the stats on the new gear. You did not understand the implications of the new gear on how it would become an exclusionary wall to game content for ppl who don’t have it?

They reason they are silent is because they want to see if they made a big mistake and are trying to access the situation. They are like bad swimmers trying to keep up with big brother crossing the lake and are becoming exhausted before the half way point.

Its simple, will they lose more if they do or if they don’t. IMO, they will lose far more if they do. Why? WOW is a better pve game, no debate there. Its probably a better pvp game atm IMO because scs are better that GW2s WVW. Why? Because in WOW you are not instagibbed by any class in pvp.

Behave accordingly and vote with your wallet.

You cannot really vote with your wallet if you already bought the game. Also “better” is subjective, its not fact. I personally do not like WoW at all, so the pve cant be the best for everyone right? Also I did open my eyes, I see that descended is better, but I need actual data, as in I need to see how it does live. Is it super rare? Is it actually worth it? Is there a limit to how much you can get? Do the stats matter that much? Yes its better but how much does that count? I need to experience the in game before I can make a judgement. Right now I don’t like the idea, but maybe my view will change when I see it live? Don’t make statements when it doesn’t exist live yet.

Maybe you can communicate the problem with power creep.

The problem is, that we do not know what the final product will be. There is no way to really for sure tell us what the stats will be, so all we are doing is guessing. We have no idea what the ascended armor will do, or what they can change in these days.

Communicate unto the other person that which you would want him to communicate unto you if your positions were reversed.
— Aaron Goldman

This is a strong quote that rings sound within the Guild Wars 2 player base. Not the forums, not the PvPers, not the PvEers, not the hard-cores, not the casuals, but all. Communication between developers and players is needed in any game that takes dedication, time, and effort; in other words we need to know what is going on so we do not feel like we are in the dark whilst spending hundreds of hours in game. The secrecy and SURPRISE! feel that patches give are not examples of good communication.

  • I feel most of us would prefer to know the specifics before the patch goes live.
  • I feel most of us would probably like stats and technical information on patches.
  • I defiantly feel most of us wouldn’t mind spoiling a bit of content by having test servers to ensure content is not buggy.
  • I know ArenaNet wants to develop the best mmorpg of all time. I’m sure all of us wouldn’t mind if that happened.
  • I feel the ascended gear update is an example of miscommunication, combined with fear of retracting on their promises of no gear treadmills.
  • I feel most of us would like content to be enriched rather than expanded.
  • I feel that we’d all like fun dungeons with great loot.
  • I feel we’d like PvP to become an esport so we could talk about tournaments and how cool they are.
  • I feel like most PvE’rs would like challenging yet fair content to combat against for epic drops.
  • I feel like I’ve talked too much.

Communication, Clarity, Transparency. We need these in order to stop guessing. Humans have a nasty habit of worrying too much when they guess about things. Humans also have a nasty habit of complaining vocally when they have little information. Humans tend to flock together around a problem that they don’t understand yet, so that they can worry together; misery loves company. Test servers available to players would really help with this problem. Clarity instead of secrecy in the minor details in terms of stats and numbers would help in esports and in player morale. ArenaNet, I know you have a ton on your plate, and the plate is getting bigger, but here is a small list of how test servers would help you.

Test Server Benefits

  • Test server footage is very popular on YouTube, raising hype and drawing new players into the game.
  • Test servers find bugs, exploits, glitches, and so on that number crunching cannot.
  • Test servers ensure the patch has gone through “quality control” by the players, and that usually makes all of us happier.
  • Test servers address balancing issues and fix them before they can go live.
  • Test servers are just plain cool.

I don’t know if any developers read this, but if you do read this; I have this to say:
I love your company, I love your team, I love your game and I love the franchise. It is an amazing feat of art, programming, and creativity packed into one. It is everything I loved about Guild Wars. I grew up with your games, in a sense, they made me who I am today, and I thank you for that. If any of you would like to just talk or discuss anything it would be amazing if you’d private message me, but that’s just me being silly asking that. In any case. Communication is key, but the way you communicate is even more important.

Turret trait idea!

Here’s my idea for a trait…
Spider Augmentation: Turrets now follow you using spider like robotic legs.

Turret Thrusters: Turrets now thrust upwards, avoiding all attacks for 1.5 sec whenever you dodge.

Corrosive Poison Cloud, it seems like a cool skill, but I have never seen it used! Does anyone use this thing?

“Death shroud is still good, but not a panacea. We do not feel that, “Oh, it doesn’t matter, they have Death Shroud!” So please don’t think that.”
- Johnathan Sharp

I’m glad that he took the time to say this, because I know a lot of us Necros including myself thought that ArenaNet just assumed we didn’t understand DS yet. Thanks John for the relief!

Imagine this, these adorable Quaggans as a plushie, you squeeze them and their voices play the line that they say. Imagine the money Anet would make! Repeatedly throws dollar bills at Guild Wars 2 poster.

They still have bugs reported in BWE1. Clearly if that is the case, they haven’t done enough.

Engineers aren’t underpowered, but they have few viable specs.

Its real easy to say ‘engineers are fine l2p’ while you use a grenade kit build with elixirs. But outside that? Its all pretty weak.

Its a bit like the communist countries of old. There is no middle class. Either you have great damage/utility or none.

I actually don’t really like grenades. I get around fine using elixir gun, elixir R, and bomb kit, but then again I am playing as more of a support role.

Hurricane Sandy Interrupts our Halloween Event [Merged]

Hello all, and a special hello to you folks under the harsh conditions of this terrible storm that the US has. ArenaNet has decided not to extend the Halloween 4th act, or the Halloween events; even with this hurricane wrecking havoc on our coasts. However I have to say that I agree with this choice. In the end, no matter how bad a real world situation is for a certain area of the world, it should not affect anything in game. No storm in Britain should delay Wintersday, no tsunami in Hawaii should stop Mad King’s Day. They need to keep to their schedule so that it is fair, otherwise Anet would be playing favorites, which is never good for a developer. I believe that the choice to keep the event the way it is was a mature one that is fair, it sucks, but I think that there are more pressing matters to attend to. If you missed this event because of the hurricane, maybe you could find a way to help out in the community so that the damage is lessened. Try to 100% the map of the real world, finish up hearts by cleaning up derbies and rebuilding houses, try donating some money to help out the ones in need, I’m sure that you’ll get a great bit of mail in the end.

Thanks for reading this post, best of luck.

True as that may be, we are kinda underpowered I think. There is just so much potential left in the engineer class, but Anet does not make much bug fixes…

They’ve made tons of bug fixes, it just is patched often instead of once a month. Hell, WoW still has bugs for warrior that haven’t been fixed since launch. Heroic Leap I think it was. Engineers aren’t underpowered, and I know you’ve heard this before, but a bunker engineer is almost invincible when played right. You don’t have to listen because I’m sure you’re just upset and trying to feel better on forums, but the engineer requires understanding of combos to play properly, and when done the engineer is something to be feared. Look up the different combo fields they have, and build a setup to your liking.

Let's face it.

I think that engineers are finished, they’re just built around combo fields and combo finishers. There are bugs, but I don’t think we can complain when Necro’s Jagged Horrors can be killed in PvP to rally enemies. Jagged Horrors are a 5 point traited skill

Halloween "Legendaries" Special Effects?

Hey guys, just a quick question. I was wondering if the Halloween exotics had special effects. As in, does the Arachnophobia shoot spiderwebs, does The Crossing leave a trail of light?

I’d like to say that I actually hated my Engineer for awhile. The class felt stupid, none of the kits felt great, and they did not seem to do much of anything. Using the flamethrower as a primary weapon, using grenades as a primary weapon, trying to use just one kit did pretty much nothing for me. It felt as if I was the underpowered class and I did not have any attention put into during development, and that it was simply a class to make tf2 fans happy. HOWEVER… During this Halloween event I had made another Engineer, giving it another shot. This time I had a lot more knowledge of the game, and understood the power of finishers and combo fields. After revealing that The Engineer is a profession based around creating combo fields and utilizing our finishers the class became absolutely astounding. The class I found switching between kits, making different fields, using blast finishers, in a constant dance between different gadgets. I feel like a ton of players are scared off or disappointed by this class because combo fields and finishers were not well explained in game, and thus are kind of ignored. With a class based around these combos so deeply, it was the reason why when I started off on an engie, that I did not like it. Now that I’ve been playing for a few months the class opened up to me, and now it does not suck. The rifle is no longer stupid to me, the shield and pistol are no longer weak. The engineer no longer sucks.

Arachnophobia Entropy

I’ve got a bit of a question for all of you; that question being something that I’m sure a lot of you already have an answer to. Now that the Mad King dungeon is gone, do you think that the Arachnophobia will rise back up to the previous prices of 100 gold or close to it? I believe that it will, which is why I bought it yesterday for about 40 gold. Post your thoughts, I’m sure we can make an interesting thread about how it may or may not rise to 100+g. Post away!
