Can you guys add in a number on top of utility skills and normal skills to show how each skill and utility is affected by stats?

I’d like this to be sort of like how in League of Legends you can see the amount of extra damage you do with a skill, depending on how much of a stat you have.

An example would be if you had a Greatsword with 50 power, and had a skill that had a 1 to 1 damage scaling with power, with base damage of 100, it would look like this ideally.

Investment Banking Slash!: Attack your foe with the power of economics! 100+(50) Damage Upon Hit. Power Scaling

(This would be with no extra Power from traits or armor)

There will be no mounts coming with the Flame and Frost story arc.

Also, to address further speculation we’ve seen about the concept art for Flame and Frost (and what it may portend): there will be no Cantha and no dragons coming with the Flame and Frost story arc, either.

Thank you.

Ability to Change Item Stats!

in Suggestions

Posted by: arrownin.3128

arrownin.3128

This will probably get moved to the suggestions forum, but I really wanted this to gain some views from the most popular forum first. Mostly because I believe this idea could be game changing, and in a good way. My idea?

Interchangeable Weapon/Armor Stats

Concept: The idea is that players can right-click their armors or weapons and open up a menu, in said menu, the options for applying stats will appear, the stats will be limited to the item’s rarity +(exotic will have exotic stats, rare will have rare stats etc)_. The menu would be similar to the way the Makeover Kit works, just instead of cosmetic, it would be statistical. There should be a cost for doing this I believe, however since I’m not an economist, I don’t want to get into that.

Is this a good idea?: In my personal opinion, yes, yes it is. This allows for players to continue using the armor, or weapons that they enjoy, while also having the freedom to switch between build types and maintain the optimal stats for the build they have created. As of now, players need to acquire several sets of gear to appeal to vastly different builds, which can cost a ton of gold, which can discourage the idea of experimenting with new stats and builds. Having all these weapons and armors also makes it hard to store them, which means full banks, full inventories, and overall annoyance when it comes to management of both. It can also allow for players to feel like weapons are really personal, they can make them their own weapon in a sense, and not feel like it’s not the best one for the situation.

Is this a bad idea?: Maybe. Players can already change their weapons cosmetically through transmutation stones, so this system is, in a way, already in the game. However it is not as good as it could be. This could affect the economy negatively, since it would remove the gold sink of buying weapons and armor just for builds, but as I said I can’t speak for money matters. It could also be easy to exploit, if the changeable stats were not limited to certain areas etc.

General Suggestions for Implementation:

  • Limit the ability to change stats to cities, such as Lion’s Arch, The Grove, etc.
  • Make the cost low, to encourage players to experiment with new ideas a lot. Perhaps make the cost to change stats 5 skill points, or 20 silver.
  • Make an “Are You Sure?” button. A pop-up that asks if you’re sure that the changes you’ve made are satisfactory, so that accidental clicks don’t screw up the change.
  • Give background information on each stat, and what it does while in the weapon change menu. This will let new players get an idea of what each attribute means so that they can better understand how to add the points in.

Stealth is Just a Bubble

With no way to really detect people in stealth, besides swinging randomly, stealth really is just an invincibility bubble, rather than a stealth mechanic. There’s no real risk or sneakiness to being in stealth, since you can just reactivate it 3 seconds later. I think we really need to remove the aspect of stealth being just another Shadow Form, and making it an actual stealth mechanic.

Not trolling here, I just really want to get back into the game. I just have no interest in anything that the game has to offer, which saddens me because I absolutely love the world of Tyria, I just am bored of the game, from the dungeons, to the PvP, to the market, to WvWvW. Everything just got stale so quickly and felt so restricted.

But this post isn’t just for me, it’s for a lot of people out there. A ton of people who are looking for a reason to get back into the game, so let’s all give them one. I’ll put the best reasons within this post on a list, along with the poster’s name to give them credit.

Guild wars 2 from a Pvper perspective.

arrownin.3128

I’m trying to learn Dota 2 right now, and it really highlights how important it is for a PvP game to be separated from PvE. Any game with a PvE mode, will always treat PvP as an afterthought. Anet simply lacks the developer manpower to focus on a game mode designed for a niche playerbase.

Dota 2’s gameplay is crap compared to GW2’s, but the game is much better done otherwise.

What What What What, you just lost ALL your credibilty, your clearly still a beginner when it comes to Dota2 but are quick to judge, it’s like someone playing hon for 2 games and saying this has best pvp ever.

I am very new to the game (less than 3 hours experience), but click-to-move is a bush league game mechanic (when coming from GW2). The keyboard movement of GW2 with a focus on dodging is much more demanding and rewarding.

Once MMOs get rid of target lock (and add aiming reticles) and combine it with the movement-based combat of GW2, we’ll have reached the pinnacle of skill-based MMO combat.

That’s all your opinion and contains no actual fact. I like the system of movement for Dota and LoL just as much as I like GW2’s movement.

Fix the delay already

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

arrownin.3128

It’s not lag.

It’s the amount of time that it takes between the key/button pressed and the action being preformed. As the animation takes time up before the action is preformed, the action is not instantaneous, thus feel like a delay. This is kind of annoying, but then again you can learn to deal with it.

This is a similar factor to consider in games like DOTA and LoL, as the attack animations take time to preform, and require each animation to be learned to time last hits properly.

Well, yes. The key on the action bar lights up instantly, but the ability goes off a bit later. That’s basically what I’m saying and the game would feel a lot more fluid if it were more slick.

By the way, in LoL and Dota the “delay” on attacks is determined by your attack speed because the time between the click and the 1st attack is the same as the time between 1st and 2nd attack :P. Everything else that doesn’t have a cast bar is instant – the way it should be.

Lol well I meant to say that the attack speed is different for each champion at the start of each game, so that each hero has a “delay” on their attacks, until attack speed is boosted. Which is KIIINDA how quickness works with GW2 hrmrrrrmrmmrmmm

I heard about standing desks, which basically are set ups that make it so you can use your computer while standing up. I tried this out using a makeshift setup, and I have to say that it is awesome.

You really feel like you got a good workout after about 5 hours or even 3 hours of computer usage, I feel like I can think better while standing up, and that my gameplay has improved. I’d recommend that you guys that hate working out, but love gaming look into this, it’s got it’s ups and downs, but I think it’s worth it.

On topic: I feel GW1 within GW2. Faintly, but it is there. Sadly, it feels Like today’s ANet is totally different ANet from the GW1 heyday. Shame…

Who are the GW1 devs who are still there? Jon Peters?

Basically no one, if that wasn’t blatantly apparent.

Well, I don’t know which devs are still here and which aren’t, but I’m not saying this game is bad, I’m just saying it’s not really “guild wars-y”

Granted, we only loved it due to speed clear team builds. If the dev wants to make it like doing DoA with a “balanced” team build, no thanks.

As for the “if you wipe, it’s game over” concept that GW1 used for instances, I ’d like to see that return for GW2 dungeons.

That would be kind of annoying with the 1 shot mechanics and the Z axis being in the game though, a fall could make it so that a player is dead for good :X

I pretty much agree with every post here, the skill caps, the hundreds of skills you could use, made the game have strategy a bit like chess (what skills counter this part of the game etc), made playing the game fun, the builds you could make the dual classes you could play, honestly if Guildwars 1 populations were like GW2 i’m probably just go back..

They really should have said " We took everything WoW players loved about WoW" but that wouldn’t go down well here in my opinion..as not much came over in my opinion..

Back in GW1, there was no trinity really, any class could heal, some were just better at it than others, you could have Necro healers, Ritualist healers, Paragon healers, Ranger healers, every class COULD heal. So the whole “getting rid of trinity” thing just seems kinda redundant since GW1 never really did have a set trinity system.

That was more a side-effect of the dual profession system, not truly a characteristic of every profession. Additionally, only a few profession set-ups, mostly warriors but a couple others, could tank. It certainly was still a trinity, albeit a fun one due to the attribute re-allocation and vast list of skills.

Well to be honest in any RPG one build will be tanky, and one will be damage-y, and one will be heal-y, that’s just how it is. And actually, I could probably say that every class in the game could tank, or damage, or etc, it just depended on which build you were running, When I was talking about the professions able to heal yeah I was talking about Dual Professions, but I feel like having this system created a unique feel for each mix, like a Warrior/Monk is much different than a Necro/Monk, each profession using specific abilities from the Monk tree, or etc to be able to be effective in combat.

So in an interview that I’m too lazy to find, a developer said that he wanted to make more dungeons like Domain of Anguish (DoA) for Guild Wars 2.

I personally didn’t even like that place seeing as there was way too many enemies, the enemies themselves usually killed me in horrible ways, and if you died, well you’re kinda screwed.

The only time I went was with heroes that had the right builds or with people that had the right builds to do speedruns and such.

So basically, since GW2’s dungeons looked to DoA as a rolemodel, did anyone actually like this place?

I wanted to toss in something, because I think a lot of GW1 vets have commented on how much we miss the Deck Building aspect of GW1.

Ahhh I couldn’t really find a word for it, but deck building really nails it, thank you friend. But yeah, deck building is really great in RPGs, it’s like a card game, you build up your deck, and make it to your playstyle, or for the specific situation, and no matter how haphazard the outcome is, it is still YOURS. I think that a big part of GW1’s appeal for me was lost in GW2, since we can choose between only a few cookie cutter skills for one profession, which is really a letdown.
I think that they tried too hard to lose the trinity in this game, but I think they only really accomplished in making an action RPG, take a look at vindictus for example, same system really, kinda, well you get the point.
Back in GW1, there was no trinity really, any class could heal, some were just better at it than others, you could have Necro healers, Ritualist healers, Paragon healers, Ranger healers, every class COULD heal. After playing Dark Souls for the PC after many days of horror and trials trying to get Windows Live to work, I kind of realised something. The game was very skill based, yet revolved around how you built your character, however the way you built your character was not limiting, if you were a armor tank, you could always throw a few points into intelligence and cast a fireball in case you were in trouble, or if you were a mage type, you could always put a few points into dexterity to be able to use daggers well.

The way that “classes” could be intertwined and flow together seemlessly and compliment eachother kind of helped me figure out why I am not really into Guild Wars 2 as much as I was into Guild Wars 1. After playing Dark Souls a bit more, I could see more and more reasons why I liked GW1 for years, and got bored of GW2 in about 6 months.

Mind you, GW2 is an amazing game, the concepts and gameplay are all great, and the art and design of it all is breathtaking, and $60.00 for 6 months of entertainment is a godly deal. It is just that the game has walked away from so many of the concepts from the original that I loved.

The ability to have classes intermingle, have a Warrior/Monk, a Elementalist/Assassin, and so on, opening thousands of new builds and playstyles.
Mobs did not respawn in the area once you killed them, allowing for a feel of real progression within an area, and challenges to the player to vanquish all enemies in an entire area.
The attribute points that empowered weapons and skills, and class specific attributes that added flavor to a class, but was purely optional to put points into.
The class specific armors that were very unique and gave a distinct look to each type of profession within the game, you could tell which profession was which from across the map.

I guess I’m typing this because after playing Dark Souls, I realise now why I have no desire to play GW2 anymore, it just doesn’t have anything to offer me anymore. The original mechanics of GW1 seem to be thrown out, leaving only strange interpretations of what was. As of now, Dark Souls seems to be my online, and offline game of choice, and the funny thing is, I don’t really have any wanting to come back to GW2. I hope that one day I will come back though, because I love the story and the lore of the world, and I really want to enjoy it again.

Hello Warriors, I can call you guys that now, because you actually are Warriors now. War, Wammo, W/. You all can abide by these horribly hilarious titles that don’t really mean Warrior but are shorter names made by GW1 players, so instead I’ll just call you all Snowflake.

Welcome to the Age of True Warriors.
This is pretty much a repeat of history. In Guild Wars 1, most players started off as Warriors at launch, because well, Warriors are cool. After awhile though, many of the other classes learned how their classes worked, and over time Warriors started to become one of the less played classes. Being a Warrior myself since GW1 launch, I pretty much saw this go down. Basically, Warriors needed to master their tools of the trade to get better.
We already have all the power we need, now its time to just get down to business and become a master of weapons. It’s like how in those kungkittenmovies, the hero reaches maximum strength, and through training and dedication, he unlocks his hidden potential. That’s the stage most Warriors I’ve seen are at. And this is the stage that most Warriors quit at.

Are you prepared to die over and over to other classes, in an attempt to learn how to bash each of their faces in?

Are you willing to learn every weapon, and learn every strength and weakness of each in order to use them appropriately in battle?

Can you unleash primeval rage that echos to the wars of the past, calling upon strength that no other profession can even dream about?

Will you reach the point in which all foes fall before you, a point in which you can truly call yourself, Warrior?

I hope so. Because I do not play Warriors anymore, as I had my fill of being the strong tough guy back in Guild Wars 1. In GW2 I picked up the Ranger, Guardian, Engineer, and the Elementalist, but I have played every class. So do me proud Warriors, become something amazing.

We WANT sPvP to be Great!!

in PvP

Posted by: arrownin.3128

arrownin.3128

The PvP player base desperately desires for sPvP systems and combat to be amazing. We want systems in place that reward skill, teamwork, and deep understanding of game mechanics.

There are many systems in place in other games that can appeal to these desires and truly create a PvP community and environment that will make this game succeed in eSports, tournaments, and in simple hot join matches.

There are so many options available to you developers, that it is just a matter of picking and choosing one, or maybe making one of your own and creating a spin on it.

The main point is that there needs to be a few key components to make a PvP game great. Spectator mode is in the making, Tournaments are in place, PvP Systems are in their infancy, and Rewards are there, but seem a bit underwhelming.

If we look how these other games handle rewards, they generally either are based around a ranking system, or an unlocking system, or both. Notice how in almost all of these games, that getting the points to rank up is acquired through winning, and loss in a game results in losing these points. As of now, we have a leveling system that rewards pretty much everything you do in PvP, however you lose no ranking if you lose a game.

Now, I already can see how this wouldn’t work in matchmaking, because hot-join is a randomized system that can match even the best players with the worst, which can result in unfair loss of points. But in Tournaments, why not create a separate PvP level that can be lost? This would create a rudimentary ranking system that can be improved on later.

In terms of rewards, why do we get the same stuff as PvE players? I think that there needs to be PvP rewards, not PvE rewards. What I mean by this is, that there needs to be rewards that can visually show an experienced veteran just through the armor or weapons. Like how in Age of Conan a player can be seen in PvP Gear and be known as a awesome PvPer. Or how a gold framed player in league of legends can generally be known as experienced. There needs to be a unique PvP visual that can represent awesome players.

Although these might not be the only problems that sPvP has, these are the ones that bother me the most. Hopefully the development team can take some of this information and put it to good use. The sPvP in this game is great, but there is no real hook to keep players playing. I really want this game to succeed in terms of PvP, and I want there to be thousands of PvPers rushing to the battle.

sPvP Is Inconvienient. Let's Fix It.

-There’s no rank based matchmaking system (That works – “Join now” is a quick way to get into a 1 on 1,), I routinely leave games where everyone else is less than rank 10; its not fun to roflstomp new players, and its absolutely useless to try to test new specs against players who don’t know what they’re doing.
- There’s no way to test specs outside hotjoin. If a new spec doesn’t pan out the way I thought it would, I don’t want to spend 10 minutes being a free kill.
- Zerglings. I don’t enjoy fighting Zerg to lose glory farming teams. I like to win, but I’m not going to spend 10 minutes running cap point to cap point to “win” with 80 points so I can watch the “losing” team exit with 200-300.

Doesnt that just show a flaw in the system though?

I consider sPvP’ers seperate from PvE’ers because of my experiences from GW1, my bad. I forgot about the other crowd GW2 pulled in. Though I will admit it was negative of me, I still hold to the opinion that a lot of this guy’s concerns are superficial. PvE incentive would be acceptable to get community exposure going but most PvE’ers wont stay. They will get their PvE incentive reward and leave.

In GW1 there are direct rewards to PvE that are gained from PvP. Which include unlocking skills, Zaishen Keys, unlocking pets for rangers, and gaining money from winning tournaments, and the Zaishen quests were implemented later.

Menus are unintuitive and glitchy.

-Myself nor any of my guild mates have ever encountered anything like this, perhaps get a real computer?

Rewards lack PvE value.

-Why would there be PvE value from sPvP items? Who cares? I dont come to sPvP to kittening PvE, gtfo care bear.

There is a lack of a in depth progression system.

-You clearly dont care about the PvP quality, this is also apparent from your 2nd bullet point. Who the F cares about meaningless, superficial crap like this? You want some gay little icon or some crap to represent something about your progression? Go complete the world map, since its not PvP you are caring about

Leavers are still a major problem.

When will “leavers” not be a problem? Do you actually think some short term punishment for leaving will make people not want to leave? You want anet to slap people on the wrist and put them in time out? QQ

Tournaments aren’t in the game yet.

They are.

Paid sPvP matches are underwhelming.

Any proof of your major paid tourney accomplishments? Just wondering since your opinion seems to be PvE centric so far, which has nothing to do with the quality of the PvP itself.

There is no spectator mode.

Go watch a stream.

There is a lack of modes.

Yup.

TL;DR

This guy cares too much about PvE, superficial representations of accomplishments, unimportant menial features that can easily be supplemented by simple google searches. He’s not a sPvP’er.

I agree with a lot of what you’re saying, but please try to be friendly instead of being so hostile.

There are some things in the OP that should be implemented. For example, spectator client is in the works, but streams are not a replacement for that. Leavers are a problem, but instead of saying there’s no way to fix it, maybe with a discussion a solution can be thought up to at least put a dent into it.

Also, providing PvE incentives for competing in sPvP can be a great gateway for newer players to start playing sPvP. There’s a lot of people that just do dungeons, WvW, etc. When a rating system comes out I think it would be a great idea to give some incentives for PvEers to try out sPvP again.

Lastly, Be Friendly! There’s no reason to split the community into sPvPers vs non-sPvPers. We all play this game because we love guild wars 2! Embrace it.

Thank you I just want to bring more people from PvE into PvP and to do that you need to provide some incentive.
