There is! The metabattle build isn’t quite as updated as I wish it was because I’ve been stupid busy recently, and I’m the primary one updating it. The build that was up there was basically my build, I need to update it with the other build that works right now which is death/blood/soul reaping, and you take unholy sanctuary instead of death nova, staff instead of axe/dagger. Soul Marks, VP, and FitG are taken from SR, it is a way more defensive build than the one on metabattle.

The minions do a fairly good job of eating conditions, they just don’t deliver them very well.

They do eat them every 10 seconds, with the timer starting when they are summoned. It seems to be about a 1200 range you need to be from them and the timer is independent for each summon.

I just wish they got delivered better. At least they still explode and do decent damage.

Yeah, I wish there was a better option besides death nova though.

I mostly just modded the metabattle build a bit, the build itself is pretty fun. Minion master seems to be about the same as it was before, I seem to have an easier time with conditions with it since the patch but maybe it’s just me. Hope you enjoy the video, be nice I’m still learning, just a student in the art of the Necro :P

Havent had too much trouble with Elementalist to be honest. With the new fire stacking Condi Ele its fun, because you can just plague signet and give them like 8 stacks of fire.

Just talking about some strategies and match-ups to do with Condi Necro. Ive been using the build for quite awhile, and the patch has been pretty awesome so far. How do guys rate condi this patch? Who are our best match-ups and who are our worst? I feel like we have a pretty good time against Engie, Ele, and Guard. I have a hard time against Mesmer, MM Necro, and sometimes thief depending on how good they are at stealth and timing blinds.

I was actually thinking a thief would be interesting! Running in the mix of all those zombies a thief would be rather slippery. To boot they would have 4 tanky necros to ress him/her.

I always wonder how will a full MM team do in dungeons :p

Hmm probably not very well knowing the AI on our minions. However maybe on some bosses it would work? Just as long as the boss doesn’t have any strong AoE or teleportation moves or retaliation or… eh maybe minions wouldn’t be that great…

Last night I had an awesome time, probably one of the most awesome times I’ve ever had in PvP. Maybe it was kinda cheesy, but all in all it was in good fun. I saw in map chat that two Necros were looking to make a full MM team, and jumped on the opportunity! Shoutouts to those in the video with me, hopefully some of you check the forums, told you I was recording it!

i think you said it all when u said the build was pretty kittenty and something that bad couldn’t be allowed.

i used it for lulz when it’s to dangerous to go melee like big zergs in WvW or dungeons
it doesn’t work in sPvP even if u trait for initiative! at it’s prime is a support build that helps real builds to take down a target with 7k unload spam

ur nothing more than a little anoyence

Idk I used it in ranked pvp for about a week and got top score. I think you just have to be smart when you spam and when you dont. I agree with you that it functions mostly like a support build though.

I get paired with rank 10s, rank 20s, rank 5s. Even if they’re the best player ever, they still don’t know the intricacies of PvP, how and when to ress, how and when to finish, how and when to dodge or stun or etc. They might be good at PvP, but they are nowhere near as experienced, which really makes the matches boring, and unsatisfying to play.

Which I might add, experienced PvPers would absolutely LOVE, if not for the fact us rank 50+ have to fight these new rank 1 players every single game.

I like how everyone agree on this forum that ranks mean nothing and are never a proof of skill, and when it comes to QQ-ing about MMR, it’s the very first argument you have….

" OMG I’m 50+ and I keep being paired with 10s… Fix MMR PLZ"

While rank might not be a proof of skill, its proof of time spent in PvP. Time spent in most cases translates into skill, or at least an understanding of. I believe rank means something. Also don’t generalize the entire forum’s population in your argument and say “everyone” agrees on something, because that’s just untrue.

I start my argument with that because it is proof that the MMR is pairing inexperienced people with experienced people. I do not enjoy playing with inexperienced people. Furthermore, I’ve been trying to find out how much water your argument holds, but I can’t seem to find you on the leaderboards for solo queue or team pvp, on EU or NA servers. Been using this:

Well, unless we can see the numbers behind the MMR system, we can’t say, if the system works fine or not.

If almost everyone around you is inexperienced, you probably just overrate yourself, and you are matched perfectly fine.

This does not mean, that the system does not have problem, it does!
Personally I think the main problem is, that new players start somewhere in the middle, and since their rating is not yet settled, it fluctuates a lot. This means, that if they are extremely lucky the first few matches, they can end up in the top 10, on the other hand they can get extremely unlucky, get some 4v5s and end up at the bottom, having a hard time climbing up again.

This brings me to the next point: 4v5: Too many games are decided that way. Yes, we can’t force people to stay and play, but we can make sure, that at least everyone is there at the start: We need a ready check prior entering the match!^

Some very basic tipps for the soloq:

  • Use keybinds^
  • Set good targets, don’t start the fight trying to kill the bunker guard.
  • look at the minimap and try to count enemys, with that information you know where to support your teammates or if their backpoint is free
  • look at the teammates health bars
  • Ping on the minimap f.e. prior the temple buffs are spawning to signal teammates to go there
  • If there is time, use the teamchat to inform your teammates about the upcoming buff (11:30 upper, 8:30 both, 5:30 upper, 2:30 both again)
  • The orb + skyhammer cannon are important. If you don’t have an orb carrier at least deny them to take the orb.
  • There is no shame on playing something cheesy on skyhammer
  • Copy the build from a top players. Yes, once you are good enough, you should individualize the build, or take something uncommon, but most of the time people just run kittening builds, and think they are good. (F.e. Offguards with staff, Bunker with shield on Foefire or power ranger)

I highly doubt that I am overrating myself. I have a lot of experience in PvP in fact in my entire time playing since beta the thing I have done the most in my play time has been PvP. I create my own builds if I have understanding of the meta and the current state of balancing, and if I don’t understand the class at the time I copy builds. I don’t need advice, I already know what you’re talking about, and frankly I find it a bit grating that you are telling me parts of PvP that most experienced players already know about, even if you are offering the information in good heart.

I don’t think that 4v5 are the problem. If a 4v5 happens usually the team with 4 lets the team with 5 win, it’s not frustrating, and it’s over fast. Even if your team fights back, it’s usually over fast. The problem is that I’ve been REGULARLY paired with brand spankin new players that have JUST joined PvP. I’d say 30% of all my games include someone that has had less than an hour of experience in PvP. I do not want to go against rank 0-10 players, or players with 0 knowledge of PvP anymore. Nor do I want to team with them. It’s unfair to me, and to all of the PvP players of Guild Wars 2.

How would high level Fractals runners respond if someone who didn’t know anything about fractals joined their top tier group and messed up their run, without the option to leave the group or risk getting a 24 hour ban from Fractals? Imagine if these PvE’rs had this happen at a consistent basis? There would be an outcry. There’s a reason why there is agony and agony resist gear. To set a bar to have new players have to learn the ropes before joining the elite, and what bar do we have in PvP? None.

I don’t know how the MMR system works. All I do know is that ever since the new influx of PvPers came about from the April 15th patch, I have been having no little to no fun in tPvP. Maybe some of you share my sentiments.

Reasons why I am not having fun is primarily due to the matchmaking system. It just feels wrong. I feel like I’m going back to rank 1 whenever I go into a tournament match. I get paired with rank 10s, rank 20s, rank 5s. Even if they’re the best player ever, they still don’t know the intricacies of PvP, how and when to ress, how and when to finish, how and when to dodge or stun or etc. They might be good at PvP, but they are nowhere near as experienced, which really makes the matches boring, and unsatisfying to play. To compare to another game, League of Legends, sure you’d get a bad player every now and again, but if you got to Silver or Gold league, you would fight against more experienced players more often than not. (Although no matchmaking system is perfect, you’d get the occasional AWFUL player).

I think the reason why new players are joining tPvP can be explained easily. Rewards. Think about it, if you do hotjoin matches, youre limited to how many track chests you unlock, in tournament matches, you dont have a limit. In tPvP you also get the same amount of rank points, (or 200 less) if you lost the match, than you’d get in a hotjoin match win. What reason do new players have to join hotjoin matches to learn? NONE.

Not playing tournament games is the least rewarding thing you can choose in tPvP, even if you’re just learning how to press the F button to finish. It seems the game’s direction is actively driving these new players towards the tournament PvP scene. Which I might add, experienced PvPers would absolutely LOVE, if not for the fact us rank 50+ have to fight these new rank 1 players every single game.

And sure, we could actively teach these new players the ins and outs of tPvP, but to do that almost every other game? I personally didn’t come to tPvP to teach people how to play, I came to play in a competitive environment with people that know how to fight.

So suggestions from me: Make ranks 1-30 gain triple or double the rank points from doing hotjoins, and for pete’s sake unlock the chest tracks for hotjoin. Also make a better, REQUIRED tutorial to teach the players where the hotjoin guy is, where the tournament pvp guy is, and the DIFFERENCE between the two. Thanks for the read guys.

I’ve been playing pvp in mmorpgs, and other types of online multiplayer games for most of my life. To be honest, the community here being “toxic” is how it has always been since I first started doing pvp at the start of my gaming about 15 years ago. I don’t really think it harms the community in a negative way that needs to be addressed, I just view it as something that’s always been there.

You kill someone, they might get mad and type something. You get killed, you might get mad. You win/lose, same thing. What people said was never really something you took seriously in a pvp setting in the past.

I honestly haven’t noticed an influx of toxic talk in pvp, it just has stayed the same as it always has. That’s just part of what PvP always has been. Maybe some other people have a different view, but that’s just my two cents.

Honestly, I don’t even care if they aren’t removed. I just want a dev to come up with a reason why Skyhammer is still in arena solo queue. Please explain to me the purpose of leaving in a map that heavily favors unskilled play over competitive play. I have no idea how they could let a map like this into this kind of game type, so please any devs out there, enlighten me.

I personally felt like when I was in PvP before the patch, that I actually was of one of the top players. Because of the gear I unlocked, and my rank that I had attained. Now with people in pvp with their legendaries I just feel like I’m not special at all anymore.

I’d go for Account expansions (Bank/Collectible/Bag slots), then armor skins, then weapon skins, in that order. Bear in mind that weapon skins will require gambling on keys to get them; it’s safer to simply sell the gems for gold and buy the skins off the TP.

Miniatures and costumes are also fun if you’re into those sorts of things.

I’ve always wanted to get a character expansion, also do the bag slots only count per character, or is it account wide if I unlock more slots in a bag?

In short, I took a few months break. Now I’m using D/Warhorn and trying out my old power necro build, and it feels like I am just bringing the team down. If you could, could you post some good necro builds for pvp and pve? I love using minions, and dagger the most, so any build focused around them would be great.

After taking a few months break, I logged onto GW2 again. I noticed for one, that my grinning shield was gone. I had put the skin on a normal shield to use in combat before I had taken the break. Logging back on now, it’s gone. Not sure if I got hacked, or if I got hijacked, or if something simply went wrong with the game, but I’d like to get this back. Coming back to the game, this is a really odd and discouraging thing to have happened.

The biggest fail of this SAB is that it’s too long.

Lesson learned. I get it.

I guess the first one was successful because it was new, innovative and they wanted to get it right. Now when they made the second one, they’re just throw in a bigger team, a bigger budget and demand lengthier contents and say yup, that’s what players want. Like the say, the sequels are always crap until the next fresh reboot.

Smaller team, actually. And the length was my own desire to get as many ideas as I could in there. I spent several months pulling 16 hour days and a couple weeks where I did a couple 36 hour stretches, went home, slept and came back and did it again. No one else wanted me to do that. In fact those sort of crazy hours are discouraged at ArenaNet. I did that because I freeking love what I do and wanted this release to be the best thing ever. Turns out I pushed too hard to get those new mechanics in there and I’m being told here over and over that all that work was wasted and it’s making people miserable. I’ve learned my lesson. Won’t happen again! And for that, my family thanks you!

Aww jeez Josh. You made me log into the forums after being off of them for months. I’m going to college currently to make games, and let me tell you. This month’s patch for SAB was NOT bad. It just needs some tweaking, that’s all. I really love the vertical nature of world 2-2, and I love the dojos, I love the idea of the rapids and jumping and danger, and I love the frost and ice of the snowy level. It’s all very old school, and reminds me of Super Mario 64 and my childhood. This was all designed great, it’s just the numbers that need to be tweaked, and the fact that the infinite coin was released at this time just made people upset about it being unfair etc etc. Cmon man, be proud of what you’ve made, everything has issues and bugs, you make games, you should know that! But even so, this is something that you need to take in pride.

No one is paying 15 a month, so I think what they are doing is perfect. No matter how “underwhelming” it may be its still content, it still bringing things to the game. In my opinion they have added quite a lot of stuff since launch. Anet doesn’t have to add anything if they don’t want to. They got their money up front.

I think everyone has gotten their 60 bucks worth already.

I think people need to settle down and enjoy the game for what it is. Sure there will be things you don’t like but its an MMO. Anet cant please everyone.

One thing you cant take away from them no matter how many PR fumbles they have had is that this game is a great game. Its foundation is what makes it work.

If it wasn’t a great game you wouldn’t have so many complaints about everything. Just goes to show how much the players care about it. Sounds weird but that’s what I believe anyway.

That is a very dangerous aspect to think about. The idea that hey, we already paid our 60 dollars, so the game doesn’t need to improve. I disagree with that entirely. People are buying gems, spending maybe more than what they bought the game for. I know I did. So as a consumer they should be striving to improve, to gain new consumers and to be competitive in the mmorpg genre.

I’ll throw out feature wise, many of the things we’ll be doing feature wise across the first half of 2013 are typically the type of features you’d likely only see in a paid expansion traditionally. We’re really excited about the opportunity to be able to do that for Guild Wars 2, and think there is something really compelling in that experience, which is really the only message we wanted folks to take from all of this. March will of course continue this tradition of free releases, major features, and of course the growth of living story as we expand its role in Gw2.

All of that being said, this is exactly why we try and avoid talking about stuff until it’s ready, if we say something early and it ends up not ending up exactly what people expect, it doesn’t work out for anyone. Saying something like “expansions worth of content” means different things to everyone, and is nearly an impossible goal to meet expectation wise since everything expects something different, which is a big part of why marketing stepped away from that plan very quickly after asking us to use it when speaking to the press/fans.

I imagine it’ll still get quoted until the end of time, but hope that helps explain where it came from, and what to expect. Just to re-iterate the post I made back in January:

“To set expectations accordingly, the January release will be a relatively small release that sets the table for the stories and features we plan to roll out with the Feb/March releases and beyond. Also, there will be no new race, profession, or new region with these larger Feb/March releases. One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible, ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built, and strengthening the core game we’ve provided. In saying this will be an expansions worth of stuff in these releases, we’re talking about the number of new features that will be rolled out across PvE, WvW, and PvP in early 2013, which usually you’d only find in an expansion for a traditional MMORPG.”

Please do not make promises that you do not know you can keep. Being let down after reading a dev say they will do this or that is much, MUCH worse than just not getting anything. I know you guys want to do something along the lines of expansion material, however that might just be a few new areas. I realize that the development process is a long and difficult one, so many things can change.

Be straight-forward with us when you have the information ready, present the actual details and data. Don’t just tease us with what we want to hear, that is completely unfair to us, and unfair to you as well. Just look at what happened with Jon Peter’s on the Ranger forums when he promised major changes with the Ranger.

Hello everyone, in this post, I would actually like to know what YOU all think about a certain topic. Namely to do with the patches that have come in during the last set of months.

Do you think that patches have been encouraging fun, intuitive, and engaging game-play, or do you feel that the patches have been destroying the fun by creating uninteresting mechanics, repetitive unintuitive game-play, balancing factors, and items? To help you think, here is a list of some things that have come with patches throughout Guild Wars 2’s lifetime.

  • Nerfs/Buffs
  • DR
  • Fractals
  • Ascended Gear
  • The Lost Shores
  • Mad King’s Day
  • Wintersday
  • New balancing factors relating to farming, items drops, etc.
  • New balancing towards dungeons
  • New gem store items
  • Bug fixes
  • New sPvP maps
  • New WvWvW mechanics
  • Banning bots
  • Updates to how you play the game, dailies monthlies etc.

Ranger melee pets are dead in 2 nano seconds I agree, and keeping the ranged pets alive is still a chore, but it’s possible. I do agree that Rangers need help in a lot of categories, however in dungeons, since our main builds rely on conditions, we are in a bit of a hard place.

Engineer and necromancer. Idk bout you but i played guild wars 1. The ranger here is less but more. With my trait system here i can change between throwable traps and dps/tank build in an instance. Only a fool wouldn’t think to switch out his trait slot skills.

I think my main problems with Ranger atm are these.

Spirits

  • The effect should be 100% chance when traited, 50% just doesn’t apply enough.
  • Make them invincible, cmon it’s not like they can do much of anything.
  • Make the active abilities actually hit something.

Pets

  • FIX THE ATTACKING. Tons of pets never hit their target, the attack animations, pathing, and targeting is frankly disgraceful.

ArenaNet has stated that they do not want to make twitch reactions; they don’t want to make giant sweeping changes to classes at once. But during my times playing mmorpgs over the past, that has kinda been what has made mmorpgs interesting for so long. That feeling of “Oh crap rogues are going to be gods this patch!” or “Warriors just got nerfed to hell!” was kinda interesting I’m not saying that this is a good idea, I’m just saying that this is an idea that I kinda liked in a weird way.
