Not really anything that significant has changed

What.

We got like 50 nerfs in these 4 months.

You can still play the same way you did at launch and do fine. Nerfs don’t stop you from playing the same way, they just make it more challenging.

I have talked about this trick months ago, BTW sword 1 can be also used same way (1st hit activate the chain, then 2,3 for leap), just little bit more complicated.
Easiest way is to use autohotkey to bind some macro. hope you can make some video for that.

Hrm, well a while back I played Age of Conan, and this sounds a lot to me like comboskipping/combomolding. I did that a ton, so I’ll try doing it in this game with the thing you suggested!

Also, I was thinking, and if you had GS on your alt, you could do this leap with the 1h sword, then do another with the GS skill 3, for crazy distance :P

The Spirit Challenge

in Ranger

Posted by: arrownin.3128

arrownin.3128

The key to spirits is placement. Spirits in Gw1 were alot weaker yet they were still viable. Postioning is a key element for rangers. This extends to spirits.
I would like to see more spirits. The problem isnt the spirits themselves its the role they play its support and very few people enjoy playing support. Even now you have gs rangers running spirits (charging straight of into battle)

While you will have limited sucess. I think is not the intent for spirits even if you have the moving trait. You would never put seige equipent on the front line. Unless you wanted it to get destroyed. The burning affect is great so is the protection and healing.

So the real problem is the implimentaion of the spirit which we a community need to understand.

Yes most of you think that spirits are garbage. But at one time most of the world thought that the world was flat.

Wow very beautiful and well spoken there!

Boost to spirits update

I have used spirits extensively and there is nothing wrong with them. They are simply good for passive boons/buffs for the team. They can be placed fairly far away whilst still be able to affect your team, making it key to put spirits in safe locations just out of reach for combat. That’s it. They’re just passive buffs, they don’t suck and there’s not really many ways for you to “use” them. Here’s a video of me using a build that I made up in an hour, and having spirits support my team.

I wasn’t good at managing my spirits during this video so it’s not the best example, but you can see the healing numbers pop up for allies, and boons pop up for them as well by looking at the team bar.

Spirits aren’t terrible. I’m not even a good Ranger PvPer, and I found that they are AMAZING support for your team… don’t be mean.

sorry, i fail to see what this demonstrates. except for the part where you run around with a small zerg with SoN out.

Yeah same here, nothing showed spirits are good.

The spirits provided buffs, which you can see proccing on the team bar (protection/swiftness) and you can see the healing numbers pop up for teammates, showing how when used, spirits can give swiftness, 33% damage reduction, and healing (plus the actives) to an entire team. Note that the effects can be traited so that protection/swiftness proc’s 50% of the times on all hits, which means that you can have theives, warriors, guardians, mesmers all taking 33% less damage moving with swiftness at the majority of the time during battles.
Considering this is hotjoin pvp, it’s going to be zerg vs zerg no matter what you do, but with spirits, you can see how you can help a party, regardless of zergging, through fights. Spirits have their weakness and they have their strengths.
I’ll admit, this is a bad example of how spirits can be great in pvp, but again, I’m not the best at pvp and my spirits weren’t up as much as they shouldve been.

The Most Interesting Build Awards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

arrownin.3128

What is the MIBA?
It is a competition for all classes to create the most intriguing, most original build for their class. The winners will be separated into classes, in other words, every class has their own top build. There is no in-game prize, (unless people want to donate for a prize pool), however I will make a video for each of the top builds, demonstrating how they work, and crediting the creator, and if you made it to the top, you can even be in the video.
If this competition is successful, I will hold a monthly contest for the most interesting builds, so that we can all try out cool new builds every month.

Rules

  • This has to be an original build made by you, or by a group of people.
  • You must link the build from a build editor, posted to this thread.
  • You must say if the build is for PvP or PvE.
  • You must give the build a name. For example a PvP Warrior build can be called “The Maceinator”

Optional

  • You can attach a video of yourself using the build.
  • Cookies.

Pets

  • Snow leopard
  • Lynx
  • Shark
  • Rainbow Jellyfish

Guide to Success
Weapon Usage
Use Shortbow for great sustainable damage, use the 3rd skill for SB for quick evades, 2nd skill for reducing healing on regeneration based enemies, 4th skill for pinning down targets, and 5th skill to stop spikers/healing/people helping up their friends.

Use the axe defensively, or for the chill. If your Snow Leopard misses his chill, and you NEED the chill to kill the enemy (Elementalist/Guardian/Necro…) switch to axes and use the 3rd skill to inflict quick chill. Use 2nd skill for a shotgun of bleed, use this at close range. Use 4th skill when you’re feeling bored. Use the 5th skill to do raw spike damage, or to gain some protection against ranged attackers.

Utility Skill Guide
You never need to activate Signet of the Hunt, generally speaking, the movement speed will defiantly help you more in fights than a single attack boost. Keep this skill unactivated, and basically use it as a passive buff.

Use flame trap when enemies come close, or to burst down enemies trying to run away. Excellent for combo fields, and also great in team fights. Use defensively, as you need to be on the spot that you use it on.

Zephyr is a great skill for bursting, however remember that you can’t heal during it’s duration. Also remember that it grants quickness to your pet, which can make for unbelievable burst. Make sure to activate it only when your pet is on the target, to ensure maximum damage potential. You can daze the target before popping zephyr to make sure that they are unable to do much of anything.

Entangle is great for ensuring a kill. Make sure to use it at relatively close range though, as it misses. Use it to lock down enemies and kill prime targets. Great in almost any situation.

Healing spring, use it in team fights, and any fight really. It helps your team, and it helps you. Pretty easy to use. You can be brave and pop it down in the middle of a brawl, but be careful not to die from doing so.

Against Classes
Warrior- Keep your distance, use your flame trap. Pop SB skill 5 to stop them from healing too much, or to stop a 100b spike. When finishing, make sure you stand behind your pet so the hammer hits the pet instead of you, so you can finish safely.
Elementalist- Try to keep chill/poison on as much as possible. Keep damage constant at all times, try to pop zephyr once you land a daze, or entangle.
Thief- Not much of a problem, dodge when they first appear, cripple and daze them and finish them off. Flame trap works wonders on these guys.
Engineer- Simply just kill, it doesn’t matter what you use really. If you want to get creative, use whirling defense.
Mesmer- Attack the real one once, and your pet will tend to follow it. Keep damage on the real one, pop daze once you have them out in the open and zephyr burst them down, clones can trigger flame trap which can help for the combo field. damage.
Guardian- Use poison and chill, and make sure to keep your distance. When they do the spinning Greatsword attack, use whirling defense to reflect their projectiles.
Necromancer- Poison and chill again, keep constant damage. When they enter death shroud wait for them to use their channeling ability (They will put their hand up) and then daze it to prevent them from healing/damaging.

Negatives of the Build
No stun breakers, not much raw damage, condition removal can be hard to deal with, relies on pet for some of the damage.

Positives of the Build
Great condition/pet damage, great survivability, amazing mobility, flexible for all situations.
Video
Here’s an example of what you can accomplish with this build. Hope you enjoy it.

Mounts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: arrownin.3128

arrownin.3128

So, there seems to be a split between people who think mounts are bad, and people that think mounts are good, with the occasional sprinkle of people that don’t really care either way in the middle. I’m one of those people that fell into the middle category.

I honestly do not see the harm in adding mounts into the game, however I don’t see why they should spend development time on something that’s essentially kinda useless at this point. On the other hand, they pretty much already have mounts in the game, example: broomstick, so I don’t see why they can’t just re-skin the broomstick to look like a Dolyak or a Minotaur, or a Flesh Golem. However, if they do decide to do this, I believe that they should be able to be used in combat.

This would help in some long travel times for WvWvW when there are no way points, and would be frankly just cool to see when armies face off, mounted on beast, or armed to the teeth in steel. However, I feel like there is also a risk of mounts being mandatory in WvWvW, making the army with the most mounts the best, making them a buy to win mechanic. Perhaps there can be a consumable mount that you can buy from the merchant in WvWvW? In any case…

Mounts would be widely useless as a mechanic in PvE, and in sPvP, seeing as there are waypoints everywhere in PvE, and in PvP I don’t see how mounts would be effective at all. That said, I don’t see the harm in adding them in, at all. It would just be another thing to buy to look cool, and even if they were useable in combat I wouldn’t really mind. Mounts were used by enemies in GW1 so I don’t see the harm in adding some here for players. I just do not think that this should be the primary focus of the development team at this time.

But who knows? Maybe they’ll add them in when an expansion comes out, adding a new mechanic and a new spice to the game, but if they do that people might just complain that it’s buy to win because you need the expansion to get mounts and blah blah blah the argument never ends.

Really? Just got to another spot or mute your sounds.
What’s being requested in this thread is utterly selfish and and a real kick in the balls for the people who own a set of bells.

So it’s not selfish for someone to expect other people to vacate areas or lose the ability to hear all music/ambient sound in the game because they want to spam “DINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDING” over and over? Instead, asking for a PERSONAL toggle which would stop the annoying town clothes sounds from being heard only by that single character is the selfish option?

All I can say to that is…

So it’d be ok to just walk up and call you names over and over again? I mean you can always just move or plug your ears, right?
