Completed The Clock Tower, My Thoughts...

in Halloween Event

Posted by: arrownin.3128

arrownin.3128

It is frustrating, very frustrating. In fact it is rage inducing, after failing hundreds of times it felt more like “I Wanna Be the Guy” than GW2. Took about three hours, and in the end it was worth it, however I feel like a lot of things could be changed to make this more enjoyable and less of a chore. For one, make it a solo instance, two make no timer for it to start, and three, fix the weird camera clipping at the end. This is an optional jump, but I’m glad that I finished it, all in all, it was frustrating but still a bit enjoyable.

My tips:

  • Keep your eyes ahead of your character, it helps in jumps somehow.
  • When you reach the leap of faith, make sure to jump forward. The platform you need to land on is farther out that you’d think.
  • When you start clipping with an object, it’s best to spam your spacebar to try to escape. On the other hand you could just give up and try again.
  • Keep a pillow by your side so you can beat the crap out of it.
  • Get some tea and play this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGBDWER-wUI to jump better.
  • Turn your graphics down so it will be smoother, yes it does help.
  • Look at forums to see people raging so it makes you feel better.

Just a warning for you guys, I got really sick after doing the Clock Tower Puzzle about 5 times, the spinning tower, the spinning camera, the spinning ocean of goo… ugh too much. Plus it’s really frustrating, cool nonetheless. Can’t bring myself to do this again though as I am getting a bit ill.

Greetings friend, you seem very weary and tired, what happened? Oh yes, you have ventured far too deep into the realm of forums without any know how! Fret not, I have just the thing. Here have this hot cup of hot chocolate and warm up by the fire, I will teach you what my father taught me, and my grandfather before him: To survive the other dimension of the forums.

Lesson One: Finding the Rose from the Thorns (How to Find Good Posts and Avoid Bad ones.)

Things to Avoid in Topic Titles…

  • Is the topic over dramatized? It’s probably someone typing their frustrations.
  • Is the topic about an issue already known? It’s someone complaining or someone with little knowledge of current events.
  • Is the topic something negative? Usually these are just pointless rants, if they start with good intentions, usually the post goes negative as the topic attracts negative players.
  • Is the topic about an item? Since all the items in the game have max stats easily accessible, this usually ends up being a complaint thread, but sometimes it might just be a picture of the item, so keep an eye out.
  • If the title says update etc. These usually just lead to people either complaining or laughing depending on how the update affected their class, and gameplay. When DR hit every update post was pretty much complaining of the such.

Things to look for in Topic Titles

  • Positive titles. Usually these are just people happy with the game and just want to write how they are happy. Sometimes this attracts negative attention though, so it is a hit or miss.
  • Guide topic titles. These are great, people that take the time out of their daily lives to make a guide for free are usually not trolls, the threads usually are constructive and provide some useful information.
  • Titles that mention exploits. The exploits themselves are not good, however shedding light on the exploit is, because it shows the development team that it is an issue that needs to be fixed.
  • Titles that mention pictures. Usually these are just threads of pictures, which is a fun little time sink that can have some great screensaver material.
  • Titles that deal with lore. Usually no negative players are attracted to lore posts, not saying that there isn’t the occasional angry post, I’m just pointing out that most people deep into lore really care about the game and sharing the knowledge about the game.
  • Titles that mention achievements in them. Usually these are people giving advice to others to show how they got their achievements, and 100% map completion.
  • Any posts done by ArenaNet are good, for information and otherwise.

How to Create Good Posts
The Simple Guide to Be Awesome

  • Make sure you have a good topic. Think about something in the game that you would like discussed, and make sure it has not been posted about a hundred times before. (The search helps!)
  • Make the title eye catching. If you were skimming through posts, you usually click on the one that draws your attention. Make sure the title relates to the topic, yet can lure people in to actually discuss it.
  • Use correct spelling. Please use correct spelling, if you do not, the forum will eat you alive and you will look stupid. Grammar is not that much of an issue, so long as it is not horribly bad.
  • Do not post about the flavor of the month problem in the game. It is just feeding negatively into trolls, and the devs usually lock these to stop the continuation of them.
  • Make sure you know what you are talking about. I am a victim of this one, and I looked like an idiot. Make sure you know what you are posting about, Google the topic and it will altogether improve the post.
  • Do not put your emotions into a post. If you put any emotion into a post, be prepared to be eaten alive, it is always safer to remain neutral, but this one can be very tricky to do sometimes.

Thank you everyone for the feedback, I looked at the video today and realized that it wasn’t really all that good. It was pretty shotty work that didn’t demonstrate how the build actually functions, the entire video was pretty much an annoying mess of my rambling and unfunny jokes that just made me come off as kitteny. But this doesn’t mean that I’m just quitting, I’m going to redo the video with much more detail and a bit less stupidity, in depth guides within the post itself explaining the stats and strategies behind the build, and situations that it excels in and situations that it doesn’t do good at all in. I deleted the video off my channel, and there should be a new guide out by tomorrow. After using a minion build for a week in tournament play and in hot-join pvp, I know that it is viable, I just need to explain how it is. Expect a post soon that will be much better than this, and I apologize for this one, I can do better and you should expect better.

Awesome. Just give yourself a outline of stuff to speak about. you seem to do well at keeping up a good flow of conversation, just less over the top silly, more demonstration/explanation with your humor mixed in would be more welcome. Look forward to seeing your next vid.

Yeah I really was just trying too hard and making the build look like it was amazing when I was playing against less than great players. I think most people like to see the build pushed to the limit instead of facerolling, so that’s what I’ll do. Plus I’ll bust a few myths people have about minions within the game

Creating a Build Involving Minions

The first thing to take into consideration, are the skills and stats of the minions. Each one will bring a new skill to the table, and it is extremely important to use minions as a compliment to a build instead of the focus. Even one of the builds that I use utilize every skill slot for a minion, and the minions are still not the focus. I’ll provide an example.

Tanky Minion Master

http://www.gw2db.com/skills/calc/necromancer#11|15|1200|2297|1151|1196|4693|10|1215|0|0|0|0|0|0|30|2243|698|2330|20|686|692|0|10|1242|0|0|0|0|0|28037|28045|49979|49979|49979|49979|49979|21025|48789|48789|48789|21082|21082|

This build primarily focuses on the retaliation boon and survivability, using the minions to remove boons, CC, while providing extra damage, healing, and toughness to the Necromancer. This build utilizes the Axe’s 3rd skill which provides the retaliation buff and a cripple, and the Spiteful Spirit trait to provide retaliation upon exiting Death Shroud. The trait for Transfusion is extremely important for healing your minions, team, and yourself, so it should be used whenever it is not on cool-down. The warhorn is great for staying away, while also having the ability to stop healing/stomps with the skill 4. The Melandru runes and soldier/cleric accessories are all focusing on the goal of surviving. Minions should be maintained, and used to help focus down targets, they are there for providing armor, a bit of healing, and some utility, but they should not be relied on. Use your Axe 2 skill to build life force, and remember to upkeep your retaliation.
Overall…

  • This build focuses on retaliation for sustain and damage.
  • Minions provide toughness, healing, and damage. The CC requires you to be mindful of minion position to be effective.
  • Use Death Shroud and Axe 3 to maintain retaliation.
  • Use Death Shroud skill 4 to provide healing to sustain you and your minions.
  • Use Flesh Wurm as a stun breaker and an escape. You can replace this with another stun-breaker if desired.
  • Use Axe’s auto-attack to stack vulnerability on targets, it helps more than you’d think.
  • Maintain distance from the enemy, let them come to you. Reacting to an action is easier than attacking.
  • Use the Death Shroud skill 3 to stop stomps or healing, and skill 2 to focus down a target easier.

Remember:
This is a build that focuses on surviving, although you will pick up kills, it is recommended that you support the team, or hold a point. Supporting is viable because of Transfusion and the CC you provide. Do not take the sheer number of minions for granted, it provides confusion and takes time to sort through the minions to click the target, though this isn’t really a true advantage, it can help in a pinch.

All Minion Information
Everything you need to know about our little pets.

All statistics were taking over a period of 3 minutes hitting each golem in the heart of the mists. No armor, weapons, traits, or accessories were equipped, level is set to 80

Starter Notes

  • The trait Minion Master does not apply it’s 20% recharge to minions for the active skills on the minions. I.E. Charge on the Flesh Golem will always be 40 seconds.

Flesh Golem

Damage to Heavy Armor: 550 – 984 damage on Auto-Attack. Critical dealt 1021 damage.
Damage to Medium Armor: 716-1242 damage on Auto-Attack. Critical for 1240 damage.
Damage to Light Armor: 640-1145 damage on Auto-Attack. Critical for 996 damage.

Charge Damage: Light Armor took 204 damage three times. Medium Armor took 209 damage three times. Heavy Armor took 176 damage three times.

Knock-back is 2 seconds long. Recharge on this is 40 seconds.

Applies 1 second cripple to the target hit for every auto-attack.

Shadow Fiend

Damage to Heavy Armor: 330 – 361 damage on Auto-Attack. 528 on Critical.
Damage to Medium Armor: 433-471 damage on Auto-Attack. 685 on Critical.
Damage to Light Armor: 395-416 damage on Auto-Attack. 691 on Critical.

Teleport Damage: Heavy Golem 509 damage. Medium Golem 631 damage. Light Golem 595 damage.

Teleport is on a 20 second cool-down. It applies a blind to the enemy for 3 seconds. To activate the teleport there is a 4 second channel that the minion must do.

Bone Fiend

Hits twice for every auto-attack it preforms. This means that each individual shot that it fires has the potential to critical. One may hit for a crit, and the other one in the same shot might not. Attacks count as a projectile finisher.

Damage to Heavy Armor: 138 – 370 damage on Auto-Attacks, hits twice. Critical for 549 damage.
Damage to Medium Armor: 175-462 damage on Auto-Attack, hits twice. 292 on Critical Hit.
Damage to Light Armor: 173 – 403 damage on Auto-Attack, hits twice.

Rigor Mortis Damage: 341 damage on Heavy Golem. 468 damage on Medium Golem. 404 damage on Light Golem.

Rigor Mortis immobilizes the target for 2 seconds, and has a 50 second recharge time. Using this skill will make the Bone Fiend immobilized for a short time as well.

Flesh Wurm

Damage to Heavy Armor: 788 – 873 damage on Auto-Attack. Critical Hit for 1273 damage.
Damage to Medium Armor: 1021 – 1105 damage on Auto-Attack. Critical Hit for 1670 damage.
Damage to Light Armor: 940 – 1014 damage on Auto-Attack. Critical hit for 1457 damage.

Necrotic Traversal damage: 165 poison damage tick for 4 seconds on Heavy Golem. 164 poison damage tick for 4 seconds on Medium Golem and Light Golem.

Necrotic Traversal is a teleport that will teleport you to it’s direction for a distance of 1200. This means that it will only move you 1200 in it’s direction if you are out of range. The teleport can move you through some physical objects. The teleport is a blast finisher. The cool-down is 40 seconds.

In Depth Guide to the Minion Master [In Progress]

in Necromancer

arrownin.3128

Hey everyone, this post will be looking in depth into the minion master build. Over time I will be editing my saved spots within the posts to show how you can create many great builds using minions. This post will also show the pros and cons of being a minion master, and overall how to make this spec work for the necromancer. The build will build over time and I will post the video of the final results of this research on my channel on youtube. (Goes by my username on here)
I do not want to repeat my last failed attempt at this build, because the build itself is actually very viable, it just takes a different type of thinking. All suggestions and critique will be read that are posted within this post, so please take the time to ask questions and I’ll try to answer them the best that I can.

Part One; Baby Steps.
The first thing you must consider as a Necromancer that uses minions, is that each minion can fill a certain role. Do you want more damage? Take the Bone Minions for the nice explosion. Do you run a condition build? Take Bone Fiend for the cripple to lock down enemies. Learn what your build is lacking, and see if minions can fill that hole.
Minions are unreliable. That is simply a fact that all Minion Masters must deal with. You must keep a constant tab on where the minions are at all times, to ensure that they have the best chance to hit their target. Will the Flesh Golem have his charge blocked by that bit of terrain? Will this wall block the Bone Fiend’s projectiles? Will my Flesh Wurm teleport allow me to pass through this object? Knowing these things is a key factor to being a Master. Use minions in PvE and PvP often, and you will see their patterns, and you can adjust your strategies to them.
Minion Masters rely a lot on confusion. Much like Mesmers and their illusions, we rely on a horde of flesh to confuse the enemy, and make us harder to target. Move around quicky, use your minions as a distraction. Bring Stun Breakers, and movement speed boosters to get away quickly. Stand in the back of minions to ensure that the minion will be hit before you, soaking up a tiny bit of damage.

Haha well I would never rely on AI for any serious PvP, too unreliable. This was really just a test to see if I could make a functional minion build for hot join stuff. I watched the video, or well the first half of it and sorry for all the negative feedback but it seems like the minions are actually hindering your build. For one, the people in the video you are up against are extremely poor players. That mesmer just kinda sat there and took whatever you threw at him. If I had to guess that had to be his first three games as a mesmer. The guardian was literally attacking your minions multiple times. Still, even against really poor opponents your minions spent just as much time on cooldown as they did on the field from dying. I think if you got rid of the minions, changed your spec a bit and grabbed well of suffering and well of corruption or even the standard plague signet spectral skills you would have more success. Just my two cents.

Well this was a bad example but I’ve been using this build all week and it’s been treating me very well. Hardly lost any games. Plus I could go optimal but this isn’t about using the best stuff, it’s a build for minion masters.

Also the flesh wurm has a 1200 range on the teleport, that’s not far enough to teleport between points.
The shadow fiend is 1 attack blind, that’s not enough to stop thieves or warriors and there is a large delay between the time you press it and the time the shadow fiend finishes his magazine and teleports to the target, has coffee with the target and blinds him.

Updated it so it’s a bit more informative and a bit less silly. As for the flesh wurm, I’ve gotten some weird teleports, sometimes it’s cross map and others the teleport doesn’t work. Every minion skill is just a quick action that can keep you alive or kill the enemy, it’s not about complete shut downs, but more like reactions to actions. If you can read the enemy every minion skill can be amazing.

The focus of this build is to utilize retaliation from Death Shroud and the Axe 3 skill to reflect most damage that comes your way, while using minions to provide extra armor and healing. The result is a hilarious build that completely owns.
TIPS:

1) Make sure to upkeep ALL your minions. Yes all of them, except the flesh wurm, I’ll get to that.

2) The flesh wurm is a teleport that lasts for a long long time. The range is short, but keep in mind that it can go through walls, the vector goes directly from you to the wurm and passes through physical objects, which can make for interesting plays.

3) The bone fiend is kind of bad at his job, he’s kinda drunk most of the time, and this results in him becoming depressed on the job. He misses almost all of his immobilizes, however the flesh golem can help him out through charge therapy. Use the flesh golem charge to start your spike, use your fiend’s root while using your Axe 2 for a delicious meal.

4) Use the blind on your shadow buddy to simply shut down physical weapon users, it’s hilarious. Keep in mind that the blind does not last long, and is just a temporary escape, when used properly it can be very effective.

5) UPKEEP RETALIATION. I cannot stress this enough, constantly use death shroud and Axe 3 to do so. Make sure to use the death shroud 4 skill to heal your friends and keep your minions alive and kicking whenever the skill is off cool-down.

6) Use war horn 5 to make sure that enemies wont touch you, and war horn 4 to stop spikes or stop enemies from healing. It’s also good for stopping enemies from finishing your team off.

Overall just be the wave of unstoppable flesh that can change games, you are the horde and the horde cannot be stopped. Have fun Necromancers.

Make sure to post replies! I’d love to hear your feedback to improve this build!

Here’s a video that I think ArenaNet should see, it shows a bot train farming in the starter Norn area, which shows that the botters have confidence that they won’t get banned, or they just don’t care. Can I get some sort of response on the matter of banning, bots, and overall the state of the game? Being transparent is very important to keep a good player base, people need to have information. I love your game, but there’s always something in everything that could use a bit of fixing.

To be fair though, the rifle for engineers does feel very clunky when compared to rifle on warriors. I think its because they needed to make so many different kits actually function, and also feel good to use. Imo pistols and shield feel fine for engineers, but rifles really do feel clunky. Maybe its just me

When you look at what its purpose is, it isn’t clunky at all. It’s just not the same as what the purpose of the warrior rifle is. There’s much more control with the engineer rifle.

I am not talking about the rifle’s usage or purpose. I am talking about the feel of using a rifle on an engineer. It does not feel smooth at all, it feels very clunky and overall not smooth. It feels like I picked up an environmental weapon, but then I realise that its the weapon I primarily use.

Different classes use different weapons in different ways, at least you seem to understand that concept and have found fun in taking a class that suits your wishes better, instead of going on the forums to rant how the devs are wrong to have made the game like it is and to make it suit your needs.

An other kit would not destroy the game, but an other kit that basically mirrors the ability of an other class… that’s where the issues roll in.

You say that I don’t have a knack for game developement, but from what you say – it’s quite the other way around. No good game dev would make every class a mirror or a mix of other classes. That’s poor design for one and also useless from a gameplay perspective.

Also, there’s no reason why they should heed your wish for a class that perfectly suits your needs. You opinion is not law here. There isn’t any reason why you or anyone else here should get a checklist class, which gives them exactly what ever they please and nothing else.
“I want the ranger’s longbow, the engineer’s grenades, the warrior’s regen and vengeance, mesmer’s portals, elementalist’s blink and attunements…” — that’s not how it works. Every class has their pros and cons and the players shouldn’t be able to decide those.

Also, I’ll just quote my self here:

Asking for engineer rifle to be a long range weapon, instead of the short-mid range that it is now, is like asking for a warrior’s greatsword to be a long range weapon like the mesmer’s greatsword is now.

I think he wanted the same thing I wanted, which was a class that used rifles as a primary weapon. Engineers can do this but to really shine they need to use.kits which really draws attention away from rifle combat and turns it into weapon kit switching fun go go time. With the only thing that I wanted from engies (turrents) not being effective at all, and the rifle being more of a shotty that requires kits to work properly, I think a lot of people including myself fell in love with the idea of engies, but didn’t like the way the concept was handled. I myself am going to make a rifle warrior and will personally love shooting from 1200 range getting 16k criticals, and only switching to my sword/shield for when baddies get too close.

There are alot of viable rifle/elixir and rifle gadget builds that are focused on the rifle and use gadgets on PBR/toolkit/rifle turret/etc for extra burst and Elixir B and U for big increases to damage output. I posted a pretty solid rifle/gadget in a previous topic that you can look up (which I use in sPvP), and the rifle elixir builds are around on here too. What type of play are you looking to use it for (PvP, WvW, PvE, everything)?

I guess I made this thread more as an excuse to make a rifle warrior. Engineer’s rifle isn’t what I thought it would be and its more like a shotgun go go gadget weapon than a rifle, I’d prefer a rifle user that didn’t still have to rely on kits to be viable, just kinda sad because I have to relevel XD. I’ll still keep my engie though, just so when they balance out everything I can be a sentry master

But the other main reason is that I wanted to use my rifle only, I’m not such a big fan of kits, and yes they’re amazing, I’d just rather play a rifle only style. So here’s my question, with the way engineers are, should I go warrior for my rifle fix or play with engie still? Because I’m feeling very useless by only using paper turrents and a shotgu-snip-thing.

Now it has really just become mindless complaining, I don’t like DR either but I am not 6 years old so I can wait while they fix a video game. Devs have been so paitent with us that they still respond to DR threads after doing so 100s of times already. It will get fixed.

I agree with most of what you have said except that bit. There’s no point blindly defending the indefensible. Today was the first time in weeks someone officially spoke to us about the DR issue. Until this point, NOONE knew if this was a bug, working as intended or working but wasn’t tweaked correctly. All we knew was there was DR; it was to curb gold farmers/bots and that legit play was getting affected.

that was all we knew and it needed weeks of complaints before someone actually wrote to clear up the issue. I would hazzard a guess that the majority of the complaints on this issue was only due to the fact that we were nearly completely dark on its intent and intended function.

saying “wait for them to fix it” implies you knew it was a bug, which you didn’t. Noone did. According to the dev, it’s working but the threshhold needs to be adjusted to be less severe. now we know and now we should be patient.

Unfortunately you are not entitled to information about updates, or bugs, or exploit fixes. So they didn’t even have to fix this issue at all. In facr they could have said its not an issue and left it. Information on the current standing of future updates and bugs is a privilage given to you from arenanet, it is not a right.

Hello everyone I’d like to explain the differences between opinions and constructive criticism, because it seems a lot of forum users don’t know the differences.

How to tell if it is an.opinion
Opinions, everyone has them. However they add no real feedback and are often times harmful to the forums.

I think (blank) is unfair
This is a common one, as yes sometimes it does seem unfair to die in PvP, or to be unable to finish a map because of a bug, however we don’t need your emotional tale of the 100 blades warrior, we need information on damage, bugs, stats, and other fixable issues.

I think I should be able to (blank), it is my right as a gamer!
Actually no, this goes to gamer entitlement, which is a controversial title indeed. However, all gamers are entitled to is for the game to function properly. That’s it, fixing bugs is a part of that and the anet team is working hard, and we should post specific bugs within the game that can help them. Saying that you don’t think 100% map completion should have PvP maps is not helping, it is just you expressing your opinion.

This class is overpowered, my class is underpowered
This happens a lot, in every game, ever. The great thing is that arena net actually listen to substantial feedback and fix bugs, it takes time but they are fixing it. Be paitent and think about how much money waiting will cost you, oh wait won’t because there’s no subscription fee.

Now it has really just become mindless complaining, I don’t like DR either but I am not 6 years old so I can wait while they fix a video game. Devs have been so paitent with us that they still respond to DR threads after doing so 100s of times already. It will get fixed.

This game is bad, this other game was so much better
Oh thats nice, but that’s just an opinion and it is also a pointless one to express seeing as this is Guild Wars 2, not Guild Wars 1, not WoW, not Everquest, not Aion it is just Guild Wars 2. comparisons are useless and devoid of anything helpful that would advance this game.

I demand this
No. Go back to your room and eat your vegetables.

Constructive Criticism

This involves feedback that devs can actually put to use in order to fix bugs and improve on the overall game. A post about class imbalances can be helpful if you can provide detailed information, and not just “this class sucks ans I don’t do any damage please fix”. Devs need something like “the necromancer class is imbalanced because the staff attack takes 4.7 seconds to reach its target and with the marks doing only 2330 damage per second when compared to the other classes (stats and info) the necro falls short”. Also if you are reposting about a bug that already was addressed by the devs, then don’t post again. It’s just not helpful. Finally know that all content can be changed and rebalanced, however it is ultimately not up to you, its up to what the devs envision. If they use our feedback then that’s great, but is not what we should expect them to do everytime. Another good example is to provide screenshots to prove your message is correct, just hit print screen, its easy and it provides validation. Know that you need to provide proof along with feedback, as it helps fix the issue, no proof means that no one can actually believe you, so give them a reason to.

Thanks for reading this, hopefully it can help our forums become more constructive and less whiney.

No Incentive to Beat the Personal Story?

Due to the fact that a lot of people think opinions = constructive criticism, I’d like to ask everyone here to post responses that actually have substantial feedback to them. That said, I believe that there is no incentive given to players to complete their personal story, by that I mean that there is no in game value for completing it, there might be personal value, but there is no actual value in financial terms. I do believe that they need to give some substantial reward for following their storyline, otherwise people will not do it. Maybe get exotics, or money, or bags, or minipets. Anything really. Right now blues and greens aren’t cutting it, and it gives me no reason to do the story again except for my own personal interests within the plot. But in the end people need something at the end of the journey to make it feel worth it.

Hey guys quick question. Look to your world completion bar, now back at me, now look at your bar again, closely this time, you might miss something! Alright back to me. You can see that the bar does not say PvE map completion. It certaintly doesn’t say PvP map completion. It means total map completion. Every map. Yes this means WvW, oh stop your crying. “You actually need to explore 100% of everything?” Yes. “But I don’t like WvW, PvP is stupid.” it an achievement, its optional. “But I need it for my legendaries!” If this is the thing that is causing you trouble then maybe you need to just think over your life.

There weren’t any battlegrounds in WoW, but there was world PvP. This included raids on the capital cities of the opposing faction. There were also duels. GW2 lacks both of these things, though it does have four WvW maps (kind of) and a handful of battlegrounds. So, GW2 probably wins on PvP. Though, it’s hard to call zerg vs. zerg "PvP’. :P

You’re right that WoW was probably the most meaningfully content rich game on release in MMO history (although it felt small, at the time, in comparison to Everquest). Open world PvP, though? You mean the Tarren Mill/Southshore shuffle? Please. Let’s not insult everyone’s intelligence by claiming WoW had any functionally integrated PvP at launch, because it didn’t.

Handwaving WvWvW, which is probably the best large scale PvP implementation in any game since DAoC, as “zerg vs zerg” makes you seem a little over-eager to slam GW2. Criticism rings a lot truer when it’s fair and objective. When I see people jumping out of their skin to blast every single element of a game…even its strengths…I don’t think “rational objective criticism”. I think “confirmation bias” and “Hate Dumb”.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HateDumb

I dismiss WvW as zerg vs. zerg because that’s what I’ve experienced thus far. I participated long enough to get my 50 kills for the month and then bailed because I disliked the game so much. If I wasn’t part of a zerg, I was picked off by an enemy zerg. You more or less need zergs to take towers and fortresses.

I don’t think that my criticism is unfounded or a result of confirmation bias. I assure you, I have plenty of problems with WoW, too. I post on their forums as Kwami. It shouldn’t be too hard to find something negative. :P

WvW is certainly advertised as a strength of GW2, but I don’t see it that way. I see it as I see many other elements in this game: a good start, but ultimately disappointing.

For someone who dislikes gw2 that much and WoW so much you sure do spend a lot of time on the forums expressing your opinions which are almost never constructive, and usually just consist of just that, opinions and hardly any real facts. So ill beg this question, why bother wasting so much time here on the forums? You obviously don’t like the game so are.you trolling? Just attention hungry? I really don’t get it.

Forced PvP

You mention 3 keywords: “PvP”, “achievement”, “explorer”.

1) GW line of games are centered around PvP. You might not like it but that’s what the games are about and ANET never hidden that.

Completely false . In fact in order for you to partake in HA in the beginning you had to be Ascended which was a COMPLETELY PvE thing . There is a whole 2 1/2 pages dedicated to PvP in the Prophesies Manual if GW was about PvP wouldent there be more?

The reason Guild Wars is called such is do to lore and lore alone .The Guild wars took place between 1013 and 1070 AE between the kingdoms of Kryta Ascalon and Orr. The only thing that brought them to an end essentially was the Charr invasion .

As for world completion The Mists (where WvW takes place ) are not part of the world according to lore so it shouldn’t be needed for world completion

Also you are incorrect again. Dun dun dun! The mists location and existance are unknown in lore! Some say that it overlaps tyria making it a world intertwinedwith our own, one and the same! Some say it could be another dimension or realm like the realm of torment where abbadon was imprisoned. Others say it is our world but reflected in strange ways, like when you look into a wavey mirror. In any case saying that the mists are not within tyria is false as there is no proof that the mists and tyria are one and the same!

My favorite storyline in any guild wars setting has to be in guild wars beyond when you deal with the ministry of purity, you actually see a organization that you can’t label as completely good, or completely bad, its hard to determine! The story also questions the player asking what theyve really done besides killing to solve the affliction, and really when we look, that’s all we did. This storyline questioned the player in terms of morality and it.showed a darker, raw side of the story, showing that to clean up something so horrible, you couldn’t save everyone, and this really made players think as this went away from bad guy fights good guy. Anet I know you can make really interesting stories, i loved this one, but I feel like you guys were holding back, I’d love to hear some dev input on this, I love you guys, been playing since gw1 beta!

Are Charr Really Atheist?

In lore, the human gods have been silent ever since the ending of nightfall in guild wars 1. Chart gave up their gods when they saw that they were actually just powerful monsters. Go 200 years into the future and we have gw2, humans havent had any contact with the gods and many are questioning their existance, charr don’t believe in gods since their dealings with their fake ones, and now some don’t know if they existed to begin with. Other chart believe that the gods were just powerful beings like the destroyers. Gods also did not come before the world. In lore the gods FOUND tyria, and brought humans to it (suggesting that humans are actually aliens) to tyria. Charr were also on tyria before humans arrived. There are many theories but yeah, charr don’t think that there are any gods, just powerful beings like dragons, but they are strongly against the worship of said beings. They tell grawl to stop worshiping things all the time.

So does that mean that all players should have a somewhat balanced build? If so how would that relate to customization within the classes? Are some builds just not viable for PvE? And my main question was really are full tanks useless, you know, those guys who have max health, max armor, and pretty much no.damage

Hello fellow Tyrians, I have a serious question: is there any point in being tanky? Most dungeon bosses seem to one shot you, so that 5000 toughness isn’t helping much, health pools usually just allow for 1 extra smack from Mr.boss man, so really, why not just go all damage or healing for dungeons? You could say that they’re good for holding out against trash mobs, which is true, but only in rare situations, and usually even then a skilled non-tank can.cover. I really enjoy tanking in RPGs but I’m finding it hard to know where my tankiness is helpful, and theres not many situations that come to mind, so in all, is building tanky really worth it for dungeons or would I just be useless and learn to dodge as a glass cannon?

Perhaps, I was just wondering if there was a legitimate reason like lore or something, the GS look awesome but I think that if they did that “2 legendary weapons can be combined to make a godly one” like GS it would make more sense, maybe they just haven’t added it in?

I’m not complaining first off, secondly, I think they’re awesome, thirdly, seriously why are there three? It’s not like you can dual wield greatswords, I mean, daggers and pistols only have one legendary, why does GS get to have more? Wouldnt it make more sense to make more 1 handed legendaries that people would dual wield? It just weirds me out.

Note; this is just something id like to talk about, all the legendaries have their cool aspects, but it just seems weird that one weapon type would get favored.

http://en.gw2codex.com/build/19291-blood-well-necro-d-d-point-holder

Here’s the build if you guys don’t want to watch the video, the main point of this build is to focus on survivability, support, and healing. Here’s what I wrote on the build page:

When using this build, I had a full set of Grove runes, and a Cleric amulet. The point of this build is to support your team with protection and healing through wells, while also maintaining your own health through powerful siphons and tons of life force to feed into your death shroud. This build works best as a point holder, due to the survivability, and as a support in a team fight.

The build works like this:

Start off with a blind, and Enfeebling Blood, go in to attack with your auto attack.

When the blind runs out, use your Dark Pact, and siphon your first bit of life.
Wash rinse and repeat, use death shroud whenever you can and use the 2nd skill in death shroud to get close to your enemies.

Use the fear on death shroud to stop enemies from finishing off your allies.

USE DEATH SHROUD WHENEVER YOU CAN!

Make sure to use wells appropriately, use them as a last resort, or a finishing move rather than an initiate.

You can sacrifice your signet for some extra damage, but only do it if it’s your only option.

Make sure to maintain range, you’re a necromancer not a thief, melee can kill you easily. Learn to run in when your blind is up and when youre finishing off, and when youre not you can kite while leeching.

I made this build RIGHT before this last update, however this doesn’t change the build itself, in fact the increased range for life siphon and the fix on vampire made this build function even better! You could probably switch out Locust Signet for Blood is Power, but I think the movement speed is too good to pass up. Here’s a video demonstrating how the build works, I’d love some feedback!
