People seemed to have dumped Shortbow for the time being as it has similar projectile issues. And the recent hit to it’s DPS from the QZ nerf have left a few people rather bitter. Honestly, it’s still good, just notably slower than before.

As for Axe… Well, people don’t seem to give it any love. It’s a good weapon, too. Just… AoE focused so it doesn’t get as much attention from the PvPers, I’d reckon. And PvPers tend to be the most vocal over the forums.

(That’s not a crack at PvPers. Being vocal can be a good thing, or a bad thing. Just depends on if you’re polite while you do it.)

When I played ranger, I personally found the Axe/Warhorn combination to be the best in team supporting, utility, and CC. Just my opinion anyway.

I have a lvl 80 Guardian, Thief, and Engineer, along with a lvl 23 Necro, and I feel that Elementalist is my favorite class. They have many strengths, and are very hard to take down. With their team support and AoE utility, I think that ele will be my next lvl 80.

Played Ele First Time, My Thoughts

arrownin.3128

Yesterday was the first time I played an Elementalist
After reading the forums I was a bit nervous and put off, thinking that the Elementalist would be horribly broken and unable to do any useful tasks. So I started off in sPvP, without changing any default traits, runes, or amulets. All I did was pick up a staff and test it out.

My Thoughts on Staff
It’s a team fight weapon. That’s it. It provides excellent boons, amazing debuffs for the enemy team, and alright damage, not great, but with all the utility it’s really not needed. The complaints about meteor shower made me question why I thought it was good when I tried it. It’s cast time was a bit much, but it still provided team support during fights. However I felt like Meteor Shower was more of a skill that I used last. I usually popped my debuff, and heal AoE skills, then switched to Meteor Shower as a “Kill the last of em” skill. The fire attunement was a bit lack luster for staff, but since I was using it for utility, I guess I can see why. The only reason I went to fire was for the escape move. Other than that, staff was a great weapon for support, utility, and a bit of offense.

My Thoughts on Dagger Main Hand.
Basically this was one of my favorites. The utility, damage, and effects that dagger main hand provided was amazing. My favorite skill is probably Earth attunement’s 3 skill, or the grab. Nothing like jumping off a ledge, grabbing an enemy, and having him stun locked for 15 seconds while I’m pulled to him in a buggy fashion. Overall though, I felt that this was a very offensive weapon that provided some interesting effects. Good for fast movement, and alright for team fights. Not as good as staff for support, but it makes up for it in offense.

My Thoughts on Scepter
It’s an amazing damage dealing weapon. Done all from range. The scepter is probably the strongest weapon for elementalist that I’ve tried, just since everything can be done from a range. It can provide great synergy in team fights, prevent stops, and keep foes blinded so you can burst them down. The dragon tooth hit more than not, since people generally don’t focus on it, but instead on the enemies in front of them. Overall a great weapon for damage, locking down targets, and preventing stomps. Also has some good AoE skills for support.

My Thoughts on Focus Offhand
This is a very underrated weapon, it’s amazing for defense, and amazing for support. Overall, I’d use this with being tanky in mind. Although it requires some good judgement and skill to use, I’d say that this weapon is one of the strongest in the Elementalist’s arsenal, rivaling the dagger offhand in terms of being amazing.

My Thoughts on Dagger Offhand
Even though this weapon is amazing for damage, I found that I used it even more for CC and mobility. The AoE effects it provided also made for amazing team fight synergy and pretty high burst potential. This is the one I think I’ll be sticking with for my main hand dagger, just since I need to be on my target to do damage. The AoE heal from the water attunement is not to be under estimated as well, I could fight an enemy, while starting with 1k health, and in 5 seconds be at full. Very good weapon.

Thoughts on Utility Skills
I thought most of them were lack luster. The Glyphs and Signets were kinda crap, so I didn’t use them. Except for the heal on using spell one. The Arcane abilities were awesome, and great for damage, the elemental based ones provided some great stun breaking and good potential for stomping. Overall, the utility skills were great, except for the glyphs and signets, which is bad because they make up the majority of the utility skills. I probably am just a noob and don’t know how to use them yet, maybe they’re great, I’m just a first timer.

Thoughts on Elite Skills
I didn’t use the Firey Greatsword, as I need to have the ability to use all my skills in order to be viable. I barely used the tornado for the same reason, although the knock back is good, and the damage is great. I pretty much used the summon elemental pet one all the time. I found that the only elemental worth summoning was the water one, as it provided an AoE heal. The other ones I didn’t notice any difference when fighting an enemy, maybe they did something, maybe they didn’t. I really couldn’t tell unless it was the water elemental.

My Thoughts on Elementalist
Ele is a super versatile, very viable, and very high potential class. The team support, debuffs, and damage that all of their weapons offer is something to behold, any sPvP team that has a good ele will have amazing survivability and team fight capability. Ele can choose between support and utility from staff, defense and utility from focus, offensive capabilities from dagger, utility and offensive capabilities from scepter, and astounding mobility and damage from offhand dagger.

There’s a big problem with bows right now that a strafing target can dodge their attacks easily at 750+ range. Just walking, not dodging.

So people might be getting close because they fear their attacks just whiffing because the projectile speed is too slow.

It’s supposed to be changing on 12/14 when the new patch hits, so we’ll see if people stop face-bowing you.

Ahhh I actually read something along these lines. I have a lvl 80 guardian and I have the same issue with my scepter, everyone seems to dodge them easily. Still, if that’s the case it seems better to just go shortbow or axe for the time being.

Regeneration + Retaliation Theory Crafting

in Guardian

Posted by: arrownin.3128

arrownin.3128

So basically
I’ve been looking at two things with the Guardian. One, that we have Virtue of Resolve, which is a passive regen that can be upgraded, and two, we have a lot of skills that grant retaliation.

The rune of the Dolyak provides passive regen as well, which creates two sources of regeneration for us. I was wondering if there was a way to maximize this passive regeneration, to make it put out crazy amounts of healing.

Going onto to retaliation, I was wondering if there was a way to permanently maintain this boon, seeing as there are traits related to extending and proccing it, maybe there’s a way?

My Theory
I think that there is a build that can be designed with massive regeneration and the upkeep of retaliation. Making any damage taken be thrown back at the enemy, and the rest of the damage that’s left over be healed up quickly by the passive regen. Basically a tank that has insane amounts of regen, which isn’t attached to boons, because both sources are attached to passive effects. (Meaning it can’t be removed!)

Post your ideas!

Why is this

arrownin.3128

First off, I don’t play Ranger.
This is not to say that I haven’t played the class, I actually have played every class for a good 2 days each, because I like to get a feel for every class in the game, as it helps you beat them or understand how to help them in a team. So here’s my question:

Why does every single longbow ranger I fight in sPvP run straight up to me until he’s point blank shooting me in the face. I’m not talking about just doing so for the knockback, I mean they focus their longbow playstyle around going straight up to the enemy and using their attacks at about 500 – 300 range.

This seems kinda dumb to me because when they do this, I pretty much lock them down and kill them pretty easily. The few good longbow rangers I never even notice before it’s too late, as they are up on some structure or a hill that is hard to reach, and they use their knockback defensively.

So basically why? Why do all these longbow rangers run up to me so close? Is there some sort of benefit? Or are they just bad?

Engineers Are Over Powered, Dec 3 Update

Engineer

  • Toss Elixir C: This skill’s underwater cooldown is reduced from 60 seconds to 30 seconds to match the land recharge.
  • Elixir S: Fixed a bug that would cause this skill to go on normal recharge when
    Fast-Acting Elixirs is equipped.
  • Smoke Bomb: Cleaned up skill facts.

These fixes just made us O freakin P. That’s right. We are overpowered. Now when we are underwater, we can use TOSS ELIXIR C, the absolute best damaging ability in the game, with half the recharge. Oh, you might say that Toss Elixir C doesn’t do damage. Well, if you get the trait Acidic Elixirs, it makes Toss Elixir C a combo field. That’s right. A combo field. It’s like combos, pepperoni flavored. With a pepsi. Once you get this delicious trait, it creates a new type of combo field, called Napalm Field. It instantly kills any target affected by it, once the engineer does /dance. Oh yes. Elixir S now can give 99% damage reflection by using the trading post as a source for the blast finisher. Lastly, the smoke bomb fix is not just a fix. Anet did an invisible patch again. Smoke bomb now creates a pitfall trap that does 500 fall damage per sec to anyone within the smoke. It also summons Nicholas Cage to attack your enemies. This update was GODLY. Anyone who didn’t think the same is obviously a scrub.

  • Fixed a bug that allowed a ranger to have two traps of the same type active simultaneously.

Wow
Guys, as a Guardian, I cannot tell you how happy this makes me. I cannot tell you how many times a ranger has done 60k damage (PER TICK!) using two of the same traps. The pet that the Ranger had then finished me off after jumping over obstacles and a gap in the terrain, and did a massive amount of damage to my person. The pet was then ordered to finish me off, and did so with such quickness and precision that it was practically like a player playing a pet. You guys got me good though with my ring of warding nerfed! Darn you all!!

With this MAJOR nerf, it looks like all of our builds will become useless. No longer will we be able to contain Subdirector Blingg’s horror in Lions Arch. We will no longer be able to keep the queen from being assassinated in her throne room, and worst of all… We will not be able to stop Logan Thackeray from running away. Thus, our only useful skills surrounding this Ring of Warding are rendered mute. I don’t know how the developers can sleep at night with such a massive change. Looks like I’m going to reroll a thief.

Mace/Torch Wombo Combo!

in Guardian

Posted by: arrownin.3128

arrownin.3128

Couple of quick notes:

1.) Torch scales with power instead of Condition damage. The 4th skill can crit for 6k on a good power build.

2.) Sword has better overall synergy than mace for torch. The damage from the 1 skill, Blind and teleport from 2 skill, and the Ranged block and damage from the 3 skill assist good with the torch. Mace only has a chump block ( Single Block) with 3 skill, slow cast low damage small symbol with regen in the 2 skill, and very slow yet decent damage from the 1 skill.

I can make a build with the Mace in a bit if you wish. I think a Sword/Focus and Scepter/Torch build could be better though. I’ll come back in a bit and post both.

That’d be great! Thanks!

I Hate All of You, But I Love You So Much!

in Warrior

arrownin.3128

Let me say this, I have developed a condition, somewhat like post traumatic stress disorder. Nowadays every time someone says Hundred Blades, or One Hundred, or Blades, I twitch and preform the Norwegian death moan and slam my face onto the V key until I am knocked unconscious. So yeah, I guess you could say that I kind of hate to fight 100b warriors.

They’re easy enough to counter, but if you don’t counter them, you will become a delicious Charr smoothie.

It’s like walking around in a bad part of town, and all of a sudden a giant 20 wheeler truck speeds after you, luckily you have your pocket rocket launcher and are ready to take the menace head on! But sometimes your wife forgets to reload it and your only other option is to slow motion run to the truck in a field of flowers to the song “I Will Always Love You”.

The guys who don’t spam 100b are cool though. You can be my friends. We can bake cupcakes and tell scary stories. But the chocolate is mine. You cannot have it.

So Why Do I Still Love You?
Because frankly, having three 100b warriors for a dungeon is freaking amazing. Nothing survives. It’s like watching a washing machine go into a giant blender. Amazing. I hardly have to do anything, maybe use my Guardian to give quickness and might, but that’s it. Brings a tear of joy to my eye. Sniff.
Basically, I hate fighting against you, all of you. You guys melt my face unless I can get away, and that’s not cool bro. But when you guys are on my side fighting against the forces of evil, it’s pretty much HELL YEAH SPACE MARINE HEAVY METAL TIME.

You all break my heart, but I forgive you, and I still love you, no matter how many times you beat me up :’).

Is Anyone Else Fine?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: arrownin.3128

arrownin.3128

To Be Honest…
I haven’t really been having trouble playing the game and getting what I want. I’m currently at 83% map completion, and have gathered every single thing while 100%ing maps. (I’m going for my legendary). Since I earn about 2g doing oricalcum/omnom berry runs, and earn a bit more if I decide to do a dungeon or two, I reckon I’ll get my legendary in a few months. Which is completely fine by me, since it is a legendary after all.

But overall…
Nothing that changed has really affected my gameplay, or desires in the game. The ascended gear is a nice boost, but it is not so significant that I’d be useless without it, so I just don’t really care about it at the moment. DR is kind of annoying, but I’m not really affected by it much, I usually just play the game and explore and it tends to fade away. My income is pretty steady, and if I wanted to play the Trading Post game, I’d make even more. (Not willing to deal with the frustration atm).

There’s been a lot of complaining on the forums, and even though that’s common in every game, I’d like to just say that I’m personally fine, and not really all that affected by changes in the game. Not everyone is mad with all these changes! I just play it for fun, gather some loot, and kill some baddies! Charr with a Chainsaw Greatsword! Carrying a torch in one hand and a mace in the other, lighting dudes on fire! (and sometimes lighting myself on fire).

Just going to say, before I get crucified; that this is are MY OPINIONS, I’m personally fine with everything at the moment. Legendary is still reachable, money is still obtainable, dungeons are now fun, fractals are there if I want a fast group. Just wanted to see if anyone else out there was having as much fun as me with the game. Thanks for reading guys.

This tiny Asuran may look like a harmless creature, just trying to spread Wintersday cheer, however this is not the case. His real intentions are to steal all of our children to turn them into toys! How else would he make all of them so fast in such vast amounts? Not working, I can tell you that for a fact! He uses laser Asuran technology to transmogrify our little young-lings into wooden figurines, and then mounts them upon his fireplace made of searing crystals, with a finely placed Charr skin rug underneath. This year we must hold him, we must stop him! Aim your cannons for the sky soldiers! This Wintersday we will defeat the tyrant Tixx!

BONUS DLC POST: Game of the Year Edition
Hello all, it seems like this is the week that Wintersday events will start, I have been waiting for someone to understand what Tixx is planning, yet none have quite gotten it. So I will explain, in detail, what Toymaker Tixx will do to all of us on Wintersday.

You see, Tixx is an Asuran, an evil Asuran at that. What do all evil Asura desire? That’s right, power. How do most evil Asura aquire said power? That’s right, through the relative hypersensitive oxidized potential energy within the hematopoietic fluid crystalinum. Which we all know is the Blood Stone. How did he get this Blood Stone? Simple. He won a poker match with the Murssat, which we all know are invisible people that watch us take showers. He is planning to hold a “Present Giveaway” promising special boxes, and this event will take place in Lion’s Arch. What is planning is to use the Blood Stone to suck all of our souls out, when everyone is in Lions Arch, and then use those souls to gain unlimited power!! This is 100% canon

Is Torch Really That Bad?

in Guardian

Posted by: arrownin.3128

arrownin.3128

I’ve been leveling with a Guardian using Sword/Torch, and to me it seems fine. The sword’s fast attacks proc my Virtue of Justice, and gives me a teleport to get close to my enemies; whereas the torch’s 4 skill passively burns enemies around my guardian! (I rarely use the active throw on the torch skill, I like the AoE burning more than the damage, I may just not understand it yet). To boot, I’ve found my Torch 5 skill to be good for burning big mobs while strafing away from them, or to cure conditions on my allies.

So here’s my question
Is torch really bad? With my experience it’s been pretty good, and I don’t really like focus or shield. I’m going for the legendary torch so I’d like to know more about the torch’s strengths and weaknesses.

Short and simple
They’re a cool concept and all, but as we’ve seen they usually result in massive lag, server crashes, and thousands of errors. They’re also inconvenient for many people, some time zones are at 4:30am when their event starts. Some people have to go to work, or school, or take care of their kids, or whatever it is they do. It’s just not convenient to plan around a event in a game. So in short, instead of one time events, why not all day events, or all weekend events, like how Grenth and Dwyana had their mini-game for 24 hours in Guild Wars 1. This is just my opinion on the matter, and I hope that you all can see where I am coming from.

It sounds like you don’t even like Guild Wars 2, so why are you even here? You must actually really love the game to put so much time into posting how you don’t like it on forums. Oh well, I guess you always have Star Wars: Return of the Lich King to go back to. Btw, I got the full SWTOR experience by playing Mass Effect, without the grind!

1. Because I still hope for Guild Wars 2 to become what it promised to be.

2. Because you white knights keep calling those that dislike the grind in this game a “vocal minority”, forgetting (most likely on purpose) that there are players who quit without saying a word. We may not be the majority, but we sure as hell don’t represent a mere 1% of the population. Time will tell.

Why would you believe a claim that an mmorpg had no grind. Leveling itself is a grind. Gathering materials for crafting is a grind. It sounds like you just bought the game without doing any research into it beforehand.

Oh well that’s sorted then! You say it must be so. So it must be so. Right?

Stating your opinion is fine. But to belittle other peoples’ valid concerns with suggesting their choice of headgear in such a way is immensely discourteous.

You may also like to do a little bit of homework before making strange claims in your posts.

e.g. Nexon are the majority shareholder (14.7%) in NCSoft. NCSoft own ArenaNet. ArenaNet make Guild Wars 2. I hope that the connection is clear to you.

You are aware that NCSoft is the publisher. They don’t own ArenaNet. ArenaNet as a developer has full control of the final say in their game. You should do a little bit of homework before making strange claims in your replies.

You set this up perfectly. There are nutjobs on the prowl with all manner of crazy issues but there are only a relatively small number of “real issues”, which just happen to be your issues. I love this kind of OP because I couldn’t make this stuff up.

The blind man said that the music was too loud whilst the deaf man complained about the strobe lights.

Sure ArenaNet like money, every developer does. But to be honest, you can do a full ori run and get 1g in 30 minutes everyday. Go further and do your dailies and a dungeon or two and you’ll probably land around 2g. Use the 2g on the TP and start buying low and selling high and you’ll see that your money will grow. It is not that hard to make money in this game, if you do this you should have a steady rate of at least (starting at 2g) +5% +2g. Or…

Current Money = m

2g + m*0.05

Every. Day.

Playing the trading post instead of the game, in order to be able to make a decent income? No thank you, I’d rather play neither.

While I agree with most everything here, I have to agree the most with the idea of items being “soulbound” and the DR.
Useless, useless, useless.

Yeah there’s a few design flaws in the game but there’s nothing too serious. Everything can be fixed. =)
