So it took like 1 year for gw2to have a smaller pvp than gw 1 currently has after 8+ years of neglection, such quality.

The guild wars franchise has a cycle that has been around since the beginning.

Game Release with high numbers – game slowly dies – games dead – expansion – game explodes – game slowly dies – games dead – repeat

With this trend it is obvious that the weakness is maintaining the numbers after the new releases. I personally think the new pvp system will be the solution to that issue much like the fortnightly release is for the pve guys.

A) Skyhammer ‘breakable-pannels’ color change to red when stood on, regardless if player is stealth or not.

*Reason: Visually assist players from stealth pulls

B) Edge of Skyhammer ‘breakable-pannels’ glow red when the pannels are shattered.

*Reason: Visually assist players from accidental falls

C) Instead of falling to the ground, players now fall into a vortex and are hit by ‘shrapnel’ during the fall taking a 40% hp loss. If the player survives the shrapnel they are teleported to their home base without being classed as a kill and with no rez timer.

*Reason: Being knocked off the map is currently ‘op’ – so to speak. Not only are you hit with insta death + cost your team 5 points + rez timer wait & chances are you will lose the point.

To ‘nerf’ this function surviving the fall now means you bypass death saving 5 points and putting you straight back into the game.

The damage from the fall is requied to stop players exploiting the function by jumping off the edge if they are losing a fight.

D) The ‘hammer’ no longer knocks players down but instead causes 1/4sec (example) daze.

*Reason: You can’t dodge it and it does a great deal of damage so this is a simple nerf to give players a fighting chance. Also being knocked down is just flat out annoying.

E) The ‘hammer’ no longer instantly breaks panels but it does active them as if someone had stood on them.

tldr: minor skyhammer ‘nerfs’ to bring the map inline with others and take out the frustration without affecting the unique mechanics the map offers.

I’m going to open myself up to an onslaught here but Allie actually has done A LOT for this game and I’m 100% sure Grouch will say the same.

Allie was actually one of the biggest reasons Guild Wars 2 got to go to PAX and put in a hell of a lot of work to pull it off. That was just a small example of what she has done, she may not post as often or be a wordsmith on the forums but she puts in massive hours and a lot of heart into this community. Unfortunately she just can’t talk about all the work that goes on.

Now in saying that, I believe Grouch is an equal asset in the role as well, he is good friends with many PvPers and deeply connected to PvP community. The great thing about Grouch is you don’t have to pay him for this role for him to commit an extensive amount of time into it, he does it for love regardless and I’m certain we will continue to frequently see him.

To summarize, I think it’s great Allie is back as Grouch & Allie will make a hell of a team and increase resources in the PvP sector.

inb4 complaints about pax – at least it happened & it was a small stepping stone or ‘trial’ if you will.

With traps being revamped with more fields that statement hopefully won’t be true for much longer

but it’s the most fun possible in PvP in my opinion. #swordlove

Warhorn has been a blast finisher for ages. Like… a year or something.

Great concept, but I think people would be really angry if devs worked on skins before they fix the mechanics. Even if they are different departments. But this could be incentive to have them fixed for sure.

Exactly the same! Well, expect for the different, runes, traits, pets, weapons, amulet, combat style and elite.

lol jokes aside the best way I describe this build is a weirdly wonderful mix between engy bomb kit and Crank.

The entire dynamic changes when you don’t throw traps and have two mele main hands and on top of this it’s a hybrid build rather than pure condi – which is the best way of taking out bunkers. The amulet leaves you low on defense but the chain of evades, runes and high pressure work together to protect you.

Anyway, I suggest you give the the build a try and see for yourself!

The build is condi, raw damage hybrid. Take note of the sigils, and weapon damage with the massive crit output with RaO and Wh, combined with poison tanks aren’t an issue.

Noobs ruined Hot-join Game-play Experience

Ideas:
1) Arena should segregate hot-join players in term of their range of levels.
Example, 0-15. 16-29,30-40,40-80
No fun for noobs either if all they get is being slaughtered by higher rank players in hot-join. Arena, you don’t put a cat with a bunch of huge raging fighting lions in the same cage don’t you?

2)Noobs can enter higher rank game as a viewer instead. To learn, if they wish to.

At the moment, yeah, noobs ruined hot-join pvp game play experience, either for themself, or for veteran players.

Obviously good idea in theory but we can’t split the player base any further at the moment.

let’s be honest guys, there are some classes that deserves a particular attention in this balance patch. Above all I would say Elementalist and Ranger: stop nerfing them and give them possibilities for different builds because, by now, these are two very limited classes.

Thank you! but… remember all new sigils and amulets will massively impact our rangers and I personally think Rangers are going to be one the main beneficiaries as Anet seem to be focusing on strengthening support builds and we (rangers) have an abundance of potential support builds that only lack a new ammy :-) Here’s to high hopes!

Rather than a new weapon for ranger, I want a ‘Morph Kit’ (Druid Style). allows you to morph into a clone of your pet and increases both of your damage by 150%.

If it has to be a weapon, give rangers the hammer back. Thumpers were so much fun!

Please have everyone start on EQUAL FOOTING.

A day 1 player MUST have the same capabilities as a 2 yr player.

In which game has this been the case?

I like the idea of unlocks as it’s rewarding and shows progression. The unfortunate thing is this is only ideal in a dream world were all builds are balanced and not having access to few builds doesn’t hurt that bad.

On another note if these new skills require a high skill cap then it’s going to make life for a new player a lot easier because they are limited to skills that will ease them into the game. One of the biggest issues in this game in my perspective is it can’t hold the newbies.

For me it’s also opened my eye to some pve were getting skill points is extremely quick and easy so new players would first learn their class mechanics at least to some degree before jumping into our solo queues with r1.

I would love to see a removal of vigor and energy runes, but maybe bump dodge rolls up to three instead of two.

I say this because in theory you want to time or count your opponents dodge rolls to skillfully blow your cooldowns but in the current state it is far to RNG.

As the title says, I would like for the spvp gold rewards to be made retroactive, or for the new spvp vendor’s gold costs to be abolished.

I have spent around 500 hours in spvp which is a lot for me, but the problem is this was all pre patch; now I have hundreds-of-thousands of Glory but because I only ever played spvp I have no gold whatsoever.

I would very much like to take advantage of the new vendor that allows you to actually put your Glory to efficient use, but this would mean grinding spvp all over again for gold, and to be perfectly honest I am on a bit of a break from the game for now due to being burnt out, but I absolutely love Guild Wars 2 and I will be returning after a small break.

This leads me onto my main issue; I don’t want to play the game right now, but if I do not, all my Glory will be wiped in an upcoming patch and I will lose hundreds of hours of game-play.

Please make the gold rewards retroactive or remove the gold cost.

A) Keep things as they are. You annoy a few but please the majority.
B) You add future vendors. Please the remaining few.
C) Create an automatic “glory to gold” conversion. – Greatly annoy the majority who just dumped all their glory.

Anet aren’t silly, the logically option would be B and they have mentioned time and time again EVERYONE will get full notice before glory goes and that it is highly likely it will be around for some months yet.

To summarize, you have a reasonable concern but there is equal reason not to worry, as the future option of other glory vendors is highly likely.

Guild Wars 1 pvp was so much fun, mang, even the hotjoin was epic with 3 groups of 4 vs 3 groups of 4 (all spawning in different areas of the map) was so awesome!

But I was a minority that enjoyed gw1 pvp, I suppose that is the no1 reason they want to design something similar but different?

I just want to reinstate that guys it’s ok! people didn’t quit because of your pvp game types, it was because they couldn’t jump! :P

Following and playing guild wars 1 since release has shown me that the guild wars franchise naturally dies then an expansion comes out and hundreds of thousands flock back. Regardless of what has been said about expansions being made I know this will happen again as expansions go hand in hand with ‘a new leaf’ advertising campaign. In conclusion, I would rather have free to play with 1 time fee expansions so I don’t have to pay during the dead phase..

PvP is a very active part of this game as seen in my screenie.

I love how you’ve cut out the time on the minimap. If you’re posting from Europe (+0 GMT in the UK for me) this post was at 2AM. Nobody generally PvP’s after Midnight in Europe (from my experience). Try and argue your point with some validity next time

You no longer need to be in the mists to join pvp games so the hotm is useless unless your changing your build therefore hotm population is in inaccurate representation of the pvp population.

I’m strictly a PvE player, and twice I’ve had skills rendered virtually useless by changes made for the sake of PvP. The first instance was Hunter’s Shot on Ranger, the second was Unsteady Ground on Elementalist.

With Hunter’s Shot, 10 stacks of Vulnerability was a great opener for some very nice burst against tough enemies. As a Ranger with a longbow, a pet, a Knock Back, and an aoe Cripple, Stealth essentially a wasted slot on my static skillbar. I understand why a PvP Ranger would want it, but for PvE it’s virtually useless.

With Unsteady Ground, Cripple (especially with +Condition Duration gear/food) was great against Veterans and Champions that took longer to kill. That’s been replaced with a wall that blocks targets. That wall is useless against trash mobs since they die so quickly, and it’s useless against Champions since they can simply walk right through it. I understand why a PvP Elementalist would want a wall blocking movement, but for PvE it’s virtually useless.

Remember, we can’t chance our weapon skills; we’re locked into whatever five skills you see fit to give us. This means that when you change a skill to make it useless for PvP, you might be doing so at the expense of those of us who don’t PvP. Short of giving us the flexibility to customize our weapon skills (something I’d very much be in favor of), you’ve got to strive to give us skill changes that will be useful in all areas of the game. As the two above examples illustrate, that’s not something I feel you’ve done well to this point.

Spvp and PvE are seperate game model’s and are balanced seperately as well..

If a change or nerf comes to your PvE its because it was meant for PvE and is supposed to affect it thus.

The pvp nerfs and buffs are also stated in the patch notes with a tag usually with pvp in parenthesis explaining that it is only for spvp.

In an ideal world yes, but unfortunately its best design to try to keep skills universal other wise they end up having to balance twice the amount of skills which they don’t have resources for currently.

since everyone is saying how overpowered warrior is, i decided to send my warrior into solo arena to check out how he will fare.

i have not done any solo arena since the reset so my MMR must be default.

anyway, after a few minutes, a game came, it was 5 vs 5 on temple of the silent storm. whee!

red team 243 – 501 blue team
41 thief 80 – 190 guardian 9
11 engi 70 – 180 mesmer 16
12 ele 55 – 175 warrior (me) 32
9 ele 40 – 145 mesmer 19
15 ele 20 – 120 thief 7

will play more solo arena and see what i get.

the scores was kinda close at start, around 125 vs 125 like that, but then i think they gave up half way.

Judging an ENTIRE game mode from one match? You need a break from forums mang your going crazy :P

Someone on the WvW forums came up with a really great idea to breath new life into this game. If they could introduce a new sPvP map based off MOBA games like Smite did, you’d probably have a ton of people giving it a shot.

Guild/Player housing is also high on the list of wants for a game like this.

Uh…. What’s wrong with the axe?

Clunky, spilt axe doesn’t about face and it could use a slight raw damage increase

Why would axe need to about face when no other ranged attack does? Also split axe gives a 100% uptime on 5 stacks of bleeding, it doesn’t really need a damage buff….

You need to change your pet to a cat or dog. Also you need to turn on fast casting in the interface. Try to save your dodge rolls and drop the axe for a shortbow till it’s fixed.

Wolf/River Drake is a very staple pet selection for the PvP environment. Fast Casting is a preference and not mandatory, as not everybody uses the same gaming setup, and everybody has a different comfort level. And Axe/Dagger is a much more effective weaponset than a shortbow at the cost of not being able to mindlessly pew pew at range.

In theory the drake is a great pet! But in practicality any skilled opponent knows that all you need to do is go behind a river drake to avoid all damage & it has an uncontrollable blast finisher? yew! As for the shortbow it is a means of staying out of the cluster kitten and avoiding random condis on you. Its a defensive measure with very good interrupt and can stack bleeds better than anything in this game IF you position yourself properly. Take a situation where you take 1-2 immobilizes for example, he’s left with 1 dagger skill whereas the bow will about face and be able to avoid for longer + interrupt.

While I can see the reasoning that leads you to make these suggestions, saying any option is better than another option between the way Sol is playing and what you are suggesting he changes wouldn’t be justified.

Anywho, great vid Sol, I may have to steal this setup, even though it is much less forgiving than what my preference usually is (still looks to have better survival ability than the standard bomb/nade engi build though).

I’m sure you’d love to see how I’d re-make Ranger spirits.

Maybe so but I would much prefer to see your suggestions for balancing literally ANY other ranger build. Spirits have left a bad taste

I would really like to play like my old ranger and since interrupts are pretty RNG now without cast bars and trying to watch Asurans can we get a variant of the GW1 mesmer Guilt as an interrupt for our rangers.

Description of GW1 ‘Guilt’: Hex Spell. (6 seconds.) Target foe’s next spell fails and you steal 5…12…14 Energy.

Interrupt rangers were just so fun and rewarding.

p.s. don’t forget the kangaroo pet you promised me
