I would suggest just reducing the range so it doesn’t fly past your opponent so far.

That would harm the skill’s AoE capability, and would be a nerf in PvE. Though this would be ok with me.

I don’t want to reduce the AoE, just the throw. I suppose this fix still doesn’t solve the issue completely though because of our trait that extends our offhand range nerfs this skill even further.

We need to get rid of torment not add more to the game. Disregarding pets the only poisen we have is in 1 trap and short bow. Keep the poisen on this weapon for power builds.

You forgot the sword! Condi Rangers most commonly use sword and shortbow, and will at least have one of those, hence they will always have at least one low cd poison applying skill.

I did! But with all the condi cleanse in this game 1 poison still isn’t enough

The greatsword is one of the funnest weapons in the game and the reason the dps is low is because it is a cleave weapon. I would like to see a stack of 5 bleeds added back to maul though along side the vulnerability so we can run some diverse builds. Counterattack should be adjusted so it doesn’t knock back AI in PvP. The other change I would prefer is swoop removing cripple and chilled and immobilize.

yeah swoop should definitely remove movement-impairing conditions. I really hate the Ranger’s Greatsword and I don’t enjoy playing it but that’s just my taste.

yeah maybe 30 seconds, but it should be AoE so you can get players out of stealth while they are in stealth, at the moment you have to time it perfectly to actually interrupt a stealth attempt or just use it before they stealth which is not reliable enough.

Rather than guessing when my opponent is going to stealth I get them to about 25% hp then use it. That way regardless of them trying to stealth or not they are going to drop. – Also, pet swap wolf fear already pulls them out of stealth, isn’t that enough?

I would personally like to see the cd slightly increased and make it a very short smoke field so we can blast it with warhorn etc.

That would be nice but this shout doesn’t make any sense, I find myself telling my pet to not move and then calling it back to me every 12 seconds. Imagine a person actually behaving like this with his dog, it makes absolute no sense.

It might not make sense at the moment but I’m sure with some minor buffs this could be good in a different game mode while sniping. Especially if we get a way to obtain pet buffs in the future.

I’d rather it break immobilize

You’re right it should break immobilize. But not instead, because it also inflicts damage so the evasion of this skill can be interrupted by certain skills like engi’s shield #4 or ele’s shocking aura.
I think it should do both.

That is a fair enough statement but interrupting it provides counter play, much like if it were to break imbo it’s counter-play. Not being able to stop to it would be teetering on OP.

I’m probably opening myself up to some interesting suggestions, but imagine you’re in-charge of creating the ladder/season system.

  • How would you design it?

8v8 3 lane Guild Wars. – So many ideas but the main reason is I would love to see games pushed into mini 2v2 3v3 for an intense match with each lane as equally important.

Add the spice: As each match waits to start your team can pick 1 spirit hero to help them (Majority wins vote).

Some examples would be:

Spirit of Balthazar: If the enemy team gains a 150 point lead your team gains a 1 minute fury buff.

Spirit of Dwayna: If your entire team simultaneously dies you are all resurrected with 10% health.

These are just some random examples but think they could be what helps give that ‘on the edge of your seat’ game play and put an end to the massive point gap matches.

  • How would you incentivize teams to stay together?

1) Simply put; Add guild halls, the first one costing a large amount of gold, or glory etc and additional ones requiring X games won or other missions to unlock as a group.

2) Since you can’t do capes I’m going to suggest a rework of the ‘guild armor’ namely the chest piece. Make it look kitten hot and since every color is already taken up have different color slight ‘glows’ for the edging of the armor. – Furthermore to join the guild wars queue your full team must be repping the same guild. All players that load into a tournament are seen with the guild chest piece on automatically with there current armor runes.

  • Would you penalize them for splitting?

You unlock NPCs in the guild halls that only your account can see. By leaving a guild you lose all of those NPCs and have to start again. If you are kicked from a guild you lose only half of your NPCs.

Aside from this after having to work so hard as a group to build up your guild halls your already being penalized if you split.

  • What types of rewards would you include for each ‘division’ on the ladder?

Note: I’m talking about futures seasons/ladders, not the current system.

Battlefield 4 has a great way of keep casuals and the hardcore highly interested and the great news is you already have the data.

I would like to see rankings from ladders divided into divisions.

I.e. *R1 – R100 (Na + Eu) – Division 1 World Team Arena
*R101 – R500 (Na + Eu) – Division 2 World Team Arena
*R500 – R2000 (Na + Eu) – Division 3 World Team Arena

and so on…

With this even a casual Div 3 looks better than say the current number you get like 82% as an example. And the top players get to see a number 1 which is always nice

You could also use the same method for showing off other things such as

*Division 3 World Kill Death Ratio or

  • Division 2 World Ranger Tournaments Won

For the hard core I would like to see a proper tournament style ladder with guild names rather than players.

  • Of-Hand Axe:
    “Path of Scars” misses the pulling part 50% of the times. The first part of this skill should either knockdown or immobilize the target so it could actually pull as intended.

I would suggest just reducing the range so it doesn’t fly past your opponent so far.

“Whirling Defense” is ok-ish, it should deal about 10%-20% more damage considering how long you have to stand still and cast it (5 seconds).

  • Dagger:
    “Stalker’s Strike”, Rangers have enough access to poison without it. This skill should apply torment or blindness instead. These conditions are more “Stalkery” than poison.

We need to get rid of torment not add more to the game. Disregarding pets the only poisen we have is in 1 trap and short bow. Keep the poisen on this weapon for power builds.

“Crippling Talon” is fine as it is.

  • Warhorn:
    “Hunter’s Call” should inflict 2 seconds of blindness per second, resulting in a maximum duration of 12 seconds of blindness. This change will make this skill a lot more useful and add more utility to any Ranger build. This actually makes sense considering a swarm of hawks are pecking the head of the target!, this skills simply demands to inflict blindness.

“Call of the Wild” is nice since it became a blast finisher.

  • Torch:
    “Throw Torch” is a pretty great skill, nice damage and low cd.

“Bonfire” has to be traited with “Off-hand Training” in order to be effective. A base radius of 120 is really not impressive. It should be 180-200.

Would be OP, the area of affect is fine as is and very strong. Just need to use skill to keep your opponent in it.

  • Longbow & Greatsword
    Both suffer from the same problem, too slow and too weak. A damage boost to the longbow would be enough to make it viable (at least +30% to every skill).

WAYYYYYYYYYY TO OP, the problem isn’t the raw dps it’s the lack of fury or sustained poison in power builds VS the risk you take when you are power

None of the Greatsword’s weapon skills are reliable enough, auto attack should be stronger. a rework is needed for the Greatsword though I don’t have any ideas for it.

  • Axe
    This is the “meh” weapon of rangers in PvP. If the auto attack would be stronger than it would be vaible to use it on a power build with the “Honed Axes” trait (+10% crit. damage while using an Axe in mainhand)

Auto attack needs to be stronger and splitblade needs to turn your character to your target on skill use like poison volley.

2. “Sic ’em” should have a 25 seconds cd instead of 40. And should apply “Revealed” as AoE without the need to have a target. This way it can counter “Shadow Refuge” and “Mass invisibility”

30 seconds rather than 25 or it can be OP and revealed shouldn’t be aoe that is a horrible idea <3

3. “Guard” should be completely deleted from the game and be replaced by another low cd shout.

I would personally like to see the cd slightly increased and make it a very short smoke field so we can blast it with warhorn etc.

This skill should be reworked like warrior’s “Stomp” skill. It should apply stability for the duration of the skill.

You realize that 10% of a potential 1400 damage shot is 140? that, being realistic, you will not get 10+ shots in that get the damage bonus unless you are chasing someone or playing PvE?

1. I play pvp.
2. Im complaining because you used to be able to keep 100% endurance up 90% of the time on a power build before the nerf
3. Rapid fire alone does 13 hits, 13 × 140 = 1820 and thats at least heavy to medium target. Yea so they might dodge 2-3? but that is one skill. To kill in pvp you hit ppl 50+ times when they are a tank.
4. 1 condi is so easy to remove.. then 0 dmg

Now one of the biggest complaints for ranger are the pets and that our dps is reduced due to the hamstrung pet system, I’m not going to push this point though because I don’t think we aren’t as hamstrung as much as we are made out to be, although I would like to control all pet skills.

Certain pets do need to be addressed to open up build diversity as well:

Spiders – Pvp Only – Spiders now attack 30% faster but condition duration reduced by 30%

Hyena – Howl of the pack cast time reduced to 3/4 sec

Jungle Stalker – Now applies might at the start of the cast rather than 15 years later

Boar – Now only summons a skull

Pink Moa – Dazing Screech now an aoe

Black Moa – Dazing Screech now an aoe

Brown Bear – Now removes 3 conditions

Murellow – Poison Cloud – Now Smoke Cloud – Duration reduced to 5 seconds

General – Pets f2 abilities are no longer cancelled from pressing f2 twice – You cant accidentally press f2

As per request I have been asked to mention a few ranger specifics. To start with I’ll sub in a post I just released in the ranger section



Tittle: The Hidden Nerf

I love the idea of having to skillfully dodge I truly do, but nerfing Natural Vigor has greatly affected other once good traits. It seems counter intuitive to realize the power ranger needs a buff then indirectly nerf the traits those builds use.

Adding extra long bow damage and greatsword fury were a few small and steady steps in the right direction but the following nerfs ensued with the Natural Vigor Nerf:

Steady Focus (Marksmanship I) – We can’t dodge roll then quickly gain back that 10% dps which is a crucial power build trait and the only good trait (in this slot) for power builds.

Evasive Purity – (Nature Magic VIII) – The only alternate instead of dumping 30 points into wilderness survival for empathetic bond. Again this skill requires a lot of dodge rolls to remove all the poison this game throws around.

My suggestions would be:

Steady Focus – Damage increase reduced to 7%. Required vigor reduced to 50%
Evasive Purity – Removes poison and blind on dodge & immune to poison and blind for 1-2 second/s.


It’s not that power builds aren’t viable, the problem is the risk vs reward is out of balance due to the room for error being almost nill. Our damage is great but we are pigeonholed into specific traits and utilities and often weapons limiting our build diversity and defensive capability.

You need to understand that power rangers can’t roll soldiers amulet. It seems like something is missing, we have traits that make our next attack guarantee a critical hit but there are no big hits on any weapon expect our defensive greatsword. To kill with a power build you need maintained dps and / or a lot of poisen. – A suggestion has been to change rapid fire from multiple shots to a charged shot to allow build diversity but I guess the warrior is the greater ranger here.

During the 2-3 days that longbow bug was around we had constant fury up. Now this was OP but it showed a definite way to balance the risk vs reward situation. I would implement a new way to gain fury with the longbow WITHOUT having to be hit first. Being pigeon holed into warhorn or red moa just doesn’t cut it.

Might as well go into detail:

Taking red moa over any decent spvp pet means you lose 1-2 CC’s and a hell of a lot of dps. It’s like saying: “If I give you $10 can you give me $3”.

The warhorn means you a) Can’t roll duel bows and with a highly glass build your trying to avoid being in the aoe cluster kitten. b) Can’t take the poison required for bunkers and the dodge provided for survivability. c) Warhorn 4 is so broken and anet seem to refuse to fix, you can LOS the birds wtf… Fury fixed in 2 days birds broken for 486..


I’ve been playing around with trap builds for a hybrib ranger (Power/Condi Balance) and have found that traps can be played on a higher skill level while simultaneously opening up build diversity with a few small changes.

Trappers Expertise moved to grand-master trait
Trap Potency Moved to master trait

(Test this swap if it is sufficient then ignore next change)

Trap cast time reduced to 1/4 sec from 1/2 a sec – Trappers Expertise increases cast time to 1/2 a second because you need to pack up the trap and throw it compared to laying it.

The idea is to be jumping in and out with mele weapons or playing the opponent into your traps. Will post a short clip later.


I want to run them on a power build as I think this would make for a better experience.

Spirts are now immune to AOE but health has been greatly reduced. – Controversy , k go!

You are lucky there is two other adept minor traits to choose from.
Both Keen Edge and Predators Instinct is very good traits.
As for Evasive Purity – that one was hit hard. I suggested that they reduced the ICD to 7 seconds during the preview thread, but my suggestion/concern seems to have been overlooked

Keen edge isn’t viable for power which is what I’m referring to

Predators instinct should be a minor trait. If it’s going to stay were it is it needs something more as most builds already have cripple.

Yes, let’s nerf one of the only viable builds ranger has left into the ground and then not offer any buffs to any other areas of their class. Good idea.

well swift PAW seeing your a ranger, mabye you should play traps or stick with spirits because it will still work, it just wont be extremely strong

Firstly I would like to thank Swiftpaw for being the only person to comment on the ranger. And Mike, have you ever played spirits? If they could insta kill with dev commands I still wouldn’t play them as they are the definition of boring (in their current state).

Traps aren’t bad but other classes do it better. TBH we have extremely fun weapons that have been underwhelming for far too long. And the axe is confused with itself, I think it got lost on its way to another game.

TLDR: Swift I agree it sucks never seeing great threads like these contain insightful ranger buffs (& I’m not going to provide any here as the fixes we need haven’t been touched in this post) but well done to Bear for his knowledge on each class and the stir this thread has caused.

Strengths – Extremely High Mobility, use this build to turn the tide in a group fight by unleashing on an unsuspecting victim or 2. Highly effective against downed and rezzing opponents. The mobility allows you to decap far and rejoin the group fight. Keep an eye on the minimap.

Weakness – 1v1 situations 80% of the time. The current meta is a tank / condi so AS SOON AS your focused run off the healing sig will keep you alive and then you can run back and pop off a burst

Notes: Keep another class ‘tournament ready’ encase 3+ members hard counter you. Never pop your utility signet or heal signet. NEVER USE YOUR f1 SKILLS, maintain endurance

Build By Stodz not ME – For a person just starting out on a new class this is extremely easy to pick and play and great fun while you adjust.

Strengths – BURST, you can kill a player before they realize they are being hit and finally take out those pesky thieves! – Can win most 1v1 situations and great as a back point alternate that rains a hail of fire on mid after securing home point. The arrows pierce targets taking out AI like a champ. NO SPIRITS YEWW

Weaknessess – Low Mobility, HIGH skill cap, Nill room for error, LB shots easy are interrupted and require you to aim your character in the right direction. To win a fight on point VS tank condi builds you have to leave the point and gain some range.

Notes: Rapid fire is extremely good for following and hitting stealthed targets. Auto at max distance is 2k + (3k when proccing the rune) which means runners are dunners (yep just said that). Use sick em when your opponent is at approx 25% to guarantee a kill. – Used this build to get to top 50 Team Queue. When a tanky target is low use the short bow with quickening zeph to burst down once at low health rather than longbow. This build is great for the player looking a for a challenge and high risk / reward. STILL NO SPIRITS YEWWW

Edit: The ranger build is better in team queue than solo as your members will rotate home if your engaged so you can leave the point and not sacrifice yourself. Use the warrior build intelligently, if you already have enough of your players to guarantee a win in the fight run off and back cap.

The damage is negligible and I’d like to see it be replaced with the ability to cleanse immob, cripple, and chill.

Now that would be an idea I could get behind. I never understood why it had damage in the first place when your goal was to gtfo. That measley little love pat from it makes no difference. Swapping it for the 3 soft cc condis cleanse makes a whole lot more sense.

when your internet is broken and you have tons DCs than only YOU can fix this and not the players in your team. dont join competive paly when you cant play. simple

It doesn’t happen all the time. I normally have decent internet. On some days i’d get lag and get error 7 out of nowhere. I dced out of a game early after reset. Then two times about few hours ago for roughly 10 – 20 minutes.

Try to monitor and find the specific reason for the DC. 1 issue off the top of my head might be that your being DC’d during your ISP’s peak hour. Pretend your issue isn’t gw2 related and type your issues including your ISPs name into google and I bet you find a solution or at least a reason.

Edit: If your connected wirelessly, check if a large magnet is near either of your connections. I had an issue with a SUB disturbing the connection and DC’ing me.

Honestly, I understand your pain but without severe punishment there will be no stopping the farmers.

Although, I do believe that with this negative reinforcement needs to be positive reinforcement & that is something that Anet already seem to have set as high priority and already working on.

But lets be serious here, I’m from Aus and I don’t DC so kitten knows why you do?

GW2 has a very abundant amount of people who occasionally lag and dc.

It can happen to anyone. 2 days is ridiculous.

If it’s regular why don’t you fix your computer, lower your setting &/or call your provider? I can assure you it’s not the games fault and thus you can’t blame the game when it’s an external issue.

I’ve been trying to fix it for a while. The dishonorable duration is my issue thank you.

Of course it’s your issue, but its external of GW2. For example, I had fraps running while I had the new Team Speak 3 addon running and it was crashing my game. I can’t go on the gw2 forums and whinge I had to sort out that external issue.

2 days is ridiculous indeed, even I miss out on some matches because I forgot I was que’d, mistakes happen. You should get punished quicker with the dishonour system but only for a couple hours at max.

Your costing 4 other people who ARE sitting around during that same waiting period because you forget? Why should they lose rank over your memory? Not saying that it isn’t human BUT Isnt it a surefire way of stopping you from forgetting with a 2 day ban?

The thing that makes me positive on this front is Anet hired Grouch who lives for the fans (stream). & his input (at least in this field) will be highly regarded and get us on the path of glory.

How anet handle's problems! weak!

So i recently switched from EU to NA servers and apparently your TPvP reward chests bug out if you do this.
I,m getting no reward chests after a tpvp win and according to another forum page
this can only be solved by winning the same amount of tourny’s on NA again before i start getting them again.
So in uther words, i need to win 1k+ macthes again! O_O
And ofcourse i don’t want to do this so i wrote a few support tickets to anet, and afetr sending a few i finnaly got a “non bot” respond wish littarly tells me "sorry we cant help you, just keep reporting buggs and sorry we cant give you a refund.
Realy anet? Thats how you fix problems?

actually my guild has a drinking night every thurday(friday in australia). usually in wvw, but we go spvp aswell and it is hillarious. we got ts rulez that change every week. like u say certain words=drink or u swear=drink, u fall to your death=drink(gets u drunk quickly in skyhammer XD), in wvw we had times where the loot was responsible for drinks like pirate armor drops u would have to yell yarr and drink…
funniest one was the song drinking night where whenever u heard the song:“u cant touch this” u had to dance with your character the last 2 in the group had to drink and “ice ice baby” u had to sit…in wvw its funny whe the enemy zerg expects u to rush in the keep and all of the sudden everyone stops and starts dancing XD. in spvp when u are drunk its still a lot of fun.:-)

7000 seems excessive. I think if you accounted for players who actively participated in the past week the number would be much less. Then if you removed players who only joined for the daily the number would only have 3 digits. HOWEVER, the numbers are steadily on the rise and the new communication from Anet is excellent. With a high rate of Anet posts, detailed blogs and the pvp specific streams the player confidence is steadily increasing and thus bringing old friends/players back from word of mouth and vods alone.

Anet are on the move and will be a steadily growing power house in the next six months to a year. The finer wrinkles have been ironed out (so to speak) and the serious stuff can now be worked on in force. With the new gold system coming to town some serious bucks can be made from the PvP community (which I welcome, as most of us do) who will/ have been ready to pour in the cash to support the game regardless.

TLDR: Yes, we may currently be low in numbers but we as a community are united in the belief of the games potential. With new leadership and seemingly new direction I strongly believe we have a LOT to look forward to over the next 6 months / 1 year.

Mesmer Moa skill

It would be nice if you could go to an npc in the HOTM that moas you (& that’s it) so new players can get used to the moa skill bar.

The NPC mesmer casts it.

Great show last ep!

1) 2v2 and 3v3 obviously aren’t hard to implement, but there is a reason we don’t have them. Is it technical issues, resources, not wanting to split community or 2v2 balance issues? It may be none of these but it would do wonders to explain why it isn’t in yet.

2) Up coming game modes, can we expect the gw1 style 4+4+4 vs 4+4+4 at ANY stage?

3) Would you be able to get some skills and balance team on to explain the intended direction for each class in depth.

Will the player base in general be able to spectate team arena matches live without zoning into them like in gw1? I no you want to build up twitch viewership, but I would imagine this could close skill gaps dramtically.

There were so many ways they could have made healers interesting without removing them. And then maybe we wouldn’t have to rely on downed state to add depth.

I would say (at least in my circle of friends) that the concept of no holy trinity was amazing! But the actual reality was unfortunate. But again! That’s just my opinion, I want others!))

Wouldn’t it be nice is rapid fire was changed to a charged up single shot. I mean it would take more skill but imagine the potential with Remorseless & Opening Strikes and not having to go down the precision tree.

It would sure make for a high skill cap dps build, but just an idea

Why do my skills get cancelled?

In PvP during quick battle if i want to unleash Rapid Fire or just stealth with my LB my skill gets cancelled and goes on small cd for like 2 seconds. It happens many times but no I am not being dazed or stunned, why? Is Anet purposely trying to trash Ranger?

If the target moves beside or behind you it will cancel, start getting used to adjusting your cam and manually turning your character for these skills. Also, the stealth needs be used with a calculated guess, i’m not going to say skill because its impossible to keep track of dodge rolls etc…

They say ranger has no skill but i’m sure they are either forum trolls or referring to spirits. The longbow actually requires you being awake

spvp combat is soooo good, honestly nothing is better. It alone kept hundreds of people playing during some of the worst months on record. But with this new dec 10th patch, a new direction and seemingly new management the game is picking up and the players confidence is slowly being restored.

I look forward to the next year of Guild Wars 2 that’s for sure!

Also, I am a full blown PvP disciple but every now and then the living world content is reallllly fun and great to jump into even with my low level characters! If your looking for the pve players, that’s were they are (at least for the first few days after new content release)

p.s. I’m not sure what server you are on but the Anvil Rock mists are pretty full since dec 10.

Just to clarify, ranger without the bug has some awesome dps! The problem is, you need fury to keep it constant enough a) To keep up with condi dmg b) To sustain a kill against a bunker. To keep that fury constant you need to do 1 of two things, 1) Take warhorn, which wastes 2 slots mainly for fury and your forced into taking a sword which need to play more defensively so I can’t maintain dps and therefore can’t kill a tank without high risk. 2) Take a red moa which means you sacrifice CC from your pet and 20-30% of your damage, more importantly the pet makes sure some damage is being done even while your CC’d so things like signet warriors can’t get back too much hp.

tldr: As Anet have already mentioned ranger needs more fury which in turn opens up builds and means the power ranger can be more defensive and therefore viable in tPvP.
