They people who don’t want progression reminds of the radical wing of a party. They have such absolute stances that they hurt the party as a whole.
Don’t cave to the “Hardcore Casual” radicals. Anet knows what good for the game.
does no one on this forums play gw1? its just infuse armor >_<
That would be fine, but no of those articles sounds like that.
We have to wait for the official statement and until then we can’t do anything expect showing Arena Net that we won’t be happy if they would add a new tier of gear.
speak for yourself. I would be very happy.
Except you stopped playing after a month like you did TSW and went to WoW. Not to mention all the badmouthing you do about this game.
Gear treadmills is the worst type of content to keep people playing. As it is that’s exactly what they open the doors for with what is said.
Do I know you? I’m still subbed to TSW. What does any of this have to do with me being happy that Anet listened to it community and added progression?
What community your talking about ? Because Guild Wars was always played because it has horizontal progression. No gear progression in team of tiers or better stats ..
If you are talking about wow community .. okey then
What is the #1 complaint about this game? Lack of progression. Ascended armor is the answer to the question. Good for them for listening.
There is enough content for the “hardcore casual” give the rest of us something.
really no, the first complain is lack of endgame, and you can make an endgame when people are ready to reach that end.
now most of us are geared, its time for the challenges! (and if its only for skins, its good enough for me.) The new dungeon is the right thing, not the new tier!
Well I’m happy Anet disagrees with you. Hooray for progression! Now if we could get a 10 man dungeon. These things give guilds a reason to stay.
Game is supposed to be about skins, not gear progression. I guess they are going back on that promise.
Not looking forward to doing this dungeon over and over just to play Wv3 again. No sir, not at all.
You don’t have to unless you want to. Are you so worried that if you don’t have those few percent you can’t compete?

Wow, I finally am so close to finishing off my armor set that I was about to buy some gems and get some fluff items. Now I am reading there might be a gear treadmill?
I’m not going to start ranting until more information is released, but I will say I’m holding onto my cash in the meantime just in case. If I felt like it would be in my best interest to farm another set of gear to stay on an even playing-field in WvW, then that would be the Death Knell for me….too many other great games coming out at the end of this month to put up with that kind of nonsense.
Good thing you caught this update, you can save your gems for the Ascended gear. That’s what I’m doing.
I do not intend to be dramatic with this post but it will certainly come off as dramatic.
If this is indeed an implementation of a kitten gear treadmill…
The day when my current exotic gear is not competitive is the day I am done with GW2. I got value out of it, but Anet will not get anymore of my money.
ofcourse you’ll still be competitive. You might not have “the best” gear though.
Most of us are in support of the upcoming update, just a small minority complaining.
Exactly.
Re-read through this entire thread that consists of close to 900 posts. I think you’ll find that the people in favor are the minority.
Blind assumptions…
This is what the game needs. Anet Please do not listen to the vocal minority of “Hardcore Casuals.”
Most of us are in support of the upcoming update, just a small minority complaining.
Exactly.
I believe I read somewhere that the gear will only be better within the dungeon itself and function as a normal piece of gear outside of the dungeon. (if I can find the post I will edit this)
That’s even worse. LFG for dungeon, must have ascended armor…
How’s that worse? That’s just like Prophecies endgame. Or Factions (must be Weh no Suh) or NF (must have Lightbringer R3 minimum).
This, also If they literally intended for absolutely no gear grinding, they would have started you with max armor, and the only thing you would need to do is find a set you like to looks of.
That wasn’t my quote btw… scroll up.
Sorry, some of you are delusional.
RPGs thrive on progression, and horizontal progression gets old quick.
Exactly. Good move Anet!

LF1M must have 4/6 Ascended
If there will be gear that is even 1 stat point better than exotic gear is currently, ANET has broke with a major promise they made and that will put ANET in a very bad light for me forever. Will ofc stop playing GW2 as a result aswell. Sad to read those things really really sad.
Get over it. Your not the only one who plays this game. Thank you Anet for listening to your community!
I don’t like this idea, either. The main reason why I’m playing gw2 instead of mop is that all max gears have identical stats.
I do. I fully support this move.
All I know right now at this point, is that the freakin blogpost cant come soon enough. Good lord.
They better call in David Axelrod on this one.
I’d rather have Morgan Freeman come in and explain all this new gear business to me. Somehow, everything that’s convoluted suddenly makes sense when Morgan Freeman explains it.
so good. I haven’t laughed that hard in awhile. He taught me all about string theory.
words can’t express +1 to you.

hype it up my friends!
this is GW2!
hahah
Thank you Anet xoxo!
We should be able to use gearscore addons right?
Did you read the post that they will be coming out with a blog post about it today.
And no it’s not the “ONLY” thing you can do, you can be patient and wait and see what is going to happen. THEN make your decision.Jumping the gun on something we all know very little about is silly.
Blogpost is out and has close to zero information. Thanks for nothing, Anet. Still, buffed.de points to an interview with an official who said they introduced teirs so players have someting to work for (I’m paraphrasing). You can keep your head firmly in the sand. I’m just sad they killed the single most appealing aspect of the game. I’ll still play until another game tries to truly ditch teired gear and then hope they will stick to it. But I’m not investing another Euro in this one.
Sigh. It was a fun half year while it lasted.
Stop having your knee jerk reactions to something that could be nothing.
And like poster Lord said… (Not THE Lord!) :P
In gw1 “infused armor” was specifically to address fighting mursaat. The same could be true here, where getting your armor infused (making it ascended) only specifically helps you against a certain type of enemy or in a certain location (i.e. the new dungeon).
//food for thought before you people all lose your mindsStop telling people to stop reacting. after playing a few MMO’s in my day it has been my experience if players don’t stop a bad mechanic from entering the game it takes ages to get it out after its implemented. It is much better to over react and let the devs know what you think of the idea before they implement a potentially bad one. Worst case you are wrong about the feature and it works best case you stop a crappy idea from ruining the game.
I disagree. This is good for the game.
LF2M 3/6 Ascended Gear or better PST, must link items.
LF2M reply 3226 gs inv!
Aaaaand…
…Credit Card information deleted.
LOL you don’t even know the facts yet. kitten
Ist’s the only thing I can do that NCsoft might be even remotely interested in. The only way to voice my Opinion. I’ll encourage players I know (friends & guild) to do the same if they also feel that they don’t want or like the introduction of a gear treadmill.
+1 kudos to you sir lol
I wonder what ilevel Ascended gear is.
Instant EB queues Jade Quarry all day everyday…
20-30 Spvp servers running. Remember when it was 200?
edit – these forums sure are moving slow now-a-days..
(edited by bcbully.7289)
So silly… This post is making it’s way around the forums. With this magical 30% number. Just stop please.
@bcbully “Too bad none of these are mmorpgs…. That’s the problem people thought they were buying an mmorpg…”
For the love of god I don’t know where you people come from.
Vertical gear-progression is not inherent to mmorpg’s
It’s not. It’s not. It’s not.
It’s optional.
Cut the crap. Stop making statements then arguing against them (strawman). No vertical progression? Fine, make a kitten ton of horizontal progression through abilities. Make a kitten ton of cosmetic progression. TSW did all three. To bad the pvp is lacking just as much as GW2’s progression.
As things stand, as you can see from the number one complaint with this game, GW2’s progression is lacking.
Guild Wars 1 didn’t have gear progression past max level…
I wish people stopped comparing GW2 with games like SWTOR, Rift and Aion… Compare it to GW1.
From what I hear GW1 had really good horizontal progression through abilities. This game has none of that. People have said that GW2 is more like those others than GW1.
It cracks me up that Anet chose not to invest in a vertical progression end game system, most likely due to ongoing cost, then marketed it as if they were doing something new.
Swtor was destroyed because of a lack of endgame by the same people who support GW2, and yet swtor had/has more endgame content that GW2.
(edited by bcbully.7289)
That’s just something you’re going to have to live with in this game unfortunately.
It’s incredibly shallow
I don’t get it. At a very minimum you have 15 abilities while in combat (at level 30) with multiple weapon sets, healing, utility, elite skills, special abilities (ie. Mesmers’ shatters; Warrior’s burst skill, etc), plus all them traits. If this feels shallow then I’m only a foot tall.
Turning a blind eye to the reality that not all classes have cohesive builds and many have filler: completely situtional skills and traits that can’t be used in normal combat. It’s not practical to have traits that only apply to certain situations because many players will seldom change their traits between fights.
Anet missed the mark completely with their ability system. Boring ability system equals lack luster combat.
Watch out, this is bait for the white knights!
Maybe, but it’s the reason why many of us put the game down. Nothing to look forward to after level 40 but a bunch of 1% gains and a couple passives.
I’ll just leave this here
“Sure, once your character reaches max level, we’ve created new and interesting ways”
This line is in question.
Can I has endgame in chess where I’d start with 4 queens because I’ve been playing for over 20 years?
Can I has endgame in golf where Tiger Woods starts with a handicap of +5 because he’s one of the best?
Can I has endgame in counter-strike source where I start every round with AWP because I played more than you?
Can I has endgame in DOTA where I start with 3000 gold because I played since aeon of strife?
Can I has endgame in football where Real Madrid has 30 players on the field and use hands because it’s the most successful club?
Or maybe we can actually make competitive games competitive because you’re a good player, not because you played longer. Thanks for not ruining GW2. We’re not playing all other MMOs because they have it wrong.
Too bad none of these are mmorpgs…. That’s the problem people thought they were buying an mmorpg…

Verticle progression would be a start. Hell any progression is better that what’s there now. There isn’t even horizontal progression. There is a sort of cosmetic grind, but even this seems tacked on and very limited.
Because there are no factions. This is a friendly place.
Not this year. Nvidia is working with TSW.
I opened 47 and expected to get “something” related to this event. I got JACK kitten and to be honest I don’t think Anet deserves any of us at customers or fans at this point.
The first thing the patch notes talk about are new items. Which are being dangled in our face and then.. Made impossible to acquire.
Sounds like a carrot on a stick.
I guess the thought nobody would talk about it… Or that fans would spin it as a positive, they figured they had the mojo going.
I wonder how many 13 and 14 year olds are screaming 10 more dollars.
Why call it endgame? Why not call it something else? Apparently, since endgame is anything than it be called anything too. Let’s just rename it to bologna sandwich and say that it can mean anything, at any time and any place. On the bus? That’s bologna sandwich. Doing the dishes? Bologna sandwich. This post is bologna sandwich. My cat is a bologna sandwich.
Why use other words? It’s all bologna sandwich.
bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich bologna sandwich
NCsoft is going to send you a pm and offer you a job in their marketing department.
Why not rename it? They renamed -
Battle Grounds and called them Spvp
The renamed the cash shop and called it the “Trading Post”
Public Quest are now called dynamic events
They changed the idea of gold buying as something sleazy and wrong to something gamers without time do.
They missed a real opportunity without you on their team.
So, what besides horns can I get for Halloween, that doesn't come from mystic chest?

….that does not come from mystic chests?
Any answers would be appreciated
There are no words to describe how dumb that list is.
It’s bad enough you only have access to 15 abilities at a time but when those 15 abilities are uninteresting, recycled abilities you’ll see in any other MMO it gets really boring really quick. The abilities don’t even attempt to be interesting. We’ll take the warrior’s rifle for example:
- Aimed Shot – Small damage and cripples… yay?
- Volley – Pretty much a channeled auto attack that shoots faster… Also in just about every MMO
- Brutal shot – Slightly more damage than an auto attack and makes the target take 5% more damage. Boring standard MMO ability.
- Rifle butt – Knocks back.
You only get 5 abilities on a weapon. This kit is completely uninteresting. Things like cripples and vulnerability should be tied to other interesting abilities. They shouldn’t be abilities all on their own.
This problem isn’t just for the warriors rifle. Its practically for every weapon in the game. I feel like that’s why this games combat feels so stale. Theres not really any original ideas, just a bunch of sub par, one purpose recycled abilities from every other MMO.
I agree. GW2 fans made up some %hit about TSW combat being bad, this is the only game where during a “big boss” event stage I can literally auto attack and afk.
Tie that to the simplest skill system on the market, with weapons like scepter and axe that only have 3 abilities FOREVER, and horn, talisam that only have 2 abilities FOREVER , you get a extremely boring combat system.
If I looked it like a play station or xbox game that you play for a month, then sure.
Was it worth it looking at it like an mmorpg? No, not at all.

Gold buying is wrong period. Even worse for a company to sell it themselves.
Nice write OP.
GW2 is the most casual/non competitive game on the market. After playing for 3 weeks strong and not playing WoW for over a year. MoP seems hardcore compared to what I just left.
edit Wpvp is alive in pandaland too.
>.< OP all the class have all the same stuff. You haven’t noticed? Look a little bit more all classes have about 3 ways of granting 33% speed.
It was a pretty widely-reported story. Here’s an article about it.
Basically, between 2004-2008, WoW cost $200 million to run. This includes all associated costs; server upkeep, GMs, software development including wages, the whole shebang. In that same period, Blizzard made over $440 million during that same time period in box sales alone.
Since then, those upkeep costs have been lowered according to SEC filings. That $15 a month is quite literally free money for execs and shareholders; not a dime of it is needed for the costs most people claim it’s used for.
Hoe come GW2 doesn’t have a customer service line you can call then?
- The build system in GW2 is just different. Although it’s locked while in combat, it’s set up for dynamic change. When you run a dungeon in GW2 you’re likely to be weapon swapping often and changing utility skills in between combat. You trait choices alter your utility skills and the conditions and boons of your weapon skills. The combination of your traits + skill choices is your build… Although I had concerns at first I’ve come to love it.
Yeah your trait choices sure do… The make your boons/conditions:
A) Stronger
or
B) Last longer.
like 10% stronger or 20% longer… Exciting…
