@biofrog: I’d recommend you submit the details via a support ticket, in addition to this post. That increases the likelihood that the QA team gets those important details sooner.

Either that or add this note to one of the existing threads that is already getting attention from ANet:

Cheers, I already did exactly that in the network error thread, since I think it might be the same fault only I could provide the IP which might be causing the error

Looks like this issue is still persisting, as of now there is no update on a fix for this. Best update I have on this is that it looks to be impacting multiple different zones and different megaserver instances.

We are still looking into this issue.

Update: I believe I fixed Silverwastes, and it should be back up and running. There seems to be a steady stream of players flowing into the map now. As for other maps, that will have to wait for a permanently fix, and probably until the morning.

Can you track down whatever server is hosting 10.28.74.160 It’s the IP I receive when trying to port to many different maps, and obviously an internal IP on your network which we are not connected to.
I posted this in https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Wrong-IP-joining-map/

biofrog.1568

Just happened again joining Mount Maelstrom.. Your server is broadcasting the wrong adapter address to connect to. If you’ve multiple or virtual adapters, it’s selecting the wrong one.

I was just able to replicate this three times consecutively, each time would receive 10.28.74.160

Wrong IP joining map

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: biofrog.1568

biofrog.1568

When joining Harathi Hinterlands just 10 minutes ago, I was disconnected upon joining the map (as it seems others were).

Fortunately though, I also run GW2 with the -mapLoadInfo parameter and happened to notice it was an internal network IP it was connecting to! I snapped a screenshot just before the disconnection error popped up. If you work with networks, you likely know the 10.×.×.x as an internal private IP address range, which most definitely will not be the IP of the server to connect to.

Screenshot is attached, where you can see the IP being connected to is 10.28.74.160

Hope this helps to debug the fault!
Oh, after the disconnection, I rejoined and received the normal 64.×.×.x range IP.

It’s called lag, and not just client side but server side. There’s no prediction done in any way, shape or form.

When you use X skill against Y target, even though you don’t see it (other that when the gfx glitch) you are actually running over and attacking the target. With the high movement speed and given our (I’m in West Aus) lag, by the time you are within range of the target you are actually already past it, so the server response is too delayed to put you in the right location.

It always amazes me seeing youtube videos of players with <300 ms pings manage to RtL→Updraft and return BACK to their original position. In my experience, even if RtL doesn’t go past the target, immediately using updraft will always place you on the far side of the target even further away.

n.b. it’s not just RtL. For the longest time I thought the Warriors Rush (GS #5) skill always travelled the full 1200 distance. Only after some time did I realise it is supposed to stop at the target before swinging.

I dunno.. it used to be better, but I believe that was before any mega-servers or map commander tag spam that now slows the entire games responsiveness down significantly.

biofrog.1568

Somewhat side-stepping the topic, I don’t think we will see L.A. back to the levels of player camping outside the bank as it used to be, even if there were various parts of it fixed.

On the other hand, I’m almost certain there will be a new ‘hub’ city in HoT. Most likely, the Golden City of the may-or-may-not-be Mursaat. All it takes is one central new waypoint with all the services around it and you will have people flocking there.

Not to mention, as map explorers have seen, there are very few waypoints in the new HoT areas..

At one point I was reporting people. Then I changed to just blocking. Now after some 500 (or thereabouts) blocked there is simply too much to contend with. I have simply retreated from that avenue of conversation completely.

RNG is a numbers game, right?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: biofrog.1568

biofrog.1568

While it’s all true, RNG is RNG, I feel the OP pain in that sometimes you can play for hours and feel no gains.

I had a good one the other day – Killed Tequatl; yeaah rawwwgh! big dragon killed. Sure you get 1 gold plus you know there will be blues and greens, but you hope for something more.
Success! An exotic item! Aww just a bone fragment (or a spoon, heh). Well I guess I can sell it for some 60ish silver. Might as well salvage it tho since I have a black lion kit handy.
salvages it into 2 mithril…… umm yeah, well that’s a thing.

So every boss has an RNG aspect to the loot and that’s what we have right now. I would like to see added value with non-RNG. Doesn’t have to be much.. say you get a ‘fragment of X’ item whenever you kill a boss, for example, killing Jormag might get you a ‘fragment of corruption’ that you can use say ~20 of to make one of the Corrupted weapons. Even just a guaranteed dropped recipe for the corrupted weapons would be nice.

It doesn’t seem like much, but it does mean a boss event gives you something to look forward to, instead of an almost-nothing.

biofrog.1568

The star is useful if you are consistently generating an excess supply of empyreal fragments. The tree isn’t all that useful. You can get the equivalent of a year’s worth of gifts for around 15g.

Well RNG is RNG – the person who just showed me where Grawnk spawns did have the tree, which I picked up a Gift from and after opening/salvaging it gave me 34 of the Pristine snowflakes alone! Came to 73 silver, just from one tree gift. I do have an excess of emp fragments also.. some 20-ish stacks I think

This is what support told me today

Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars 2 Support Team.
If you made some progress during the Wintersday, you can continue the quest for the missing ornaments and bring back the spirit of Wintersday to those children. They won’t mind how much you take to get the tree decoration back. However, it is not possible to have a fresh start with this collection if you didn’t respond to the children’s call.

Sadly this seems like two very useful items that are ‘lost to the ethers’ if they can’t be added to the Laurel merchant.. They managed to add the Krait Obelisk Shard to the merch tho, and that’s very similar.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

biofrog.1568

As someone who was away for the Wintersday festival, it saddens me that I cannot get the rewards in any other way

I received Orphan Laine’s Letter, which directs me to my Home district. Upon entering though, there is no sign of Grawnk around anywhere (I had someone take me to the spot where he should spawn).

The Wiki Warming Grawnk’s Heart page indicates it should still be possible but I’m fairly certain it is not any more.

Can there be a method for obtaining the rewards, much like the Living Story 1 rewards panel at the Laurel merchant? In particular, it feels like the Wintersday Tree of Generosity and Star of Gratitude are both unbelievably useful items I would make use of daily, though the title is fluff.

In asking via map chat, I received many responses of people in the same situation!

Exploration is fun! That is, it’s something I enjoy that others may not

I’d love to have some form of dungeon crawler built in, such as a huge cave system that just peaks above ground here and there. Not a maze, but just somewhere for us explorers to go peaking around. Throw in a few puzzles and traps, the occasional waypoint to get us back on track.. wonderful!

It doesn’t have to be a frustration event or achievement to do it.. just something that’s fun to look around in and discover occasional loots.
If you want a frustration, add something like Bronze/Silver/Gold times to complete a JP! Failure via mesmer port of course

Necro or ele?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: biofrog.1568

biofrog.1568

In my experience (3500 hours worth) it is much much easier to solo content with a Necro and I would also put both about on par with how fun the game play is. I play a power-well necro, which in PvE solo play is unparalleled in any large group events.

As an ele main character since the beginning, I found it easy enough to level but was actually focusing on conditions back in the early days. Now everything is ‘full zerk’ and levelling an ele like that might be hard to stay alive vs lots of mobs. Only now I would use my ele more in dungeons, but to be honest my necro is far more ‘friendly’ in daily use.

The drawback will be in the late game stages, where dungeons and fractals take main place and you will be considered more desirable if you play an Elementalist. The big events will call for an ele’s spawnable weapons, where a necro you are expected to just do your thing.

So it depends what you are most interested in. Necro will loot-farm better than anything else and keep you alive while doing so. Ele will be more versatile in party-oriented events late game but the annoyance factor of going into down-state a lot might not be your thing.

My personal choice is obvious; play both

Massive lag for me in West Australia right now.

Location(s): Taidha, Megadestroyer, Fire Elemental.
Time and date of incident: 2 PM to 3 PM +8 GMT (6-7 AM server time)
Game World: Sea of Sorrows, current map IP: 64.25.33.71
Brief description of what you’re seeing:
Three world bosses in a row, as soon as the event starts all skills stop working and I get disconnected. After re-logging, any skill activations are taking several seconds.
I have power cycled my adsl modem just to make sure, and received a new IP from my ISP. Last fire elemental attempt I turned all graphics details to lowest possible and the lag was still present.

I must say jumping into the Steam Ogre’s portal was an exercise in brain concepts. When jumping in, I landed.. then lagged back into the air.. then sprung back into the air again.. and again, and again. So much so it hurt my brain
EDIT Contacted my ISP after a few more tests.. confirmed by a local forum that it wasn’t just me.. ISP found had a router going nutso, which they rebooted and all came well again

So the data miners out there discovered (pre-patch) that the game has an Experience Scroll like the one we previously obtained for the birthday events, only it levels you instantly to 60.

Does anyone else feel that we might see this very soon appear in the game, in a somewhat obscure way for the ‘vets’ to bypass the levelling experience so many seem to be arguing about?

Not happy with levelling in the new system? BAM, level 60! Less pain. More happy.

Yep it’s clear as day. If you position yourself perfectly you can still get an occasional hit (with significant damage). Any movement though and it will just miss everything again. It seems to happen if you are on an exactly flat plane at exactly the same height as the boss perhaps.

Note, it doesn’t say ‘Miss’ (ie: I’m not blinded) and it doesn’t say ‘0 damage’, it just outright doesn’t connect with the boss.

This is the Necro’s signature Death Shroud auto-attack skill that still (since the beginning of time!) just never hits the target.

You can stand point blank to a boss like Champion Svanir Shaman or Admiral Taidha Covington with each attack of the skill never connecting, never doing any damage. Yes. I do use Unyielding Blast for the pierce effect also.

Please, this really needs fixing! It’s also infinitely repeatable. To have a skill that for all intensive purposes look like it is working but it does absolutely nothing is very frustrating.

Can we get tabs for the Hero panel?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: biofrog.1568

biofrog.1568

Hi,
This isn’t actually related to the Wardrobe function but the Hero panel instead. We’ve currently got Equipment, Wardrobe and Dyes as separate menu options on the left hand side of the Hero panel, each of which is a click to get in, and a click to get back out.

The proposed feature pack addition is now to add the Outfits, Miniatures and Finishers to this list, giving us 6 items we might want to jump between frequently.

If at all possible, can the UI be changed to include these as permanently visible tabs, be it at the side, top or bottom so people like me can quickly jump between each panel?
I know many people wanted this with the last UI change but with more being added to the Hero panel I feel it would be even more useful now.

So they fix the problem with the blaster, but still leave what I believe is the majority of players with a useless non stacking with older up to level 20 scrolls.

How is it useless? Create a new character.. instant level 20. Brilliant. Non-stacking? oh no, another slot taken. Delete it if you want.

I’d think something like the ability to finish Personal Story would be a higher priority.

If you have after 2 years of playing Guild Wars characters under lvl 20 then you are doing something WRONG!

btw I have ~ 13 scrolls (but I got 1st b-day present multiple times with some of my chars)

Are you kidding me? If anything you should have more characters, making more builds and more diversity. You can create a new character at any time regardless if you were playing 2 years ago or 2 weeks ago.

I have 9 characters, 5 at level 80 and created my most recent only this week, plus 9 experience scrolls in the bank and I still don’t see why you would be whining about something so minor.

I am only just looking into Fractals now so have a long way to go in terms of scale and am looking for some character progression suggestions.

On the plus side, I do already have 5 level 80’s to choose from and would like peoples opinions on which class would be the best to obtain infused gear for and use as my ‘fractal’ character?

  • Elementalist – mostly zerk at the moment with a few Pvt ascended
  • Warrior – 1 exo zerk/strength set, 1 exo Pvt/melandru set, EA/phalanx build atm
  • Engie – full ascended dire set with nightmare runes, maxed condi % and dmg
  • Ranger – exo zerk/ranger runes set, playing GS+S/x melee coz it’s fun
  • Necro – exo assassin/rabid with eagle runes, power/well build atm

All of them have ascended trinkets except for a few earrings.
I would say my favourite in terms of play style are:
engie > ele > necro > war > ranger
(Note, not that I don’t enjoy them all In fact mesmer/guard/thief would be those I enjoy least)

Account bound Birthday Blaster please

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

That makes no sense.. the Birthday Present is for the CHARACTER that reaches 2 years old, not the account. If you made it account bound, then you’re alts are effectively having their birthday present before your birthday.

Besides there will be an abundance of birthday cakes everywhere anyway. There is a problem in that people can troll with them though, which needs to be addressed. Use some expensive food, then have someone birthday-cake you and there goes your expensive food buff.

It seems the cake doesn’t overwrite other food buffs. In fact, if you have another food buff, you can’t get the cake buff.

Yah sorry, I edited that out as I was told in map chat it doesn’t stack and wrongly assumed it then overwrote previous food.. After I did actually try it it seems fine

Make it 300 gold.. fine by me, maybe it will stop people from ABUSING tags by just putting them on anywhere and any time for any reason other than being particularly unhelpful.

Just give me the option to hide all tags. I have no problem with them in WvW but in PvE they are abused, simple as that. In fact the abuse goes one step further, when a player I particularly despise and have actively blocked then puts a tag on in front of me so I can NOT hide his name or get rid of any mention of him.
I blocked him for a reason and I want nothing to do with him in any aspect of the game.

Until that’s done I don’t care if they are free or cost 50,000 gold.

Just let us go straight to the kittening chamber and skip the dialogue for gods sake.

Surviving endless FORCED dribble over and over again is REAL kittening achievement.

I would like to see the Tribal Armour set come back also!

You know, more than anything else in this game, the Wardrobe feature has made me play far more than I expected. The reason is Alt characters – the first thing I do is go into the Wardrobe, create a ‘look’ that I want my Alt to be, then strive to obtain that look.

I’m 100% OK with this change.
I would only ask for one more change – a way to turn all commander tags OFF.
