Read this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-and-PvP-Ascended-Armor-Upgrades

Both the ranked and unranked ascended items upgrade to legendary.

That certainly negates the Rank 1500-2000 requirement, thanks. So the T2 350 ticket version can also be upgraded to legendary.. interesting. I have 2,255 skirmish tickets currently, so by my understanding I could go buy a piece already!

Most player get around 1.5 wvw rank per hour without boosters/guild buff. All of those high rank wvwer (2k rank) have been playing wvw for at least 2hrs every day for 2yrs or more. You can hit 2k rank in a year if you play ~4hr of wvw a day for a year or go hardcore playing 8hrs of wvw a day for 6 months.

Ok cool, I think that corroborates what I’ve been seeing, so it really is just a lot of time spent in WvW.

Anyways the biggest issue will be tickets and you need to play normal wvw to get tickets not Eotm. To upgrade the wvw ascended gear to legendary you also need the wvw legendary insignia(1095 tickets) per armor piece. That going to take awhile for most players.

I see it the other way around though.. If we get 365 tickets per week (post-patch) and each armor piece takes up to 1095+700+350 = 2145 for the coat (being most expensive) then that is 5.8 weeks for the pips required to buy a piece. 6 pieces of armor then being around 35 weeks. Meanwhile as you say, it’s going to take a year (52 weeks) to reach 2k rank when playing 4 hours a day, so it’s more likely the slower requirement is the 2k rank.

Of course you can gate the rank yourself, by playing more than 4 hours a day.. but that’s still a significant time investment

You could also buy WvW ranks directly using laurels (mind you can still do this by buying XP laurel boosters).

Ahh this might be just the ticket I am after! I ran out of WvW XP boosters and Experience Boosters some time ago, but couldn’t find another way of getting them either. I’m currently sitting on 1,190 laurels though!

These, correct? https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Experience_Booster_

Seems the Communial Boost bonfires are dead now (really ANet they were good & fun for everyone.. make them more available!) so I might start burning laurels

The simple answer is that they play more than you. Hours in -> ranks out. People that have more time to play will end up at a higher rank, it’s pretty straightforward.

That’s a lot of game time

For me to get to the diamond chests, before this latest patch, was around 25 hours per week. So to get those higher ranks I guess you really would be doing a 40 hour week in World v World only. Include those who have 8-10k rank, or even 5k+ and you would have been in WvW for 40 hours a week for the last few years!

Hi All,
I see a lot of talk about getting pips for the WvW Skirmish Tickets, but personally I’m constantly surprised by the players who have really high ranks and WXP.

I’ve been using Celebration Boosts, Guild tavern 10% WXP boost and the occasional field XP banner but at best, even with putting in the hours (both before and after patch) to reach the diamond pip chests I’m still only netting around 200 ranks per month.

Was ranking up significantly quicker in Edge of the Mists? I do pretty well every night, tagging plenty, capturing plenty and getting reward tracks too, but I feel for anyone starting out now to try and reach ranks 1500-2000 for the WvW Legendary armor.

@OP: You can try digging up a bunny with the shovel and letting it kill you.

Unfortunately, there was no time to activate any skills or dodge

It annoyed me a lot since I do not have the infinite continue coin, so any lives lost getting to that point feel like they cost a lot more. It was enough to make me quit and take a break anyway. Something as simple as the /gg mechanic would solve it, even though the life would be lost it would at least let us continue.

10 K drinks need roughly 45 to 50 STACKS of gifts. While the JP, if you were good at it delivered the best rate per hour but some of us simply suck at JP. I might be able to complete it once or twice every 1/2 hour session. And that was after 10 hours of no successful runs. If it wasn’t Charrs in trenchcoats or Norns in dresses obscuring my ability to judge where to land during the snowflake run/present hop, the kitten snowman would blow me off once I got across the presents (couldn’t dodge roll, to do JPs it’s one hand on the mouse and one on the space bar) or I get hit by a tiny snowball and then crushed and pushed off the path by a large rolling one. I’m glad all those years of playing platform games on consoles and free time over semester break paid off for some of you but understand you are the exception not the rule if you did over 1000 successful JP runs.
..snip..

A little tip, and if you don’t know about it yet – try using the Action Camera mode in F11 options. It gives you a point/crosshair in front of your character which makes it much clearer to see exactly where you are jumping to.

Might not make a big difference to some, but I find from the popping boxes on it is easier in action cam.

Customer Support has carefully reviewed the data that resulted in the termination of the game account in question. They verified that this account accessed 29 map points in under 60 seconds. It is not possible to accomplish this without the use of a third-party program, the kind of program that is expressly forbidden by our User Agreement and our Rules of Conduct.

Because of these facts, the account termination will not be reversed.

Gaile, I want to comment on something that was happening to me earlier today in the Wintersday JP. I do not know if the person banned in this thread was in the jumping puzzle or not.

I abhor cheating, so I am adamant in saying I am the least likely person to sympathise with anyone who does so. I have also completed the JP MANY times before and today was the first time I saw odd behaviour.

For no conclusive reason I could determine my character in the JP was being randomly ported around the Wintersday Jumping Puzzle map. It happened repeatedly in several specific locations, being when I jumped onto the candy cane ledges and jumped onto the boxes that pop. Nothing was out of the ordinary, just running, jumping then a loading screen and I would be in a different location.

The result would usually end up with me being taken back to the start, but a few occasions it would randomly take me out to map locations I don’t think you could normally access.

I have 3 screenshots which I took at the time I was taken out of the map area, albeit taken on the potato PC I was running on at the time.. If these will help corroborate the issue I will attach them to a post here.

You now have me petrified with your comment of being in “multiple map points in a short amount of time”, since the bug I encountered might represent the same data to the server?

I continued attempting to finish the JP for a short time, maybe 10 minutes before exiting the map in confusion.

Ping spikes are not what you should be looking at. They happen, that’s the nature of the internet. Your every-day playing in good conditions should be the normal situation, so watch your ping around those times.

I know my personal good-condition ping is around 305 milliseconds to the WEST COAST of Australia (honestly, ‘OCX’ does not just mean east coast Australia.. you have NZ, PNG, even Singapore, Thailand, etc etc..). This is high enough to make the current raid content EXTREMELY difficult, not just the very-hard difficulty intended.

However.. I do not want the content to change, only the mechanics. By example, I would implement something like “the raising of Gorseval’s arm” not to give 400ms before he performs his attack but 1000ms instead. How does this change anything? It doesn’t. It might give you 600ms more time to DPS safely, in which case throw in a small amount of damage taken before hand. All that’s needed is SOME indicator with REASONABLE time before each skill impacts. You still need to time your dodge correctly which is simply practice based on your own skill, recognition of the visual indicator and personal latency.

If you have done the Crucible of Eternity dungeon, you know exactly what I am talking about.. The 3 – 2 – 1 – dodge. Because of my latency, the time I DODGE is not the same time YOU dodge, simple as that. My practice has taught me to perform the dodge before you do, thus myself taking into account my latency.

Of course this negates an even better solution. I wonder if it were possible for ANet to put RAID ONLY servers/shards in Australia. It certainly would not be difficult to get 10 players ONLY from Australia into a raid squad.

64 BIT Client Patches Slow

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: biofrog.1568

biofrog.1568

You are not downloading the actual client at 3 KB/sec or any speed. What’s happening is your client is making a request to the server, which is responding with a 404 Not Found error

So basically the 64-bit client has not been uploaded to the content distribution server yet.

The amount of KB/sec you are seeing downloaded is the cumulative 404 error responses you are receiving, none of which corresponds to the actual executable. This the patch might be only 24 MB or so, but if you leave it going at 3 KB/sec and reach 24 MB, you still do not have the patched exe.

There was one on the tp today for 1000g. I can’t check ingame atm, so I’m not sure if it’s still there.

Are you sure?? None of the trading sites show there having been any listed – gw2tp, gw2spidy, etc. Great news if it is! That means there is a chance of getting it some where some how

I’m still inclined to think it is a loot table bug like the accursed Final Rest used to be as mentioned by Zaxares.

I’m positive. I was looking through some of the staff skins in the wardrobe and azimuth stood out, so I tp-ed it and there was one there. I just rechecked the tp and it’s not there anymore.

Yep, thank you! I see there are orders on the TP now, meaning someone has actually received one and put it on there at some point

Now if the person who got it would only speak up and tell us how…

High ping + Adventures

Things never get tested under these kinds of conditions. I was just getting lag spikes in-game for no reason. Given my connection to my ISP and Australian web pages were working fast and smooth, I thought I’d record a video to highlight just what it is like:
https://youtu.be/UNfNsDBcYeE

Most people have no idea just how bad lag breaks the game. It’s atrocious. To be honest, if I were a game reviewer who had to take the gameplay experience at face value and I came across the situation in the video above.. it wouldn’t even be a ‘passing score’.

My only suggestion is ArenaNet implement a kind of handicap system which takes latency into account. Difficult to fine tune, but without that the adventures and many other features in Heart of Thorns are unavoidably broken. When such significant gating relies on success in these (eg: mastery points, gliding, dodging) there’s only frustration to be had in game.

It’s infuriating (and impossible) enough with 300+ ms ping times making some adventures absolutely broken beyond belief. But when we focus intensely on improving and retrying, retrying, retrying, then you decide that content is no longer available.. well let’s just say the moment that dialogue comes up telling me to come back later, I hit ALT-F4 and walk away.

Beta Slots as a Re-occurring Event?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: biofrog.1568

biofrog.1568

Greetings,

I’ve been really enjoying the beta weekend events not just for the content, but for the ability of trying out new builds and character types without the overheads of having to craft a set of X armour/weapons or to level character Y to 80.

So much so, that I wonder if these can be a reoccurring event in future? Something like a “Free Build Weekend”?

These would supply a temporary character slot for one weekend much like the betas. We can try out any class at level 80, plus we can play around with a pre-packaged set of armour, weapons, runes and sigils without having to spend 100’s of gold to find we don’t really like that play style.

Everything achieved would still be temporary and deleted at end of weekend of course, but a try-before-you-buy option would be excellent!

For Hearts, no, as they are a personal effort and there for you alone to achieve.
The team effort is put into Dynamic Events, which scale up automatically based on the number of players actively working on completing the event.

What you should look for is dynamic events occurring around hearts you have not yet completed, since often a single event will complete the heart already.

Latency Tuning Experiments

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: biofrog.1568

biofrog.1568

My experiences from a Saturday morning West Australian perspective is that things are terrible when there’s any higher player count around. Ping doesn’t change much, sitting around 300ms average rising to 350ms when player count is high, but that’s not what this change is about. Also for reference my internet connection is ADSL2+ at 20mbit downstream 1mbit upstream, sitting around 18ms ping to my ISP.

In a Jormag fight this morning, I was frequently being feared for the entire duration of that fear, all while hitting Armour of Earth 20+ times. The skill never activated, and even after the fear wore off, it still did not activate. I’m quite adept at recognising the animations and prior to today I’ve never really had problems with not countering the fear.. so sadly I think today’s change might have made it worse for me at least.

I’m a player who tours world bosses daily, so this has always been a significant issue. I’m very happy that it is being looked at in a hope to improve big events, especially since HoT is going to be packed for a while.

Edit: since some wouldn’t have experienced it, I thought I’d create a video just running around LA using Ride the Lightning: https://youtu.be/EYJMLyImYGc

Any chance of Elite Specs before HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: biofrog.1568

biofrog.1568

Hi All,
Not sure if this topic has been covered before; apologies if so.

It seems like the current 8 core classes would benefit from receiving the elite specialisation updates a couple weeks prior to the release of HoT. Most of us know from experience that any patch requires some urgent fixes. In the case of story progression bugs, the highest priority is given leaving other bugs trailing.

Less urgent are those related to the class builds and class mechanics. We are currently ironing these out before the major expansion quests/stories/fractals/raids/etc through beta events, thus we can already see their mechanics in the current game. Were they released early, it not only gives us time to create our builds and get used to new character mechanics before HoT, but time for urgent class bug fixes. Revenant is of course story related, thus should be part of the expansion only.

We’ve ~7 weeks to the announced HoT release date. Beta weekends and announcements aside, does anyone feel the class update should be in early October or would you all prefer one massive hit on October 23rd with the danger of game-breaking bugs shelving a character or two?

Yes I did actually! Used the pre-order non-beta character slot to create a dummy just to hold the name. I thought it might be HOM related also, since it drops 300 which is what I have from HOM, but I also think it’s dropped another 200 at some point. Like they took off 500 HOM points then only added 300 back.

Also, my non-beta character just received a [???] item from a chest.. not sure just how separate the accounts are now :-\

Grenadier Temporarily Disabled

in Engineer

biofrog.1568

Hmm, all my builds require grenades. I wish they woulda have just taken out the penetration component of it and left everything else as is rather than disabling it altogether. Oh well, I needed to go finish witcher 2 and 3 anyways so maybe it’ll be fixed by then.

While you’re at it can you also replace glass cannon with heal bombs? Or at least find some way to fit heal bombs back in? That was one of my favorite traits in hotjoin pvp. Bunker for days.

It wasn’t just the piercing aspect, Grenade Barrage was tossing out almost twice as many grenades as it was suppose too, and that was at least as bad as the piercing part.

Hmm.. and here I was thinking they wouldn’t just disable Grenadier since it is so central to a Grenade Kit engineer, and engineer as a class itself. Guess I was wrong.

Guess I will also be shelving my engie until they fix the trait
I feel sorry for those who main an engie, but I guess you can go try some other builds for now.

Grenade Kit is still good without Grenadier, especially for condi builds, and believe it or not, there are Engineer builds that do not use grenades that are actually good, even sometimes great. Tired of everyone acting like the profession is pre-patch Necro levels of terrible without them.

Thus my point of saying “I guess you can go try some other builds for now”.

Will there ever be an Oceanic Server?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: biofrog.1568

biofrog.1568

It’s not going to happen. We are permanently boned in Australia due to physical distance limitations. It even takes LIGHT around 50ms to travel from West Australia to the ANet servers. I see the complaints about ‘high pings’ on the forums and laugh when they are 100-200ms while my average is around 320 ms and spikes into the 2,000’s.

The only solution is a subtle unfortunate one. What score would you rate Guild Wars 2? A 7 out of 10 or maybe an 8 out of 10? Well now factor into that the ‘experience’ of game play you get, given there are no local servers and the latency we experience; see the score for the game drop to a 5 or 6 out of 10.

Does it solve the problem? No. But it gives other Australian players a better indication of what the game play quality actually is.

Grenade Kit Supremacy

Are you saying Grenade Kit is far superior to everything else now, or that Grenades, even if you trait for them, are worse than all other kits??

Are you talking in terms of condi, or power builds? I ask since I play a condi-engie and just dropped grenades from my repertoire.. I could not come up with a good condi grenade build that has synergies in all three trait lines.

Anyone found their build yet?

I am trying to make a good mid-range grenade condition build but haven’t found anything I am really happy with yet

The static discharge build is a no-brainer one, since there are so many synergies and obvious choices in it. The turret build is also fairly straight forward and easy to make.

It’s the shrapnel/bleed/condition stacking explosion build that I find is hard to get the best out of, since the traits you want are mostly in the same tier. Also these seem to be aimed at crits and precision to help proc conditions, when I went with non-precision gear
FML. Might look into converting my ascended armour into another stat set, sigh.

Harmonious Mantras is +4% dmg only on use?

in Mesmer

Just checking my theory about this trait is what everyone understands it to be.

I’m pretty sure Harmonious Mantras is +4% damage only when you use a readied mantra, which can stack 5 times within 8 seconds, up to +20%. It’s not the +4% per readied mantra as per Empowering Mantras currently is today.

Thus to get each +4% damage, will mesmers be using their readied mantras when there isn’t a need to? Condi-cleanse when you have no conditions.. Stability/stun break when you aren’t being knocked down or stunned?

BTW, I’m pretty sure Harmonious Mantras is 4% damage only when you USE the mantra.. and only then it’s 4% for 8 seconds each (up to 20%). It’s not 4% per readied mantra any more.

So I guess the question is, how many times are you using mantras when you don’t need to? Condi-cleanse when you have no conditions.. Stability/stun break when you aren’t being knocked down or stunned?

Is dual- wielding dead now?

in Warrior

Dual-wielding is well and truly in the realm of condition-builds now..

I did love my axe/axe berserker also, but can’t come up with any build that synergies well with the combo. Having said that, I am waiting on the elite specialization to see if that changes things up.

Now it’s happening with Metrica Province.. SAME SERVER IP AS BEFORE: 10.28.74.160

I can’t stress enough how much this particular server on ANet’s internal private network needs to be assessed.
