Am i playing a different game? Thieves do not need more mobility.
There should be an option where players can chat with other players from different servers.
This has been my thought the 2nd week when the game was launched. There should be different maps released w/ different terrain and landscapes. Like.. an open grassy field where servers can just nuke it out, or an Asian themed where there’s bamboos and beautiful mountain views and (of course you get your castles) and there should be parts where water plays an effect into warfare (cuz irl they do). There can even be where there’s 3 islands and boats respawn at certain times and you can invade different islands of the invaders and such. So much potential..
There still aren’t really legit satisfying rewards for doing wvwvw. Defending that tower for hours.. or being the vanguard and such.. They really need to have something more going on.
Like said, this game really does have so much potential. But the game’s going to slowly die once again till something new comes out. There needs to be something game changing to the pvp/wvwvw part.

Was at quentin lake in WvWvW when a necro was taunting me and 4-5 guildies. we chased him down and as he was about to enter quentin tower, i Stole, put my back to his back and used withdraw, then used fear so he basically ran back and got owned by my guildies.

thieves are just so OP. I wish they can have montly nerfs of thieves to even it out for misc players.

It’s not really dazed… it’s that you can’t dodge while that coloration is still on you (which is a bug).

if your hs hits someone while leaping over the powder, it doesn’t reveal you (which is pretty abnormal) so u can land that Bs.

Prelaunch it took me exactly a week to get to lvl 80. And I gained over half my levels from WvWvW. If i can do it, so can you! /go!
1st armor skin I just created today. The theme was my guild “Extraordinary Gentleman” my runes give my elite some special effects so I’m pretty contempt with this skin.

Yeah ive made numerous posts regarding IS within the past 3-4 months.. When you’re in that intense moment and you’re top reliable skill is buggy, it makes me depress.
Whether we like to admit it or not, downed state is a pretty bad design for PVP atm. Self healing, teleporting, mist form, reress, and those skills are fine. What makes downed state a bad design is that you can deal dmg while downed? and you can get ressed pretty fast as well. Wth?
I like the idea of downed. The problem is that people can deal way too high damage when they’re downed, take too less damage, and can be healed too quickly.

Dunno why ppl are complaining. Cloak in this game is pretty OP. You get to buff your cloak in shadow arts, have a consistent burst dmg (cnd, bs and some steal every now and then). AND if you have a main dagger, you get the infamous awesome burst spammable skill Heart Seeker.
Pretty nice. altho i play a slightly different build w/ S/P and SB as weapons (since prelaunch). Not a fan of the shadow arts traits and SB shouldn’t be your main dmg dealer imo. Having 2 poison utilities over did it imo. I’d prefer just 1 poison utility if i decide to gear it. But nice vid man, glad to see there are others who are experimenting w/ non stealth builds.

Okay, everyone’s talking about how we need new weapon sets (which is true) but I believe what we need first are more profession skills. So here’s a profession skill concept.

scouting is already easy enough on a thief imo. Giving thieves skills cooldown won’t happen cuz it defeats the purpose of initiatives. What makes sense is they’ll prolly raise the initiative cost? Who knows. Lets not forget that everyone’s abusing stealth culling atm so that’s a big plus. Pretty sure it’s not gonna get fixed for a long time.
Actually they’ve announced they’re removing culling in this month’s patch.

s/p is viable against newbs and zergs but not against equally skilled players. Or at least, not efficient.

IS as a leap finisher would be crazy OP…
Blind not going away on attacks would be insane OP, even if they didnt stack in duration.S/P is a good set now, maybe some work on PW to improve time or dmg, but even as it is is a good skill to use…
S/P is not a burst dmg set, is more controll and sustain dmg set.
You can perma blind groups of trash mob and autoattack them to death, helps the group also. You can tank with PW spam if timed right to evade boss (blind imune/10%) attacks, etc… On most bosses IS/PW/SR work wonders to deliver dmg and recover from stuns and conds.D/P is a good solo set, but not so nice in groups due to combo overlaping that can mess up your stealth.
D/D is still a good ST dmg dealer if you dont need to worry about evading much.
You’re talking PVE, I believe most of the thieves here are implying PVP situations. The first obvious disadvantage is the fact that S/P is not stealth specced, which is perfectly fine imo. And the fact that it’s not stealth specced, makes it a lil more advanced for whoever wants to play it. But what’s disappointing is the dmg, and the skill options of S/P. And lets keep in mind this is the #1 skill set with the most demanding initiatives.
There are a lot of new Korean MMOs out there that are releasing in a year’s time frame. Better start releasing Cantha to compete imo!
Yeah, Tera is one of the massive modern RNG MMOs that’s out there. Even though GW2 is lacking atm, i know i won’t be going back to tera just because I know I’m months behind everyone who still plays it and will take months to get on track. Great combat system tho! Just no content and too much grinding.

No god, please, no. There are hundreds of “asian style” mmo’s out there.
Those are mostly all Asian themed. I’d like some culture of Asia to be influenced into Guild wars 2. Big difference. New concept art and music is always great for profit and reasons for players to continue playing. “Asian style” offers diversity and great new options and inspiration for new armor/weapon skins along w/ terrain ideas and such. So Yes God, Please, yes.
Besides, some of the armor and weapon skins are seriously lacking. Cowboys aren’t that well thought of, and looking like a RAPlST/stalker was not pleasing at all, especially the dead animal skins. smh…

I was immediately intrigued by the armor skin that they offered. I wouldn’t mind paying some money for some new (breath of fresh air) armor skin. Since Medium skin armors are really bad in general.

there shouldn’t be a range limit to do shadow return. I’ve gone beyond 10,000 range before and return just fine. Truth is, ever since the fractal patch came out, shadow return or infiltrator’s strike has been getting bugged way too much. on launch, it was perfectly fine.
the problem with s/p is that pistol off hand sucks. pistol needs a buff to actually make s/p on par.
The swing animation of sword #1 feels slow, but it’s a cleave. Everything else about the sword feels greasy fast for myself. Sword/dagger is the set that brought me to this game, it’s felt about the same since the betas and always I feel like I’m shedding a few layers when I go back to it after trying something else. I still pretty much only see D/D or P/D thieves though, mostly D/D in our matchups or at least the 6pm pacific playtime.
ye gotta love the cleave damage.. in and out of zergs is fun :P

Atm I am 10 30 10 20 0.. works pretty great.. but I still dont think I hit the full potential of this spec.. landing the daze is pretty tuff, thinking of specing the the 50 movement speed while in stealth just for it..b) people have by and large figured it out. Though we still see complainers on the forums, there is a large number or WvW vets that simply laugh at GC Thieves nowadays. After all, they’re the easiest to kill once you hit them… even if you can’t see them.
Just for the lulz how do you counter, Assasin signet + bassilisk venom + haste combination?
always have your infiltrator’s strike already activated. So once u see a lil dmg, u can simply shadow return. a sword main hand will always have the advantage over d/d imo.
Tbh, black powder is a very selective skill against classes or against numbers of people. and it sucks when the skill cast takes 1/4 seconds to do so. (shooting at point blank should be insta gib imo.) Blind is nice but remember, it’s a condition (which can be easily removed). Now lets compare that to another #5 skill, cloak and dagger. Satisfying damage along w/ stealth. I don’t think there’s much to say there. really, there is no competition between pistol off hand and dagger off hand.
Lets not forget that black powder in a sense is inferior to P/W. With P/W i can 1/2 second stun, doing actual DPS, while evading physical projectile and melee. Which skill are you actually going to use when you’re in melee range? I’d go for [Pistol whip], majority of the time. 4 seconds of blind is as long as one normal p/w. How sad is that?
I think the main reason you see less S/P in WvW is the lack of consistent stealth, especially when in melee range. When you can consistently hit a thief they are one of the easiest professions to kill, and you can only dodge so many attacks.
As for infiltrators strike the reason it’s 5 initiative is that it’s one of the only weapon skills (if not the only) that provides a stun breaker.
that is pretty true. But infiltrator’s strike does not break stun (bugged), but it does shadow return. The skill itself is pretty bugged atm, which is a shame really because on launch it was perfectly fine. Now sometimes you infiltrator’s strike doesn’t even work when you click on it, or it doesn’t shadow return you on command.. OR.. Upon infil striking, you can’t shadow return at all! These are only buggy sometimes.. but in crucial moments it screws you over so well.
One of the personal changes i wanna see is from pistol off hands, having the ability to place where you want your black powder to be. I do not understand the animation of it, where you’re shooting “powder” from your gun but it drops to your feet? Imho, that is quite laugable. The animation does take kinda long to complete [just like cloak and dagger] but the only difference is that you can actually instant give cnd w/ steal. You should be able to use skill#5 black powder as though you are using infiltrator’s arrow. I think that makes a lot more sense then the current powder skill. Back to Headshot. the skill needs to get re-named or have a slight dmg buff imo. Headshot (along w/ black powder) does the most poor damage in the thieves weapon options. when i say poor, i mean having 55+ crit dmg along with 2k power, and only being able to do 200 dmg for headshot (and black powder). I’m not saying give them super buffed up damage, but when a fire sigil does more dmg then ur 4-6 initiative skill, you know something’s wrong there.

Head shot is a finisher.. it’s not an opener. Sometimes when you’re in that heated battle and u’d just wish if it did at least half the damage as dancing dagger or cnd. but instead you get 260+ w/ crits. (quite laughable) Some combo finisher, huh?
Now lets compare #5 skills Cloak and dagger and black powder

I do a very satisfying 3k+ crits to your daily players in wvwvw. What really makes this skill awesome is that you can have traits to give it buffs (during stealth). Oh and may i say Stealth is awesome? Stealth beats blind anyday in my book (especially when you’re stomping ppl)

^lol they put 900 range on the description on default cuz of the pistol but reality is that the range is 1.
Same dmg as headshot, 250+ hit w/ crit. Oh and it takes 1/4 seconds before you can cast it. It might not sound much but it does when you’re in a heated battle w/ that warrior.. or that bunker guardian. Shooting black powder that falls to your feet, how pathetic is that? You’d think it’s something epic or something that’s got more survibility like cnd. Don’t get me wrong, blind is superior (only in pve).
Now… If you have reached this far, I am in no way, saying or implying that dancing dagger and CnD is OP. I am in fact stating how inferior pistol off hand is.
If you actually buff Headshot and black powder, I can guarantee you the p/p would actually be up to par and not inferior.
So can we please discuss about what’s important and not about how warriors are more mobile then thieves? If you’re a die hard thief player, you’d know that thieves do it best (along w/ eles)

S/p is a very costy build. Stealth does not compliment S/p whatsoever. You can still trait up for it but there are better utilities out there for s/p thieves other then more misc stealth skills.
Stealth trait compliments —--> p/d, d/p, s/d, and d/d. So that’s probably why you’ll see more of em out there.
Wow. Really guys? Really? Why so mad and offended? Not once did he said that thieves were OP. He’s not trolling, you guys are just spamming. To the thief that said 100blades was the OP skill: no it’s not. If you forgot, thieves have the luxury of stealthing, thus making bs more consistent then 100blades (even with their knockdown).
Hello. Lifetime ranger and newborn thief here.
Just over an hour ago in WvW, a thief and I engaged one another in the open field. I managed to defeat him, however after checking the combat log it appeared he had hit me several times with a Backstab of 5.8k+ damage.
5.8k+ damage, against my ranger, who has 1800 toughness and who gets the protection boon for a second or two on every dodge. How is this much damage even possible? If those 5.8k hits had been crits instead, how high would it have been?
What build was this guy running? And do you think this much damage is fair?
1800 toughness, using GS, dodging for protection, while taking multiple of BS? I call bunker build! What was ur 2ndary weapon? bow or S/D? and which pet were u using? Classic case of bunker vs glassy thief. 5.8k probably IS his crit damage imo. When you stealth, BS on autoattack is given to you on default, but the dmg increases if you can actually pull off BS the the rear. The backstab skill is pretty balanced imo. What makes BS hard to survive against is the setup. Most thieves would prolly go basillisk venom, cloak and dagger+ steal, (basillisk venom stunning for 1.5 seconds), then backstab. If the invader is still alive they’ll just Heart seeker to finish you off. Keep in mind all of this is being pulled off within 3-4 seconds on average.
If he was specced in stealth, and wasn’t able to kill you, it’d be vice versa too. That being said, it’s prolly typical 25 deadly arts, 30 critical strikes, 15 trickery.
True true, but if you watch the video closely, in no way was that asura thief lagging at all. You can especially tell when he was taunting by jumping around (pretty smooth gameplay imo). But what really gives it off is the fact that he’s consistently teleporting throughout the vid [w/ pistol/pistol]. You can only do that if y ou know how to conserve your initiative and spam infiltrator’s strike {sword main hand}.
Was fighting that guy earlier where he was porting around too so i turned fraps on when i stumbled over him after that…

Hi Baba, I can in fact with no doubt confirm it for you that he’s hacking. I’ve fought with this ViZ asuran p/p thief before (pwned him like. 20×.. camped his kitten lmfao). what you needed to do was use ur d/d to do major burst, then switch to ur sword to continue infiltrator striking to kill him. That’s how i caught him when i saw him using insane teleporting.
Like what Baba has said previously, he’s using p/p 2 signets (which none was infiltrator’s signet) and haste. In none of his buff bar, did he had infiltrator’s signet, infiltrator strike/return animation or shadow step utility animation. So that his only source of teleportation would be short bow? No. [infiltrator’s arrow] (if he’s using short bow).. The only teleporting that a thief can use without targetting something first is infiltrator’s arrow and shadow step. But this guy was teleporting for the full duration of the video. You can instantly call it hacks already when someone is consistently using little teleports while burning their initiative on their major burst.
edit: and he doesn’t have bad connection. if he was lagging, other invaders/players in the vid would have been lagging as well, and his response time would be so off.

I’m grinning like im winning. Have I ever once stated that I fully agreed that Thieves are perfectly balanced and does not need further fixing? No. I’ve previously stated that the BS set up needs a bit more extreme nerf and there shouldn’t be a reward trait for thieves stealthing (except for more movement options). Having the ability to stealth already is Luxury itself.
I was simply answering your question and It’s right, we don’t have the highest damage. Like said, teleporting or cloaking gives us a higher chance to pull off our attacks. What if a warrior had cloak as well? Just what if?

thieves have the most reliable burst in the game, period. simply because u cant really dodge it unless you get lucky, or waste endurance before his opener. there is no skill to it. there needs to be a longer delay before the damage hits, after a thief shadowsteps, maybe 0.25 of a second.
another option is to increase Revealed to 4-5 seconds, instead of 3. keep the burst.
Thank you, for actually being able to differentiate a reliable setup burst and the number one best burst damage. You’d be surprise of how many ACTUAL thieves agree and wants to work with Arena by giving helpful feedbacks of what thieves need changing.

I cannot play pretend that there is still a pvp playerbase when in reality it’s about 1% of the total players that bought the game doing pvp.
I can’t pretend that the pvp playerbase didn’t drop off a cliff everytime a pvp patch came out that addressed none of the problems with thieves.
I can’t pretend that there hasn’t been 500,000 posts all yelling to change this class in 4 months. I’ve never seen so many posts/views/replies about one class in a new game in my life.
So how come we have to pretend this class is balanced because 1 dev and 15 thief players can’t figure out how to pvp with even scaled abilities.
Stop, Just Stop. Do you understand why GW2 is dieing? the Spvp is a very biased pvp option (which not many people prefer), and WvWvW is getting old. Can I remind you that WvWvW is actually more popular then sPVP. WvWvW is the money maker. And when that money maker system gets too repetitive with no rewards and no GvG content whatsoever, then people are bound to leave. What’s more dramatic? Every few player here and there leaving cuz they cannot counter a thief? Or the fact that a whole guild leaving because they expected GvG content and actual rewards? War Machine Guild is a prime example of this. a couple weeks ago one of the war machine leaders made a post in wvwvw stating his concern for wvwvw and said how WM as whole came to GW2 w/ 1000 members and now they only have 50 core members left. Do you understand the numbers I’m putting out there?

95% of the time all my guild does is duel. We always tell people who just joined that we’re dueling. Usually they respect that and we let them watch. Everyone who’s watching takes turn dueling. If there’s no mutual agreement then just simply leave that room.
The head designer obviously plays this class and is totally out of touch with reality, because I’ve never seen a class this insanely over the top in any game.
I’ve seen classes that can get away from just about anything.
I’ve seen classes run faster than anything.
I’ve seen classes 1-2 shot people.
Just never seen a class in a game that could do all of these at the same time, and a design team absolutely unwilling to address the fact that it’s this out of control. So lets all stop pretending this is a mistake or balancing issue when we all know exactly what’s going on here, blatant favoritism towards a guys preffered class.
Most players call the game Thief Wars you really gonna tank your own game pvp wise to keep your class on easy mode pvp.
Isn’t the thief/assassin class suppose to have an advantage of escaping on ez mode?
Thieves run faster only when they have 25% signet of shadow. Are you seriously going to have it equipped at all time?
Thieves don’t 1-2 shot, they 3 shot people (from full health). And when you get backstabbed with a full setup, it’s a case of… “I caught you and you’re squishy as kitten”
Thieves being out of control is an overstatement. The design team does acknowledge the thieves being a bit OP. Perhaps you haven’t been reading the updates. The fact that CC Charles from the Coordination Community personally made a topic “The thief and its gameplay – Your feedback” Shows their intent on the continuation of nerfing thieves. But they want to do it right before nerfing anything.
For the longest time I have strongly thought that BS needed a more extreme nerf. The stealthing system in GW2 is really unique and it has potential to be very balanced compare to other MMO’s w/ their stealthing system. What GW2 messed up on (as i have pointed before in the thieves section) is the pure fact that they can be traited to be rewarded under stealthed. Moving faster under stealthed is a given since the 2 main concept of stealth is to conceal your character and to escape. But when you regain init faster, regenerate, remove condition during health That’s over the top of the line. Stealthing is a privilege that other classes envy and is strictly only for thieves/assassins/rogues. Stealth itself is a luxury. When you can build a class can regenerate back to full health and initiative when unstealth (w/ multiple stacks of might), then that is just very lazy and sloppy designing from Anet.
Look, you seem pretty knowledgable of the thief class and how they work, but when you make ridiculous assumptions like the Head designer maining a thief and refuses to nerf it and ridiculous claims that you can drop everyone in 10 seconds, it makes your arguments less valuable. Your arrogance shows that you’re somewhat ignorant in some points. Which leads me to believe what that one guy was saying, you’re a troll.
And yes I do play thief. And yes I do believe you can’t kill me under 10 seconds.
