It is unfortunate the amount of people that think small guilds just should not be able to do the missions because of their size.

Oh the large guilds should have priority those small guilds are going to mess everything up if they start missions. They won’t even be able to complete them so why bother
I really hope that was not the intent for these missions- to make small guilds feel bad about wanting to be small.

Nothing is stopping you from participating. You can simply ask a friend in a larger guild when the events are starting and let your guild members know. All you are not getting is guild merits

78g and 16 days is all that is stopping you from starting them yourself (excluding the influence cost of the event which is unknown). That’s for a “guild” of one person. You can divide that cost amongst your close knit friends in your small guild if you all think it’s worth it. That is also assuming you are starting the guild with 0 influence.

Should smaller guilds earn influence at the same rate as larger guilds?

  • Imo, that doesn’t seem to make having a larger guild matter.

Should the influence cost or tier be lower so all guilds can afford do missions?

  • That does seem right either…with a tier 3 requirement, all that is required is 8k influence or 8g and a week.
  • Depending on the cost to start an event. that could mean events literally all day, everyday, from almost any guild in the game. How would that make your guild stand out at all?

Lastly, how would a guild of 2-4 people expect to tackle this large group content without the help of others around them? Especially for those that take place in multiple locations simultaneously?

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/7133/Februarys-Flame-and-Frost-Update-Detailed.html

A couple specific quotes form the interview for you….

<snip>For personal motivation, anyone who completes the rush at least once will receive a personal reward regardless of if they are in the sponsoring guild or not. Also, anyone who was in the guild that kicked off the mission receives an extra different type of reward, which can be traded in for a new category of personal guild rewards that can only be earned through the guild mission system.<snip>

MMORPG: What sort of rewards can guilds obtain by completing them?
COLIN: There are a number of new rewards available from this system, from items specifically for players who complete the missions to rewards and upgrades for the guild itself. Guilds have a lot of new unlocks and really great bonuses they can purchase as a result of completing these missions. For example, you can purchase cheaper waypoint costs for your entire guild while the bonus is active.
Personal reward options vary from luxury goods and new types of items, to fun guild related stuff. One example of a personal reward you can buy I think is especially fun is a transform that turns you into your guild’s banner. It’s perfect for taunting enemies from the walls of a keep in WvW and reminding them who just stomped their face!

You should read the tooltip about the boon “Might” again. It scales both power and condition damage.

Also…. conditions cannot be blocked by aegis, reflected or blocked with blocking skills…. the SKILLS that cause conditions can be countered. And those same situations block direct damage skills in exactly the same way. Also, it can be noted that there are some traits that can make skills unblockable. Such as “Greater Marks” for the necro… which affects the staff, a condition damage weapon.

While it is true that you cannot stack new conditions during invulnerability, evasion, during countering moves, or with aegis up… neither can direct damage damage attacks be landed. However conditions will continue ticking. Your point about it only lasting 1 second is moot, because condition duration can be extended and not all sources of conditions have the same duration to begin with. That fact is, that once the condition is applied it will continue to do its job until it has expired or been cleared.

This is not an argument for the superiority of conditions, merely pointing out to you that if you are going to correct someone… take the time to be correct.

Oh, a tooltip! Why didn’t I think of that? Tooltips are, after all, so very reliable in GW2…

Last I checked, which I admit was some time ago, the tooltip was incorrect and might was not increasing Condition Damage. I would love if that has been fixed by now, but I haven’t ever seen anything in the patch notes which says so and I haven’t bothered to check, have you checked or are you just assuming it’s working correctly?

Uh, yeah that’s exactly what I said. Using a skill which would apply conditions during a block, while using reflection, evasion, or invulnerability will cause the conditions not to be applied. However, except in the case of invulnerability, existing conditions will continue to deal damage. Kind of like I already said… learn to read.

And conditions can be reflected, I run a scepter build, people and mobs reflect my stone shards all the time and I do get hit with the bleeds. If the projectile which applies the condition is reflected, the condition is reflected. Conditions are not affected by retaliation, and I never said they were. Those two abilites are not the same, do some kitten research before you open your mouth.

It seems your reading comprehension is a little lacking.

Might most definitely affects both power and condition damage. If you can’t bring yourself to believe both in-game descriptions of the skill and extra-game descriptions of the skill… you can always actually use it and see for yourself.

Here is a hint for an ezmode way… go with a mesmer into the underwater fractal… stack some bleeds on the jelly beast and see what they do each tic… then have him steal the 25 stacks of might from the jelly beast and pass it to you… then stack some new conditions once again and observe the difference.

I’m sure you are probably creative enough to conduct some similar test in any way you prefer.

What you said and what I said were similar… but not the same… you intoned that condition damage was inferior to direct damage due to blocks and reflects… when in fact both of them are affected in exactly the same way. The only difference is that conditions continue to tic.

And conditions CANNOT be reflected… the skills that inflict those conditions can… if the skill is reflected then it and all its accompanying effects are inflicted on the new target. The distinction is very important. SKILLS ARE REFLECTED AND BLOCKED… conditions caused by those skills are not, they are simply applied to the new target or not at all (in the case of a block or invuln in which the skill does not actuate.)

I didn’t mention retaliation… you don’t reed so gud.

Again… if you are going to be pedantic… try to be correctly pedantic.

All players here complaining about the influence you pay to do an guild mission (open world event as arena net already said) just try to explain me 1 thing: If they would make it easy from every guild to create a guild mission, how on earth will be available space in tyria to all this events since they are on open world? I’m sure they will be a lot of guild missions events that will be created. You can all participate on them and you can all win their rewards.

No… we can’t… only the guild starting the event earns the Guild Merits for the unique rewards… im sure all the spectators in the event get the same kittenty rewards that you get everywhere else in the game.

“Hey everybody Megaguild Incorporated is starting an event… come get your porous bones and help us earn our new Legendary Animated Guild Emblems of Awesomeness!!”

And as far as concurrent events… that can easily be solved by having many different missions in many places… and placing restrictions on how often those events can be activated even if they have already been researched. Problem solved.

As far i’m concerned from reading what colin said in dragonseason the rewards that the guild members won are to created other type of missions.

Well then as you are displaying in this thread, you don’t read so good. The new type of missions are unlocked using influence… clearly readable in the dragonseason interview you mentioned.

And in other tidbits that have been thrown out among other threads and 3rd party sources… the new guild rewards aren’t just more content… they are things such as (specifically mentioned somewhere else) gold find bonus or waypoint cost reductions.

First of all I didn’t said you didnt need influence points to unlock the new missions, I said the guild merits were only to unlock other tier for guild missions (guild upgrades) , sorry it wasn’t colin that said that was Leah Rivera: "These Merits display your accomplishments in the guild panel and can be used to unlock new guild upgrades. "

Source: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/leah-rivera-on-new-guild-missions/

Awesome…. you are getting there. Now read the second paragraph in my reply… here I will make it easy for you by copy/pasting it again.

Let’s say you have a guild of 5 people and 0 AoW unlocks today. Ignoring any influence gains from activities you need 73 gold to unlock all the tiers, or 14.6 gold per person.

I don’t mean to single you out Crimsony, many have illustrated this point.

But, to be fair, why not charge every player in the game 14.6g to access the new content?

Why tax the small guilds?

“Help! I’m being repressed!” lol

This is a serious question I have for these smaller guilds:

If you do not want to pay or play to earn the influence needed, what is stopping you from cooperating with larger guilds doing the content?

From the look of the content, people in the open world can also participate for a reward, though people in the guild starting the mission will earn guild specific rewards.

What is stopping people from making a friend in a larger guild so that they can ask when the missions are starting?

Or from asking in LA or map chat where the missions are starting?

Or from simply looking at the map (if I am understanding functionality) and letting your small guild know when an event is up?

You’d get the experience and a reward, just not the Guild Merits, is that correct?

Because we want to earn Guild Merits too… and we want to experience the content as a guild, not as a spectator…

What would stop a large guild from activating an event that a smaller non-mega guild could afford?

For you to win guild merits, you need to complete the mission, if you don’t have enough people to complete the mission how can you win guild merits? There are people here complaining that they have 2 players in a guild and they want to create guild missions, seriously wth..

Well, Leah did say “But what if my guild is super small?” you may say? Not to worry—

I know some say size isn’t everything but when something is super small, my mental image is of something, well, super small.

It is subjective to be sure.

Once again… so that everyone is on the same page. ONLY members of the guild that researched the event and activated it get the new guild rewards. Everyone else is just a spectator that will get the same sorts of rewards they get from doing normal DE’s (in other words: some experience, a little karma, maybe a silver or two, and some crap loot.)

You have a fair point.

It’s true that big guilds have a big advantage here I won’t deny that. And I certainly can understand why lots of smaller guilds would want easier unlocks here.

After thinking about that I do think having some easier to unlock missions would be good, and that “elite” missions that require completing a bunch of others first (but that aren’t expensive) would be even better.

I do really think there’s a place for expensive guild missions though.

Personally I just like having goals to work towards as long as they’re not unattainable.

One thing GW2 lacks so far is much progression beyond getting to level 80 / high level gear. GW1 had a huge questing system, and thousands of skill unlocks, and these gave the game depth. I’d like to see more depth, more things to work towards, in GW2.

I definitely think there is a place for elite content, expensive content, and massive party content in this game.

I also think that the first ever guild missions released should be accessible for smaller guilds too (mine has around 20 active members which means 5-10 on at peak times) so that they don’t hemorrhage their membership to mega guilds due to an inability to join in on the fun from the get go or fairly soon after. 2 weeks is like 2 years to impatient instant gratification types that play video games… and that’s after having to grind and pay a very high tax in gold that they wouldn’t have to invest by simply joining a mega guild.

One thing for people to note: clearly this will be something that works like other guild items, such as banquet/banner/etc.

That means you will be limited by the time and influence it takes to research. It also means that people who are balking at AoW 5 will likely be in for a bad surprise when they see how much each mission costs to research.

I’m fine with it being expensive to research… I am not fine with brand spanking new content being unavailable to my guild for half a month because as a newer small guild we had no reason to even begin upgrading AoW.

Brand new content should have been placed in a tree that was attractive to all guilds no matter their size.

We don’t have all of those upgraded yet either… but at least we wouldn’t feel like we were being forced to waste influence on a tree we don’t need to prevent bleeding players to bigger guilds. It would have hurt nothing to place the first guild missions available in economy or architecture.

The problem of course (which is ANet’s fault, not yours) is that you’re assuming the only guild mission to be available at start will be the Bounty @ AoW5.

This is something an informed dev could clear up lickety-split.

taps foot

Well… yes… it is an assumption… but not just based on one developer content.

There is also this:

“Colin: It’s really spread out all over the game and it depends on which type of mission you’re doing. There are actually five completely different types of missions and based on which one it is – bounty hunts, for example, is the really basic one, that’s the one that you can get right off the bat when [February’s] release first goes out. You actually have to unlock all the other missions types, so it’s literally going to take months for your guild to build up enough influence to unlock all of them <snip>”

quoted from:
http://dragonseason.com/Front/tabid/124/EntryId/210/Lunch-with-Colin-Johanson-Part-I.aspx

I’ll reiterate… “that’s the one you can get right off the bat when [February’s] release first goes out”

The one.

Might be reading into the statement too deep.. but since he goes on to say that it is a progression that will take you months to unlock all 5 categories… it isn’t much of a stretch to take the words “the one” to mean that only Guild Bounties will be made available in February… and that we now know is located in the AoW tree… and that by the time my small guild has earned enought to activate these new missions large guilds will have already opened up another category…. so what incentive do players have to join a small guild if they don’t already know each other?

They have only used Guild Bounties, one of 5 Guild Missions, as an example. That requires rank 5 AoW.

There are 4 other guild missions:

  • Guild Trek
  • Guild Challenge
  • Guild Rush
  • Guild Puzzle

They could all be in different tracks. They could all be tied to the AoW track. We don’t know.

However, ALL that we know is that 1 guild mission is tied to AoW rank 5.

And when it is brand new content… never before seen mechanics in the game… it shouldn’t be gated so that many players must wait long periods of time to see it after grinding ridiculous amounts of gold and influence.

The first ever guild missions introduced into guild wars 2 should have been in a tree that is attractive to all guilds no matter their size… and at a lower tier of upgrade, such as Economy 2 or 3.

The alternative, of course, for many players that want to see the new content now (as many will) is to rep a large guild, or be a spectator in one of their events. Since many large guilds require 100% rep, that means small guilds bleed membership while they struggle/“grind like migrant farm workers” to catch up.

It has been stated by a dev that the introduction of guild content into the game is gated at Art of War tier 5.

Why is this a problem for small guilds?

Because small guilds have absolutely no business claiming wvw keeps and camps. Because it’s a waste of influence for small guilds to invest in this tree… because many small guilds don’t wvw.

All or at least most guilds will invest in trees like architecture and economy. Because that’s where the guild storage and the most desirable guild bonuses reside.

This isn’t a question of whether small guilds can eventually get the bonuses… of course we can… we can grind out gold and influence to get them… and then wait the 16 days for AoW to build. This is a question of murdering small guilds so that only large guilds remain.

We all know that gamers flock to new content like seagulls to a trashcan. I’ve already received 1 pm in game letting me know that when the patch drops they will be joining and repping a mega guild so they can experience the new content.

This is about small guilds being able to maintain numbers and still have content to do together. Placing the first ever guild content to be introduced into the game in a tree that most small guilds haven’t invested in, and will require time to do so effectively makes them less competitive and attractive for recruitment and repping.

This isn’t about incentive for large guilds to be large… this is about first ever content being gated for large and established guilds only. Your initial rollout should be inclusive for all guilds no matter the size… so that we don’t bleed membership to mega guilds while we struggle to catch up (we already bleed membership to mega guilds because sometimes we cant afford to keep guild bonuses up without spending gold). Tier 2 or 3 in architecture or economy would have been fine. AoW is a useless tree to many small guilds. Later patches could introduce content that only large guilds can afford. This way… smalls guilds have new content they can experience together soon… and so can large guilds…

And yes… small guilds want to experience the new content together and see what the new rewards are… we don’t want to join as spectators to someone elses event, get jack kitten for rewards and have it be old news by the time we get a chance to do it with our own influence.

Art of War level 5 huh? Well that means if my small guild started working toward it now…. we can join in on all the awesome fun in maybe 2 or 3 months.

It takes you 2-3 months to earn 78g…as an entire guild?

Sure… why not… I’ve never bothered to tax the members of my guild… I don’t know what they earn beyond our dungeon runs… although if you had bothered to read the entire thread you would have seen that we had to start over as a guild because leadership quit the game. And it was just recently… and we haven’t managed to get much else upgraded since then… although our original guild was well decked out.

You also aren’t including the 16 consecutive days of build time that 0-5 in AoW requires… and that is if we aren’t upgrading much else…. and remember to activate each of the upgrades directly after one another.

Do you know why people don’t like raids? It’s because they don’t want to work a second job when they come home and boot up their entertainment.

You might also like playing in a large guild where you are nothing more than a number… we like playing among people we have vetted to be competent in content and able to avoid acting like a complete moron in guild chat. Why invite people that we don’t like? That means a guild where everyone freely interacts with each other, understands their talents, and works together tends to stay fairly small for all the right reasons. A 500 man guild is nothing more than a pug hub with its own chat channel.

You miss the point entirely… it is not that we cannot get the upgrades eventually… it is that the guild content (especially the first tier content) should not be prohibitively gated for accessibility to mega guilds and old established guilds only. It makes it harder to start and maintain a new guild when all the content designed to create guild loyalty and cohesion is only easily accessible to guilds that are already established with a large active player base. They don’t need the extra perks as much… they already have some of it through their ability to maintain guild buffs. The ones that need this content (again, especially the first tier guild content) the most are the smaller guilds that earn less influence and need more avenues for creating guild cohesion to avoid bleeding good players to mega guilds that already have all the content unlocked.

Well that wasn’t well thought through…. I’ve had a guild with friends since day one and not all of our stuff is maxxed out to lvl 5. If you only have a small group of friends that play casually then they don’t get any of the new stuff. What the heck is the point of making them so difficult to get. Furthermore, how am I supposed to get friends to play more if this is the case. “Hey guys they implemented a lot of new stuff! Unfortunately, we can’t do any of it unless we grind our guild points up..”

I guess we should treat this more like facebook… and make sure we have 500 random people on our friends list… I mean in our guild… in order to open up more content… and then all we need is 1000 random people in our guild (friends list) to open up that next tier of content after that. Or you know… spend our hard earned cash/gold on Zynga bucks… I mean gems… to buy influence so that we can play with people we actually know and would want on a friends list.

Welcome to raids… Farmville style…

This is actually the first time I have found myself so negatively affected by something they’ve done. I was in a guild pretty much from launch… but one day not long ago we came to the realization that none of the guild leadership had logged in for a long time… and no one else had the power to queue and activate upgrades and the like. We had been thinking of changing servers anyway… so when we did we simply started a new guild at the same time.

The guild I had dedicated 5 months to from release was already small at around 40 member… but now we have roughly 20. And we haven’t invested any of our influence into the WvW upgrades because a guild that size has absolutely no business claiming keeps and camps. Besides… we haven’t even gotten a treasure trove built yet.

I’ve been waiting for guild content to come out since release… looking forward to it… and when it was announced I was really really excited. The recent blog post showing the chicken race and whatnot telling us about some of the content had me looking forward to it even more.

Now I find out that I have to have spent tens of thousands of influence into an upgrade line our guild has no use for…. to activate fun leisure activities for us to do together…

Well… I cannot possibly find the words to describe how incredibly disappointed I am. I’m not mad… I’m not going to rage… I’m not going to sell my freedom to a mega guild just so I can see content along with a giant zerg of other players I don’t know and never play or chat with…

So I’ll just say this… Thanks… really… and kitten you too Anet.

Direct damage doesn’t ignore armour, protection, and invulnerability.

There most certainly are strings attached.

And here kids is an example of cleverly omitting important information.

It’s true condition damage isn’t mitigated by armor, however health certainly does the trick since condition scaling is negligible compared to health scaling. And the way armor is calculated in this game makes it to where stacking armor past your health yields no reasonable return. So anybody who has high armor, assuming they actually know how to build, has high health as well. And those who don’t, would be better fought with a power build. There is no good build against which condition damage is better than power.

Condition Damage isn’t affected by Protection, it also doesn’t scale with Might or Vulnerability, which means you are immune to a 33% damage reduction only to lose out on a 100% damage increase. Additionally, conditions are countered by aegis and can be reflected or blocked.

And you CANNOT stack new conditions on someone with invulnerability or evasion, existing conditions will continue ticking but new ones cannot be applied.

One thing I would like to see done with turrets is to change their AI just a bit. Have them never attack a structure of any kind, or a neutral (yellow) mob like a deer standing off the side.

They could make turret builds much more interesting by adding a grandmaster rank trait called “guided turrets” that causes them to attack your target. Maybe not 100% of the time though, that might be OP, maybe a 50% chance every 3 seconds of changing target to the one you are currently targeting if it is within their range. I dunno (would need more fleshing out)… but a grandmaster turret trait that gives them an ai tweak to attack your current target makes them much more viable as a build option by giving you at least a chance of focusing your dps and control.

Flamethrower needs a little work… the smoke field should definitely be persistent, even if for only 2 seconds. Flame Blast should have a % chance to inflict burning too. And fix the stupid targeting problems with it already so I can stop feeling like a moron for busting it out on level ground and watching entire groups of mobs being engulfed in flames and bouncing “miss” or “obstructed” words… and no, pointing my camera up at the sky to watch birds fly around so I can hit things with it is not an acceptable workaround. I need to be able to see the fight to react to it.

Elixers are in a good place overall… but the RNG needs to be somewhat lessened… making them even marginally less random would help in using them in pvp and higher level fractals. Random = unreliable in content with very little forgiveness. In short reaction time content… I cannot afford to not know what my skills are going to do when I activate them… because I don’t have time to adjust when they do something uselessly random. Take the elixer with the toolbelt skill that “creates a random spell effect”… sometimes it is reflection… sometimes something else… it isn’t reliable. If I have no way of knowing what it is going to do I’m not going to waste my fraction of a second reaction times on it.

Bomb kit is great… it’s awesome. Make the autoattack have a 20% chance blast finisher and it’s golden.

Grenades are good… I’m not sure if the damage reduction on the #1 attack was warranted or not, but I do believe it should also have a 20% chance at being a blast finisher as well.

While the self CC is pretty funny and lends a sort of “Wile E Coyote uses ACME products” feel to it… no other class has stun breakers that stun them. The animations are great… they are funny… stop making the skills a convenient excuse for other classes to kill me ezmode. I shouldn’t need to use a stun break to break my stun break. That’s stupid.

Gadgets would be more appealing if they had passives the way signets do with other classes. Goggles could increase precision, or add a % chance to cause vulnerability on crit. Something like that for when they are not on cooldown… this would at least excuse the ridiculous cooldown times you have on them after being used.

I’ve got more ideas, but this has already gotten longer than I intended.

Remove rangers, necros, and engies

I say remove warriors, guardians, and elementalists.

I see them everywhere… they fill up my pugs all the time… I’m just tired of looking at them and they are over played when the ‘real’ classes are left alone. There’s too many of them which makes having a more diverse and interesting dungeon experience hard to find. Get rid of them please…

Also… I’d like to see the Twilight legendary removed from the game… I see 4 or 5 of them a day now out in the wild… I’m sick of looking at them and as everyone knows only exploiters get legendaries so they should be removed to help improve overall player skill.

/oblivious sarcasm.

Regardless of what you think of the particular OP, I think the sentiment here is good. Players should be aware of their environment and other players make up a large part of that environment. My pet issue is gratuitous knockbacks. I often wish that any knockback ability was unlocked only after taking a class in how to use it properly in combat. I’m sure every scepter ele, 100b warrior, WW guardian has the daily annoyance of blowing their most damaging ability (over and over) by having the target removed by someone’s knockback.

Lol!! Definitely one of my pet peeves… in a dungeon with my mesmer using sword… I immobilize a mob and begin a blurred frenzy (which roots me) only to have some moron ranger 5 miles away knock the mob back with his long bow for no reason at all. Thanks guy… thanks.

NO… I absolutely do not want a dungeon queue system. Absolutely not. I don’t want this to turn into a dungeon lobby game where everyone afks waiting to be paired automatically with other random people.

I don’t care what arguments hold water with you… social aspects are important to the culture of an mmo. Manual grouping is important to create interaction between players… we already have enough of them that refuse to speak in party chat and collaborate. It would only get worse if they don’t have to actively request to join your party. Being expected to use a tool that takes all the interaction out of grouping will only further deprecate team tactics in favor of more idiotic “zerker damaj pwnage just for me and no team utility” builds. Not to mention it further alienates players from each other, leading to even less civil behavior.

The dredge loot bags drop t6 mats including scales… you can find them in the fractals, and in frostgorge. Maybe sorrows embrace… although I haven’t run explore on that one enough to know (or remember) I got any t6 ther.

Blood and scales drop from mobs in southsun cove too.

Don’t concentrate on just “killing things repeatedly” to get your mats… they drop rarely because they are rare mats… your best bet is to collect things from various sources and convert. Gold to mats on the tp… lower level mats to higher level mats from the mystic forge…. laurels to mats…. loot bags to mats… in addition to killing. You’ll find the game a lot less frustrating when you don’t focus into a single thing and pound away at it relentlessly…

Vary your gameplay. Don’t sit in one zone all the time, don’t sit in one spot all the time, don’t kill the same mobs all the time.

You can get t6 mats from various sources, and unless you have been struck by the perma dr bug your best bet is to move around the world not concentrating on anything to a ridiculous degree. You can buy t6 mats with laurels, you can get them from loot bags both in world and dungeons, you can make them by transmogrifying lower level mats in the mystic forge… use the various sources to your gain instead of sitting in one spot.

Also… you aren’t going to find any “real” information about DR on this forum or any other… only speculation and hyperbole. Nobody outside Arenanet knows how DR works, because they have specifically not told us anything about it… we can only speculate about how it works and what it does. Some of us more level headed about it than others… but none of us informed.

I say we cannot rule out the common large events, specially in light of a bug being found with the qualifying of loot, which could of been blocking the dropping of Final Rest from its chest. Something along of the lines of “Yes you can have loot, but you do not qualify for anything more than ….”.

Yeah, which is why I decided I’ll search more once the loot bug is fixed. No one knows if it’s interfering with Final Rest or not.

Though honestly, I hope it’s because Final Rest is so rare and not because of a coding error. That’d make us all look silly, wouldn’t it? lol.

Nah not really… I wouldn’t feel silly at all. I don’t need the staff, at all… but I am enjoying the search for it immensely. Even if it turns out that it isn’t available due to a coding error… that doesn’t diminish all the fun I’ve had theory crafting and searching Tyria for hints and clues to its whereabouts. Naturally I would expect them to fix the error…. but….

This is the type of end game that is sustainable… gear treadmills suck, dungeons get old after a few dozen runs… but small things that immerse you into the world never do, because they keep you mentally engaged with the game… rather than being on auto pilot through yet another kitten speed run not talking to other players for a chance at a piece of equipment that will let you run the same content again at a higher level.

Give us more stuff like this… give us MORE ways to interact with Tyria… give us more reasons to pay attention to npcs and other objects… give us more reasons to theory craft, network, and interact with other players….

You can download “combat mode”. It creates a more active combat feel. A lot of people use it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tjK5OI2oAQ

Isn’t combat mode pretty much a dead project now? The reddit thread for the release of 1.1 has an edit that says “I haven’t supported combat mode for three months now, stop sending me messages asking me to update it.”

I realize it is still useful… but for how long until some change comes along that breaks it?

I just did Rotbeard. Rotbeard is spawned when you open the big chest in the ship at the bottom level, but there is nothing in that chest when you open it. It remains empty after he dies, and I did not see any other large chest appear afterwards.

A chest does appear after you kill him… but if I remember correctly it is just a smaller “splendid” chest off to the side of the room.

Final Rest - Current Theories

Hello all,

I’m slightly tired and have perhaps drunk too much red wine, but I think I may have something which strongly indicates the whereabouts of Final Rest. Either that or it is a giant red herring.

I believe Final Rest is dropped from the chest that spawns when you complete the group event “kill the champion risen megalodon” by the Shipwreck Rock Waypoint at the southern most point of Orr.

The first clue is given quite clearly when you speak to the ghostly crew who have been shipwrecked, right by the waypoint. When speaking to crew member Sjoerd, he says “Orr is no place for the living. Not these days”, to which your reply is “You deserve to REST. May the Spirits of the Wild guide you to your FINAL reward” (my caps). See the attached screenshot.

The second clue is given when you speak to crew member Camelia, who stands by the water and says “I have been doomed to an eternity of constant, sleepless vigil by a monstrous megalodon shark….will you kill it for me?” i.e. will you help end her constant, sleepless vigil and help her to achieve Final Rest? See second attached screenshot.

No one ever does the Megalodon event because frankly it’s underwater and most people (that I know, anyway) avoid underwater combat wherever possible. Not only that but it is in the furthest corner of Orr where people hardly go anyway.

Strongly suggest people start checking this out!

Did this event with my guild 2 times when I first started searching for Final Rest and could convince them to entertain my eccentric questing. It’s a hard event…. can never get anyone in map chat to come help… and there is no chest that I could find either time after completion. I though exactly what you did… “Hey… this sounds perfect…” so I cried to my guildies till three of them came to help me out.

On an unrelated note… I would like to start farming some of these events with a dedicated crew… or at least a crew of people that rotate around when they are available. I’m available to play pretty much every day of the week, and would like to get at least 4 other people who would like to guest and farm a few of these events each day. Whisper me in game or pm me on the forums.

What about the Demagogue? Not many people even know about this event chain.

I discovered it for the first time not long after release… it takes place in a “hidden” area of Toxal Bog in the Brisban Wildlands.

Basically in this little hidden area you are helping ghosts of the Shining Blade fight ghosts of the White Mantle… ultimately culminating in a group even to fight a champion white mantle ghost called the Demagogue.

It also spawns a chest… although both times I have done the event the chest was bugged. (haven’t been back in that area since before the november 15 patch) And I’ve never completed it with a level 80 character.

Also… that little hidden area is one of my favorite areas in the game… so pretty and well designed. Jumping through a giant mushroom maze it is almost like an easy jumping puzzle.

Why would he have the staff though? The Gargoyle theme doesn’t really fit him or the location, IMO. But any guess is better than no guesses at this point.

Who said there have to be gargoyles around? The only gargoyles in the game (gw2) came from the halloween event. And not all of the lore in this game has a direct tie to things from the first. The staff could have its own lore… or no lore at all… it could just be a staff and the hint to its location resides in its name.

The problem with theory crafting based on lore and themes is that we don’t have anything beyond conjecture to solidify those guesses… and that’s what they are… guesses.

We only have 2 clues… I don’t count dubious claims of posters saying they had a conversation with so and so if they don’t have screen shots to back it up or I wasn’t there. Dev comments are much better… and neither of them ever mentioned a gargoyle theme.

bluewanders.5297

I have a very effective method that I use for getting PUG groups of the type of players I prefer to play with.

When I post my LFG I will often add something along the lines of “This is NOT a speed run… all classes welcome… this is a kill run, we will not be skipping mobs. You do not need to be an expert, just don’t be a jerk.”

And then I actually chat with the people I’m about to group with before we enter the dungeon.

I don’t kick for lack of skill… I am more than willing to explain what we need to do, in full sentences… and clarify if need be.

There are two things I kick for… the first is refusing to interact in party chat (or if the extent of your communication is monosyllabic grunts we probably aren’t going to have fun together)… and the second is throwing ridiculous temper tantrums.

I find that while my runs may take a while longer; they are less stressful, have more camaraderie laughs and jokes, and feel much more “fun” than wordless speed runs where no one talks to anyone and the slightest mistake of any kind gets someone going apekitten like a diva with a broken nail.

You can’t control the culture of the game you are in… but you can cultivate the culture you want in the people you surround yourself with.

Just about everything on the tp that has a ridiculous price has followed the same “trend” you are seeing. You can thank the TP Leeches for that one… artificial inflation caused by kitten trading pros “playing the market like a baws with mad skillz”… but hey, anet thinks that is fine and dandy, it’s a game mechanic after all.

If you don’t like it, start a thread complaining so they can all explain supply and demand to you while they “flip” entire supplies of items for 200 and 300 percent profit. It’s legitimate brah… if they already have the money to entirely corner a single item on the market and relist it for a price to the power of 3 or 4, why not? Making money by extorting the poor is a national past time…

Guild Upgrade Pane Bugged

bluewanders.5297

I am the GM of a very small guild, and apparently my client has become bugged.

I am unable to activate built upgrades, upgrades that have finished building are no longer leaving the queue (as seen in the screenshot), and I cannot queue any new upgrades to be built.

This seems to affecting only my client, as other members of my guild are able to activate upgrades, can see what is currently building, and queue new items. In fact… I asked a guild member to activate the “+5% influence for 24 hours” upgrade that is showing as “00:00 built time remaining” on my pane… and he and others confirmed that it is activated. To exacerbate the problem, once it was activated it disappeared completely from my “current upgrades” tab and does not show at all.

Things I tried so far:
I restarted my computer, twice. Just cuz… it’s windows… ya know?
I uninstalled guild wars… rebooted… and installed it again. Upon starting the game the guild pane was EXACTLY as I had left it.

Update:
After some further testing I discovered that this problem is only occurring on my newest character. At least perceptibly anyway… all other characters that I have since logged into are able to see the correct upgrades and have full funtionality. After the next upgrade finishes I will have a look at this again.

There are a lot of places around that feature the words “final rest” and whatnot… here is one of the more interesting ones located in the Brisban Wildlands near hidden lake.

It’s a small graveyard off the beaten path with 10 tombstones and an NPC there to “pay his respects”. Most of the tombstones have to do with ghosts you find in the area that you can talk to (for the heart)… but three of them are not present in the area. Those three also happen to have some lore related dialogue you can go through with the NPC.

I thought this was interesting because other than a skillpoint this entire area seems utterly devoid of DE’s… there is just 1 to clear out a nearby camp that always seems to be bugged (and might open the door to other events if it weren’t)

I hung around the area for about 30 min talking to ghosts watching the one escort DE that finishes nearby and just generally looking for things that might trigger something… but found nothing. I honestly think the “rare” in the hints means that it is a boss fight that doesn’t trigger often due to whatever conditions not being filled or just on a super long timer…

What's your favourite Jumping Puzzle?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

bluewanders.5297

Finding the jump puzzle Goemm’s Lab in Metrica Province was the first experience that really “bonded” me to this game… I was on my very first character… a diminutive Asuran Engineer just running around in my starter area… the game hadn’t truly clicked with me yet, I was still very much evaluating whether I really even liked it or not. Man… I stumbled on that set of stairs hidden behind those vines and entered an area that I was entirely under-leveled for, entirely unprepared for, and had no idea what it was, what it was for, or why it was there.

My little lvl 6 engineer was entirely nude by the time I made it to Goemm, from dying to all those veterans and trying to figure out the mechanics of progression through it… and Goemm was entirely insurmountable. I only had one utility slot open, no armor left, and didn’t really understand all the mechanics of the game (although going through the puzzle quickly taught me to maximize the tools I had in my posession). Wow… the hatred filled fights he and I engaged in until a level 80 character happened to roll through while I was fighting him yet again.

When I made it across to that chest and saw the achievement bar pop up I realized I had just bonded with the game in a way I rarely do these days. It made me feel something… discovery, outrage, hatred and anger, triumph… normally I pass through a game, have a few “oh that’s pretty cool” or “oh this is a fun part” moments and then I’m done, rarely does a game endear itself to me.

That will probably always be my favorite JP in this game… not because I liked it the best… but because I STILL get a rise out of smashing Goemms face in and dancing on his corpse.
