Confusion isn’t broken… you just need to know how to use it. Timing is everything.

“you just have to know how to use it” nab answer. this is what you would say to some1 who just bought gw2 not some1 who have over 900h++ on mes. Btw there’s no you just need to know how to use it, you ball up enemies, shatter, they all have confusion and it only procs once or maybe twice. I love how some people try to sound smart with their “u just have to know how to use it” when it has not trick other than trying to give confusion on max amount of enemies per shatter lolz, so much things to learn from that!!!!

You forgot “Timing is everything.”

You missed mystic cogs.

While true… it is notable that it has been neither confirmed nor denied that cogs won’t be available after the 5th day.

The dev said that after the 5th day we would have enough materials to craft 2 minis… you can assume that means cogs enough for two is all you will get, but that assumption has not been validated, and won’t be till either a new dev post or the 6th day proves it to be true.

Jumping puzzles tips?

in Wintersday

bluewanders.5297

Best advice to give you is: “Calm down.”

The puzzle is timed… but it isn’t that fierce a timer…

Second bit of advice is: “Expect to run it more than once… and begin each run with that expectation.”

Then your sense of peril through the run will be reduced… allowing you to take time to learn how to do the hard jumps… if you fall while working your way through the next bit you haven’t figured out, you are less apt to feel frustrated about it because you weren’t expecting to finish that time anyway.

The word “puzzle” implies many things… but the most important is “incremental progression”… meaning you progress to the end as you solve small challenges along the way.

On to more technical advice… if you aren’t using a mouse, start using one, you cannot expect to do any timed jump puzzle using the keyboard or some awkward multi-finger touchpad movement to turn your camera. Second, remember that you can strafe left and right while in the air to help correct your flight path. Keep your camera pointed more “down” than “forward” so you can better judge the distances between platforms, but not so extreme that you can’t judge vertical differences. Turn off “double tap to dodge”… mostly, all this technical stuff has already been covered… so really my only good bit of advice has been spoken millions of times since the english language was concieved…

Wear what you want to OP… if anyone has a problem with it, they aren’t the sort of players you want to run with anyway.

Condition removals exist in the game… no matter what straw man you stand up… they exist… and you should be using them… because the choice to “ignore my conditions and fight through them” isn’t superior…

Having the element of confusion in fights means you actually have to pay attention to things beyond finding a nice rhythm for spamming your attack buttons.

Or simply do two game modes with a higher risk = greater reward and player ranking bracket.

Problem solved… those who want to complete the puzzle do so without a timer… those who want to compete, challenge themselves, and see their name on a board get that.

Since each of us play on a seperate client in a common instance… it wouldnt be that hard to introduce melting snowflakes for those in “competitive mode” and no melting snowflakes for those in “casual mode”

The princess dolls are the mobs you are talking about… and the reason you are being damaged every time you attack is because they stack a condition called “confusion” on you… this is not a “too difficult” problem… this is a “learn to play” problem… as harsh as that sounds, it is accurate. Start paying attention to the area of your skill bar that provides feedback about what boons and conditions what effects you are currently under, and then take appropriate action. I.E. Try using a condition removal ability… every class has them.

I’ve already finished the grove instance with a 2 man team… it’s not that hard.

And as quick as the dungeon is over… if you want to play it finding a group of people is easy as can be… my first run I had myself and my girlfriend… a quick lfg had more than 20 whispers hitting me at once asking for an invite. 15 minutes later we were done. HARDLY a painful experience.

After that… we did it just the two of us.

I bet there are plenty of people out there who could do it alone… I might try myself later today.

This is an MMO… the emphasis is on group play… you don’t log into a social game to be alone. That’s counterintuitive.

Is there a mesmer bunker build?

in Mesmer

Posted by: bluewanders.5297

bluewanders.5297

Hi guys,

is such a thing possible? Recently I started playing a D/D bunker ele to get a better perspective on how to counter them and was impressed with their versatility, survival and speed of play.

Is there something equivalent on the mesmer side?

Mesmer’s do not make the best bunkers in my opinion due to the fact that they do not have any form of stability. Protection up time can be decent with mesmer if your enemy is too stupid to kill your phantasms that have 500 health once taking note that they are not getting hurt because you’re a vitality/toughness build and your condition stacking is mostly confusion and bleeding and feeble due to needing the extra survivability. This reply is entirely PvP oriented.

All in all, there are many better options for bunkering before mesmer would be considered a good choice. Good bunkers have a lot of boon up-time especially on protection and regen. Mesmer is far too reliant on illusions to be expected to bunker effectively against an intelligent foe.

No form of stability? Read your mantras again… instant cast stability charges with no cast animation.

A phantasmal defender is also decent when used properly for trying to hold a point.

I do agree with you though… we don’t make good bunkers due to our need to avoid damage rather than soak it… that means we have to be mobile and mitigate any damage as much as possible.

Prestige

in Mesmer

Posted by: bluewanders.5297

bluewanders.5297

It is a little ambiguous… but the channel isn’t that long… I use prestige in dungeons and during fights when I need to drop aggro. So three seconds is good for getting my cooldowns back in order. The burn/blast finisher on the end is just pudding for me.

How do YOU apply the scepter?

in Mesmer

Posted by: bluewanders.5297

I sometimes use the scepter as well… and one use that I have for it that I didn’t see skimming this thread is for farming events in orr. The clones appear right next to the mobs which gives me quick aoe shatters for tagging without the clones needing to run in first.

Edit: I meant to say that I use it for many of the same uses I’ve seen in this thread… and one additional as well. When I am farming in orr my typical loadout is scepter/focus and staff… in dungeons I run scepter/torch and staff (sometimes, depends on which dungeon)

Both a great fun with great utility and the ability to switch gears quickly for varied gameplay.

My other 80 is an elementalist… fun, but even with dagger/dagger it just doesn’t arrest my attention as well as the other two.

I found warrior and ranger to be absolutely tedious and bland… deleted them both. Just started a guardian the other day… liking it. Haven’t built up any interest in rolling a thief yet and probably won’t any time soon… just not my style I guess.

Magic find gear worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: bluewanders.5297

bluewanders.5297

Magic find equipment is worth it as long as you don’t sit in the same zone all day killing the same things.

Move around to different maps for your farming/killing… and party up, you get significantly better drops when in a party, and you kill things faster meaning you get “more” drops per minute.

So signet of locust, air and the hunt are....

in Mesmer

bluewanders.5297

Sounds great to have more reliable means of swiftness… as long as it is known that there is not a single utility skill I would willingly give up to run faster.

I also very much dislike the focus, and hate that my only means of moving faster is using a weapon set I dislike.

Edit: How about a new utility though… we already have a phantasmal defender and enchanter and such… how about a phantasmal runner? “summon a phantasmal sprinter who grants you swiftness for 20 seconds every 30 seconds out of combat and fury for 6 seconds every 12 seconds in combat” or something along those lines Or how about phantasmal meme? “summon a phantasmal meme that makes you run faster and cripples enemies by shooting them with an arrow in the knee”

Combat roles, no trinity...

bluewanders.5297

On a side note. Yesteday, we fought that elite giant in Ascalon, who takes the town.
Ok-ok its only lv 20 but still a good proof why this was a lie.
We go there try him on 3-totall fail.
We ask others and soon we had like 10 players and started dealing some minor dmg atleast.
The boss itself was easy-Aoe fear-Throw boulder (easy to dodge)-linear stomp, harder to avoid but easy to see-

and a nasty stomp that basically leaves you 10% hp dehending on situation.
I was unsure i avoid full dmg because i dodges, or because i was out of range. But it was quite hard to spot the stomp that basically insta gibbed ppl in range, even guardians.
But even still, it would not have been a problem, if we had a SINGLE ANYONE that can atleast heal 10-20% hp somethimes.
But no! There was no class araund that could do that. No Nekro, no mantra mesmer, no shouter warr, nothing. Ok there are no builds early in the game. But dont classes should have -non self heals or support besides traits and 1-2 skills thay happen to have from class?
I mean you sead all classes can do anything. They clearly can not.

Another thing inoticed on boss fight.
Melee is a kittened up “job”. I had 95% biger chance to die when i melee ed.
I basically only popped 3-4 hits and had to roll avay, vanish, shadowstep and so on. And i still needed luck to live.
Range is a lot more revarding and some classes do it better.
Is that just? If we have no “trinity” then why do some classes perform better in some areas?
I should be able to trait to range as thief the same way. I can? Maybe, but propably not with 10 lv outdated weapons……ooo its not gear dephendant? Wait it is not, i can still kill stuff, but like 5 times slower, and have to struggle each fight. When i have decent gear i just sit back and auto attack.

I have killed that very giant with only 1 other player at 2am. We didn’t have teamspeak or vent or any of that. We ran into each other randomly… asked in /say if we wanted to try for a challenge… told each other the basics of what we were going to do and when… and then face rolled that dude with only 2 downs on our side.

Learn your conditions, when to time them… what to use them for.

Learn to use dazes and interrupts…

Learn to watch your opponent and manage your endurance and cooldowns to have what you need up when you see the baddie about pull off a big hit.

Learn to switch out your utilities… not every fight requires the same tools out of the box…

Carry one of every available weapon your class can use… learn what they are good for… and change them out when needed.

Lastly… learn to communicate with all the “player bots” around you… strategize, tell them what you are good at and the role you can take on during that fight… then do your job.

We don’t need healers… we do need coordination… we don’t need cookie cutter “roles”… we need more communication and flexibility. Zergging is what is boring… you create your own challenges. If all you are doing is spamming your auto-attack because “nothing else really works” then you need to learn to manage the skills available to you better… and get away from the “needz 500 moar players to auto-attack dis baddie” mentality.

Crafting is not profitable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: bluewanders.5297

bluewanders.5297

I love the responses. Some argue that it’s for leveling only and not to generate player wealth. Others are making gold hand over fist. One thing for sure is that crafting has not found its home in GW2. And, having supported myself well in another MMO through farming/crafting, I can tell you the farming/crafting thing just is not happening in GW2 at the current time. What it takes to farm mats is not even practical given the crafting recipes if you are not playing 12 hours a day.

If you aren’t farming on a team you are doing it wrong… MUCH better and more frequent drops of rarer items when you work with a farming group. Plus its faster and you get MORE loot… because you kill more things in a shorter period of time. Also… knowing where to farm for what, and not over farming it is really important to avoid the DR.

I haven’t leveled a craft yet… but I farm with a guildie who is a crafter and have him use my mats to craft stuff for the tp… I’ve made good sums of gold this way (upwards of 4 and 5 gold a day for an hour or two of farming), and so has he…

What's happening to GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: bluewanders.5297

bluewanders.5297

Yeah… I’m one of those players that run around with 2-3 gold… and nothing deposited in the bank. It doesn’t bother me because I don’t need “instant” gratification… I play to play, not to get mad lewtz. I have a full set of exotics including 3 exo weapons, all of them named exos, not just “knights” or “rampagers”… I’ve only been in the game for about a month and a half… I don’t play 8 hours a day, I haven’t bought any gems and I’m only lvl 6 on the fractals. I don’t hardcore farm anything… go to a map and work on completion… I go to my favorite spots to get T6 mats and spend 30 min or so in each one then be off… run a dungeon or two if I can find a pug…

I also play wvw and keg brawl (when I can find someone to play with)… I’ve made plenty of money just playing, no grind required. To be exact… each piece of my named exo armor cost around 5-6 gold a piece, I also have 2 named staves, a named sword, a named focus, and a named trident.

The process is simple… I’m working on my second set of armor now… I research HOW to get that piece… if it is craftable I work on getting the mats needed by playing in areas that drop those mats… if it drops from a particular event I make sure to play that event at least once a day. The loot isn’t the point, the play is.

Play on a team that understands their classes and skills, and how to use them… a team that actually makes use of combo fields and changes their utilities between big fights… a team that communicates, develops a strategy, and then executes it…..

The first step in understanding the depth of the combat in GW2 is to get rid of the zerg mentality… the second step is to drop the FOO strategies… and the third step is to look for places to challenge yourself and your team. Speed runs that don’t include skipping content… taking on group DE’s that most people swear you need 50 players for… killing bosses with a goal of no downs…

We need more options in the sound menu. I never leveled my necro past 18 because the sound of the staff auto-attack becomes so thoroughly annoying after 20 minutes game time that I couldn’t stand to play him anymore. That doesn’t mean I should have to turn off all other sounds… I still want to be able to hear what my team is doing in a dungeon so I can try to synergize with them, and of course there is more than just animation to enemy attacks.

Should Orr be toned down a little?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: bluewanders.5297

bluewanders.5297

Orr is just fine… I solo farm there often… wearing magic find armor and a magic find weapon with superior sigil of luck. It takes a little work to move through the zone… but I am a reaper, I kill everything in range, often attacking before even the acolytes aggro on to me. My mesmer barely bats an eye.

As long as you enter the zone intending to move through it like a warzone and not to be “left alone” for a sunday morning walk… you’ve got the right mindset for farming there. If you just want to be left alone and remain unmolested while you suck up everything the zone has to offer… try going someplace that isn’t in the middle of an open war.

Edit: I did forget to mention that I do feel the events in Orr need to be rebalanced to accomodate smaller groups of people. There is no reason people should have to spam for hours in map chat looking to get a group of 50 or more to take a temple. I was in Malchors Leap today working on map completion and solo’d some of the the Cathedral… but even after about 15 more people showed up seeing something was happening up there the boss was still impossible. Because while fighting the boss they also expect you to keep teams at each of the platforms (which become under danger so frequently that you can’t run between them fast enough to prevent the fight starting over.)

If that isn’t an acceptable solution to scale the events better… then give us underflows so that we can actually finish some of these massive events.

No such thing as healing power/toughness/vitality gear, so there probably isn’t a massive DPS difference between a cleric that stays in all the time, and a berserker that assuming he isn’t faceplanted all the time, still has to dodge every auto-attack.

A berserker staying at range kind of defeats the purpose of it; Why would you purposely neuter your DPS and wear an equipment set thats meant to boost it?

Off the top of my head I can think of at least 1 set of exotics with power/toughness/vitality stats…. the Ascalonian Catacombs armor. I think one of the other dungeons offers it too.

How I would Revise Mantras

in Mesmer

Posted by: bluewanders.5297

bluewanders.5297

I like the mantras.

for instance I can pop my healing mantra or the mantra of resolve even when I’m doing something else like rezzing someone.

And mantra of distraction is absolutely stellar for interrupting big hits during boss fights in dungeons and taking on champs.

Once they are charged they are instant cast… that means you can pop any mantra you want while doing other things, even if that other thing is recharging another mantra.

The channel times are not that bad either… play elementalist sometime if you want to know what a long cast time is. Churning earth takes a ridiculously long time to fire off and requires you to root yourself while you do so. A lot of the ele spells that channel require you to stand still. With the mesmer you can continue moving during the relatively short channel time.

edit: I forgot to say that I do agree they need a passive recharge option, possibly a trait that adds the ability to add charges for each mantra by fulfilling certain requirements, and prevent it from being OP by having it only add charges when the mantra is already prepared.

I have, for the most part, greatly reduced the amount of time I devote to looking at MMO forums. And the reason for this is represented in a couple of shining examples in this thread alone.

The raging ridiculously melodramatic hyperbole that suffuses through the forum… it is distasteful.

There is nothing wrong with expressions of ones feelings… providing criticisms… or anything along those lines…

The problem is when you log on see what the Lost Shores content is all about hoping to see some discusion of the pros and cons and instead see something along the lines of:

“Anet hires nothing but liars…. they ruined the game…. this game is going down… those devs violated me, gave my grandma cancer, pissed in my cheerios, and kicked my puppy. They said no gear treadmill… they are still saying no gear treadmill… but they only responded once with this answer even though there were 53 threads about the gear treadmill, so they aren’t communicating with us and they are liars!!!! Burn them!!! Unite my brothers and rise up against the evil corporations stealing our lives away!!!! We hates them… don’t we precious?”

And yes… I know that is an exaggeration… but all you have to do is thumb through the now mostly useless forum to see examples of this sort of sophomoric ridiculousness. Is it any wonder they have stopped posting as much? It doesn’t matter WHAT they post… the majority of replies they get are ridiculous.

OP is right… the forums here are much less pleasant than they used to be. And all those preaching hellfire and damnation just don’t get that all the gross exaggeration and hyperbole doesn’t affect the changes they want to see… it only weakens the whole through acidic erosion.

Protip: It’s ok to be dissatisfied and express it… just don’t do it in laughably dramatic ways like you were born on the set of General Hospital. If you aren’t being constructive… then you are being destructive.

The EA answer is SO simple…
