I’m still not sure I see the basis of this thread.. saying someone is “being rewarded for a 5 month break” is complete BS. IT IS CALLED LUCK. There is no system to give MF to people who don’t log in for a certain period of time.
Except there is, and it’s called ‘Diminishing returns’ and I personally don’t believe it’s working correctly, or is bugged in its current state.
It’s plainly visible with the new event hologram mobs. Problem is, DR is not resetting, and could also be impacting what’s inside dragon coffers as well, as shown by the fair-weather players who already have their tickets, and die-hards who don’t.
That is incorrect. You are explaining a system of REDUCED MF for someone who is farming the same mobs/same spot in the same zone for a period of time. I am explaining that there is NOT a system where someone’s MF is boosted over the normal for not longing in. IE, Not logging in for 2 months = 500% base MF.
I’m trying to say, that if I don’t log in today and you do, when I log in tomorrow we will have the same base magic find or “luck factor”. If I don’t log in for 3 weeks and do you every day, you and I will still have the same base magic find on that day.
I do apologize if I didn’t explain clear enough in my OP.
When all of the mechanics are obfuscated by the developers, how do you know?
Look, it’s our job as players to point out inconsistencies in gameplay, and that’s all we can offer, our experiences. If it feels wrong to someone that’s their valid opinion! We all know what the dev’s told us, but there have been numerous times that things have worked differently for the game creators unbeknownst to them apart from the general populus. Some of these problems kill games, some don’t, some have been found and fixed, some die with the game they ruined.

kRiza krimosYea it gets like that when you’r used to get everything you want.
It has nothing to do with greed. RNG is just a terrible system as it creates an unfair playing field due to being completely based on random chance. If skins could be acquired through skill, say by winning tickets through the playing and winning of Dragon Ball matches or being a top 3 player x many times, it would be far more satisfying as you have stuff to look forward to that is achieveable if you put in a bit of effort and acquire skill.
RNG causes some people to get 3 weapon tickets after having acquired 25 boxes and others to have none after 500+ opened chests.
Because RNG is the only thing that balances out people with tons of time to play and people that get almost no time to play. Thanks to RNG – both have equal chances – take note of the word “chances” – to get the item.
Umm, no. Someone that can farm coffers 10 hours a day has a much better chance than someone that can farm them for 5 hours on the weekend. The afore mentioned will open many, many more coffers than the weekend guy.
Except that the person that has farmed 10 hours a day now has DR and receives almost no boxes.
I’ve been farming the event for boxes, opening about 2k of them now and I have no ticket. My multiple friends who haven’t even logged in for a week got 5 boxes and already have their ticket.
Move to another area.
Yeah… except that you move to another area and still receive the same DR drop rate because the boxes are worldwide.

It’s not even RNG at this point.
It’s rewarding players who don’t play everyday with better loot drops and rates. There are players in my guild who show up and play every day and get nothing, but the guys who maybe play once a week log in and get showered in exotics and drops.
A guy just came back from a 4+ month hiatus and we welcomed him back as if he never left to come reap the benefits of the hard work we’ve put in to the guild content, and he gets exotics in all the events we did.
If you want to have nice things in GW2, you have to not play it.

Remember the Mad King’s Clock Tower? That’s the way to reward people… Imagine if the chest a the top rewarded one of the dragon weapon skins… I’d be ok if you could only do it once per account. Right now, getting a weapon skin all about luck.
Yes. But better yet, have multiple ways for people to accomplish the same goal via skill.
Jumping puzzle master? You get a ticket.
Farming god" You get a ticket.
PvE Boss Buster? You get a ticket.
Scavenger Hunter Extraordinaire? You get a godkitten ticket.

Hey, awesome. Hostility.
I’m not sure what reading comprehension you are thinking I lack when this very thread’s OP suggests that they do this knockdown with only some of their attacks. Others even point out not noticing it. I sure didn’t have knockdown issues when I played the instance.
There’s no entry for these enemies yet on the wiki that helps players by listing their attack skills.
And since I cannot replay it, I cannot get in there to sit on a thug enemy in melee range and give the attacks 100% attention.
Because you think they knockdown on every single attack, though, I totally should have read your post after making mine so that I wouldn’t suggest to dodge (since blind was already suggested) a melee enemy!
edit: What’s more, you can dodge attacks bey not being in range of them as well! Give that a try if they’re a pain — the friendly NPCs can take shots to the face instead.
No, you really deserve some hostility. You came in with the arrogant airs of assuming everyone is so bad that they don’t even know how to dodge.
Some people aren’t experiencing this, yes, but as one person who didn’t have the psychic foresight of knowing that a mob would be able to chain knockdowns, I didn’t think that needing a ranged weapon would be necessary, and secondly since no other mobs in this game chain stun, I didn’t think I’d need dungeon-level escape mechanisms to deal with a solo holiday instance. Also, it’s kind of hard to get to ranged once you’re knocked down. and again. and again… and the NPC’s? Heh. as usual they’re pretty useless at anything except aggroing more mobs.
Don’t backpedal acting like you didn’t mean to come in here like an kitten and that I’m the bad guy for calling you out on it. Man up and accept you were being a kitten.
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
I think one of the reasons it isn’t repeatable is because the enemies drop bags with high tier crafting materials. People would get very rich very quickly if they could repeat it. That’s probably also partly why it’s solo – to stop people from de-doing it with their friends.
I only got 2 dragon coffers and a grey. :C
No loot mobs that instant-vanish on death are not much fun.
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
Or maybe dodge?
The mob can choose to knock you down with every attack. Every. Single. Attack. No cooldown. I guess you’re so pro that you have 35+ dodges to deal with that, hrm?
Perhaps you should try some reading comprehension before you go posting on the forum next time.

to many ppl think like this hard match PVE TIME. Should look at it as a challenge and do ur best winning means nothing loosing also means nothing if ur having fun doing ur best
“Having fun doing your best” – Getting steamrolled. Ok great definition.
Honestly I wish CD could vote “No Contest” and get locked out of WvW but gain 5-10% server bonuses. It’d be a better strategy to deny the other servers loot and badge opportunities than anything else we’re doing.
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
Been playing less every day, even skipping days because it’s just daily tedium at this point. Loot rates are so low and unrewarding that even with 300+ MF you still get streaks of 10-20 mobs with nothing to show for it. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
I never did the Lyssa farm or Plinx/Penitent/Shelter and etc, but I do go out looking for specific mats if I’m wanting to make a specific item. I wanted to make a full MF set, so I started farming claws. Hours later and with 1-2 claws in my inventory, I was pretty kitten ed.
It’s not mindless farming or whatever the shallow anti-farming advocates in this thread say, it’s simply having a goal, and working towards it. Don’t criticize people with agendas for wanting to accomplish something instead of smelling the flowers.
This thread: “You shouldn’t have nice things because you’re willing to work for them.” what. the. kitten.

Ok, so, how much MF do i need for good loot? Like rares and lodestones? 100%?
Like… an impossible to achieve amount. You can run around with 300%+ right now and get shut out from decent loot in 20 minutes or less because of DR.
To get guaranteed loot? Probably like 2000% which won’t happen for like 2+ years.

At this rate we should be able to kill every mob, every dragon and every source of evil for the next 100 years via diabetes by the end of the month. So much worthless candy.
(Yes I know you can turn candy into candy into wings, but by the time you get that much candy , you’re likely to have had wings drop already)
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
I can warp around across the map, fight different types of mobs, be continually moving and after 20 minutes or so, my drop rate shoots straight into the gutter.
I popped everything I could for a good hour of dragon coffer farming and it was great – until DR kicked in. I was playing normally, or at least what I consider to be normal… and if you have an hour long magic find buff you tend to run around for an hour rampantly killing everything.
This seems really counterintuitive for these hour long buffs to only be worth the first 20 minutes.

You only ever have to grind for aesthetics in this game, getting a full set of exo gear and jewelry is easy and does not need to be grinded for.
Lol not really. If you think running around trying to find what is it…
16 orichalcum bars::32 orichalcum ore::11 orichalcum nodes
to make ONE accessory isn’t grindy… HAH. Maybe if all the nodes were visible once you entered the zone and half weren’t with vets/champs sitting on them… not to mention the gems, which are a completely separate crapshoot if you don’t want to support the horrible flipping minigame—-I mean trading post economy.

Running 215% MF, averaging about one set of wings per day before DR makes me log off in disgust. Coffer and wing drop rate is nice up until then though.
Avoid the Holos, they’ll just make your dr hit faster and are a waste of time.
What the HELL. Are you serious? That’s awesome. How did you get your MF up that high? I have yet to see a single ticket or wings and I’ve openned thousends of boxes. I guess MF does count toward DR in this case.
I haven’t got a ticket yet, and the wings come straight from the mobs, haven’t got any from the boxes.

They didn’t change the drop rate. Because if they did, then I wouldn’t be getting 1-2 coffers per kill on those holo mobs. And no, I’m not joking, I almost always get a coffer from them.
The first two days I did as well. However, that is no longer the case, and it is obvious to me anyway that the drop rate is lowered.
Also, I am well aware that developers and publishers pay people from the deep web to constantly contradict accurate complaints on forums. It is clear that is happening as well.
It’s sad to see what is happening to what was such a great hobby for me when this game was released.

So pretty much the people who are complaining were the ones who were immediately AOEing them to death the instant they appeared and making it so that anyone else who wanted to do it couldn’t.
I don’t particularly see the issue here. Thanks ANet for a small window of opportunity for those of us who don’t play those classes.
The people complaining are the classes that don’t have 600 radius aoes available every 30 seconds who have to:
1. Trigger the hologram
2. get knocked back (can skip with stability)
3. watch mobs wander off invincible for 3 seconds
4. get hit by the alpha strike from all of these invincible mobs after 2 seconds (they’re still invincible!)
5. go killing each mob one by one unless you have a pull while getting nuked from the other mobs
6. repeat ad nausaeum
People complained selfishly instead of just chilling out and waiting a week until people will be walking past the holograms going “Oh, those are still in game?”, now everyone has to suffer. Great job everyone! >:C

Please, anything except the 8-bit and xmas mobs, being invincible for 10 seconds, all going in a different direction and then alpha striking you.
They don’t need more health or to wander away or anything that makes it harder on us as a whole… Just make them spawn faster and people won’t be so angry that they missed one.

I was still getting 2 coffers on average a little while ago. 1 to 3 from each spawn. I don’t have any MF gear on.
Overall, I think this was a big improvement, not a nerf. Made the holos actually doable without camping one over and over.
Didn’t read a word of that post, did ya?

I wish we could get everyone to use the karma vendor molechav kittentails or some of the in-game items to tag mobs in this case…
Though I dunno if the fire damage would screw some people over with not ticking? Burning is weird.

The 8 bit boxes “worked” and the sonic devices “worked” – the holo-emitters don’t.
You could take the holograms in either direction: simply buff them up (8-bit mobs) or make each one farmable only once a day, and/or have them spawn events (sonic devices); but something should be done.
I think #1 is more likely, easier to implement, and sufficient.

62.5g assuming worst case scenario in which you still win 3rd place.
ehhhm,
why is 3rd place worst case scenario for you???
4th and 5th place is worst case…. you dont win anything then so the price could be 500g too with bad luck or not???
3rd place is the worst case scenario in which you still win. Of course it could technically cost you infinite gold if you’re unlucky.

Yes, I know a majority of the forum seems to just have gobs of dosh laying around from exploiting game bugs, exploiting other players (bltc) and CoFp1 spamming, but really…
This is ridiculous:
- Mini costs 125 racing tokens.
- You earn a maximum of 7 tokens for winning a moa race. 3 for 2nd, 1 for third.
- You have a 20% chance of winning (un-alterable)
- It costs 50s per bet.
- You only earn money if you turn in your tokens for winner’s bags. Saving your tokens for the mini earns you nothing.
That is an absolute minimum of 9g you would have to spend assuming that you won 1st EVERY round (which you won’t) – and 62.5g assuming worst case scenario in which you still win 3rd place.
Anyone else feel this is a bit excessive for a mini?
It’s not as bad as what you make it out to be. Assuming each moa has a 20% chance of winning, for each race you have:
- 1/5 chance at 7 tokens
- 1/5 chance at 3 tokens
- 1/5 chance at 1 token
- 2/5 chance at 0 tokens
This averages out to 2.2 tokens won per race. The mini will require about 57 races or 28.4g on average. With each race cycle lasting slightly over 3 minutes, it should take approximately 3 hours of betting to acquire 125 tokens. Naturally the RNG element will result in some players requiring more and some less.
For players not saving for the mini, 2.2 tokens won per race will return 44s, resulting in a net loss of 6s per race over the long run.
My problem isn’t the odds, it’s that they put in a negligible money sink that only the super-rich can afford with rewards that are geared more towards casual players.
This game just doesn’t make sense. (Outside of buy gems > get stuff.) >:C

Jerk.
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
But calling everyone bad because they make money is just silly, we aren’t all magically lucky though luck plays a part and its name is RNG. We aren’t all exploiters (at least I’m not, never exploited or played the TP) and we aren’t all out to kill everyone’s hopes and dreams either. Not everyone is doing better than you, some are probably doing worse than you. Some are doing better/worse than me, that is just the way of things. If you think that exploiting and playing the TP is the only way people make money than you just have to experiment for yourself on better ways, because clearly they are not. It isn’t the game that needs to change, it is the mentality of the gamer when it comes to things like this. Everything in GW2 is basically simple and easy, leveling, crafting, gearing, so people tend to get comfortable and when they actually want something and have to work hard for it, something seems off. That is just the feeling I get from forums anyway.
Oh look, another condescending message from Geotherma. Obviously I must be doing something wrong because his perceived experiences are different than mine.
Look man. I wish I could block/ignore you on these forums because this is EVERY post you make. You put words into people’s mouths, you try to portray that you have the higher moral ground, and then you blather some irrelevant white-knight manifesto.
I didn’t call anyone bad, although I believe the exploiter’s morals are bad. Did everyone exploit? Probably not, but then you managed to ignore the third portion of that sentence mentioning CoF. If you haven’t exploited or flipped or run CoF, you don’t have enough money to bother talking about. This event only shows that. If you have 50g to toss as a single mini without blinking an eye, you’re obviously part of the problem.
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
In your opinion these are the only ways for us players to have made money? Exploiting, ripping people off, or doing a speed dungeon? The majority really?
That and gems, but why bother mentioning that. My drop rate is so abysmal, I can’t make any money by actually playing the game, and since everyone else says ‘OH! Random is random!" I’d be fair to believe that everyone else’s drop rates are terrible as well.
The players that I know that are exploiting the markets are the same ones who didn’t get the axe from the karma and winter exploits. So yes, from my experiences these are the only real ways to earn money.
But I know you’re going to argue my opinion, so go ahead. Tell me that my experiences are the absolute kitten bottom of the barrel bad luck and that everyone else is doing so much better just because rng favors them. Tell me I should keep trying after 10 months instead of accepting that the game is broken as hell or that perhaps you’re just lucky and don’t really care about anyone else or any generalized idea of fairness.
go. right. ahead.

Instead on using only carnival like games of chance to obtain a item. Anet should use other methods for rewards like tokens to exchange for tickets, buy item from gem store, event participation.
Neverwinter handles this kinda nicely, their version of Black Lion Boxes reward a separate currency inside if you don’t receive a rare item. Save that currency up and buy rare things at various prices. Though their keys don’t have a chance at dropping in-game. (Like BL keys do. Right? LOL /cry /wrists)

I really hope that if they do have RNG at play in the Rich Dragon Coffers, that it’s a high chance. I think that the shield, axe and greatsword are some of the best looking skins the game has offered yet, and I’m hopeful that the other weapons will be just as impressive. For someone who has a bunch of 80s and may want a staff, axe, shield, shortbow and hammer, a low chance RNG distribution mechanism is unrealistic, chances are you’ll be lucky to get one of them. But if Rich Coffers are a high chance, and you get one on average for every 1600 gems or so, I think they’ll make a killing on this skin set.
My wife would probably club me over the head, but I’d be willing to spend $20 each on the weapons I mentioned if the skins are all as impressive as the shield and axe are.
Don’t do it. Even if it is a good chance, it’s still a chance, and we want to stop the message that we’re ok with RNG. Unless you’re guaranteed something, don’t give them money!

i have some friends that play gw2 that doesnt come to the game anymore because they have nothing to do in the game
I think this is everyone’s friend list atm. Mine is a ghost town most of the time these days, but don’t get discouraged. Stick it out for a while longer, I have a feeling we may be getting some content with some meat on it coming down the pipe soon.
I try to give MMO’s the benefit of the doubt these days. I’m giving Anet a few more months of me doing the daily and WvW. By then they should have more in game for us to do I believe.
Maybe you just make friends that play the same way you do. And I make friends that play the same way I do, because my friends list hasn’t substantially changed at all…except that it’s grown. Most of the people here at launch are still here.
How much do they pay you by the way? I may change my tone if the price is right too.
If they paid me, I probably wouldn’t work this hard. That’s like asking a football fan how much the team pays him to be a fan. Silly question when you think about it.
This is exactly right, I have seen multiple people ask him the same question, I think Vayne is just an Anet employee using a basic email account to post on the forums. He never criticizes anything anything about Anet or NcSoft, just sticks up for them and he spends way to much time in the forums to be in game…
TROLL.
I suspect there are a lot of corporate shills on this board disguised as blind superfans, because they show up in EVERY thread about these problems.

i read that you guys dont have any plans for a expansion but its getting repetetive and players are getting tired and tired of playing , most players now log 5 mins do the daily and leaveSo iam i the only one that thinks that the game needs a expansion right now ?
Stop asking for an expansion.
Ask for:
- Class balance
- Permanent content
- RNG/DR fixes
- Dungeon reworks
- New game mechanics
- Anything
…but don’t ask for an “expansion”!!!
When you ask for an expansion, what you’re saying is: “I like the current state of the game and want more of what we currently have!” It means you like getting kitten on by rng and broken mechanics and the current state of risk/reward – which should not be the case. This game has problems huge ones and simply slapping a band-aid of ‘expansion’ on it isn’t going to stop the internal bleeding fast enough.
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
I spent 30 minutes killing things in Orr several days ago. Just logged in so no DR involved. I hope.
Killed about 90 undead creatures.
Loot? 4-5 gray items.
Now tell me this is RNG.
That’s their ever magical mystical kitten DR machine at work.
If you log in in the same zone you logged out from, DR seems to continue, even if it’s a new day you can get shafted on Dragon Chests if you park a character at a specific event. Gotta pay that 3s teleport ‘GIEV ME MONEE’ tax to get your loots.

If we didn’t want players to be able to farm, we wouldn’t have put in the huge (and free) magic and gold find buffs for Southsun Cove.
Even though the rng is still broken and some people continually receive less than others day in, day out.
We wouldn’t drop loot from the giant mobs of creatures that appear in upscaled events.
Yeah, half of those mobs don’t actually drop loot anymore. They just vanish on death even though they sure have one hell of an alpha strike. Maybe 3-5 out of every mob of 10 actually can drop loot in those events, and even with 450% MF, only maybe 1/5th of them drop anything, or greys.
We certainly wouldn’t have put in chests that appear after events which cycle every 8 to 10 minutes.
Yeah, y’all got rid of those too. Instigators are gone and none of the defend events have chests.
How quickly all of that content goes completely forgotten in the angered responses to a simple change to an area that was clearly bugged. :/
Forgetting content that is now gone. Ok. I dunno, the forum has a definite right to be angry, especially now that it seems the development team isn’t quite sure as to what is in their own game. I’m not mad or critical at you specifically, but the situation we’re in as players is infuriating.

1. There better be dragons that are loot pinatas.
2. Make it rain loot.
3. Stop with the rng boxes.

Isn’t one of the achievements left is to protect the consortium workers/documents?
I’m guessing that the living story is going to end in a stalemate, that some of the settlers are freed from the consortium’s hold, but it’ll be in a perpetual limbo of new people blindly signing up since the information about how bad it is doesn’t really get to leave the island (perhaps Kasmir?).
Anyways, it could be plausible that the instigator events stay. I hope they do since orr is terrible now. Nice events to go to with no long strings of lootless trash in between. Sadly the most player-rewarding gameplay in GW2 for a long time. (Which isn’t saying much.)

I was more interested in the psychotic downfall of the omelette achievement Sylvari than Canach.
Seeing her whole crew gone and her conversing with straw men. The feels. :C

Its just a boss encounter, not a entire dungeon.
And yes, noll is nasty and boring, if he pushed you to a trap you are bouncing until death.
After the great Boss of F&F fundation this was meh.
Molten Facility was handled by a different team than the usual dungeon team, wasn’t it?
I wonder if there will be a shift in their design philosophy for dungeons. MF was the most fun I’ve had in a dungeon since I left other MMOs.
It feels like the game is being pulled in two directions by two separate in-company entities.
We have the developers, who want to actually put out great content and rewards (SAB, F&F Dungeon, Molten Mining Pick) then we have the cash grab monetization division who doesn’t give a kitten and just wants to separate a fool from his money. (Southsun Boxes, Consortium Harvesting Water Pick, etc.)
I think it’s time we discern which content is made by which group from the get-go and vote with our wallets. If it’s not rewarding (either by entertainment/intrinsic value or by gold/loot/etc!) then just don’t bother with it.

I can’t even get the mines to respond with the wrong button. I have to be standing 1mm from the reticle, not targeting anything, facing EXACTLY at the mine and even then 80% of the time it won’t work.

…and better yet, don’t even be mad at NCSoft, because the cash that’s gone in to these crates (and other things) have given them enough to give the nod for a GW2 expansion.
Why in hell would anyone want an expansion if it’s more of this RNG cash grab crap?

40 crates with no ticket or even mini. I got all my crates from farming only.
Only have received 3 crates from farming. Not giving any more RNG box money after the F&F disappointment.
Fool me twice…
