Definition: “High Chance” – (org: Guild Wars 2.) Having a shot in the dark chance of getting something (you won’t.) while fighting a constant stream of nerfs to anything that could possibly be fun or worth your time.

Synonyms:

  • Where’s my kittening loot?
  • This wasn’t worth the teleport.
  • kittenty greens again?!
  • Oh look, the same person who got a Precursor a week ago got another one.
  • When the kitten is Wildstar coming out?

so guaranteed 20 silver and a chance on an exotic/ precursor just isn’t worth the teleport cost, just because? Having in mind that Wildstar is being published by the same company and we really don’t know their policies about farming I doubt that farmers are actually asking that.

Chance being a very loose term. Still since the November 15th patch I don’t feel that I have had any “chance” to receive nice things in this game. I play with friends, we do the same events, I get less. DR kicks me in the nuts every time I try to kill more than 20 mobs relatively close to each other. One day a month I get decent drops for an extremely short period, and then nothing until next month.

Not being able to actively work towards a goal due to RNG is the worst mechanic in existence. Wonderful, you get your box full of trash and go home disappointed yet again. People will only go home empty-handed so many times before they give up.

Wildstar has already shown video of their normal mobs dropping loot. That’s more than I can say some days with GW2.

Stop being such an obvious shill.

I’ve been to malchor’s leap today to get the farmers away from there. What kind of impression do you think you give a new player when he goes to finish a temple event to buy his first ever pair of exotics and gets chased away by people swearing at him, because they want the event not completed and the temple not open so that they could continue getting sweet lootz?
If you want to farm go and do it in places where it doesn’t affect other players or ruin our world. Like the easy to run dungeon paths or go and kill mobs somewhere in the open world. Do not stop events from progressing and do not try to stop people completing them.

Now there’s close to 20 events in the world that give you a guaranteed rare (see ecto and yellow prices – those are falling because of easy to get rares and rewarding world events) the same events have a high chance to drop a unique exotic or a precursor.

On Lottery (RNG) Boxes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

bravoart.5308

Turns out these boxes are pretty much in every game. I can’t say for every mmo but i know for sure:
GW2
Tera
FFXI
Aion

It appears that people generally are okay with RNG boxes dropping epic things at chance. Just wanted to add that info. And again, they are optional.

People don’t decide that, companies do, people just fall for it, because the scammy part about it is so hidden.

What exactly is hidden?

Spend X gems at a chance to get X,Y,Z items. Some items are rarer than others and harder to obtain. Missing the scam part there? You pay, you get a reward. It is only hidden to people who must clearly be completely blind and naive to think chance = guarantee. If you can read the description, you understand the chances. A scam is where people deceive you, only people deceived are clearly not paying attention.

I agree there is nothing hidden about it. Anyone who thinks that the chance of getting something rare is anything but vanishingly small is engaging in wishful thinking. In fact, it is that realization that means I will never spend money on RNG items, whether they be fluff, cosmetic or game-breaking. If the latter type of item exists, it’s hasta la vista, baby.

What’s hidden is the actual chance.

We don’t know whether it’s 1/50 or 1/1000. Allowing people to decide whether the gamble is worth their money is an integral part of fairness in the system. RNG boxes are a shot in the dark.

Honestly I wish I could /ignore some of the posters on here, because you’re white-knighting to the point that you seem like shills.

First, I have been playing GW2 Since beta and I truly love this game.
I decided yesterday that I’ve been playing for quite some time and I haven’t contributed enough for what the game is worth to me. So I proceeded to purchase $60 US dollars worth of Gems.
I used $40 of that to purchase these new Southsun “Supply Crates”. I wasn’t expecting mini pets or really rare items, but i was expecting at least one sclerite weapon skin ticket, Let me tell you, these “crates” are exactly what they say they are. Supplies, that’s it. For$40 dollars i recieved.
Passion Flowers
Passion Fruits
Karka Shells
and two mobile crafting stations…

This is TOTALLY ridiculous…
Being unlucky is one thing but $40 for mats I can just farm in the area that I’m in anyway? Shame on you.
It makes me sick just thinking about how many unsuspecting players have done the same thing just to be rewarded with basic materials…

Joke’s on you, unless you’re lucky, you can’t farm them either. Been running around with a max of 503% mf since day 1 of the patch and I’ve only got one box.

If devs don’t start taking this discrepancy seriously, a lot of unlucky people are going to up and leave, or just stop giving them money, which is just as bad.

Mystic Forge and RNG....maddening...

One clover in 100 attempts just isn’t possible. You mean you went 0 for 10 on the 10 clover recipes? That sucks but isn’t terribly unusual. You should have got a bunch of T6 mats back from missing a lot.

Also, when you willingly roll the dice and lose, take responsibility for losing. This isn’t a fused ticket. It’s mystic clovers. Anet has always left it the same. Many people have legendaries (myself included) and have taken data to know that, basically, 0 for 100 rolls is less likely than mystic forging a precursor.

How the heck is this even a valid answer?

We argue that RNG is bad, and I always get the smart kitten remark of “random is random!” but you can say 1 in 100 clover attempts isn’t possible. Welp… it is! Random is random!

Gah. The people that have their things sure are unwilling to recognize glaring problems that affect other people.

ITT: Complete misunderstanding on how randomness and statistics works.

Guys, just because you don’t get consistently better loot with MF doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work. It increases the chance of getting higher-tier loot, but that doesn’t mean that you will always get better loot. Farming for an hour isn’t a large-enough sample size to determine whether MF works or not. MF is only noticeable over long periods of time.

I’m sure in 20 years when no one gives a kitten MF will be proved to be worth it.

Honestly. Up the drop rates. Nobody has time for this.

We’ve done the guild missions every week since they were added, and our guild on event night only had at most 8 players on. (Boy did that change once we started unlocking stuff!)

1. Build a Tier 1 and Tier 3 bounty each week. Do the tier 1 for the completion, do the tier 3 to invite whomever to get their weekly bonuses. Pick the easiest boss from the list of 6 (Poobadoo, Trillia Midwell, Brekkabek have the smallest in-game paths) You’ll get more members, but also keep your regulars returning with an easy kill almost every week.

2. Go do some dungeons and donate your gold to influence.

3. Do rush and trek, half the time if you queue rush during primetime, there’s another guild doing it. complete it for them and you will get credit for your guild once you can activate your banner. Just make sure all your players have received their rewards first!

3a Stick someone (or an alt) at Fawcett’s jp and Portmatt’s Promontory. If you have 5+ players, there’s no reason you can’t do the highest level trek every week.

This also fixes an issue with the achievement for winning Crab Toss.

What exactly is supposed to be the winner’s prize?

Magic find and rng are hopelessly broken currently. You can stack pure magic find and (usually after a server reset) have a burst of decent drop rates then magically nothing until next reset.

The only way to play currently for people still affected by this is to run your daily chests and any other content with guaranteed rewards and then find something else to do, because you won’t get it through effort.

I go farming with guildies frequently and they put up with my incessant nagging long enough to divulge what drops they got, and I’m usually if not always the player with the least drops. Yes, I make sure we have similar magic find and mobs are tagged and etc.

…and what about everyone that doesn’t receive your wonderful mystical drop rates to make any money?

My luck isn’t that great so you don’t have to complain about it. You almost make a gold a run and that’s with no mf on.

How about save your gold and stop spending it?

I’m not here to fight with anyone. I’m just stating that if you keep running it you’ll have enough gold to almost buy it. Don’t buy now just put a bid on it.

I’d like proof please, because I’m certainly not earning a gold a run in any dungeon. 15 silver from the end, guaranteed 2 chests, one guaranteed blue from the champion…

everything else is mostly greys or nothing.

What is the point of the wooden chests?

in Players Helping Players

bravoart.5308

Conspiracy theory time! Put on your tinfoil hats.

Hey everyone, this is likely a very stupid question but I’ve been thinking on it for a while now. What exactly is the point of the wooden chests?

Now hold on. I was here from back when the drop rate/tinfoil hat fiasco was the big thing, and I had my hopes up as to the inclusion of the wooden chests in to the game’s coding.

These chests, which now specifically only hold rare (yellow) or above were supposedly add a way for players to pick up their valuable loot by sight, and not have it vanish on mobs.

Let me ask: Who out there is not picking up every last thing on every mob? Why? You killed it, you’re just going to walk away? There’s item promotion, there’s the BLTC, there’s honestly no reason for a player not to pick up every piece of glittering gold possible….

Unless DR only counts on loot you’ve picked up. All those blues, greys greens and mats you’ve collected? Those could possibly be hurting your chance of getting yellows at Jormag or Dusk off that skritt that looked at you funny.

The wooden boxes supposedly last longer than mob corpses, so this would inherently motivate a play-style in which one kills the same mobs in a path, and picks up any chests that remain on their next lap. If that’s not “farming”, I honestly don’t know what is.

I’m tempted to test this theory out, but I’m poor as butts in game (thanks RNG and item flippers!) and I’m wary of going without for long enough to see this in to fruition.

Ok, conspiracy theory over, make your tinfoil hats in to cute animals or something and leave them at Freebirds.

Got some guildies together and (before that announcement was made) decided that it would be a long term investment to start decking our mains out in an alternative set of magic find gear. Even bothered to get the armor box recipes to make it easier on some of the newer players who never touched crafting.

Cause you know, magic find might work right some day. Breaking 200+ MF and only getting a single t6 mat an hour tends to make me believe otherwise.

Now I’m just wondering whether our preparations are going to turn out to be a big waste of time and resources or whether we’ll be rewarded for our patience.

I can do 50 runs easily so it’s not a win win. You got the gloves for the event so you can be happy you got at least something for your hard work doing it. Let the jetpack be how it is and stop fighting about it. The event is almost over with anyways. So there is no use in doing it.

For those that dont speak twatkitten: I got the jetpack and dont want other people to get it so removing chance from the run instead making it based on commitment or skill will make me worthless because i cant be a special little snowflake.

RNG is so bad. I want everything earned so everyone can have the same thing cry cry cry. Comes from someone that doesn’t want to farm it like I did or save up gold.

There are some people that have farmed it, haven’t received it, and don’t have the rng luck anywhere else to have enough gold to spend. Playing the TP at this point is impossible if you haven’t exploited early (mystic forge precursors, wintersday accessories). Sure, you can make a modest amount of money over time but not 130 gold currently needed before the event ends and the price skyrockets.

Just face it. Until we stop putting rare items on the tp for the top 1% to buy for profit, prices aren’t going to drop because of the current flipping mentality.

Hoard everything, mystic toilet or shard your own rares, farm your own mats. Don’t give them any more money that they’re not going to introduce back in to the community.

I just finished a 2+ hour MF run.

It was probably what would be considered the worst run I have ever been on. I did not bail, I did not give up, I did not yell at the other players. In fact, I activated the fabled “man mode” and tried to be as absolutely helpful as possible, giving advice with a friendly smile – – while making sure everyone was ressed, buffed, projectiles deflected, dps boosted…

Many wipes later when the bosses were finally dead, after more than 40 runs of this dungeon since it was added – the chest decided to rub some extra salt in the wound and gave me the yellow insignia, yet another recipe for food, a glass of purple drink and a handful of change on the nightstand.

I don’t want to be an elitist prick, but this RNG is certainly explaining why the game is currently careening off of ‘LF4M ZERKER WARS, EXPERIENCED ONLY’ cliff. When a drop rate is so low, you only want to get through it as fast as possible to have more chances.

Also those who are complaining about the drop rate really need to stop QQing.
The idea behind it was to be a unique item that only a few people have. If everyone could get the jetpack, then everyone would be wearing it and no one would like it because it is not unique. I really like the idea behind limited extremely rare items in the game. I personally was able to buy mine for 60g the day of the patch. I knew the price would double, so I sold everything in my bank just to get one. I don’t think ANET should cater to everyone baby out there who wants everything handed to them.

Which is why the state of the game is so money-centric right now that you don’t see anyone wearing the jetpacks. It’s too much money for most players to turn down.

The jetpack isn’t extremely rare as proved by the amount of them on the trading post by day 3, it’s just that everyone is selling them instead of wearing them.

Simple GW2 math. Limited time + Rare drop = Auction fodder.

It doesn’t matter that there are lots of people running this dungeon back to back in hopes to get one for personal use. People who put in the effort deserve the rewards.

You’re just another forum case of “I have one, so exploiting the economy is ok. Stop crying you have-nots.”

Ran this dungeon so many times now it’s starting to wear thin. I organize the group, mark the priority kills, run a regen/dps build to try and raise the success rate as some people just don’t seem to even want to try on the last bosses. last time i ran the final boss i had to solo most of the first stage, managed to res a few peeps but they ate shockwaves, had to 3 man the final stage which took ages. With a good group it takes 30-40 mins, i was there for 2 hours with one group! my point is i’m putting alot of effort in to these runs but getting very little reward for that because of RNG.

RNG has had it’s time, It’s not needed now, there needs to be a better way to implement these sought after prizes other then pure luck or buy it from an over priced economy.

I will keep trying, but every run builds a little more resentment towards RNG and it’s place in the game..

Preaching to the choir, man. I’m at the edge of my seat every time I have to dps down the last 10% of Firestorm by myself so everyone can rez and move on. I’d like this dungeon a lot more if I knew I could achieve what I feel I technically deserve via effort at this point.

Between being:

1. Spamming this dungeon so hard because it’s available for a limited time only
2. Being kicked from the dungeon because pugs (think it’s too hard/get disconnected).
and
3. Consistently shafted by RNG on the final chest

I’m slowly coming to accept that no matter how hard I try, I won’t be able to obtain the things I want due to sheer luck.

“In Guild Wars 2, everybody should have access to every item. It’s not fair that somebody has something I don’t and they should be banned. I want a drop. Please.”

Just face it that you aren’t going to be able to get every goody they bring out..

So, it’s perfectly ok that some players statistically will never receive ANY of the goodies that are introduced to the game, no matter how hard they try, no matter how much time and skill they purpose for the game?

Random is a cruel mistress, and games really need to stop giving her power over rewards.

Sigil of luck at 25 stacks = 6×25 = 150%

There’s part of your problem.

0.6, not 6. it’s 15% at full stacks.

Also, thee’s a MF bug going around that if you get in to a downed state, your mf gear breaks and does not contribute the mf stat until you relog/requip it.

Other skills also don’t display range, should this trait? That’s generally something that comes with being skilled at the game; estimating range. The range isn’t too big indeed but under the right circumstances it’s amazing (in PvP team fights on a point for example). Essentially you’re asking for a buff which it really doesn’t need (I use it myself too so it’s not that I don’t know what I’m talking about ).

You should be using this with Zephyr’s Boon and Elemental Shielding to give it extra stats, it’s stupidly powerful that way.

I don’t know about the prioritization stuff. If it indeed targets NPCs over players that would need a change, but it certainly doesn’t need a buff.

Yes, other skills don’t display range, except for similar skills as I mentioned that rely on other players being near you to receive the benefits. Right now as-is, shared auras require you to be almost touching the other player, and no matter of ‘skill’ is going to make 2 players move near each other if they don’t have to.

Just because I didn’t mention I was using zephyr’s and shielding, doesn’t mean I’m not. that’s entirely the whole purpose. I would like to reliably give my party these 3 buffs consistently. An AoE indicator while not necessary would help other players, while just making the AoE effect bigger would just be all around better.

If its share effect was as big as banners or venom share, this wouldn’t be a problem. Right now, you need to be hugging other people to share auras.

RNG broken or is it just me

I’ve gotten two exotics, ever – on two consecutive days. Monday, exotic drop, Tuesday, exotic from the forge. Then nothing. RNG is… wait for it…

Random.

Actually, RNG is not random. Computers have no way of producing a truly random number, so they need to base their random seed from something. It might be the time or date, or some other number.

I have a theory that sometimes the random seed gets stuck and you “random” the same number repeatedly. I saw this a lot when making maps in Warcraft III. However I have no proof that it is happening or can happen in GW2, it just seems like something that is happening, based on previous experience with “random” number generators in games.

I’d bet there is still something wrong with RNG, yes. I notice after a server reset my loot is pretty good for the day, then it slowly gets worse and worse. I’ll be in party with similar MF and watch guildies get 10x the amount of items I get, I get 1 t6 scale – they get 12. I have 12 greys to sell – they have 40+.

It’s not RNG if its the same results every time.

Honestly I like the dungeon enough to keep at it, but I’m probably going to get a bit nervous if I don’t have the items I’m wanting by the last few days of the content.

Though, getting a free set of orange Sentinel’s gear to make for alts isn’t too shabby…

I always like to think that Shadow Behemoth is busy checking out his tumblr and always loses track of time for when he’s supposed to spawn.

Since Shatterer has Grumblecakes as a rare gag drop, I think SB should have Toast to show that he’s always late for anime school.

Elementalist Grandmaster: Powerful Aura.

First off, I have to say that this is one of my personal favorite abilities for the elementalist. I’ve been running a support auramancer for just over a month now after scrounging up the gear, and in my honest opinion, it’s pretty fun.

My problems with it that this trait doesn’t seem to stack up very well with other similar party buff abilities such as Venomous Aura, Inspiring Banners and so forth.

There is no current AoE ring to show how close party members should be to receive these buffs, and honestly I don’t know how one could implement this, because an Elementalist with this trait would have to have an AoE indicator around them permanently. Another problem arises that the AoE on this specific trait is incredibly small, and still will prioritize NPC’s and non-party/squad/guild. If I remember right, there was a patch that specifically addressed player buffs prioritizing players if possible, but it doesn’t seem to work with Powerful Auras. Also, it seems the AoE target cap is limited at 4, including yourself (either that, or the 5th member doesn’t gain any visual notification?).

I love this ability, but considering that banners and venoms give stats, secondary effects or heals and conditions respectively, a simple boon stacking elementalist could definitely use some love.

Awesome Auramancer Checklist:
Aura share AoE size too small
Party/Non-NPC prioritize buffs
Player cap confirmation in tooltip.

The ‘lamps’ you attack after clearing the area of electric turrets was unattackable but still targetable. No area attack nor single target or homing ability would affect it.

So, 12 minutes in, after a majority of our group finishing the remaining locations, we get the bright idea of guesting to do the puzzle and then return to our home server to click the guild trek insignia, and by the time we found a server that had it properly working, it was too late to complete the puzzle.

Likely going to have to park a character there before every trek until this is fixed.
