Yeah DValerius, no idea why it allows uneven fights (3v4, 4v5.) Can’t it just hold the extra person until someone else joins?

Then again, this is the same system that would rather solo queue games be uneven than fill the spot with someone in queue. Seriously, what’s the point of having a queue if a game that has someone leave right at the start can’t get a replacement? Why should I suffer because some kitten wants to eat a Dishonorable stack so he doesn’t have to play Skyhammer or Spirit Watch? Wouldn’t it be easy to just… fill the spot with someone? Since “Play Now” already does it?

Was there a time when this wasn’t the mantra? It feels like it’s not only the mantra, but devs are required to get it tattooed on their stomachs.

What you want to do is have one person dedicated to, at the start of the match, running to their treb and whacking it dead. It should be someone who can take a few hits, because there will probably be someone on the treb, but they want to concentrate on demolishing it and then running away. While this is going on, your treb will probably be attacked and destroyed, but it’s okay. You don’t need the treb to win.

Like Rezz said, if they pick up their repair kit (you will get a message on screen and audio when they do) then go and kill their runner. The repair kit will be the repair kit spawn on the opposite side of mid from your treb. See this image as a reference. Keep that in mind when you see they picked up their kit, as you can anticipate where the runner will be coming from.

I’ve always found Kyhlo to be easier than Foefire, since protecting the Lord is just an annoying mechanic that makes it tough to say whether you should send one person over or four. Plus Home is the same distance from the enemy that it is from you.

What’s toxic is joining a ranked game and not knowing you’re supposed to run the kitten orb in Spirit Watch (seriously, had someone earlier who took the orb and then… just stood there killing people instead of running it. didn’t even pay attention to chat, either), or that more than one person doesn’t speed up capture, or that capturing points is how you win so you shouldn’t be in a team fight in the middle of nowhere.

Apparently, directing someone to a where you can find any information about the game is striking a nerve. If you think I am angry about that or something you might be projecting.

You have yet to actually tell me where I can find what this mysterious developer said about changes to PVP. So I suppose I can just assume you were lying? That’s pretty embarrassing for you. I mean, it’s not like it’s hard to look through the dev tracker and find that one post you were talking about, if it actually existed.

And yes OP, solo queue is a joke. You end up in a winning streak, then a losing streak, then a winning streak, repeat ad nauseum.

I can say I’ve saved a handful of people from a well-timed knockback/stun while they were stomping, and I can say I’ve been res’d a handful of times as my team runs in when I’m downed, and I can say I’ve been rallied (though not as much as the others), but I can also say all those things have happened equally as much to the teams I’ve fought.

It seems like this is just Yet Another Mechanic, not really good or bad. Just different. It does need some work, though. I wouldn’t say to remove it, because they obviously won’t. There are just too many traits and skills that rely on it. The suggestions you’ve made would be good. I mean, 90% of the time, the annoying ele/thief/guardian/warrior skills that stop the stomp just waste time for both parties, to the point where people will advocate not using them just so you can respawn. This is counter-intuitive. Also, the whole rallying thing does need some work. Five people shouldn’t get up just because one enemy they were able to tag died. How does that even make sense? The other team lost a person, so let’s make them outnumbered even more?

But this is the same team that put Skyhammer in solo queue and refuses to do respond to the countless threads about it, so it’s doubtful we’ll see changes like these.

All those things are nice, but lets wait and see what Anet is cooking because supposedly they are cooking a new system that will make a lot of the things you listed a thing of the past.

Where did you hear this?

Because I really can’t trust their “wait and see what we’re working on!” lines. 8 months down the road, nothing to show for it most of the time.

Is sPVP supposed to be casual, or is it supposed to be competitive? Because you can’t force newbies into ranked matches if it’s casual, and you can’t balance classes so slowly if it’s competitive. Seems like another focus issue. The devs really need to decide what exactly they’re doing with it and buckle down, because this isn’t the only thing with an obvious lack of focus by the team.

They’re dying to the HotM mobs faster because those mobs were buffed like crazy.

Not sure about this whole “pets die too easily in 1v1” stuff. The ones I’ve faced seem really sturdy, and every time I tried to focus them, the ranger bursts me down. Perhaps it’s a player issue, like you aren’t spec’ing properly?

Yeah the class distribution is ridiculous. Had four thieves on one team the other day. Three mesmers another. One time, even had a guardian and four warriors.

It seems like the devs take their “any class can play anything!” ideology a little too seriously. Even the FFXIV devs knew to balance ranged and melee classes when joining a dungeon queue.

I think that this new stance of silence is from the backlash they’ve gotten from responding.

Used to they’d respond more often, and it’d just elicit more complaints.

Of course it would elicit complaints. Most of the time, they’re commenting on polarizing topics. That’s an expected response. It’s just that there are people on the other side, who aren’t complaining. Look at this megaserver business. If you only read the forums, you’d think it was a massive failure and ArenaNet is the devil for not immediately rolling back the changes. But log in and ask people, and most would say they like it.

If they stopped responding because they thought the responses were too uncivil or rude, that’d be a huge failure on their part. If I break or change something I’m working on for a customer, and they contact me to ask what the hell is going on, I’m not going to tell them to kitten off because they seemed agitated. (Rarely have I seen a response on here completely out of control. Maybe the mods do a good job culling it, but the posts asking for responses or changes are, for the most part, civil. They’re just laced with frustration.)

It was probably a combination of things that caused them to stop communicating — cutting costs, not being able to retain employees, cutting costs, shifts in focus, bad management, cutting costs, cutting costs…

It’s alright. By 2025, we should see a screenshot of someone talking to an ArenaNet employee in-game who casually mentioned how maybe they’re looking at reducing condition spam. We just have to wait. They’ve always come through, right?

There is plenty of info from A.Net. As they said, they want players to learn about some of the things they added in the game, like how heart rewards are given – which has changed with the last patch and that is nice.

About Square Enix, if they would have listened to players, they wouldn’t have had to relaunch FF14 as the original game was junk.

Not everyone is going to be pleased with changes. Mostly, what we have is a vocal minority and a silent majority. If people like things, they usually don’t say anything.

I’m not talking about cute little additions they did that aren’t in the patch notes. I’m talking about a lack of presence on the forums.

Square Enix listened and revamped their whole community engagement, and they’re doing awesome now. I don’t fault them for how they acted in 1.0 because they’ve rectified that mistake. How they acted during 1.0 has nothing to do with how they’re acting now.

There absolutely isn’t enough communication with the community. Look at Square Enix/Naoki Yoshida. They’re communicating and interacting with their community just as much — if not more — and they’re halfway across the world and speak a different language. They make sure there are community liaisons in lots of threads and that bug reports get at least some sort of response, and the project lead himself answers questions and concerns from the community every couple of months in a video (that showcases stuff they haven’t already explained in blog posts cough readyup cough) If there’s a large concern from the community about something, they get a response, even if it’s just, “Hey sorry but this is working as intended. Here are some things to try.”

But see, ArenaNet doesn’t care about the people who hang around the forums. They make up maybe 5% of the playerbase. The other 95% play the game and spend gems no matter how the devs communicate. So I guess either get used to the idea of ArenaNet not giving a kitten about you, or go play a game that actually listens to and talks with their community.

Absolutely no reward last round.

After two tiers, custom arenas (which “Play Now” and Courtyard are a part of) stop rewarding track progression, so you have to play soloq/teamq to get any progression.

Oh my god I hate that. Same thing happened on Skyhammer with me as well, although we ended up winning. There was a necro guarding me on cannon, and the rest of my team was on B while A and C were sitting unguarded and capped by the enemy team. I had to beg multiple times for someone to go and cap at least one of them, and in the end, it was the necro who was guarding me who did it! Like, what the hell? I’ve got this awesome view of the battlefield and am telling you all that A and C are open to cap, just one of you sneak off and grab one of them while me on cannon and the others hold B, but nope! Let’s just stalemate on B.

I really do blame ArenaNet for making track progression capped after two tiers in hotjoins. It takes away the carrot — the only reason most of them are there (including me at first.) They could be getting practice in matches that don’t matter too much and then jumping into soloq when they feel confident enough, but instead, they hit the cap and get told in map chat that soloq is the place you go, so they’re just using it as a place to farm track progression instead of actually trying.

I’ve had the worst luck as well. There was a fight earlier where two of my teammates saw me run from mid (because all three of us were there capping, so I started running to home) and so they ran… but didn’t finish capping mid. Another fight, a thief tried to res me without putting stealth up as a warrior was about to stomp me, then proceeded to lose to him 1v1 after I already weakened him. And another, where 4 of the enemy team were on our Lord, but somehow they had two out of three points capped, while one of my teammates was trying to solo their Lord and dying (of course ending with them closing the 150 point gap we got and then winning.) That’s just one of the countless times I’ve been the only one running to points or not running into a group of enemies by myself and instantly dying.

It’s like I’m stuck in some kind of Groundhog Day-esque universe where I constantly get the two awful mesmers intent on dying in 1v1s, the thief who for some reason is hanging around spawn instead of actually contributing, and the ranger who just can’t god kitten stay alive in group fights. And they all refuse to kittening fight in the point.

Have I wronged you in some way, soloq matchmaking god? Your teamq brother seems to like me. Why do you insist on grouping me with complete idiots?

Surprised this hasn’t come up yet, but:

ArenaNet doesn’t care about WvW. Nothing you suggest will ever be incorporated or changed. How long has the playerbase been waiting for something as simple as colored commander tags? Or any sort of commander UI? WvW is just not something they give two kittens about, and unless they gut their current managerial staff, it won’t ever be.

Everything about your post is great. As a new player to PvP, fixing those things would make it awesome. I hate knowing that because of some dumb luck with group composition, my win/loss is so messed up for solo. Give me a solo queue that isn’t ranked and gives progress towards tracks, and I’d be happy. And I left out the thing about your grandparent because I honestly stopped reading after the first four things. I’ve lost power for a week before, and I was kitten kittened about it too, but I knew the power company was pulling extra days and overtime trying to fix the issue. I vented to my family though, “How the hell can they lose power now? We didn’t even get any weather!” But that isn’t what we’re talking about. No one cares that losing power or cell phone service or a loved one is worse. We know that. Coming into this discussion just to wave around that fact is just you trying to feel superior. It adds nothing.

Please, just cut it out. This thread serves two functions: To let the developers know they’re doing a poor job, and to let us vent about the effects their poor job has on us. You realize each of those things are reimbursable, right? Call your cell phone or internet or power provider. You’ll have a credit applied to your bill.

Guess what we’re getting back from this?

Have you ever worked on a project in a team and thought the new guy could handle it so you let him do it only to later find out something doesn’t work right? Going through thousands of lines of code to realize something was put. in the wrong spot takes a lot of effort, especially when you didn’t do it.

They probably could have manually reset it each day as a workaround, but that would have potentially caused other problems.

That isn’t an argument against their incompetence. I would have given them the benefit of the doubt had they actually done something about this last week. But no; they released a major patch with the intention of fixing every single bug in three days, then they put off a game-breaking bug until the following week, then they release a patch 15 freakin’ minutes after it would have actually made a difference, as if to spite the people affected.

It is genuinely impossible for a condition build to break through Diamond Skin right now.

Then maybe you shouldn’t be a 100% condition build? Maybe you should tweak your build to compensate for the handful of times you come across a Diamond Skin elementalist? Or perhaps you should just deal with the fact that your broken build has a single trait on a single class to counter it, because everyone else actually has to learn how to play and not rely on spamming conditions to win a fight?

Dailies bugged again. I put my character in Gendarran Fields, exited client at around 4:45pm server, and logged in at 5:05pm server.

Look on the bright side: ArenaNet must be a pretty stress-free place to work, if they can tell users affected by a game-breaking bug to kitten off for a week so no one has to work after 5pm on Friday (due to the company’s own incompetence at patch scheduling and testing, of course.)

Completely agree. I dont see how the devs had the nerve to give eles a method to counter condition spam so well. I think changing the trait to 25% reduced condi duration while above 95% hp would even the playing field again, and maybe drop eles base hp to 9k at the same time.

It’s not impenetrable. Elementalists have incredibly weak passive defenses, so it should be easy to do 1.5k damage to them.

I wouldn’t blame you for quitting. Not solely because of this, but because you can kitten well bet this is how you’ll be treated every time a bug like this affects you. Why would you want to invest your time and money in a game like that? Just so four months down the line, when they finally release another patch to address the issues from six months ago, it breaks something else and you’re s-o-l for a week because apparently it takes three days for a severe bug to go from the forums to the developers — who couldn’t be asked to look at a kitten calendar to see if their major patch was coinciding with any significant holidays? Did they all assume 3 days (Tuesday afternoon to Friday afternoon) was enough to weed out and fix the bugs from this patch? Do they really have no idea how long they actually take to address things?

The only issue I had was on the first day of the patch, but tonight when the rollover was supposed to happen, all my daily timers reset and I’m unable to make any track progress via custom arenas, craft the ascended shoulders I was looking forward to, and really do anything that relies on the daily timer being at 0:00.

Such a severe bug continuing for so long like this is unacceptable. I know the devs have shown contempt for proper bug testing and patching in the past, but this is ridiculous. Taking three days to acknowledge the bug and at least a week to fix it? And then you wonder why the forums are so toxic and bitter?

I really can’t believe someone thought it was a good idea to schedule a major patch the week of Easter. Actually, I take that back, considering this is the same company who rate-limits trading post sales with no explanation, who locks custom arenas from progressing tracks to prevent botting despite it kittening off more PvPers than botters, and who patch in a way for people to block other languages from chat and enable it by default. So I guess “terribly planned and executed” is par for the course, huh?

I can understand story modes done previous to the patch not unlocking. Not a huge thing to run a story mode (aside from Arah) and it helps newbies who need their first unlock.

But toss my hat in the ring as someone who also hates the daily custom arena lockout. This is a terrible attempt at stopping bots, as there’s nothing stopping them from joining solo (and making as much on a fail as they do on a win in custom arena.) Really, this doesn’t stop anything, and I’m surprised this idea actually got implemented, because it’s just so obviously useless.

Here are some things wrong with it:

1. There is nothing in the UI that tells the user why their track progress isn’t updating. This isn’t a reason to get rid of the lockout; this is just another way it was done poorly. How is anyone supposed to know the reason their track isn’t progressing is because you all (as in the devs, not you specifically CC) decided that two tiers is enough for a day? And how are they supposed to know that solo/team queues are the solution?

2. This does absolutely, positively nothing to stop botters. Really, not sure how this was the reasoning. No one looked at this and said, “Uh, so what happens when the botters decide to go into solo queue where they earn more for losing and have no lockout?”

3. This pushes unprepared players into ranked games, upsetting experienced PvP players. I think this is the biggest one. Once players who are only after track progress figure out that solo and team arenas are the way to bypass the lockout, they immediately join because a) they have no idea what the difference is between “Play Now” and “Join Solo,” and b) they are only in it to get the track progress and maybe have some fun, not to further their rank.

Please, if there’s anything you reconsider out of this patch, let it be this.

Agree with everyone here. As a new player getting into PvP, the solo queue is daunting. I’m not experienced enough to jump into it, but if I’ve maxed my custom arena allotment, I either have to do solo queue or not PvP at all because “the carrot” has been taken from me and I’ve lost a very great sense of progression.

Plus, no where do you even say this is the reason. There’s no “custom arena allotment” bar that fills as you approach two tiers. There’s no message telling you that you’ve hit the cap. Very poorly done on ArenaNet’s part.

I think everyone here understands there is no work being progressed. Even if there was, ArenaNet’s utter refusal to communicate and total lack of consistency and focus means it doesn’t matter.

I’m not sure how you can have such a positive outlook. We’re going to go into Living World season 2 having gotten no WvW content or quality-of-life updates, so the one chance they had to actually do something will be gone, and maybe in a few years we’ll get different colored commander tags or something equally simple that could have been knocked out in a week.

They really need to work on their playerbase communication. We’ve got bugs sitting for years with absolutely no dev interaction, a ton of threads posted about the same issue because either a dev has never said anything or they said something 8 months ago and it’s sitting in the back of the forum, and a terrible lack of consistency for the things they actually leave a message for.

“Oh no! There are people who exist in the world who do not speak the same language as me!” Get over it. You don’t have to know everything that everyone is saying in map chat. You aren’t that important.

Does FFXI or FFXIV have world events that take perfect coordination and organization from all people on the whole map and can only be done once per day due to the new boss synch system?
Where 4+ fractions doing the event but not being able to understand each other means certain failure?

Yes. Two of them. In fact, they only spawn once a day — not three times, like GW2’s do.

Does FFXI or FFXIV have a WvW game mode and then forces you to play PvE together with the “enemies” you face there?

It doesn’t have a WvW. It does have cross-server/cross-language dungeon finder and PvP, though.

Where are you supposed to recruit players for a WvW guild or call for help defending a WvW map?

In the same map. The majority of people will be from your server. There might be a couple who are not, but that doesn’t matter. There’s nothing insecure about using map chat in a map that might contain a server you’re sparring against. Do you know why? Because if you’re to the point where you need to spam map chat in order to get people into the fight, the enemy already knows what you’re doing. You’ve already got a big orange crossed swords icon on the map. They don’t need someone in Vigil Keep telling them that <enemy server> is amassing troops.

ascended craft material daily reset time bug

Same here. Showing 21hrs left despite never having crafted it. I crafted one yesterday between the patch and the daily reset, so I think that might have something to do with it, because thick elonian cord doesn’t show a timer and I did not craft that yesterday.

I also can’t get my daily charged quartz crystal.
