I haven’t played Gw2 in about 2+ months, slightly before ascended weapons were released.

Is this stuff more of a grind?

Stop the Champtrains!

Yeah, dont worry about champ trains. Trigger an event when youre darn good and ready. If it messes up the champ train, so be it. If mapchat turns abusive, begin the reports. If I find people being verbally abusive to others who began an event ‘early’…I’ll get in on the fun and start farming my own champs and really mess with their routine.

Well, until there is another method of obtaining ascended gear reliably(not just an RNG drop), I am staying away from Guild Wars 2. I don’t want to craft for it. I dont want to grind materials for it.

I’ll be pretty amused when people start posting threads on LFG post that are “LF <whatever> FULL ASCENDED!” and they require the armour and weapon pings in chat. Remember how it was when CoF P1 was popular. Groups wanted that ping else you’d get kicked pretty fast.

“It doesn’t affect me, I don’t do it/I only play with friends/I don’t join elitist”.

Cool story. Needs a bit more feeling to it though.

Funny. It seems the only people that will be left in the game will be the elitists/vertical progression crowd, people with many friends that are ‘like minded’ or people that simply don’t know any better, such as new people to MMOs.

If you have zerker exotics and I have ascended non-zerker, you out damage me.

That right there should illustrate how small this gap we’re talking about is.

If I have ascended zerker and you have exotic zerker, I will outdamage you.
So simple is it to illustrate that there is a gap.

What is your point in comparing apple and oranges?

Arguing at this point is futile, as the grinders and vertical progression people won. It’s their game now.

Agreed. I wanted this to be the ONE mmo that I played where I play for cosmetics and just to have fun. ONE game is all I asked for, just one. When I first heard of GW2 I was elated. Now, its currently shelved along with WoW, Rift, etc. Just another VP game. Nothing unique about it.

With that said, I don’t mind verticle progression in MMOs. I just wanted one game where I didnt have to worry about it. Just one game. Since Arenanet could not pull this off and succumbed to VP and that crowd, I’ll look to better VP games on the horizon, such as Wildstar. They’ll do it much better and how it SHOULD be done. By completing enormous feats for great gear, instead of amassing enormous amounts of wealth and spending dozens or hundreds of hours grinding.

Compare a full ascended gear set(which is where the game is headed) vs a full exotic gear set of the same stat grouping, and you’ll see a sizeable difference and it’ll make an enormous difference in WvW. Im willing to bet that with the toxic community that GW2 has the reputation for, that even dungeon runs will be governed by “post full ascended set”..or if the group wipes with 2% left on the boss, someone will say “Who doesnt have ascended here?” Sure, skill matters. But stats mean a bit more.

With that said I can always run a dungeon group with ‘like minded’ people. Sure, I’ll spend a glorious amount of time sifting and finding that perfect marvelous group that is like minded, so I can run a dungeon with them in peace.

There is a difference, and when the full ascended sets are released, it will be a large difference. You think people are crying now, just wait. This is the biggest fatal flaw arenanet has made, but I am just an ordinary player without stats in front of me. Its all in my head right?

“hey if you dont want to play the game anymore then that’s fine” Really? that’s the attitude you guys have on here? as DEVS? I mean we are your meal ticket…my 30 bucks in gems ends up in your guys pockets and the best you can say is " good luck" glad you tried the game out.

Well then I’ll just go play FFXIV ARR and get ready for Elder Scrolls Online and forget all about GW2 I mean you guys dont need my money huh…

That’s not really a good attitude to have on players leaving Devs its even worse when other people read that it sends a negative vibe to us……

When I read this in Chis’s post, I felt the same way. “If you’re not on board with the place we are taking this game, then maybe this isnt the game for you”. I was kind of taken back by that. Like the money I spent on the game was not appreciated. Or like the future dollars I could spend on the game aren’t appreciated or valued.

I know you cannot make a game that pleases everyone. But time and time again, people come to forums to post that this game has done a 180 on them. From what they perceived pre-launch and in beta, to what is now. The game is very different. Many many people feel this way. And your attitude is “well, this isn’t the game for you”?

I guess not. I haven’t played in well over a month and I honestly cannot see myself doing so in the near future unless drastic change development direction(i.e. shifting from living story and toward more traditional content updates).

My request:
Less living story and slower cadence. Roll this into less achievement gathering and more substantiated content. More lore, more threat to the world and less carnival-like patches.

That is my request. However, since it is not in line with the company’s direction I doubt my post here will receive any attention.

I’ve said this before in other threads…
I think that the reason why this community has become the most demanding and nit-picking community out of any MMO I’ve ever played is because Arenanet has made pretty bold claims, promises, and then claimed that we mis-understood what they meant to say. I’ve played many MMOs and while each commmunity is different and each community is pretty demanding, GW2 community is by far the worst in this regard.

You never played EQ a year or two in, or WoW in the TBC era, did you?

I actually did play WoW in the TBC era(did not play EQ). I was on the forums frequently. I remember people saying content was too difficult(alar was the stopping point for many guilds). I don’t remember people whining about raiding the way you claim, but I guess I could have glazed over those threads because I was having too much fun in a game that was innately difficult(with raiding) and the content was meaningful instead of fluffy mini games, themed updates, and zerg fests.

Wildstar is getting back to the root of this. While I believe that my hardcore days are behind me, many will argue that the Vanilla and TBC days of WoW were its best years because the content was difficult but it was meaningful. It was a gear grind, but you have to be able to complete content to get that gear, not just have insane amounts of wealth and time. The content was also meaningful…there was a true threat to the world. In GW2, we have..scarlet and invasions where mobs stand there picking their noses, not attacking any cities or towns. Thats a truely living world right there.

This thread shows you what the power of developer responses can do!

The first couple pages were not that good, the hate was beginning to flow in. Now that you are responding? The feedback is tremendous and the last 10 pages have been nothing but love of finally being heard and some great, great feedback!

Get that going across all sections of the forum and this forum will begin to purify itself just like the land of Orr!

I applaud you Chris Whiteside and I hope that what you say about developers interacting with players more on the forums stays true!

I dont want to be a fountain of negativity, but Chris Whiteside said the same things a year ago when ascended gear rolled out and he held the AMA. He said he wanted to have Arenanet communicate with us more. Here they are, almost a year later, saying..“we want to be more active in communication”.

I definately agree and applaud that Chris Whiteside has the courage to stand in front of this forum and speak to us. He has my respect.

But there are issues that have been lingering since launch, things that we have cried for and clamored for all over these forums and fan sites, things that are un addressed. But they continue to focus their development on controversial things like living story and ascended gear.

BTW, I too am guilty of ripping apart quotes. Just saying, that we are half of the reason why they are frequenting these forums less and less. The other half of the reason is that they know they cannot back up their claims so boldy as they pretended to have done done pre-release.

I still dont understand how you would frame a poll to get useful information out of players. A. To make it worthwhile for the player doing it and B. To get useful info for the devs.

Example: Twilight Assault just released.
Do you like it? Y/N
Rate the difficulty 1-5
Did you enjoy the storyline and characters? ‘What story?’ ‘Didnt care’ ‘yes excellent!’

I dont see how a poll can ask ‘why’. Unless you overload it with every possible option there can be. Maybe im lacking imagination here can somebody help me out?

It is better than assuming what we like and dislike.
The poll can have if/then/else statements.

Did you enjoy XYZ content? Y/N
If Yes, then “What would you like to see in the future?”
else “Was the content difficult enough?” Yes/No
else “Was the content engaging enough?” Yes/No
etc etc.
<Comment field>

Im not going to go into detail but the survey can get really ‘boss’ with the branches of else statements.

So by the way we have two main topics of conversation now:

1: Polls: Every seems to like them but where do they go?
2: Game Feedback Collaboration: How do we want to do this?

Chris

In answer to above:
Polls could be sent via mail to each account concerning a myriad of items from development direction, to suggestions, to what we liked in the past, what we dont like in the current, and what we want in the future. So much could be accomplished.

It would also be really good to see a developer post these statistics online. Does the community support living story or not? Ascended items or not? The recent zerg updates or not? All of the themed updates or not? The cadence of updates or not?

I for one would be very interested in this. I personally would love less frequent, but larger and more substantial updates.

This could not go unnoticed by me

A few things I’ll comment on and then leave this thread for good(probably).

-Where are the semi-frequent AMA’s you said you wanted to do almost a year ago Mr. Whiteside?(im not trying to be condescending, apologies) You said the same thing then as you say now, that you want to communicate better in the future. Here we are, almost a year later and you are still saying the same thing.

-Living Story and Ascended gear are the two most controversial items. Unless I am proven otherwise, I cannot believe that an overwhelming majority of the playerbase supports Living Story or Ascended gear. From the official forums, to fan sites, to in game chatter…theres enough disbelief in these two systems for me to say that it they are both controversial items…highly controversial. They are not slam dunks like we might be led to believe.

-The one thing that stood out to me was when Mr. Whiteside began asking “is this the place you want to be”? One can interpret that as "We are listening, but we have a direction and if you’re not on board, tough. " or “This game is not for everyone”, yet Arenanet tried to cater to everyone by introducing ascended gear and progression into the game. When I spent my hard earned money on this game, I truely thought that this was a game that anyone could pick up at any time and play. It has drifted from that core concept. And now the Studio Director is asking us “is this game for you”? Well, now that you mention it, I guess it isn’t. It was fun while it lasted, and many can argue that the first 3 months of the game were the best.

I’m pretty sure a lot of people asked for a ascended gear and we all knew it was coming, but I highly doubt anyone expected it to be that much of a grind.

Up until November, no one asked for ascended gear. A small minority wow-like minded people clamored for some progression. No one asked for ascended gear, no one asked for time gated gear.

You will absolutely see a way to create a precursor available in the future. As detailed in our plans for the second half of the year here:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/

As mentioned at the end of the blog, as always things are subject to change as test and prepare various systems. Most of the stuff covered in the blog you’ve already seen implemented, or steps towards being implemented, however the precursor building (and corresponding additional legendary items) is the one highest at risk to not make it this year.

It is still something we absolutely plan to do!

Why it didn’t surprise me?

“Highest at risk to not make it this year”

When are game developers understand that this kind of behaviour is what make the game lose followers?
You’re playing with peoples patience. Too many times playerbase has stated that we don’t want better gear (ascended) but to new and great skins even if they’re hard as hell to get. Just focus on new content such as new fractals, dungeons, maps (also wvw ones), new armor and weapon looks (and plz, make them look epic) and ofc new and interesting lore.

Yup. Broken record dude. Id say most people would want traditional content like new zones, quests(dynamic events), skills, classes, races, world bosses, dungeons, quasi-traditional guild content(no not raids), skins, personal store, solid lore etc.

Instead we get disjointed living story, zerg content, ascended gear(which is highly controversial), and the occassional world boss/dungeon revamp.

I want a pre cursor scavanger hunt to be done correctly and I hate to nitpick and harp on every word, but with arenanet…I have to since they make the boldest claims of any MMO dev out there.

The ‘looking ahead’ article CJ refers to is what they plan to impliment by year end. Now, it is the highest risk of possibly not being implemented.. Sorry, if you say you’ll do something, do it. Don’t say youll add something that the players have been craving for since launch (hence giving a lot of them reason to continue playing) and then say “well, we’ll see if we can add it in…” . BS.

And yes, what about the new skills purchasable by traits and the other things? Heading into mid october…getting curious when these things will be available and if I should look at playing GW2 again.

Currently, Im not.

Indigo’s comment is disturbingly accurate, I’m afraid.

I agree.

The rest of the game is being ignored. Polishing dungeons. Polishing WvW. Adding more skills, more zones, more mobs, more deep lore(not 2 week living story crumbs). Adding more personal story. Adding more interesting events and reasons to head back to zones like Orr an Frostgorge, while also having reason to play intrinsically in the lower level zones. All of this is ignored in favor of Flavor of the week/month LS patches, small “content” updates, and weak story.

Using your list…

In gw2 we got:
2 worlds, 6 zones in SAB — Uhm..no? Please dont be so naieve and tell me that you consider the ‘worlds’( a super mario term ) to be actual zones in Tyria. SAB is a mini game. Cross this off your list of zones.
31 new guild missions — Gated behind influence much like a guild in WoW can be gated behind gear in order to raid…yes?
custom PvP Arenas
Spectator mode
WvW upgrades — I’ll agree here. I like the WvW upgrades but not a huge WvW player. Have to ask someone that is.
4x dungeons -How? How were there 4x the amount of dungeons added since Living Story started. Lets see..hmm, 0. Unless you are considering fractals. But then that too becomes gated behind gear. Next.
new dynamic events -- True.
6x new mini game — Yes mini games! Because thats why we have stats on our gear. For minigames!
1x new meta event -..invasions? Oh the mobs that just stand still until 100 players come along and wipe them out? Sure, if you want to consider that a meta. I liken these invasions to the old world bosses. Pushovers.
2x new jumping puzzle – I like.
2x new zone – Two new zones…where? Southsun and where else? The flying zep ship? Isnt it gone? Either way, southsun is abandonded because arenanet abandoned it twice..
1x new resource -- actually many new resources, and a few time-gated resources.
12x solo mini boss fights – Queens Jub..sure. Are these perma additions?
1x new world event (the clockwork invasion) — see the above about my points on invasions. Very quality..very quality. World changing infact.
1x update world boss event – After a year, they get around to 1 world boss update. Guess they have been too busy with LS.

Yeah, you and I will disagree with eachother on this one. Im no wow fanboy, I havent played the game seriously for about 2.5 years. But a WoW content patch craps all over a few living story patches, in my eyes.

So…what this game boils down to is that it is a game for everyone. It caters to everyone. Jack of all trades, master of none. If you like it, do it. If you dont, dont. The quality will not be up to par with the rest of the industry, but there will be something for everyone.

It would be impossible to create cutscenes with as much detail as the short stories, unfortunately, with the budget constraints most MMOs face.

Or more bluntly, do you want even more resources taken away from the actual game in favor of an exposition-heavy cutscene?

Resources were taken away from the actual game in favor of Living story. They should have all they need. According to Mike Z, they took the team that developed the game pre-launch and put it into Living Story.

I have different conversations with friends.

What’s new in the game. The living story. This week we’re fighting T’quatl. It’s a pretty epic dragon battle. Next week, there’s a new dungeon path coming into the game.

It’s not about what’s gone, it’s about what’s coming. You’re always two weeks away from something new…and you never know what it’s going to be.

To me that’s a selling point.

Fair enough point, that for you it sells the game. There are quite a few people who don’t see it this way. I don’t know the numbers nor do you, but it is fair to say that there are going to be people who dislike temporary content. I happen to be one of those players and obviously I am not alone in feeling that way as some of these recounting’s can attest to.

I guarantee you that if players weren’t logging in in increasingly larger numbers, Anet would not have added three teams to the living story team.

They didn’t look at the numbers, say this isn’t working and ramp it up.

Actually, you’re probably wrong. They added the teams after Flame and Frost (you know the “expansion’s worth of content” that was month 1. go find dead bodies. Month 2. Give the momentos back to the families Month3. Don’t know, didn’t do it. Month 4. Awesome dungeon you will never see again, so come burn out.

Living story was not working until they ramped it up and to be truthful it still is not working correctly. No one wants temporary content, nothing of value is added to the game.

And to top it off, no one ASKED for content every 2 weeks and we didnt ask for Living Story. People HAVE asked for Condition builds to become viable. People have asked for more dungeons and current dungeon revamps. People have asked for more things to do in WvW.

I wonder how many festivel and themed patches there have been vs permanent stuff added to the game? By permanent, I mean I can log in any day at any time of the year and see it. Meaning…this excludes SAB. I wonder how many mini games(albeit some temporary) have been added to the game vs dungeon paths. Or Mini games vs new zones. Or mini games vs dungeon revamps. @Galen Grey(I dont want to quote):

Whether or not it is a holy grail of MMOs remains to be seen. You sound like an arenanet employee posting on his personal account because that is exactly what they say.

Anyways, sure lots of content is good. GOOD content is good. Since living story has been introduced you can’t say that the story line and the combat-esq content is better than a well thought out, tested, PTR tested expansion/3-6 month content patch. How was flame and frost or skypirates better than a 3-6 month content patch where you get an entire new zone, new mobs, new dallies for new rewards, new raid, maybe a new dungeons, class adjustments..all in one patch. Sure, not everyone wants raids but the point is the amount and quality of things you get when you actually have time to develop them is far greater than what we are being fed.

For me, there is no comparison between even Queen’s Jubilee vs what Blizzard has been doing with WoW this most recent expansion. I think MoP is the most controversial expansion to date with many people hating it and the changes coming to late, but they’ve added new zones and gaming systems/features/activities at a 3-6 month rate..and its quality. Zerging your tail off in the gauntlet is…quality?

I wish people would sit down and really compare line for line that of a 3-6 month content patch vs a 2week LS patch.

One thing to add: For the 4th time now, the guild that I was in has disbanded and quit the game.

First one was early on, within a few weeks. Hardly knew these guys but they stopped playing outright. Not sure why.

2nd was right around the time guild missions came about. Our small guild saw what was needed for guild missions and gave up. They left.

Third was a guild that I had many friends in and I actually felt comfortable in for a change. They stopped playing when Living Story patches started back with Flame/Frost.

Fourth was a new guild that was WvW centric. Guild leader gave up on trying to recruit people for WvW because everyone was sucked out of WvW and into LS.

Yeah, positive impacts..but I guess Im one small cornflake in a bowl of cornflakes. Stop peeing in the cornflakes please.

Ok…so Ive watched up until he demos the new dungeon, and woah-buddy..here we go.

Not quoted verbadim, but you get the idea***

-“Living story is intricate”. — How? Its barely been told. I know next to nothing about the backgrounds of the characters. We get a one-two sentence explanation at the top of our screen. The little mail that we get explains more about the story than anything else. I still have no clue who scarlet is, why she is the way she is, why she wanted to disrupt the jubilee, why shes hanging out in twilight arbor, where she came from…???

-“New Experiences” — I laughed, because with each LS theres new achievements. True, new experiences, but should have also said new achievements because its really a checklist.

-“After the game released, we dedicated all resources that went into building the game into living story” — No kidding. Thats why dungeons hardly received any love all year. An AC revamp, twilight assault, and changes to dungeon rewards. Thats it. We can really tell where you dumped your resources and began neglecting other parts of the game.

-“We only wanted to open one zone” — especially when 9/10 people will agree that they would like more new zones. Are you guys REALLY listening? Or is that another company line.

-“We wanted to focus on current world to have it evolve” — It looks the same. Period. Opened up a few nooks and crannies, ocassioanl invasion. Pretty much the same Tyria.

-“Most other MMOs have major releases every 6 months. We have had 18 major releases” — Depends on your definition of major release. Updating a world boss mechanics and adding time-gated crafting/gear grind does not compare to a new zone, new story, new dungeon, new raid, new dallies, new content system(i.e. solo instances). Adding a weak LS where you have to go click on signs and fine mementos in the snow doesn’t compare to what I described above. Sorry, you don’t win the “we put out more and better content than anyone” award. You might put out more content, but its fluffy.

-“During these invasions creatures run around causing havoc” — They didnt run. They stood still. Statikittenil 50 players came along and stole their lunch money.

Edit: New company line: “We are always looking at that”…but it never happens

Just an observation before we I continue responding in the thread:

Vayne, you must wake up in the morning, eat your wheaties, drink some gatorade and then whip up some of that ‘vayne-forumposting’ milkshake for the road, man. Hahaha, you are relentless! Its admirable.

The changes I make in the open world are hardly persistant. Yay, I collected destroyer eggs for some Charr in some zone. Great…now what? I notice nothing is different around me.

The Casual Player Debate

I’m in the same boat as a lot of people here. When I’m at work I cant stop getting on the forums, researching builds tactics and the like.

When I get on I play everything sPvP, WvW, PVE and try to get whatever LS event done that I can. I beat Liadri and other “hardcore” content and I have 3 ascended weapons crafted now, and I’m working on #4…

But I can only play about 2 hours a night weekdays. And some weekends I cant play at all.

I think that makes me a casual at this point. Though I’m thinking more and more that it’s just the WoW generation of gamers is growing up. We aren’t 20 anymore and have families now. But that is off topic.

The worst for me is the timegated/limited focus content. I feel that I cant get on anymore and do what I want to do. Because if I dont get X, Y and Z done today, I loose progress and can never gain that back. I’m one day behind. It also means logging in every single night for 1 hour at least. Instead of being able to skip night weekly and play my face off on the weekend.

As for limited focus, It’s just a bummer that I cant get gear in all facets of the game anymore. I’m so tired of dungeon runs I could spit. And chasing Event timers… ugh…

Yeah…that hit the nail on the head. As a casual player, meaning you only have 2 or so hours to play…but not casual in mindset/skill, you need to log in, get your time-gated things done. Get your dailys done. THEN go enjoy what you want, if theres any time left before you need to hit the sack for your other job…the one that pays. This also relates to living story. Need to make sure you check off all the little boxes before its done so you can get maximum AP, and the shiny at the end.

And yes, it is the hardcore WoW generation growing up. 7 years ago, I raided like no other. Now, I cant. I really want to get into Wild Star, which looks like it may be the ‘go to’ game for hardcores, but not sure I can deal with the hardcore raiding. Maybe I’ll start a casual/semi hardcore small raiding guild in that game, who knows.

Anyways..yeah, wow generation growing up. Who would have thought?

Ascended Armor

Why was ascended really introduced into the game? Arenanet says to bridge the time gap between exotic and legendary. Thats assuming someone is going after a legendary, but lets assume they are.

If the person is going after a legendary and is one of those people that arenanet is trying to make happy by bridging the time gap between exotic and legendary, then all that was really needed was the ability to ‘enchant’ existing exotics with an infusion slot where you can then throw in an AR infusion.

Since Fractals are the only place that receive the full benefit of ascended gear, the simplest solution is/was to simply allow these ‘progression minded’ players to work toward ‘enchanting’ their existing exotic gear with infusion slots for AR. Im willing to bet a lot of the progression minded players will be found mostly in Fractals, to which this certainly suits. For players like me, who wanted BiS gear early and to enjoy the game, I could simply ignore infusion and AR. To the WvW player…frag on!

The simple solution laid about above appeases the progression minded folks, it appeases the casual that doesn’t want to grind for another tier of gear, it appeases the WvW player who does not want to leave WvW to obtain his/her BiS gear. It does not create imbalance, it does not create hundreds of threads about ascended gear. It does not create frustration amongst players. It does not create the sense of being lied to. It does not…wait for it…give birth to the ‘manifesto’ debate.

Simple solution. They were either too shortsighted to see it, thought they knew better than the average bear, or ignored it. Either way, this is not a developer I want to give my money to any longer.

They could have avoided ALL of this. And I think the coding would have probably been easier too.

I ask, why wasnt this considered arenanet?

The Casual Player Debate

-I am casual in that I have 1-3 hours per night to play, depending on RL stuff. Some nights its 30 minutes, most nights its 1.5 hrs..

-I am ‘hardcore’ in that I research what I do, builds..classes…optimizations..strats…While I want to have fun, I take my ‘performance’ seriously and what to do very well. I hate sucking and if I know I will be a detriment to a group, I sometimes do not join in on a dungeon run until I know what I am doing. I don’t want to be ‘that’ person.

-I am semi-hardcore in that in a dungeon group, I can tolerate people messing up a bit. I can tolerate having to explain a fight. I dont mind it. What I can’t tolerate is someone who is constantly lagging behind. If the group decides to speed run and one person sits there twiddling thumbs for 5 seconds after the trash is dead, while we spedrun past the next pack of mobs..I hate that.

So, not really sure what kind of player I am. I have both casual, hardcore, and semi-hardcore traits when playing an MMO. I guess if I weren’t married, no kids…Id probably be more hardcore. But then again, Id probably still be playing WoW or some other game with difficult content.

Guild Wars 2 takes everything you love about Guild Wars 1

This is the only bit I have a problem with. Because nothing from GW1 exists in GW2.

If anything, the things they did take from Gw1, which were perfectly done, have been done terribly in gw2, like the targeting system (it is garbage in gw2)

RIP GW1, you will be sorely missed.

RIP GW2 August 2012 through November 2012. You will be sorely missed.

They will be forced to do it because more n more people lose interest in their game that goes nowhere.

Ive lost interest because of the general direction. Quick and poor LS updates. They should have a tequatl update every patch…thats the type of content we need. Add in some more zones, get those skills into the game, etc.

But for me, it might be too late. I just don’t feel like grinding out ascended gear. I had my BiS stuff. I spent many runs in whatever dungeon to get it. I spent a lot of mats building my Lyss and Ilya. Id have to grind out new gear, transmute them, etc. Just not sure i have the energy to fight this uphill battle with arenanet and guild wars anymore. This was to be my grindless, gear treadmill less game. Guess not. Thinking of heading back to other gear treadmill games where I expect it.

I digress.

They need to pump in serious content. While SAB looks cool and is popular, they need to stop with the carnival crap. So sick of it.

[Merged] Your opinions of the LFG tool

Just checked out the LFG tool…for some reason when I popped my head into the game last night, I had access(I didnt previously). It looks promising. I take back what I said about it. But it is completely reliant on people advertising their groups. If people find that the tool sucks, then the tool will suck.

At least a queue system…nearly everyone uses that.

But still, this one looks promising.

I switched to my mesmer to spice things up. Give that one a try. Not many mesmer-like classes in ther MMOs so I find it rather unique.

As far as whats changed? Dont get me started. Read the patch notes, read the forums. Community is split 50/50 on if they like living story or not, and if ascended gear has any place in the community.

But I’ll leave that for you to decide.

Oh, we were promised more skills by the end of this year. Possibly purchased via skill points. Dont know how many per skill but if it follows arenanets recent trend, Id say around 50+ per skill..something rediculous. But who knows if we will actually get them.

And you wonder why Anet won’t give a straight answer about a lot of things. I don’t know about Anet, but I know I’m tired of seeing the kittening thing.
It’s one thing to lobby for a change in the gamestate or help shape and push it in a direction that you would like or feel that it would be better, its another to cling to this one kittening statement and whip it out like its the golden law every week.

You can bet if Anet learned anything from the Manifesto…its to not have one out there and to say as little as possible because this is what happens.

I can’t think of one game that Ive played in the last 10 years that had as bold of a mission statement as Arenanet’s manifesto. Developers don’t do that. They don’t sit in front of camera and make bold claims about what their game will be, wont be, etc. And then later on when things aren’t working out, they claim that we ‘mis understood’.

I remember Rift devs making some pretty bold claims. Maybe you weren’t listening?

I wasn’t listening. I didnt follow the game development. I started playing several months after Rift’s launch. I was on the forums a decent amount and really didnt see much in the way of “you lied to us!!”. Instead i saw a lot of "Wow, a lot of new content. New zones, new end game systems for single, due, and group content. New raids, etc. " I did see, however, a lot of performance related threads. Rift’s engine is pitiful with regard to performance, but thats another matter.

Please correct me, since I seem to be wrong in this matter. Would like to know what they promised or what they touted as a core aspect of their game, which turned out to be not. What did they hype up which turned out to be flat? (serious, would like to know )

The problem isn’t “casuals” it’s “hardcore with limited time”. Of course it all depends on your definition of casual. I’m extremely serious when I game, i min max, I study skills, I work out damage calculations over lunch, and I can play maybe an hour a day.

The problem is, are there enough of me to be worth worrying about?

me.
