All that we need is a Debuff...

in WvW

Posted by: dargosian.2704

dargosian.2704

Having read the above comments, I’d like to propose some changes to the original debuff to allow “epic large scale battles” but not “zerg from camp to camp following blue arrow off cliffs”:

Trampled (only comes up when 30 or more allies are within a range of 1000)
-Run speed reduced by 5%
-Upon health reaching 0%, downed state is bypassed and the player immediately dies.
-For every 3 more allies within 600 range, run speed is decreased by 2%, and toughness & vitality go down by 20 each.

This would mean that large guild ‘raids’ are still possible at a slight cost, and massive zergs are easier to slaughter. Does WuvWuv community approve? (Edit: Increased radius for initial effect to trigger from 600, considering zergs aren’t usually packed together but are a train)

also, @Gamadorn: Wouldn’t that be good strategical positioning, in a way? Imagine the coordination required if three separate mini-zergs could follow each other over terrain 600 units apart from each other. That wouldn’t even be zerging, that’d be sending troops in formation o.o And if it was zerging, the three groups would just head off in different directions as soon as they got started, heh.

@VOLKON, WvW would turn into Massively Multiplayer Online Pinball. >.<

My suggestion:

- Reduce speed by 15%
- Upon health reaching 0%, downed state is bypassed and the player immediately dies.

I know having him back would benefit the community and all …

But do you really want this poor soul to be shout casting this mess of a game when he could put his skills to work elsewhere with something that doesn’t twist your inner lobes trying to see what’s going on?

But that’s exactly my point. He’s the only one so far that actually has the sense to not look at every player all the time, and thus wreck the game’s spectating ability entirely, but look at the game in a very broad, efficient, and entertaining way. He shoutcasts smart, which is exactly what GW2 needs.

Not every burst needs to be told to us, nor every stealth, rez, heal, and so on: the game doesn’t revolve solely around ‘clutch moments’. What we, as an audience, should be getting from the shoutcaster in any game is an understanding of how the game is flowing; all the rest is by-the-way.

Gnashblade, et al. vs. Kiel

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: dargosian.2704

dargosian.2704

I would like to point out that Evon Gnashblade is also running a sadistic death-camp on Southsun Cove where he starves visitors (possibly kidnapped victims?) for an indeterminate amount of time, before stranding them on the island with extremely limited food and supplies and actively encouraging them to kill each other to obtain said supplies. Not only that, but he also releases giant Karka periodically just to watch them digest victims alive with acid. This is monstrous and inhumane treatment perpetuated on sentient races, unworthy of one who seeks to become a Councilor!

Clearly, Evon Gnashblade has become mad with power, thinking himself so wealthy and influential that he is above any law. Stand up for sanity! Vote Ellen Kiel!

Yeah, because stealing Zephyrite magic and pitting two teams of otherwise deprived adventurers against each other on top of inescapable cliffs is soooo much better.

dreadicon (OP), you’re absolutely right. The ‘trinity’ you suggest should be a staple of any new content/gameplay ANet wants to pull out of the Living World updates. As someone who enjoyed Aetherblade Retreat (as in I finished it when I ran it, and still did it a couple more times), people who couldn’t enjoy the dungeon should have the opportunity to at least get better at it, or finish it for the story at the very least.

As for Mithran, I’m not sure what you’re complaining about: the content or the exploiters? If the latter, OP wasn’t talking about that, he was saying tough content is welcome when it doesn’t interfere with the ‘pick two of three from the trinity of Difficulty, Duration, and Story’ principle of content. If people choose to exploit it, that’s not ANet’s fault.

Edit: This was in reply to dreadicon’s and Mithran’s original posts, they’ve (mainly Mithran) clarified what they mean since then. I still think that Mithran, you’re getting a little fussed over nothing dreadicon has really said. He thinks that hard content is good, as long as players aren’t forced into playing it, which they’re not with CT t3/4; unlike AR, where anyone who wanted to see the story (any sane person following the LS, basically) was forced to play it through.

But seriously. Something better happen in this ceremony that doesn’t only impact 1/100th of Tyria for 1/24th of the year; that is, something that is actually compelling and permanent. I love this game and the idea they are trying to progress, but it’s a Living Story, not #TyriaLikesCarnivals.

I trust ANet to create compelling content this time around, despite their previous failings (see: Southsun, Dragon Bash). Looking forward to the official release tomorrow.

Suggestion: Reduce Stance Recharge 60 secs

in Warrior

Posted by: dargosian.2704

dargosian.2704

As only a single example, my main is a Thief, and seeing Bull’s Charge after using Scorpion Wire for so long is absolutely disgusting. Significantly weaker effect + twice the recharge.
Granted, Thieves have significantly less ability to exploit that gap close + knockdown; most Thieves consider Scorpion Wire horrible still, whereas Bull’s Rush at least gets use from Greatsword warriors. But less range and doubled recharge? No way.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scorpion_Wire
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bull%27s_Charge

More damage too though, and that’s a 2 second knockdown you’re talking about. I don’t see how that’s not essential for a CC warr. Plus, if there’s a stealth field around they’ll never know what they got charged by; might as well be a bull ;D

I don’t play thief though, so with regards to the effectiveness of Scorpion’s Wire in combat, I’ve no idea; it may or may not be as good as Bull’s Charge.

I was dueling a thief the other day in an empty sPvP map and he was blinding me continually on his autoattack, I think. (As a CC warr, that hurts a lot.) I’ve checked the thief skills on the wiki, and it doesn’t seem like this is possible. Is there a trait that does this? Or is there a utility that allows applying blind on every attack?

Thanks in advance.

This shoutcaster seems to have left, or else is no longer shoutcasting; whichever the case, someone needs to bring him back. He’s incredible. Not only is he informative about the game as a whole, he also keeps up with the action in a specific location and throughout the map at the same time. Now, granted, the action isn’t live; but it’s much more entertaining than any other shoutcaster I’ve yet seen, and doesn’t start yelling about every other rez that happens. Come on, he managed to make a 500-300 win on Niflhel exciting.

On a side note, it seems TP were well acquainted with theGIJesus; has he updated you on why he stopped casting? Can you guys contact him in some way? (Some beta footage of Azshene, Xeph, and Teldo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2PLE918apQ)

Something else I suspected that caused me to not get the achievement even if I didn’t get hit by the laser walls was walking into the golems while they were super-charged by the lasers (i.e. their shield is up), although I can’t determine if that’s a completely valid cause for not getting the achievement (I couldn’t test it once I got the achievement >.<). dargosian.2704

Are Mantras viable at all (in sPvP)? I searched ‘Mantra build’ on the forums and nothing turned up… I’ve been playing Mes for a while now but personally the small number of hits after charging one up, and then the high chance of being interrupted trying to charge one up again – which make them near useless in fights – has turned me away from Mantras.

However, with the recent decrease of the cast time and an interesting abundance of traits regarding Mantras I hadn’t noticed before, I’ve been curious as to whether they can be used. Can they be played; or even better, has an unorthodox Mesmer somewhere come up with a build entirely based on them?

Cheers

Just a couple comments after watching the MotM tourney and finding out this thread actually exists:
When a player dies, and the camera is in his perspective, can we get the same effect as we do when we play (the saturated/black-and-white effect)? It just got confusing for me to tell whether someone was rezzed or still in downed state or completely defeated when the colour stayed the same – but that might be because I’m so used to it by now.

Also, all AoE needs blue or red circles on the ground depending on the team that cast it, and the health bar of the target should work like that too: all I saw were green health bars. There isn’t even a green team.

Besides that though, as a spectator, I thought the cameras were well done. Now, if the shoutcasters can get better at using them…

The Pacing of the Living Story

in Living World

Posted by: dargosian.2704

dargosian.2704

This is more for the benefit of the devs than for ours, but I wanted to discuss the pacing of the events since the October update. What do you suggest to be good pacing? How much is bad?

My favorite has been Halloween so far. It flowed for its entire duration, while also building tension for the fight with the Mad King; and then the denouement was very well done too. On top of that, we got by far the best jumping puzzle in the game, but that’s besides the point ;D

Meanwhile, that Karka event had to have some of the most ridiculous schedules ever. That should be pretty obvious to anyone who was participating. And our current Living Story is just being dragged out for far too long: those refugees could have built a second Hoelbrak by now…

My personal preference would have been Prelude and Gathering Storm come in one month, but separated by about two weeks; the other two sections would be set up in a similar way. This gives the notion that it is truly a big event, but it also keeps the player’s attention for the entire duration (think about it: we’d be killing off the Molten Alliance Big Bad Bosses right now as opposed to blocking ruptures, really only passing time while Maw resets).

So? Where do you guys think is the line that ANet should implement for their future Living Stories, regarding pacing? Should it be a hectic, all-or-none weekend like the Lost Shores? Or should the ‘Prelude’ last a month in and of itself?

I’m not sure how that would fit in lore-wise though, considering that the Consortium is a) hardly a worldwide guild like the Zaishen Order, and b) disliked by the majority of Tyrians after the Karka business. Although, I wouldn’t mind having them coming back for a bigger role in Tyria, perhaps to redeem themselves.

A Complaints sub-forum

in Suggestions

Posted by: dargosian.2704

dargosian.2704

I don’t know whether anyone else has noticed but this Suggestions sub-forum is churning out less awesome, viable, and wanted Suggestions and more Complaints on a single thing that ANet changed or fixed in their last patch.

Now, I’m not saying that these Complaints should be shunted off to a single sub-forum to be collectively neglected, because that completely removes the voice of the players who don’t agree with where ANet take the game with their patches and updates; sometimes, they are completely legitimate responses to anything ANet have gotten wrong (take, for example, the very recent outcry regarding the Combo Kills daily achievement).

From where I stand though, they don’t really fit in the Suggestions sub-forum: shouldn’t Suggestions contain long-term, “this seems like a cool fix for something that hasn’t been working out for the game for a while now!” ideas? I’ve seen few from the past few days.
I honestly don’t see where asking to revert back to a previous method of doing dailies is much of a Suggestion at all, but only a Complaint.

Complaints should still be taken seriously though. That’s one thing I’m worried about for this prospective sub-forum. Could it gain notoriety as a sub-forum for whiners? Will it have “Warning! Cave troll(s)” as it’s icon on the forums page? I certainly hope not. Like I’ve said, many of these Complaints are completely legitimate. This voice should still be respected – perhaps it would be, under a different name such as Update Feedback?

Or maybe I’ve gotten the point of the Suggestions sub-forum all wrong. :\
