Is Dry Top the only new area?

in Living World

Posted by: dargosian.2704

dargosian.2704

So the size of the new zone makes sense

What’s been added in this update isn’t a new zone. It’s a small area called Prospect Valley, which is part of the yet-to-be-fully-revealed zone Dry Top. It’s similar to the difference between the Thaumanova area and Metrica Province: it’s only a small chunk of the whole map.

Just clarifying for people who are confused. Nearly all zones (disregarding capital cities) in GW2 have been rectangles – fairly large ones, at that – and I’m expecting Dry Top to be the same in due time.

I always have my Gamma set to, roughly, 0.85 to make night-time visibly different from day-time. When I enter dark areas – caves, mainly – it’s normally too dark for me to see, so I unsheathe my Mesmer’s torch and use that as a light source to better notice cracks I can jump over and general terrain.

So yeah, I would also like to see unsheathing weapons as a perma-toggle feature, but I get the feeling that my reasons are a bit less relatable… :/

Race Change Option?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: dargosian.2704

dargosian.2704

A Human that has race changed into a Charr would still be treated as a Human you say? Yes, that’s exactly my point. He should be. Because that Charr was raised by the Humans and taken in by the Humans as a Human. He may look like a Charr, but they dont judge. Poor thing was found as a baby in the woods, whatever story you want to make up. That Charr later grew up and played with Human kids and he was treated as a Human in everyway except his “wierd” appearance. As an adult, all the Humans basicly see him as a Human, but he is a Charr. Then of course, he does the personal Human story, despite being a Charr. And you end up with a level 80 Charr that has done the Human personal story – your race changed character.

Hmm, yeah, seems legit. It’s not like humans and charr hate each other in the lore or anything, right?

That aside, I’m not against race changes if they find a way to make it work with the lore and the story, but your method isn’t exactly sensible. :P It’s a tougher issue to get around than you’d think, and I can appreciate why ANet aren’t going to touch it with even a jotun-sized greatsword.

Tequatl Rising - Step in the right direction

in Living World

Posted by: dargosian.2704

dargosian.2704

You dont know that people will never kill Tequatl because nobody exept for 60 People fought the new Version with a hard handicap. ( They all had Cleric Gear and other handicaps ) In fact they fought the real hard mode of the new Tequatl and for us, it will be easier because we wont have handicaps.
Just admit it. All you want is free loot, nothing more.

I don’t care about loot. You could give me a guaranteed ascended item at the end of every fractal and I still would not run the fractal. I chased those carrots on sticks for 8 years in WoW. I am done with the chase.

I know human nature and I know that people who scream for a challenge don’t really mean what they say. Humans, if given a choice, will always take the path of least resistance. If they fail at Tequatl, they will rapidly move on to something else. I hate being right about these things, I really do.

Be happy then, because you are wrong. Thinking that everyone acts the same is foolish. Why would anyone play Dark Souls if nobody really wants a challenge?

BOOM!

Your Easiest Solution

Post here 1-5 improvements to the game that you think would be the easiest for ANet to implement and would improve the game a lot. Here’s mine:

1. Flatten out the rank curve, just like the PvE levelling curve.

2. Glory/Rank can no longer be gained from hotjoin and Custom Arenas. Only Team and Solo Arenas.

3. Hotjoin is now only 5v5.

There is no punishment for failing the dynamic event that wants you to kill Tequatl?

I thought it was okay that Scarlet’s minions didn’t do anything to the zone they were ‘invading’… But we’re talking about a world boss. I’m really hoping the answer isn’t ‘yes’. I hate to be the guy who abuses the manifesto (shaking it around for some spare truth), but this line stuck out to me the first time I ever saw it, and it comes back to me now too:

“In the game world, these horrible centaurs are standing around in a field, and you get a quest step that says ‘Go kill ten centaurs.’”

We don’t think that’s okay.

Keep SAB in the SAB

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: dargosian.2704

dargosian.2704

Why’s everyone trashing the OP? He doesn’t like the SAB, other people (the majority, sure) do. Personally, I empathize with him, but I’m not on his ‘side’: if the game really was contained in a hardcore fantasy mythos then even I wouldn’t know what SAB was doing here. But since ANet has decided (and followed through VERY well with this decision) that Tyria is no longer a sword & sorcery era fantasy world, they might as well make a collusion of effects, eras, and styles that blend together in GW2’s unique style.

IMO it’s just a misunderstanding on the OP’s part. Tyria is no longer (one could argue it never has been in) contained within the fantasy genre, it’s pulling from much more than just magic and sword battles. If ANet wants to show that off using 8-bit, all the better for them (and even more so for us ).

It’d be really cool if they made the other achievements these kinds of Bonus Objectives. It encourages keeping up with the dungeon and doesn’t feel like checking off items from a “quest list”; it also means that better rewards could be given if these Bonuses are passed.

The achievements could instead be “Complete 3 Bonus Objectives on a single run” or “Complete all Bonus Objectives on a single run”.

It’s a shame the one they did put in there doesn’t work.

There’s only one important question I have…
While Scarlet was busy going to all three Asuran colleges, making shady deals with the Molten Alliance and the Aetherblade Pirates, and generally becoming a psychotic, stereotypical supervillain…

Where the hell did she get the time to make not one, but TWO Quips?

She stole the Precursors from the times I was doing the Mystic Toilet for attempted gain, naturally. What, you think it’s only Zommorros’ fault? The rest? Pirate. She stole that stuff through the Diminishing Returns. Yeah, that was actually Scarlet at work and you had no idea.

In that case she really is a personal nemesis.

I’m okay with farming. What I’m not okay is ignoring the game’s mechanics for the sake of obtaining gold. The ember farm? Seriously?

If anything that’s a fail on ArenaNet’s part. Make champions difficult to reach and to defeat, for crying out loud, and not just Veterans with more health and damage; don’t throw them willy nilly at zergs because the zergs will always win. Put them at the end of long dynamic event chains that have some sort of impact on the map. Make them failable. Make them rewarding through loot and, more importantly, through victory; not solely because you got 70 gold in a day.

Don’t want to derail the thread too badly though, and very well written by Jeffery: those who want to farm for better gear/whatever – and have the time – should be perfectly well allowed to do so.

How to make QG better for a 'next time'

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: dargosian.2704

dargosian.2704

Hi guys! I’ve been doing Queen’s Gauntlet for a while now, (currently I’m doing Strugar and Chomper -.- ) and I absolutely love the Gauntlet! It’s been designed very nicely by ANet except for a couple of details which I’m sure you’ve all noticed, and I’m here to provide changes to QG when it comes back to make it much more enjoyable for everyone:

- Lag spikes. It’s quite easy to deal with this, and that is by moving the Gauntlet to a separate location entirely, away from the zergs that farm below; if anywhere, I’d make the upper levels of the Pavilion (which are currently empty) a separate area, where we can now queue and fight in peace. I don’t want it to be an instance, because it removes the ability for people to view their friends’ progress, or for guilds to cheer on someone trying to do “Light Up The Darkness”. If we want, we jump into the pit below from the stands to reach the bottom to farm tickets =3

- Death. Probably the most annoying of all of QG is dying to a boss and finding no one outside to rez you. It’s a long run back up, plus waypoint cost. In this new area, when one dies inside the Gauntlet, they return outside the arena they queued for rezzed already, but with some armour damage.

- The camera. Oh goodness, the camera. The only way to fix the solution would be to take domes off the arenas and instead put a fence that doesn’t allow us to fall off. Although the domes give an impressive “imprisoned gladiator” vibe straight away, they prohibit effective gameplay and that is where ANet kinda bombed on that aesthetic. (@ Anet, any chance of a compromise?)

- Tickets. I’m not particularly happy with the ticket system, mainly because it frustrates anyone actually trying to get far in the Gauntlet: they now have to detach themselves from their goal (kill Liadri/whoever) to farm these Tickets. At least make each win in the Gauntlet give us 5-10 Tickets, and get them to drop once for every 5 veterans in the Pavilion below, or something along those lines. Keep it accessible, not annoying.

That’s all my thoughts, what do you guys think should be improved about the Gauntlet? Personally I think the difficulty is excellent; I might eat my words when I reach Liadri, but honestly she is the only boss that I am very excited to fight against in GW2 since launch ;D

Keep it positive, keep it cool

Short Story: Delegation

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: dargosian.2704

dargosian.2704

IMO, this short story should have been an instance in the game. We meet up with Rox under the Death Star, and then journey up with her. We listen to the conversation. We then, in a separate instance in Cragstead, invite Braham to the celebrations on behalf of Rox. Easy-peasy, and it doesn’t feel as random for them to be in the Pavilion when we first enter.

Now that I’m talking about it, might as well say that the instances should be available only to those who got the F&F achievements, and that there are no achievements for doing the instances. Just for the sake of the story being in the game, y’know, and making it feel like you actually are part of Rox’s and Braham’s lives.

Bonus Rewards for Dungeons
Each day when you finish a unique path for any explorable or story dungeon, you’ll receive a bonus reward for completion—1 to 3 gold for explorable dungeons depending on their length and difficulty, 50 silver for story dungeons. Guaranteed coin rewards that previously dropped from bosses in dungeons have been removed in lieu of these new rewards for dungeon completion; all other drops off of bosses have not been changed. Now you have even more incentive for braving the hazards of the dungeons of Tyria!

Champion Loot Updates
All of the champions in the game will now award a new bonus loot bag upon their death if you qualify for loot rewards on that boss when it is killed. These bags have a chance to contain rare crafting materials, items that award skill points, and more!

World Bosses- Y they bad [Videos]

in Dynamic Events

Shadow Behemoth- Defend the monastery and the will send casters to the area above the shack in the middle. These will deflect shadow behemoths AoE drops that he reigns down from above (buff these to do considerable amount of damage to the front line fights as they hit). You need to defend the casters from waves of shadow enemies. Then to the west you have the seraph set up catapults to reign fire upon shadow behemoth. Defending these from centaurs. Then to the north at the garrison you can defend that against waves of shadow creatures and it will send Seraph Reinforcements to each area to help players fight (they would actually be useful).

I’ll be an ANet fanboy forever if they added this kind of complexity to the boss fights. I wonder if devs are considering these kinds of things when they say they want to revamp the world bosses? I really hope so!

Game ended up being more grindy...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: dargosian.2704

People are so naieve to think that this game provides you the only unique avenue in the MMO industry to give you the true freedom of choice. “you dont need to run dungeons if you dont like to..dont grind if you dont want to…” Yet, I am free not to do either of those things in any run-of-the-mill MMO either.

Not entirely, because other MMOs hold you to a subscription fee. Are you going to spend $15 a month to get the best of the best and do the latest greatest content, or stuff you should have done a long time ago? The “no-choice” found in other MMOs is a symptom of vertical progression (you actually need the best gear to do new content) combined with the subscription fee that holds you to the game – thus forcing you to commit to the vertical progression. ANet combats both by removing them entirely. Hence, we can do whatever we want in the game – and even out of it.

I would still say 30 is too low. My WvW guild still ran with 42 on reset during our highest play time, granted we weren’t all in 1 spot (scouts, upgrade watchers etc).

Run speed – Wouldn’t effect anyone, since zergs have perma-swiftness anyway.
No Downed state – LOVE IT
Extra allies – eh, I’m torn because of situation where “randoms” join your group because they are lost and randomly found you while running back to a fight.

This is my only problem – griefers who yell at other people to go away because you cause them to run too slow. That’s the only reason ANet doesn’t put this in, they wanted everyone to hold hands.

Yeah, that griefers thing is a bit worrying, but the way I see it, a real zerg wouldn’t be worrying about running faster or dying quicker, as they’d just be in the “safety in numbers!” mindset. If anything, it should teach them to make a 5-10 man roamer party or find a guild, rather than holler at people to stay away from their train.

As for the organized guilds, I can’t see how a group of people who know what they’re doing would be offset by running slightly slower or having a little less hp, and you said it yourself: more often than not guild groups will be separated among their own tasks, running supply and so forth. An extra person (or three) to help out is only a benefit.
