Leeching would kind of be a thing. Ideally when you take down an epic boss you have one or two players with lots of soul power carrying the group. They would be kind of like commanders but with super powers. If the event succeeds, everyone would get a good chunk of rewards but the “commanders” would be the ones who get something exclusive.

It should be hard to reach the epic boss area for most players.. Just facerolling would quickly get you killed and people can choose to not help you up. There would probably be a bit hostility but one point of soul power is to give bigger impact to more experienced players.

Oh, yeah, it would definitely make sense for the area to be a little like a ladder – as in fractals, just not with artificial gating (agony) or a rigid leveling system like we have now (grind level 1, then 2…); I really like the idea of gathering power. It would be nice if the people with the highest soul power could cast group-wide buffs to encourage helping, even if there’s always the risk of increased aggro due to the number of players.
There’s also the problem of trolling – a player with a very high soul power roaming in an area with newbies, thus aggroing the wrath of hell on them. Well, after all, it’s very hard to circumvent people’s meanness in any game…

I really like players with the most soul power ideally being the best and not just the ones sporting a blue dorito, but indeed it might open to lots of antagonism.
Which isn’t necessarily a horrible thing.
It also reminds me of a more rigid party ownership system, where the “leader” ideally carries the group and has more control over the situation. If the event fails, the blame will mostly fall on the leaders: puts pressure oh them but also encourages them not to troll.
Also, more rewards for everyone.
Random reapers swooping down the zerg while fighting a boss is a moment of turbo hilarity ensued.
Or maybe rage.

The biggest problem is: anet would never do challenging content that excludes the majority of their playerbase… even though it could be partially mitigated by the scaling difficulty. You fail, you’re done; if you’re good, you can resist longer. It’s good. Would cause massive whining, but… /shrug

Eh, ok, but world event means that everyone could stumble upon it…. which means impossible to control who’s playing… which means extremely low quality of players… which means a huge problem of organisation and impossible to make something that has strong replayability for those who like challenge.
And that’s going to frustrate bad players. Not that I’d mind them leaving, I just can’t stand the wails of sorrow and the cries “we’re the targeted audience, we demand everything to be done for us since we buy gems” instead of actually trying to BEAT the kitten content.
It’s also going to frustrate the poor kittens trying to organise the fight, getting carpal tunnel from explaining it in map chat over and over, and then having a nervous breakdown when the event fails for the 100th time despite them giving it everything they got.
I can only see losers.
Unless we’re talking about a map with a very low cap?
Unless you manage to teach the mass of outright bad and oblivious players… /snort

I had a lot of fun in the Caithe instances in hardmode. Honest fun.
Not a lot of replayability, but really. Nice.
I like it when I have time to think and come up with something sneaky.

I think there’s a lot to praise in SOME of what they’ve done, but I won’t praise until they put all these good things into fruition.
Dungeon with mordrem mobs, because they’re interesting.
Instanced map with strong bosses.
Solo arenas.

None of this will happen, so I won’t praise. It’s just laid there to waste, now.
Like handing out cantharelles to swines…

There can’t be a perfect encounter and devs always must strive to improve them. System and connection requirements are there for a reason – a decent platform is necessary, but devs can and should try to improve performance.
This doesn’t mean everything can be justified by putting the blame on them. Sometimes you have to accept it’s on you (or your gaming tools which many need an upgrade…) and stop making up excuses.
Sometimes you have to up your game. Sometimes you have to walk in the arena and play to succeed.
And that is why I hate a certain mentality prevalent with part of the community.
There has to be a limit to the hunger for the easy and the mindless. There has to be.

I can’t figure how they could make truly challenging content without using instances or another form of player isolation.

I can’t figure out one single good way to make challenging open world work. Not one. The marionette was so heavily hated on by all the kittenlords whining because unable to 5man a single champion; single-player simil-instances à la Liadri caused an uproar of PHIWs because they couldn’t get the mini by defeating one single boss with a low hp pool; Tequatl is a zergfest and wurm a huge fail; an instanced UW map would still be an instance, which is clearly an omg-no-no by anet.

Conclusion? Get swallowed by the amorphous mass of randoms which will never learn anything or act as a well-oiled machine, executing those beautiful dance steps I like so much, making it look effortless.
I can’t imagine a worse destiny for min-maxers, elitists, dungeoneers, team players, impatient jerks or however you wanna call yourselves.

You see the new fire drake boss battle videos on YouTube? How mobile and action packed those battles were? That’s how I’m pretty sure most of the levels were designed to be like. The wing buffet knockback skill is essentially the same as what I suggested before with world bosses getting some stack breaker abilities. Then notice how the players had to strike from multiple sides to finally subdue the beast? Even watching that video was more fun than actually fighting many of the current world bosses. I know you guys even the ones trolling me now will get the expansion, play those new fights and think to yourselves, “wow, this actually is a lot better than running then stacking and waiting for an idiot monster to stand in my AoE until it does…”

Didn’t need YT I had a chance to do it. And, within 2 attempts I was meleeing it, running my standard DPS rotation with one slot changed out for heavy CC for breakbar.

So, really, it was nothing special . Wing Buffet you circled (or more over rand through) when the animation started, very long tell. Or if you wre quick to notice/had the boon available, you’d just stability through it.

So challenging! I was on an account with screwed up keybindings, on rev – a class that I’d been playing for the grand total of 5 mins – and it took me 20 seconds to figure out the mechanics. I think I downed twice on my first time because I couldn’t find the right key to dodge.
So action-packed! I actually had to hit my stability/stunbreak button! I even had to move behind the wyvern for the wing thingy or whatever… and let’s not forget the powerful “spam a cc when you see the bar filling up” mechanic!
It’s not like Tootsie’s in game, huh.
I’d like to see him scrambling in a real meta party, packed with risky tactics that work only if the entire team is on the case.

No I have to say I am an illiterate with music haha. I hear something that appeals to me and then I closet myself away and pick it apart and don’t want to risk trying new things for long stretches of time. T_T

I know that feel… I also get bored very quickly. That’s why I know just a few names, and again only a few songs from that limited number of bands. I’m trying, though. In my other life I was a very curious person, ‘m trying to get it back through music… tried with books, didn’t work. Music is more accessible, makes it feel less risky to “venture”.
Tis strange, the only type of music I can’t stomach is the contemporary, pop-mainstream one. Is it just me being closed-minded and old or… /shrug
I just can’t listen to it, y’know? Even rap I can stomach, just not pop.

Apocalyptica is a group that plays cellos and they have a drummer now I believe. They did a cover of Metallica which is how I was introduced to them. It’s sweet, they have their own stuff where they have singers from other bands come join them for a song or two. Really good stuff IMO.

Apocalyptica is AWSUM! But I started disliking them more and more after one of the cello players left… I don’t like the drums. I like their old stuff, like Cult, and some of the songs they did with the guy from the Farmer Boys and from H.I.M. Sick voice, that one.
Their rendition of Nothing else matters is heartbreaking.

I just listen to metal that isn’t too screamo (for me, idk what the threshold on that is lol) + chillstep mixes + instrumental/piano covers. Some classical piano since I got into all that shigatsu wa kimi no uso (good little tear jerker anime if anyone interested).

Yeahhh, I know, black/death metal (+ all the subgenres and subsubgenres and whatever) come off a little too raw sometimes. For me, the voice is extremely important and that’s why I need breaks in which I go full ‘60s soul mode. Just voice and a few, chill notes in the background. Like, the instrumental part of Children of Bodom is nice, the guitar and keyboard are sick, but his voice? God, I don’t know, I just don’t like it when he screeches. Same for Finntroll and 100 others.
Buuuuut a more growly – albeit highly pitched voice – like Alissa’s feels more right to me. Shoot me if I know why, but males with light voices/females, singing like that, sound more “demonic” than some guy like the one from Amon Amarth, imo. That dude is burping in the mic, really… but he’s a big kitten. He and his beard. I’d pay to have a beard like that. Glorious.

Uhm, the current phase is my fav. Skid Row album with a few hints of Sex Pistols, since I’m studying and exploring punk. I was missing that in my music list. They keep calling me punk here, punk there, may aswell start educating myself!
The phase before that had Blue Oyster Cult in it, and the one before that was… uh… a bunch of metal bands all together. A bite here, a sip there… not that anyone would ever want to bite Ozzy … ewwww!
I caught myself listening to Bach the other day (not the singer, the composer)… too dramatic to grind SW.
I also have to avoid most symphonic/melodic/Arch Enemy because I get lost staring at the pretty singers and die ingame.
Opera is my main choice when I want music music, when I’m in music mood, but it’s not fit to be played on, imho.
