Anet got all the right info from feedback… All the stuff implemented could have worked..barricades, dolyak protection, auto upgrades… The only thing that went wrong was the execution.

Auto upgrades should have required supply delivery. Towers should control zerg traffic but the map is too big for that to happen, dolyak protection should matter but supply lines aren’t even necessary.

It was all the execution not the info.

Playerbase = the whole enchilada… That means every individual account active right now as we speak.

There are a million (whatever) active accounts… Are they in wvw?

There are more than enough players to fill every version of every bl and eb map, but where are they?

You really think that many people are playing? Guess it probably is alot. Why then do they need the transfer fee for WvW if its noone is playing WvW? Do they think it’s some anti-bandwagon measurement? That’s what full status is for.

Without having to merge servers & sacrifice server identity.

Given the following choices…Would you prefer to:

A) Fight against 2 Worlds that the System Picks for you at the beginning of every week.

Or

B) Fight against 1-3 Worlds that you choose at the beginning of every week from a choice of 24 NA and 27 EU Home Globes. ANet could adjust this number to keep players from gaming the system.

Would you be ok with either choice, or none of them?

If you choose Option B. That is possible, but the Base Map Mechanic has to change.

Option B.. Alot of players have asked for more variety and manual intervention in matchups. The only problem is the servers are so imbalanced there aren’t many matchups that would be any good.

Some servers are stacked in OCX, some EU, most you won’t see anyone until NA rolls around. Wanting Anet to get involved and curate these servers is not going to happen.

What could be possible is dynamic matches. Matchmaking similar to PvP, taking into account level, WvW rank, guild affiliation… or just keep it simple and go by numbers alone with an option to queue for a preferred side.

Or just get rid of the transfer fee and let the full status algorithm deal with any bandwagon issues. EotM dosent cost 1800 gems to play I don’t see why the servers should charge that.

Yeah pretty much everyone has server hopped at this point. If you like the allies you have then stick with it. They are just going to move on and let your server fall apart tho. Some might be satisfied playing in dead timezones because of some sence of loyalty and community. Me Im like all the people that left you alone, I just want to play the game.

Since we jumped to tier 4 this week, I’m guessing Mag will be defending heavily all week. I’m looking forward to finding out. But yeah, it WAS reset night, so we’ll see.

Oh that sounds promising. Wish I could join you but this paywall has me stuck in T2. I used to put in the time to raise gems but its not really worth the effort anymore.

A small group of us decided to hit Mag’s Air Keep last night. Their home BL got filled pretty quick after the swords popped, and we had some great fights. There are a lot of points on the BL’s, more than are available in EBG. Go to someone else’s BL and start flipping towers, camps, and shrines. They’ll come defend. Unless you’re in a lower population tier, ofc.

Last night was reset night so yeah we all saw some people fighting for a short stint. I tried to play some this morning… there was actually a tag and our squad was 8 people strong wooo. It was all PVD tho not as single enemy. After we flipped the entire map I logged out.

Yeah the PvP tends to be gimmick vs gimmick.. which is why WvW is the only part I enjoy since it is a mesh of PvP, PvE, and a tower defence game.

I don’t believe allowing people to transfer fast and free would take the "meaning" out of the game. Its not really that much of role play. Its like a team fortress 2 but with more involved mechanics. People want role play that its some sort of sims game but its not really.

Every time a keep WP is contested scouts need to go check it out. It is really disconcerting to spend all that time scouting just to find out it was some bug or other thing that did not need attention.

Can we fix this please. Either find out what mobs are the cause or make tapping a keep much harder to do.

Few things:

1) There are far too many servers for too few WvW’ers
2) WvW population is at an all time low because of the “New overhaul” it got on 23rd October, 2015.

Keeping this in mind, its only a lose-lose situation for Anet if they decide to make transfers free. Judging by people’s response, going megaserver in WvW will also cause many to leave and Anet will have one of its sources of $$$ cut forever. Also, bandwagoning…we saw what happened with HoD in season 2.

If they lose either way I hope they decide on free xfers or megaserver, at least I can still play some that way.

Its not like player attrition is just some theory, there have been dead timezones and dead weekdays for a long time now.

Nothing do about bandwagoning it seems, even if numbers are even players will screw it up with 2v1 or some other lamer tactics. I’ve fought with and against bandwagons, its not the end of the earth.

The only thing that makes me decide on TV in stead of GW2 is empty maps.

They will never do that otherwise they’ll lose revenues they get from the transfers. Transferring to a very high server is $22.5 per individual atm.

It could also be argued that they are losing revenue with all the people leaving due to broken servers.

I’d like to believe they are not counting on WvW transfers to keep them in the black.

They didn’t care about PvE transfers when they made that a megaserver. They probably don’t care about WvW xfers at this point.

Most of their money is probably made by outfits and mining picks, character slots ect. That’s how all the other MMOs work.

Yeah neither the EoTM tech or the PvE megaserver tech would be right for WvW.

IMO just treating the servers like a FPS game would do it. Join one, switch to another if you don’t like, queue for one if you wish… Easy peasy.

The new map is probably OK once you learn the fastest ways to travel. I used to go the wrong way on the old map when i first started, granted it was more forgiving. There is no incentive to learn tho since its empty all the time. We need dynamic servers to deal with the fickle, childlike playerbase.

Rewards mean a lot of things…. Are you anti-reward structure?

So if there were, for example, ways to earn ascended armor and weapons with badges of honor would you complain?

Maybe the devs are going to make ascended runes and sigils for earned rewards.

Maybe the devs will make a set of special legendary armor for wvw players…

It’s called incentivized gameplay… Most players want rewards. You want more peeps in wvw? Give out better rewards…

First off not sure why your trying to make this thread about loot, its about wanting dynamic servers.

Second if you want the mats to make ascended, WvW gives those just fine. Just open the heavy loot bags from player kills. Or the exotic loot bags from champ kills. Or salvage the gear dropped by everything else. Myself I just put it all on the vendor now that I’m equipped, not like it took long.

WvW only legendary gear?? You used to have to WvW a little to get legendary, they removed that because of player complaints. I don’t like that there is fractal only loot but whatever. Its not going to be a good thing changing rewards. You see how well mist skins and tornament tickets went over with loot hounds.

nah It does it by having access to the most players. If I want to play WvW and fight other zergs, I go to EoTM since my EB map is dead population wise.

EoTM design is way better than WvW. The only problem is the way maps are designed.
The EoTM map punish defenses since the walls dont really defend well since there are many ways around walls, and the structures arent well defended by design.

The design is “better” only because it pulls from all the servers. But it is not a “good” design because it is a legacy of the servers. In stead of using dynamic balancing it inherits the imbalance of the servers.

The map design is poor for sure, which is the main reason why WvW should have gotten the alliance treatment instead of adding this EotM map as a waiting room.

To @Swagger WvW is not a grinding map, it is end game. The whole menafesto of Anet was that GW2 would NOT be your typical loot grind MMO. People can not be trusted with something as simple as mist skins and tournament tickets when it comes to victors getting more rewards than the vanquished.

Really don’t think the loot is the reason. Maybe it’s the hero points or whatever is involved with the expansion.. I didn’t buy HoT so I wouldn’t know that part.

@Dayra summed it up better than I could.

Even if EotM does attract more people it does it by giving the easiest, most mindless form of farming the game has to offer. That’s not why we play WvW.

As to the rewards, its just fine if your not getting one-pushed. If your not good enough to make loot there’s always a ton of other ways to get that stuff.

High participation numbers and better reward pace.

That’s what’s missing from wvw right now… We need to think about those fundamental things more.

The people that particate in EotM are not the ones you want in WvW. They want the most mindless PvE experience you can find. Probably all foreign prisoners being forced to gold farm/sell/scam.

This “Alliance” idea is stupid for true, competitive RvR, and if it’s such a great idea why is EotM so despised by real WvW guilds?

EotM is a waiting room. It has little to do with WvW, it has no balancing, poor design, and is not meant to be a full time RvR.

Real WvW is still better but much too spread out atm. And putting so much reliance on guilds to drive WvW was a big mistake. Guilds run around being selfish.. they don’t defend or scout, your lucky if they even respond to callouts.

The old alpine map you were always close to the action as long as you had garri with a WP…… People loved making garri their home, what a great design that was.

All in all, megaserver tech is a success so it serves as a great player pooling tool. It’s always fun with more players, and after all, we are taking about a player vs player environment here…

Yep, EoTM has been a great success so far…

EoTM is a waiting room… You can’t even pick your color, its not meant to be true WvW just a place to mess around for a couple mins.

Now if people were able to play together in real WvW that would be different story.

See you make a decent suggestion like this and people jump right to shut downs and server death. I like the idea, no reason they couldn’t keep servers AND allow movement.

The paywall is really what kills the fun for most of us. It worked when most of the servers were full, but now its just stifling.

If you take off the Rose Colored Glasses you realize population has been a problem for a long time now.

Once people are allowed to play together it might be a different story. But for now we’re stuck on fractured leagues of way too many servers. Maybe we shouldn’t have cried bandwagon so much. I’d kill to have some wagon v wagon about now.

Wish I could move around to find some action but the paywall slows me down too much.

These suggestions are over-complicated and the posts are much too long.

It should be something as simple as current megaserver WvW, with choose your color/team or whatever. With some simple matchmaking or choices provided to the player you can keep loyalties. You can keep friends joining the same favorites. You could even keep the servers in place with some dynamic coding.

Merging isn’t going to work for alot of people. There should an alternative.. like EoTM except balanced.

Yes for those that don’t know the EoTM does not use any sort of balancing, its all just random colors and the same imbalance carried over from the servers.

Now I’m not saying balance EoTM. Give it a horrible death, make it walk off a cliff like you did to that hacker. Then make a true !megaserver with a decent map.

As for the servers who cares.. they died a long time ago.. leave them to rot and let the k-trainers PvDoor to their hearts content. But give us skill players something to do please.

I keep trying EoTM only to be reminded how bad that map is. New borderland looks so much better, but it does have a steep learning curve.

I’m currently on a T1 server and this has got to be the worst server I’ve ever been on. Be careful what you wish for.

WvW was broken before the xpac and is broken after. The “reason of the month” doesn’t need to be brought up at all.

Just merge, or make a new megaserver tier, whatever its clearly broke so fix it.

What proof do you have beyond your own anecdotes that makes your viewpoint somehow more valid? What makes you think you could possibly speak on behalf of even a significant group of people and what they want?

Do you see 3-4 maps queued on your server every single hour of the day? If not then my argument stands. If you do then ok chalk up 1 server as healthy, just 23 more to go.

Using coglin as an argument? Wow some dude plays a couple T1 primetimes on a notoriously overstacked server, sees a queue or two and all is better now huh?

I’ve read most of your post, displayname. You are just a negative person overall, but I’m sure you’ll grow out of it.

I never said we should quit for a month. I’m still playing WvW and so are many other people. Just because you don’t see as much people as you used to doesn’t mean that no one else is playing it. Transfer to medium-server Ehmry Bay (I know you wouldn’t) and see for yourself. DH and SF are putting up a great fight and swarms of them are still roaming around my scouts.

This isn’t just a simple new content like the Living Story. This is an expansion. During the first 2 months of Guild Wars 2 (not HoT) release, was WvW crowded as it was a month ago? I was there and I will tell you now, no it wasn’t. Most people were doing PvE, PvP, and few WvW. I walked around the entire map and didn’t found a single fight. The current WvW map is more crowded than it was during those first two months of Guild Wars 2 release.

Free transfer is the solution? I’m sure they would do that if you are willing to pay for their cost of maintaining their server. ANet is by far more generous than most company I’ve seen. They don’t make a dime out of GW1 besides when users purchases the game (Prophecy, Faction, Nightfall, Eye of the North), and yet they are still maintaining those servers, keeping them alive. Do you pay for those? No you don’t. Free transfer is not a solution, silly bear. =) You seem more like a cheapskate than anything. You probably own dozens of those free gw2 accounts.

Are you really using dead zones as a counter argument? My whole point is to stop dead times and get a true 24/7 WvW going. We should not be accepting huge dead times as just the price of doing business.

Transfer to Ehmry Bads is your answer? What about tier 1? What about all the other tiers and servers? Massive imbalance is not an answer.

Free transfer, lower transfer, whatever. Micro transactions and more profitable than macro transactions. Charging $25 to change a server when the real problem IS the server is just silly.

You seem to be passing off your subjective opinion as some kind of objective truth to be able determine when failing to point out any bias or inaccuracies beyond them not including what you have decided on your own is the most important problem.

Truth is there all massive dead times in all tiers even the top ones. If you can’t see this without a list of data and numbers then please leave me to it. All I talk about is finding a way to get the people who want to play WvW together. Yes I’m one of them. I’ve never leveled a char up in PvE and never well. My PvE escapades are limited to running to the karma vendors for exotic gear and even that is done begrudgingly.

All your arguments about dead WvW seem to center around PvE and “waiting it out”. There have always been huge dead zones and this will not go away by “waiting it out”.

No, it’s just an observation. I prefer to think of causes before even trying to spam whatever I think will solve everything. And it’s just from experience that WvW activity drops with any major pve release. This happens to be a really big one in addition to the actual WvW maps being frustrating to a lot of people. Getting people to move around doesn’t solve anything if the gameplay is fundamentally flawed.

Hard to tell if gameplay is fundamentally flawed without people being able to play together (move around). I have yet to experience anything but empty maps.

People fixating on things they can only imagine are a problem instead of trying to “spam” solutions to the REAL problem gets us nowhere.

Not at all. I just signed off but like I’ve said many times before, the population is rising slowly and it did. It is more lively today than ever (after Hot release). Most of my guildies are doing pve contents and once they’re done, they’ll be back on wvw

A lot of people are grinding elites, judging by….

  • The random few that do have elite specs on WvW
  • Me seeing WvW frequenters in the new zones
  • Me actaully BEING in the new zones doing the same thing.
  • People not being able to navigate the maps
  • Add in Halloween and people are very spread out
  • Leads to less people in WvW to actually play WvW to farm elites, leading to even more people going to PvE to do elites
  • All kinds of bugs, like not even being to log in for extended periods of times
  • WvW reset being on Saturday Night
  • The Guild Buffs for WvW is completely new and also, Guild halls.

With posts like these are we saying any time there is content added we should quit playing GW2 for at least a month?

Or are we just explaining the cause of the problem???

Srsly I think free transfer IS the solution. Free xfers while continuing to regulate populations as Anet is currently doing. Repeat anet is actively working to regulate populations.

Since it took me over 20 minutes to get into eb last night the problem is not population. If you want a megaserver version of WvW feel free to go to EotM.

You wait 20 mins in a queue while other top servers are empty and you say the problem is not population? Wow really.. the problem is population, and how it is kept divided too much. Good for you finding a timezone with a bandwagon, I guess…

Megaserver was a good fix for PvE sure. Never said to make WvW a megaserver.

People already shuffle around the servers, correctly looking for a good match to play. The only thing that prevents good matches is the paywall. Without it no one would give a kittys bottom about empty servers.

Now you may assume they need that paywall to keep the lights on or whatever. I propose they can make money in a better way and still keep bandwagons under control like they have been doing.

It’s not the map it’s the the number of servers that’s too large. Servers and matchups need to be more dynamic.

Should be able to join any server at any time as long as it isn’t full. If you want to keep gem sales as a part of it make it a mid-match penalty or something.

I certainly would NOT like to see, for example, megaserver systems for WvW to ‘fix’ the population imbalance and would much rather like to see changes to the scoring systems.

At this point I don’t really care if its megaserver, or matchmaking like PvP, or merges whatever… I’ve tried every timezone since HoT launched and ALL the maps are practically dead even EB.

Take a game like Team Fortress 2. There is a list of static servers. You pick which one you want to join for your gaming session. If it’s full at 32/32 players you can queue up for your favorite server or pick another.

So tired of logging in just to see if it’s dead or not. Scoring changes only matter if there’s actually people playing on your server.

I personally like the new stuff. If the trash server system were replaced with something halfway decent I could actually play too.. that would be cool.

They already showed they are willing to give to give free transfers. This whole theory of them needing transfers to keep the lights on just doesn’t seem true.

FYI people get a free transfer credit when they upgrade from a F2P account. Please build upon the transfer credit system.

Free transfers went wrong because it was done on a server level instead of an account level.

You can still give out transfer credits while allowing people to pay for them if they so choose.

The server I’m on has been dead since it launched so haven’t got to play much yet…. Looks cool tho. Hope to see some allies soon or maybe roll the dice on another transfer and cross my fingers.

Just popping in to the latest winner up\loser down thread. Really need to think about putting it in place anet.

Would add some excitement to the matchups. Kinda like a tournament but without all the cheating and spreadsheets.
